Colleges around the country have adopted technology tools to simplify planning and registration processes and provide interventions to support students' timely completion. However, there is little evidence of these tools' efficacy in improving student progression and completion (c.f., Rossman et al., 2021; Velasco et al., 2020). The minimal impact of advising and planning technologies on student success is amplified among institutions supporting the students who make up the new majority of postsecondary learners-- those who are Black, Latine, Indigenous, and/or low- income (BLI/LI). One possible reason for this is that such tools were not designed with the needs of this population in mind. Using process map and focus group data from students at two broad- access universities, coupled with interview data from institutional stakeholders, this study interrogates the ways that BLI/LI students engage in academic planning. We find that this process is more cognitively complex and nuanced than is typically acknowledged; program planning tools do not include the information BLI/LI students require; and low- income college students are particularly disadvantaged by these tools. As such, we find support for the hypothesis that current tools' efficacy is muted because they do not center the needs of BLI/LI students in their design.

Nitrous oxide is an anesthetic medication which can also be recreationally abused in the form of whippet canisters. Its prolonged abuse can interfere with Vitamin B12 metabolism and lead to its functional deficiency. We report a case of a 30-year-old male who presented with generalized weakness and was found to have subacute combined degeneration (SCD) of the spinal cord. His laboratory workup showed low Vitamin B12 with elevated homocysteine and methylmalonic Co-A levels, and further questioning revealed prolonged nitrous oxide abuse. Nitrous oxide causes functional inactivation of methylcobalamin by rendering it unable to function as a coenzyme for methionine synthase enzyme. This leads to the decreased production of methionine and subsequent production of myelin. This case describes nitrous oxide abuse as an important etiology to be considered in patients presenting with weakness and myeloneuropathy and describes important imaging findings.

A 30-day acclimation trial was conducted using golden mahseer, Tor putitora juveniles to study its muscle fatty acid composition at five acclimation temperatures (AT). Ninety juveniles of T. putitora were distributed among five treatment groups (20, 23, 26, 29 and 32±0.5 °C). At the end of 30 days trial, highest percentage of monounsaturated fatty acids was found at 20 °C and lowest at 26 °C. The highest percentage of n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) was found at 23 °C and a decreasing trend was observed with increase in AT. However, highest percentage of n-3 PUFA was found at 32 °C and lowest at 29 °C. The maximum n-6 to n-3 ratio was observed at 23 °C and ratio decreased to a minimum at 32 °C. The results revealed that T. putitora juveniles could adapt to higher acclimation temperatures by altering its muscle fatty acid composition mainly by increasing its total saturated fatty acids especially stearic acid.

Electric vehicles (EVs) have assumed prominence due to their enhanced performance, efficiency, and zero carbon emission. This paper proposes an efficient adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based fractional order PID (FOPID) controller for an EV speed tracking control driven by a DC motor. The optimal controller parameters of the FOPID controller are found via an Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) method. The ANFIS controllers are well trained, tested, and validated using the data set sextracted from the fuzzy-based controllers. The performance and accuracy of the ANFIS model are evaluated using statistical parameters such as mean square error (MSE), coefficient of correlation (R), and root mean square error (RMSE). The controller performance, energy consumption, and robustness are tested using the new European drive cycle (NEDC) test. The efficacy of the ANFIS-based controller is demonstrated by comparing its performance with properly tuned fuzzy-based controllers. The proposed controller shows robustness towards external disturbances and offers promising EV speed regulation control. The comparative results illustrate the superior performance of ANFIS-based FOPID controller with high prediction and low error rates. MATLAB- Simulink platform is used for system modeling, controller design, and numerical simulation.

Institutions of higher education are asked to consider how their work can advance equity in institutional outcomes. Assessment, too, has been asked to consider the ways in which traditional student assessment "privileges and validates certain types of learning and evidence of learning over others" (Montenegro and Jankowski 2017, p. 5). As part of the Grand Challenges in Assessment project (Singer-Freeman and Robinson 2020), the authors have begun to identify ways to foster more equitable assessment nationally and at individual institutions (Heiser and Milligan 2021). Professional development for faculty, assessment professionals, administrators, and graduate students opens the doors to more equitable work in this area by providing context, concrete resources, applications, and case studies of practice. The Grand Challenges Equity Implementation Team is currently curating a list of professional development options related to collecting and using assessment findings to increase equity. They are organizing the resources around core components of the assessment process: program design theory, program outcomes, assessment design, data collection, data analysis, use of results, and documentation of findings. In this article, the authors share a summary of the resources and share recommendations for how to leverage these resources at an institution.
