Abstract

Recent advancements in view synthesis have significantly enhanced immersive experiences across various computer graphics and multimedia applications, including telepresence, and entertainment. By enabling the generation of new perspectives from a single input view, view synthesis allows users to better perceive and interact with their environment. However, many state-of-the-art methods, while achieving high visual quality, face limitations in real-time performance, which makes them less suitable for live applications where low latency is critical. In this paper, we present a lightweight, position-aware network designed for real-time view synthesis from a single input image and a target camera pose. The proposed framework consists of a Position Aware Embedding, modeled with a multi-layer perceptron, which efficiently maps positional information from the target pose to generate high dimensional feature maps. These feature maps, along with the input image, are fed into a Rendering Network that merges features from dual encoder branches to resolve both high level semantics and low level details, producing a realistic new view of the scene. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves superior efficiency and visual quality compared to existing approaches, particularly in handling complex translational movements without explicit geometric operations like warping. This work marks a step toward enabling real-time view synthesis from a single image for live and interactive applications.

2. F-signature functions of diagonal hypersurfaces

Abstract

Let $f$ be a diagonal hypersurface in $A_p=\mathbb{F}_p[[x_1,\dots,x_n]]$. We study the behavior of the function $\phi_{f,p}({a}/{p^e})=p^{-ne}\dim_{\mathbb{F}_p}\big(A_p/(x_1^{p^e},\dots,x_n^{p^e},f^a)\big)$ which encodes information about the F-threshold, the Hilbert-Kunz, and the F-signature functions. We prove that when $p$ goes to infinity $\phi_{f,p}$ converges to a piecewise polynomial function $\phi_f$ and the left and right derivatives of $\phi_{f,p}$ converge to $\phi'_f$. We use this fact to prove the existence of the limit F-signature and limit Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity for diagonal hypersurfaces. When $f$ is a Fermat hypersurface, we investigate the shape of the F-signature function of $f$ and provide an explicit formula for the limit F-signature and, in some cases, also for the F-signature for fixed $p$. Abstract

Point clouds have become increasingly prevalent in representing 3D scenes within virtual environments, alongside 3D meshes. Their ease of capture has facilitated a wide array of applications on mobile devices, from smartphones to autonomous vehicles. Notably, point cloud compression has reached an advanced stage and has been standardized. However, the availability of quality assessment datasets, which are essential for developing improved objective quality metrics, remains limited. In this paper, we introduce BASICS, a large-scale quality assessment dataset tailored for static point clouds. The BASICS dataset comprises 75 unique point clouds, each compressed with four different algorithms including a learning-based method, resulting in the evaluation of nearly 1500 point clouds by 3500 unique participants. Furthermore, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of the gathered data, benchmark existing point cloud quality assessment metrics and identify their limitations. Abstract

The aim of this case series was to describe the pulmonary rehabilitation experience of our clinic the treatment of patients with post-Covid-19. Fever, cough, fatigue, anorexi, shortness of breath, myalgia, disability and anxiety occurs in most cases. We report 6 cases of patients with Covid-19 who applied to our clinic from the chest diseases clinic that illustrate the various indications for physical therapy, clinical challenges, potential treatment methods, and short-term response to treatment. Spirometry, 6 min walking test (6MWT), short physical performance battery, The Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy – Fatigue Scale (FACIT), beck anxiety-depression scale and short form of health‐related quality of life scale (SF‐36) were applied to the patients before and after pulmonary rehabilitation. The pulmonary rehabilitation program in Covid-19patients ranged from patient education, aerobic exercise, mobilization, and respiratory therapy. After pulmonary rehabilitation, patients had improved symptoms of dyspnea, relieved anxiety, reduced complications, minimized disability, improved function, and improved quality of life. Pulmonary rehabilitation interventions will be required in the post-Covid-19 patients at the appropriate time.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the presence and progression of TMD in adult patients undergoing orthognathic surgery to correct dentoskeletal open bite and evaluate whether these changes can be attributed to the intervention. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 44 adult patients (14 males and 30 females) aged 18 to 43 years. Articular assessments were performed to evaluate temporomandibular joint (TMJ) health and functionality before (T0) and after (T1) combined orthodontic-surgical treatment. TMJ health was assessed by maximum mouth opening, joint noises, parafunctions (bruxism or clenching), joint locking, TMJ pain, masticatory muscle pain, and headaches. Statistical analyses used McNemar’s Exact Test and paired T-tests. The study shows a significant reduction (p < 0.05) in symptoms, except for locking, with the most substantial decrease in headaches (p = 0.0001). Overall, articular symptoms markedly decreased post-surgery, with sustained joint functionality. Restoring physiological occlusion in patients with anterior open bite is crucial for maintaining the stomatognathic system’s balance. Orthognathic surgery, when indicated, appears beneficial in alleviating articular symptoms while preserving TMJ function.

Abstract

The effective design of visual computing systems depends heavily on the anticipation of visual attention, or saliency. While visual attention is well investigated for conventional 2D images and video, it is nevertheless a very active research area for emerging immersive media. In particular, visual attention of light fields (light rays of a scene captured by a grid of cameras or micro lenses) has only recently become a focus of research. As they may be rendered and consumed in various ways, a primary challenge that arises is the definition of what visual perception of light field content should be. In this work, we present a visual attention study on light field content. We conducted perception experiments displaying them to users in various ways and collected corresponding visual attention data. Our analysis highlights characteristics of user behaviour in light field imaging applications. Abstract

Multimedia and creativity software products are being used to edit and control various elements of creative media practices. These days, the technical affordances of mobile multimedia devices and the advent of high-speed 5G internet access mean that these abilities are simpler and more readily available to be harnessed by mobile applications. In this paper, using a prototype application, we discuss how potential users of such technology are motivated to use a video recoloring application and explore the role that user expectation and satisfaction play in this process. By exploring this topic and focusing on the human-computer interaction, we found that color transfer interactions are driven by several intrinsic motivations and that user expectations and satisfaction ratings can be maintained via clear visualizations of the processes to be undertaken. Furthermore, we reveal the specific language that users use to communicate video recoloring when regarding user motivations, expectations, and satisfaction. This research provides important information for developers of state-of-art recoloring processes and contributes to dialogues surrounding the users of mobile multimedia technology in practice.

Abstract

Measuring the colorfulness of a natural or virtual scene is critical for many applications in image processing field ranging from capturing to display. In this paper, we propose the first deep learning-based colorfulness estimation metric. For this purpose, we develop a color rating model which simultaneously learns to extracts the pertinent characteristic color features and the mapping from feature space to the ideal colorfulness scores for a variety of natural colored images. Additionally, we propose to overcome the lack of adequate annotated dataset problem by combining/aligning two publicly available colorfulness databases using the results of a new subjective test which employs a common subset of both databases. Using the obtained subjectively annotated dataset with 180 colored images, we finally demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed model over the traditional methods, both quantitatively and qualitatively., Comment: Accepted to IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) 2019

Abstract

Temporomandibular disorders include various conditions that impact the masticatory system, affecting its structure, function, or physiology. Clinicians face a complex array of therapeutic options when treating this group of diseases, emphasizing the importance of evaluating the current evidence to guide decisions in patient care. The main objective of this article is to conduct a scoping review on the available treatment approaches to manage temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). An extensive search of the literature was performed on Scopus, Pubmed, Embase, and Web of Science. Systematic reviews published in the last 5 years were considered. Out of the 2183 publications identified, 109 studies were included in this review. Among them, 39 articles focused on the non-invasive approach, while 120 delved into the minimally invasive approach, and 15 explored the surgical approach. Non-invasive or conservative approaches like cognitive-behavioral therapy, physical therapy, and acupuncture offer effective pain management and functional improvements in TMDs. Emerging treatments offer promising alternatives for treating these disorders. Surgery should be reserved for severe cases, with conservative therapies used in conjunction with invasive procedures for optimal patient outcomes.

27. Does Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion Influence Upper Airway in Adult Patients? A Scoping Review

Abstract

(1) Objective: This scoping review evaluates the effects of miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) on different regions of the upper airway in adult patients and investigates various methods of measurement. (2) Methods: The search encompassed Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Web of Science. This review was conducted following the PRISMA_ScR guidelines, and the inclusion criteria for examined studies were chosen in accordance with the PICOS framework. (3) Results: Seven studies were included in this review, comprising four retrospective studies, one prospective and two case reports. All studies involved the use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) for measurements of the areas of interest. The percentage of increase in the volume of the nasal cavity varied between 31% and 9.9%, depending on the study. Volumetric variations in the nasopharynx were reported as increases between T0 (before expansion) and T1 (immediately after expansion) of 6.4%, 20.7% and 14.1%. All studies considered T0 before expansion and T1 immediately after expansion. Only one study evaluated remote follow-up to assess if the results were maintained after one year. (4) Conclusions: MARPE appears to lead to a statistically significant increase in the upper airway, especially in the nasal cavity and nasopharynx immediately after expansion. However, further prospective and retrospective trails with long-term controls are required to verify the effects of MARPE on the upper airway.

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the chromatic adaptability and color stability of two different composite resins, Omnichroma and Estelite Bulk-Fill Flow, in Class V restorations at different times. Materials and methods: Standardized Class V cavities were prepared on the labial surface of 34 extracted intact and noncarious human permanent molars. The dental elements were randomly divided into two groups according to the resin composite material. Group 1 was restored with Omnichroma (Tokuyama Dental Corporation Inc., Tokyo, Japan) and Group 2 was restored with Estelite BulkFill Flow Universal (Tokuyama Dental Corporation Inc., Tokyo, Japan). Color properties were assessed using a spectrophotometer, SpectroShadeTM Micro (MHT Optic Research, Niederhasli, Switzerland), at baseline (T0), immediately after Class V restoration (T1), 24 h after restoration (T2) and after thermocycling (T3) (ISO/TS 11405, 2015 protocol). Color difference (ΔE) was analyzed with a Student's t-test and a Wilcoxon–Mann–Whitney test to evaluate the differences, in terms of chromatic adaptability, between the two materials (inter-group analysis) while Kruskal–Wallis test e Two-way ANOVA statistical tests were used to evaluate the color stability of each material over time (intra-group analysis). Results: Regarding the inter-group analysis, there were no statistically significant differences between the two materials in all the comparisons: T0–T1 (p = 0.9025), T0–T2 (p = 0.2779), T0–T3 (p = 0.4694). Moreover, both groups showed an average ΔE > 2. In the intra-group analysis, no statistically significant differences were observed in either Group 1 (p = 0.954) or Group 2 (p = 0.8654). Conclusions: The in vitro color matching, assessed by spectrophotometry, of the two tested resin composites does not vary at different time intervals. Furthermore, even though both composites use different mechanisms to produce the color the human eye perceives, they show very similar chromatic adaptability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This study aims to assess the presence and progression of TMD in adult patients undergoing orthognathic surgery to correct dentoskeletal open bite and evaluate whether these changes can be attributed to the intervention. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 44 adult patients (14 males and 30 females) aged 18 to 43 years. Articular assessments were performed to evaluate temporomandibular joint (TMJ) health and functionality before (T0) and after (T1) combined orthodontic-surgical treatment. TMJ health was assessed by maximum mouth opening, joint noises, parafunctions (bruxism or clenching), joint locking, TMJ pain, masticatory muscle pain, and headaches. Statistical analyses used McNemar's Exact Test and paired T-tests. The study shows a significant reduction (p < 0.05) in symptoms, except for locking, with the most substantial decrease in headaches (p = 0.0001). Overall, articular symptoms markedly decreased post-surgery, with sustained joint functionality. Restoring physiological occlusion in patients with anterior open bite is crucial for maintaining the stomatognathic system's balance. Orthognathic surgery, when indicated, appears beneficial in alleviating articular symptoms while preserving TMJ function. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
