As discussions on reducing CO
2 emissions continue, interest in ships with electric propulsion systems using fuel cells and batteries is increasing. This research aims to optimize the operation of ships equipped with hybrid electric propulsion systems that combine diesel generators, batteries, and fuel cells, and to develop efficient control strategies for CO2 emission reduction. This is a proposal for a CO2 emission reduction control method that reflects the power system characteristics and control characteristics of a hybrid electric propulsion system ship currently under design. The research subject is an unmanned surface vessel (USV) with a hybrid electric propulsion system. The research focused on unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) equipped with hybrid electric propulsion systems. Based on the analysis, an operation optimization algorithm for hybrid electric propulsion system ships was proposed and simulated. The simulation results confirmed that CO2 emissions from hybrid electric propulsion ships can be minimized by using 426.65 kg of fuel and 58.82 kg of hydrogen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
