An incompressible two-dimensional laminar flow of micropolar fluid subjected to a stretched surface is examined. The steady-state thermally radiative flow experiences the influence of melting phenomenon. The dimensionalized flow model for axi-symmetric flow is governed through similarity variables. Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg (RKF-45) method is applied to the finalized non-linear governing equations to obtain the numerical solutions. The graphical depictions on flow and thermal profiles are discussed along with the numeric values of couple stresses, shear stresses, and heat transfer rate. Regression analysis is used to study how the parameters affected the variables. The results indicated that the micropolar parameter turned to rotate the liquid particles in reverse way. The rotational effects are significant away from the surface of disk as comparative to the disk vicinity area. The magnitude of the axial velocity field and temperature profiles are declined by the melting phenomenon. The vortex viscosity parameter and magnetic parameter have been found to have a significant effect on understudy variables.

In the recent era of science and technology scientists have influenced by the hybridization of nanofluids due to their advanced thermophysical features. Hybrid nanofluids have superior response to thermal conductivity than any other conventional nanofluids. Therefore, the present study investigates the Bödewadt flow of hybrid nanoliquid above a stretchable static disk located in the plane z=0. Bödewadt flow describes a stable and uniform angular rotation of liquid at a higher distance from the static disk. Such flow is characterized through pressure gradient in radial direction and is balanced with centrifugal forces. An incompressible homogeneous electrically conducting flow occupies its space at z≥0. Hybrid nanofluid is a mixture of nanoparticles Cu (copper) and TiO2 (titanium dioxide) with water considered as a base-fluid. Titanium dioxide reveals excellent photo catalytic attributes and hence is implemented in antibacterial/antiseptic compositions. Moreover, copper nano-ingredients metallic particles suggest suitable dye diminution and catalytic potential properties. Hall effect is encountered in the momentum equations to measure the magnetic field while radiation term is considered to address the energy analysis. The convective flow phenomenon is normalized by executing similarity functions. The reduced governing system is then solved in numerical manner using Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg (RKF-45) procedure. The flow phenomenon on velocity and thermal fields is discussed in graphical way. Three-dimensional flow visualization with two-dimensional contours and streamlines are portrayed as well. Moreover, the numeric data of local-Nusselt number shear stresses is computed against selected values of the physical parameters. The modification in Hall current magnifies the radial velocity field and reduces the velocity field along axial direction. The temperature field is enhanced by the increased variations in heat transfer Biot number. The influence of volume fractions results in modification of thermal profiles.

This study was conducted to find the relationship of test-anxiety, emotional intelligence and academic performance of public private sector university students. A sample of 388 students, 194 male and 194 females was drawn through convenient sampling from the Public and Private universities of Karachi in Pakistan, using a cross sectional design. Test anxiety was assessed through Westside Test Anxiety Scale and emotional intelligence was assessed using The Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale. Performance of the last two semesters attended by the students was used to assess academic performance and demographic information was gathered through the demographic form. The "Pearson Product Correlation" was calculated to find the relation between test anxiety and emotional intelligence and academic performance. t-test for independent sample was used to obtain the differences in test-anxiety and emotional intelligence and gender in Public and Private sector university students' academic performance on the respective variables. The results revealed an inverse relationship between test-anxiety and emotional intelligence, academic performance. However, the results showed a positive relation between emotional intelligence and academic performance. Gender differences were found in test anxiety but not in emotional intelligence. The students of both the sectors differed in test anxiety, whereas both the groups did not differ on the scores of emotional intelligence. It is incumbent on educational institutes to provide psychological services to students who find it hard to handle exam situations in the same way as financial assistance is provided to those who need it.

Abstract Juglans regia L. are nutritious fruit bearing plants mostly found in Northern areas of Pakistan. The population of walnuts was explored from district Dir and Swat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan for their geographical, climatic and chemical divergence. The geographical differences such as altitude, latitude and longitude whereas climatic differences viz. soil EC, soil pH, precipitations, intensity of light, temperature and soil temperature. In both districts TPC ranged from 211.2±0.6 to 227.8±0.4 mg/100g, RSA ranged from 43.32±1.5% to 52.18±0.4%, conductivity ranged from 296.43±0.6 to 312.22±0.3 S/m and elemental composition such as iron, copper, calcium, zinc and magnesium in Dir differs from 0.312±0.032, 0.209±0.13, 20.0±0.313, 0.406±0.10 and 10.2±0.030 mg/L to 0.543±0.65, 0.698±0.82, 28.7±0.234, 0.685±0.15 and 17.6±0.015 mg/L respectively. Altitude and temperature showed a correlation with total phenolics contents and radical scavenging activity while soil pH, precipitations, soil temperature, soil Ec and light intensity indicated a weak correlation with chemical traits of walnuts. Further studies of walnuts are needed to explore their therapeutically important phytochemicals to succeed naturally pharmaceutical nutrients of the maximum significance for the health of human beings.

This study aimed to determine the increase in students’ interest and achievement of science in the 8th graders of SMP Negeri 1 Watampone, Bone Regency Indonesia, when using outdoor activities. This study applied Classroom Action Research (CAR), which consists of two learning cycles following the procedural phase such as planning, implementation, observation phase, and reflection. The sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique class. The data collected included data about the students’ science achievement before the implementation of the action, data about the students’ interest in learning science, data about the students’ science achievement in the cycle I and cycle II, and data on the observations/notes of the teacher in each research cycle. Data were obtained through a questionnaire asking about students’ interest in learning science, students’ achievement result test before the implementation of the action, students’ achievement test in cycle I and cycle II, and student learning observation sheet. Data then analyzed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results showed that there was an increase in students’ achievement, both in cycle I and in cycle II. Students’ mastery level in science materials was in the high category and their readiness, sincerity, and activeness in participating in the learning process were increased. Recommendation and direction for further research are included in the study.

Abstract Germin-like proteins (GLPs) play an important role against various stresses. Vitis vinifera L. genome contains 7 GLPs; many of them are functionally unexplored. However, the computational analysis may provide important new insight into their function. Currently, physicochemical properties, subcellular localization, domain architectures, 3D structures, N-glycosylation & phosphorylation sites, and phylogeney of the VvGLPs were investigated using the latest computational tools. Their functions were predicted using the Search tool for the retrieval of interacting genes/proteins (STRING) and Blast2Go servers. Most of the VvGLPs were extracellular (43%) in nature but also showed periplasmic (29%), plasma membrane (14%), and mitochondrial- or chloroplast-specific (14%) expression. The functional analysis predicted unique enzymatic activities for these proteins including terpene synthase, isoprenoid synthase, lipoxygenase, phosphate permease, receptor kinase, and hydrolases generally mediated by Mn+ cation. VvGLPs showed similarity in the overall structure, shape, and position of the cupin domain. Functionally, VvGLPs control and regulate the production of secondary metabolites to cope with various stresses. Phylogenetically VvGLP1, -3, -4, -5, and VvGLP7 showed greater similarity due to duplication while VvGLP2 and VvGLP6 revealed a distant relationship. Promoter analysis revealed the presence of diverse cis-regulatory elements among which CAAT box, MYB, MYC, unnamed-4 were common to all of them. The analysis will help to utilize VvGLPs and their promoters in future food programs by developing resistant cultivars against various biotic (Erysiphe necator and in Powdery Mildew etc.) and abiotic (Salt, drought, heat, dehydration, etc.) stresses.

Abstract This study aims at reporting the indigenous knowledge of the medicinal flora from the inhabitants of surroundings of the World’s largest artificial planted forest “Changa Manga”, Pakistan. Data were collected by direct interviews and group meetings from 81 inhabitants including 32 local healers having information regarding the use of indigenous medicinal plants over a period of one year. Different statistical tools were applied to analyze the data including Frequency citation (FC), Relative frequency citation (RFC), Use Value, Factor of informants consensus and fidelity level. This study reported 73 plant species belonging to 37 plant families and 46 genera. The majority of plant species belong to compositae family. The most commonly used medicinal plants were P. hysterophorus L., P. dactylifera L., S. indicum L, P. harmala L., P. emblica L., and A. indica A.Juss. The greatest number of species was used to cure gastrointestinal disorders. The highest fidelity level (68.18%) was of E. helioscopia to cure gastrointestinal disorders. Maximum fresh uses (17) were reported by C. dactylon (L.) Pars. While the highest number of species reporting fresh uses in similar number was 13. In this study, five novel plants are being reported for the first time in Pakistan for their ethnomedicinal worth. Our data reflect unique usage of the medicinal plants in the study area. The statistical tools used in the study proved useful in pointing the most important and disease category specific plants. High use value plant and the new reported medicinal plants might prove an important source of the isolation of pharmacologically active compounds.

Monotonous mathematics learning focusing on textbooks only will make students bored and feel that studying mathematics is useless. Using attractive and meaningful approaches, like STEAM and Quranic approaches, is strongly motivated by the need to avoid tedious drilling for students in learning mathematics. This study aims to assess students' perceptions of the development of mathematics modules using science, technology, engineering, and art (STEAM) and AL-Quran approaches. The research approach employed in this research is embedded in mixed methods. Quantitative data was examined using percentages, while qualitative data were transcribed and then developed into codes, categories, and themes. The study recruited 146 Pidie senior high school students in the natural science stream, and five individuals were selected for one-to-one semi-structured interviews. The results of this study show that students have a negative experience in learning mathematics. However, they have a significant interest in integrated math learning with Quranic and STEAM approaches. Furthermore, they believe the modules are one learning medium ideal for mathematics. Finally, based on this study, mathematics teachers should be able to develop learning modules that can integrate STEAM approaches and the understanding of the Quran for senior high school students.

This study aimed to investigate anxiety and school avoidance in individuals with and without learning disabilities. The study employed quantitative survey-based approach, with comparative research design. N= 160 participants between 8 till 18 years were selected via Purposive sampling technique. Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (Birmaher et al., 1999) was administered to measure anxiety and school avoidance and Learning Disabilities Checklist (National Centre for Learning Disabilities, 2007) was used to assess learning disabilities in participants. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. Results were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Correlation and regression analysis were done to study the relationship and level of variance between the variables. Results indicated significant differences on the variable of anxiety (t=-3.95, df =140.71, p <0.01) and school avoidance (t=-3.80, df =131.38, p <0.01) in both groups. A significant relationship (p<0.01) between anxiety and school avoidance was also reported in learning disabled groups; providing a valuable insight regarding increased vulnerability of internalizing disorders particularly related to anxiety in younger population in Pakistan.

Abstract Ferns are often used by indigenous people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This study was designed to collect the ethnomedicinal and traditional knowledge of these locals about this group of vascular plants. Forty taxa belong to nineteen genera and ten families are used in the treatment of different diseases. The Pteridaceae was the most representative family with twelve taxa (30%), followed by Athyriaceae and Dryopteridaceae with six taxa each (30%), and Thelypteridaceae with five taxa (12.5%). Regarding the genera, Adiantum, Asplenium and Dryopteris ranked first with four taxa each (30%), followed by Aleuritopteris, Diplazium, Pteris and Equisetum with three taxa each (30%), followed by Athyrium, Oeosporangium, Polystichum and Pseudophegopteris with two taxa each (20%). These taxa were commonly used in the treatment of respiratory disorders i.e. asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia; intestinal ulcer, stomach, urinary ailments and skin disorders by the methods of decoction and infusion. Traditional knowledge about ethnomedicinal plants is a valuable and essential source for the discovery of allopathic, herbal and homeopathic medicines.

Abstract Traditional medicine is cheaper and easily available to local people, to care for most frequent diseases in the Northern parts of Pakistan. Our study aimed at inventorying medicine from local plants, documenting their uses, and assessing their market value in 2015-2018 during spring, summer, and winter seasons. A total of 15 trips were made, 5 in each season. Semi-structured interviews with 165 inhabitant’s age range between 20-80 years were conducted, analyzed the data is analyzed using Relative frequency of citation(RFC), Use Value(UV), Fidelity Level(FL), Informants consensus factor(ICF), and Jaccard index(JI) to find the most frequent and well-known used species in the area. A total of 86 species belonging to 39 vascular plant families, 33 genera were documented as medicinally important. Family Asteraceae was observed as the dominant family among all the families with 10 species, the leaf was the most used parts and decoction 36% was the most preferred preparation type. Herb was the predominant life form (67%). The maximum UV (0.92) was demonstrated by J. adhatoda L. species, while A. sativum L. shows maximum RFC (0.58), the highest ICF value represented by diarrhea and dermatitis 0.92, and high FL value is recorded 100%. According to our collections, wild species were 45%, invasive species were 38% and cultivated 17% recorded, dicots species were recorded more 81%. Seven 7 medicinal species is being economically important and export to the local and international market of the world, whereas P. integrima L. species were the most exported species according to the local dealers. The investigated area is rural and the local people depend on the area's plants for their health needs, and other uses like a vegetable, fuelwood, fodder, etc. The current result of RFC, UV, ICF, FL, and JI shows that medicinal flora needs to be pharmacologically and phytochemically investigated to prove their efficacy. The documentation of medicinal knowledge is important to preserve this precious old knowledge before it is lost forever, due to technological and environmental changes in the world.

Polar mesosphere summer echoes (PMSEs) are strong radar echoes observed in the polar mesopause during the local summer. Observations of layered PMSEs carried out by the European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association very-high-frequency (EISCAT VHF) radar during 2004–2015 in the latest solar cycle are used to study the variations of the PMSE occurrence ratio (OR). Different seasonal behavior of PMSEs is found by analyzing the seasonal variation of PMSE mono-, double-, and tri-layer OR. A method was used to calculate the PMSE mono, double-, and tri-layer OR under a different electron density threshold. In addition, a method to analyze the correlation of the layered PMSE OR with the solar 10.7 cm flux index (F10.7) and geomagnetic K index is proposed. Based on it, the correlation of the layered PMSE OR with solar and geomagnetic activities is not expected to be affected by discontinuous PMSEs. It is found that PMSE mono-, double-, and tri-layer ORs are positively correlated with the K index. The correlation of the PMSE mono- and double-layer OR with F10.7 is weak, whereas the PMSE tri-layer OR shows a negative correlation with F10.7.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from peat are commonly measured using closed chambers, using a collar insertion depth of 5–20 cm. However, measured emission values at these depths are likely to be a mixture of root (autotrophic) and microbial (heterotrophic) respiration. Using a deeper collar insertion depth of 60 cm may minimise the influence of root respiration. We compared CO2 fluxes measured from six shallow (20 cm insertion depth) and six deep (60 cm insertion depth) collars. The collars were installed permanently in a mature (25-year old) oil palm plantation; 450 cm from the base of individual palm trees. Carbon dioxide fluxes were measured in the field bi-weekly from May to October 2017 using an Infrared CO2 Gas Analyser (IRGA). For each measurement date, CO2 fluxes from the shallow collars were consistently higher than from the deep collars. On a daily basis, the mean CO2 emission rate from the deep collars was 448 ± 25 mg m-2, 29 % lower than mean emissions recorded from the shallow collars (634 ± 30 mg m-2). Angelica glauca Edgew. and Chenopodium album Linn. are medicinally important plants with aromatic, nutritious and flavor-enhancing properties. In this study the fatty acid composition of petroleum ether seed extracts (PE) of processed plants were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The PE consisted mainly of unsaturated fatty acids, such as petroselinic acid 74.26% and oleic acid 7.37% for A. glauca and linoleic acid 53.05% and oleic acid 20.74% for C. album. The de-fatted seed extracts were screened for their antioxidant activities using 2,2-di-phenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging assay. Almost all the assays resulted in defatted seed extracts showing powerful radical scavenging activity. These findings suggest that the processed plants could be used as ingredients (as a source of natural antioxidants and unsaturated fatty acids) for the formulation of functional foods.

Atomic surface structure imaging is instrumental for the understanding of surface-related phenomena. Here, we show that conventional tapping mode atomic force microscopy with high cantilever eigenmodes and subnanometer amplitudes allow routine atomic imaging at atmospheric pressures. We identify the reasons for failure of atomic resolution imaging employing low eigenmodes. Strong tip-surface interactions cause significant differences between the oscillatory behaviors of the inclination of the cantilever as detected by conventional instruments and of the vertical position of the tip, which prevents correct functioning of instrumental feedback control loops. However, high effective spring constants of high eigenmodes make it possible to overcome the problem. Furthermore, the combination of high effective elastic constants of high cantilever eigenmodes with the high flexibility of the cantilever substantially enhances the imaging stability, thereby universally allowing atomic imaging of solid surfaces in gaseous environments and at elevated temperatures. Demonstrated imaging examples include single sulfur vacancies at the surface of MoS_{2} crystals imaged at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 250°C and potassium ions on hydrophilic and highly adhesive muscovite mica surfaces. Moreover, the high imaging stability allows knocking atoms off the MoS_{2} surface by hard tapping, indicating the potential for ultrahigh resolution lithography.
