Abstract

Abstract The Canary current upwelling System (CCS) is one the most productive marine ecosystems. CMIP5 simulations under the RCP8.5 scenario for the end of the 21st century project a modest upwelling‐favorable wind decrease over the CCS southern outpost, that is, the southern senegalese upwelling center (SSUC). We explore the coastal‐scale physical manifestations of climate change in the SSUC through dynamical downscaling of projected changes from nine CMIP5 models selected for their realistic representation of present‐day thermohaline structure. We find that coastal upwelling reduction due to wind changes is projected to be aggravated by geostrophic/pressure adjustments related, in large part, to changes in upper ocean stratification. The reduction could reach 25% of present‐day upwelling rates. The intensity of the poleward boundary current offshore of the SSUC is projected to decrease. Together with upper ocean warming this opens vast possibilities of ecological evolutions with large impact on neighboring societies.

Abstract

A theoretical 3D study on the diffusion capacitance in a polycrystalline silicon solar cell under steady multispectral light and various incidence angles is carried out. The effect of grain size, grain boundary recombination velocity and illumination incidence angle on the diffusion capacitance is then presented and analyzed; the dark capacitance of the cell was also calculated. Finally, considering the junction of the solar cell as plane capacitor, the efficiency is evaluated. The effect of grain size, grain boundary recombination velocity and illumination incidence angle have been discussed, based on the open circuit and short circuit capacitance modes.

6. Analyse pédologique de la région des Niayes au Sénégal

Abstract

La region agro-ecologique des Niayes situee le long du littoral Nord entre Dakar et Saint – Louis constitue un environnement complexe tres fragile. Le present article a pour objectif principal l'evaluation de la fertilite des sols qui sont situes dans des depressions inter dunaires ou la nappe phreatique affleure de facon intermittente. L'analyse de la bibliographie nous a permis de distinguer quatre classes de sol suivant l'ampleur et la duree de l'engorgement par l'eau. Suite a cette classification des actions de terrain ont ete menees sur les sites cibles. Sur chaque site deux essais d'infiltration au cylindre ont ete effectues, une fosse pedologique creusee et des echantillons preleves sur les differents horizons jusqu'a la nappe pour analyses granulometriques et chimiques. L'analyse granulometrique a revele que les dunes qui sont essentiellement constituees de sables grossiers constituent la roche mere de ces sols. L'erosion eolienne des dunes combinee au ruissellement apportent regulierement des particules fines (argile et limons) dans les points bas des depressions inter dunaires. Ainsi les sols des Niayes presentent un horizon de surface de texture sablo-limoneux avec une permeabilite variable de 20 a 150 cm/h. Les resultats des analyses chimiques ont permis de decrire la matiere organique et le complexe absorbant des horizons superficiels des sols. Les sols des Niayes ont en commun la salinite de leurs horizons de surface. Bien qu'ils soient riches en humus ils necessitent des amendements azotes et phosphates. Ces sols subissent un engorgement temporaire et leur mise en valeur necessite une evacuation des eaux excedentaires. Journal des Sciences Pour l'Ingenieur Vol. 6, 2006: 47-55
