Abstract: Abstract We report measurements of the e + e − → B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ , B B ¯ ∗ $$ B{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ , and B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ cross sections at four energies, 10653, 10701, 10746 and 10805 MeV, using data collected by the Belle II experiment. We reconstruct one B meson in a large number of hadronic final states and use its momentum to identify the production process. In the first 2 – 5 MeV above B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ threshold, the e + e − → B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ cross section increases rapidly. This may indicate the presence of a pole close to the threshold.

Abstract: Abstract We report results from a study of B ± → DK ± decays followed by D decaying to the CP-even final state K + K − and CP-odd final state K S 0 π 0 $$ {K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , where D is an admixture of D 0 and D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ states. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angle ϕ 3. The results are based on a combined analysis of the final data set of 772 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and a data set of 198 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment, both in electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance. We measure the CP asymmetries to be A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP+ = (+12.5 ± 5.8 ± 1.4)% and A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP− = (−16.7 ± 5.7 ± 0.6)%, and the ratios of branching fractions to be R $$ \mathcal{R} $$ CP+ = 1.164 ± 0.081 ± 0.036 and R $$ \mathcal{R} $$ CP− = 1.151 ± 0.074 ± 0.019. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP+ and A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP− have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5 standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3% confidence intervals of (8.5 ° < ϕ 3 < 16.5 ° ) or (84.5 ° < ϕ 3 < 95.5 ° ) or (163.3 ° < ϕ 3 < 171.5 ° ) and 0.321 < r B < 0.465.

Abstract: Abstract We measure CP asymmetries and branching-fraction ratios for B ± → DK ± and Dπ ± decays with D → K S 0 $$ {K}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ K ± π ∓, where D is a superposition of D 0 and D ¯ $$ \overline{D} $$ 0. We use the full data set of the Belle experiment, containing 772 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs, and data from the Belle II experiment, containing 387 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs, both collected in electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance. Our results provide model-independent information on the unitarity triangle angle ϕ 3.

Abstract: Abstract We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle ϕ 3 (also known as γ) using a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis of B + → D ( K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ h + h − )h +, where D is either a D 0 or D ¯ $$ \overline{D} $$ 0 meson and h is either a π or K. This is the first measurement that simultaneously uses Belle and Belle II data, combining samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of 711 fb −1 and 128 fb −1, respectively. All data were accumulated from energy-asymmetric e + e − collisions at a centre-of-mass energy corresponding to the mass of the Υ(4S) resonance. We measure ϕ 3 = (78.4 ± 11.4 ± 0.5 ± 1.0)°, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is from the uncertainties on external measurements of the D-decay strong-phase parameters.

6. Investigating the intracluster medium viscosity using the tails of GASP jellyfish galaxies

Abstract: The microphysics of the intracluster medium (ICM) in galaxy clusters is still poorly understood. Observational evidence suggests that the effective viscosity is suppressed by plasma instabilities that reduce the mean free path of particles. Measuring the effective viscosity of the ICM is crucial to understanding the processes that govern its physics on small scales. The trails of ionized interstellar medium left behind by the so-called jellyfish galaxies can trace the turbulent motions of the surrounding ICM and constrain its local viscosity. We present the results of a systematic analysis of the velocity structure function (VSF) of the H$\alpha$ line for ten galaxies from the GASP sample. The VSFs show a sub-linear power law scaling below 10 kpc which may result from turbulent cascading and extends to 1 kpc, below the supposed ICM dissipation scales of tens of kpc expected in a fluid described by Coulomb collisions. Our result constrains the local ICM viscosity to be 0.3-25$\%$ of the expected Spitzer value. Our findings demonstrate that either the ICM particles have a smaller mean free path than expected in a regime defined by Coulomb collisions, or that we are probing effects due to collisionless physics in the ICM turbulence., Comment: 24 pages, 14 figures, accepted for publication on ApJ on 11/11/2024

7. Radio-FIR correlation- A probe into cosmic ray propagation in the nearby galaxy IC 342

Abstract: Resolved studies of the correlation between the radio and far-infrared (FIR) emission from galaxies at different frequencies can unveil the interplay between star formation and relativistic interstellar medium (ISM). Thanks to the LOFAR LoTSS observations combined with the VLA, Herschel, and WISE data, we study the role of the cosmic rays and magnetic fields in the radio-FIR correlation on scales of ~> 200 pc in the nearby galaxy IC342. The thermal emission traced by the 22 micron emission, constitutes about 6%, 13%, and 30% of the observed radio emission at 0.14, 1.4, 4.8 GHz, respectively, in star forming regions and less in other parts. The nonthermal spectral index becomes flatter at frequencies lower than 1.4 GHz (a=-0.51 +- 0.09, S(nu)~ nu^(a)) than between 1.4 and 4.8 GHz (a = -1.06+- 0.19) on average and this flattening occurs not only in star-forming regions but also in diffuse ISM. The radio-FIR correlation holds at all radio frequencies; however, it is tighter at higher radio frequencies. A multi-scale analysis shows that this correlation cannot be maintained on small scales due to diffusion of cosmic ray electrons (CREs). The correlation breaks on a larger scale (320 pc) at 0.14 GHz than at 1.4 GHz (200 pc) indicating that those CREs traced at lower frequencies have diffused a longer path in the ISM. We find that the energy index of CREs becomes flatter in star forming regions in agreement with previous studies. Cooling of CREs due to the magnetic field is evident globally only after compensating for the effect of star formation activity which both accelerate CREs and amplify magnetic fields. Compared with other nearby galaxies, it is shown that the smallest scale of the radio-FIR correlation is proportional to the CREs propagation length on which the ordered magnetic field has an important effect., Comment: 22 pages, 15 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics Journal

Abstract: In this work, we investigate the local effects of a single short-range impurity on the electron system of a short ballistic graphene Josephson Junction. Within the Dirac-Bogoliubov-De Gennes approach, we systematically analyze the local density states, whose subgap energy dependence enables us to distinguish between elastic and inelastic scattering processes and identify the magnetic nature of the impurity. Furthermore, we observe that the spatial dependence of the local density of states is a sensitive probe of the microscopic processes resulting in subgap impurity-induced bound states. Abstract: The aim of this study is to probe the sub-mJy polarized source population with LOFAR. We present the method used to stack LOFAR polarization datasets, the resulting catalog of polarized sources, and the derived polarized source counts. The ELAIS-N1 field was selected for a polarimetric study at 114.9-177.4 MHz. A total area of 25 deg2 was imaged at 6"- resolution in the Stokes Q and U parameters. Alignment of polarization angles was done both in frequency and in Faraday space before stacking datasets from 19 eight-hour-long epochs. A search for polarized sources was carried out in the final, stacked dataset, and the properties of the detected sources were examined. The depolarization level of sources known to be polarized at 1.4 GHz was quantified. A one-sigma noise level of 19 {\mu}Jy/beam was reached in the central part of the field after stacking. Twenty-five polarized sources were detected above 8\sigma, five of which had not been detected in polarization at any other radio frequencies before. Seven additional polarized components were found by lowering the threshold to 6\sigma at positions corresponding to sources known to be polarized at 1.4 GHz. In two radio galaxies, polarization was detected from both radio lobes, so the final number of associated radio continuum sources is 31. The detected sources are weakly polarized, with a median degree of polarization of 1.75% for the sample of sources detected in polarized emission. The sources previously detected in polarization at 1.4 GHz are significantly depolarized at 150 MHz. The catalog is used to derive the polarized source counts at 150 MHz. Abstract: Radio continuum emission from galaxies at gigahertz frequencies can be used as an extinction-free tracer of star formation. However, at frequencies of a few hundred megahertz, there is evidence for low-frequency spectral flattening. We wish to better understand the origin of this low-frequency flattening and, to this end, perform a spatially resolved study of the nearby spiral galaxy M 51. We explore the different effects that can cause flattening of the spectrum towards lower frequencies, such as free-free absorption and cosmic-ray ionisation losses. We used radio continuum intensity maps between 54 and 8350 MHz at eight different frequencies, with observations at 240 MHz from the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope presented for the first time. We corrected for contribution from thermal free-free emission using an H$\alpha$ map that has been extinction-corrected with 24 $\mu$m data. We fitted free-free absorption models to the radio spectra to determine the emission measure (EM) as well as polynomial functions to measure the non-thermal spectral curvature. The non-thermal low-frequency radio continuum spectrum between 54 and 144 MHz is very flat and even partially inverted, particularly in the spiral arms; contrary, the spectrum at higher frequencies shows the typical non-thermal radio continuum spectrum. However, we do not find any correlation between the EMs calculated from radio and from H$\alpha$ observations; instead, the non-thermal spectral curvature weakly correlates with the HI gas mass surface density. This suggests that cosmic-ray ionisation losses play an important role in the low-frequency spectral flattening. The observed spectral flattening towards low frequencies in M 51 is caused by a combination of ionisation losses and free-free absorption. The reasons for this flattening need to be understood in order to use sub-GHz frequencies as a star-formation tracer.

Abstract: We report measurements of the $e^+e^- \to B\bar{B}$, $B\bar{B}{}^*$, and $B^*\bar{B}{}^*$ cross sections at four energies, 10653, 10701, 10746 and 10805 MeV, using data collected by the Belle~II experiment. We reconstruct one $B$ meson in a large number of hadronic final states and use its momentum to identify the production process. In the first $2-5$ MeV above $B^*\bar{B}{}^*$ threshold, the $e^+e^- \to B^*\bar{B}{}^*$ cross section increases rapidly. Beyond data, from our shared personal experiences as female tenured quantum physics professors, we believe that the current model of scientific leadership, funding, and authority fails to represent many of us. It is time for a real change that calls for a different kind of force and for the participation of everyone. Women for quantum calls for a joint effort and aims with this initiative to contribute to such a transformation.

13. Noise classification in small quantum networks by Machine Learning

Abstract: We investigate machine learning-based noise classification aimed at the recognition of the Markovian character of a dynamics and the identification of correlations of classical noise, as well as their interplay in small quantum networks. We operate control based on Coherent Tunneling by Adiabatic Passage (CTAP) or Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage (STIRAP) in a three-level system using different pulse configurations as inputs to train a feedforward neural network. Our results show that supervised learning can classify distinct types of classical diagonal noise affecting the system. Three non-Markovian (quasistatic correlated, anti-correlated, and uncorrelated) and Markovian noise mechanisms are classified with $99\%$ accuracy. Instead, correlations of Markovian noises cannot be classified with our method. The approach is robust against statistical measurement errors keeping its effectiveness even for physical measurements where a limited number of samples is available., Comment: 24 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: La provincia de La Pampa de estructura productiva eminentemente agropecuaria, ve restringida su expansión por una limitante hídrica. A principios de la década del 60 se han iniciado estudios y obras tendiendo al aprovechamiento del principal recurso hídrico de la provincia, el Río Colorado. Desde el comienzo los trabajos se centraron en la zona de Colonia 25 de Mayo, y es allí donde están concentradas la mayor cantidad de obras civiles qué exigen un aprovechamiento racional. A través del CFI se contrató un estudio de revisión y actualización del sistema. Desde el punto de vista agrícola se indicó que: - Algunas áreas deberán seguir con el planteo frutihortícola tradicional, fundamentalmente debido al tamaño de la explotación que hace difícil ensayar otras alternativas de producción. - En nuevas áreas se sugiere la producción de cereales, oleaginosas, producción animal, multiplicación de semillas y también frutihorticultura. Del análisis del trabajo de las Empresas Consultoras se consideró: a) Existen importantes limitantes edificas por lo que es necesario otorgar una prioridad de uso de los mejores suelos e investigar para lograr un adecuado manejo de las clases de inferior calidad; b) en materia de riego por aspersión es importante experimentar para adecuar los equipos a las contingencias de la zona; c) investigar en producción de forrajeras a efectos de evaluar disponibilidad y calidad de las pasturas; d) asegurar un buen nivel de oferta de terneros para garantizar una adecuada rentabilidad del sistema; e) Analizar la producción tambera como alternativa interesante para la zona. 18. A unified diagrammatic approach to quantum transport in few-level junctions for bosonic and fermionic reservoirs: Application to the quantum Rabi model

Abstract: We apply the Nakajima-Zwanzig approach to open quantum systems to study steady-state transport across generic multi-level junctions coupled to bosonic or fermionic reservoirs. The method allows for a unified diagrammatic formulation in Liouville space, with diagrams being classified according to an expansion in the coupling strength between the reservoirs and the junction. Analytical, approximate expressions are provided up to fourth order for the steady-state boson transport that generalize to multi-level systems the known results for the low-temperature thermal conductance in the spin-boson model. The formalism is applied to the problem of heat transport in a qubit-resonator junction modeled by the quantum Rabi model. Nontrivial transport features emerge as a result of the interplay between the qubit-oscillator detuning and coupling strength. For quasi-degenerate spectra, nonvanishing steady-state coherences cause a suppression of the thermal conductance.

19. Heat transport in the quantum Rabi model: Universality and ultrastrong coupling effects

Abstract: Heat transport in the quantum Rabi model at weak interaction with the heat baths is controlled by the qubit-oscillator coupling. Universality of the linear conductance versus the temperature is found for $T\lesssim T_K$, with $T_K$ a coupling-dependent Kondo-like temperature. At low temperature, coherent heat transfer via virtual processes yields a $\sim T^3$ behavior with destructive interference in the presence of quasi-degeneracies in the spectrum. As the temperature increases, incoherent emission and absorption dominate and a maximum is reached at $T\sim T_K/2$. In the presence of a bias on the qubit, the conductance makes a transition from a resonant to a broad, zero-bias peak regime. Parallels and differences are found compared to the spin-boson model in [K. Saito and T. Kato, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{111}, 214301 (2013)], where the qubit-bath coupling instead of the internal qubit-oscillator coupling rules thermal transport.

Abstract: We report a measurement of decay-time dependent charge-parity ($CP$) asymmetries in $B^0 \rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S K^0_S$ decays. We use $387 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. We reconstruct 220 signal events and extract the $CP$-violating parameters $S$ and $C$ from a fit to the distribution of the decay-time difference between the two $B$ mesons. The resulting confidence region is consistent with previous measurements in $B^0 \rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S K^0_S$ and $B^0 \rightarrow (c\bar{c})K^0$ decays, and with predictions based on the standard model., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: Fundamental issues of 1/f noise in quantum nanoscience are reviewed starting from basic statistical noise processes. Fundamental noise models based on two-level systems (TLS) are described. We emphasize the importance of TLSs in materials parameter fluctuations, such as dielectric constant. The present understanding of 1/f noise in superconducting quantum interferometers and in single electron devices is summarized. For coherent quantum nanoscience, we introduce superconducting qubits and the relation between decoherence and 1/f noise using the filter function formulation. We also clarify the qubit noise spectroscopy and emphasize the importance of materials with reduced 1/f noise for future quantum coherent nanodevices., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Quantum control techniques represent one of the most efficient tools to attain high-fidelity quantum operations and a convenient approach for quantum sensing and quantum noise spectroscopy. In this work, we investigate dynamical decoupling while processing an entangling two-qubit gate based on an Ising-xx interaction, each qubit being affected by pure dephasing classical correlated 1/ f -noises. To evaluate the gate error, we used the Magnus expansion introducing generalized filter functions that describe decoupling while processing and allow us to derive an approximate analytic expression as a hierarchy of nested integrals of noise cumulants. The error is separated in contributions of Gaussian and non-Gaussian noise, the corresponding generalized filter functions being calculated up to the fourth order. By exploiting the properties of selected pulse sequences, we show that it is possible to extract the second-order statistics (spectrum and cross-spectrum) and to highlight non-Gaussian features contained in the fourth-order cumulant. We discuss the applicability of these results to state-of-the-art small networks based on solid-state platforms., Comment: 19 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: The ratio of branching fractions $R(D^{*}) = \mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \rightarrow D^{*} \tau^{-} \overline{\nu}_{\tau})$/$\mathcal{B} (\overline{B} \rightarrow D^{*} \ell^{-} \overline{\nu}_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ is an electron or muon, is measured using a Belle~II data sample with an integrated luminosity of $189~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+} e^{-}$ collider. Data is collected at the $\Upsilon(\mathrm{4S})$ resonance, and one $B$ meson in the $\Upsilon(\mathrm{4S})\rightarrow B\overline{B}$ decay is fully reconstructed in hadronic decay modes. The accompanying signal $B$ meson is reconstructed as $\overline{B}\rightarrow D^{*} \tau^{-}\overline{\nu}_{\tau}$ using leptonic $\tau$ decays. The normalization decay, $\overline{B}\rightarrow D^{*} \ell^{-} \overline{\nu}_{\ell}$, where $\ell$ is an electron or muon, produces the same observable final state particles. The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields $R(D^{*}) = 0.262~_{-0.039}^{+0.041}(\mathrm{stat})~_{-0.032}^{+0.035}(\mathrm{syst})$. Abstract: Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are millisecond-duration, bright ($\sim$Jy) extragalactic bursts, whose production mechanism is still unclear. Recently, two repeating FRBs were found to have a physically associated persistent radio source of non-thermal origin. These two FRBs have unusually large Faraday rotation measure values likely tracing a dense magneto-ionic medium, consistent with synchrotron radiation originating from a nebula surrounding the FRB source. Recent theoretical arguments predict that, if the observed Faraday rotation measure mostly arises from the persistent radio source region, there should be a simple relation between the luminosity of the latter and the first. We report here the detection of a third, less luminous persistent radio source associated with the repeating FRB source FRB20201124A at a distance of 413 Mpc, significantly expanding the predicted relation into the low luminosity - low Faraday rotation measure regime ($<$1000 rad m-2). At lower values of the Faraday rotation measure, the expected radio luminosity falls below the limit of detection threshold for present-day radio telescopes. These findings support the idea that the persistent radio sources observed so far are generated by a nebula in the FRB environment, and that FRBs with low Faraday rotation measure may not show a persistent radio source because of a weaker magneto-ionic medium. This is generally consistent with models invoking a young magnetar as the central engine of the FRB, where the surrounding ionized nebula - or the interacting shock in a binary system - powers the persistent radio source., Comment: Accepted for publication on Nature

Abstract: We search for the $e^+e^-\to\eta_b(1S)\omega$ and $e^+e^-\to\chi_{b0}(1P)\omega$ processes at a center-of-mass energy of 10.745 GeV, which is close to the peak of the $\Upsilon(10753)$ state. We use data collected by the Belle II experiment during a special run, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9.8\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. We reconstruct $\omega\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ decays and use the $\omega$ meson's recoil mass to search for the signals. We do not find evidence for either process, and set upper limits on the corresponding Born-level cross sections of 2.5 pb and 7.8 pb, respectively, at the 90% confidence level. Abstract: We search for the rare decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}\nu\bar{\nu}$ in a $362\ \rm{fb}^{-1}$ sample of electron-positron collisions at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use the inclusive properties of the accompanying $B$ meson in $\Upsilon(4S) \to B\kern 0.18em\overline{\kern -0.18em B}{}$ events to suppress background from other decays of the signal $B$ candidate and light-quark pair production. We validate the measurement with an auxiliary analysis based on a conventional hadronic reconstruction of the accompanying $B$ meson. For background suppression, we exploit distinct signal features using machine learning methods tuned with simulated data. The signal-reconstruction efficiency and background suppression are validated through various control channels. The branching fraction is extracted in a maximum likelihood fit. Our inclusive and hadronic analyses yield consistent results for the $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}\nu\bar{\nu}$ branching fraction of $\left[2.7\pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat})\pm 0.5(\mathrm{syst})\right] \times 10^{-5}$ and $\left[1.1^{+0.9}_{-0.8}(\mathrm{stat}){}^{+0.8}_{-0.5}(\mathrm{syst})\right] \times 10^{-5}$, respectively. Combining the results, we determine the branching fraction of the decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}\nu\bar{\nu}$ to be $\left[2.3 \pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat})^{+0.5}_{-0.4}(\mathrm{syst})\right]\times 10^{-5}$, providing the first evidence for this decay at $3.5$ standard deviations. Abstract: The occurrence of a second-order superradiant quantum phase transition is brought to light in a quantum system consisting of two interacting qubits coupled to the same quantized field mode. We introduce an appropriate thermodynamic-like limit for the integrable two-qubit quantum Rabi model with spin-spin interaction. Namely, it is determined by the infinite ratios of the spin-spin and the spin-mode couplings to the mode frequency, regardless of the spin-to-mode frequency ratios.

Abstract: We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct $\it{CP}$ asymmetries of the decays $B^0 \to K^+ \pi^-$, $B^+ \to K^+ \pi^0$, $B^+ \to K^0 \pi^+$, and $B^0 \to K^0 \pi^0$, and use these for testing the standard model through an isospin-based sum rule. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct $\it{CP}$ asymmetry of the decay $B^+ \to \pi^+\pi^0$ and the branching fraction of the decay $B^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-$. The data are collected with the Belle II detector from $e^+e^-$ collisions at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain $387\times 10^6$ bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain $-0.03 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.04$ for the sum rule, in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations.

Abstract: We determine the CKM matrix-element magnitude $|V_{cb}|$ using $\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\bar\nu_\ell$ decays reconstructed in $189 \, \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of collision data collected by the Belle II experiment, located at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. Partial decay rates are reported as functions of the recoil parameter $w$ and three decay angles separately for electron and muon final states. We obtain $|V_{cb}|$ using the Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed and Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert parametrizations, and find $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{BGL}=(40.57\pm 0.31 \pm 0.95\pm 0.58)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{CLN}=(40.13 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.93\pm 0.58 )\times 10^{-3}$ with the uncertainties denoting statistical components, systematic components, and components from the lattice QCD input, respectively. The branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal B}(\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\bar\nu_\ell)=(4.922 \pm 0.023 \pm 0.220)\%$. The ratio of branching fractions for electron and muon final states is found to be $0.998 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.020$. In addition, we determine the forward-backward angular asymmetry and the $D^{*+}$ longitudinal polarization fractions. All results are compatible with lepton-flavor universality in the Standard Model.

Abstract: Hilbert's Tenth Problem (H10) for a ring R asks for an algorithm to decide correctly, for each $f\in\mathbb{Z}[X_{1},\dots,X_{n}]$, whether the diophantine equation $f(X_{1},...,X_{n})=0$ has a solution in R. The celebrated `Davis-Putnam-Robinson-Matiyasevich theorem' shows that {\bf H10} for $\mathbb{Z}$ is unsolvable, i.e.~there is no such algorithm. Since then, Hilbert's Tenth Problem has been studied in a wide range of rings and fields. Most importantly, for {number fields and in particular for $\mathbb{Q}$}, H10 is still an unsolved problem. Recent work of Eisentr\"ager, Poonen, Koenigsmann, Park, Dittmann, Daans, and others, has dramatically pushed forward what is known in this area, and has made essential use of local-global principles for quadratic forms, and for central simple algebras. We give a concise survey and introduction to this particular rich area of interaction between logic and number theory, without assuming a detailed background of either subject. We also sketch two further directions of future research, one inspired by model theory and one by arithmetic geometry.

We analyse the spatially resolved radio continuum-star-formation rate (radio-SFR) relation in 15 nearby galaxies using data from the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR) and the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) at 144 and 1365 MHz, respectively. The hybrid SFR maps are based on observations with Spitzer at 24 $ {\mu}$m and with GALEX at 156 nm. Our pixel-by-pixel analysis at 1.2 kpc resolution reveals the usual sublinear radio-SFR relation for local measurements which can be linearised with a smoothing experiment, convolving the hybrid SFR map with a Gaussian kernel that provides us with the CRE transport length. Results. CRE transport can be described as energy-independent isotropic diffusion. If we consider only young CREs as identified with the radio spectral index, we find a linear relation showing the influence of cosmic-ray transport. We then define the CRE calorimetric efficiency as the ratio of radio-to-hybrid SFR surface density and show that it is a function of the radio spectral index. If we correct the radio-SFR relation for the CRE calorimetric efficiency parametrised with the radio spectral index, it becomes nearly linear with a slope of $1.01\pm 0.02$ independent of frequency. Abstract: We report on the serendipitous discovery of an unprecedented interaction between the radio lobe of a radio galaxy and a spiral galaxy. The discovery was made thanks to LOFAR observations at 144 MHz of the galaxy cluster Abell 160 ($z=0.04317$) provided by the LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey. The new low-frequency observations revealed that one of the radio plumes of the central galaxy GIN 049 overlaps with the spiral galaxy JO36. Previous studies carried out with MUSE revealed that the warm ionized gas in the disk of JO36, traced by the H$\alpha$ emission, is severely truncated with respect to the stellar disk. We further explore this unique system by including new uGMRT observations at 675 MHz to map the spectral index. The emerging scenario is that JO36 has interacted with the radio plume in the past 200-500 Myr. The encounter resulted in a positive feedback event for JO36 in the form of a star formation rate burst of $\sim14$ $M_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$. In turn, the galaxy passage left a trace in the radio-old plasma by re-shaping the old relativistic plasma via magnetic draping., Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures. 44. The evolution of the cold gas fraction in nearby clusters ram-pressure stripped galaxies

Abstract: Cluster galaxies are affected by the surrounding environment, which influences, in particular, their gas, stellar content and morphology. In particular, the ram-pressure exerted by the intracluster medium promotes the formation of multi-phase tails of stripped gas detectable both at optical wavelengths and in the sub-mm and radio regimes, tracing the cold molecular and atomic gas components, respectively. In this work we analyze a sample of sixteen galaxies belonging to clusters at redshift $\sim 0.05$ showing evidence of an asymmetric HI morphology (based on MeerKAT observations) with and without a star forming tail. To this sample we add three galaxies with evidence of a star forming tail and no HI detection. Here we present the galaxies $\rm H_{2}$ gas content from APEX observations of the CO(2-1) emission. We find that in most galaxies with a star forming tail the $\rm H_{2}$ global content is enhanced with respect to undisturbed field galaxies with similar stellar masses, suggesting an evolutionary path driven by the ram-pressure stripping. As galaxies enter into the clusters their HI is displaced but also partially converted into $\rm H_{2}$, so that they are $\rm H_{2}$ enriched when they pass close to the pericenter, i. e. when they develop the star forming tails that are visible in UV/B broad bands and in H$\alpha$ emission. An inspection of the phase-space diagram for our sample suggests an anticorrelation between the HI and $\rm H_{2}$ gas phases as galaxies fall into the cluster potential. Abstract: We report results from a study of $B^\pm \rightarrow DK^\pm$ decays followed by $D$ decaying to $CP$~eigenstates, where $D$ indicates a $D^0$ or $\bar{D}^{0}$ meson. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angle $\phi_{3}$. The results are based on a combined analysis of the final data set of $772 \times 10^6~B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and a data set of $198 \times 10^6~B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle~II experiment, both in electron-positron collisions at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. We measure the $CP$ asymmetries to be $\mathcal{ A}_{CP +} =~(+12.5 \pm 5.8 \pm 1.4)\% $ and $\mathcal{ A}_{CP -} =~(-16.7 \pm 5.7 \pm 0.6)\%$, and the ratios of branching fractions to be $\mathcal{ R}_{CP+}=~1.164 \pm 0.081 \pm 0.036 $ and $\mathcal{ R}_{CP-} =~1.151 \pm 0.074 \pm 0.019$. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries $\mathcal{A}_{CP +}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP -}$ have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5~standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3\% confidence intervals of ($8.5^{\circ}<\phi_{3}<16.5^{\circ}$) or ($84.5^{\circ}<\phi_{3}<95.5^{\circ}$) or ($163.3^{\circ}<\phi_{3}<171.5^{\circ}$) and $0.321

Abstract: We present the first comprehensive tests of light-lepton universality in the angular distributions of semileptonic $B^0$-meson decays to charged spin-1 charmed mesons. We measure five angular-asymmetry observables as functions of the decay recoil that are sensitive to lepton-universality-violating contributions. We use events where one neutral $B$ is fully reconstructed in $\Upsilon\left(4S\right)\to{}B \overline{B}$ decays in data corresponding to $189~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. We find no significant deviation from the standard model expectations.

Abstract: We present a measurement of time-dependent rate asymmetries in $B^0\to \phi K^0_S$ decays to search for non-standard-model physics in $b\to q \overline{q}s$ transitions. The data sample is collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider in 2019-2022 and contains $(387\pm 6)\times 10^6$ bottom-antibottom mesons from $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance decays. We reconstruct $162\pm17$ signal events and extract the charge-parity ($CP$) violating parameters from a fit to the distribution of the proper-decay-time difference of the two $B$ mesons. The measured direct and mixing-induced $CP$ asymmetries are $A=0.31\pm0.20\pm0.05$ and $S=0.54\pm0.26^{+0.06}_{-0.08}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The results are compatible with the $CP$ asymmetries observed in $b\to c\overline{c} s$ transitions.

Abstract: We report the first search for a non-standard-model resonance decaying into $\tau$ pairs in $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow \mu^{+}\mu^{-} \tau^+\tau^-$ events in the 3.6-10 GeV/$c^{2}$ mass range. We use a 62.8 fb$^{-1}$ sample of $e^+e^-$ collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The analysis probes three different models predicting a spin-1 particle coupling only to the heavier lepton families, a Higgs-like spin-0 particle that couples preferentially to charged leptons (leptophilic scalar), and an axion-like particle, respectively. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into $\tau$ pairs, ranging from 0.7 fb to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/$c^2$ and for the axion-like particle model over the entire mass range.

50. Integrated conversion and photodetection of virtual photons in an ultrastrongly coupled superconducting quantum circuit

Abstract: The ground-state of an artificial atom ultrastrongly coupled to quantized modes is entangled and contains an arbitrary number of virtual photons. The problem of their detection has been raised since the very birth of the field but despite the theoretical efforts still awaits experimental demonstration. Recently experimental problems have been addressed in detail showing that they can be overcome by combining an unconventional design of the artificial atom with advanced coherent control. In this work we study a simple scheme of control-integrated continuous measurement which makes remarkably favourable the tradeoff between measurement efficiency and backaction showing that the unambiguous detection of virtual photons can be achieved within state-of-the art quantum technologies., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures
