Abstract

Abstract The design of three‐dimensional (3D)‐printed heterogeneous ceramics exhibiting isotropic and anisotropic dielectric permittivities at microwave frequencies is studied for dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) applications. The heterogeneous ceramics are engineered by using periodic structures made up of subwavelength unit cells filled with zirconia ceramic and air. Ceramic stereolithography (CSLA) allows the 3D printing of a one‐piece ceramic block mixing isotropic and anisotropic dielectric regions. In order to demonstrate the possibility of exploiting such 3D‐printed ceramics, a singly fed dual‐band circularly polarised DRA is presented. To achieve circular polarisation at both bands, the relative permittivity of the dielectric resonator is locally controlled by introducing anisotropic dielectric regions. The 3D‐printed DRA is finally measured, and its results agree well with the simulations.

Abstract

Summary: Background: No study has compared the virological and immunological status of young people with perinatally-acquired HIV infection (P-HIV) with that of people with HIV adulthood (A-HIV) having a similar duration of infection. Methods: 5 French cohorts of P-HIV and A-HIV patients with a known date of HIV-infection and receiving antiretroviral treatment (ART), were used to compare the following proportions of: virological failure (VF) defined as plasma HIV RNA ≥ 50 copies/mL, CD4 cell percentages and CD4:CD8 ratios, at the time of the most recent visit since 2012. The analysis was stratified on time since infection, and multivariate models were adjusted for demographics and treatment history. Findings: 310 P-HIV were compared to 1515 A-HIV (median current ages 20.9 [IQR:14.4–25.5] and 45.9 [IQR:37.9–53.5] respectively). VF at the time of the most recent evaluation was significantly higher among P-HIV (22.6%, 69/306) than A-HIV (3.3%, 50/1514); p ≤ 0.0001. The risk of VF was particularly high among the youngest children (2–5 years), adolescents (13–17 years) and young adults (18–24 years), compared to A-HIV with a similar duration of infection: adjusted Odds-Ratio (aOR) 7.0 [95% CI: 1.7; 30.0], 11.4 [4.2; 31.2] and 3.3 [1.0; 10.8] respectively. The level of CD4 cell percentages did not differ between P-HIV and A-HIV. P-HIV aged 6–12 and 13–17 were more likely than A-HIV to have a CD4:CD8 ratio ≥ 1: 84.1% vs. 58.8% (aOR = 3.5 [1.5; 8.3]), and 60.9% vs. 54.7% (aOR = 1.9 [0.9; 4.2]) respectively. Interpretation: P-HIV were at a higher risk of VF than A-HIV with a similar duration of infection, even after adjusting for treatment history, whereas they were not at a higher risk of immunological impairment. Exposure to viral replication among young patients living with HIV since birth or a very early age, probably because of lower adherence, could have an impact on health, raising major concerns about the selection of resistance mutations and the risk of HIV transmission. Abstract

Abstract In this letter, we study the design of three‐dimensional (3D)‐printed ceramics exhibiting anisotropic dielectric permittivities at microwave frequencies for dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) applications. The anisotropy is engineered by using periodic structures made up of subwavelength asymmetric unit cells filled with zirconia and air. Ceramic samples with uniaxial anisotropy are designed, 3D‐printed, and measured. Birefringence up to 8 is achieved by controlling the volume fill rate of the unit cell. Besides, a single‐fed circularly polarised (CP) DRA that relies on a 3‐D‐printed uniaxial anisotropic ceramic is proposed in the 2.45 GHz ISM band. Its simulated and measured reflection coefficient, axial ratio, and realised gain patterns are in good agreement, thus demonstrating the possibility of exploiting 3‐D‐printed anisotropic ceramics for DRA applications.

Abstract

We use near-infrared interferometric data coupled with trigonometric parallax values and spectral energy distribution fitting to directly determine stellar radii, effective temperatures, and luminosities for the exoplanet host stars 61 Vir, $\rho$ CrB, GJ 176, GJ 614, GJ 649, GJ 876, HD 1461, HD 7924, HD 33564, HD 107383, and HD 210702. Three of these targets are M dwarfs. Statistical uncertainties in the stellar radii and effective temperatures range from 0.5% -- 5% and from 0.2% -- 2%, respectively. For eight of these targets, this work presents the first directly determined values of radius and temperature; for the other three, we provide updates to their properties. The stellar fundamental parameters are used to estimate stellar mass and calculate the location and extent of each system's circumstellar habitable zone. Two of these systems have planets that spend at least parts of their respective orbits in the system habitable zone: two of GJ 876's four planets and the planet that orbits HD 33564. We find that our value for GJ 876's stellar radius is more than 20% larger than previous estimates and frequently used values in the astronomical literature., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, 4 tables, accepted for publication in MNRAS

Abstract

GJ 581 is an M dwarf host of a multiplanet system. We use long-baseline interferometric measurements from the CHARA Array, coupled with trigonometric parallax information, to directly determine its physical radius to be $0.299 \pm 0.010 R_{\odot}$. Literature photometry data are used to perform spectral energy distribution fitting in order to determine GJ 581's effective surface temperature $T_{\rm EFF}=3498 \pm 56$ K and its luminosity $L=0.01205 \pm 0.00024 L_{\odot}$. From these measurements, we recompute the location and extent of the system's habitable zone and conclude that two of the planets orbiting GJ 581, planets d and g, spend all or part of their orbit within or just on the edge of the habitable zone., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables; accepted for publication in ApJL

Abstract

Abstract Background The use of isavuconazole is approved for the management of invasive aspergillosis and mucormycosis, only in adults, as no paediatric pharmacology studies have been reported to date. Very few paediatric cases have been published concerning the use of isavuconazole. Amphotericin B is the only antifungal agent recommended in paediatric mucormycosis, but adverse effects and especially nephrotoxicity, even with the liposomal formulation, could be problematic. In this context, the use of other antifungal molecules active on Mucorales becomes needful. Case presentation We describe a case of mucormycosis with rapid onset dissemination in a 3-year-old girl recently diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukaemia. She was successfully treated with isavuconazole alone and then in combination with liposomal amphotericin B. Isavuconazole therapy was guided by therapeutic drug monitoring. Conclusions This case offers new perspectives on the potential use of isavuconazole in children with mucormycosis, as an alternative or adjunct to liposomal amphotericin B.

Abstract

The design of three‐dimensional (3D)‐printed heterogeneous ceramics exhibiting isotropic and anisotropic dielectric permittivities at microwave frequencies is studied for dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) applications. The heterogeneous ceramics are engineered by using periodic structures made up of subwavelength unit cells filled with zirconia ceramic and air. Ceramic stereolithography (CSLA) allows the 3D printing of a one‐piece ceramic block mixing isotropic and anisotropic dielectric regions. In order to demonstrate the possibility of exploiting such 3D‐printed ceramics, a singly fed dual‐band circularly polarised DRA is presented. To achieve circular polarisation at both bands, the relative permittivity of the dielectric resonator is locally controlled by introducing anisotropic dielectric regions. The 3D‐printed DRA is finally measured, and its results agree well with the simulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Asparaginase is an essential component of combination chemotherapy for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The value of asparaginase was further addressed in a group of non-very high-risk patients by comparing prolonged (long-asparaginase) versus standard (short-asparaginase) native E. coli asparaginase treatment in a randomized part of the phase III 58951 trial of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Children’s Leukemia Group. The main endpoint was disease-free survival. Overall, 1,552 patients were randomly assigned to long-asparaginase (775 patients) or short-asparaginase (777 patients). Patients with grade ≥2 allergy to native E. coli asparaginase were switched to equivalent doses of Erwinia or pegylated E. coli asparaginase. The 8-year disease-free survival rate (±standard error) was 87.0±1.3% in the long-asparaginase group and 84.4±1.4% in the short-asparaginase group (hazard ratio: 0.87; P=0.33) and the 8-year overall survival rate was 92.6±1.0% and 91.3±1.2% respectively (hazard ratio: 0.89; P=0.53). An exploratory analysis suggested that the impact of long-asparaginase was beneficial in the National Cancer Institute standard-risk group with regards to disease-free survival (hazard ratio: 0.70; P=0.057), but far less so with regards to overall survival (hazard ratio: 0.89). The incidences of grade 3–4 infection during consolidation (25.2% versus 14.4%) and late intensification (22.6% versus 15.9%) and the incidence of grade 2–4 allergy were higher in the long-asparaginase arm (30% versus 21%). Prolonged native E. coli asparaginase therapy in consolidation and late intensification for our non-very high-risk patients did not improve overall outcome but led to an increase in infections and allergy. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to evaluate the socio-economic outcomes of survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). METHODS: Childhood ALL adult survivors, enrolled in EORTC trials between 1971 and 1998 in France and Belgium, were invited to fill out a questionnaire with information about their socio-economic situation (living with a partner, having a university degree, having a job, working part time and history of having a paid job). The outcomes were compared with two matched control populations. RESULTS: Among 1418 eligible patients, 507 (35.8%) participated, including 39 (8%) and 61 (12%) patients who received a haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and a cranial radiotherapy (CRT), respectively. The median time to follow-up was 20 years, and median age was 25 years. Survivors showed a socio-economic level at least as good as controls. HCST and CRT were associated with a higher probability of not obtaining a bachelor degree (respectively OR = 3.49, 95% CI: 1.46-8.35 and OR = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.04-5.15), HSCT was associated with unemployment (OR = 2.89, 95% CI: 1.09-7.65) and having a relapse was associated with a higher probability of not having a partner (OR = 1.88, 95% CI: 1.01-3.51) adjusting for confounders. CONCLUSION: Childhood ALL survivors showed a high level of socio-economic participation. HCST and CRT were associated with poorer functioning.

Abstract

This paper proposes a new full-metal unit cell for reflectarray antenna for space applications. It can be scaled to operate from X-band to Ka-band with the same manufacturing process. In this paper, An X-band 3-panel reflectarray for small satellite has been designed in this paper. The reflectarray has been simulated on the [8-8.4] GHz band and shows a good stability on the band. The maximum gain is 28 dB and the half-power beamwidth is 8°.

Abstract

Palladium platinum (PdPt) has been intensively studied these last decades due to high conversion rate in hydrogen oxidation at room temperature with significant exothermic effects. These remarkable properties have been studied by measuring the temperature variations of alumina (Al2O3) supported nanosized PdPt nanoparticles exposed to different hydrogen concentrations in dry air. This catalyst is expected to be used as a sensing material for stable and reversible ultrasensitive hydrogen sensors working at room temperature (low power consumption). Structural and gas sensing characterisations and catalytic activity of PdPt / Al2O3 systems synthesised by co-impregnation will be presented. Catalytic characterisations show that the system is already active at room temperature and that this activity sharply increases with rise in temperature. Moreover, the increase of the PdPt proportion in the co-impregnation process improves the activity, and very high conversion can be reached even at room temperature. The thermal response (about 3 °C) of only 1 mg of PdPt / Al2O3 is reversible, and the time response is about 5 s. The integration of PdPt / Al2O3 powder on a flat substrate has been realised by the deposition onto the powder of a thin porous hydrophobic layer of parylene. The possibility of using PdPt in gas sensors will be discussed.

Abstract

L’étude de plusieurs manuscrits médiévaux dits ‘de théâtre’ fait apparaître que la mise en recueil des textes au Moyen Âge est généralement sous-tendue par un projet édifiant. Tandis que l’ordonnancement des Mystères de la procession de Lille, conservés dans le ms. Guelf. 9 Blankenburg, témoigne du projet didactique et édifiant du maître d’œuvre du recueil, l’étude du ms. 57 de la Bibliothèque Municipale de Rodez, qui mêle le Mystère de l’Ascension de la Vierge à des textes non dramatiques, montre que le volume a été conçu comme un livre de méditation. Enfin, l’analyse du ms. Condé 616, qui ne contient que le Mystère de la Conception de Nostre Dame par parsonages, tend à démontrer que le travail de compilation qui est à l’origine de cette pièce peut être envisagé comme une forme particulière de mise en recueil propre à l’écriture dramatique.

Abstract

International audience; In this paper, a cross-shaped dielectric resonator antenna arranged in a stacked configuration is proposed to realize a Huygens source in circular polarization at 2.45 GHz ISM band. The antenna principle relies on the combination of two pairs of orthogonal electric and magnetic dipoles. The antenna is designed and optimized with numerical analysis using far-field simulations in Ansys HFSS. It finally has a radiation pattern oriented in one half-space without the use of a ground plane.

Abstract

DNA copy number analysis has been instrumental for the identification of genetic alterations in B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Notably, some of these genetic defects have been associated with poor treatment outcome and might be relevant for future risk stratification. In this study, we characterized recurrent deletions of CD200 and BTLA genes, mediated by recombination-activating genes, and used breakpoint-specific polymerase chain reaction assay to screen a cohort of 1154 cases of B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia uniformly treated according to the EORTC-CLG 58951 protocol.
