Abstract

The potential of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment to measure Drell-Yan muon pairs is discussed. Muon pairs can be measured in CMS with high precision up to very high invariant masses. The systematic errors are considered. Abstract

A self-consistent analysis of K --> 2pi and K --> 3pi decays within a unique framework of chiral dynamics applied to the QCD-corrected weak nonleptonic quark lagrangian has been performed. The results on K --> 2pi amplitudes at O(p^6), including the value for epsilon'/epsilon, are compared with experiment to fix phenomenological B-factors for mesonic matrix elements of nonpenguin and penguin four-quark operators. The dependence of these B-factors on different theoretical uncertainties and experimental errors of various input parameters is investigated. 10. Photoproduction of neutral pion pairs in the Coulomb field of the nucleus

Abstract

The total cross section for Coulomb photoproduction of neutral pion pairs in the reaction gamma A --> pi0 pi0 A is estimated within the effective chiral lagrangian approach. The amplitude of gamma gamma* --> pi0 pi0 with one off-shell photon is calculated at O(p^6) in the momentum expansion; in addition, nuclear absorption is taken into account. 11. $\gamma\gamma\to\pi^0\pi^0$ and $\eta\to\pi^0\gamma\gamma$ at $O(p^6)$ in the NJL model

Abstract

We discuss the processes $\gamma\gamma\to\pi^0\pi^0$ and $\eta\to\pi^0 \gamma\gamma$ at $O(p^6)$ in the momentum expansion. The calculation involves tree--level, one--loop and two--loop diagrams of a chiral effective lagrangian which is obtained by a bosonization of the NJL model. The importance of integrating out meson resonances (reduction) is pointed out. Our final results for the total cross section of $\gamma\gamma\to\pi^0\pi^0$ are in good agreement with the experimental data of the Crystal Ball Collaboration. For the width of the $\eta\to\pi^0\gamma\gamma$ decay we obtain the value $0.11$ eV which has to be compared with the experimental value of $(0.84 \pm 0.18)$ eV. Alternatively, taking empirical parameters from a vector--meson--dominance model the prediction for the decay width is $0.35$ eV. We present a prediction for the differential decay probability as a function of $m_{\gamma\gamma}^2/m_\eta^2$., Comment: 16 pages, LaTeX, 2 figures included. Abstract

The calculation of heat-kernel coefficients with the classical DeWitt algorithm has been discussed. We present the explicit form of the coefficients up to $h_5$ in the general case and up to $h_7^{min}$ for the minimal parts. The results are compared with the expressions in other papers. 14. Chiral Meson Lagrangians from the QCD Based NJL Model Modified by Nonlocal Effects

Abstract

Starting from a QCD inspired bilocal quark interaction we obtain a local effective meson lagrangian. In contrast to previous local (NJL-like) approaches, we include nonlocal corrections related to the finite meson size which we characterize by a small parameter. After bosonization using the heat-kernel method we predict the structure coefficients of the Gasser-Leutwyler $p^4$-lagrangian up to first order in this parameter. The modifications for the $L_i$ coefficients are typically of the order 10-20\%, except for $L_5$, where we find a stronger nonlocal influence.

Abstract

We give a simple expression in linear and quadratic Dalitz--plot slopes which does not depend on the charge combination of the $3\pi$ state $(K^\pm \to \pi^{\pm}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ or $\pi^{\pm}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ and $K_L^{0} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ or $\pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0})$, if all phases between final states are negligible. After investigating the influence of radiative corrections, it is shown how new measurements, especially of quadratic slopes in the $\pi^{\pm} \pi^{0} \pi^{0}$ channel, could help to test theoretical predictions more stringently. Abstract

The calculations of isotopic amplitudes and their results for the direct $CP$--violating charge asymmetry in $K^\pm \to 3\pi$ decays within the nonlinear and linear ($\sigma$--model) chiral Lagrangian approach are compared with each other. It is shown, that the latter, taking into account intermediate scalar resonances, does not reproduce the $p^4$--corrections of the nonlinear approach introduced by Gasser and Leutwyler, being saturated mainly by vector resonance exchange. Abstract

The amplitudes of $K \rightarrow \pi \gamma^* \rightarrow \pi e^+e^-$ and $K \rightarrow \pi \pi \gamma$ decays have been calculated within chiral Lagrangian approach including higher-order derivative terms and meson loops. The selfconsistency of the simultaneous description of the experimental data on the nonleptonic and radiative kaon decays have been demonstrated. Abstract

Results of searches for signals from new physics beyond the Standard Model in proton–proton collisions at the c.m. energy of $$\sqrt{s}=13$$ TeV are surveyed. Dilepton-production events detected by the CMS experiment during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are used in these searches. The total amount of the data under analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of up to 140 fb $${}^{-1}$$ . The results in question were interpreted within models of an extended gauge sector, scenarios of low-energy gravity, and in the context of searches for dark-matter particles. The results of searches for the rare Higgs boson decay to two muons are also discussed.

Abstract

A search for narrow resonances in dimuon invariant mass spectra has been performed using 13 fb-1 data obtained in 2016 from proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. No evidence for physics beyond standard model is found. Limits on the production cross section and the masses of hypothetical particles that could appear in the scenarios of new physics have been set.

Abstract

We present a review of the CMS search for new high-mass resonances decaying to lepton pair. The search uses pp collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13 Tev collected in 2016 by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 and 36.3 fb−1 for electrons and muons, respectively [1]. These data were interpreted in a simplified model of dark matter production via a vector or axial-vector mediator, limits at 95% confidence level are obtained on the masses of the dark matter particle and its mediator.

Abstract

A survey of the results on the search of new heavy resonances decaying into muon, electron, or photon pairs in the CMS experiment at proton beams of the LHC in the run of 2015 for the total center of mass energy √s = 13 TeV is presented. The limits for heavy resonance production cross sections are set. Excess of diphoton events in the region of mass spectra near 750 GeV with a local statistical significance of 3.4 σ and a global statistical significance of 1.6 σ is observed.

Abstract

We present a review of the CMS search for new high-mass resonances decaying to lepton pair. The search uses pp collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 Tev collected in 2016 by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 and 36.3 fb−1 for electrons and muons, respectively [1]. These data were interpreted in a simplified model of dark matter production via a vector or axial-vector mediator, limits at 95% confidence level are obtained on the masses of the dark matter particle and its mediator. Abstract

A search for narrow resonances in dimuon invariant mass spectra has been performed using 13 fb-1 data obtained in 2016 from proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. No evidence for physics beyond standard model is found. Limits on the production cross section and the masses of hypothetical particles that could appear in the scenarios of new physics have been set.
