Abstract

Because of their conveniently tunable optoelectronic properties, semiconductor nanocrystals have become established components for new devices and emergent technologies, in a broad range of applications which include agriculture, medicine, energy harvesting and quantum information. In this work we study the dielectric and quantum confinement effects on excitons confined in single axially symmetric quantum dots, and systematically calculate by means of the configuration interaction method the corresponding Coulomb correlations in the cases of CdSe, CdTe and ZnTe nanocrystals. % to quantify the effects on the system energy due to the Coulomb interaction. We show that effects from the dielectric confinement, although one order of magnitude bigger than those from the quantum confinement, are negligible in the exciton energies because of mutual cancellation of the electron and hole contributions. Regarding the electrostatic interaction, we found for all analyzed cases that the exciton binding energy is below 2\% of the non-interacting electron-hole pair energy. Furthermore, our calculations reveal that the in general the first-order-perturbation correction accounts for 70 \% to 90 \% of the binding energy. These results provide useful information on the magnitude of the confinement effects in II-VI semiconductor nanocrystals, suggesting that a simple perturbative approach may be accurate enough for including the electrostatic interaction in most cases.

Abstract

We propose that a tree-like hierarchical structure represents a simple and effective way to model the emergent behaviour of financial markets, especially markets where there exists a pronounced intersection between social media influences and investor behaviour. To explore this hypothesis, we introduce an agent-based model of financial markets, where trading agents are embedded in a hierarchical network of communities, and communities influence the strategies and opinions of traders. Abstract

En este artículo se estudia el efecto que produce el sistema de suspensión sobre la estabilidad al vuelco y la capacidad de direccionamiento en un robot móvil Skid Steer, cuando este se enfrenta a distintas discontinuidades del terreno: descenso (frontal y lateral) y ascenso sobre escalones, además del desplazamiento sobre zanjas. Específicamente, se estudió el instante cuando se generan cargas de impacto producto del movimiento del robot sobre la irregularidad del terreno. En cada caso se hizo un análisis correlacional del efecto sobre la estabilidad al vuelco y el direccionamiento (cuantificadas con métricas fundamentadas en las fuerzas de reacción de las ruedas con el suelo), al variar cuatro parámetros que definen el sistema de suspensión: constante de rigidez en los resortes, constante de amortiguamiento en los amortiguadores y las constantes de rigidez y amortiguamiento en las ruedas. Por último se estimó para cada caso, qué magnitudes deberían adquirir estos parámetros para garantizar una mejor estabilidad y direccionamiento del robot.

Abstract

Understanding the physics of electromagnetic pulse emission and nozzle damage is critical for the long-term operation of laser experiments with gas targets, particularly at facilities looking to produce stable sources of radiation at high repetition rate. We present a theoretical model of plasma formation and electrostatic charging when high-power lasers are focused inside gases. The model can be used to estimate the amplitude of gigahertz electromagnetic pulses (EMPs) produced by the laser and the extent of damage to the gas jet nozzle. Looking at a range of laser and target properties relevant to existing high-power laser systems, we find that EMP fields of tens to hundreds of kV/m can be generated several metres from the gas jet. Model predictions are compared with measurements of EMP, plasma formation and nozzle damage from two experiments on the VEGA-3 laser and one experiment on the Vulcan Petawatt laser., Comment: 18 pages (total), 12 figures, 3 tables

5. Dimensional curvature identities in Fedosov geometry

Abstract

The curvature tensor of a symplectic connection, as well as its covariant derivatives, satisfy certain identities that hold on any manifold of dimension less than or equal to a fixed n. In this paper, we prove certain results regarding these curvature identities. Our main result describes, for any fixed dimension and any even number p of indices, the first space (provided we have filtered the identities by a homogeneity condition) of p-covariant curvature identities. To this end, we use recent results on the theory of natural operations on Fedosov manifolds. These results allow us to apply the invariant theory of the symplectic group, with a method that is analogous to that used in Riemannian or Kahler geometry., Comment: Accepted for publication in Journal of Geometry and Physics

7. University Teacher Credibility as a Strategy to Motivate Students

Abstract

University students' motivation can be affected by several factors, one being their perceptions of teacher behaviour in the classroom. This study aimed to predict university students' state motivation from their perceptions of teacher credibility. The participants were 344 students from the University of Seville. A structural equation model was used with the partial least squares method (PLS-SEM), a technique based on variance, employed to test, and validate the proposed hypotheses. The results reveal, on the one hand, a positive effect of teacher credibility on state motivation and, on the other hand, that teacher credibility has predictive power and predictive relevance for state motivation. Likewise, there is evidence of predictive validity in that teacher credibility can predict values for new cases of state motivation. Strategies are provided for a university faculty to manage their behaviour in the classroom to increase their students' state motivation, highlighting the use of PLS-SEM as a data analysis tool suitable for application in higher education.

8. Charge transport battery with quantum feedback

Abstract

A battery is a work storage device, i.e. a device that stores energy in the form of work for later use by other devices. In this work, we study the realization of a quantum battery in a double quantum dot in series, charged by two electrodes at different chemical potentials and optimized by a Markovian quantum feedback protocol. Using the concept of ergotropy as a figure of merit, we first establish a simple expression for the maximum ergotropy in a two-level system, and then find the parameters under which a Markovian feedback can achieve this optimal ergotropy. We also study the influence of interaction with a phonon environment on the charging and discharging process of the battery.

Abstract

Ion acceleration from gaseous targets driven by relativistic-intensity lasers was demonstrated as early as the late 90s, yet most of the experiments conducted to date have involved picosecond-duration, Nd:glass lasers operating at low repetition rate. Here, we present measurements on the interaction of ultraintense ($\sim 10^{20}\,\rm W\,cm^{-2}$, 1 PW), ultrashort ($\sim 70\,\rm fs$) Ti:Sa laser pulses with near-critical ($\sim 10^{20}\,\rm cm^{-3}$) helium gas jets, a debris-free targetry compatible with high ($\sim 1\,\rm Hz$) repetition rate operation. We provide evidence of $\alpha$ particles being forward accelerated up to $\sim 2.7\,\rm MeV$ energy with a total flux of $\sim 10^{11}\,\rm sr^{-1}$ as integrated over $>0.1 \,\rm MeV$ energies and detected within a $0.5\,\rm mrad$ solid angle. We also report on on-axis emission of relativistic electrons with an exponentially decaying spectrum characterized by a $\sim 10\,\rm MeV$ slope, i.e., five times larger than the standard ponderomotive scaling. The total charge of these electrons with energy above 2 MeV is estimated to be of $\sim 1 \,\rm nC$, corresponding to $\sim 0.1\,\%$ of the laser drive energy. In addition, we observe the formation of a plasma channel, extending longitudinally across the gas density maximum and expanding radially with time. These results are well captured by large-scale particle-in-cell simulations, which reveal that the detected fast ions most likely originate from reflection off the rapidly expanding channel walls. The latter process is predicted to yield ion energies in the MeV range, which compare well with the measurements. Finally, direct laser acceleration is shown to be the dominant mechanism behind the observed electron energization.

Abstract

In the upcoming decade, deep learning may revolutionize the natural sciences, enhancing our capacity to model and predict natural occurrences. This could herald a new era of scientific exploration, bringing significant advancements across sectors from drug development to renewable energy. To answer this call, we present DeepSpeed4Science initiative (deepspeed4science.ai) which aims to build unique capabilities through AI system technology innovations to help domain experts to unlock today's biggest science mysteries. By leveraging DeepSpeed's current technology pillars (training, inference and compression) as base technology enablers, DeepSpeed4Science will create a new set of AI system technologies tailored for accelerating scientific discoveries by addressing their unique complexity beyond the common technical approaches used for accelerating generic large language models (LLMs). In this paper, we showcase the early progress we made with DeepSpeed4Science in addressing two of the critical system challenges in structural biology research.

Abstract

PurposeWe evaluated the impact of partial volume correction (PVC) methods on the quantification of longitudinal [18F]GTP1 tau positron-emission tomography (PET) in Alzheimer's disease and the suitability of describing the tau pathology burden temporal trajectories using linear mixed-effects models (LMEM).MethodsWe applied van Cittert iterative deconvolution (VC), 2-compartment, and 3-compartment, and the geometric transfer matrix plus region-based voxelwise methods to data acquired in an Alzheimer's disease natural history study over 18 months at a single imaging site. We determined the optimal PVC method by comparing the standardized uptake value ratio change (%ΔSUVR) between diagnostic and tau burden-level groups and the longitudinal repeatability derived from the LMEM. The performance of LMEM analysis for calculating %ΔSUVR was evaluated in a natural history study and in a multisite clinical trial of semorinemab in prodromal to mild Alzheimer's disease by comparing results to traditional per-visit estimates.ResultsThe VC, 2-compartment, and 3-compartment PVC methods had similar performance, whereas region-based voxelwise overcorrected regions with a higher tau burden. The lowest within-subject variability and acceptable group separation scores were observed without PVC. The LMEM-derived %ΔSUVR values were similar to the per-visit estimates with lower variability.ConclusionThe results indicate that the tested PVC methods do not offer a clear advantage or improvement over non-PVC images for the quantification of longitudinal [18F]GTP1 PET data. LMEM offers a robust framework for the longitudinal tau PET quantification with low longitudinal test-retest variability.Clinical trial registrationNCT02640092 and NCT03289143.

Abstract

Summary: Background: Surgical care holds significant importance in healthcare, especially in low and middle-income countries, as at least 50% of the 4.2 million deaths within the initial 30 days following surgery take place in these countries. The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery proposed six indicators to enhance surgical care. In Colombia, studies have been made using secondary data. However, strategies to reduce perioperative mortality have not been implemented. This study aims to describe the fourth indicator, perioperative mortality rate (POMR), with primary data in Colombia. Methods: A multicentre prospective cohort study was conducted across 54 centres (hospitals) in Colombia. Each centre selected a 7-day recruitment period between 05/2022 and 01/2023. Inclusion criteria involved patients over 18 years of age undergoing surgical procedures in operating rooms. Data quality was ensured through a verification guideline and statistical analysis using mixed-effects multilevel modelling with a case mix analysis of mortality by procedure-related, patient-related, and hospital-related conditions. Findings: 3807 patients were included with a median age of 48 (IQR 32–64), 80.3% were classified as ASA I or II, and 27% of the procedures had a low-surgical complexity. Leading procedures were Orthopedics (19.2%) and Gynaecology/Obstetrics (17.7%). According to the Clavien–Dindo scale, postoperative complications were distributed in major complications (11.7%, 10.68–12.76) and any complication (31.6%, 30.09–33.07). POMR stood at 1.9% (1.48–2.37), with elective and emergency surgery mortalities at 0.7% (0.40–1.23) and 3% (2.3–3.89) respectively. Interpretation: The POMR was higher than the ratio reported in previous national studies, even when patients had a low–risk profile and low-complexity procedures. The present research represents significant public health progress with valuable insights for national decision-makers to improve the quality of surgical care. Una cama. Mil y una vidas es una performace que tiene como objetivo reflexionar sobre la realidad social y emocional que atraviesan tanto la población de trabajadoras sexuales transgénero del sector de Barbacoas en Medellín como sus clientes asiduos al vivir mediados y divididos por diferentes identidades. De esta manera se busca, por un lado, invitar a la reflexión en torno a los prejuicios arcaicos que aún se ejercen en la cultura antioqueña alrededor de la disidencia sexual y, por el otro, cuestionar las dinámicas que cosifican al disidente sexual como un mero objeto de consumo. Atravesado entonces por un quehacer metodológico interdisciplinar que abarca desde la etnografía hasta el arte relacional, la intervención logra representar simbólicamente mil vidas en una sola acción acompañada de soportes sensibles emplazados en el sector como constituyentes representativos de los cuerpos otros, los cuerpos que importan.

Abstract

El siguiente artículo presenta una exploración en torno a un dispositivo visual narrativo fundamental para reconstruir el pasado y construir la identidad/memoria de un grupo social determinado, por tanto, de una cultura particular: los álbumes familiares. El énfasis recaerá en dos propósitos complementarios. Por un lado, reconstruiremos la discusión sobre su especificidad, ante todo, su dimensión material. Así, la intención fundamental estará dirigida en discutir un aspecto que suele ser omitido en las investigaciones históricas: los álbumes deben considerarse tanto como objetos incrustados en prácticas sociales que producen diversos efectos, como también con cualidades específicas: tamaños, colores, patrones, texturas. Por otro lado, consideraremos que los álbumes familiares nunca son solamente memorias particulares, antes bien, en ellas es posible vislumbrar, tanto posibles pasados, como también encontrar variadas preguntas sobre cómo conservar las memorias de la vida cotidiana y las diferencias existentes entre los recuerdos del espacio público y del espacio privado.

19. AGN and Star Formation feedback in the evolution of galaxy outflows

Abstract

We conducted 3D-MHD simulations to investigate the feedback processes in the central 1kpc scale of galaxies hosting both active star formation (SF) and an AGN wind. Our simulations naturally generated a turbulent and clumpy interstellar medium driven by SF evolution. We found that the AGN wind duty cycle plays a crucial role in shaping the evolution of the outflows. This cycle consists of an active, a remnant and an inactive phase, lasting up to 1.5 Myr. The duration of the cycle increases with larger star formation rate (SFR) and smaller AGN wind power (tested for luminosities log L = 42-44 ergs per second and SFR=1-1000 solar masses per year. The feedback on SF, whether positive or negative, depends on various factors, including the AGN outflow opening angle, power, and phase of activity, as well as the initial SFR. The passage of the AGN wind enhances SF in a ring around it, resembling the structures observed in ULIRGs, and is stronger for larger AGN power or SFR. Also, a higher SFR enhances the mixing of interstellar matter with the AGN wind, resulting in a greater number of colder, denser structures with volume filling factors ~ 0.02 to 0.12 and velocities comparable to those observed in Seyferts and LINERs, but smaller than those observed in ULIRGs. The efficiency of the AGN wind in transporting mass to kiloparsec distances diminishes with increasing SFR. The mass loss rates range from 50 to 250 solar masses per year within the initial 2 Myr of evolution, which aligns with observed rates in nearby Seyferts and ULIRGs.

20. Reducing Rydberg state dc polarizability by microwave dressing

Abstract

We demonstrate reduction of the dc polarizability of Cesium atom Rydberg states in a 77 K environment utilizing microwave field dressing. In particular we reduce the polarizability of $52P_{3/2}$ states which have resonances at 5.35 GHz to $51D_{5/2}$, suitable for interfacing Rydberg atoms to superconducting resonators in a cryogenic environment. We measure the polarizability of the Rydberg states using Magneto-Optical-Trap (MOT) loss spectroscopy. Using an off-resonant radio-frequency (RF) dressing field coupling $52P_{3/2}$ and $51D_{5/2}$ we demonstrate a reduction in dc polarizability of the $ 52P_{3/2}$ states over 80$\%$. Experimental findings are in good agreement with a numerical model of the atom-dressing field system developed using the Shirley-Floquet formalism. We also demonstrate that the dc polarizability reduction is highly anisotropic, with near total nulling possible when the dc and dressing fields are aligned, but only a factor of two reduction in polarizability when the fields are orthogonal. Abstract

The advancement of quantum computation is eager on generating fault tolerant qubits, and topological superconductivity is a very promising concept for reaching this goal. Early experimental achievements study hybrid systems as well as doped intrinsic topological or superconducting materials presenting the phenomena at very low temperatures. However, higher critical temperatures are indispensable for technological exploitation. Promising very recent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy results reveal that superconductivity of the type-I Weyl semimetal trigonal PtBi$_2$ (t-PtBi$_2$) is located at the Fermi arcs surface states which renders t-PtBi$_2$ a candidate for intrinsic topological superconductivity. Here we show, using scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS) that t-PtBi$_2$ presents surface superconductivity at elevated temperatures (5 K). The gap magnitude is elusive: it is spatially inhomogeneous and spans from 0 to 20 meV. In particular, the large gap value and the shape of the quasiparticle excitation spectrum resemble the phenomenology of high-Tc superconductors. To our knowledge, this is the largest superconducting gap so far measured in a topological material. Moreover, we show that the superconducting state at 5 K persists up to 12 T magnetic field. Thus, we show that t-PtBi2 is a prime candidate for intrinsic topological superconductivity at technologically relevant temperatures, fields and gap magnitudes., Comment: Revised Version

Abstract

With an increasing number of new scientific papers being released, it becomes harder for researchers to be aware of recent articles in their field of study. Accurately classifying papers is a first step in the direction of personalized catering and easy access to research of interest. The field of Density Functional Theory (DFT) in particular is a good example of a methodology used in very different studies, and interconnected disciplines, which has a very strong community publishing many research articles. We devise a new unsupervised method for classifying publications, based on topic modeling, and use a DFT-related selection of documents as a use case. We first create topics from word analysis and clustering of the abstracts from the publications, then attribute each publication/paper to a topic based on word similarity. We then make interesting observations by analyzing connections between the topics and publishers, journals, country or year of publication. The proposed approach is general, and can be applied to analyze publication and citation trends in other areas of study, beyond the field of Density Function Theory.

Abstract

Exploring non-coding regions is increasingly gaining importance in the diagnosis of inherited retinal dystrophies. Deep-intronic variants causing aberrant splicing have been identified, prompting the development of antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) to modulate splicing. We performed a screening of five previously described USH2A deep-intronic variants among USH2A monoallelic patients with Usher syndrome (USH) or isolated retinitis pigmentosa. Sequencing of entire USH2A or USH genes was then conducted in unresolved or newly monoallelic cases. The splicing impact of identified variants was assessed using minigene assays, and ASOs were designed to correct splicing. The screening allowed to diagnose 30.95% of the studied patients. The sequencing of USH genes revealed 16 new variants predicted to affect splicing, with four confirmed to affect splicing through minigene assays. Two of them were unreported deep-intronic variants and predicted to include a pseudoexon in the pre-mRNA, and the other two could alter a regulatory cis-element. ASOs designed for three USH2A deep-intronic variants successfully redirected splicing in vitro. Our study demonstrates the improvement in genetic characterization of IRDs when analyzing non-coding regions, highlighting that deep-intronic variants significantly contribute to USH2A pathogenicity. Furthermore, successful splicing modulation through ASOs highlights their therapeutic potential for patients carrying deep-intronic variants.

Abstract

Se presentan los resultados de una investigación desarrollada en la Unidad Educativa "Prócer José Cuero y Caicedo", con niños de segundo año de EGB, con el objetivo de elaborar una estrategia metodológica para el aprendizaje de la numeración sustentada en la utilización de herramientas digitales, a partir de la identificación de insuficiencias en este sentido motivadas fundamentalmente por el predominio de métodos de enseñanza tradicional dada la insuficiente preparación de los docentes para incorporar de manera sistemática el uso de herramientas digitales en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se utilizaron métodos teóricos (análisis y síntesis, inducción-deducción, modelación y enfoque de sistema), empíricos (revisión documental, observación, entrevista y prueba pedagógica) y matemáticos (estadística descriptiva e inferencial). La efectividad de la estrategia metodológica elaborada para dar solución al problema formulado se corroboró a través de su aplicación parcial mediante la investigación acción y un taller de socialización con especialistas, quienes reconocieron su valor y realizaron sugerencias para su perfeccionamiento. Los resultados obtenidos, aunque parciales, permitieron constatar avances en el aprendizaje de la numeración y se corresponden con los hallazgos de investigaciones precedentes sobre la efectividad de las herramientas digitales para el aprendizaje de la Matemática

Abstract

Geological evidence accumulated over time reveals climatic variations on planet Earth. However, the current concern lies in acceleration of these changes, caused by industrial and service activities in society. This acceleration contributes to increase in magnitude and duration the effects of climate change, significantly affecting all forms of life on the planet. In this context, an analysis of carbon footprint was conducted in an environmental consulting company located in Bucaramanga, Colombia. The goal was to quantify the company’s contribution to climate change, specifically global warming, through the emission of greenhouse gases. To do this, a close life cycle assessment approach was adopted, using the current emission factor in Colombia. Through the characterization of the company’s operational and administrative processes, an indirect emission of 1.39 tons of CO2 eq per month was determined, which extrapolated to an annual emission of 16.68 tons of CO2 eq. The laboratory process was identified as the main generator of CO2 eq, contributing 86% of the total. With the carbon footprint calculated, a detailed analysis of compensation strategies, environmental education and technological updating was conducted. These strategies were designed with the objective of optimizing electrical energy consumption and, consequently, mitigating the environmental impacts derived from CO2 emissions. The implementation of these measures seeks not only to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, but also to promote more sustainable and conscious practices in the business and social spheres.

Abstract

We present a parametric study based on 1-D particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations conducted with the objective of understanding the interaction of intense lasers with near-critical non-uniform density gas targets. Specifically, we aim to find an optimal set of experimental parameters regarding the interaction of a $\lambda_L$ = 0.8 $\mu$m, $I_L =10^{20}$ W/cm$^2$ ($a_0 = 8.8$), $\tau_L = 30$ fs laser pulse with a near-critical non-uniform pure nitrogen gas profile produced by a non commercial gas nozzle. The PIC code Calder developed at CEA was used, and both the maximum electron density and the direct laser contribution to ion acceleration were studied. Shock formation was achieved for a peak electron density $n_e$ ranging between 0.35 $n_c$ and 0.7 $n_c$. In this density interval, the survival of a percentage of the laser pulse until the gas density peak, while being strongly absorbed ($>$90$\%$) and creating a hot electron population in the gas up-ramp, is singled out as a necessary condition for shock formation. Moreover, the laser absorption must give rise to a super ponderomotive heating of the target electrons in order to launch an electrostatic shock inside the plasma. The direct laser effect on ion acceleration consists in a strong initial density perturbation that enhances charge separation while the electron pressure gradients are identified as fundamental for shock formation. The production of a controlled and repetitive gas profile as well as the possibility of performing measurements with statistical meaning are highlighted as fundamental for conducting a thorough experimental study., Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures

El artículo se orienta a profundizar sobre el lugar de las mujeres vinculadas a iniciativas de agricultura urbana comunitaria y a reconocer sus prácticas de resistencia colectiva en siete iniciativas ubicadas en el noroccidente de la ciudad de Bogotá, Colombia, a partir de una metodología cualitativa, con un estudio de caso múltiple y resaltando la importancia de un análisis interseccional en las experiencias de las participantes. Se encuentra que, junto con una apuesta por la soberanía alimentaria, se persigue la transformación de las formas de relacionamiento con la naturaleza y la vida ampliada, así como la resignificación y apropiación del espacio público. Se concluye que las mujeres juegan un relevante rol en la autogestión comunitaria con un alto reconocimiento de sus saberes y quehaceres; las redes de afectividad y el intercambio intergeneracional fortalecen la autonomía y liderazgo femenino, que se irradia a otros escenarios de participación sociopolítica. Todo lo anterior las convierte en apuestas contrahegemónicas y de resistencia al modelo capitalista y androcéntrico.

Abstract

El síndrome de burnout es el reconocimiento de un estrés crónico; sin embargo, y basado en el marco de la Ley 1788 de 2016 y Ley 1595 de 2012 de Colombia, que asegura la promoción y la protección de los derechos de los trabajadores domésticos, ahora bien, en el cumplimiento de sus labores diarias están expuestos a factores de riesgos, que ocasiona la presencia de estrés, fatiga, agotamiento emocional, entre otras patologías, por lo anterior, el presente estudio tiene como objetivo conocer la presencia del Síndrome de Burnout en trabajadores domésticos de Colombia. Se apropia la metodología cuantitativa de tipo descriptiva con la aplicación del instrumento Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) conformado por 22 ítems con una escala Likert y con una alta consistencia interna y una fiabilidad cercana al 0,9. Aplicado a 401 empleados domésticos o trabajadores. El instrumento permite reconocer que la valoración frente a la escala de realización personal tiene indicios bajos de Síndrome de Burnout, pero con relación a cansancio emocional y despersonalización la condición es medio, con posibilidades altas de presencia de síndrome. La presencia del Síndrome de Burnout se encuentra en una escala media y con alta posibilidad de presencia en el tiempo, por ello, se debe orientar, brindar y acompañar al trabajador doméstico para la prevención del mismo.

50. Integration and evaluation of the high-precision MotionCam-3D into a 3D thermography system

Abstract

Infrared thermal imaging enables fast, accurate and non-contact measurement of temperature distributions. However, 2D representations of 3D objects often require several images to provide significant information. For such cases, 3D thermograms allow a quick temporal and spatial analysis. In this paper, the integration of an industrial high-precision 3D sensor into a 3D thermography system is presented. The performances of the existing and new systems are assessed and compared by analyzing 3D thermograms of an industry-related test object. The geometry of the obtained point cloud is evaluated by means of a non-referenced point cloud quality assessment approach. It is shown that, in the presence of the spatial resolution and the local curvature, the proposed system performs significantly better than the existing one.
