One of the main methods for obtaining information about the generation of sound pulses in metals is to measure the reflection coefficient of a probe wave. Various theoretical models are used to interpret the results of measuring the contribution to reflection coefficient Δ R (t) due to sound-generated displacements of lattice atoms. The purpose of this paper is to establish the degree of accuracy of models used in the case of sound generation in thin films exposed to a femtosecond pulse. It is shown below that the assumption of uniform heating used for thin films is justified if the film thickness is less than the film heating depth and for thicker films at times greater than the film heating time over the entire thickness. For optically thick films, a relatively simple expression for the field can be used. If the film thickness is less than the skin layer depth of the pump field, then it is necessary to consider the field reflection from a substrate. In this case, depending on the optical properties of the metal and the substrate, taking into account reflection can lead to either an increase or a decrease in Δ R (t). It has been established that if the skin layer at the frequency of probe radiation is less than the film heating depth, then taking into account temperature gradients in the equation for the displacement of lattice atoms leads to small changes in Δ R (t). Complementary acoustic metamaterials (CAMMs) have been proposed as a means of enhancing the transmission of acoustic imaging signals through aberrating layers. Aberrating layers with high impedance contrast compared to the surrounding material disrupt the acoustic field and hence distort acoustic images. However, conventional CAMMs are passive and thus unable to compensate for signal distortions associated with loss. This work presents an approach inspired by CAMMs that is not bound by the limits of passivity to compensate for both acoustic scattering and energy attenuation by augmenting a plane wave incident on a lossy material with monopolar and dipolar source fields to allow for perfect transmission, thus rendering the lossy medium acoustically transparent. We present a general approach to derive expressions for source magnitudes that are dimensionless with respect to frequency, system geometry, and the background medium. We validate these results with three-dimensional finite element simulations, where the appropriate monopolar and dipolar source fields are generated by prescribing velocities on finite-dimensional boundaries. Topological interface states have wide applications for their robustness and energy localization. Multiple topological interface states in 1D acoustic systems are preferred for signal enhancement at specific frequencies. However, previous 1D topological systems with local interactions can realize only one topological interface state in a bandgap. Here, we find that connected acoustic Su–Schrieffer–Heeger (SSH) chains with nonlocal interactions can achieve two or more topological interface states at different frequencies in a single bandgap, even in the subwavelength region. The difference in frequency can be modulated by merely adjusting the structural design at the interface. A mechanical metamaterial with a large winding number is designed to realize multiple nondegenerate topological interface states. This metamaterial can enhance weak acoustic signals at multiple specific frequencies simultaneously and has applications in the fields of acoustic detecting and color imaging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Acoustic holography (AH) provides a promising technique for arbitrary acoustic field reconstruction, supporting many applications like robotic micro-nano manipulation, neuromodulation, volumetric imaging, and virtual reality. In AH, three-dimensional (3D) acoustic fields quantified with complex-valued acoustic pressures are reconstructed by virtue of two-dimensional (2D) acoustic holograms. Phase-only hologram (POH) is recently regarded as an energy-efficient way for AH, which is typically implemented by a dynamically programmable phased array of transducers (PATs). As a result, spatiotemporal precise acoustic field reconstruction is enabled by precise, dynamic, and individual actuation of PAT. Thus, 2D POH is required per arbitrary acoustic fields, which can be viewed as a physical inverse problem. However, solving the aforementioned physical inverse problem in numerical manners poses challenges due to its non-linear, high-dimensional, and complex coupling natures. The existing iterative algorithms like the iterative angular spectrum approach (IASA) and iterative backpropagation (IB) still suffer from speed-accuracy trade-offs. Hence, this paper explores a novel physics-iterative-reinforced deep learning method, in which frequency-argument contrastive learning is proposed facilitated by the inherent physical nature of AH, and the energy conservation law is under consideration. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for acoustic field reconstruction, highlighting its significant potential in the domain of acoustics, and pushing forward the combination of physics into deep learning. The estimation sound fields over space is of interest in sound field control and analysis, spatial audio, room acoustics and virtual reality. Sound fields can be estimated from a number of measurements distributed over space yet this remains a challenging problem due to the large experimental effort required. In this work we investigate sensor distributions that are optimal to estimate sound fields. Such optimization is valuable as it can greatly reduce the number of measurements required. The sensor positions are optimized with respect to the parameters describing a sound field, or the pressure reconstructed at the area of interest, by finding the positions that minimize the Bayesian Cramér-Rao bound (BCRB). The optimized distributions are investigated in a numerical study as well as with measured room impulse responses. We observe a reduction in the number of measurements of approximately 50% when the sensor positions are optimized for reconstructing the sound field when compared with random distributions. The results indicate that optimizing the sensors positions is also valuable when the vector of parameters is sparse, specially compared with random sensor distributions, which are often adopted in sparse array processing in acoustics. Pipe contaminant detection holds considerable importance within various industries, such as the aviation, maritime, medicine, and other pertinent fields. This capability is beneficial for forecasting equipment potential failures, ascertaining operational situations, timely maintenance, and lifespan prediction. However, the majority of existing methods operate offline, and the detectable parameters online are relatively singular. This constraint hampers real-time on-site detection and comprehensive assessments of equipment status. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a sensing method that integrates an ultrasonic unit and an electromagnetic inductive unit for the real-time detection of diverse contaminants and flow rates within a pipeline. The ultrasonic unit comprises a flexible transducer patch fabricated through micromachining technology, which can not only make installation easier but also focus the sound field. Moreover, the sensing unit incorporates three symmetrical solenoid coils. Through a comprehensive analysis of ultrasonic and induction signals, the proposed method can be used to effectively discriminate magnetic metal particles (e.g., iron), nonmagnetic metal particles (e.g., copper), nonmetallic particles (e.g., ceramics), and bubbles. This inclusive categorization encompasses nearly all types of contaminants that may be present in a pipeline. Furthermore, the fluid velocity can be determined through the ultrasonic Doppler frequency shift. The efficacy of the proposed detection principle has been validated by mathematical models and finite element simulations. Various contaminants with diverse velocities were systematically tested within a 14 mm diameter pipe. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed sensor can effectively detect contaminants within the 0.5−3 mm range, accurately distinguish contaminant types, and measure flow velocity. AbstractThe in-plane auxetic honeycomb sandwich panels (AHSPs) with polyurea-metal laminate (PML) as faceplates were proposed, and their vibration and acoustic properties were investigated. The natural frequency, damping loss factor, sound transmission loss (STL), and sound field pressure distribution were simulated by the finite element, which was then compared with the AHSP without a polyurea layer. The sound insulation properties of the AHSPs with PML faceplates were significantly enhanced due to the viscoelastic energy consumption of the polyurea layer. By changing the thickness of the polyurea layer and adopting different honeycomb geometries, the sound insulation ability of the sandwich plate could be further enhanced. The average STL rose by 2.3–4.7 dB when the polyurea layer thickness was increased, hence significantly improving the noise suppression ability of the AHSPs. When the geometric tilt angle θ of the honeycomb core is −45°, the sandwich panel exhibits superior sound insulation performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Underwater multicell single-layer thin metal plate corner reflectors can't form a relatively stable TS in a large space because of its strong frequency characteristics. To solve the problem, the paper designs the underwater multicell cavity corner reflectors. Then using FEM coupled DBEM solver to simulated its scattering acoustic field in incident wave frequence varies from 5.0 kHz to 15.0 kHz. The results show that the underwater multicell cavity corner reflectors has weak frequency characteristics, obvious decoupling effect and strong scattering ability. Underwater multicell cavity corner reflectors can maintain stable target strength in a large space, and has better reflection ability, so it is an ideal underwater acoustic reflection device. Aiming at the problem of error in deep-sea DOA (Direction of Arrival, DOA) estimation based on plane wave sound field model, this paper establishes the array signal model of deep-sea DOA estimation under multipath channel based on ray theory. The characterization method of deep-sea multipath ray propagation time and adjacent array element ray propa- gation delay difference are also derived. Compared with the propagation delay difference expression of adjacent array elements in the traditional plane wave model, the propagation delay difference expression of adjacent array elements derived in this pa- per is more universal. Combined with the decoherence DOA estimation algorithm, the performance of deep-sea DOA estima- tion is improved, and the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by simulation. The research shows that the time delay difference between adjacent array elements is not only related to the distance between array elements and the target azimuth, but also related to the depth of the sound source and the horizontal distance from the sound source to each array element. The construction of the steering vector in DOA estimation should consider the influence of these factors. At this time, DOA esti- mation is a multi-dimensional parameter optimization problem. The accuracy of ultrasonic nondestructive examination is limited by the limitation of near field diffraction. With the development of nearfield optical, angular spectrum method is introduced into the acoustic field, which provides a significant direction for the ultrasonic diffraction limit resolution detection. The main research of this paper is the transmission of near field ultrasound in thin workpiece and the law of the interaction of tiny flaws. The paper establishes the relationship between the longitudinal wave signal and the structure of the workpiece and the types of flaws. A method is found that whether there are flaws can be determined near field area by analysing the acoustic field characteristics of workpiece surface. Finally, comparing the calculation results with the finite element simulation, they verify each other, the method turns out to be correct in this paper. Numerous studies have been conducted to examine the vibroacoustic characteristics of lightweight double-walled structures due to the anticipated applications of these structures in noise reduction engineering. In this study, third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT) is used to develop a theoretical model that predicts sound transmission loss (STL) across double-walled electro-rheological fluid (ERF) sandwich plates with functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) facesheets. The extended rule of mixture is utilized to evaluate the properties of the FG-CNTRC material in the thickness. Depending on the four FG models, the CNT volume fraction varies. A sufficient displacement continuity condition is taken into account between layers. Furthermore, it should be noted that changing the electric field affects the pre-yield zone's ERF features. The vibroacoustic equations are derived using Hamilton's principle and solved utilizing weighted residual (Galerkin) technique considering simply supported and clamped boundary conditions. Several studies are done to compare the results of the suggested model with other results found in the literature. Today, the common solutions for underwater source angle detection require manned vessels and towed arrays, which are associated with high costs, risks, and deployment difficulties. An alternative solution for such applications is represented by acoustic vector sensors (AVSs), which are compact, lightweight and moderate in cost, and which have promising performance in terms of the bearing discrimination in two or three dimensions. One of the most popular devices for passive monitoring in underwater surveillance systems that employ AVSs is the directional frequency analysis and recording (DIFAR) sonobuoy. In this paper, direct data-processing (DDP) algorithms are implemented to calculate the azimuth angle of underwater acoustic sources by using short-time Fourier transform (STFT) via the arctan method instead of using fast Fourier transform (FFT). These algorithms for bearing estimation use the 'Azigram' to plot the estimated bearing of a source. It is demonstrated that by knowing the active sound intensity of the sound field and applying the inverse tangent to its real part, this matrix can be obtained. Announcing the time and frequency of the source simultaneously is one of the main advantages of this method, enabling the detection of multiple sources concurrently. Aerosol jet printing has the potential to fabricate fine features on various substrates due to its large stand-off distance. However, the presence of overspray and instability, particularly at high printing resolutions, has limited its widespread application. In this study, we introduce an efficient approach called annular acoustic focusing for aerosol jet printing. By determining the optimal focusing frequency (5.8 MHz) for silver nanoparticles using a particle ejection model, we achieve precise and stable printing. We also propose a modified print nozzle geometry, resulting in ultrafine traces (line width < 6 μm, overspray < 0.1 μm). Compared to printing without acoustic focusing, the line width of the traces decreases to 60 ± 5% while their conductivity increases to 180 ± 5%. Additionally, several 8 h experiments demonstrate excellent printing stability. This research opens up possibilities for the fabrication of conformal electronics with high precision and improved conductivity using aerosol jet printing. Overspray and instability at high resolution has limited the widespread application of aerosol jet printing. Merons, as a member of quasiparticle family characterized by half-integer of the skyrmion topological charge with nontrivial topological textures, are of great interest in various branches of physics. Here, we report the first experimental observation of a meron texture configuration in acoustic waves. A squared metastructure is designed to support the spoof acoustic surface wave, forming meron lattice patterns in the acoustic velocity field vectors. The experimental results indicate that the meron textures can be moved and shaped by tuning the phase and amplitude differences between the excited sound sources, respectively. To demonstrate the topologically protected character of meron against structure defects, we further measure the acoustic pressure and velocity field distributions on a defective surface. The acoustic meron texture not only provides potential applications toward topologically robust ways to manipulate vectorial characteristics of the acoustic waves but also instills confidence for exploring other members of the quasiparticle family, such as the acoustic hopfion in acoustic waves. To recognize birds based on their calls, it would be helpful to have access to a machine-learning system. Researchers use machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to identify and differentiate bird calls. In this respect, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are robust machine learning toolkits that have shown success in the field of sound. However, these AI and machine learning algorithms are not intelligible and cannot be interpreted. Therefore, it is challenging to comprehend how these algorithms conclude that birds may be identified based on their calls. These algorithms are sometimes called "black boxes" for these reasons. This study aims to develop both explainable and interpretable techniques to categorize birds based on their sounds. With a focus on the interpretability of features by the convolutional filters and how these characteristics contribute to classification, we empirically evaluate two well-known explainer/interpretable methodologies called LIME (local interpretable model-agnostic explanations) and SHAP (SHAPley additive explanations) to determine the interpretability of our proposed model, which is used for the categorization of species from their sound. Our model achieves 92% accuracy while being simpler and having fewer layers than competing models. Because of eXplainable AI (XAI), the model is not only better but also more reliable. To our knowledge, this is the first time that XAI has been used for the purpose of identifying bird calls. Encrypted acoustic meta‐holograms have potential applications in confidential acoustic information communication, noise control, acoustic cloaking, acoustic illusion, etc. Conventional encrypted optical and acoustic meta‐holograms only focus on the encrypted hologram in a single channel, viz. modulating spatial amplitude to project a holographic image. Here, the concept of an amplitude‐phase dual‐channel encrypted acoustic meta‐hologram (DrEAM) is proposed, capable of generating, encrypting, and decrypting both amplitude and phase holographic images. This unique concept of “phase holographic image” introduces a new degree of freedom for meta‐holograms, leading to dual‐channel encrypted acoustic holography. Acoustic metasurface with simultaneous amplitude and phase modulations is employed to realize this dual‐channel encryption. The findings may offer the possibility to increase the capacity of the encrypted acoustic meta‐holograms, which can lead to practical applications in, for example, multi‐channel acoustic field communications, complex noise control, and acoustic illusions. Mesoscale eddies are phenomena that widely exist in the ocean and have a significant impact on the ocean's temperature and salt structure, as well as on acoustic propagation effects. Currently, utilizing the limited data on mesoscale eddy environments for refined acoustic field reconstruction in offshore conditions at mid-to-far-ocean distances is an urgent problem that needs to be addressed. In this paper, we propose a mesoscale eddy reconstruction method (EddyGAN) based on the generative adversarial network (GAN) model which is inspired by the concept of global localization. We adopt a hybrid algorithm for eddy identification using JCOPE2M high-resolution reanalysis data and Archiving, Validation, and Interpretation of Satellite Oceanographic (AVISO) satellite altimeter data to extract mesoscale eddy sound speed profile (SSP) sample data, and then apply the EddyGAN model to train this dataset and perform mesoscale eddy acoustic field reconstruction. We also propose an evaluation method for mesoscale eddy acoustic field reconstruction that uses RMSE, SSIM, and convergence zone (CZ) accuracy based on World Ocean Atlas (WOA) climate state data completion as indicators. The reconstruction result of this model achieves an RMSE of 1.7 m/s, an SSIM of 0.77, and an average CZ accuracy of over 70%. This method better characterizes the mesoscale eddy sound field than the native GAN and other reconstruction methods, improves the accuracy of mesoscale eddy acoustic field reconstruction, and provides superior performance, offering significant reference value for mesoscale eddy reconstruction technology and subsequent ocean acoustic research. In practical conditions, near-field acoustic holography (NAH) requires the measurement environment to be a free sound field. If vibrating objects are located above the reflective ground, the sound field becomes non-free in the presence of a reflecting surface, and conventional NAH may not identify the sound source. In this work, two types of half-space NAH techniques based on the Helmholtz equation least-squares (HELS) method are developed to reconstruct the sound field above a reflecting plane. The techniques are devised by introducing the concept of equivalent source in HELS-method-based NAH. Two equivalent sources are tested. In one technique, spherical waves are used as the equivalent source, and the sound reflected from the reflecting surface is regarded as a linear superposition of orthogonal spherical wave functions of different orders located below the reflecting surface. In the other technique, some monopoles are considered equivalent sources, and the reflected sound is considered a series of sounds generated by simple sources distributed under the reflecting surface. The sound field is reconstructed by matching the pressure measured on the holographic surface with the orthogonal spherical wave source in the vibrating object and replacing the reflected sound with an equivalent source. Therefore, neither technique is related to the surface impedance of the reflected plane. Compared with the HELS method, both methods show higher reconstruction accuracy for a half-space sound field and are expected to broaden the application range of HELS-method-based NAH techniques. This paper describes an unusual underwater biological chorus recorded in the Southern California Bight and presents a numerical modeling approach that replicates aspects of the chorus. During one experiment, the evolution of the directionality of the chorusing region over time is suggestive of "The Wave", the human waves performed by fans periodically standing and sitting in sports stadia around the world; here, the region of chorusing periodically propagated upcoast over 20 km of coastline at nearly 1.5 km/s. The chorus occurs predominantly at night in spring and summer, mostly in very shallow waters near the coast. It increases the underwater sound field levels within chorusing regions by 20-30 dB in the 50 Hz to 1 kHz frequency band. The chorus is composed of three parts; 1) a "sunset chorus" which is a 20-to-30 min continuous roar around sunset with received spectral levels up to 100 dB re 1 µPa²/Hz, 2) a "sunrise chorus" of lower level than the sunset chorus, and 3) an all-night-long cycling chorus. The cycling portion is made up of 15-to-20 s periods of higher received spectral levels (up to 90 dB re 1 µPa²/Hz within the chorusing region) each followed by a 10-to-20 s lull in which the spectral levels drop by 4-10 dB. This alternating pattern repeats every 30-40 s throughout the night. The numerical modeling approach is based on the physics of excitable media. A cellular automaton is used to model the two-dimensional spatial grid occupied by the calling animals (units), with each unit being either in the "resting", "excitable", or "active (calling)" state at each time step. Transition from resting to excitable and from active back to resting occurs automatically after a fixed period of time in the present state, whereas the probability of transitioning from excitable to active is determined not only by the elapsed time since entering the excitable state, but also by the received sound level at the unit location, creating a non-linear acoustics-based coupling between units. With appropriate inputs, many determined from measurements of the chorus properties and the individual animal calls themselves, simulations with the model can replicate the cycling levels in the night-long chorus, the continuous din of the sunset chorus, and (once properly initialized) the periodic upcoast evolution of the chorusing region ("The Wave"). When noise from a transiting ship is included in the simulations, the spatiotemporal characteristics of the chorus change appreciably, in ways similar to changes observed during the experiment. Ultrasound imaging has been widely used in clinical examination because of portability, safety, and low cost. However, there are still some main challenges of imaging quality that remain in conventional ultrasound systems. Improving image quality of SA-based methods using an improved imaging mode named far-focus compound (FSC) imaging. A far-focus compound (FSC) imaging based on full-aperture transmission and full-aperture reception is proposed in this paper. In transmission, it uses the full aperture to transmit the focused beam to ensure image resolution and emission of sound field energy. In reception, the full aperture is used to receive the reflected beam to ensure the image quality. A lag-one coherence-based zero-cross factor (LOCZF) is then implemented in FSC for improvement of contrast ratio (CR). The LOCZF uses lag-one coherence as zero-cross factor’s adaptive coefficient. Comparisons were made with several other weighting techniques by performing simulations and experiments for performance evaluation. Results confirm that LOCZF applied to FSC offers a good image contrast and simultaneously the speckle pattern. For simulated cysts, CR improvement of LOCZF reaches 194.1%. For experimental cysts, CR improvement of LOCZF reaches 220%. From the in-vivo result, compared with FSC, CR improvement of LOCZF reaches 112.7%. Proved gCNR performance. In addition, the LOCZF method shows good performance in experiments. The proposed method can be used as an effective weighting technique for improvement of image quality in ultrasound imaging. The miniaturisation, ultra-thinness and high-density multi-layer structure of advanced microelectronic packages complicate the propagation mechanism of ultrasonic waves. In this paper, a finite element model is used to simulate ultrasonic wave propagation in flip chip packages, investigating the laws of transmission and reflection at the lamination boundaries. The acoustic field of ultrasonic transducers is simulated using MATLAB and Abaqus software. The angular spectrum method (ASM) based on the Fourier transform is adopted to more precisely reveal the distribution characteristics and attenuation relationship of near-field ultrasonic waves. The influence of the frequency and size of the ultrasonic transducer on the propagation characteristics of ultrasonic waves is analysed. Based on an acoustic field map generated by the detection model, the waveform conversions of acoustic waves in a multi-layer structure are analysed. The results show that ultrasonic waves are mainly presented in the form of reflected and transmitted waves at the layered interface and the model with a perfectly matched layer (PML) has higher accuracy. Therefore, this method is applied to ultrasonic testing in a flip chip package, which cannot only effectively exclude interference from boundary reflection but also greatly improve the reliability of waveform conversions analysis. A model of nonlinear electron acoustic electrostatic plasma waves having electron beams has been investigated. The structure of Korteweg–de Vries soliton energy and the corresponding electrostatic field have been discussed. The parametric regimes for wave existence of compressive and rarefactive structures have been examined via auroral zone data. Sparse regularization has been successfully applied to equivalent source method (ESM) in order to improve the acoustic imaging resolution. However, the application is not always feasible, especially at low frequencies. To overcome the problem, this paper proposes a high-resolution acoustic imaging method. In this method, reweighted l 1 minimization is introduced to ESM to deal with the ill-posed inverse problems. Then the obtained equivalent source strengths are used to locate the sound sources. Compared to the sparse regularization-based ESM, the proposed method can provide a low side lobe and higher spatial resolution of acoustic imaging. Meanwhile, by arranging equivalent sources in three-dimensional space, the proposed method can also realize the acoustic imaging in three-dimensional sound field with high resolution. The acoustic field calculation model of ultrasonic vibration-mixed cement slurry is established to investigate the preparation and optimization process of the slurry as well as to study the dispersion mechanism of cement particles under the action of ultrasound. The acoustic field distribution of freshly mixed cement slurry in various mixer structures at 20 kHz is calculated by using Finite Element Method (FEM) in conjunction with multi-physical field simulation. The sound field is radially spread and produces a standing wave field with sound pressure amplitude amplified close to the wall. Average sound pressure and ultrasonic effect distance at the mid-axis likewise increase as the outer diameter of the mixer bottom plate increases, and so are the positive and negative sound pressure limits in the cement slurry. The movement of cavitation bubbles can be intensified by ultrasound with a larger acoustic pressure amplitude, hence promoting the ultrasonic cavitation effect. This can be accomplished by solving the Rayleigh–Plesset equation to determine the change rule of cavitation bubbles under the effect of different acoustic pressures. The results show that the narrow space adjacent to the wall and the bottom center of the mixer arch region are the locations of the cavitation effect's core zone when the cavitation numerical simulation is utilized in conjunction with the acoustic field calculation, and the center section is lower in vertical height than the core zone along the wall. Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) aerosol generators, also known as SAW nebulizers or SAW atomizers, are gaining widespread interest in a variety of technical processes due to their ability to produce directed fine mist aerosols with a narrow size distribution and at low shear forces. The interaction of a regulated microscale liquid film with an acoustic wave field on a microfluidic chip surface results in SAW aerosol generation. Future real-world applications require on-chip integrated microfluidic channels for low-cost fabrication of acoustofluidic chips with the required high fluid supply accuracy and reproducibility. In this work, SAW aerosol generation chips employing focused and straight IDTs as well as wafer-scale integrated microfluidic fluid feed channels created by a dry film photoresist multi-stage lamination and lithographic patterning technique were fabricated and validated regarding their performance. The manufactured chips were used with a highly-compact, cost-effective, and easy-to-handle chip holder for experimental studies. Using different SAW chips and liquids, atomization working regimens were determined. The aerosol generator achieved operation at flow rates of 10 μL/min and input power levels of 1 W. The implications of SAW wavelength, IDT type, applied power, liquids, and flow rate on device functionality are explored. Using laser diffraction analysis, it is shown that a simple chip-scale platform is capable of achieving a variable droplet size range. The developed SAW aerosol sources are currently the most advanced demonstrated in the literature and can be used in a variety of technical processes, including mass-spectrometry, olfactory displays, and aerosol-based printing. The scarcity of in-situ ocean observations poses a challenge for real-time information acquisition in the ocean. Among the crucial hydroacoustic environmental parameters, ocean sound velocity exhibits significant spatial and temporal variability and it is highly relevant to oceanic research. In this study, we propose a new data-driven approach, leveraging deep learning techniques, for the prediction of sound velocity fields (SVFs). Our novel spatiotemporal prediction model, ST-LSTM-SA, combines Spatiotemporal Long Short-Term Memory (ST-LSTM) with a self-attention mechanism to enable accurate and real-time prediction of SVFs. To circumvent the limited amount of observational data, we employ transfer learning by first training the model using reanalysis datasets, followed by fine-tuning it using in-situ analysis data to obtain the final prediction model. By utilizing the historical 12-month SVFs as input, our model predicts the SVFs for the subsequent three months. We compare the performance of five models: Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Convolutional LSTM (ConvLSTM), ST-LSTM, and our proposed ST-LSTM-SA model in a test experiment spanning 2019 to 2022. Our results demonstrate that the ST-LSTM-SA model significantly improves the prediction accuracy and stability of sound velocity in both temporal and spatial dimensions. The ST-LSTM-SA model not only accurately predicts the ocean sound velocity field (SVF), but also provides valuable insights for spatiotemporal prediction of other oceanic environmental variables. Power ultrasound is a kind of green and environmentally friendly processing technology. Still, because of its uneven distribution of acoustic pressure in the propagation medium, the large‐scale industrial application of ultrasound is limited. In order to make more effective use of ultrasound waves, this paper uses a counter‐current ultrasound‐assisted extraction container as the geometric model of simulation, calculates the distribution of the acoustic pressure field in the container by COMSOL Multiphysics software, and investigates the effect of acoustic pressure on the fluid field, and temperature field. The simulation results showed that the acoustic pressure increased with the increase of ultrasound power and frequency, tended to balance with the rise of propagation distance, and the cavitation effect was more likely to occur. The propagation of ultrasound in the fluid medium increased the velocity and vorticity of the fluid, which was conducive to the generation of mixing effects. Under the ultrasound pulse working mode for 4 min, the fluid temperature on the central axis increased in a stepped order, with a maximum increase of 19.3°C. We can see that the establishment of the simulation model provides some theoretical guidance for the more practical application of ultrasound in the food industry. Practical Applications: The limitation of ultrasound application mainly lies in the nonuniform distribution of acoustic pressure when ultrasound propagates in the fluid medium. Therefore, mastering the distribution of multiple physical fields in the reaction zone through simulation has important technical support and theoretical guiding significance for designing efficient ultrasound‐assisted extraction equipment and large‐scale industrial production of ultrasound. Currently, the most advanced micromachined microphones on the market are based on a capacitive coupling principle. Capacitive micro-electromechanical-system-based (MEMS) microphones resemble their millimetric counterparts, both in function and in performance. The most advanced MEMS microphones reached a competitive level compared to commonly used measuring microphones in most of the key performance parameters except the acoustic overload point (AOP). In an effort to find a solution for the measurement of high-level acoustic fields, microphones with the piezoelectric coupling principle have been proposed. These novel microphones exploit the piezoelectric effect of a thin layer of aluminum nitride, which is incorporated in their diaphragm structure. In these microphones fabricated with micromachining technology, no fixed electrode is necessary, in contrast to capacitive microphones. This specificity significantly simplifies both the design and the fabrication and opens the door for the improvement of the acoustic overload point, as well as harsh environmental applications. Several variations of piezoelectric structures together with an idea leading to electrically controlled sensitivity of MEMS piezoelectric microphones are discussed in this paper. Direct-acting relief valves are important pressure-control components in hydraulic systems; however, noise problems are now common. This study aimed to reduce and numerically analyze the valve cavitation and noise using the Zwart–Gerber–Belamri (ZBG) model with the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW–H) model to optimize the design based on the sound field perspective. First, a direct-acting relief valve flow field model was established to determine the relationship between the seat structure and the degree of cavitation through a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation. Second, sound field analysis was conducted based on the cavitation and non-cavitation flow fields, respectively, and the resulting noise levels were compared. Finally, prototypes of the relief valve were manufactured, and noise levels between the original and optimized valves were compared. The results revealed that cavitation within the relief valve generated noise while optimizing the valve seat cone angle suppressed this phenomenon, thereby reducing the noise emitted by the optimized valve by 18.2 dB compared to the original valve. This work introduces a comprehensive model of sound propagation on Mars, in light of the recent operation of several microphones on the Martian surface. The main outcome of this work is an operational acoustic model capable of simulating the sound field created by any source, at any location on the Martian surface, at any time. Expanding on the result of previous work (Gillier et al., 2024, https://doi.org/10.1029/2023je008257), we use the parabolic equation method for sound propagation in order to obtain the overall sound field produced by a source, in a given atmospheric composition and state, and accounting for ground properties. The resulting model enables the study of acoustics on Mars, and has the potential also to be used to probe the properties of the Martian environment using acoustic measurements with known sources. We investigate the effects of the Martian ground and the vertical profile of temperature and wind, on sound propagation. We find that the ground has a minor effect on sound propagation, and the wind profile strongly influences sound propagation as on Earth. However, the midday near surface temperature profiles on Mars are shown to cause refraction, which generates non‐negligible acoustic losses that are an order of magnitude stronger than typical refraction‐related acoustic losses on Earth. We show that the effect of the Martian atmospheric turbulence is to slightly reduce the acoustic losses due to refraction. Finally, we apply our model to show that refraction and atmospheric turbulence have a negligible effect on the propagation of sound from Ingenuity to the Perseverance rover. Plain Language Summary: Sound provides new ways for exploring the Martian environment. Whether to examine the characteristics of sound sources on Mars or to infer atmospheric properties from the behavior of sound waves in the Martian atmosphere, an accurate model of sound propagation on Mars is needed. This model must account for the path traveled by the sound waves in the atmosphere as well as their interactions with the planet's surface. We propose a model that allows us to compute the sound that would be received by a microphone depending on its relative position to a source given a set of atmospheric conditions. We investigate the effects of the ground, the vertical gradient of temperature and the wind speed, as well as the effects of atmospheric turbulence. We find that, because of the strong temperature gradient at noon on Mars, sound is bent upwards creating a quieter zone close to the ground. This effect also occurs on Earth, but is much stronger on Mars. High‐energy ultrasound has the effect of purifying the aluminum (Al) melt and improving the uniformity of temperature and flow field distribution. In this article, a finite‐element numerical model of ultrasonic‐assisted casting of 7085 Al alloy melt is established, and the changes of acoustic pressure field, temperature field, and flow field in the solidification process of alloy melt with different ultrasonic power are investigated. In the numerical simulation results, it is shown that the thickness of the 7085 Al melt mushy zone decreases by 89, 97, 108, 114, and 99 mm, respectively, compared without ultrasonic (WNU) when the ultrasonic power is 150, 350, 550, 750, and 950 W. The area of the alloy mushy zone increases by 38.1%, 43.5%, 61.0%, 206.5%, and 45.6%, respectively. According to numerical simulation results, when the ultrasonic power is 750 W, it has the best effect on improving the macroscopic physical field, increasing the mass and heat‐transfer rate in the center of the Al melt. Meanwhile, the experimental results of industrial melting and casting of 7085 large‐scale Al alloy ingots are basically consistent with the numerical simulation, which provide technical support for ultrasonic‐assisted fabrication of large‐scale 7085 Al alloy ingots. This article proposes a new electric–mechanical–hydraulic power coupler (EMHPC). The EMHPC is integrated by a swash plate axial piston pump and permanent magnet synchronous motor, which can realize the conversion of electric, mechanical, and hydraulic energy. To analyze the noise characteristics of the EMHPC, the mathematical models of fluid noise and electromagnetic noise are established, respectively. An optimization model is built based on Isight, and the multi‐island genetic algorithm is used to optimize the triangular groove structure. The optimization results show that the sound pressure level of sound field monitoring points decreases at different frequencies, and the vibration displacement of the cylinder block decreases. The maximum sound pressure level of the directivity curve of the radiated sound field decreases by 9 dB. For the electrodynamic structure optimization of the EMHPC, this article establishes a combination approximation model with higher accuracy. The structure of the stator and rotor is optimized based on the combined approximate model. The optimization results show that the sinusoidal property of the radial air‐gap magnetic density curve is better after optimization, and the harmonic amplitude of the radial electromagnetic force decreases. The maximum sound pressure level in the air domain of the external sound field is reduced from 69 to 60 dB. Moreover, the superposition analysis of fluid noise and electromagnetic noise is carried out, and the main noise sources of the EMHPC in different working modes are determined. Tweezers based on optical, electric, magnetic, and acoustic fields have shown great potential for contactless object manipulation. However, current tweezers designed for manipulating millimeter‐sized objects such as droplets, particles, and small animals exhibit limitations in translation resolution, range, and path complexity. Here, a novel acoustic vortex tweezers system is introduced, which leverages a unique airborne acoustic vortex end effector integrated with a three‐degree‐of‐freedom (DoF) linear motion stage, for enabling contactless, multi‐mode, programmable manipulation of millimeter‐sized objects. The acoustic vortex end effector utilizes a cascaded circular acoustic array, which is portable and battery‐powered, to generate an acoustic vortex with a ring‐shaped energy pattern. The vortex applies acoustic radiation forces to trap and spin an object at its center, simultaneously protecting this object by repelling other materials away with its high‐energy ring. Moreover, The vortex tweezers system facilitates contactless, multi‐mode, programmable object surfing, as demonstrated in experiments involving trapping, repelling, and spinning particles, translating particles along complex paths, guiding particles around barriers, translating and rotating droplets containing zebrafish larvae, and merging droplets. With these capabilities, It is anticipated that the tweezers system will become a valuable tool for the automated, contactless handling of droplets, particles, and bio‐samples in biomedical and biochemical research. In recent years, underwater wireless ultrasonic energy transmission technology (UWUET) has attracted much attention because it utilizes the propagation characteristics of ultrasound in water. Effectively evaluating the performance of underwater ultrasonic wireless energy transmission is a key issue in engineering design. The current approach to performance evaluation is usually based on the system energy transfer efficiency as the main criterion, but this criterion mainly considers the overall energy conversion efficiency between the transmitting end and the receiving end, without an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of the distribution of the underwater acoustic field and the energy loss that occurs during the propagation of acoustic waves. In addition, existing methods focusing on acoustic field analysis tend to concentrate on a single parameter, ignoring the dynamic distribution of acoustic energy in complex aquatic environments, as well as the effects of changes in the underwater environment on acoustic propagation, such as spatial variability in temperature and salinity. These limitations reduce the usefulness and accuracy of models in complex marine environments, which in turn reduces the efficiency of acoustic energy management and optimization. To solve these problems, this study proposes a method to evaluate the performance of underwater ultrasonic energy radiation based on the spatial distribution characteristics of acoustic power. By establishing an acoustic power distribution model in a complex impedance–density aqueous medium and combining numerical simulation and experimental validation, this paper explores the spatial variation of acoustic power and its impact on the energy transfer efficiency in depth. Using high-resolution spatial distribution data and actual environmental parameters, the method significantly improves the accuracy of the assessment and the adaptability of the model in complex underwater environments. The results show that, compared with the traditional method, this method performs better in terms of the accuracy of the acoustic energy radiation calculation results, and is able to reflect the energy distribution and spatial heterogeneity of the acoustic source more comprehensively, which provides an important theoretical basis and practical guidance for the optimal design and performance enhancement of the underwater ultrasonic wireless energy transmission system. Topological pumps enable robust transports of topological states when the system parameters are varied in a cyclic process. The reported topological pumps are protected by the bulk topology. However, the exploration of topological pump protected by other mechanism remains elusive. Here we report our prediction and observation of higher-order topological pumps linked to the boundary topology, i.e., boundary Chern number. Based on such topological pump, the higher-order transports between the topological states of different dimensions (e.g., corner-edge-corner) are directly observed by spatial scanning of the sound field, and their topological robustness is observed in the paths with defects. Furthermore, modulated by the fundamental corner-edge-corner topological transport, topological splitting effects are unambiguously observed in our acoustic experiments. Our findings not only advance the research of the higher-order topological transports, but also offer good platforms to design unconventional devices. Topological pump offers a new perspective on the construction and application of topological states. Based on higher-order topological corner pump, the authors demonstrate some interesting transport phenomena (e.g., topological splitting effect) in a 3D modulated phononic crystal with arbitrarily controllable pumping paths. With the development of acoustic simulation methods in recent decades, it has become feasible to simulate the sound pressure distribution of loudspeakers before actually setting physical speakers and measuring the sound field. The parametric array loudspeaker (PAL) has attracted attention due to its sharp directivity and unique applications. However, the sound reproduced by PALs is generated by the nonlinear interactions of ultrasound in the air, which makes it difficult to simulate the reproduced sound of a PAL with low computational load. Focusing on the sharp directivity of ultrasound, we extended conventional acoustic ray-tracing methods to consider the self-demodulation phenomenon of PALs. In this study, we developed a visualization method for the demodulated sound of a PAL. Specifically, the demodulated sound pressure distribution can be simulated to estimate and visualize the area covered by the reproduced sound of PAL before setting a real PAL. In the proposed method, acoustic rays were generated sequentially to express the generation of demodulated sound. Therefore, the proposed method is expected to simulate the demodulated sound of a PAL with acceptable accuracy and low calculation complexity. Acoustic vortices (AVs) carry orbital angular momentum (OAM), showing great promise in advancing communication, biomedicine, and metrology. An ideal OAM generation method that realizes the tunability of AV topological charge and working frequency in a compact way is strongly desired. Here, we utilize aerodynamic dipole sources from a rotating disk to generate AV. This method generates AVs with different topological charges through the interference of these dipole sources at the angular rotation frequency and its multiples. These AVs exhibit high purity, and their three-dimensional characteristics are explored. Furthermore, our experiment demonstrates that the generated AVs significantly enhance the sound field amplitude at their working frequency, which is the product of the topological charge and angular frequency. The results also verify that this amplitude enhancement effect is positively correlated with the AV's stability and achieves the contactless detection of disk rotation information. The demonstrated method provides expanded versatility for OAM-based applications. The tunability of acoustic vortices topological charge and working frequency is pivotal for efficient optical angular momentum generation, but its manipulation typically involves bulky setups. This paper proposes a distorted hologram data repair approach for sound field reconstruction. In this approach, an equivalent source model is established by placing a set of equivalent sources near the hologram surface to represent the measured hologram pressures. Each hologram pressure is simultaneously assigned an indicator to describe whether its measurement is corrupted by errors or not. This model is then formulated within a modal framework by utilizing the modes generated through the singular value decomposition of the transfer matrix between the hologram and nearby equivalent source surfaces. Subsequently, the indicators and modal coefficients are assigned the 0–1 and Gaussian prior distributions, respectively, and their posterior distributions are derived using the Bayesian method. The means of the posterior distributions are calculated to discriminate corrupted measurements and repair distorted hologram pressures. Repaired hologram pressures are finally utilized for reconstructions using the equivalent source method. Results from both numerical simulations conducted under various parameter settings and two experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in automatically discriminating all the corrupted measurements and accurately repairing the distorted hologram pressures. Furthermore, the accuracy of the reconstructions using the repaired hologram pressures is comparable to that achieved with the correctly measured pressures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The analysis of the field excited in a waveguide by a point noise source is performed using the phase space representation of this field given by the distribution of its amplitude in the depth–angle–time space. The transition from the traditional description of the field amplitude as a function of depth and time to phase space representation is performed using the coherent state expansion developed in quantum mechanics. In this paper, the correlation function of noise signals arriving at different points of the phase plane depth–angle is investigated. Numerical simulation data show that measurements of signal correlations in phase space, performed with the help of a receiving vertical antenna, can be used as input data in solving the problem of source localization and reconstruction of unknown parameters of the sound speed profile. It is shown that in phase space there is an analog of the classical interference pattern observed in the distribution of sound intensity in the distance–frequency plane. The slopes of striations in this interference pattern, as in the conventional one, are given by the Chuprov waveguide invariant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a free-field method for inverse estimation of acoustic porous material parameters from sound pressure measurements above small rectangular samples. The finite sample effect, the spherical propagation of the sound field, and a potential lateral material reaction are considered. Using an extensive series of systematically varied finite element simulations, neural network models are developed to replace computationally expensive simulations as a forward model for the calculation of the complex sound pressure above small samples in the inverse optimization. The method is experimentally validated using various porous material samples. The results show that the influence of the finite sample size is successfully removed and thus, the acoustic properties of the materials can be estimated from the determined porous parameters with high accuracy, even based on a single sound pressure measurement over small samples with pronounced edge diffraction. This study presents the results of three-dimensional (3D) propagation modeling of noise from a transiting bulk carrier vessel. In the simulated scenario, the surface vessel is moving past a bottom-mounted hydrophone system. Sound levels are estimated in decidecade frequency bands as the vessel transits past the hydrophone, and the simulation results are compared against real measured data. The modelling is performed using the program AMPLE, which is based on the wide-angle mode parabolic equation theory for simulating 3D broadband acoustic fields in a shallow sea. The model is used to investigate the effect of 3D phenomena on the surface vessel sound propagation. It is shown that an inaccuracy of the noise simulation associated with the use of a two-dimensional model can be as high as 7–10 dB for certain distances and for frequency bands over which a major part of the source energy is distributed. An approach to the selection of data-adjusted media parameters based on the Bayesian optimization is suggested, and the influence of the various parameters on the sound levels is discussed. Electromagnetic ultrasonic detection technology utilizes the electromagnetic coupling method to generate and receive ultrasonic waves without a couplant, which is suitable for rapid detection. However, the detection can be affected by the spatial distribution of the acoustic field and the polarization direction of the shear wave, which can result in suboptimal detection performance. The acoustic field directivity of the shear wave generated by the butterfly coil electromagnetic acoustic transducer was measured using the transmission method. The data indicate that the acoustic pressure amplitude of the shear wave is maximized along the axis of the acoustic field, thereby meeting the requirements of synthetic aperture focusing technique imaging. We used the reflection method to detect the through-hole defects and investigated the effect of shear wave polarization direction. By comparing the experimental data and imaging results, it can be concluded that higher echo amplitudes are obtained when the polarization direction of the shear wave is perpendicular to the axis of the through-hole defects. Based on the explosive reflection model, the frequency domain phase shift migration (PSM) method converts the time-domain signal to the frequency domain for processing and uses a phase-shift factor for layer-by-layer imaging. Control effects of leading-edge grooves on deep cavity noise are investigated numerically. The length-to-depth ratio of the grooves are 0.5, 1, and 4, respectively. The freestream Mach number is equal to 0.16, corresponding to the Re based on the cavity length of 7.7 × 105. The Detached Eddy Simulations (DES) combined with Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings (FW-H) acoustic analogy are adopted to simulate the characteristic information of the flow field and the acoustic field. The analysis results show that all grooves investigated in this paper have a certain noise control effect, and the groove with the most obvious noise reduction effect is the groove with a length-to-depth ratio of 0.5, namely, the deep groove. Narrowband noise generated by the flow-acoustic feedback (100–700 Hz) and the acoustic resonance mechanism (above 300 Hz) and broadband noise caused by the turbulent disturbance in the shear layer of the cavity mouth significantly reduce when the deep groove is used for the noise control. The reason for the noise reduction is that the leading-edge grooves can effectively change the flow characteristics near the mouth of the downstream cavity. When the flow passes the grooves, the groove flow reduces the energy in the fluid, resulting in the significant decrease of flow velocity of the boundary layer of the incoming flow of the cavity. In addition, the use of the deep groove also promotes the vortex concentration position to move towards the bottom of the cavity, pushes the energy in the shear layer of the downstream cavity towards the front-edge as well as the bottom of the cavity, and stabilizes the development of the shear layer near the cavity mouth. Due to the three-dimensional non-axisymmetric shape of the volute, its interaction with the impeller increases the internal flow field complexity and instability of the marine centrifugal pump, representing the main reason for pump body vibration and hydraulic noise. First, the basic principle of fluid machinery noise calculation was explained based on the Lighthill acoustic analogy method and Curle's theory. Then, the fluid pressure pulsation and flow characteristics of centrifugal pumps were analyzed using the Fluent software, after which the Actran software was used to examine the flow-induced vibration noise properties. The results showed that the clearance size significantly impacted the pump head, while the peak value of the flow-induced vibration response was mainly twice the blade frequency. Although a larger ring clearance increased the structural vibration, it had little impact on the sound pressure level changes in the external sound field. To solve the problem of array detection performance in environments with mesoscale eddies, this study utilizes the Gaussian eddy model to describe the sound speed structure disturbed by eddies. Through numerical simulations, the corresponding sound field is obtained, and the transmission loss influenced by the eddy is analyzed. Furthermore, to investigate the relation between the array gain and spatial correlation in the eddy environments, the differences in vertical correlation at different positions and their effects on the vertical array gain of conventional beamforming (CBF) are studied. When the source is around the eddy center, the conclusions drawn are as follows: (1) The presence of an eddy changes the turning-point depth and the sound field distribution, significantly affecting the direct sound region and the first convergence zone, while having a minor impact on the first shadow zone. (2) In different eddy-induced environments, the first convergence zone maintains a high vertical correlation, but the vertical correlation of the direct sound region is greatly influenced by the eddy. (3) The array gain of CBF is consistent with the vertical correlation. The three-dimensional turbulent mean flow and acoustic field of a supersonic jet impinging on a solid plate is studied computationally using the general purpose CFD code Ansys Fluent. A pressure-based coupled solver formulation with the second order weighted central-upwind spatial discretization is applied to compute transient solutions. Cold and hot jet thermal conditions are considered. Mean flow characteristics are investigated by a steady-state modeling approach. Acoustic radiation of impingement tones is simulated using a transient time-domain formulation. The effects of turbulence in steady-state are modeled by the SST k-ω turbulence model. The Wall-Modeled Large-Eddy Simulation (WMLES) model is applied to compute transient solutions. The near-wall mesh on the impingement plate is fine enough to resolve the viscosity-affected near-wall region all the way to the laminar sublayer. Nozzle-to-plate distance is parameterized in the model for automatic re-generation of the mesh and results. Steady-state predictions of hover lift loss and mean jet velocity distributions are compared with experimental data, and favorable agreement is reported. The transient solution reproduces the mechanism of impingement tone generation by the interaction of large scale vortical structures with the impingement plate. The acoustic near-field is directly resolved by Computational Aeroacoustics (CAA) to accurately propagate impingement tone waves to near-field microphone locations. A model is presented for the scattered acoustic field above a bulky rigid cuboid shape in a rigid plane insonified by an acoustic field. The Kobayashi Potential method and the image sources method were used in order to derive the scattered acoustic field in a modal form. The incident source was then decomposed into plane waves. The total scattered field was determined by summing all the elementary scattered fields. This model was compared to finite element modeling and experimental results for three bulky cuboid shapes in an infinite rigid screen and a rectangular corner insonified by a spherical source. Different types of resonators are used to create acoustic metamaterials and metasurfaces. Recent studies focused on the use of multiple resonators of the dipole, quadrupole, octupole, and even hexadecapole types. This paper considers the theory of an acoustic metasurface, which is a flat surface with a periodic arrangement of multipole resonators. The sound field reflected by the metasurface is determined. If the distance between the resonators is less than half the wavelength of the incident plane wave, the far field can be described by a reflection coefficient that depends on the angle of incidence. This allows us to characterize the acoustic properties of the metasurface by a homogenized boundary condition, which is a high-order tangential impedance boundary condition. The tangential impedance depending on the multipole order of the resonators is introduced. In addition, we analyze the sound absorption properties of these metasurfaces, which are a critical factor in determining their performance. The paper presents a theoretical model for the subwavelength case that accounts for the multipole orders of resonators and their impact on sound absorption. The maximum absorption coefficient for a diffuse sound field, as well as the optimal value for the homogenized impedance, are calculated for arbitrary multipole orders. A scientific approach based on analysis of the acoustic noise intensity, based on the theory of mathematical series, which made it possible to solve successfully the problem of assessing the error of results obtained when conducting experiments to find sound insulation parameters, is presented.
