Posttraumatic spinal cord cysts are difficult to treat with medication and surgery. Gene- cell therapy is a promising area of treatment for such patients. However, optimal gene-cell construct for this therapy has not been developed. We investigated the therapeutic efficiency of human olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) transduced by adenoviral vector encoding the mature form of brain - derived neurotrophic factor (mBDNF) in spinal cord cysts. The adenoviral vectors Ad5/35-CAG-mBDNF and Ad5/35-CAG-Fluc were constructed. Spinal cysts were modeled in female Wistar rats. We selected animals at the early and the intermediate stages of recovery with scores to 13 according to the Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan (BBB) scale. The efficiency of therapy was evaluated by BBB tests. No cytotoxicity was detected using the Resazurin/AlamarBlue assay for both vectors at multiplicity of infection (MOIs) of 1, 5, and 25. There was an increase in the proliferation of cells treated with Ad5/35-CAG-mBDNF at MOIs of 5 and 25. The hind limb mobility after the transplantation of Ad5/35-CAG-mBDNF and Ad5/35-CAG-Fluc-transduced human OECs and non-transduced OECs had approximately the same tendency to improve. Cyst reduction was observed with the transplantation of all the samples. Although Ad5/35-CAG-mBDNF -transduced OECs had high BDNF expression levels in vitro, these cells lacked positive effect in vivo because they did not exhibit significant effect concerning functional test when comparing the groups that received the same numbers of OECs. The therapeutic efficiency of transduced OECs appears to be due to the cell component. The autological and tissue-specific human OECs are promising for the personalized cell therapy. It is extremely important to test new gene-cell constructs based on these cells for further clinical use.

Many members of the enterovirus family are considered as promising oncolytic agents; however, their systemic administration is largely inefficient due to the rapid neutralization of the virus in the circulation and the barrier functions of the endothelium. We aimed to evaluate natural killer cells as carriers for the delivery of oncolytic enteroviruses, which would combine the effects of cell immunotherapy with virotherapy. We tested four strains of nonpathogenic enteroviruses against the glioblastoma cell line panel and evaluated the produced infectious titers. Next, we explored whether these virus strains could be delivered to the tumor by natural killer cell line NK-92, which is being actively evaluated as a clinically acceptable therapeutic. Several strains of enteroviruses demonstrated oncolytic properties, but only coxsackievirus A7 (CVA7) could replicate in NK-92 cells efficiently. We compared the delivery efficiency of CVA7 in vivo, using NK-92 cells and direct intravenous administration, and found significant advantages of cell delivery even after a single injection. This suggests that the NK-92 cell line can be utilized as a vehicle for the delivery of the oncolytic strain of CVA7, which would improve the clinical potential of this viral oncolytic for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme and other forms of cancer., Graphical abstract, Natural killer cell line NK-92 is a safe and clinically approved therapeutic instrument. This study shows that NK-92 cells could be utilized as delivery carriers for oncolytic enterovirus coxsackie A7. In a recent research paper Dr. Suxing Jin et al. reported two multispecific PtIV complexes DNP and NP with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug naproxen (NPX) as the axial ligand(s). Herein, we clarify the mechanism of action of DNP, its therapeutic target and intracellular redox-status.

A series of 73 ligands and 73 of their Cu+2 and Cu+1 copper complexes with different geometries, oxidation states of the metal, and redox activities were synthesized and characterized. The aim of the study was to establish the structure-activity relationship within a series of analogues with different substituents at the N(3) position, which govern the redox potentials of the Cu+2/Cu+1 redox couples, ROS generation ability, and intracellular accumulation. Possible cytotoxicity mechanisms, such as DNA damage, DNA intercalation, telomerase inhibition, and apoptosis induction, have been investigated. ROS formation in MCF-7 cells and three-dimensional (3D) spheroids was proven using the Pt-nanoelectrode. Drug accumulation and ROS formation at 40-60 μm spheroid depths were found to be the key factors for the drug efficacy in the 3D tumor model, governed by the Cu+2/Cu+1 redox potential. A nontoxic in vivo single-dose evaluation for two binuclear mixed-valence Cu+1/Cu+2 redox-active coordination compounds, 72k and 61k, was conducted.

In experiments on rats, co-transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells of the human olfactory mucosa and neural stem/progenitor cells from the same source into post-traumatic cysts of the spinal cord led to improvement of the motor activity of the hind limbs and reduced the size of the cysts in some animals by 4-12%. The transplantation of a combination of the olfactory mucosa cells is effective and can be used in preclinical trials for the treatment of spinal cord injuries.

A gene-cell construct based on rat olfactory mucosa ensheathing cells transduced with an adenoviral vector encoding a mature form of brain neurotrophic factor (mBDNF) was transplanted into post-traumatic cysts of rat spinal cord. Transplantation of the gene-cell construct improved motor activity of the hind limbs and reduced the size of cysts in some animals. However, comparison of the effects of transduced and non-transduced ensheathing cells revealed no significant differences. In parallel in vitro experiments, a decrease in the proliferation of transduced cells compared to non-transduced cells was observed. It is likely that mBDNF reduces proliferation of transduced cells, which can affect their efficiency. The therapeutic efficacy of the new gene-cell construct is most likely provided by the cellular component.

Neurotrophin-3 enhances the effectiveness of human olfactory ensheathing cells in improving hind limb mobility in rats with post-traumatic cysts of the spinal cord. Transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells into spinal cord cysts reduced their size; neurotrophin-3 did not modulate this effect. Combined preparation of human olfactory ensheathing cells and neurotrophin- 3 can be used in neurosurgery for the treatment of patients with spinal cord injuries.

Introducing a new genetically encoded material containing a photoactivatable label as a model cargo protein, based on Myxococcus xanthus (Mx) encapsulin system stably expressed in human 293T cells. Encapsulin from Mx is known to be a protein-based container for a ferritin-like cargo in its shell which could be replaced with an exogenous cargo protein, resulting in a modified encapsulin system. We replaced Mx natural cargo with a foreign photoactivatable mCherry (PAmCherry) fluorescent protein and isolated encapsulins, containing PAmCherry, from 293T cells. Isolated Mx encapsulin shells containing photoactivatable label can be internalized by macrophages, wherein the PAmCherry fluorescent signal remains clearly visible. We believe that a genetically encoded nanocarrier system obtained in this study, can be used as a platform for controllable delivery of protein/peptide therapeutics in vitro.

We studied the efficiency of transplantation of neural stem/progenitor cells from human olfactory mucosa in chronic spinal cord injury. Neural stem/progenitor cells were obtained by a protocol modified by us and transplanted to rats with spinal post-traumatic cysts. It was shown that transplantation of neural stem/progenitor cells from human olfactory lining improved motor activity of hind limbs in the recipient rat with spinal post-traumatic cysts (according to BBB scale).

Magnetic nanoparticles are widely used in various fields of biomedicine. They can combine both therapy and diagnostics modalities thus opening many opportunities for their application. In our work, we have evaluated their ability to work as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imagining and drug delivery systems for photosensitizers. We have shown that after formation of human serum albumin retains ability to bind photosensitizers and they do not lose their optical properties. To obtain stable water solution suitable for long term storage we have additionally modified human serum albumin with polyethylene glycol. It was shown that such modification allows to increase overall stability over time.

Diketone DNA derivatives have been proposed to modify the guanidine group of Arg in proteins. The β-diketo group at the C2' atom of the sugar phosphate moiety has been introduced in DNA by acylation of oligonucleotide precursors, i.e., DNA fragments containing 2'-amino-2'-deoxyuridine, which have been synthesized by the chemical automatic synthesis. Water-soluble N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]-N′-ethylcarbodiimide (EDC) and 4,6-dioxoheptanoic acid have been used in the reaction. The ability of oligodeoxyribonucleotides containing the 2'-β-diketo group to react with guanidine, Nα-Boc-L-arginine, and Nα-Dns-L-arginine has been demonstrated. The introduction of this modification into one of the strands of the 15-base pair DNA duplex has been shown to lead to its destabilization. The conjugate formation of MutS and MutL proteins from the E. coli mismatch repair system with 17-base pair DNA duplexes containing the 2'-deoxy-2'-(4,6-dioxoheptylamido)uridine residue has been detected for the first time. To increase the selectivity of the DNA ligands containing the β-diketo group in the reaction with the Arg residues of proteins, we have proposed to treat the reaction mixture with hydroxylamine. This treatment leads to the cleavage of Schiff bases, which are formed with the involvement of lysine residues.

The study of growth and possible metastasis in animal models of tumors would benefit from reliable cell labels for noninvasive whole-organism imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging. Genetically encoded cell-tracking reporters have the advantage that they are contrast-selective for viable cells with intact protein expression machinery. Besides, these reporters do not suffer from dilution during cell division. Encapsulins, which are bacterial protein nanocompartments, can serve as genetically controlled labels for multimodal detection of cells. Such nanocompartments can host various guest molecules inside their lumen. These include, for example, fluorescent proteins or enzymes with ferroxidase activity leading to biomineralization of iron oxide inside the encapsulin nanoshell. The aim of this work was to implement heterologous expression of encapsulin systems from Quasibacillus thermotolerans using the fluorescent reporter protein mScarlet-I and ferroxidase IMEF in the human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HepG2. The successful expression of self-assembled encapsulin nanocompartments with functional cargo proteins was confirmed by fluorescence microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Also, coexpression of encapsulin nanoshells, ferroxidase cargo, and iron transporter led to an increase in T2-weighted contrast in magnetic resonance imaging of HepG2 cells. The results demonstrate that the encapsulin cargo system from Q. thermotolerans may be suitable for multimodal imaging of cancer cells and could contribute to further in vitro and in vivo studies.

We studied the effect of transplantation of ensheathing cells obtained from the olfactory mucosa of rats and humans on the size of posttraumatic spinal cord cysts. MRI examination showed that transplantation of these cells into experimental posttraumatic cysts of the spinal cord led to a significant decrease in cyst volume and even their complete disappearance in two animals receiving transplantation of rat or human cells. These findings attested to regenerative processes developing as a result of ensheathing cell transplantation. Further studies in this field will be aimed at elucidation of the mechanisms underlying spinal cord regeneration in the area of posttraumatic cysts after transplantation of ensheathing cells.

Synthesis, characterization (HRMS, NMR, EPR, XANES, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and electrochemistry), DNA and BSA binding and in vitro biological screening of two new ferrocene-incorporated thiohydantoin derivatives (5 and 6) and their copper coordination compounds are reported. The ferrocene-based thiohydantoin derivatives were prepared by copper-catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition reactions between alkynyl ferrocenes and 5-(Z)-3-(2-azidoethyl)-2-(methylthio)-5-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)-1H-imidazol-4H-one. Alkynyl ferrocenes necessary for these syntheses were prepared by new procedures. Intermolecular redox reactions between the ferrocene fragment and copper(+2) coordinated ions were studied by different methods to determine the mechanism and kinetic constants of redox processes. Ferrocene-containing imidazolones (5 and 6) and their copper complexes were also tested for their in vitro cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 and A-549 carcinoma cells, and also against the noncancerous cell line Hek-293. The results showed modest cytotoxicity against the subjected cancer cell line compared with cisplatin. The ability of the obtained compounds to cause DNA degradation and cell apoptosis was investigated, and the distribution of cytosol/pellets was studied by AAS.

Photo-induced cytotoxicity and antitumor activity of a series of dual function agents for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and fluorescent imaging based on bacteriochlorin photosensitizer conjugated with various naphthalimide fluorophores was studied in vitro using murine tumor cells of S37 sarcoma and in vivo on mice bearing murine S37 sarcoma. Upon irradiation at the absorption maximum of the photosensitizer, the activity of conjugates was as high as in the case of individual bacteriochlorin, while an additional excitation of the naphthalimide fragment led to an increase in the PDT efficacy due to resonance energy transfer from the fluorophore to photosensitizer. The fluorescence contrast and specific cytotoxic activity measurements indicate that the conjugate of bacteriochlorin with 3,4-dimethoxestyrene-substituted naphthalimide is the most promising agent for the application as theranostic in PDT.

The experimental post-traumatic spinal cord cysts were modeled. It has been shown that NT-3 enhances the effectiveness of the use of human olfactory ensheathing cells in the treatment of experimental spinal cord cysts.

We studied the possibility of using BSA-coated magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for magnetic resonance imaging diagnosis of C6 glioblastoma, 4T1 mammary adenocarcinoma, and RS-1 hepatic mucous carcinoma. In all three cases, magnetic nanoparticles accumulated in the tumor and its large vessels. Magnetic resonance imaging with contrast agent allows visualization of the tumor tissue and its vascularization.

Habits of listening, sharing and caring music undergo substantial shifts. For such goals, society is using music streaming services which have done a great job created absolutely new communication patterns between the musician and listener. The purpose of this paper is to examine the features of digital society and digital technologies influenced music consumption and promotion of music industry. The authors studied the specifics of digital streaming services in development of modern music industry, why consumers prefer definite streaming music platforms and how musicians can promote their work via these digital music-streaming platforms in highly competitive environment.

The pathological processes developing after spinal cord injuries often lead to formation of cysts. Existing surgical and medical methods are insufficient for treatment of post-traumatic spinal cord cysts. One of the emerging tools is cell therapy. Olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) are perspective cells for cell therapy. In this study, we demonstrated that human OEC transplantation is effective in experimental spinal cysts. For our experiments, we selected animals only at the intermediate stage of recovery with scores from 8 to 13 according to the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) scale. Cells were transplanted in different quantities (0.75 and 1.5 million) into the fully formed cysts and in the areas of injury without cysts. Improvement of limb mobility after human OEC transplantation into post-traumatic cysts was shown. In the group of rats with cysts, time-dependent increase in the BBB score was observed in subgroups treated with 0.75 and 1.5 million OECs with no statistically significant time-dependent dynamics of BBB values in the control group. When all three subgroups (control and two OEC doses) were compared, the Kruskal-Wallis test showed the presence of differences between subgroups after 1, 3, and 4 weeks of treatment with evidence of divergence increase. There was no statistically significant difference between the two doses of OEC treatment. The human OECs in the experiments without cysts were not effective. It was also shown that PKH26-labeled human OECs survive throughout the experiment and migrate to nearby areas of the cyst. Therefore, it was found that it is effective to transplant human OECs into fully formed cysts. In the future, autologous OECs can be used to personalize the treatment of patients with spinal cysts.

The study is devoted to the development of digital technologies in the forest industry, which potential in Russia is practically not measured and belongs to the state ownership at all. The work revealed that forests are exposed to fires, illegal logging, flooding, the spread of diseases, etc. every year, which requires state and regional structures to constantly monitor and control the state of the forest fund. The study conducted an analysis of indicators related to the state of the forest fund, which revealed that in recent years, the volumes of forests and wood have not changed, but there is an increasing tendency to destroy them. Based on the results of the analysis, it was suggested that in order to effectively account for, analyze, monitor and control the forest in the forest industry, it is necessary to apply digital technologies that will allow for the effective implementation of annual forestry supervision. At the end of the study, the stages of digital forest taxation related to the control of the number of tree stands were presented.

The defining trend of the Fourth Industrial Revolution taking place on the basis of Industry 4.0 is the digitalization of technological processes for creating new value in material production. The introduction of global trends of the Industry 4.0 concept into the practice of domestic enterprises, the importance of global trends for domestic industry require the search for new scientific approaches to research and systematize the manifestations of digitalization, take risks and dangers into account, and develop appropriate industrial policy measures. The study analyzes the main technologies and tools of the Industry 4.0 concept, the possibilities of its use for the progressive transformation of Russia industrial complex. The current trends and promising areas of innovative transformation of the industrial sector of the Russian economy are determined taking into account the identified specific features of Industry 4.0.

Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising technique for cancer treatment, however, low tissue permeability for irradiating light and insufficient photosensitizer (PS) accumulation in tumors limit its clinical potential. Nanoparticles are engineered to improve selective drug delivery to tumor sites, but its accumulation is highly variable between tumors and patients. Identifying PS accumulation peak in a personalized manner is crucial for therapeutic outcome. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) provide opportunity for tracking drug accumulation in dynamics using non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The purpose of the study was to evaluate MNP loaded with PS as a theranostic tool for treating cancer in mice xenograft colon cancer models. Methods: MNPs coated with human serum albumin (HSA) were loaded with bacteriochlorine a. MRI, atomic emission spectroscopy (AES) and fluorescent imaging were used to study MNP and drug accumulation rates and dynamics in CT26 tumors. Tumor growth curves were evaluated in animals that received PDT at different time points upon MNP systemic injection. Results: Peak MNP accumulation in tumors was detected by MRI 60 min post injection (pi) and the data were verified by AES and fluorescent imaging. Up to 17% of injected dose/g of tissue was delivered to malignant tissues 24 h after injection. Consistent with MRI predicted drug accumulation peak PDT performed 60 min after intravenous injection was more efficient in inhibiting tumor growth than treatment scheduled 30 min and 240 min pi. Conclusions: PS loading on HAS-coated MNPs is a perspective approach to increase drug delivery to tumor site. Tracking for MNP accumulation by MRI can be used to predict drug concentration peak in tumors and to adjust PDT time scheduling for improved antitumor response.

Olfactory ensheathing cells showed significant effects on the regeneration of the spinal cord in experimental models and in clinical trials. However, the use of these cells in the therapy of posttraumatic cysts of the spinal cord has not been studied. Cultures of human and rat olfactory mucosa were obtained according to the protocols developed by us. Passage 3-4 cultures are most enriched with olfactory ensheathing cells and are preferable for transplantation. We performed transplantation of 750,000 olfactory ensheathing cells into the region of modeled cysts. The therapeutic effect of human cells was more pronounced. The positive dynamics of recovery of motor activity in the hind limbs of rats can reflect regenerative processes in the spinal cord after transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells into the region of posttraumatic cysts.

We studied survival of rat ensheathing cells after transplantation into experimental posttraumatic cysts. These cells were prepared according to our original protocol, labeled with intravital membrane dye PKH26, and transplanted into posttraumatic cysts of the spinal cord. The presence of cysts was verified by magnetic resonance imaging. Olfactory ensheathing cells were detected in the spinal cord by the immunofluorescence method. It was shown that rat olfactory ensheathing cells survived in the spinal cord over 4 weeks and their migration was observed. High survival rate and the possibility of obtaining olfactory ensheathing cells from the olfactory mucosa of patients for creation of an autologous preparation allow considering them as very promising material for the treatment of patients with posttraumatic cysts of the spinal cord.

Hypothesis Hydrophobic bacteriochlorin based photosensitizer (PS) can be effectively immobilized on MNP covered by human serum albumin (HSA). PS loading into MNP protein shell allows solubilizing PS in water solution without altering its photodynamic activity. MNP@PS can serve as diagnostic tool for tracking PS delivery to tumor tissues by MRI. Experiments Immobilization on MNP-HSA-PEG was performed by adding PS solution in organic solvents with further purification. MNP@PS were characterized by DLS, HAADF STEM and AFM. Absorbance and fluorescence measurements were used to assess PS photophysical properties before and after immobilization. MNP@PS internalization into CT26 cells was investigated by confocal microscopy in vitro and MRI/IVIS were used for tracking MNP@PS delivery to tumors in vivo. Findings MNP@PS complexes were stable in water solution and retained PS photophysical activity. The length of side chain affected MNP@PS size, loading capacity and cell internalization. In vitro testing demonstrated MNP@PS delivery to cancer cells followed by photoinduced toxicity. In vivo studies confirmed that as-synthetized complexes can be used for MRI tracking over drug accumulation in tumors.

Toxicological research of novel nanomaterials is a major developmental step of their clinical approval. Since iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles have a great potential in cancer treatment and diagnostics, the investigation of their toxic properties is very topical. In this paper we synthesized bovine serum albumin-coated iron oxide nanoparticles with different sizes and their polyethylene glycol derivative. To prove high biocompatibility of obtained nanoparticles the number of in vitro toxicological tests on human fibroblasts and U251 glioblastoma cells was performed. It was shown that albumin nanoparticles' coating provides a stable and biocompatible shell and prevents cytotoxicity of magnetite core. On long exposure times (48 hours), cytotoxicity of iron oxide nanoparticles takes place due to free radical production, but this toxic effect may be neutralized by using polyethylene glycol modification.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful technique for tumor diagnostics. Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) are safe and biocompatible tools that can be used for further enhancing MR tumor contrasting. Although numerous IONPs have been proposed as MRI contrast agents, low delivery rates to tumor site limit its application. IONPs accumulation in malignancies depends on both IONPs characteristics and tumor properties. In the current paper, three differently shaped Pluronic F-127-modified IONPs (nanocubes, nanoclusters, and nanorods) were compared side by side in three murine tumor models (4T1 breast cancer, B16 melanoma, and CT26 colon cancer). Orthotopic B16 tumors demonstrated more efficient IONPs uptake than heterotopic implants. Magnetic nanocubes (MNCb) had the highest r2-relaxivity in vitro (300 mM−1·s−1) compared with magnetic nanoclusters (MNCl, 104 mM−1·s−1) and magnetic nanorods (MNRd, 51 mM−1·s−1). As measured by atomic emission spectroscopy, MNCb also demonstrated better delivery efficiency to tumors (3.79% ID) than MNCl (2.94% ID) and MNRd (1.21% ID). Nevertheless, MNCl overperformed its counterparts in tumor imaging, providing contrast enhancement in 96% of studied malignancies, whereas MNCb and MNRd were detected by MRI in 73% and 63% of tumors, respectively. Maximum MR contrasting efficiency for MNCb and MNCl was around 6-24 hours after systemic administration, whereas for MNRd maximum contrast enhancement was found within first 30 minutes upon treatment. Presumably, MNRd poor MRI performance was due to low r2-relaxivity and rapid clearance by lungs (17.3% ID) immediately after injection. MNCb and MNCl were mainly captured by the liver and spleen without significant accumulation in the lungs, kidneys, and heart. High biocompatibility and profound accumulation in tumor tissues make MNCb and MNCl the promising platforms for MRI-based tumor diagnostics and drug delivery.

In presented paper we have developed new system for cancer theranostics based on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) targeted magnetic nanoparticles. Conjugation of anti-VEGF antibodies with bovine serum albumin coated PEGylated magnetic nanoparticles allows for improved binding with murine breast adenocarcinoma 4T1 cell line and facilitates doxorubicin delivery to tumor cells. It was shown that intravenous injection of doxorubicin loaded VEGF targeted nanoparticles increases median survival rate of mice bearing 4T1 tumors up to 50%. On the other hand magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of 4T1 tumors 24 h after intravenous injection showed accumulation of nanoparticles in tumors, thus allowing simultaneous cancer therapy and diagnostics.

BSA-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles with different hydrodynamic diameters (36 +/- 4 and 85 +/- 10 nm) were synthesized, zeta potential and T2 relaxivity were determined, and their morphology was studied by transmission electron microscopy. Studies on rats with experimental glioma C6 showed that smaller nanoparticles more effectively accumulated in the tumor and circulated longer in brain vessels. Optimization of the hydrodynamic diameter improves the efficiency of MRT contrast agent.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are successfully used as contrast agents in magnetic-resonance imaging. They can be easily functionalized for drug delivery functions, demonstrating great potential for both imaging and therapeutic applications. Here we developed new pH-responsive theranostic core-shell-corona nanoparticles consisting of superparamagentic Fe3O4 core that displays high T2 relaxivity, bovine serum albumin (BSA) shell that binds anticancer drug, doxorubicin (Dox) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) corona that increases stability and biocompatibility. The nanoparticles were produced by adsorption of the BSA shell onto the Fe3O4 core followed by crosslinking of the protein layer and subsequent grafting of the PEG corona using monoamino-terminated PEG via carbodiimide chemistry. The hydrodynamic diameter, zeta-potential, composition and T2 relaxivity of the resulting nanoparticles were characterized using transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, thermogravimetric analysis and T2-relaxometry. Nanoparticles were shown to absorb Dox molecules, possibly through a combination of electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions. The loading capacity (LC) of the nanoparticles was 8 wt.%. The Dox loaded nanoparticles release the drug at a higher rate at pH 5.5 compared to pH 7.4 and display similar cytotoxicity against C6 and HEK293 cells as the free Dox. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V.
