A battery's open circuit voltage (OCV) curve can be seen as its electrochemical signature. Its shape and age-related shift provide information on aging processes and material composition on both electrodes. However, most OCV analyses have to be conducted in laboratories or specified field tests to ensure suitable data quality. Here, we present a method that reconstructs the OCV curve continuously over the lifetime of a battery using the operational data of home storage field measurements over eight years. We show that low-dynamic operational phases, such as the overnight household supply with electricity, are suitable for recreating quasi OCV curves. We apply incremental capacity analysis and differential voltage analysis and show that known features of interest from laboratory measurements can be tracked to determine degradation modes in field operation. The dominant degradation mode observed for the home storage systems under evaluation is the loss of lithium inventory, while the loss of active material might be present in some cases. We apply the method to lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC), a blend of lithium manganese oxide (LMO) and NMC, and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. In this work, we present a calculation of the triton $\beta$-decay lifetime using Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory (NLEFT) at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion. By incorporating a non-perturbative treatment of the higher-order corrections, we achieve consistent predictions for the Fermi and Gamow-Teller matrix elements, which are crucial for determining the triton lifetime. Our results are consistent with earlier theoretical calculations, confirming the robustness of our approach. This study marks a significant advancement in the systematic application of NLEFT to nuclear $\beta$-decay processes, paving the way for future high-precision calculations in more complex nuclear systems. Additionally, we discuss potential improvements to our approach, including the explicit inclusion of two-pion exchange mechanisms and the refinement of three-nucleon forces. Understanding the strong interactions within baryonic systems beyond the up and down quark sector is pivotal for a comprehensive description of nuclear forces. This study explores the interactions involving hyperons, particularly the $\Lambda$ particle, within the framework of nuclear lattice effective field theory (NLEFT). By incorporating $\Lambda$ hyperons into the NLEFT framework, we extend our investigation into the $S = -1$ sector, allowing us to probe the third dimension of the nuclear chart. We calculate the $\Lambda$ separation energies ($B_{\Lambda}$) of hypernuclei up to the medium-mass region, providing valuable insights into hyperon-nucleon ($YN$) and hyperon-nucleon-nucleon ($YNN$) interactions. Our calculations employ high-fidelity chiral interactions at N${}^3$LO for nucleons and extend it to $\Lambda$ hyperons with leading-order S-wave $YN$ interactions as well as $YNN$ forces constrained only by the $A=4,5$ systems. This paper reviews the new highly interdisciplinary research field studying the behavior of condensed matter systems exposed to radiation. The paper highlights several relevant examples of recent advances in the field and provides a roadmap for the development of the field in the next decade. Condensed matter systems exposed to radiation may have very different natures, being inorganic, organic or biological, finite or infinite, be composed of many different molecular species or materials, existing in different phases (solid, liquid, gaseous or plasma) and operating under different thermodynamic conditions. The essential and novel element of this research is that, despite the vast diversity of such systems, many of the key phenomena related to the behavior of irradiated systems (such as radiation-induced damage, mechanisms of damage repair and control, radiation protection, etc.) are very similar and can be understood based on the same fundamental theoretical principles and computational approaches. One of the essential features of the aforementioned phenomena concerns their multiscale nature as the manifestation of the radiation-induced effects occurring at different spatial and temporal scales ranging from the atomic to the macroscopic. The multiscale nature of the effects and similarity of their manifestation in systems of different origins necessarily brings together different disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, biology, materials and nano-science, and biomedical research, demonstrating numerous interlinks and commonalities between them. We analyze the contribution of pionic final state interactions (FSI) in the weak decay of the hypertriton. Focusing on the $^3$He channel, we find a contribution of the pionic FSI of the order of $18\%$. Assuming a fixed value for the branching ratio $R_3$ for the decay width into $^3$He over the decay width into $^3$He and $pd$ final states, we find values for the hypertriton lifetime that are consistent with the world average as well as recent measurements by the ALICE Collaboration., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

Ab initio calculations play an essential role in our fundamental understanding of quantum many-body systems across many subfields, from strongly correlated fermions to quantum chemistry and from atomic and molecular systems to nuclear physics. One of the primary challenges is to perform accurate calculations for systems where the interactions may be complicated and difficult for the chosen computational method to handle. Here we address the problem by introducing a new approach called wavefunction matching. Wavefunction matching transforms the interaction between particles so that the wavefunctions up to some finite range match that of an easily computable interaction. This allows for calculations of systems that would otherwise be impossible due to problems such as Monte Carlo sign cancellations. We apply the method to lattice Monte Carlo simulations of light nuclei, medium-mass nuclei, neutron matter, and nuclear matter. We use high-fidelity chiral effective field theory interactions and find good agreement with empirical data. These results are accompanied by new insights on the nuclear interactions that may help to resolve long-standing challenges in accurately reproducing nuclear binding energies, charge radii, and nuclear matter saturation in ab initio calculations., Comment: 24 pages, 10 figues, 13 tables. We introduce Quantum Register Algebra (QRA) as an efficient tool for quantum computing. We show the direct link between QRA and Dirac formalism. We present GAALOP (Geometric Algebra Algorithms Optimizer) implementation of our approach. Using the QRA basis vectors definitions given in Section 4 and the framework based on the de Witt basis presented in Section 5, we are able to fully describe and compute with QRA in GAALOP using the geometric product. We illustrate the intuitiveness of this computation by presenting the QRA form for the well known SWAP operation on a two qubit register., Comment: 11 pages

We develop the impurity lattice Monte Carlo formalism, for the case of two distinguishable impurities in a bath of polarized fermions. The majority particles are treated as explicit degrees of freedom, while the impurities are described by worldlines. The latter serve as localized auxiliary fields, which affect the majority particles. We apply the method to non-relativistic three-dimensional systems of two impurities and a number of majority particles where both the impurity-impurity interaction and the impurity-majority interaction have zero range. We consider the case of an attractive impurity-majority interaction, and we study the formation and disintegration of bound states as a function of the impurity-impurity interaction strength. Aims. We aim to establish a rough first prospect on the potential of certain biorelevant solvents (water, ammonia and methane) to be present in liquid form inside the uppermost few meters of several modelled surfaces (rocky and icy crusts of various compositions) of hypothetical bodies orbiting active galactic nuclei (AGN), and investigate under which constraints this might occur. Methods. We adjust and average together X-ray spectra from a sample of 20 Type 1 Seyfert galaxies to calculate a mean snowline of the sample used. Based on this, we introduce variation of a hypothetical body's orbit across distances between 10% and 100% of the snowline radius, and calculate a sub-surface attenuation within four different model surface compositions for each. Surface compositions are based on lunar soil and solvent ices found in the milky way's circumnuclear region. We then use this as a continuous source term for a thermal model. Example bodies are systematically investigated with sizes between 1/30 and 20 earth radii. Further outlier variations are also considered (such as the case of bound rotation of the body) to end up with a perspective of solvent phases under a wide slew of many different conditions. Results. We find that liquid solvents are possible under a multitude of parameters, with temperature being the main constraint to liquid water and body size as well as pressure being the main constraint to liquid methane and ammonia. We further find that these results, when adjusted for snowline distance, depend less on the energy output of the central source within the Seyfert Type 1 AGN than on other parameters, such as body sizes and solvent properties., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures Appendix 8 pages, 9 figures

Many studies have demonstrated that testing students on to-be-learned materials can be an effective learning activity. However, past studies have also shown that some practice test formats are more effective than others. Open-ended recall or short answer practice tests may be effective because the questions prompt deeper processing as students must generate an answer. With closed-ended testing formats such as multiple-choice or true-false tests, there are concerns that they may prompt only superficial processing, and that any benefits will not extend to non-practiced information or over time. They also may not be effective for improving comprehension from text as measured by how-and-why questions. The present study explored the utility of practice tests with closed-ended questions to improve learning from text. Results showed closed-ended practice testing can lead to benefits even when the learning outcome was comprehension of text. An electric vehicle model is developed to characterize the behavior of the Smart e.d. (2013) while driving, charging and providing vehicle-to-grid services. The battery model is an electro-thermal model with a dual polarization equivalent circuit electrical model coupled with a lumped thermal model with active liquid cooling. The aging trend of the EV's 50 Ah large format pouch cell with NMC chemistry is evaluated via accelerated aging tests in the laboratory. The EV model is completed with the measurement of the on-board charger efficiency and the charging control behavior via IEC 61851-1. Performance of the model is validated using laboratory pack tests, charging and driving field data. The RMSE of the cell voltage was between 18.49 mV and 67.17 mV per cell for the validation profiles. Cells stored at 100 % SOC and 40 $^{\circ}C$ reached end-of-life (80 % of initial capacity) after 431 days to 589 days. The end-of-life for a cell cycled with 80 % DOD around an SOC of 50 % is reached after 3634 equivalent full cycles which equates to a driving distance of over 420000 km.
