Co(II), and Mn(II) complexes using 2,2′-(2-((carboxymethyl)(2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-2-oxoethyl)amino)ethylazanediyl)diacetato (SCHOEA), derivative of disodium salt of EDTA were synthesized by three stages and characterized by spectroscopic (UV–Visible, FTIR, EPR, 1H NMR) techniques, magnetic susceptibility measurements and thermal studies (TA). Electronic and magnetic susceptibility measurements indicated low-spin octahedral complexes. The FTIR spectra supported the coordination mode of the ligand as hexadentate with the metal ions. Molar conductivity supported the non-electrolytic nature of the complexes. The EPR spectra confirmed the distorted octahedral geometry of the complexes based on the computation of Hamiltonian parameters and the degree of covalency. In vitro antimicrobial activities of the ligand and metal complexes against three bacterial (Enterobacteraerogenes, Micrococcus luteus, Shigellaflexineria) and two fungal species (Candida albicans, Aspergillusflavus) were performed by disc diffusion method which revealed that the complexes are more potent bactericides and fungicides than the ligand.

Cadmium selenide (CdSe), cobalt and nickel doped cadmium selenide (Ni, Co-CdSe) nanoparticles were synthesized by solvothermal method. The structure, size, morphology and optical properties of the nanoparticles were characterized. The X-ray diffraction pattern supported hexagonal, wurtzite structure and the crystallite sizes were found to be 13.7, 11.94 and 10.07 nm for CdSe, Ni and Co-CdSe nanoparticles respectively and it was also confirmed by TEM analysis. Scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images showed that the dopants adhered to the substrate uniformly and the effective doping was further confirmed by EDX spectral analysis. The band gap energy was computed as 2.5, 3.4 and 3.8 eV for CdSe, Ni and Co-CdSe nanoparticles respectively from UV spectroscopic analysis. The kinetics of electron transport properties were studied by electrochemical analysis and it was found that Co-CdSe has more electrochemical activity compared to Ni-CdSe nanoparticles. DSSCs were fabricated with a dye immobilized semiconductor photo anode (TiO2), redox active electrolytes, ruthenium dye as sensitizer and CdSe, Ni and Co-CdSe as counter electrodes. The maximum power conversion efficiency of solar cells were found to be 2.4%, 4.1% and 4.7% for CdSe, Ni and Co-CdSe nanoparticles and it was found that the dopants affect the morphology of the electrode materials which influence the efficiency of solar cell.

Renal imaging is a well-established technique in nuclear medicine. The renal imaging agents used in the current methods have some drawbacks as they take lot of time so as to produce good quality images. Hence, newer renal imaging agents were explored that can reduce the time taken to produce quality images. dl-Ritalinic acid (dlRA) was synthesized and d- and l- isomers were separated by resolution using resolving agent, (+)-dibenzoyl-D-tartaric acid. The purity of d-ritalinic acid (dRA) was determined by HPLC analysis and the structure was characterized by spectroscopic techniques (IR, mass, NMR). The complex, 99mTc-dRA, was prepared by the addition of 99mTc sodiumpertechnetate using stannous chloride dihydrate as reducing agent. The various factors which affect the radiolabeling efficiency such as reaction time, amount of ligand (dRA), reducing agent, anti-oxidant, and pH of reaction medium were studied. Radiochemical purity and in vitro stability of the labeled complex, 99mTc-dRA, were studied using ascending paper chromatography in saline and acetone media. Biodistribution studies of the complex (99mTc-dRA) and commercially available renal imaging agents (99mTc-DTPA and 99mTc-EC) in Wistar rats were studied by drawing region of interest over the organs without sacrificing the animal and the results were compared. Radiochemical purity of 99mTc-dRA was found to be 95.65 ± 3.36% at a pH range of 5.5–6.5 and was stable up to 6 h at room temperature. The optimum labeling was found to be in the ratio of 1:4:0.5 of ligand (dRA), ascorbic acid, and stannous chloride dihydrate. Compared to commercial renal imaging agents (99mTc-DTPA and 99mTc-EC), the synthesized complex, 99mTc-dRA, showed high target to non-target (T/NT) counts, clear images in early stages and is harmless as it is a metabolite of drug already taken up by body organs.

Synthesis of novel β-amino alcohols 7a–d and 9a–d have been disclosed by in situ formation of Schiff base from phenylacetylcarbinol 1 (PAC), followed by Grignard reaction. An optimized synthetic method has been reported to obtain chemically pure β-amino alcohols with excellent yield. The structures of the obtained compounds were confirmed using spectral techniques such as IR, NMR and Mass. The compounds obtained were screened for their cytotoxicity activity against A549 cancer cells and significant cytotoxicity properties were found for all the tested compounds. Interestingly, potent cytotoxicity properties were found for compounds 7b and 7d against A549 cells at

4-Fluorobenzyltriphenylphosphonium chloride (4-FBTC), a quaternary phosphonium salt, was synthesized, a single crystal was grown by slow evaporation method, and the structure was confirmed by single crystal XRD and spectral analyses. The single crystal XRD analysis showed the triclinic crystal structure with molecular formula, C50H48P2F2Cl2O3. Thermal studies were carried out at three different heating rates (5, 10 and 15 °C min−1) under N2 atmosphere, which shows the single-stage decomposition at all heating rates. The conventional, non-isothermal decomposition kinetic studies using model-free method were carried out to calculate the kinetic parameters like activation energy, pre-exponential factor, half-life and rate constant at various conversion percentages (1, 2.5, 5, 10 and 20%). Lifetime of 4-FBTC at room temperature for different conversion percentages was calculated to estimate the stability of the compound. Specific heat capacity and change in enthalpy were calculated using DSC analysis at 10 °C min−1 heating rate under N2 atmosphere.

New 1,4-disubstituted &beta, pyrrolidino-1,2,3-triazoles were synthesized using a reusable copper-iodide-doped neutral alumina catalyst. Synthesis of diversely substituted triazoles and recyclability of CuI catalyst explains the broad scope of this protocol. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial and anticancer properties. Most of the compounds showed significant antimicrobial activities against all the tested microorganisms compared to standard drugs. Furthermore, compounds 5a, 5e, 5g, 5h, 5i, and 5j showed moderate to potent activities against A549 and HepG-2 cells. In addition, compounds 5g and 5h displayed potential cytotoxicity activity against A549 cells with IC50 values of 72 &plusmn, 3.21 and 58 &plusmn, 2.31 &micro, M, respectively. The molecular docking study revealed that some of the synthesized compounds exhibited comparable binding as co-crystalized ligands with the DNA topoisomerase IV and anaplastic lymphoma kinase receptors.

Novel 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazolo bosentan derivatives 1a–n from bosentan 2 were synthesized in good yields by sequential chlorination, azidation followed by Cu(I) catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition. All obtained compounds 1a–n were evaluated for their antimicrobial and in vitro anticancer activities and by in silico docking studies. Among all tested compounds 1e,f and 1h–j show better antimicrobial activities against the tested bacteria and fungi. When subjected to anticancer testing, compounds 1g–j and 1n show significant activities against both A549 and SKOV-3 cell lines with IC50 values at 7.81 μg mL−1 and among them compound 1i exhibited very potent activity. In addition, no toxicity was calculated up to 2 mg mL−1 in Vero cells. In silico studies were conducted to investigate the possible bonding modes of 1a–n with target receptors namely DNA topoisomerase IV (4 EMV) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (2XP2). Among them, compounds 1e and 1h show maximum binding energies with 4EMV and 2XP2 receptors, respectively which also exhibited good antimicrobial and potent anticancer activities.

Cadmium sulfide nanoparticles were prepared by chemical co-precipitation method using cadmium acetate, sodium sulfide and tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) as a capping agent. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by using UV-Vis spectroscopic analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscopic analysis (FESEM), Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) and BET surface area nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis. The band gap of capped CdS was calculated by using UV-Vis absorption spectrum as 3.23 eV. The X-ray diffraction pattern revealed that the synthesized cadmium sulfide nanoparticles were polycrystalline nature with wurtzite hexagonal structure and crystallite size was calculated as 7.2 nm by using Debye Scherer method. The surface area, pore volume and pore size were found to be 93.15 m2/g, 1.64 × 10−2 cm3/g and 6.2 A by BET nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis. The dielectric constant , dielectric loss and AC conductivities were studied over a range of frequency (50 Hz–5 MHz) and temperature (40–200 °C). Solar cell was fabricated using cadmium sulfide as photocathode, titanium dioxide as photoanode, potassium iodide/iodine as an electrolyte solution, ruthenium dye as a sensitizer and power conversion efficiency was found to be 2.7 %.

The stereo isomers, d- and l-phenyl propanolamine hydrochloride (nor-ephedrine) were stereo-selectively synthesized from benzaldehyde and nitroethane followed by catalytic reduction using hydrogen and Raney nickel. The nor-ephedrine was characterized by UV, IR, and LC/MS analysis. The purity of the synthesized nor-ephedrine hydrochlorides was analyzed using HPLC. Resolution of d- and l-isomer of PPA hydrochloride was carried out using the resolving agent, d-3-formyl-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylicacid. Optical rotation was found to be ±36°. The temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and conductivity of d- and l-isomers of nor-ephedrine were studied over a range of frequency (50 Hz–5 MHz) and temperature (40–140 °C). It was found that d-isomer possesses higher dielectric constant and AC conductivity values compared to l-isomer. The band gap of 1.35 and 1.69 eV for d- and l-isomers, respectively, indicates that these two compounds behave as organic semiconductor materials.

Ternary zinc stannate (Zn2SnO4) nanoparticles were synthesized using the green hydrothermal technique at 200 °C for different reaction times and they were used as photoanodes for dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The photovoltaic performance of the DSSC cells was characterized by measuring the J–V curves in dark, and under illumination. Among the three DSSC cells, the photoanode based on Zn2SnO4 nanoflower synthesized at 200 °C for 48 h recorded the highest conversion efficiency of 3.346% under 1 sun illumination (AM 1.5 G, 100 mW cm−2) with improved short-circuit current density of 7.859 mA cm−2, and comparable open-circuit photovoltage (0.626 V) and fill factor (0.679). This enhancement of characteristics is primarily attributed to the higher current density owing to its better crystalline quality as well as the larger surface area of Zn2SnO4 nanoflowers, all of which are the results of longer reaction time. The findings are further substantiated by means of open-circuit photovoltage decay experiment, dye loading behavior and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Non centrosymmetric potassium p-nitrophenolate dihydrate single crystals have been grown by employing the technique of slow solvent evaporation from aqueous solution by slightly adjusting the pH and growth temperature. The grown crystals have been identified from single crystal XRD analysis, FTIR and FT Raman spectroscopic techniques. The high resolution X-ray diffraction experiments substantiate good quality of the title material. Between 510 and 2000 nm, the material is observed to be nearly transparent allowing it to be explored for potential use in device fabrication. In addition, the photoluminescence spectrum of the grown crystal at room temperature shows a stable broad violet-blue emission around the 383–550 nm wavelengths with the maximum centered at 436 nm. Owing to its excellent non linear figure of merit and strong PL emission, the title crystal can have technological applications in opto-electronic devices.

A single crystal of heptaaqua-p-nitrophenolatostrontium(II) nitrophenol (HNSN) was grown, and the structure was confirmed by UV–Vis–NIR, FT-IR, FT-NMR, and high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) analyses. The dielectric loss, dielectric constant, and the mechanical strength of the crystal have already been reported. The dynamic, non-isothermal thermal analysis was carried out at different heating rates, and TG and DTG data were used for the interpretation of the mechanisms and kinetics of decomposition by means of a model fitting method, Coats–Redfern equation, and a model-free method, Kissinger and Flynn–Wall method. The values of activation energy (E) and the pre-exponential factor (ln A) of each stage of thermal decomposition at various linear heating rates were calculated.

The performance of inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectrometry (ICP‐AES) for the determination of 14 lanthanides and Yttrium was evaluated by comparison with inductively coupled plasma–mass spectral (ICP‐MS) analysis. The geochemical reference samples (GRS), DNC‐1(diabase), AGV‐1(andesite), Sy‐2(syenite), MRG‐1(gabbro), AN‐G(anorthosite), AC‐E(granite), and MAG‐1(marine mud) were chosen as test materials and analyzed for checking the precision and reproducibility of the methods. The mineral garnet is separated from the black sands of the southwest coast of India, and the combined cation exchange–ICP method of AES analysis and MS analysis were carried out for the determination of rare earth elements.
