1. Measurement of Neutron Whispering Gallery States Using a Pulsed Neutron Beam

Abstract: A neutron whispering gallery state is a quantum state localized on a material surface bound by the centrifugal force and the material potential. Precise measurements of such quantum states enable tests of quantum mechanics in non-inertial frames, characterization of the surface potential, and searches for hypothetical short-range interactions at the nanometer scale. We observed a neutron whispering gallery state on a $\mathrm{SiO}_2$ concave mirror using a pulsed cold neutron beam. The measured results agree with theoretical calculations within $1.9\%$ for the centrifugal acceleration $a \approx 7\times 10^7\,\mathrm{m/s^2}$, which is due to unmodeled deviations of the shape of the concave mirror edge from an ideal one. Abstract: In recent neutrino detectors, neutrons produced in neutrino reactions play an important role. Muon capture on oxygen nuclei is one of the processes that produce neutrons in water Cherenkov detectors. We measured neutron multiplicity in the process using cosmic ray muons that stop in the gadolinium-loaded Super-Kamiokande detector. For this measurement, neutron detection efficiency is obtained with the muon capture events followed by gamma rays to be $50.2^{+2.0}_{-2.1}\%$. By fitting the observed multiplicity considering the detection efficiency, we measure neutron multiplicity in muon capture as $P(0)=24\pm3\%$, $P(1)=70^{+3}_{-2}\%$, $P(2)=6.1\pm0.5\%$, $P(3)=0.38\pm0.09\%$. This is the first measurement of the multiplicity of neutrons associated with muon capture without neutron energy threshold.

Abstract: Photosensitive gaseous detectors with a simple photoelectron multiplication mechanism as resistive plate chambers are expected to offer both large photo coverage and excellent time resolution while keeping costs low. We have developed a gaseous photomultiplier (GasPM) and demonstrated that a single-photon time resolution is $25\pm1.1~\rm{ps}$ at the gain of $3.3\times10^6$ with a $\rm {LaB_6}$ photocathode, which has an extremely low quantum efficiency. We then developed a Cherenkov detector using GasPM with a $\rm{CsI}$ photocathode aiming for an application in time-of-flight measurements with a resolution below 10~$\rm{ps}$ for particle identification. We performed a test using the 3 GeV electron beam at the PF-AR test beamline located at KEK, Japan. As a result, the resolution of time-of-flight between the detector and an MCP-PMT is measured to be $\sigma=73.0\pm2.4~\rm{ps}$. The obtained resolution is worse than the target because of the lower gap voltage compared to the design. However, it is consistent with the expectation from the applied gap voltage. Abstract: The Soft X-ray Imager (SXI) is the X-ray charge-coupled device (CCD) camera for the soft X-ray imaging telescope Xtend installed on the X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM), which was adopted as a recovery mission for the Hitomi X-ray satellite and was successfully launched on 2023 September 7 (JST). In order to maximize the science output of XRISM, we set the requirements for Xtend and find that the CCD set employed in the Hitomi/SXI or similar, i.e., a $2 \times 2$ array of back-illuminated CCDs with a $200~\mu$m-thick depletion layer, would be practically best among available choices, when used in combination with the X-ray mirror assembly. We design the XRISM/SXI, based on the Hitomi/SXI, to have a wide field of view of $38' \times 38'$ in the $0.4-13$ keV energy range. We incorporated several significant improvements from the Hitomi/SXI into the CCD chip design to enhance the optical-light blocking capability and to increase the cosmic-ray tolerance, reducing the degradation of charge-transfer efficiency in orbit. By the time of the launch of XRISM, the imaging and spectroscopic capabilities of the SXI has been extensively studied in on-ground experiments with the full flight-model configuration or equivalent setups and confirmed to meet the requirements. The optical blocking capability, the cooling and temperature control performance, and the transmissivity and quantum efficiency to incident X-rays of the CCDs are also all confirmed to meet the requirements. 5. In-situ high voltage generation with Cockcroft-Walton multiplier for xenon gas time projection chamber

Abstract: We have newly developed a Cockcroft-Walton (CW) multiplier that can be used in a gas time projection chamber (TPC). TPC requires a high voltage to form an electric field that drifts ionization electrons. Supplying the high voltage from outside the pressure vessel requires a dedicated high-voltage feedthrough. An alternative approach is to generate the high voltage inside the pressure vessel with a relatively low voltage introduced from outside. CW multiplier can convert a low AC voltage input to a high DC voltage output, making it suitable for this purpose. We have integrated the CW multiplier into a high-pressure xenon gas TPC, called AXEL (A Xenon ElectroLuminescence detector), which have been developed to search for neutrinoless double beta decay of $^{136}$Xe. It detects ionization electrons by detecting electroluminescence with silicon photomultipliers, making it strong against electrical noises. An operation with the CW multiplier was successfully demonstrated; the TPC was operated for 77 days at 6.8 bar, and an energy resolution as high as (0.67 $\pm$ 0.08) % (FWHM) at 2615 keV was obtained., Comment: 23 pages, 21 figures, preprint for PTEP submission, typos corrected

Abstract: The ``neutron lifetime puzzle'' arises from the discrepancy between neutron lifetime measurements obtained using the beam method, which measures decay products, and the bottle method, which measures the disappearance of neutrons. To resolve this puzzle, we conducted an experiment using a pulsed cold neutron beam at J-PARC. In this experiment, the neutron lifetime is determined from the ratio of neutron decay counts to $^3$He(n,p)$^3$H reactions in a gas detector. This experiment belongs to the beam method but differs from previous experiments that measured protons, as it instead detects electrons, enabling measurements with distinct systematic uncertainties. By enlarging the beam transport system and reducing systematic uncertainties, we achieved a fivefold improvement in precision. Analysis of all acquired data yielded a neutron lifetime of $\tau_{\rm n}=877.2~\pm~1.7_{\rm(stat.)}~^{+4.0}_{-3.6}{}_{\rm (sys.)}$ s. This result is consistent with bottle method measurements but exhibits a 2.3$\sigma$ tension with the average value obtained from the proton-detection-based beam method., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

7. MAtCha Gaussians: Atlas of Charts for High-Quality Geometry and Photorealism From Sparse Views

Abstract: We present a novel appearance model that simultaneously realizes explicit high-quality 3D surface mesh recovery and photorealistic novel view synthesis from sparse view samples. Our key idea is to model the underlying scene geometry Mesh as an Atlas of Charts which we render with 2D Gaussian surfels (MAtCha Gaussians). MAtCha distills high-frequency scene surface details from an off-the-shelf monocular depth estimator and refines it through Gaussian surfel rendering. The Gaussian surfels are attached to the charts on the fly, satisfying photorealism of neural volumetric rendering and crisp geometry of a mesh model, i.e., two seemingly contradicting goals in a single model. At the core of MAtCha lies a novel neural deformation model and a structure loss that preserve the fine surface details distilled from learned monocular depths while addressing their fundamental scale ambiguities. Results of extensive experimental validation demonstrate MAtCha's state-of-the-art quality of surface reconstruction and photorealism on-par with top contenders but with dramatic reduction in the number of input views and computational time. We believe MAtCha will serve as a foundational tool for any visual application in vision, graphics, and robotics that require explicit geometry in addition to photorealism. 8. Enhanced Multi-Object Tracking Using Pose-based Virtual Markers in 3x3 Basketball

Abstract: Multi-object tracking (MOT) is crucial for various multi-agent analyses such as evaluating team sports tactics and player movements and performance. While pedestrian tracking has advanced with Tracking-by-Detection MOT, team sports like basketball pose unique challenges. These challenges include players' unpredictable movements, frequent close interactions, and visual similarities that complicate pose labeling and lead to significant occlusions, frequent ID switches, and high manual annotation costs. To address these challenges, we propose a novel pose-based virtual marker (VM) MOT method for team sports, named Sports-vmTracking. This method builds on the vmTracking approach developed for multi-animal tracking with active learning. First, we constructed a 3x3 basketball pose dataset for VMs and applied active learning to enhance model performance in generating VMs. Then, we overlaid the VMs on video to identify players, extract their poses with unique IDs, and convert these into bounding boxes for comparison with automated MOT methods. Using our 3x3 basketball dataset, we demonstrated that our VM configuration has been highly effective, and reduced the need for manual corrections and labeling during pose model training while maintaining high accuracy. Our approach achieved an average HOTA score of 72.3%, over 10 points higher than other state-of-the-art methods without VM, and resulted in 0 ID switches. Beyond improving performance in handling occlusions and minimizing ID switches, our framework could substantially increase the time and cost efficiency compared to traditional manual annotation.

9. A Wide and Deep Exploration of Radio Galaxies with Subaru HSC (WERGS). X. The Massive and Passive Nature of Radio Galaxies at $z \sim 4$

Abstract: High-$z$ radio galaxies (HzRGs) are considered important objects for understanding the formation and evolution of massive galaxies in the early universe. However, till date, detailed studies of the stellar population of HzRGs such as the star-formation history have been scarce. Therefore, this study conducted a new survey to establish a less-biased sample of HzRGs and consequently investigate their properties. We utilized a sample of $g$-dropout Lyman break galaxies (LBGs) obtained from an optical wide and deep imaging survey made by Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC). Based on the cross-matching of this LBG sample with the VLA FIRST radio survey data, we constructed a photometric sample of high-redshift radio galaxies (HzRGs) at $z \sim 4$ for $\sim$560 deg$^2$ survey field. Consequently, we identified 146 HzRG candidates. To analyze the characteristics of these candidates, we focus on objects exhibiting the near-infrared photometry of VIKING or UKIDSS and the mid-infrared photometry of unWISE (28 objects). The results indicate that 7 objects exhibit SEDs consistent with galaxies at $z \sim 4$. The HzRG candidates have very large stellar masses with $\sim 4.2 \times 10^{11} M_{\odot}$ on average. This stellar mass is similar to that of previously discovered USS HzRGs at $z \sim 4$, though our sample is affected by a sample selection bias that selects only HzRGs with $M_{\star} > 10^{11} M_{\odot}$. Further, the SEDs of those HzRG candidates suggest a past fast quenching with a rough timescale of $\sim$0.1 Gyr, as evidenced from the rest-frame UVJ diagram., Comment: 19 pages, 13 figures

10. Implication of a galaxy-scale negative feedback by one of the most powerful multi-phase outflows in a hyper-luminous infrared galaxy at the intermediate redshift

Abstract: Powerful, galactic outflows driven by Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) are commonly considered as a main mechanism to regulate star formation in massive galaxies. Ultra- and hyper-luminous IR galaxies (U/HyLIRGs) are thought to represent a transition phase of galaxies from a rapidly growing period to a quiescent status as gas swept out by outflows, providing a laboratory to investigate outflows and their feedback effects on the hosts. In this paper we report recent Gemini and ALMA observations of a HyLIRG, J1126 at $z=0.46842$, which has been identified with a puzzling co-existence of a fast ionized outflow ($>2000$ km s$^{-1}$) and an intense starburst (star formation rate of 800 $M_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$). The Gemini observation shows the fast ionized outflow is extended to several kpc with a mass-loss rate of 180 $M_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$. A massive molecular outflow with a high mass-loss rate (2500 $M_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$) is revealed by ALMA. The multi-phase outflows show large factors of momentum boost and loading of kinetic power, indicating a driving by thermal pressure of a nuclear hot wind and/or radiation pressure of a highly obscured AGN. In addition to ejection of kinetic energy, it is also found that the powerful outflow can induce an ionizing shock in the galaxy disk and enhance the excitation and dissociation of molecular gas. Abstract: Acceleration of positive muons from thermal energy to $100~$keV has been demonstrated. Thermal muons were generated by resonant multi-photon ionization of muonium atoms emitted from a sheet of laser-ablated aerogel. The thermal muons were first electrostatically accelerated to $5.7~$keV, followed by further acceleration to 100 keV using a radio-frequency quadrupole. The transverse normalized emittance of the accelerated muons in the horizontal and vertical planes were $0.85 \pm 0.25 ~\rm{(stat.)}~^{+0.22}_{-0.13} ~\rm{(syst.)}~\pi~$mm$\cdot$mrad and $0.32\pm 0.03~\rm{(stat.)} ^{+0.05}_{-0.02} ~\rm{(syst.)}~\pi~$mm$\cdot$mrad, respectively. The measured emittance values demonstrated phase space reduction by a factor of $2.0\times 10^2$ (horizontal) and $4.1\times 10^2$ (vertical) allowing good acceleration efficiency. These results pave the way to realize the first-ever muon accelerator for a variety of applications in particle physics, material science, and other fields.

Abstract: A search for proton decay into $e^+/\mu^+$ and a $\eta$ meson has been performed using data from a 0.373 Mton$\cdot$year exposure (6050.3 live days) of Super-Kamiokande. Compared to previous searches this work introduces an improved model of the intranuclear $\eta$ interaction cross section, resulting in a factor of two reduction in uncertainties from this source and $\sim$10\% increase in signal efficiency. No significant data excess was found above the expected number of atmospheric neutrino background events resulting in no indication of proton decay into either mode. Lower limits on the proton partial lifetime of $1.4\times\mathrm{10^{34}~years}$ for $p\rightarrow e^+\eta$ and $7.3\times\mathrm{10^{33}~years}$ for $p\rightarrow \mu^+\eta$ at the 90$\%$ C.L. were set. These limits are around 1.5 times longer than our previous study and are the most stringent to date.

Abstract: We analyze the Spitzer spectra of 140 active galactic nuclei (AGN) detected in the hard X-rays (14-195 keV) by the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on board Swift. This sample allows us to probe several orders of magnitude in black hole masses ($10^6-10^9 M_{\odot}$), Eddington ratios ($10^{-3}-1$), X-ray luminosities ($10^{42}-10^{45}\rm\,erg\,s^{-1}$), and X-ray column densities ($10^{20}-10^{24}\rm\,cm^{-2}$). The AGN emission is expected to be the dominant source of ionizing photons with energies $\gtrsim50$ eV, and therefore high-ionization mid-infrared (MIR) emission lines such as [Ne V] 14.32, 24.32 $\mu$m and [O IV] 25.89 $\mu$m are predicted to be good proxies of AGN activity, and robust against obscuration effects. We find high detection rates ($\gtrsim85-90$ per cent) for the mid-infrared coronal emission lines in our AGN sample. The luminosities of these lines are correlated with the 14-150 keV luminosity (with a typical scatter of $\sigma \sim 0.4-0.5$ dex), strongly indicating that the mid-infrared coronal line emission is driven by AGN activity. Interestingly, we find that the coronal lines are more tightly correlated to the bolometric luminosity ($\sigma \sim 0.2-0.3$ dex), calculated from careful analysis of the spectral energy distribution, than to the X-ray luminosity. We find that the relationship between the coronal line strengths and $L_{14-150\rm\,keV}$ is independent of black hole mass, Eddington ratio and X-ray column density. Abstract: We propose ratio divergence (RD) learning for discrete energy-based models, a method that utilizes both training data and a tractable target energy function. We apply RD learning to restricted Boltzmann machines (RBMs), which are a minimal model that satisfies the universal approximation theorem for discrete distributions. RD learning combines the strength of both forward and reverse Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD) learning, effectively addressing the "notorious" issues of underfitting with the forward KLD and mode-collapse with the reverse KLD. Since the summation of forward and reverse KLD seems to be sufficient to combine the strength of both approaches, we include this learning method as a direct baseline in numerical experiments to evaluate its effectiveness. Numerical experiments demonstrate that RD learning significantly outperforms other learning methods in terms of energy function fitting, mode-covering, and learning stability across various discrete energy-based models. 15. Cooperative dynamic polaronic picture of diamond color centers

Abstract: Polarons can control carrier mobility and can also be used in the design of quantum devices. Although much effort has been directed into investigating the nature of polarons, observation of defect-related polarons is challenging due to electron-defect scattering. Here we explore the polaronic behavior of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in a diamond crystal using an ultrafast pump-probe technique. A 10-fs optical pulse acts as a source of high electric field exceeding the dielectric breakdown threshold, in turn exerting a force on the NV charge distribution and polar optical phonons. The electronic and phononic responses are enhanced by an order of magnitude for a low density of NV centers, which we attribute to a combination of cooperative polaronic effects and scattering by defects. First-principles calculations support the presence of dipolar Fr\"ohlich interaction via non-zero Born effective charges. 16. Statistical Mechanics of Min-Max Problems

Abstract: Min-max optimization problems, also known as saddle point problems, have attracted significant attention due to their applications in various fields, such as fair beamforming, generative adversarial networks (GANs), and adversarial learning. However, understanding the properties of these min-max problems has remained a substantial challenge. This study introduces a statistical mechanical formalism for analyzing the equilibrium values of min-max problems in the high-dimensional limit, while appropriately addressing the order of operations for min and max. As a first step, we apply this formalism to bilinear min-max games and simple GANs, deriving the relationship between the amount of training data and generalization error and indicating the optimal ratio of fake to real data for effective learning. 17. SpinMultiNet: Neural Network Potential Incorporating Spin Degrees of Freedom with Multi-Task Learning

Abstract: Neural Network Potentials (NNPs) have attracted significant attention as a method for accelerating density functional theory (DFT) calculations. However, conventional NNP models typically do not incorporate spin degrees of freedom, limiting their applicability to systems where spin states critically influence material properties, such as transition metal oxides. This study introduces SpinMultiNet, a novel NNP model that integrates spin degrees of freedom through multi-task learning. SpinMultiNet achieves accurate predictions without relying on correct spin values obtained from DFT calculations. Instead, it utilizes initial spin estimates as input and leverages multi-task learning to optimize the spin latent representation while maintaining both $E(3)$ and time-reversal equivariance. Validation on a dataset of transition metal oxides demonstrates the high predictive accuracy of SpinMultiNet. The model successfully reproduces the energy ordering of stable spin configurations originating from superexchange interactions and accurately captures the rhombohedral distortion of the rocksalt structure. 18. Optimization by Parallel Quasi-Quantum Annealing with Gradient-Based Sampling

Abstract: Learning-based methods have gained attention as general-purpose solvers due to their ability to automatically learn problem-specific heuristics, reducing the need for manually crafted heuristics. However, these methods often face scalability challenges. To address these issues, the improved Sampling algorithm for Combinatorial Optimization (iSCO), using discrete Langevin dynamics, has been proposed, demonstrating better performance than several learning-based solvers. This study proposes a different approach that integrates gradient-based update through continuous relaxation, combined with Quasi-Quantum Annealing (QQA). QQA smoothly transitions the objective function, starting from a simple convex function, minimized at half-integral values, to the original objective function, where the relaxed variables are minimized only in the discrete space. Furthermore, we incorporate parallel run communication leveraging GPUs to enhance exploration capabilities and accelerate convergence. Numerical experiments demonstrate that our method is a competitive general-purpose solver, achieving performance comparable to iSCO and learning-based solvers across various benchmark problems. 20. Production and in-medium modification of $\phi$ mesons in proton-nucleus reactions from a transport approach

Abstract: Production and in-medium modification of hidden strange $\phi$ mesons are studied in proton-nucleus reactions - p+C, p+Cu and p+Pb - at 12 GeV/c, partially measured by the KEK E325 collaboration via the dilepton decay mode. This work is based on the off-shell microscopic Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach, which provides the dynamical description of strongly interacting hadronic and partonic degrees of freedom in dense matter, and especially makes it possible to simulate in-medium off-shell dynamics of the $\phi$ meson in the reactions studied. Different in-medium scenarios for the modification of the $\phi$ meson spectral function in nuclear matter are investigated: i) dropping pole mass, ii) collisional broadening and iii) simultaneous dropping pole mass and collisional broadening. Even though the $\phi$ meson production in p+A reactions occurs only at densities around or below normal nuclear matter density $\rho_0$, we find visible modifications of the generated dilepton spectra for the in-medium scenarios compared to the vacuum distribution., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

21. Training-Free Time-Series Anomaly Detection: Leveraging Image Foundation Models

Abstract: Recent advancements in time-series anomaly detection have relied on deep learning models to handle the diverse behaviors of time-series data. However, these models often suffer from unstable training and require extensive hyperparameter tuning, leading to practical limitations. Although foundation models present a potential solution, their use in time series is limited. To overcome these issues, we propose an innovative image-based, training-free time-series anomaly detection (ITF-TAD) approach. ITF-TAD converts time-series data into images using wavelet transform and compresses them into a single representation, leveraging image foundation models for anomaly detection. This approach achieves high-performance anomaly detection without unstable neural network training or hyperparameter tuning. Furthermore, ITF-TAD identifies anomalies across different frequencies, providing users with a detailed visualization of anomalies and their corresponding frequencies. Comprehensive experiments on five benchmark datasets, including univariate and multivariate time series, demonstrate that ITF-TAD offers a practical and effective solution with performance exceeding or comparable to that of deep models.

Abstract: The neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) is a sensitive probe for currently undiscovered sources of charge-parity symmetry violation. As part of the TRIUMF Ultracold Advanced Neutron (TUCAN) collaboration, we are developing spin analyzers for ultracold neutrons (UCNs) to be used for a next-generation experiment to measure the neutron EDM with unprecedented precision. Spin-state analysis of UCNs constitutes an essential part of the neutron EDM measurement sequence. Magnetized iron films used as spin filters of UCNs are crucial experimental components, whose performance directly influences the statistical sensitivity of the measurement. To test such iron film spin filters, we propose the use of polarized cold-neutron reflectometry, in addition to conventional UCN transmission experiments. The new method provides information on iron film samples complementary to the UCN tests and accelerates the development cycles. We developed a collaborative effort to produce iron film spin filters and test them with cold and ultracold neutrons available at JRR-3/MINE2 and J-PARC/MLF BL05. In this article, we review the methods of neutron EDM measurements, discuss the complementarity of this new approach to test UCN spin filters, provide an overview of our related activities, and present the first results of polarized cold-neutron reflectometry recently conducted at the MINE2 beamline.

23. Little Red Dots: Rapidly Growing Black Holes Reddened by Extended Dusty Flows

Abstract: The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observations have revolutionized extragalactic research, particularly with the discovery of little red dots (LRD), which we propose are dust-reddened broad-line active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Their unique v-shape spectral feature observed through JWST/NIRCam challenges us to discern the relative contributions of the galaxy and AGN. We study a spectral energy distribution (SED) model for LRDs from rest-frame UV to infrared bands. We hypothesize that the incident radiation from an AGN, characterized by a typical SED, is embedded in an extended dusty medium with an extinction law similar to those seen in dense regions such as Orion Nebula or certain AGN environments. The UV-optical spectrum is described by dust-attenuated AGN emission, featuring a red optical continuum at $\lambda>4000$ A and a flat UV spectral shape established through a gray extinction curve at $\lambda<3000$ A, due to the absence of small-size grains. There is no need for additional stellar emission or AGN scattered light. In the infrared, the SED is shaped by an extended dust and gas distribution ($\gamma<1$; $\rho\propto r^{-\gamma}$) with a characteristic gas density of $\simeq 10-10^3~{\rm cm}^{-3}$, which allows relatively cool dust temperatures to dominate the radiation, thereby shifting the energy peak from near- to mid-infrared bands. This model, unlike the typical AGN hot torus models, can produce an infrared SED flattening that is consistent with LRD observations through JWST MIRI. Such a density structure can arise from the coexistence of inflows and outflows during the early assembly of galactic nuclei. Abstract: We examined the affection of the flux-trapped states of Sn60-Pb40 solders on superconducting properties of a Sn wire. The temperature dependence of electrical resistivity at H = 0 Oe after zero-field cooling (ZFC) showed a sharp superconducting transition at T = 3.7 K. In contrast, that after field cooling (FC) resulted in broadening of the transition. The difference between ZFC and FC data evidences critical affection of trapped fluxes at solders on superconducting states. 25. Designing Superionic Conductors Using Tetrahedrally Packed Structures

Abstract: In the pursuit of advanced energy storage solutions, the crystal structure of ionic conductors plays a pivotal role in facilitating ion transport. The conventional structural design principle that compounds with the body-centered cubic (BCC) anionic frameworks have high ionic conductivity is well known. We have extended the conventional design principle by uncovering that many of the anionic frameworks of Ag-ion conductors are characterized by tetrahedrally packed (TP) structures. Leveraging our findings, we have virtually screened TP framework compounds, uncovering their intrinsic potential for superior ionic conductivity through first-principles molecular dynamics simulations. Our design principle is applicable to Ag$^+$ and other mobile ions, including Li$^+$ and F$^-$. We proposed the Met2Ion method to generate ionic crystal structures using metal crystal structures as templates and demonstrated that new ionic conductors with TP frameworks can be discovered. 26. Ongoing and fossil large-scale outflows detected in a high-redshift radio galaxy: [C II] observations of TN J0924$-$2201 at $z=5.174$

Abstract: We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array observations of the [C II] 158 $\mu$m line and the underlying continuum emission of TN J0924$-$2201, which is one of the most distant known radio galaxies at $z>5$. The [C II] line and 1-mm continuum emission are detected at the host galaxy. The systemic redshift derived from the [C II] line is $z_{\rm [C II]}=5.1736\pm0.0002$, indicating that the Ly$\alpha$ line is redshifted by a velocity of $1035\pm10$ km s$^{-1}$, marking the largest velocity offset between the [C II] and Ly$\alpha$ lines recorded at $z>5$ to date. In the central region of the host galaxy, we identified a redshifted substructure of [C II] with a velocity of $702\pm17$ km s$^{-1}$, which is close to the CIV line with a velocity of $500\pm10$ km s$^{-1}$. The position and the velocity offsets align with a model of an outflowing shell structure, consistent with the large velocity offset of Ly$\alpha$. The non-detection of [C II] and dust emission from the three CO(1--0)-detected companions indicates their different nature compared to dwarf galaxies based on the photodissociation region model. Given their large velocity of $\sim1500$ km s$^{-1}$, outflowing molecular clouds induced by the AGN is the most plausible interpretation, and they may exceed the escape velocity of a $10^{13}\,M_{\odot}$ halo. These results suggest that TN J0924$-$2201, with the ongoing and fossil large-scale outflows, is in a distinctive phase of removing molecular gas from a central massive galaxy in an overdense region in the early universe. Abstract: Xtend is one of the two telescopes onboard the X-ray imaging and spectroscopy mission (XRISM), which was launched on September 7th, 2023. Xtend comprises the Soft X-ray Imager (SXI), an X-ray CCD camera, and the X-ray Mirror Assembly (XMA), a thin-foil-nested conically approximated Wolter-I optics. A large field of view of $38^{\prime}\times38^{\prime}$ over the energy range from 0.4 to 13 keV is realized by the combination of the SXI and XMA with a focal length of 5.6 m. The SXI employs four P-channel, back-illuminated type CCDs with a thick depletion layer of 200 $\mu$m. The four CCD chips are arranged in a 2$\times$2 grid and cooled down to $-110$ $^{\circ}$C with a single-stage Stirling cooler. Before the launch of XRISM, we conducted a month-long spacecraft thermal vacuum test. The performance verification of the SXI was successfully carried out in a course of multiple thermal cycles of the spacecraft. About a month after the launch of XRISM, the SXI was carefully activated and the soundness of its functionality was checked by a step-by-step process. Commissioning observations followed the initial operation. We here present pre- and post-launch results verifying the Xtend performance. Abstract: XRISM (X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission) is an astronomical satellite with the capability of high-resolution spectroscopy with the X-ray microcalorimeter, Resolve, and wide field-of-view imaging with the CCD camera, Xtend. Xtend consists of the mirror assembly (XMA: X-ray Mirror Assembly) and detector (SXI: Soft X-ray Imager). The SXI is composed of CCDs, analog and digital electronics, and a mechanical cooler. After the successful launch on September 6th, 2023 (UT) and subsequent critical operations, the mission instruments were turned on and set up. The CCDs have been kept at the designed operating temperature of $-110^\circ$C after the electronics and cooling system were successfully set up. During the initial operation phase, which continued for more than a month after the critical operations, we verified the observation procedure, stability of the cooling system, all the observation options with different imaging areas and/or timing resolutions, and time-tagged and automated operations including those for South Atlantic Anomaly passages. We optimized the operation procedure and observation parameters including the cooler settings, imaging areas for the small window modes, and event selection algorithm. We summarize our policy and procedure of the initial operations for the SXI. Abstract: Highly efficient anti-Stokes (AS) photoluminescence (PL) is observed from halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) due to their strong electron-phonon interactions. The AS PL is particularly intriguing as it suggests the potential for semiconductor optical cooling if the external quantum efficiency approaches 100%. However, the PL quantum efficiency in QDs is primarily dominated by multiparticle nonradiative Auger recombination processes under intense photoexcitation, which impose limits on the optical cooling gain. Here, we investigate the Auger recombination of dot-in-crystal perovskites. We quantitatively estimate the maximum optical cooling gain and the corresponding excitation intensity. We further conducted optical cooling experiments and demonstrate a maximum photo-cooling of approximately 9 K from room temperature. Additionally, we confirmed that increasing the excitation intensity leads to a transition from photo-cooling to photo-heating. These observations are consistent with our time-resolved measurements, offering insights into the potential and limitations of optical cooling in semiconductor QDs.

Abstract: The current standard model of cosmology successfully describes a variety of measurements, but the nature of its main ingredients, dark matter and dark energy, remains unknown. Euclid is a medium-class mission in the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 programme of the European Space Agency (ESA) that will provide high-resolution optical imaging, as well as near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy, over about 14,000 deg^2 of extragalactic sky. In addition to accurate weak lensing and clustering measurements that probe structure formation over half of the age of the Universe, its primary probes for cosmology, these exquisite data will enable a wide range of science. This paper provides a high-level overview of the mission, summarising the survey characteristics, the various data-processing steps, and data products. Abstract: The Super-Kamiokande and T2K collaborations present a joint measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters from their atmospheric and beam neutrino data. It uses a common interaction model for events overlapping in neutrino energy and correlated detector systematic uncertainties between the two datasets, which are found to be compatible. Abstract: Upgrade work towards increasing the beam intensity of the neutrino beamline at J- PARC is underway. Monitoring tertiary muon beams is essential for stable operation of the beamline. Accordingly, we plan to replace the present muon monitor sensors with electron multiplier tubes (EMTs). We investigated the radiation tolerance and linearity response of EMTs using a 90 MeV electron beam. An EMTs was irradiated with electrons up to 470 nC. EMTs show higher radiation tolerance than the Si sensors which are presently used as one of the muon monitor detectors for the T2K long-baseline neutrino experiment at J-PARC. The integrated charge yield decrease is found to be less than 8% after a beam irradiation equivalent to 132 days of operation at the future J-PARC beam power of 1.3 MW. The EMTs show linearity better than $\pm$5% up to the future beam intensity. The observed yield decrease is likely due to dynode deterioration based on the detailed investigation. The studies described here confirm that EMTs can be used as a high-intensity muon beam monitor. 48. QANA: LLM-based Question Generation and Network Analysis for Zero-shot Key Point Analysis and Beyond

Abstract: The proliferation of social media has led to information overload and increased interest in opinion mining. We propose "Question-Answering Network Analysis" (QANA), a novel opinion mining framework that utilizes Large Language Models (LLMs) to generate questions from users' comments, constructs a bipartite graph based on the comments' answerability to the questions, and applies centrality measures to examine the importance of opinions. We investigate the impact of question generation styles, LLM selections, and the choice of embedding model on the quality of the constructed QA networks by comparing them with annotated Key Point Analysis datasets. QANA achieves comparable performance to previous state-of-the-art supervised models in a zero-shot manner for Key Point Matching task, also reducing the computational cost from quadratic to linear. For Key Point Generation, questions with high PageRank or degree centrality align well with manually annotated key points. Notably, QANA enables analysts to assess the importance of key points from various aspects according to their selection of centrality measure. Abstract: Preceding a core-collapse supernova, various processes produce an increasing amount of neutrinos of all flavors characterized by mounting energies from the interior of massive stars. Among them, the electron antineutrinos are potentially detectable by terrestrial neutrino experiments such as KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande via inverse beta decay interactions. Once these pre-supernova neutrinos are observed, an early warning of the upcoming core-collapse supernova can be provided. In light of this, KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande, both located in the Kamioka mine in Japan, have been monitoring pre-supernova neutrinos since 2015 and 2021, respectively. Recently, we performed a joint study between KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande on pre-supernova neutrino detection. A pre-supernova alert system combining the KamLAND detector and the Super-Kamiokande detector was developed and put into operation, which can provide a supernova alert to the astrophysics community. Fully leveraging the complementary properties of these two detectors, the combined alert is expected to resolve a pre-supernova neutrino signal from a 15 M$_{\odot}$ star within 510 pc of the Earth, at a significance level corresponding to a false alarm rate of no more than 1 per century. Abstract: Neutrinos from very nearby supernovae, such as Betelgeuse, are expected to generate more than ten million events over 10\,s in Super-Kamokande (SK). At such large event rates, the buffers of the SK analog-to-digital conversion board (QBEE) will overflow, causing random loss of data that is critical for understanding the dynamics of the supernova explosion mechanism. In order to solve this problem, two new DAQ modules were developed to aid in the observation of very nearby supernovae. The first of these, the SN module, is designed to save only the number of hit PMTs during a supernova burst and the second, the Veto module, prescales the high rate neutrino events to prevent the QBEE from overflowing based on information from the SN module. In the event of a very nearby supernova, these modules allow SK to reconstruct the time evolution of the neutrino event rate from beginning to end using both QBEE and SN module data. This paper presents the development and testing of these modules together with an analysis of supernova-like data generated with a flashing laser diode. We demonstrate that the Veto module successfully prevents DAQ overflows for Betelgeuse-like supernovae as well as the long-term stability of the new modules. During normal running the Veto module is found to issue DAQ vetos a few times per month resulting in a total dead time less than 1\,ms, and does not influence ordinary operations. Additionally, using simulation data we find that supernovae closer than 800~pc will trigger Veto module resulting in a prescaling of the observed neutrino data., Comment: 28 pages, 18 figures.
