Introducción: La erupción del volcán Cumbre Vieja en La Palma en 2021 permitió a la Radio Televisión Canaria (RTVC) explicar el desastre mediante técnicas de narrativa virtual, combinando Realidad Virtual y Realidad Aumentada en su programa ‘Una hora menos’. Los vídeos fueron subidos a YouTube, generando una respuesta del público. Este estudio analiza la reacción en YouTube a esta innovadora narrativa de desastres, evaluando visualizaciones, likes y comentarios. Metodología: Para recopilar datos, se consultó la lista de reproducción ‘Realidad virtual Volcán de La Palma | 1 hora menos’, extrayendo datos de sus cien vídeos. Los comentarios se categorizaron en técnica de narración, contenido de los mensajes y ‘Otros’, y se subdividieron en positivos, neutros y negativos. Resultados: El vídeo más popular fue "Formación de La Palma" con 11,103 likes, 616 comentarios y 922,682 visualizaciones. De los comentarios sobre la técnica narrativa, 24.3% fueron positivos, 51% neutros y 24.9% negativos; sobre el contenido, 26.1% positivos, 51.2% neutros y 22.7% negativos; y sobre otros temas, 14% positivos, 63.5% neutros y 22.5% negativos. Tacrolimus (FK506) is a macrolide lactone immunosuppressive drug that is commonly used in transplanted patients to avoid organ rejection. FK506 exhibits high inter- and intra-patient pharmacokinetic variability, making monitoring necessary for organ graft survival. This work describes the development of a novel bioassay for monitoring FK506. The bioassay is based on using polycaprolactone-based (PCL) magnetic Janus micromotors and a recombinant chimera receptor that incorporates the immunophilin tacrolimus binding protein 1A (FKBP1A) tagged with Emerald Green Fluorescent Protein (EmGFP). The approach relies on a fluorescence competitive bioassay between the drug and the micromotors decorated with a carboxylated FK506 toward the specific site of the fluorescent immunophilin. The proposed homogeneous assay could be performed in a single step without washing steps to separate the unbound receptor. The proposed approach fits the therapeutic requirements, showing a limit of detection of 0.8 ng/mL and a wide dynamic range of up to 90 ng/mL. Assay selectivity was evaluated by measuring the competitive inhibition curves with other immunosuppressive drugs usually co-administered with FK506. Vibration problems in slender structures pose a significant challenge in modern structural engineering, leading to problems such as structural fatigue, discomfort and safety risks. These undesired vibrations arise from various nondeterministic sources such as dynamic loads, turbulent winds, human activities, and machinery. Understanding and characterizing these actions is crucial for structural design and safety and represents a central research topic in structural engineering. In this context, data-driven methods have emerged as a valuable addition to traditional structural engineering techniques. They use extensive data collection, sensor networks and advanced analytics to provide real-time insights into structural behaviour and accurate forecasts of potential excitations, etc. This doctoral thesis aims to develop and apply data-driven techniques to address vibration challenges in slender structures. Its objectives involve identifying, predicting and characterizing non-deterministic actions affecting these structures by means of data-based non-parametric models as Machine Learning, as well as developing methods to actively mitigate them based on evolutionary computation. The doctoral thesis encompasses three works, where various issues related to different facets of structural vibration analysis have been successfully addressed following the subsequent methodologies. In first place, the focus is on the prediction and characterizing stochastic forces that dynamically influence structures, with particular emphasis on extreme events with potentially significant impacts. Specifically, the work involves the prediction of extreme wind speeds. An intrinsic challenge in predicting such extreme events lies in dealing with highly unbalanced datasets. Este trabajo fin de grado desarrolla una aplicación para financiar organizaciones benéficas mediante un sistema de comercio electrónico. La originalidad del trabajo radica en su orienta- ción hacia este tipo de entidades, que conlleva ciertas particularidades. En primer lugar, debemos considerar el origen de los productos vendidos. En la mayoría de los casos, procederán de donaciones o serán fabricados por la propia organización, pero generalmente serán objetos de poco valor. La gestión eficiente de eventos y asistencia en una banda de música es crucial para su organización y funcionamiento. Tradicionalmente, la Banda de Música de Segovia conocida como Unión Musical Segoviana, utilizaba métodos anticuados y manuales para gestionar todos estos aspectos, lo cual resultaba ineficiente y daba lugar a muchos errores. Este trabajo aborda esta problemática mediante el desarrollo de una aplicación móvil, que se decidió llamar BanDate. Esta aplicación está diseñada para facilitar la gestión de eventos, tanto ensayos como actuaciones, permitiendo un control centralizado y accesible para todos los miembros de la banda. Para su desarrollo se ha utilizado React Native, lo que permite que la app pueda estar disponible en los principales sistemas operativos móviles, tanto iOS como Android. Además, se ha empleado Firebase para manejar los datos en tiempo real, proporcionando una sincronización inmediata de la información y mejorando la eficiencia en la comunicación y coordinación dentro de la banda. Producción Científica, Cereal straw stands out as one of the most abundant and globally distributed agricultural residues. Traditional applications cope with a limited amount of production, leaving the remainder in the field for natural decomposition. Managing cereal straw through controlled biological transformation under anaerobic conditions holds the potential to generate added value in the form of bioenergy. However, the lignocellulosic composition of these substrates poses challenges for organic degradation, often requiring energy-intensive pretreatments. A detailed study with a comprehensive calculation of the overall energy balance of the integrated process is proposed, aiming to provide real added value and replicability. Three scenarios for wheat straw transformation were investigated, incorporating two preliminary pre-treatment stages—mechanical milling and physicochemical steam explosion. Three conditions of pretreatment were essayed, varying the time exposure of the steam explosion. The subsequent energy integration analysis revealed that the process was optimized by up to 15% in the final energy balance when the steam explosion was set to 10 min. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)-based active methodologies offer numerous possibilities, since they allow cooperative work and both distance and blended learning. This paper describes an applied project, which has been financially supported by the 'Consejeria de Educacion de la Junta de Castilla y Leon' (Education Authority of the Regional Government of Castilla y Leon). An educational interaction system called QUEST (Quest Environment for Self-managed Training) is proposed. The system is based on telematics and allows the development of cooperative and competitive workshops. It presents individual and group work environments in which several intellectual 'challenges', to be solved in a time-constrained way, are proposed to the students by students and/or teachers.

Producción Científica, The most used search engine for scientific literature, PubMed, provides tools to filter results by several fields. When searching for reports on clinical trials, sample size can be among the most important factors to consider. However, PubMed does not currently provide any means of filtering search results by sample size. Such a filtering tool would be useful in a variety of situations, including meta-analyses or state-of-the-art analyses to support experimental therapies. In this work, a tool was developed to filter articles identified by PubMed based on their reported sample sizes. A search engine was designed to send queries to PubMed, retrieve results, and compute estimates of reported sample sizes using a combination of syntactical and machine learning methods. The sample size search tool is publicly available for download at http://ihealth.uemc.es. Its accuracy was assessed against a manually annotated database of 750 random clinical trials returned by PubMed. Results Validation tests show that the sample size search tool is able to accurately (1) estimate sample size for 70% of abstracts and (2) classify 85% of abstracts into sample size quartiles. Simvastatin (SIM) is a potent lipid-lowering drug used to control hyper-cholesterolemia and prevent cardiovascular diseases. SIM presents low oral bioavailability (5%) because of its low aqueous solubility. In this work, polyelectrolyte complexes (PEC) are developed with different chitosan (CS) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) ratios that will allow for an increase in the SIM dissolution rate (2.54-fold) in simulated intestinal medium (pH 4.5). Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images revealed highly porous structures. The changes between both complexes, PEC-SIM:CS:CMC (1:1:2) and (1:2:1), were related to the relaxation of the polymer chains upon absorption of the dissolution medium. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRPD) studies were used to evaluate the polymer/polymer and drug/polymer interactions on the different PEC-SIM:CS:CMC ratios. In addition, the PEC-SIM:CS:CMC (1:2:1) complex exhibited a high ratio of protonated amino groups (NH3+) and an increase in intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which were correlated with a high expansion of the interpolymer chains and an increase in the SIM dissolution rate. Iron-doped TiO2 catalysts with two different iron contents (0.7 and 3.5 wt.%) as well as the corresponding undoped system, prepared by a combined sol–gel/microemulsion method and calcined at 600 °C, have been examined with respect to their behaviour for photocatalytic degradation of aqueous phenol with H2O2 under solar light. The activity results are complemented with structural/morphological and electronic characterization analysis achieved by XRD, TEM, Raman, SBET, UV–vis DRS and XPS techniques. A detrimental effect of the presence of iron on the photoactivity is detected for the sample with 0.7 wt.% iron. In contrast, some activity enhancement is produced for the sample with highest iron loading. Such irregular catalytic behaviour with respect to iron loading is analyzed on the basis of the presence of additional catalytic contributions from new photoactive species. These are created as a consequence of surface modifications produced under reaction conditions related to the existence of phenomena of iron leaching from the catalysts. Differences in the specific nanostructure present in each case can also play a role on explaining the differences observed in the photoactivity. Epitope tagging is widely used to fuse a known epitope to proteins for which no affinity receptor is available by using recombinant DNA technology. One example is FLAG epitope (DYKDDDDK), which provides better purity and recoveries than the favorite polyhistidine tag. However, purification requires using anti-FLAG antibody resins, the high cost and non-reusability of which restrict widespread use. One cost-effective solution is provided by the use of bioinspired anti-FLAG molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). This work describes the development of MIPs, based on the epitope approach, synthesized from the tetrapeptide DYKD as template that affords purification of FLAG-derived recombinant proteins. Polymer was optimized by using a combinatorial approach to select the functional monomer(s) and cross-linker(s), resulting in the best specific affinity toward FLAG and the peptide DYKD. The imprinted resin obtained was used to purify mCherry proteins tagged with either FLAG or DYKD epitopes from crude cell lysates. Both mCherry variants were highly efficiently purified (R ≥ 95%, RSD ≤ 15%, n = 3) and impurities were removed. Mycotoxins are low molecular weight toxic compounds, which can cause severe health problems in animals and humans. Immunoassays allow rapid, simple and cost-effective screening of mycotoxins. Sandwich assays with a direct readout provide great improvement in terms of selectivity and sensitivity, compared to the widely used competitive assay formats, for the analysis of low molecular weight molecules. In this work, we report a non-competitive fluorescence anti-immune complex (IC) immunoassay, based on the specific recognition of HT-2 toxin with a pair of recombinant antibody fragments, namely antigen-binding fragment (Fab) (anti-HT-2 (10) Fab) and single-chain variable fragment (scFv) (anti-IC HT-2 (10) scFv). The SpyTag and SpyCatcher glue proteins were applied for the first time as a bioconjugation tool for the analysis of mycotoxins. To this aim, a SpyTag-mScarlet-I (fluorescent protein) and scFv-SpyCatcher fusion proteins were constructed, produced and fused in situ during the assay by spontaneous Tag-Catcher binding. The assay showed an excellent sensitivity with an EC50 of 4.8 ± 0.4 ng/mL and a dynamic range from 1.7 ± 0.3 to 13 ± 2 ng/mL, an inter-day reproducibility of 8.5% and a high selectivity towards HT-2 toxin without cross-reactivity with other Fusarium toxins. In this paper, a method to approximate the second minimum required in the computation of the check node update of an LDPC decoder based on min-sum algorithm is presented. The proposed approximation compensates the performance degradation caused by the utilization of a first minimum and pseudo-second minimum finder instead of a true two minimum finder in the min-sum algorithm and improves the BER performance of high-rate LDPC codes in the error floor region. This approach applied to a complete decoder reduces the critical path and the area with independence of the selected architecture. Therefore, this method increases the maximum throughput achieved by the decoder and its area-throughput efficiency. En la sociedad actual, en la que existe una clara tendencia al uso constante de tecnologías, se ha observado un escaso número de herramientas para la medición de la calidad de software deportivo. A través de la creación, validación y administración del cuestionario CUPEA, se pretende valorar dicha característica, además de verificar el nivel de aceptación de la aplicación entre los usuarios y su utilidad real. La validación del contenido, redacción y pertinencia de los ítems creados se consiguió a través de las valoraciones realizadas por 14 jueces expertos. La validación externa se obtuvo mediante la aplicación de la prueba test-retest a una muestra de 23 participantes de la Comunidad de Madrid. Posteriormente, se procedió a la comprobación de la fiabilidad del cuestionario mediante el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman; y para saber si existían diferencias significativas entre las respuestas dadas por el mismo sujeto se utilizó la prueba de los rangos con signo de Wilcoxon. Una vez diseñado y validado el cuestionario final, se procedió a efectuar una prueba experimental con 42 participantes para un software concreto, Easy_Aerobics. Del análisis e interpretación de los resultados obtenidos del cuestionario se ha podido concluir que se han respetado los criterios de fiabilidad, funcionalidad y usabilidad en su implementación, y CUPEA se ha mostrado como una herramienta válida para la medición de la usabilidad y de la calidad técnica del software., Nowadays, in a society with a clear trend towards a wide use of technologies, only few tools to measure the quality of sports software have been developed. This study seeks to assess the quality and also to verify the usefulness and acceptance of a sports software, by means of creating and validating the CUPEA questionnaire to be administered to real users. Validation of content and relevance was achieved through the assessment of 14 expert referees. External validation was obtained by a test-retest procedure applied to a sample of 23 participants from the region of Madrid (Spain). Reliability of the questionnaire was verified using the Spearman correlation, while the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was emplyed to look for significant differences between test and retest. After its design and validation, the final version of the questionnaire CUPEA was obtained. An experimental test was carried out with 42 users of Easy_Aerobics. Los nuevos confines a delimitar subyacen de las implicaciones neurocientíficas en sí mismas y de cómo estas se trasladan a la praxis escolar, si es que tuviesen validez en este campo. Aquí los neuromitos juegan un papel importante. Precisamente, la neuroética como ética aplicada o rama de la bioética recoge estos aspectos mediante la ética neuroeducativa y la neuroética educativa. En su rama fundamental, dicha disciplina abre el debate sobre la neuroeducación moral. Pero la posibilidad de reducir lo moral y todo lo que somos a nuestras bases neura-les deriva en nuevos límites. Para superarlos, destaca el potencial de una simbiosis sociocultural y biológica con las nociones de ‘neurocultura’ y de ‘epigénesis proactiva’. The article reflects on a necessary question for the evolution of cognitive processes through critical deliberation, the delimitation of boundaries and the estimation of progress. On the one hand, it argues that the experimental turn could call into question the ethical and humanistic goal of education; on the other hand, it argues that a systematic renunci-ation of neuroscientific advances would also mean abandoning the quest for human flourishing. The humanities alone do not provide the biopsychosocial approach from which we must understand our self-realisation. Thus, the first of the limits that is the origin of all the others arises from a scientific-humanist dilemma. The new boundaries to be delimited are the neuroscientific implications in themselves and how these are translated into educational if they were to be valid in this field. Here neuromyths play an important role. It is precisely neuroethics as an applied ethics or branch of bioethics that takes up these aspects through neuroeducational ethics and educational neuroethics. In its fundamental branch, this discipline opens the debate on moral neuroeducation. But the possibility of reducing morality and all that we are to our neural bases leads to new limits. To overcome them, he highlights the potential of a sociocultural and biological symbiosis with the notions of 'neuroculture' and 'proactive epigenesis'. A new library of E- and C-4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4adiaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) derivatives has been synthesized through a straightforward protocol from commercially available BODIPY complexes, and a systematic study of the photophysical properties and laser behavior related to the electronic properties of the B-substituent group (alkynyl, cyano, vinyl, aryl, and alkyl) has been carried out. The replacement of fluorine atoms by electron-withdrawing groups enhances the fluorescence response of the dye, whereas electrondonor groups diminish the fluorescence efficiency. As a consequence, these compounds exhibit enhanced laser action with respect to their parent dyes, both in liquid solution and in the solid phase, with lasing efficiencies under transversal pumping up to 73% in liquid solution and 53% in a solid matrix. The new dyes also showed enhanced photostability. In a solid matrix, the derivative of commercial dye PM597 that incorporated cyano groups at the boron center exhibited a very high lasing stability, with the laser emission remaining at the initial level after 100 000 pump pulses in the same position of the sample at a 10 Hz repetition rate. Distributed feedback laser emission was demonstrated with organic films that incorporated parent dye PM597 and its cyano derivative. The films were deposited onto quartz substrates engraved with appropriate periodical structures. Ionic liquids have shown promising results in biomass pretreatment; however, an extensive water washing step is necessary. This fact increases not only the processing costs but also those associated with the ionic liquid recovery step. In this work, Eucalyptus globulus wood pretreated with two acetate-based ionic liquids, namely 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate and choline acetate, has been washed with increasing volumes of water in order to analyze the influence of the amount of washing water used on the subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis stage and on the IL recovery costs. Vapor−liquid equilibria data of recovered ionic liquid/water mixtures have been determined to simulate the IL recovery step with Aspen Plus, calculating the operating costs using the Aspen Plus Economics Analyzer afterward. [Emim][OAc] was more efficiently washed and more effective toward wood pretreatment than [Ch][OAc]. Both IL/water systems were successfully modeled, and simulation studies showed that incremental volumes of water led to higher operating costs in the IL recovery step that are compensated with less IL makeup costs. This article reflects on whether today, there is a need for a ‘new’ educational ideal of rationality. To articulate that objective, a critical analysis is made of the pedagogical ideas underlying two conflicting trends: transhumanism and critical thinking. First, the distinctive identity of the transhumanist philosophical movement is examined in terms of its partial ascription to, and, given its attempts to overcome it, its renunciation of Humanism. In the face of the apparent promises and pitfalls that techno-science portends for pedagogical discourse, a distrust of reason is imminent. Contrary to such an assumption, critical thinking, as the embodiment of rationality in Israel Scheffler’s conception, illuminates the inconsistencies of scientific imperialism that conceal the moral-rational aspects of teaching. In view of the above, the discussion focuses on the relationship between theory and practice, justification and commitment, fallibility and wisdom; in short, between the moral and the rational of any educational ideal to be proposed., Questo articolo riflette sulla necessità di un “nuovo” ideale educativo di razionalità. Per articolare tale obiettivo, viene effettuata un’analisi critica delle idee pedagogiche alla base di due tendenze in conflitto: il transumanesimo e il pensiero critico. In primo luogo, si esamina l’identità distintiva del movimento filosofico transumanista in termini di parziale ascrizione e, visti i suoi tentativi di superamento, di rinuncia all’Umanesimo. Di fronte alle apparenti promesse e insidie che la tecno-scienza comporta per il discorso pedagogico, si profila una sfiducia nella ragione. However, its poor characteristics regarding surface energy and lack of polar functional groups have to be overcome to perform adhesion processes. The main objective of this work is to improve the adhesion behavior of polypropylene by combining atmospheric pressure plasma surface activation and silane adhesion promoter. Tetraethoxysilane hydrolysis and condensation are followed through infrared spectroscopy by attenuated total reflectance in order to set the coating conditions. Contact angle measurements and surface energy calculations as well as infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy are used to evaluate polymer chemical modifications. Morphological changes are studied through scanning electron and atomic force microscopy. Results show the ability of plasma treatment to create active oxydised functional groups on the polypropylene surface. These groups lead to a proper wetting of the polymer by the silane. Shear strength of single-lap bonding of polypropylene with a polyurethane adhesive suffers a significant improvement when the silane coating is applied on previously plasma activated samples. It has been also demonstrated that the silane curing conditions play a decisive role on the adhesion response. Atorvastatin is a potent lipid-lowering drug with poor solubility and high presystemic clearance that limits its therapeutic efficacy. The aim of this study was to develop solid dispersions and micellar systems to obtain fast -dissolving atorvastatin systems that enhances their anti-hyperlipidemic effect. Solubility and wettability studies allow the development of solid dispersions with low proportions of croscarmellose sodium as hydrophilic carrier. Solid state characterization studies indicated that the addition of Kolliphor (R) RH40 surfactant to solid dispersions increases intermolecular hydrogen bonding between drug and polymer chains. Dissolution studies in biorelevant Fasted State Simulate Intestinal Fluid (FaSSIF pH 6.5) medium showed for atorvastatin solid dispersion a su-persaturation peak of atorvastatin followed by an aggregation/precipitation process. Only the presence of a surfactant such as Kolliphor (R) RH40 in atorvastatin micellar system, promotes the presence of micelles that achieve delayed recrystallization. Efficacy studies were carried out using a hyperlipidemic model of rats fed with a high-fat diet. The atorvastatin micellar system at doses of 10 mg/kg, revealed a significant improvement in serum levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins, and triglycerides compared to atorvastatin raw ma-terial. Artificial intelligence (AI) is gradually changing the planet. Data digitisation, computing infrastructure and machine learning are helping AI tools to spread across all sectors of society. This article presents the results of a bibliometric analysis of AI-related publications in the social sciences over the last ten years (2013-2022). Most of the historical publications are taken into consideration with the aim of identifying research relevance and trends in this field. The results indicate that more than 19,408 articles have been published, 85% from 2008 to 2022, showing that research in this field is increasing significantly year on year. Clear domains or disciplines of research related to AI within the social sciences can be grouped into sub-areas such as law and legal reasoning, education, economics, and ethics. The United States is the country that publishes the most (20%), followed by China (13%). A side-by-side comparison of softwood (pine) vs hardwood (eucalyptus) pretreatment using 3 protic, 3 aprotic, and 3 choline-derived ionic liquids (ILs) is proposed. While the protic ionic liquid 2-hydroxyethylammonium formate leads to alkali lignin dissolution at 30 °C after 1 h, the lack of interactions with the whole-cell wall limits the biomass disruption. On the contrary, the protic ionic liquid 1-methylimidazolium chloride produces a catalytic effect that extracts almost all of the hemicelluloses, and partially the lignin. Remarkable digestibilities are obtained with choline acetate ([Ch][OAc]) in eucalyptus (69%), while in pine, protic, and choline-derived ILs tested do not appear to be real “greener” alternatives to conventional ILs such as 1-ethyl-3- methylimidazolium acetate (the highest digestibility, 84%). Solid morphology revealed a smoother surface in pine pretreated with [Mim][Cl], and confocal fluorescence microscopy was used to distinguish surface holocellulose and lignin, highlighting differences in the accessibility of hardwood vs softwood due to the presence of surface lignin. Two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of saccharified samples pretreated with [Ch][OAc] showed the presence of groups derived from acetate. This work reports the application of photocatalytic disinfection to the inactivation of Acanthamoeba trophozoites, a free-living pathogenic amoeba. Two types of photocatalytic reactors configurations have been used: i) a slurry reactor using suspended titanium dioxide (TiO2); and, ii) a fixed-bed reactor using immobilized TiO2 onto glass Raschig rings. The effect of the chemical composition of water has been analysed, comparing the efficiency of the process in deionized water (DW) and synthetic wastewater treatment plant effluent (SWTPE). The inactivation of Acanthamoeba spp. has been compared to that of Escherichia coli bacteria, being also analysed the concomitant inactivation of both microorganisms. Our results show that 99% of inactivation of E. coli and Acanthamoeba spp. can be achieved using photocatalysis in both reactor configurations, but interestingly, the kinetics of inactivation of both microorganisms together differs from that found with them separately. Particularly, E. coli seems to be more resistant to the inactivation in the presence of Acanthamoeba spp. which has been justified by the screen effect caused by the bigger size of Acanthamoeba spp. This observation is more pronounced in DW as the composition of the SWTPE prevent the microorganisms from suffering osmotic and/or mechanical stress and protect cellular structures to the attack of reactive oxygen species (ROS). On the other hand, the difference between the inactivation rate of E. coli and Acanthamoeba, points out the importance of the different inactivation mechanisms, suggesting that the entry of small TiO2 particles into the cytoplasm of the Acanthamoeba cells provokes the attack of inner structures and as a consequence a faster inactivation. This empirical study analyses the current status of Spanish universities from three vantage points: legal, economic and academic management. We use the content analysis technique to analyse all the universities that belong to CRUE (Conferencia de Rectors de las Universidades Españolas / Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities) from these three vantage points in order to inquire into some of the structural variables that affect the way these universities operate: people (rectors), programmes (contents) and budgets (economics and financing). The study finds that the leaders of Spanish universities are primarily men educated in the sciences and health sciences, and that there is notable margin for improvement in the Spanish university governance system., En este trabajo de investigación empírica, analizamos la situación actual de las universidades españolas desde tres contextos: jurídico, económico y de gestión académica. Fluorescence immunoassays are popular for achieving high sensitivity, but they display limitations in biological samples due to strong absorption of light, background fluorescence from matrix components, or light scattering by the biomacromolecules. A powerful strategy to overcome these problems is introduced here by using fluorescent magnetic nanobeads doped with two boron-dipyrromethane dyes displaying intense emission in the visible and near-infrared regions, respectively. Careful matching of the emission and absorption features of the dopants leads to a virtual Stokes shift larger than 150 nm achieved by an intraparticle Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) process between the donor and the acceptor dyes. Additionally, the magnetic properties of the fluorescent beads allow preconcentration of the sample. To illustrate the usefulness of this approach to increase the sensitivity of fluorescence immunoassays, the novel nanoparticles are employed as labels for quantification of the widely used Tacrolimus (FK506) immunosuppressive drug. En el presente estudio, se desarrollaron nuevas formulaciones de indometacina para mejorar la velocidad de disolución de la indometacina mediante la preparación de dispersiones sólidas mediante el método de liofilización. El grado de alteración de la cristalinidad de la indometacina se evaluó según el método de preparación y mediante la adición de hidroxipropilcelulosa poco sustituida. Las dispersiones sólidas mejoraron la velocidad de disolución de la indometacina. El uso combinado de microscopía electrónica de barrido, difracción de rayos X en polvo y calorimetría diferencial de barrido reveló la base del aumento en la velocidad de disolución de la indometacina cuando se formula como dispersiones sólidas de hidroxipropilcelulosa poco sustituidas., In the present study, new indomethacin formulations were developed in order to enhance the indomethacin dissolution rate by preparing solid dispersions using the freeze-drying method. The degree of alterations in the crystallinity of indomethacin was assessed according to the preparation method and by the addition of low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose. Las universidades tienen la responsabilidad de desempeñar un rol activo y fundamental en la promoción de la sostenibilidad; no obstante, se ha observado que la implementación del desarrollo sostenible en estas instituciones se encuentra en un estadio inicial. La docencia constituye una de las misiones centrales pero la integración efectiva de la sostenibilidad en esta dimensión aún plantea un gran reto. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la implementación de los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible (ODS) en el área de Información y Documentación. Para ello, se han analizado los planes docentes de los estudios de grado de un total de diez universidades públicas españolas mediante la clasificación manual de los ODS en base al contenido de la descripción de la sección de objetivos y descripción de cada una. Los resultados preliminares muestran que los ODS que se tratan en mayor medida son el de Educación de Calidad (ODS4) e Industria Innovación y Infraestructura (ODS9). Las mujeres destacan en las asignaturas que cuentan con mayor número de ODS. La asignación de los ODS 5, 9 y 10 responde a un patrón genérico, pues, mientras que los ODS5 (igualdad de género) y 10 (reducción de desigualdades) aparecen más frecuentemente en asignaturas correspondientes a profesoras o equipos mixtos, el ODS9 (industria, innovación e infraestructura) está asociado con los profesores. Asimismo, es especialmente en la tipología de asignaturas optativas donde se observa una mayor proporción de ODS con relación al número de asignaturas, revelando perfiles diversos según la universidad. Due to the recent advances in new communication standards, such as 5G New Radio and beyond 5G, and in quantum computing and communications, new requirements for integrating processors into nodes have appeared. These requirements are meant to provide flexibility in the network to reduce operational costs and support diversity in services and load balancing. They are also designed to integrate both new and classical algorithms into efficient and universal platforms, execute specific operations, and attend to tasks with lower latency. Furthermore, some cryptographic algorithms (classical and post-quantum), which are essential to portable devices, share the same arithmetic with error-correction codes. For example, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), elliptic curve cryptography, Classic McEliece, Hamming Quasi-Cyclic, and Reed-Solomon codes use GFð2mÞ arithmetic. As this arithmetic is the basis of many algorithms, a versatile RISC-V Galois field ISA extension is proposed in this work. The RISC-V instruction set extension is implemented and validated using SweRV-EL2 1.3 on a Nexys A7 FPGA. Hybrid photocatalysis/membrane processes constitute promising alternatives for water and wastewater treatment because they combine the efficiencies of filtration membranes technology and the oxidative effect of the photocatalytic process, increasing the lifetime of the membranes. The main challenge of these systems is the incorporation of the titanium dioxide (TiO2) catalyst without altering the filtration properties of the membrane and the photocatalytic activity of the catalyst. One way to achieve this goal is generating the TiO2 layer by direct anodization of titanium supports under controlled conditions to form titanium dioxide nanotubes (TiO2-NTs). This work reports the development of novel photocatalytic titanium membranes based on the formation of TiO2-NT arrays by anodization under both potentiostatic and galvanostatic conditions, and the scaling-up of the most promising systems to operational membrane photoreactors. The results demonstrated that the galvanostatic method displays more controlled tuneability to obtain NTs formation than the potentiostatic method on porous surfaces. However, despite the formation of TiO2-NTs structures, the observed photocatalytic activity is lower than that exhibited by TiO2 nanoparticles deposited directly on the membrane, although in this case the transmembrane pressure is significantly higher, and therefore the operational pumping costs are greater. CMOS technology is facing physical limitations in scaling the manufacturing process. Therefore, to deepen the development of better designs in a smaller area, it is necessary to look for other alternatives. One of the most studied approaches is Quantum Cellular Automata (QCA). However, it has the disadvantage of its reliability during the manufacturing processes, with high error rates that are difcult to improve. To contribute to the design of more reliable operators based on this technology, new fault-tolerant full-adders are presented in this paper. The proposed solutions improve area up to 57.14%, total energy dissipation up to 36.27%, and average energy dissipation per cycle up to 36.22% compared to those previously proposed. Antibodies are widely employed as biorecognition elements for the detection of a plethora of compounds including food and environmental contaminants, biomarkers, or illicit drugs. They are also applied in therapeutics for the treatment of several disorders. Recent recommendations from the EU on animal protection and the replacement of animal-derived antibodies by non-animal-derived ones have raised a great controversy in the scientific community. The application of recombinant antibodies is expected to achieve a high growth rate in the years to come thanks to their versatility and beneficial characteristics in comparison to monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, such as stability in harsh conditions, small size, relatively low production costs, and batch-to-batch reproducibility. This review describes the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of recombinant antibodies including antigen-binding fragments (Fab), single-chain fragment variable (scFv), and single-domain antibodies (VHH) and their application in food analysis with especial emphasis on the analysis of biotoxins, antibiotics, pesticides, and foodborne pathogens.
