알츠하이머 질환(Alzheimer’s disease)은 대표적인 신경퇴행성 질환이며, 뇌 내 amyloid beta (Aβ) 축적에 의한 산화적 스트레스 및 염증반응은 대표적인 AD의 원인으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 kaempferol (K), kaempferol-3-O-glucoside (KG), quercetin (Q) 및 quercetin-3-β-D-glucoside (QG)와 같은 4가지 flavonoids 의 C6 신경교세포에서 Aβ로 인한 신경독성으로부터의 보호 효능을 살펴보고자 하였다. C6 신경교세포에 Aβ를 처리하였을 때세포 생존율이 감소한 반면, 4가지 flavonoids 중에서 Q와 QG의 처리 시 세포 생존율 증가를 통해 신경교세포 보호 효과를 확인하였다. 또한, Aβ를 처리한 control군의 경우 reactive oxygen species (ROS) 생성을 유도한 반면, flavonoids의 처리 시 ROS생성이 감소하였다. 특히 Aβ를 처리한 control군은 133.39%의 ROS 생성을 나타내었으며, 1 μM의 KG와 QG를 각각 처리시107.44, 113.10%의 수치를 나타내어 ROS 생성 감소를 확인하였다. Flavonoids의 Aβ에 대한 신경교세포 보호 기전을 확인하기 위해 염증 관련 단백질 발현을 측정하였다. Aβ로 신경독성이 유도된 control군은 염증 관련 단백질 발현이 증가하였다. 그러나, flavonoids를 처리한 군의 경우 염증 매개 인자인 inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2 and interleukin-1β의 발현 감소를 확인하였다. 특히, KG와 QG를 처리한 군은 aglycone 형태인 K와 Q를 처리한 군에 비해 효과적으로 염증매개 인자 발현을 감소시켰다. 본 연구는 flavonoids의 일종인K, Q와 그 배당체인 KG, QG의 Aβ로 신경독성이 유도된 신경교세포에서 산화적 스트레스 및 염증반응 조절을 통한 보호 효과를 나타냄을 알 수 있었으며, 이들 생리활성성분은 AD 예방 및 치료 소재로써의 가능성이 있을 것으로 사료된다.

To determine whether Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectral analysis based on multivariate analysis for whole-cell extracts can be used to discriminate different countries of Perilla seeds at the metabolic level, leaves of Perilla seeds were subjected to FT-IR spectroscopy. FT-IR spectral data of leaves were analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA), partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), and hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA). FT-IR spectra confirmed typical spectral differences between frequency regions of 1,700-1,500, 1,500-1,300, and 1,100-950 cm-1. These spectral regions reflect the quantitative and qualitative variations of amide I, II in amino acids and proteins (1,700-1,500 cm-1), phosphodiester groups in nucleic acids and phospholipids (1,500-1,300 cm-1), and carbohydrates (1,100-950 cm-1). PCA revealed separate clusters corresponding to their country relationship. Thus, PCA could be used to distinguish between countries of origin with different metabolite contents. And PLS-DA showed a similar country classification of Perilla seeds. 4. Identification and Characterization of Aspergillus oryzae Isolated from Soybean Products in Sunchang County

In this study, we attempted to isolate fungi from soybean fermented foods produced in Sunchang County and to identify Aspergillus oryzae from fungal isolates. Ten fungal isolates were identified with β-tubulin gene. According to the sequences of β-tubulin gene, ten fungal isolates were identified as A. oryzae/flavus complex. For further identification of the ten of fungal isolates, omtA gene, one gene of the aflatoxin biosynthesis gene cluster, was sequenced and the sequences were compared with those of A. oryzae and A. flavus strains from the GenBank database. In addition, identification of the ten fungal isolates was further confirmed using the PCR amplicon of norB and cypA intergenic region, in which a deletion was recognized relative to A. flavus and A. parasiticus. The amplicon size of the ten fungal isolate strains was smaller than those of A. flavus and A. parasiticus, but the same as that of the reference A. oryzae strain. These results indicated that the ten isolates should be identified as A. oryzae. The protease activity in rice koji made with 6, 13, 17, 27, 37 and 38 of strain, respectively was twice higher than that in control. The kojis made with nine of the A. oryzae isolates, respectively, did not produce aflatoxin, suggesting that the strains could possibly be used as starters for soybean products.

Purpose: This study evaluated the impact of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) on depression, perceived health, and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) in community-dwelling adults. Methods: Data from 9,778 adults who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) in 2014 and 2016 were analyzed. The estimated glomerular filtration rate was calculated using the CKD Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD EPI) equation. Depression was defined as a score of at least 10 points on Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). The HRQOL was measured using the EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D). The effects of CKD on depression were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression, and the effects on perceived health and HRQOL were analyzed using multivariate ordered logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of CKD was 3.7%. Among the adults with CKD, 13.1% had depression, 42.9% perceived their health to be bad, and their HRQOL was significantly lower than that of their non-CKD counterparts. The odds ratio for depression in patients with CKD was 1.66 (95% Confidence Interval [CI]=1.10~2.52, p=.017) and that of perceived bad or fair health was 1.80 (95% CI=1.35~2.40, p<.001). The likelihood of lower HRQOL in CKD patients was 1.44 times higher than in the non-CKD patients (95% CI=1.09~1.90, p=.010). Conclusion: The prevalence of psychological problems in CKD patients was higher than in non-CKD patients. The results suggest the importance of comprehensive intervention for patients with CKD. 6. Polyetherketoneketone의 연마 특성이 Candida albicans의 부착에 미치는 영향.

- Abstract
Purpose: To compare the polishing characteristics and their influence on Candida albicans adhesion to the recently introduced polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) and the conventional polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) denture resin material. Materials and methods: Specimens from PEKK (Group E) and PMMA (Group M) were made in dimensions of 8 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness. The specimens were further divided into sub-groups according to the extent of polishing (ER, MR: rough; EP, MP: polished, N = 12 each). The specimens were polished using polishing machine and SiC foil. ER and MR group specimens were polished with 600 grit SiC foil only. EP and MP groups were further polished with 800, 1,000, 1,200 grit SiC foils sequentially. To measure the surface roughness values (Sa) of specimens, atomic force microscope (AFM) was used and scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation under 1,000, and 20,000 magnifications was performed to investigate surface topography. The polished specimens were soaked in C. albicans suspension for 2 hours with shaking to promote adhesion. The attached C. albicans were detached from the surface with 10 times of pipetting. The suspension of detached C. albicans was performed by serial dilution to 103 times, and the diluted suspensions were inoculated on Sabouraud dextrose agar plates using spread plate method. After incubating the plate for 48 hours, colony forming unit (CFU)/plate of C. albicans was counted. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD test to confirm significant difference between the groups (α=.05). Results: Average Sa value was significantly higher in MR group compared to other groups (P<.05), meaning that additional polishing steps reduced surface roughness effectively only in the PMMA specimens. There was no significant difference in Sa values between MP and EP groups. In SEM images, PEKK specimens showed numerous spikes of abraded material protruding from the surface and this phenomenon was more significant in EP group. The mean CFU/plate value was the highest in EP group and this was significant when it was compared to MP group (P<.05) which was the lowest. Conclusion: Polishing PEKK using serial SiC abrasive foil may result in higher adhesion of C. albicans. In clinic, this should be considered carefully. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was conducted to prove the effectiveness of home-linked indirect smoking prevention education in early childhood in improving the awareness, skills, attitudes and willingness to protect themselves from smoking. 208 5-year-old children were recruited from three kindergartens located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Children in the experimental group received home-linked indirect smoking prevention education. Children in the comparative group, received indirect smoking prevention education in kindergarten. Children in the control group received general health education. The results revealed that all groups showed significant differences between pretest and posttest in awareness of second-smoke, attitudes and willingness to stop smoking. However, the skills to protect oneself from second-smoke showed a significant difference in the experimental group and the comparative group. The values of changes among the groups showed high increases in the order of experimental, comparative, and control groups. Provisional restoration plays an important role in the process of restoration with fixed partial denture by providing protection and restoring function and esthetics of abutment tooth. This is especially true in patients requiring use of provisional prosthesis for a long term. However, such situations may lead to higher possibility of provisional prosthesis fracture, and if expected so, reinforcement of provisional prosthesis should be considered. In this article, a patient requiring prosthetic treatment with increase of vertical dimension of occlusion was introduced. Due to increased vertical dimension of occlusion, the provisional restoration was expected to withstand relatively larger amount of load during a relatively long observation period. In order to minimize possible occurrence of fracture, reinforcement of the provisional restoration was sought by insertion of cast-metal framework and by using bis-acryl resin. Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the level of safety climate, fatigue, and safety performance and to identify the impact of safety climate and fatigue on the safety performance of operating room nurses. Methods: The study design was a descriptive survey. Participants were 174 operating room nurses from two general hospitals and two university hospitals in S and D cities. Three structurally designed questionnaires were used to evaluate their safety climate, fatigue, and safety performance. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Safety performance of operating room nurses had a mean of 3.26 on a 5-point scale. 'Current department career'(β=.17, p=.006) and 'safety climate (work-unit contribution) (β=.63, p<.001) accounted for 39% of the variance in operating room nurses' safety performance. Conclusion: Findings indicate that work-unit contribution towards safety climate is an important factor in increasing operating room nurses' safety performance. And the result is as in the following: publish year of subjects is 2010 to 2014, research plan was done by experimental-control group plan, and we quoted the most of the yardstick from foreign research, in the case of the seniors stays in their own house. Art therapy is the most common way of mediation, and most programs were done less than 10 times, once in a week, and less than 60 minutes in once. And variable of efficacy is verified in the order of physical ability, self-worth, and cognitive function. As the first research that analyzes the trend of sadness mediation program for senior citizens, this research is expected to help setting the direction of future research. that is related to convergence. 'Cheongmiin' is a green seed-coated soybean cultivar developed from a cross between 'Cheongjakong' and 'Daemang' in 2002. The F1 and F2 populations were grown for 2 years, and promising lines were selected based on the pedigree method from generations F3 to F5. Preliminary and advanced yield trials were conducted from 2009 to 2010, and regional yield trials (RYTs) were conducted in eight regions from 2011 to 2013. 'Cheongmiin' is a determinate soybean with white flowers, green cotyledons, and spherical green seeds. The average flowering and maturing dates of 'Cheongmiin' were August 1st and October 22nd, respectively. In terms of quantitative characteristics 'Cheongmiin' has a larger seed size (34.3 g/100-seed weight) than that of 'Cheongdu1ho' (24.5 g/100-seed weight), and has also been shown to be tolerant to lodging and pod shattering in the field in RYTs and oven drying tests, respectively. Furthermore, 'Cheongmiin' has been found to be resistant to bacterial pustules in the field and soybean mosaic viruses (G5H and G6H strains) in inoculation tests. The mean yield of 'Cheongmiin' in the RYTs was 272 kg/10 a, which was 4% higher than that of 'Cheongdu1ho'. Given its large seed size and seed coat color, 'Cheongmiin' is expected to be highly useful for cooking with rice and for the preparation of rice cakes (Registration No. 7688). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The soybean cultivar, ‘Saegeum’, has been developed for preparing soy-paste and tofu. The soybean cultivars ‘Daepung’ and ‘SS98207-3SSD-168’ were crossed in 2003 to obtain ‘Saegeum’. Single seed descent method was used to advance the generation from F3 to F5, and the plant lines with promising traits were selected from F6 to F7 by pedigree method. The preliminary yield (PYT) and advanced yield trials (AYT) were conducted from 2009 to 2010, and the regional yield trial (RYT) was conducted in 12 regions between 2011 and 2013. The morphological characteristics of ‘Saegeum’ were as follows: determinate plant type, white flower, tawny pubescence color, and brown pod color. Flowering and maturity dates were August 2, XXXX and October 17, XXXX, respectively. Plant height, first pod height, number of nodes, number of branches, and number of pods were 79 cm, 18 cm, 16, 2.3, and 44, respectively. The seed characteristics of ‘Saegeum’ were as follows: yellow spherical shape, yellow hilum, and the 100-seed weight was 25.4 g. ‘Saegeum’ was resistant to bacterial pustule and SMV in the field test, and its lodging resistance was mildly strong, whereas its shattering resistance was excellent. The ability of this cultivar to be processed into tofu, soybean malt, and other fermented products was comparable with that of ‘Daewonkong’. The yield of ‘Saegeum’ in the adaptable regions was 3.02 ton ha-1 . Soybean cultivar ‘Seonpung’ was developed for soy-paste and tofu. Suwon 224 and YS1325-3S-2 were crossed in 2003 and selected from F3 to F5 by pedigree method. The preliminary yield trial (PYT) and advanced yield trial (AYT) were conducted from 2009 to 2010, and regional yield trial (RYT) in twelve regions was conducted from 2011 to 2013. In RYT, ‘Seonpung’ was stable in variable environments and a high yield cultivar. ‘Seonpung’ is determinate, white flower, yellow spherical seed and yellow hilum. Flowering date and maturity date were Aug. 5 and Oct. 19, respectively. Plant height was similar to ‘Daewonkong (standard cultivar)’. However ‘Seonpung’ has higher node number (16) and seed weight (25.9g/100-seed weight) than ‘Daewonkong’ (14 and 24.2g/100-seed weight). ‘Seonpung’ is resistant to root rot, and it also has high level of resistance to bacterial pustule and soybean mosaic virus. The yield of tofu of ‘Seonpung’ was 241%, and noticeably lighter, and solidity was higher than ‘Daewonkong’. Soybean malt scent, fermented soybean yield and γ-polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) of ‘Seonpung’ were 4, 181% and 31.7㎎/g. The yield in adaptable regions was 340kg/10a (21% increase compared to ‘Daewonkong’). ‘Seonpung’ is expected to be cultivated and used widely for soy-paste and tofu. Soybean [Glycine max. (L.) Merr] is one of the most important legumes in the world. However, soybean varieties are sensitive to flooding stress and their seed yields are substantially reduced in response to the flooding stress. 192 soybean germplasm collection was screened to identify flooding tolerant germplasm at an early vegetative growth stage (V1). Soybean plants at V1 stage were waterlogged for 4 to 10 days. To evaluate flooding tolerance, survival rate were investigated as a time dependent manner. Jangbaegkong, Danbaegkong, Sowonkongkong, So cheong2 and Suwon269 showed flooding tolerance, while Shillog, T201, T181, NTS1116 and HP-963 showed flooding sensitivity. We also investigated effects of flooding stress on soybean morphology. The adventitious root development was greatly increased in flooding tolera nt plants compared to it in flooding sensitive plants. In addition, root length and root number were analyzed. The significant reduction of root length and root number was observed in flooding sensitive plants. Thus, these results indicate that the morphological changes in roots are important for acclimation to flooding stress. Taken together, the relationship between the morphological changes in the roots and flooding tolerance may be useful in selecting a flooding tolerant soybean germplasm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Starch is the most important carbohydrate in the human and animal diets and it also has numerous industrial applications. Starch is widely used as a key material for processed foods such as bread, pancakes, cereals, noodles, pasta, porridge and tortilla. Increasing the starch content in food crops is one of the important targets for crop breeding. We used a starch-iodine test to identify varieties with high starch content in 2354 soybean germplasm collection and found a total of 126 germplasm that showed a strongly positive reaction. We quantified starch content from highly stained 7 soybean accessions by standard method (glucose-oxidase). As results, starch contents of 7 soybean germplasm were 2.81∼4.55%, whereas the weakly stained controls showed low starch content with less than 1%. We also measured the contents of protein, fatty acid, water potential and free sugar in 7 soybean germplasm with high starch content. High starch germplasm showed lower protein content, while low starch germplasm showed higher protein content.
