The present study was conducted on the scapula of five adult tigers to record the characteristic features of scapula bone. It was placed on lateral aspect of thorax, directed downward and forward. It was in the form of wide plate having scapular spine on lateral aspect. The height of spine increased gradually towards the distal end. The acromian process was subdivided into hamate process and suprahamate process. Hamate process overhanged the glenoid cavity. The suprahamate process was in the form of thin triangular plate directed backwards. The supraspinous fossa presented undulating surface in its middle. The infraspinous fossa was triangular and more or less flattened. Subscapular fossa was shallow and presented two prominent ridges. The caudal angle of the scapula was terminated in to glenoid cavity which was oval to quadrangular in shape. Cranial and proximal to the glenoid cavity prominent supraglenoid tubercle was observed which had hook shaped coracoid process. Scapula of both the sides were morphologically similar but the morphometrical values for the right scapula were non-significantly higher than the left counterpart (t less than 0.05), which may be of some biomechanical importance.

The aim of this study was to determine the pathogenicity of an Indian bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) 1b isolate in 7-9-months-old male calves. Infected (four) and control (two) calves were bled at three days interval for hematological, virological and serological studies until day 27. All infected calves developed respiratory illness, biphasic pyrexia, mild diarrhea, leucopenia and mild thrombocytopenia. Viraemia was demonstrated between 3 and 15dpi and the infected calves seroconverted by 15dpi. Prominent kidney lesions were endothelial cell swelling, proliferation of mesangial cells and podocytes leading to glomerular space obliteration. Degeneration and desquamation of cells lining seminiferous tubules were observed in two infected calves. Consolidation of lungs with interstitial pneumonia, mild gastroenteritis and systemic spread were also evident. It was concluded that Indian BVDV isolate induced moderate clinical disease in calves and glomerulonephritis resulting from acute BVDV infection was observed for the first time.

Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) population in their historic ranges is critically endangered owing to habitat destructions, ruthless poaching and retaliatory killing. The tiger population now remains in few thousands located in about 150 fragments in 13 countries (Karanth and Gopal, 2005). However, declination is also associated with health related problems such as nutritional deficiencies and infectious diseases (Prater, 2005). Therefore, health monitoring and scientific health management, disease diagnosis and treatment should be made mandatory for conservation of wildlife as the tiger is a key stone species and important member of forest ecology (Shrivastav, 2001).

The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of α- tocopherol on chlorpyrifos induced immunotoxicity and oxidative stress in experimental rats. There was significant decrease in log2 value of haemagglutination titre in chlorpyrifos treated group compared to control group and α-tocopherol supplemented group. The CMI against calf RBCs was measured by skin thickness. At zero hour there was no significant difference among the groups. Whereas, skin thickness found to be increased after 24 hrs in chlorpyrifos with α- tocopherol group as compared to chlorpyrifos treated group.
