Incisional wound closure is a key surgical step to facilitate tissue healing, reduce the risk of infection and obtain esthetic and functional recovery. Cyanoacrylates such as Histoacryl® have become a popular choice in surgical veterinary practice. However, how Histoacryl® is affecting tissue regeneration and bacterial load in the wound in comparison to poliglecaprone (Monocryl®) traditional suture methods remains to be determined. This work aimed to evaluate how wounded tissue responds to traditional suture with Monocryl® (poliglecaprone 25/4-0) and Histoacryl®, as well as provide evidence of their effects on wound healing in mice. Fortyeight hours after the incisional procedure, wound tissue biopsies were prepared for histological and microbiological analysis. Biopsies were fixed and colored with Mallory's trichrome and hematoxylin-eosin stains. For microbiological assays, biopsies were suspended in tryptic soy broth (TSB) and 1/10 diluted to evaluate the number of CFU in nutrient agar plates. Our results show no differences between Histoacryl® and Monocryl® traditional suture suggesting that both methods could be used to treat wounds in small animals such as rodents.

The UNESCO Global Geoparks are grounded in three core principles: education, geoconservation, and geotourism. Since 2015, the Napo Sumaco Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark (NSAUGG) in the Ecuadorian Amazon has concentrated its efforts on enhancing local capabilities through Earth Sciences education, underscoring the safeguarding of natural and cultural heritage and environmental stewardship. A comprehensive educational dissemination model was implemented, incorporating both indoor and outdoor activities, geoscience education training, geodiversity knowledge enhancement, and the creation of content and workshops that integrate classroom and field-based learning and evaluation. The concepts of geodiversity and geoparks were disseminated to adults and youth, primarily members of the native peoples' communities, particularly those employed at the community tourism centers and the geopark guides designated as “Yuyaiwa Pushak Runakuna.” A total of 60 individuals from the NSAUGG populations between Tena and Archidona cantons participated in the educational activities, which involved 19 geoeducators. These initiatives facilitated an appreciation of the geopark's diverse heritages, including its geological, biological, and cultural assets. The geoeducation efforts fostered geotourism, with the Yuyaiwa Pushak Runakuna acquiring greater value through their assimilation of geological and speleological knowledge. This is evident in their use of geological vocabulary and understanding of geological processes and materials in guiding activities for both national and foreign tourists. The most significant achievement is the establishment of “Geoeducation for Sustainability” actions, which promotes collective life through knowledge dialogues based on Minka (voluntary community work) and Turkana (reciprocity and barter). These actions encouraged a deeper connection to the geopark's heritage and strengthened community cohesion.

La salud bucodental es esencial para el bienestar general y el rendimiento deportivo, pero a menudo es descuidada por los atletas. Esta revisión tiene como objetivo identificar la relación entre el estado de salud bucodental y el rendimiento deportivo de los atletas. Se realizó una búsqueda exhaustiva de literatura publicada entre 2019 y 2023 en bases de datos como Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science y SciELO, utilizando descriptores clave relacionados con el rendimiento atlético y la salud bucal. Los resultados revelan que los traumatismos bucodentales más frecuentes en deportistas incluyen fracturas dentales, luxaciones, avulsiones y lesiones de encía, mucosa y hueso de soporte. Las afecciones bucodentales pueden impactar negativamente el rendimiento atlético a través de diversos mecanismos: la inflamación crónica puede reducir la capacidad aeróbica, las infecciones orales pueden comprometer el sistema inmunológico, las maloclusiones y trastornos temporomandibulares pueden alterar la biomecánica corporal, y el dolor orofacial puede interferir con la nutrición y el sueño. Además, las infecciones orales crónicas pueden aumentar el estrés oxidativo sistémico, acelerando la fatiga muscular. Se concluye que la salud bucodental juega un papel crucial en el rendimiento deportivo, siendo un aspecto frecuentemente subestimado. La odontología deportiva es esencial para la prevención y manejo de estas condiciones, mejorando no solo la salud bucal de los atletas, sino también su rendimiento general.

Introducción: Para evaluar la fuerza adhesiva se debe evaluar los siguientes parámetros: Fuerza de unión, resistencia de micro-tensión, resistencia de cizallamiento o cizalladura. Propósito: El objetivo del estudio es evaluar la eficacia de los adhesivos universales en relación a restauraciones directas compuesta en esmalte y dentina. Materiales y métodos: La búsqueda bibliográfica se realizó en PubMed, Scielo y Scopus, seleccionaron los artículos que evaluaron la resistencia de microtensión y resistencia al cizallamiento, en los adhesivos universales en comparación con los adhesivos de la séptima, sexta y cuarta generación en esmalte y dentina. Resultados: En la resistencia de microtensión se recopiló 163 estudios de los cuales el 73.62% en dentina y el 26.38% al esmalte. Los estudios basados en esmalte y dentina, se clasificaron por la generación por la que pertenecen y la resistencia al cizallamiento, se pudo recopilar 104 estudios, de los cuales el 61.54% en dentina y el 38.46% en esmalte, los estudios basados en esmalte y dentina también se clasificaron por generación. Discusión: De los adhesivos probados en los diferentes estudios para la resistencia de microtensión se presentó una mayor eficacia para los universales en comparación a las demás generaciones. La resistencia al cizallamiento fue significativamente más baja a los adhesivos universales en comparación a la sexta generación Conclusión: Para la resistencia de microtensión el adhesivo universal presento mayor eficacia tanto en esmalte como en dentina en comparación con las demás generaciones. Para la resistencia al cizallamiento el adhesivo universal presento mayor eficacia en comparación con la séptima y cuarta generación, la sexta generación presento mayor eficacia que los adhesivos universales.

El estudio analiza el impacto de la educación financiera en la sostenibilidad y crecimiento de los negocios informales, especialmente en el contexto ecuatoriano. A través de un análisis bibliométrico, se identificó una carencia significativa de publicaciones de entidades ecuatorianas sobre este tema, subrayando una falta de atención hacia la educación financiera en el sector informal. Los hallazgos destacan la importancia de la educación financiera para que los emprendedores informales gestionen eficazmente sus recursos, tomen decisiones informadas y accedan a financiamiento formal, contribuyendo así al desarrollo económico y la reducción de la pobreza. Se recomienda la implementación de programas de educación financiera dirigidos a este sector y la colaboración entre actores públicos y privados para desarrollar estrategias efectivas. Este estudio proporciona una base para futuras investigaciones y políticas públicas que promuevan la educación financiera como herramienta para el desarrollo económico sostenible.

Sumaco is the easternmost active volcano in Ecuador, and is in the sub-Andean zone, towards the northwest of the country, and located in the Pleistocene Napo Uplift. Together, the tectonic setting of the eastern Andes and Amazonian plain is the main regional feature determining high ecological, landscape, geological and biological diversity. In addition, indigenous cultures of the Amazon have acquired a special status associated with their ancient and contemporary history, transforming it into a mystical element for locals and visitors. These natural and cultural conditions are the perfect framework for adventure tourism and geotourism activities. Community tourism is one of the main economic livelihoods of the Pacto Sumaco community, which has managed to interact with various local and national actors through its Community Tourism Center, creating strategies for sustainable use, conservation, control, monitoring and maintenance of the core area of the Sumaco Biosphere Reserve, being considered an ideal example that demonstrates good practices of local-based tourism. This article discusses holistically the main criteria that have made it possible to strengthen geotourism activities in the Sumaco volcano: geodiversity, biodiversity, ecosystem services, cultural and historical heritage and community participation, as well as key institutional elements, and infrastructures for management and tourism development.

This study describes the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in flow meters installed in drinking water systems and in fog catchers built in low-income, high-altitude communities in the Andes region of Ecuador, taking studies at the University de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE as our reference. The influence and management of these intelligent sensors are analyzed, as well as a basic review of the materials and methods used in their implementation. The importance of validating the accuracy and reliability of IoT sensors compared to professional devices is highlighted, especially in mountain areas with difficult access. Additionally, the cost–benefit of using IoT sensors in fog catchers and drinking water distribution networks is mentioned, which depends on several factors such as the scale of the project, the objectives to be achieved concerning monitoring, and the available resources. Finally, it is highlighted that using Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in construction and water collection systems has proven beneficial in detecting possible effects on its operation and determining consumption and supply flows for a given population.

Actualmente las redes sociales se utilizan para comunicarse y expresar emociones, los padres millennials lo hacen por medio de post o fotografías en plataformas como: facebook, instagram, o whatsapp, se habla de un posible riesgo cuando la imagen es de carácter delicado e involucre a menores de edad y los mismos sean sobreexpuestos. Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar la práctica de sharenting (sobreexposición de hijos en redes sociales) en madres universitarias. El estudio fue de carácter descriptivo y exploratorio, se realizó con una población de 54 madres universitarias. La metodología aplicada fue cuantitativa, se diseñó un instrumento con su respectivo baremo que permitió medir la práctica de sharenting. El constructo fue validado a través del método de juicio de expertos, la confiabilidad por alfa de Cronbach fue de 0.87. Los resultados obtenidos reflejaron que las madres que practican sharenting en un nivel moderado y alto tenían una edad de 20 a 30 años, las redes más empleadas son facebook y whatsapp, los factores que motivan esta práctica son comentarios positivos en publicaciones, reconocimiento y la satisfacción producida por madres al mostrar a sus hijos.

The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is one of the most extensive surgical treatments for obesity. The treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is complex due to the difficulty of accessing the excluded gastric antrum and duodenal bulb. There is no consensus regarding the management of this complication. While various techniques have been described to access the biliopancreatic limb, double-balloon enteroscopy is the most commonly used. If double-balloon enteroscopy is unavailable, a pediatric colonoscope may be used as an alternative; however, its use in such cases has not been described. We report the case of a 50-year-old male patient who underwent gastric bypass 13 years ago and was admitted for a second episode of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The initial approach using upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, and abdominal computed tomography angiography did not reveal the cause of gastrointestinal hemorrhage; therefore, an endoscopic study of the biliopancreatic limb was performed using a pediatric colonoscope. A Forrest Ib ulcer was found in the duodenal bulb, and endoscopic therapy was administered. The evolution was found to be satisfactory.

The human papilloma virus (HPV) group comprises approximately 200 genetic types that have a special affinity for epithelial tissues and can vary from producing benign symptoms to developing into complicated pathologies, such as cancer. The HPV replicative cycle affects various cellular and molecular processes, including DNA insertions and methylation and relevant pathways related to pRb and p53, as well as ion channel expression or function. Ion channels are responsible for the flow of ions across cell membranes and play very important roles in human physiology, including the regulation of ion homeostasis, electrical excitability, and cell signaling. However, when ion channel function or expression is altered, the channels can trigger a wide range of channelopathies, including cancer. In consequence, the up- or down-regulation of ion channels in cancer makes them attractive molecular markers for the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of the disease. Interestingly, the activity or expression of several ion channels is dysregulated in HPV-associated cancers. Here, we review the status of ion channels and their regulation in HPV-associated cancers and discuss the potential molecular mechanisms involved. Understanding the dynamics of ion channels in these cancers should help to improve early diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment in the benefit of HPV-associated cancer patients.

Targeted therapy against cancer plays a key role in delivering safer and more efficient treatments. In the last decades, ion channels have been studied for their participation in oncogenic processes because their aberrant expression and/or function have been associated with different types of malignancies, including ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancer. The altered expression or function of several ion channels have been associated with tumor aggressiveness, increased proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis of cancer cells and with poor prognosis in gynecological cancer patients. Most ion channels are integral membrane proteins easily accessible by drugs. Interestingly, a plethora of ion channel blockers have demonstrated anticancer activity. Consequently, some ion channels have been proposed as oncogenes, cancer, and prognostic biomarkers, as well as therapeutic targets in gynecological cancers. Here, we review the association of ion channels with the properties of cancer cells in these tumors, which makes them very promising candidates to be exploited in personalized medicine. The detailed analysis of the expression pattern and function of ion channels could help to improve the clinical outcomes in gynecological cancer patients.

Internships play a crucial role in the comprehensive education of university students as they provide practical experience and promote the development of technical and soft skills. These practices not only promote personal development but also ease the transition into the world of work. The study aims to use a Neutrosophic Delphi method to analyze the extent to which work practices influence the comprehensive education of university students in Ecuador in 2023. A descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 410 students from academies and universities in Ecuador. Country Ecuador. Center of the country This method uses structured surveys to collect qualitative and quantitative data about the experiences, advantages, and skills acquired during internships. The results are presented in the form of data tables and statistical graphics that illustrate the close connection between professional experience and the overall educational level of students. Emphasis was placed on acquiring skills such as teamwork, leadership, and problemsolving. In summary, internships are a valuable learning tool for university students as they provide the opportunity to apply knowledge, develop skills, and improve their employability. Los pesticidas son productos químicos que se utilizan principalmente en la agricultura para proteger las plantas de plagas, malezas o enfermedades, y en los programas de protección de la salud pública para proteger a los seres humanos de las enfermedades transmitidas por vectores, como malaria, dengue y esquistosomiasis. El uso persistente y la exposición contribuyen a la contaminación del medio ambiente y del cuerpo humano. La bioacumulación de los plaguicidas organoclorados en el tejido adiposo desencadena la excreción en la leche materna durante la lactancia. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de artículos originales escritos en español o inglés. La búsqueda se realizó en las bases de datos Medline, Science Direct y Epistemonikos. No se hicieron restricciones respecto al tipo de estudio. Por ser la leche humana el alimento idóneo para el neonato, es fundamental analizar los factores que determinan la presencia de residuos y contaminantes en la misma. El presente trabajo tiene la finalidad de permitir la comprensión de este importante tema, así como incentivar a la investigación clínica en el medio local debido a la incidencia de uso de mencionados productos y plantear intervenciones para evitar consecuencias en la salud pública.
