The Book of Arba'un Hadithan fi Ishtina 'al-Ma'ruf Bayna al-Muslimin could be considered the first book of forty hadith that was written on the virtues of doing kindness to other people. It is one of the works of Imam al-Mundhiri (w 656 H) which means that it has been written around the seventh century. It is said that the book received good acceptance from the public at that time. The Moroccan Ministry of Waqf and Islamic Affairs at this time has republished the book in 1985 justifying the merit of the book. The book contains forty hadiths that have been selected by Imam al-Mundahiri from various hadith resources. The hadiths were about doing kindness dan helping others. However, the author did not mention the sources of the hadiths selected as well as any information about them. Imam Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Sulami al-Munawi (w 803 H) then improved the book by giving information about the sources (takhrij) and brought similar hadiths to the selected hadiths to support them as well as adding some explanation to them. After him, Muhammad bin Makhluf al-Tha'alabi (w 875 H) summarized the book. However, although Imam al-Mundhiri was a scholar of the hadith as well as Imam al-Sulami and al-Tha'alabi, many statuses of the selected hadiths were found not authentic. Nevertheless, some of it was considered fabricated. Likely, Imam al-Sulami and al-Tha'alabi who were commenting on the book did not comment anything about the status. Thus, this paper tries to do takhrij to the hadiths of the book. It will discuss their authenticity as well as highlight the significance of the book in encouraging the activity of doing kindness to people.

The Muslims exerted their utmost efforts in memorizing the hadiths of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and they followed various means and methods, and they spared no effort to preserve the pure Sunnah as the second source of Islamic legislation. So they knew their names, their births and their places of origin, and they followed their journeys in seeking knowledge, and from the total of the narrators a group of people with special needs, including the narrator described as blind. It is an important part of the science of Hadith that preserves the Sunnah for us to bear and perform as long as the hearing is correct. This study tries to take a look on The blind narrators with special needs, who In Al-Mabrard collected in his book "Al-Dabt Wat-Tabeen for the People of Illness and Disabilities among the Muhaddith", and know their personalities, their position in the narration, and the scholars' sayings about them.

Takhrīj hadith (retireieval of hadith) is being considered as a process of disclosing the position of hadith in its premier sources. In this era, this process has become among the matters that are highly demanded to be carried out by various parties to those who are quoting the hadith of the Prophet SAW in their writings. Among the objectives of it is to ease the reader to find the location of the hadith and its source that were quoted from and to preserve the hadith of the Prophet SAW from being manipulated. Meaning that, it can be an evidence to prove that the hadith is truly has its relation to the Prophet SAW and not an invention. Hence, Takhrīj hadith was stressed and became an important matter. Apart from these benefits, there are other benefits related to the Takhrīj that can be obtained in many aspects, especially pertaining with the matn and sanad. This article aims to analyse those benefits as well as describe its positiveness to the ummah dan to the hadith itself.

The division of Muslims into 73 sects was revealed by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and it is reported in a hadith, known as hadith of Iftirāq al-Ummah. This hadith clarifies the existence of one of the sects which is in the right path, named al-Firqah al-Nājiyah, whilst the rest of the sects are described as unjust sects and Allah SWT promised them Hell. Consequently, there are sects claiming themselves to be the al-Firqah al-Nājiyah and labelling the others who are not in agreement with them as unrighteous. This circumstance evoked certain parties to reject this hadith because it is thought to be the root of schisms and disunity of the people. The rejection of the hadith however should be based on the strength and weakness of the reliance on the hadith’s sanad and does not rely solely on the assumption of Illah’s existence from the sanad’s meaning. Hence, this qualitative study was conducted upon 33 reports of hadith Iftirāq al-Ummah from 14 sahabahs of Prophet Muhammad. The evaluation is made based on the discussions among the trustworthy scholars of hadith by analyzing the chain of narrators and the relation between the chains of narrators. The study found that this hadith was reported from five sahabah r.a which was originally at hasan level and could be upgraded to sahih level with the assistance of shawahid from the report of five narrations of sahabah. Each of the narration supported and strengthen each other. Whereas the rest of the narrations are not escaped from flaws and weaknesses of the narrators. Sahih level of narrations explained that al-Firqah al-Nājiyah was al-Jama‘ah and al-Sawad al-A‘zam. Abstrak Perpecahan umat Islam kepada 73 puak telah diberitakan oleh Rasulullah melalui sebuah hadis yang dikenali sebagai hadis Iftirāq al-Ummah. Hadis ini menjelaskan bahawa wujudnya satu puak yang berada dalam kebenaran (al-Firqah al-Nājiyah), manakala puak yang selebihnya disifatkan sebagai puak yang sesat. Rentetan itu, terdapat puak yang mendakwa diri masing-masing sebagai al-Firqah al-Nājiyah, sekaligus melontar kesesatan terhadap pihak yang bertentangan dan berlainan aliran. Keadaan ini mendorong sesetengah pihak menolak hadis ini kerana dianggap sebagai punca perbalahan dan perpecahan umat. Sewajarnya penolakan sesebuah hadis perlulah berdasarkan kepada kekuatan dan kelemahan sandaran sanad hadis dan tidak semata-mata bergantung kepada sangkaan wujudnya ʻillah pada makna hadis. Justeru kajian kualitatif dijalankan terhadap 33 periwayatan hadis Iftirāq al-Ummah yang diriwayatkan melalui 14 orang para sahabat. Analisis sanad hadis dengan mengikut metode ahli hadis dijalankan terhadap rantaian sanad hadis di samping penilaian terhadap pertautan di antara sanad. Kajian mendapati bahawa sebahagian sanad hadis ini berada pada kedudukan hasan, dan dapat ditingkatkan ke tahap sahih dengan adanya shawāhid daripada lima periwayatan para sahabat. Setiap riwayat tersebut menguatkan di antara satu sama lain. Manakala riwayat yang selainnya tidak lekang daripada kecacatan dan kelemahan periwayatnya. Riwayat yang sahih menjelaskan bahawa al-Firqah al-Nājiyah ialah al-Jamāʻah dan al-Sawād al-A'zam.

Israiliyyat are ancient tales which are coming from Israelite that are found whether in Quran or Hadeeth. Its have some negative impacts which can be found in the exegesis of the Quran. Various efforts had been carried out to purify the exegesis of the Qur'anic from the awry ideals of that can effect on muslims believe and ethics. This study was conducted to find out the level of understanding of lecturers from Islamic Studies on Israiliyyat, to identify the level of their awareness on the dangers of the Israiliyyat, and to assess the way they presente the stories of Israiliyyat while teaching, especially the Israiliyyat related to muslims believe. Method used in this study is field research which involves 101 lecturers from five public and private institutions of higher learning namely Univesiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaya (UM) dan Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS). The findings show that awareness among lecturers on the dangers of Israiliyyat can be identified, although they find that there are some interest in some of the Israeliyyat stories were supported by Islamic law. Abstrak Riwayat Israiliyyat mempunyai beberapa impak negatif yang boleh ditemui dalam kitab-kitab Tafsir al-Quran. Pelbagai usaha memurnikan dan membersihkan tafsiran-tafsiran ayat al-Quran dari fahaman yang tidak menepati kemurnian aqidah dan tata susila telah giat dijalankan sejak dahulu lagi. Lalu kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengetahui tahap pengetahuan dan pemahaman para pensyarah terhadap riwayat Israiliyyat yang tersebar, mengenal pasti sejauh mana tahap kesedaran para pensyarah akan bahaya dan kepentingan riwayat Israiliyyat tersebut, dan menilai bagaimana cara mereka menyampaikan riwayat Israiliyyat tersebut khususnya riwayat yang menjejas akidah. Metod kajian menggunakan kaedah kajian lapangan yang melibatkan responden seramai 101 pensyarah daripada lima institut pengajian tinggi awam dan swasta iaitu Univesiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaya (UM) dan Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS). Dapatan kajian menunjukkanbahawa kesedaran dikalangan pensyarah akan bahaya Israiliyyat dapat dikenal pasti, meskipun mereka mendapati ada beberapa kepentingan dalam sebahagian riwayat Israiliyyat yang disokong oleh syariat Islam.

The applications of information and communications technologies (ICT) have become an important instrument of education nowadays. Besides being as tools for presentation and communication, there are many more ICT tools that could help the teaching and learning process. In the field of hadith (Prophetic tradition), there are many ICT applications that have been developed. The applications were developed mainly to ease the Muslim to get close and comprehend their second primary source of religion legislation which is their Prophet's hadith. The functions of the applications were rapidly upgraded besides its ability to digitizing the resources, it can store huge amount of data, facilitate quick access to databases, analyze and classify the data simultaneously. Thus, this study tries to look over the integration of the applications in the study of hadith in Malaysian public universities whether it being exposed, integrated or consolidated. Moreover, this study also tries to ponder over the lecturers’ perception, acknowledgment, skill level as well as the barriers hindered the integration of the applications. The findings of this study are most Malaysian public universities lecturer are skillful at using applications related hadith, most of them accepted the new technology well and integrated it into their teaching and there is no barrier of integrating ICT at their institution. Instead, their institutions offered full support for the integration. However, there is some disagreement from some lecturer for the full integration of ICT in the study of hadith for their opinion that the study of hadith must persevere its traditional method of teaching.

Islam is a religion of violence, spread by the sword, and the Islamic State's relationship with other nations and with non-Muslims is but war and fighting. These are the common words to portray Islam and the Islamic State. What is the reality of the ground in the opinion of Mohammad Rashid Rida through his interpretation of al-Manar? This study attempted to answer these questions through his interpretation of the verses ordering Muslims to fight non-Muslims, and verses prohibiting Muslims to having a good relationship with non-Muslims, and verses allowing Muslims to having good relationship with non-Muslims. The study concluded that in the opinion of Mohammad Rashid Rida, peace is the priority in the relations between the Islamic State and others, war and fighting is for protection and to defend its right. The method upon which the study is based is inductive method. The researchers elaborated in the study verses in which Rashid Rida in his Tafsir al-Manar

Muawiyah ibn Abu Sufyan RA, one of the companions of the Prophet, was among the personality whom frequently hit by controversy. Some criticism towards him based on adverse stories have been published in many literatures, especially works on Islamic history. This is equally true for non-Arab writers when writing about Islamic history in their native language. Among the works was the book 'Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan' written by Abdullah b. Hamid al-Idrus. This book is among the earliest works in the Malay language that specifically address Muawiyah personality. However, this book not only presents the biography of Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan, but it also brings along adverse stories and defamation account of him. This article aims to examine the information and facts on Muawiyah in this book by employing historical critical methodology, especially in critiquing the doubtful facts about him. The findings show that the information presented in this book invites suspicious and awful image towards Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan RA. Moreover, this book does not apply the proper methodology in interpreting historical accounts. Most of the stories and narratives presented are mostly antagonistic and hateful.

Studi ini mengkaji perbandingan peran Muhammad Idris al-Marbawi dari Malaysia dan Muhammad Hasbi Ash Shiddieqy dari Indonesia dalam bidang hadis. Kedua ulama dinilai telah memberikan kontribusi bagi studi hadis di dua negara. Studi ini merupakan studi kepustakaan. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui kegiatan studi dokumen. Karya-karya kedua ulama dijadikan sebagai sumber primer dan hasil penelitian para ahli tentang kedua ulama dijadikan sebagai sumber sekunder. Berdasarkan analisis terhadap data penelitian, studi ini menemukan bahwa kedua ulama telah menulis dalam bidang hadis. Selain bidang hadis, kedua ulama yang hidup dalam periode yang sama tetapi berasal dari negara yang berbeda ini juga menulis dalam bidang ilmu keislaman lainnya terutama tafsir, fikih. Bedanya, al-Marbawi mengembangkan kajian tasawuf, sedangkan Ash Shiddieqy tidak pernah menulis dalam disiplin tersebut. Abstract: Peran Ulama Malaysia dan Indonesia dalam bidang Hadis: Muhammad Idris al-Marbawi dan T.M. Hasbi Ash Shiddieqy. This study compares the roles of Muhammad Idris al-Marbawi from Malaysia and Muhammad Hasbi Ash Shiddieqy from Indonesia in the field of hadith. Both scholars were considered to have contributed to the study of hadith in respective countries. This study is a library research, the data of which was obtained through documentary study. The works of the two scholars were used as primary sources and the the previous researches of expert on the two scholars were used as secondary sources. This study found that both scholars had involved in hadith studies and left a number of important works in the field. The authors also found that the two scholars who lived in the same period but in a different country also wrote in other Islamic fields, especially Qur’anic exegesis and Islamic law, in addition to hadith.
