1. Tree populations show low regeneration of valued species in West Africa

Abstract

Tree populations have declined substantially in West Africa in recent decades, raising concerns since trees provide numerous ecosystem goods and services. Regional information on the population status of tree species could guide more effective conservation and regeneration of natural vegetation. Here, we report results of the first regional analysis of tree population structure across the Sahel and Sudan zones, a meta-study of vegetation inventories, including 23,586 individual trees sampled across nine countries. We evaluated current status and forecast future trends of 16 species and one genus of trees of ecological and socio-economic importance. Size class distribution (SCD) reflects the population structure of an individual species and can provide early warning of composition change and population decline. SCD is analysed widely at a local scale, but analysis at a regional scale is needed to detect widespread population changes. Many native species lacked trees in the smaller size classes, implying unsustainable populations and future decline. Some species show sound regeneration at the regional scale, but high variation among sites. Eight species, including Adansonia digitata and Afzelia africana, show regional declines in regeneration and risks of future extirpations. Four of these severely lack regeneration. Protected areas show higher tree regeneration, but protected status did not assure good regeneration. Our results identify priority tree species across West Africa, indicate a more urgent need for conservation and regeneration of native tree species, and highlight the benefit of effective conservation. More widespread protection could increase tree populations, conserving biodiversity, and ecosystem services essential for people's livelihoods.

Abstract

The Jordan type $P_{A,\ell}$ of a linear form $\ell$ acting on a graded Artinian algebra $A$ over a field $\sf k$ is the partition describing the Jordan block decomposition of the multiplication map $m_\ell$, which is nilpotent. The Jordan degree type $\mathcal S_{A,\ell}$ is a finer invariant, describing also the initial degrees of the simple submodules of $A$ in a decomposition of $A$ as ${\sf k}[\ell]$-modules. The set of Jordan types of $A$ or Jordan degree types (JDT) of $A$ as $\ell$ varies, is an invariant of the algebra. This invariant has been studied for codimension two graded algebras. We here extend the previous results to certain codimension three graded Artinian Gorenstein (AG) algebras - those of small Sperner number. Given a Gorenstein sequence $T$ - one possible for the Hilbert function of a codimension three AG algebra - the irreducible variety $\mathrm{Gor}(T)$ parametrizes all Gorenstein algebras of Hilbert function $T$. We here completely determine the JDT possible for all pairs $(A,\ell), A\in \mathrm{Gor}(T)$, for Gorenstein sequences $T$ of the form $T=(1,3,s^k,3,1)$ for Sperner number $s=3,4,5$ and arbitrary multiplicity $k$. For $s=6$ we delimit the prospective JDT, without verifying that each occurs.

7. Epidemiological investigation of a pertussis outbreak among schoolchildren in Burkina Faso, 2019

Abstract

Abstract Introduction Pertussis remains among the top ten most common fatal aetiologies of acute respiratory infections worldwide. This study reports findings from the first laboratory-confirmed pertussis outbreak among primary schoolchildren in Burkina Faso. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted during an outbreak in the districts of Sabou and Sapouy following an alert from the national surveillance system. Suspected pertussis cases were investigated, with oropharyngeal/nasopharyngeal samples and sociodemographic and clinical data collected. Samples were analyzed using multiplex rRT-PCR and the FTD-33 Kit (Fast Track Diagnostics, Luxembourg). Descriptive statistics were conducted, and factors associated with pertussis positive cases were assessed using the Chi-square test and univariate logistic regression. Results A total of 92 suspected pertussis cases with no fatal outcomes were identified among the schoolchildren in two different clusters during the investigation. The overall attack rate of the two clusters were 18.4% (92/499). Fifteen (16.6%) cases were biologically confirmed. The average age was 8.9 years, and 62% (57/92) were female. Rhinovirus (17.3%) and adenovirus (7.6%) were the most prevalent respiratory viruses detected among the suspected cases. Streptococcus pneumoniae (58.7%) and Haemophilus influenzae (56.5%) were the most common bacteria detected. A significant association was found between sore throat and confirmed cases (OR = 3.5, CI 95% [1.01–11.9]). Conclusion Despite extensive vaccination in several countries, pertussis can still cause outbreaks. Preventive measures, such as booster vaccinations for children outside the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) target age, are necessary.

Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization Safe Childbirth Checklist (WHO SCC) was developed to increase the uptake of essential birth practices; however, only a few studies have adopted this process in French West African countries. Aim: This study aimed to describe the WHO SCC adaptation process across Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Guinea, and the lessons learned. Setting: Adaptation processes were conducted in the above-mentioned countries. Methods: From May 2022 to November 2022, a cross-country adaptation of the WHO SCC was carried out using a co-creation approach following a modified Delphi process. This process included the contextual adaptation of the tool by local technical advisory groups in each country based on national guidelines, the harmonisation and production of a single modified SCC by the Cross-Country Technical Advisory Group, a pre-test of the modified SCC, and adoption. Results: Minor modifications were made on 27 items. No items were deleted. Two items related to hand hygiene and the use of protective equipment were added at the ‘just before pushing’ pause point. The modified SCC implemented in each country consisted of 31 items, with variations observed in the timing of the monitoring signs when plotting the partograph. The tool was introduced following the A3 and kakemono formats. Conclusion: The study emphasised the importance of engaging all stakeholders and end users in the adaptation process for a sustainable use of the tool. Contribution: This collaborative effort between countries to develop a unified SCC highlights the importance of adaptation based on national guidelines and local contexts.

Abstract

Sur la base d’études antérieures, ayant démontré une efficacité in vitro de l’huile essentielle de Cymbopogon giganteus Chiov. (Poaceae) sur les germes impliqués dans l’angine de gorge, l’objectif de cette étude était de développer un collutoire à base de cette huile pour le traitement de l’angine. L’huile d’olive a été utilisée comme phase dispersée, le TWEEN 60 et SPAN 60 comme tensio-actifs pour stabiliser l’émulsion pour le collutoire. Plusieurs essais utilisant différentes proportions d’huile d’olive ont été nécessaires avant d’obtenir la préparation la plus stable. La caractérisation du collutoire a été effectuée au moyen de tests organoleptiques et microscopiques. Le sens de l’émulsion a été déterminé par les tests colorants et confirmé par le test de conductivité électrique. L’absence d’instabilité du collutoire a été vérifiée au moyen de tests de stabilité physique, à la température et à la centrifugeuse. La stérilité du collutoire a été recherchée par ensemencement sur différents milieux gélosés. Après plusieurs essais, seule la préparation à 40 % d’huile d’olive à l’aspect blanc laiteux et au toucher gras était stable avec une absence de floculation et de coalescence et sans observation de phénomènes d’instabilités à type de crémage ou de sédimentation. Les tests de conductivité (49,2 µS/cm) ont confirmé le sens huile dans l’eau (H/E) de l’émulsion. Les tests de stérilité ont été concluants en l’absence de prolifération de microorganisme après 5 jours d’incubation. Cette étude a permis la formulation d’un collutoire à base d’huile essentielle de Cymbopogon giganteus présentant un bon profil, de qualité et de stabilité.

Abstract

BackgroundResistance to insecticides is spreading among populations of Aedes aegypti, the primary vector of important human arboviruses. The escalating insecticide resistance poses a significant threat to dengue vector control, with an expanding number of countries affected by the disease. To gain a deeper insight into the evolution of insecticide resistance, it is essential to have longitudinal surveillance results, which are currently lacking, particularly from African Ae. aegypti populations. Here we report on three-years of surveillance of Ae. aegypti susceptibility to insecticide resistance phenotypes and associated kdr mutations in Burkina Faso, a country with regular dengue outbreaks.MethodsAe. aegypti susceptibility to insecticides and the V410L, V1016I, and F1534C kdr target site mutations linked to pyrethroid insecticide resistance were monitored in Ouagadougou from 2016 to 2018. Larvae were collected from artificial containers at two sites and reared to adulthood in an insectary. Bioassays were conducted on female adults, along with a laboratory-susceptible strain, following standard WHO protocols. Allele-specific PCR genotyping assays were utilized to identify the V410L, V1016I, and F1534C kdr pyrethroid target site mutations.ResultsBioassays revealed a high level of resistance to permethrin and deltamethrin that progressively increased over the three-year period in both localities. The 1534C mutation was nearly fixed throughout the three years at each locality, and while the closely-related 410L and 1016I mutations did not vary between localities, their frequency notably increased from 2016 to 2018. Interestingly, Ae. aegypti populations in both areas remained susceptible to bendiocarb, fenitrothion, and malathion. Modelling the mortality data further confirmed the escalating resistance trend over the years and emphasized the significant role played by the three kdr mutations in conferring resistance to pyrethroids.ConclusionMortality rates indicate that Ae. aegypti populations from Ouagadougou are becoming increasingly resistant to pyrethroid insecticides, likely due to an increase in the frequencies of the 410L and 1016I kdr mutations. Organophosphate insecticides are likely to be better alternative options for control.

Abstract

Let $R={\sf k}[x,y,z]$, the polynomial ring over a field $\sf k$. Several of the authors previously classified nets of ternary conics and their specializations over an algebraically closed field. We here show that when $\sf k$ is algebraically closed, and the Hilbert function sequence $T=(1,3^k,1), k\ge 2$ (i.e. $T=(1,3,3,\ldots,3,1)$ where $k$ is the multiplicity of $3$) then the family $G_T$ parametrizing graded Artinian algebra quotients $A=R/I$ of $R$ having Hilbert function $T$ is irreducible, and $G_T$ is the closure of the family $\mathrm{Gor}(T)$ of Artinian Gorenstein algebras of Hilbert function $T$. We then classify up to isomorphism the elements of these families $\mathrm{Gor}(T)$ and of $G_T$. Finally, we give examples of codimension three Gorenstein sequences, such as $(1,3,5,3,1)$, for which $G_T$ has several irreducible components, one being the Zariski closure of $\mathrm{Gor}(T)$., Comment: 62 pages, revised after referee comments, emphasis on clarity. The bark, fruits, and leaves have traditionally been used to manage a variety of health conditions, most especially diabetes. Unfortunately, there is a scarcity of data and publications on the toxicity and safety of this plant.Purpose: The current study was designed to assess the acute and chronic toxicity of a hydro-ethanolic extract of Sclerocarya birrea in albino rats.Materials and Methods: Sclerocarya birrea was extracted using an 80– 20% hydro-ethanolic solution. For the acute toxicity study, female Wistar albino rats were treated with hydro-ethanolic leaf extract at a dose of 5000 mg/kg body weight and followed-up for 14 days. In the chronic toxicity study, 40 healthy Wistar albino rats were divided in 4 groups. The three treatment groups were administered the leaf hydro-ethanolic extract orally at dosages of 30, 150, and 1000 mg/kg once day for 90 days and the fourth group was a control group. Body and organs weights, haematological, serum biochemical, and histopathological parameters were measured at the end of the experiment.Results: Single-dose oral administration of hydro-ethanolic leaf extract of Sclerocarya birrea at 5000 mg/kg produced no mortality indicating the LD50 is greater than 5000 mg/kg body weight. Following 90 days of administration of a hydro-ethanolic extract of Sclerocarya birrea leaves, there was no significant change in body and organs weights. Furthermore, biochemical, haematological and histopathological parameters did not vary significantly.Conclusion: This data indicates neither acute or chronic toxicity in rats and is consistent with the widespread and long-term usage of Sclerocarya birrea in African traditional medicine.Keywords: Sclerocarya birrea, acute toxicity, chronic toxicity, diabetes

Abstract

Codimension two Artinian algebras $A$ have the strong and weak Lefschetz properties provided the characteristic is zero or greater than the socle degree. It is open to what extent such results might extend to codimension three AG algebras - the most promising results so far have concerned the weak Lefschetz property for such algebras. We here show that every standard-graded codimension three Artinian Gorenstein algebra $A$ having low maximum value of the Hilbert function - at most six - has the strong Lefschetz property, provided that the characteristic is zero. When the characteristic is greater than the socle degree of $A$, we show that $A$ is almost strong Lefschetz. This quite modest result is nevertheless arguably the most encompassing so far concerning the strong Lefschetz property for graded codimension three AG algebras.

Abstract

La maladie hémorroïdaire est un état pathologique caractérisé par une dilatation de la veine recto-anale plexus. Une enquête ethnobotanique a révélé l’utilisation des écorces de tronc de Parkia biglobosa (Jacq.) sous forme de pommade ou décoction en lavement anal pour son traitement. L’objectif de cette étude était de caractériser l’extrait afin de formuler des suppositoires. Un screening phytochimique et une caractérisation physico-chimique suivi évaluation de l'activité antioxydante et antiinflammatoire de l’extrait ont été réalisés. Une formulation des suppositoires a été définie à partir d’une stratégie utilisant deux masses à suppositoire (Witerpsol H15 et Suppocire ASX2). Les suppositoires obtenus ont fait l’objet de contrôle qualité et d’évaluation de l’efficacité. L’extrait était de couleur marron avec une texture fine. Son taux d’humidité était à 4,67 et le pH de 7,17. Les suppositoires avaient une forme allongée, une texture et un aspect uniforme avec un temps moyen de ramollissement de 8,36min et un point de fusion moyen de 37,3°C. L’étude phytochimique a permis de mettre en évidence des flavonoïdes. L’évaluation de l’activité antioxydante a donné une concentration inhibitrice (IC50) de 9,35 µg/ml Par ABTS, un pourcentage d’inhibition de 54,34% par LPO et l’activité Antiinflammatoire par l’inhibition de la LOX avec une IC50 de 19,01 µg/ml. Les études réalisées offrent une alternative d’utilisation de l’extrait sous forme de suppositoires pour le traitement de l’inflammation de la maladie hémorroïdaire.

Abstract

Solid dispersion formation by Hot melt extrusion (HME) is a widely used formulation strategy to improve the solubility and bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs. Despite this, they are limited by various factors such as drug-excipient miscibility, poor stability, limited drug loading and extrudability of physical drug-excipient mixtures. In this work, polyethylene glycol 8000 (PEG 8000) was used as a plasticizer for the manufacture of ellagic acid solid dispersions (EASD) with high drug loading. Indeed, EA is a polyphenolic active compound with antimalarial and other promising therapeutic activities. However, its low solubility and low permeability limit its therapeutic use. Solid dispersions formation may overcome this challenge, but its high melting point negatively influences the extrudability of its binary physical mixtures with a high drug loading rate, hence the need to use a plasticizer. Thus, five formulations consisting of EA, Eudragit® EPO and PEG 8000 in the ratio of 15:75:10 (F1), 20:70:10 (F2), 25:65:10 (F3), 15:80:5 (F4) and 20:85:5 (F5) % w/w, respectively, have been extruded, four of which were successful. The extrudates were evaluated by X-ray powder diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy and in vitro dissolution tests. Based on the results of these tests, the F5 formulation was identified as the most promising. Indeed, after 15 min of dissolution test, the dissolution rate of ellagic acid from the formulations was 62.67±3.10%, 58.74±7.23 %, 88.75±3.02% and 83.47±4.40% respectively for formulation F1, F2, F4 and F5. Moreover, the results of the FTIR spectroscopy analyses showed stronger interactions between the different constituents in the F4 and 5 formulations compared to the F1 and 2 formulations. Extruded materials of the F5 formulation, characterized by solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) spectroscopy and subjected to stability studies, showed good physical stability for twelve months under real-time stability study conditions and for six months under accelerated conditions.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Houseflies (Musca domestica) are synanthropic insects that are vectors of a wide range of multidrug-resistant pathogens responsible for infectious diseases. The aim of this study was to detect and characterize multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae carried by houseflies in Bobo-Dioulasso. Materials and Methods: A total of 500 houseflies were captured in hospital and non-hospital environments in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. For bacteriological analysis, they were divided into 125 batches of five flies each. Multidrug-resistant bacteria isolated on MacConkey agar supplemented with 4 μg/mL cefotaxime were identified on the basis of biochemical characteristics. Antibiotic susceptibility profiles were determined using the agar diffusion method. blaCTX-M resistance genes and quinolone resistance genes (plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance) were detected by conventional polymerase chain reaction. Results: Among 115 bacterial strains obtained, 26 were extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing enterobacteria: Escherichia coli (15), Klebsiella pneumoniae (6), Enterobacter cloacae (4), and Morganella morganii (1). Carriers were statistically more important in hospitals (12/26, p = 0.03). No carbapenem-resistance strains were observed. We identified ESBL resistance genes (Cefotaximase Munich; CTX-M group 1) (25/26) and quinolone resistance genes (QnrS) (6/26). Conclusion: Houseflies in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso are vectors for the transmission of multidrug-resistant enterobacteria. There is a need to monitor the associated risks for public health.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyse rainfall variability and its impact on surface water in the Vranso catchment. To achieve this, the methodology consisted of collecting primary and secondary data. The primary data was acquired using a survey technique, while the secondary data was based on meteorological data (rainfall) and a literature review. Data processing was based on the standardised rainfall index (SPI), the Martonne aridity index and the standardised flow index. (SFI), and the frequency index (FI). The study shows that rainfall variability is significant over the period 1985-2014. This variability is reflected in alternating dry and wet periods. The study also shows that rainfall variability has an impact on flows in the Vranso catchment. Agricultural activities, gold panning and livestock farming contribute to the drying up of water bodies in the catchment. It would be useful for the regional authorities to tackle this problem by formulating conservation policies for these areas.

In this article, we present an approach which allows to take into account the effect of extreme values in the modeling of financial asset returns and in the valorisation of associeted options. Specifically, the marginal distribution of assets returns is modeled by a mixture of two gaussiens distributions. Moreover, we model the joint dependence structure of the returns using an extremal copula which is suitable for our financial data. Applications are made on the Atos and Dassault Systems actions of the CAC40 index. Abstract

La résistance des moustiques aux insecticides chimiques conventionnels demeure une préoccupation majeure pour les programmes de lutte anti-vectorielle. Les recherches s’orientent actuellement vers l’utilisation d’alternatives naturelles, les bio insecticides. L’activité insecticide de certaines plantes comme le Calotropis procera (Ait.) R.br (Apocynaceae) pourrait avoir un grand intérêt dans ce domaine. Dans cette étude, nous avons effectués un criblage des extraits de feuilles de C. procera (aqueux, hydro- éthanolique, méthanolique et éthanolique) par HPTLC, puis mesurer leur teneur en stérol, triterpène et en cardénolides. Nous avons étudié également l’activité larvicide des extraits aqueux et hydro- éthanolique contre le vecteur de la dengue Aedes aegypti selon la méthodologie décrite par l’OMS. Le profil chimique des différents extraits montre la présence de flavonoïdes, tanins, stérols et triterpènes, coumarines, alcaloïdes et cardénolides. La plus grande activité larvicide a été obtenue avec l’extrait hydro-éthanolique provenant de feuilles récoltées en saison sèche dans la localité de Kombissiri (partie Centre Sud du Burkina) avec une DL50 de (1,58 mg/ml ± 1,51 ; 1,66 mg/ml) Les résultats obtenus indiquent que l’extrait hydro-éthanolique de C. procera pourrait servir à la formulation d’un bio-insecticide écologique et peu coûteux pour lutter contre les larves d'Aedes aegypti.

Abstract

Dermatoses are essentially caused by infection or free radical aggression, immunoallergic disorders, or can be secondary to general diseases. Management of dermatoses by modern medicine is complex and costly, and the development of alternative treatments is urgent. Opilia amentacea Roxb. is a woody climber plant traditionally used in Burkina Faso for treatment of bad skin diseases. This study was carried out to evaluate the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of extracts of O. amentacea and to characterize potent fractions. The antimicrobial activity was determined using the disc diffusion and microdilution methods, while antioxidant activity was assessed using the 2,2′-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH), 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. The content of the plant extracts in polyphenols and flavonoids was also studied. The results revealed several secondary metabolites in the leaves, stems and root bark extracts of the plant, including sterols, triterpenes, and flavonoids and tannins, and a generally high total polyphenol and total flavonoid content. Dichloromethane fractions of leaves (FDFe) and stem barks (FDET) exhibited the best antioxidant activity and were the most active on Gram-positive bacilli. Hexane leaves (FHFe) and hexane root bark (FHER) fractions exhibited the best antifungal activity against Candida tropicalis. High correlation (R2 = 0.932) was found between the total flavonoid content of extracts and ferric-reducing antioxidant power. In view of these results, the present study describes O. amentacea as a potential source of antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant agents and justifies the traditional uses of the plant as an anti-dermatosis plant.

Abstract

Abstract Background Type 1 diabetes (T1D) in youth is becoming a public health problem in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Burkina Faso. However, little is known about the level of knowledge of these patients on T1D. This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of diabetes in adolescents and young adults about the disease, and identify the factors associated in Burkina Faso. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted from April to June 2020 among youth with T1D, aged 10 to 30 years, and regularly followed in the internal medicine department of Yalgado Ouedraogo University Hospital of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Data were collected using the French AJD (Aide aux Jeunes Diabétiques) validated diabetes knowledge and skills (DKS) questionnaire designed to test participants’ accuracy in knowledge about six different themes of T1D, as generalities of diabetes, hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, management of insulin treatment, and self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG). DKS level was determined by calculating the scores, and univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to explore factors influencing DKS scores. This level was classified as insufficient or low ≤ 25/50, regular 26–39/50, and adequate or good ≥ 40/50. Results Sixty-three participants with a mean age of 19.05 years and a sex ratio (W/M) of 1.17 were included in our study. The mean HbA1c level was 9.79%, and 43 (68.23%) patients had an insufficient DKS level. The mean global DKS score of correct answers was 23.63/50. The percentage of correct answers was respectively 50% for the item “generalities of diabetes”, 32.4% for the item “hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia”, 67.72% for the item “diet”, 37.34% for the item “management of insulin treatment” and 44.97% for the item “SMBG”. Abstract

Résumé : La crise sécuritaire impacte négativement le secteur de l’éducation. Malgré les fermetures de structures d’éducation et des menaces de mort, certains enseignants continuent d’aller à l’école. De ce fait, cette recherche s’est donnée pour objectif général de déterminer les facteurs d’ordre psychologique et pratique qui expliquent la résilience des professeurs des écoles dans le contexte de crise sécuritaire. Cette étude qui se veut qualitative, a concerné 13 professeurs des écoles et deux (2) chefs de circonscription d’éducation de Base de la commune de Pissila. Nos principaux résultats indiquent que la prise de conscience de l’impact des actes terroristes par les enseignants, l’adoption d’une philosophie de résistance, l’empathie pour les élèves et le soutien moral bénéficié constituent l’essentiel des facteurs de résilience d’ordre psychologique des enseignants. Mais aussi les prières, les précautions de protection, la mise en œuvre de l’éducation en situation d’urgence et la collaboration avec la communauté éducative sont des aspects pratiques que les enseignants développent pour soutenir leur résilience. La promotion de cette résilience recommande la mise en œuvre de mesures incitatives et le développement des actions de protection en faveur du secteur éducatif. Abstract

We let $A=R/I$ be a standard graded Artinian algebra quotient of $R={\sf k}[x,y]$, the polynomial ring in two variables over a field ${\sf k}$ by an ideal $I$, and let $n$ be its vector space dimension. The Jordan type $P_\ell$ of a linear form $\ell\in A_1$ is the partition of $n$ determining the Jordan block decomposition of the multiplication on $A$ by $\ell$ -- which is nilpotent. The first three authors previously determined which partitions of $n=\dim_{\sf k}A$ may occur as the Jordan type for some linear form $\ell$ on a graded complete intersection Artinian quotient $A=R/(f,g)$ of $R$, and they counted the number of such partitions for each complete intersection Hilbert function $T$ arXiv:1810.00716.\par We here consider the family $\mathrm{G}_T$ of graded Artinian quotients $A=R/I$ of $R={\sf k}[x,y]$, having arbitrary Hilbert function $H(A)=T$. The Jordan cell $\mathbb V(E_P)$ corresponding to a partition $P$ having diagonal lengths $T$ is comprised of all ideals $I$ in $R$ whose initial ideal is the monomial ideal $E_P$ determined by $P$. These cells give a decomposition of the variety $\mathrm{G}_T$ into affine spaces. We determine the generic number $\kappa(P)$ of generators for the ideals in each cell $\mathbb V(E_P)$, generalizing a result of arXiv:1810.00716. In particular, we determine those partitions for which $\kappa(P)=\kappa(T)$, the generic number of generators for an ideal defining an algebra $A$ in $\mathrm{G}_T$. We also count the number of partitions $P$ of diagonal lengths $T$ having a given $\kappa(P)$. Résumé : L’avènement du numérique a complétement modifié la relation entre interlocuteurs dans le discours interpersonnel. Si auparavant les interlocuteurs se voyaient et même se faisaient face dans la prise en charge du dire et du montrer, ceux-ci échangent désormais de façon virtuelle derrière les claviers des appareils numériques. Toute chose qui n’est pas sans conséquences sur l’objet du dire et sur le comment dire. Dans ces conditions, le discours des internautes sur certains forums du réseau social Facebook met en évidence une désarticulation entre l’objet du discours et sa mise en acte. Cet article a pour objectif de montrer que les discours des internautes sur le réseau social Facebook des discours manipulatoires fondés sur la transgression des lois du discours et la violence verbale. 42. Trends and variability of extreme climate indices in the Boucle du Mouhoun (Burkina Faso)

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to analyse the trends and variability of extreme weather indices in the Boucle du Mouhoun region of Burkina Faso. To this end, meteorological data for the period 1991 to 2021 were obtained from the National Meteorological Agency of Burkina Faso. These meteorological data (rainfall, temperature) were integrated into the Rclimdex software to generate extreme climate indices (rainfall, temperature). These data were then analysed by means of homogeneity tests (Pettitt and von Neumann ratio), trend tests (Mann-Kendall, Sen's slope) and the frequency of the return period of the extreme climate indices using XLSTAT (Statistical Software for Excel) 2023. The study shows that the precipitation indices are overall homogeneous (p-value ≥ 0.05) and that there is no significance (p-value ≥ 0.05) for the trend of the extreme precipitation indices from 1991 to 2021. Conversely, the temperature indices are not homogeneous (p-value ≤ 0.05), and a significant upward trend was observed for the maximum temperature index (p-value ≤ 0.05) and the minimum temperature index (p-value ≤ 0.05). The extreme climate indices also show considerable variability over the period 1991-2021. Moreover, the return periods for the occurrence of extreme climate indices are shorter, ranging from 0 to 10 years. It is therefore important that regional authorities in the area develop strategies to consolidate water infrastructures and provide financial support to producers, especially banana producers.

Abstract

La pratique de la dépigmentation volontaire est toujours d’actualité en Afrique avec plusieurs gammes de produits cosmétiques éclaircissants vendues dans nos marchés. Notre objectif était de rechercher puis doser les actifs dépigmentant réglementés et/ou interdits contenus dans les cosmétiques éclaircissants vendus à Ouagadougou. Des échantillons de produits cosmétiques éclaircissants ont été collectés au premier trimestre de l’année 2022 auprès des vendeurs de la ville de Ouagadougou. Une analyse par HPLC a ensuite été réalisée en vue de l’identification et du dosage de l’hydroquinone, du propionate de clobétasol et de l’acide kojique contenus dans ces échantillons. Vingt-neuf produits cosmétiques dépigmentant importés principalement de la Côte d’Ivoire et du Togo, ont été collectés et analysés. La présence d’hydroquinone était mentionnée sur l’étiquette de 13,79% des produits, alors que 51,72% en contenaient réellement. Aussi, la présence d’hydroquinone à des concentrations supérieures à la dose exonérée dans les produits cosmétiques (2,00%) n’était mentionnée dans aucun produit alors que 27,58% en contenaient à des concentrations élevées. Pour le propionate de clobétasol, sa présence était mentionnée dans 13,79% des produits, alors que 31,03% en contenaient réellement. Un échantillon avait une teneur en clobétasol supérieure à 0,05 % alors qu’aucun ne mentionnait une concentration supérieure à cette valeur. Enfin, alors que 24,13% des échantillons revendiquaient la présence d’acide kojique, seulement 17,24% en contenaient. Nous avons aussi constaté que 41,38% des échantillons contenaient des associations de deux des trois actifs dépigmentant recherchés avec une prédominance de l’association hydroquinone + propionate de clobétasol (27,38%). Ces résultats d’analyses montrent que les déclarations des fabricants sur les compositions en ingrédients actifs des produits cosmétiques éclaircissants sont parfois trompeuses. La recherche systématique de ces trois molécules dans les cosmétiques pourra aider à mieux protéger la santé des utilisateurs de ces produits.
