The aim: Was to evaluate the anatomical variability of the frontal and maxillary sinuses, ostiomeatal complex components (OMC) and to identify factors that contribute to complications of inflammatory processes and development of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis.Materials and methods: The study involved assessment of 100 spiral computed tomograms (SCT) of human patients without pathological processes in the PNS area. The basic parameters of the anatomical structure of the ostiomeatal complex (the area of the hooked process and the middle nasal conch, their transverse dimensions, the density and dimensions of the natural connection), the thickness and the density of the lower wall of the maxillary and frontal sinuses were determined. These parameters were investigated by the method of uncertainty calculation.Results: The findings showed that the bone density of the maxillary sinus on the left was 57.713 ± 440.356 Hu (minimum), 1101.507 ± 613.4882 Hu (maximum); 96.2752 ± 395.0 and 1028.691 ± 620.4051 on the right, respectively, the density of the inferior frontal sinus wall on the right was 5.5179 ± 276.43 and 831.1607 ± 732.274, on the left 12.069 ± 310.56 and 898.293 ± 748, respectively. In the same way, the probable OMC structure parameters, in the range ± U at the confidence level p = 0.95, were calculated.Conclusions: Thus, some variants of the anatomical structure of the ostiomeatal complex can be a prerequisite for hypoventilation of PNS and, as a consequence, lead to inflammatory processes in them. Features of the same structure of the walls of the PNS are a prerequisite for the propagation of the inflammatory process in the surrounding tissues and the development of complications.

Background. Diagnosis of genital prolapse (GP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women is a complex clinical problem. Aim. To improve the efficiency of diagnosis of cystocele and SUI by using methods of diagnostic radiology. Material and methods. Data of comprehensive examination of 73 female patients suffering from GP and SUI with the help of a modified one-hour pad test and MRI. Results. A positive modified one-hour pad test is a documentary confirmation of minimum volume SUI and an indication for an MRI investigation. If, according to the results of static MRI, there is a damage of the ligaments of the urethra and/or the value of the urethral inclination angle (UIA) is more than 30º, a dynamic MRI needs to be done. At values of UIA over 35º, as revealed by dynamic MRI, cystocele is diagnosed and classified. Conclusions. The modified one-hour pad test confirms and documents the minimum volume SUI. MRI of the pelvis detects and documents all cases of SUI in women with GP, and allows for an objective diagnosis of cystocele as well as its stage.

Background. The use of synthetic prostheses to correct genital prolapse and stress urinary incontinence has led to the increase in specific complications. Aim. To analyze the possibilities of MRI and CT in the diagnosis of implant-associated complications (IAC). Material and methods. 14 MRI of the pelvis and 1 CT-fistulography were performed at different times after operations on patients, treated for IAC after surgical correction of genital prolapse and stress urinary incontinence using synthetic mesh prostheses. Results. In all cases, tomogram-specific signs were detected on the tomograms, which enabled to determine the prevalence of the process in full and, subsequently, to determine the tactics of treatment. Conclusions. MRI scans should be mandatory methods of investigation for suspected postoperative IAC in female patients. CT-fistulography has high diagnostic potential in revealing suppuration processes.

Background. Difficulties in the diagnosis of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) occur with minimal volumes of involuntarily lost urine. The aim was to develop a method for documenting diagnosis of minimal forms of SUI in women. Material and methods. We modified the well-known 1-hour Pad test by the intravenous injecting of a solution of indigo carmine and an iodine-containing contrast agent before the test. Results. The main advantage of the modification is the ability to visually confirm the fact of involuntary loss of minimal volumes of urine by detecting a spot of indigo carmine on the sanitary pad and a contrast stain on the x-ray film of the pad after the 1-hour Pad test. A colored spot on the pad and a contrasting shadow on the roentgenogram of the pad is a documentary confirmation of the involuntary loss of the contents of the bladder which is a sign of SUI. The procedure was used in 21 patients who were suspected to have minimal SUI. Minimal SUI was documented in 19 (90%) and excluded in 2 (10%) patients. Conclusions. The method allows confirming and documenting the minimum amount of involuntarily lost urine.

Objective :to evaluate the efficiency of the means of radiation imaging in the diagnosis of genital prolapse. Material and methods . The work presents the data of the complex analysis of the results of examination of 83 female patients with different clinical degrees of genital prolapse by means of excretory and retrograde cystography, MRI, and CT. Results . The article presents the results of static and dynamic MRI of the pelvis, as well as CT of the pelvis in patients with genital prolapse, and gives the evaluation of the informative value of these methods in the diagnosis of this disease. Conclusion . MRI and CT of the pelvis play a leading role in the documentation diagnosis of genital prolapse and clarification of its degree.

The objective of the present work was to investigate the influence of the tubercle of the nasal septum thickening on the localization of the regions of precipitation of aerosol particles in the nasal cavity under the experimental conditions. The experiment was conducted using the newly developed 3D stereolithographic model of the nasal cavity. The study has demonstrated that the tubercle of the nasal septum thickening is an aerodynamically-conditioned normal anatomical structure, and its absence deteriorates the aerodynamic characteristics of the airflow through the nasal cavity.
