Increasing physical activity (PA) and/or decreasing sedentary behaviors is important in the delay and prevention of long-term conditions. PA can help maintain function and independence and decrease the need for hospitalization/institutionalization. Activity rates often decline in later life resulting in a need for interventions that encourage uptake and adherence through the use of Behavior Change Techniques (BCTs). We conducted a systematic review of the evidence for interventions that included BCTs in community-dwelling adults with a mean age of 50–70. The review followed PRISMA guidelines. The interventions were psychosocial, nonpharmacological, and noninvasive interventions utilizing components based on BCTs that evaluated change in PA and/or sedentary behavior. Intervention Component Analysis (ICA) was used to synthesize effectiveness of intervention components. Twelve randomized controlled trials were included in this review. The mean sample age was 50–64. Thirteen BCTs were used across all studies, and the most commonly used techniques were goals and planning, feedback and monitoring, and natural consequences. Seven intervention components linked with BCTs were found: personalized goal setting, tailored feedback from facilitators, on-site and postintervention support, education materials and resources, reinforcing change on behavior and attitudes, self-reported monitoring, and social connectedness. All components, except for social connectedness, were associated with improved health behavior and PA levels. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated with participation of community-dwelling older Australians (≥65 years) in the Exercise Right for Active Ageing program, consisting of 12 low- to moderate-intensity group exercise classes, delivered weekly, in person or online, by accredited exercise scientists and physiologists across Australia. Out of 6,949 participants recruited, 6,626 (95%) attended one or more classes and were included in the primary analysis, and 49% of participants attended all 12 classes. Factors associated with higher class attendance included participation in yoga/flexibility/mobility classes, attendance at a free trial class (adjusted incidence rate ratio [95% confidence interval]: 1.05 [1.03, 1.08]), and attending online classes (1.19 [1.11, 1.26]). Factors associated with lower class attendance included state of residence, living in inner regional areas (0.95 [0.93, 0.98]), and having two or more comorbidities (0.97 [0.95, 0.99]). High class attendance suggests that the Exercise Right for Active Ageing program was well received by older Australians, particularly in states less impacted by COVID-19 lockdowns. Physical function is regarded as the cornerstone of healthy aging, and exercise is an important determinant of healthy aging. This study examined the feasibility and physiological (heart rate, blood pressure, blood lactate, and rate of perceived exertion) and psychological (enjoyment) response resulting from an acute progressive sled-push (SLP) exercise session using the novel XPO Sled Trainer in older adults and compared that with walking (WKC) condition. The exercise session comprised six exercise bouts at 75%, 85%, 100% (2×), and 125% (2×) of normal velocity with a 2-min rest between bouts. Thirty-six older adults were randomly allocated into either the SLP or WKC conditions. No adverse events were observed during the exercise session, and all participants completed the exercise protocol as prescribed. One-third of the participants in the SLP group reported minimal body discomfort. Significantly higher responses were observed for all physiological variables as the intensity of the exercise increased in the SLP group compared with the WKC group (p <.001). The SLP group presented a decline in enjoyment as the intensity of the exercise increased (during), but similar enjoyment level than the WKC group for the overall exercise session (p =.711). Our findings support the viability and safety of SLP exercise using the XPO Sled Trainer in older adults. Such exercise demonstrated an intensity-driven modality that may have potential to elucidate positive adaptations in the cardiovascular system of older adults with acceptable levels of enjoyment. The objective of this study was to estimate the extent to which motivational regulations influence physical activity behavior through role identity among people 55 years or older. Participants (N = 409; Mage = 66.29 years [SD = 7.06]) completed online questionnaires to measure motivational regulations, role identity, and the frequency of physical activity in a typical week and in the past month. Mediation analysis using ordinary least squares path analysis revealed that autonomous forms of motivational regulation (positively) and controlled forms of motivational regulation (negatively) influenced role identity, which then positively influenced physical activity behavior. Bootstrap confidence intervals (95%) for the indirect effects (a × b) based on 5,000 bootstrap samples were entirely above or below zero. These findings point to future experimental evaluations of interventions aiming at both increasing and decreasing autonomous and controlled motivational regulations, respectively, to promote physical activity behavior through role identity. The community restrictions during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic adversely impacted older adults' physical activity levels. This convergent mixed-method study assessed the adaptation of the Recreovía, a community-based physical activity program in Bogotá, and characterized physical activity levels among older adult participants. Our results showed how the Recreovía adapted during the pandemic to continue promoting physical activity, through indoor and outdoor strategies, including virtual physical activity sessions and safety protocols. During this time, 72%–79% of the older adults attending the adapted program were physically active. A greater proportion of park users (84.2%) and more people involved in vigorous physical activity were observed during Recreovía days. Older adults had positive experiences and perceptions of the Recreovía program related to their health and social well-being. Even though the older adults prefer being outdoors, the adapted program allowed participants to continue with their physical activity routines as much as possible during the pandemic. This study examined the relationship between loneliness, sedentary behavior, physical exercise, and social participation in Chinese older adults, and provided ideas to formulate preventive strategies that can help reduce loneliness. Data on demographics, health behavior, social participation, and loneliness were collected from a cross-sectional study of 629 older adults in Hefei, Anhui province, from June to August 2020. After adjusting for age, income, religion, marital status, and chronic illness demographic variables, sedentary behavior (β = 0.111, SE = 0.671, p =.001), physical exercise (β = −0.229, SE = 0.358, p <.001), and social participation (β = −0.329, SE = 0.086, p <.001) were found to be significantly correlated with loneliness in older adults. These findings suggest that a higher level of loneliness may be linked to greater sedentary behavior, less social engagement, and decreased physical exercise among older men and women. This qualitative narrative correspondence study investigates older adults' experiences of physical activity (PA) during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns in Aotearoa, New Zealand. This paper presents a reflexive thematic analysis of 501 letters received from 568 participants that discussed PA. Participants described PA as bringing joy and rhythm to daily life under stay-at-home measures. The most frequently discussed forms of PA included exercising, gardening, and housework. Four interconnected conceptual themes identified were as follows: (a) renegotiating environmental relationships, (b) social connection, (c) pleasure and PA, and (d) navigating active aging discourses. This paper emphasizes the important environmental and social motivations for becoming and remaining physically active despite restrictions on movement. Older adults' understandings and performance of PA were heavily shaped by active aging discourses. As such, we suggest that initiatives seeking to promote PA should foreground older adults' feelings of connection, productivity, and pleasure and recognize their diversity. Frailty in later life is often associated with functional declines and reduced quality of life. A multicomponent frailty management program (mFMP) is lacking in Singapore. This study aimed to determine the feasibility and effects of an mFMP in reducing frailty and increasing participation among frail community-living older adults. Pre- and postassessments at three time points were conducted to compare the differences in body functions between the mFMP (experimental group [EG]) and a fitness program (control group [CG]). Recruitment, dropouts, and fall data were collected. Weekly field notes and semistructured interviews postintervention were thematically analyzed. Sixteen out of 23 participants (EG: eight; CG: eight) completed the 12-week interventions with reduced frailty immediately postintervention. At 3-month postintervention, 10 participants (EG: five; CG: five) being followed up had a sustained level of frailty (p <.05). The EG and CG reported zero and two falls, respectively. While masters sport aligns with the holistic concept of active aging, related research has focused predominantly on the physical domain, and less is known about the psychological, cognitive, and social benefits of older adults' participation. This study examined, in combination, the perceived psychological, social, cognitive, and physical benefits of training and competing as a masters athlete, while considering age and gender differences. Forty masters athletes residing in Canada were interviewed (21 men and 19 women; 15 who were 50–64 years and 25 who were 65–79 years), representing 15 different sports. Interviews were coded both deductively and inductively, revealing several subthemes of benefits for the broader perceived psychological, social, cognitive, and physical benefits, with few but notable differences between women and men, and those younger than 65 years and those 65+ years. Our findings provide new insights into the positive experiences of active aging associated with high levels of physical activity among older adults, such as greater self-confidence, especially for women, comradery, and feeling mentally sharper, especially for the older age group. Physical activity is a leading determinant of health and well-being in older adults; however, participation is low. Social support can significantly influence physical activity uptake and maintenance; however, most research is cross-sectional and does not differentiate among types of support. The current study assessed four types of social support for physical activity reported over 9 years by adults aged 60–65 at baseline (n = 1,984). Data were collected using a mail survey at four time points. Data were analyzed using linear mixed models. The most common type of support was emotional, with 25% of participants reporting this often/very often. Total support for activity declined by 16% across the 9 years (p <.001). Companionship had the greatest decline among types (17%–18%, p <.001). Instructors in organized physical activity classes can be a source of social support through their relationships with participants, influence on participants' interactions with each other, and design of activities. Grounded in interpretive description, the objective of this study was to examine older adults' experiences of and their perspectives on group physical activity instructors' supportive behaviors. Observations of 16 group physical activity classes (N = 295) and focus groups or interviews with N = 38 class participants aged ≥ 55 (n = 29 women) were conducted at four municipal recreation facilities in a Canadian city. Five themes shed light on how instructors provided social support: (a) supporting autonomous engagement, (b) developing caring connections, (c) fostering trust through expert instruction, (d) managing conflict directly and effectively, and (e) creating a climate where people want to go. Instructor training should consider older adults' social support needs and help instructors embody behaviors that support continued physical activity participation, thereby contributing to healthy aging. While physical activity ensures healthy aging, rural community-dwelling older women tend to be more physically inactive compared with their counterparts in Malaysia. As social support is one of the key determinants of physical activity, this retrospective, cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence of physical activity and its association with social support among 1,221 rural community-dwelling older women in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The prevalence of physical activity among older women was 45.1% with the highest prevalence reported for housework domain (52.3%). The total mean Duke Social Support index score was 27.24 ± 3.40. Multivariate analysis reported age, employment status, and income level to demonstrate significant association with the physical activity after adjusting for confounders. Older women with an increase in social interaction score were more likely (odds ratio = 1.22; 95% confidence interval [1.10, 1.34]; p <.001) to have high physical activity when adjusted for sociodemographic, health, mental health, and physical disability. Contrarily, older women with an increase in one subjective social support score were less likely (odds ratio = 0.91; 95% confidence interval [0.87, 0.96]; p <.001) to have high physical activity when adjusted for confounders. External connectivity refers to the service opportunities provided by community open spaces that are influenced by the factors such as traffic distance, road conditions, residence patterns, and population distribution. It is an important factor in determining access to community open spaces. This has important implications for promoting walking behavior and community physical activity among aging urban populations. Using the accessibility evaluation method, we proposed an external connectivity of the community open spaces model from the community perspective and conducted an empirical study using the Overseas Chinese Town community in Shenzhen as an example. External connectivity of the community open spaces can be used to evaluate the efficiency of community open spaces, serving as a reference for open space optimization. Little is known about older adults' physical exercise destinations. We studied associations between physical activity (PA) level and physical exercise destinations (total number and surrounding environment) in community-dwelling 75- to 85-year-old adults living in Central Finland. Participants (N = 901) reported the amount of at least moderate-intensity PA and physical exercise destinations. Distance from home, land use, and locations of sport facilities were defined using a geographic information system. A general linear model showed that older adults with higher PA reported higher numbers of physical exercise destinations and destinations further away from home than those reporting lower PA. Binary logistic regression showed that higher PA increased the odds of reporting a distant destination identified as a sports facility and of reporting destinations located in residential, service, forest, and water body areas, respectively. Soft skills are key factors for success in multiple contexts of daily life, as well as for life satisfaction, but little is known about their role in late adulthood and older age. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationships of soft skills, as defined by the World Economic Forum, with two indicators of successful/healthy aging: life satisfaction and cognitive reserve. A sample of 435 adults aged 50 and over completed self-reported measures of soft skills, life satisfaction, and cognitive reserve. As control, fluid (reasoning) and crystalized (vocabulary) intelligence were assessed too, along with socio-demographic characteristics. A series of regression analyses showed that soft skills were positively related to both life satisfaction and, to a lower extent, cognitive reserve, above and beyond gender, age, and both fluid and crystallized intelligence. Interestingly, these associations were independent from participants' age. Overall, these results highlight the importance of considering soft skills also over the middle-late adult life course, due to the potential role of these individual qualities in supporting an individual's well-being and an active and engaged lifestyle, with implications for the promotion of a healthy aging. Background: The Decade of Healthy Aging (2021–2030) emerges as a 10 years strategy to improve the lives of older adults, their families, and the communities in which they live. One of the actions defined in this framework is related to improving the measurement, monitoring, and understanding of characteristics, factors, and needs related to aging and health. The aim was to analyze and assess the process of construction and development of the Strategic Information System on Health, Funcional Dependence and Aging (SIESDE, for its acronym in Spanish). SIESDE will provide strategic information in Mexico at the municipal, state, and national levels that support the public policies on healthy aging. Methods: The system processes and analyzes the data sources of the Health Information Systems and the National System of Statistical and Geographical Information. SIESDE comprises three components: (1) Design, construction, and evaluation of the indicators; (2) storage, management, and visualization, and (3) diffusion and translation of information. Results: A total of 135 indicators were built on seven themes: (1) demographic, socioeconomic, and aging conditions, (2) health, (3) functional dependence, (4) healthy aging, (5) health services, (6) social and physical environments, and (7) complex indicators. This study investigated whether the age of examiner effect, that is, the positive relation between cognitive performance of older people and age of their examiner, relies on stereotype threat. Data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), European Social Survey, European Statistical Office (Eurostat) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe were crossed. Older people from different countries were tested on verbal short‐ and long‐term recall components of memory, by examiners of different ages. Country‐specific indicators of negative age stereotypes, related to the stereotype threat mechanism, were used. We expected that the age of examiner effect would be stronger in countries with more negative age stereotypes. The results replicated the age of examiner effect, but contrary to our hypothesis, this effect was not moderated by countries’ indicators of negative age stereotypes. Negative age stereotypes across countries, such as experienced discrimination among older people, lack of active ageing index, unemployment ratio and perceived negative competence of older people decrease memory. This article provides an overview of the prevalence of elder abuse, highlighting its multifaceted nature, risk factors and the imperative need for intervention and prevention strategies. A synthesis of empirical studies, meta-analyses and reputable sources is used to delineate the prevalence rates and patterns of elder abuse across various geographical regions. Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to assess how age influences masseter vestibular evoked myogenic potential (mVEMP) parameters by utilizing 500-Hz tone burst stimuli delivered through air conduction. Method: The study involved 110 participants ranging from 15 to 60 years of age, grouped into five categories, all of whom had no previous issues related to their vestibular system. The participants were exposed to 500-Hz tone burst stimuli at 125 dB SPL through ER-3A inserts. These stimuli were presented to one ear at a time, with alternating polarity. A Tukey's honestly significant difference test was conducted to compare rectified and unrectified amplitude, along with latencies (P11 and N21) and the asymmetric ratio across all age groups. Additionally, a multivariate analysis of variance was performed to assess the impact of sex on the study variables. Results: All 110 participants (220 ears) in the study provided mVEMP responses, encompassing 100% of the subjects. The results revealed a significant reduction in both amplitude and latency extension for the P11 and N21 peaks. Interestingly, P11 latency was also prolonged in the youngest participants (Group 1), suggesting ongoing maturation of the system even beyond the age of 16 years. Moreover, a significant sex difference was observed in the P11 latencies. However, there were no substantial sex differences (p >.05)inN1peaklatency,peak-to- peak amplitude, rectified amplitude, and asymmetric ratio. Conclusions: Changes in structure occur due to degeneration, and the quantity of vestibular sensory hair cells gradually diminishes with age. The rate of decline is faster in semicircular canals compared to end organs, as observed by Merchant et al. (2000). Following a linear degeneration starting at the age of 40 years, a continuous reduction in sensory cells and primary neurons takes place until approximately 40% of vestibular sensory cells are lost by the age of 75 years and insufficient maturation can lead to prolonged peaks and reduced amplitudes compared with those that are considered normal. Therefore, it is crucial to consider the age of the participants when making diagnoses and incorporate relevant correction factors based on age-related reference data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a unique indicator of underlying distress that may be strongly associated with suicide risk. Despite this, to date, no study has examined the association between MCI and suicidal ideation. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the association between MCI and suicidal ideation among adults aged ≥65 years from 6 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs; China, Ghana, India, Mexico, Russia, and South Africa). Methods Cross-sectional, nationally representative data from the World Health Organization's Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health were analyzed. MCI was defined using the National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer's Association criteria. Self-reported information on past 12-month suicidal ideation was collected. Multivariable logistic regression and meta-analysis were conducted to assess associations. Results Data on 13,623 individuals aged ≥65 years were analyzed. The prevalence of suicidal ideation ranged from 0.5% in China to 6.0% in India, whereas the range of the prevalence of MCI was 9.7% (Ghana) to 26.4% (China). After adjustment for potential confounders, MCI was significantly associated with 1.66 (95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 1.12–2.46) times higher odds for suicidal ideation. Discussion Mild cognitive impairment was significantly associated with higher odds for suicidal ideation among older adults in LMICs. Future longitudinal studies from LMICs are necessary to assess whether MCI is a risk factor for suicidal ideation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In celebration of the National Institute on Aging's (NIA) 50th anniversary, this paper highlights the significant advances in cognitive aging research and the promotion of cognitive health among older adults. Since its inception in 1974, the NIA has played a pivotal role in understanding cognitive aging, including cognitive epidemiology, interventions, and methods, for measuring cognitive change. Key milestones include the shift toward understanding cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD), the development of large-scale longitudinal studies, and the incorporation of AD/ADRD-related biomarkers in cognitive aging cohorts. Additionally, NIA has championed diversifying the scientific workforce through initiatives, such as the Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research and the Butler-Williams Scholars Program. The next 50 years will continue to emphasize the importance of inclusion, innovation, and impactful research to enhance the cognitive health and well-being of older adults. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For centuries, aging was considered inevitable and immutable. Geroscience provides the conceptual framework to shift this focus toward a new view that regards aging as an active biological process, and the biological age of an individual as a modifiable entity. Significant steps forward have been made toward the identification of biomarkers for and measures of biological age, yet knowledge gaps in geroscience are still numerous. Animal models of aging are the focus of this perspective, which discusses how experimental design can be optimized to inform and refine the development of translationally relevant measures and biomarkers of biological age. We provide recommendations to the field, including: the design of longitudinal studies in which subjects are deeply phenotyped via repeated multilevel behavioral/social/molecular assays; the need to consider sociobehavioral variables relevant for the species studied; and finally, the importance of assessing age of onset, severity of pathologies, and age-at-death. We highlight approaches to integrate biomarkers and measures of functional impairment using machine learning approaches designed to estimate biological age as well as to predict future health declines and mortality. The article discusses the National Institute of Aging's (NIA) push for inclusion of diverse older adults in clinical studies as of September 2024. Topics covered include the barriers of comorbidities' exclusion, age limits, concerns on vulnerable persons, and distrust of the healthcare system, and the needs to ensure representation and for appropriate analysis and research expertise in designing trials. Also noted is the NIA's support of initiatives to diversify the research workforce.

Objective: To investigate the impact of yoga on successful aging based on the selection, optimization, and compensation model in elderly women. Design: Quasi‐experimental study. Sample: Seniors' meeting points and parks and clubs for the old age pensioners of the ministry of education, ministry of healthcare, and the oil corporation in Shiraz, Iran. 68 elderly women within the age range of 60–86 years were divided into a yoga and a control group. Measurements: The subjects in both groups were asked to complete the selection, optimization, and compensation model questionnaire before and after the intervention. Successful aging was measured using the selection, optimization, and compensation questionnaire. Intervention: The yoga training program was implemented in 1‐h sessions twice a week for eight weeks. Results: After eight weeks of yoga training, the results showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest successful aging total scores of the yoga group (P =.005). However, the difference between the yoga and control groups' posttest mean total scores was not significant (P =.601). Conclusion: Based on the results, it seems that yoga training can improve successful aging. Thus, yoga is recommended as an inexpensive and entertaining method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Motivating older employees both to prolong their working lives and to stay active even after retirement has become increasingly important due to rising old-age dependency ratios. Later life work—including both paid work and volunteering—has thus become an important topic for scholars and practitioners. We aim to extend research on later life work by hypothesizing that psychological empowerment at work increases not only desired and actual retirement ages but also levels of later life work. Second, we test differential effects of psychological empowerment on later life work, expecting it to be more strongly related to paid work after retirement (i.e., bridge employment) than to volunteering. Third, we suggest that the relationship between psychological empowerment and bridge employment depends on the employees' level of physical limitations. We used data from a longitudinal panel study in Germany in which structured telephone interviews were conducted. A sample of older individuals who had retired between two waves of measurement was drawn (time lag: three years; n = 210). The results of a path analysis support the postulated mediation. Furthermore, as expected, psychological empowerment more accurately predicted bridge employment than volunteering, and physical limitations moderated the relationship between psychological empowerment and bridge employment. Lastly, additional analyses on the individual empowerment facets revealed that only the competence facet played a significant role in the proposed hypotheses. Purpose: Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) measured by peak oxygen consumption (...) declines with aging and correlates with mortality and morbidity. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is the criterion method to assess CRF, but its feasibility, validity, and reliability in older adults are unclear. Our objective was to design and implement a dependable, safe, and reliable CPET protocol in older adults. Methods: ... was measured by CPET, performed using treadmill exercise in 875 adults ≥70 yr in the Study of Muscle, Mobility and Aging (SOMMA). The protocol included a symptom-limited peak (maximal) exercise and two submaximal walking speeds. An adjudication process was in place to review tests for validity if they met any prespecified criteria (... <12.0 mL⋅kg-1⋅min-1; maximum heart rate <100 bpm; respiratory exchange ratio <1.05 and a rating of perceived exertion <15). A subset (N = 30) performed a repeat test to assess reproducibility. Results: CPET was safe and well tolerated, with 95.8% of participants able to complete the // phase of the protocol. Only 56 (6.4%) participants had a risk alert and only two adverse events occurred: a fall and atrial fibrillation. Notwithstanding the oldest-old cohort being the fastest-growing population in most ageing societies, characterizing successful ageing in adults of advanced age, such as nonagenarians and centenarians, remains challenging. This study investigated the successful ageing subphenotypes using the data from Hong Kong Centenarian Study 2. Between April 2021 and September 2022, 146 family caregivers of community-dwelling older adults aged 95 or above were interviewed by phone. Latent class analysis identified three classes— Overall Frail (46.6%) with poor mobility, cognitive and functional health, Nonambulant (37.0%) but good functional health, and Robust (16.4%) with overall good health—from 11 indicators based on caregivers' reports. Although we found a low prevalence of fulfillment of all indicators of successful ageing, our findings will help care professionals appreciate the heterogeneity underlying partial successful ageing in this vulnerable cohort for segmented and targeted healthy longevity interventions. Osteoporosis is a chronic, progressive metabolic disease associated with a decrease in bone density. With the onset of menopause, women experience serious bone loss and the development of osteoporosis. The purpose of the study is to identify risk factors for the development of osteoporosis among women of active age of Bulgarian and Roma origin. Results: A total of 417 women of working age participated in the study, divided into two groups: Bulgarian and Roma. The results show statistical differences between the two groups for the risk factor - early menopause occurring before the age of 45 and having a first child before the age of 18. About other non-modifiable risk factors: data on previous fractures and close relatives with fractures, height reduction, diseases or taking medications that increase the risk of developing osteoporosis, no differences were found. Conclusion: Knowing the risk factors characteristic of women of different ethnic origins, with differences in culture, education, socio-economic status and health behaviour is important for the creation of adequate preventive activities for individual risk groups. Osteoporosis is a chronic, progressive metabolic disease that leads to a decrease in bone density. It affects the population of all countries of the world and can lead to disability and significantly worsen the quality of life of patients. The condition in which bone density is below normal reference values, but not low enough to be diagnosed with osteoporosis, is called osteopenia. Change in bone health can begin at a young age, so early prevention should be a public health challenge. Decreased bone density in young women can be caused by a variety of factors, such as genetics, lifestyle, dietary habits, physical activity, and socioeconomic conditions. This study aims to identify risk factors related to lifestyle, adversely affecting bone health among able-bodied women of two different ethnicities - Bulgarian and Roma. A total of 417 women of active age participated in the study, divided into two groups according to their ethnicity. The results show statistical differences between the two groups in lifestyle and harmful habits affecting bone health. Regarding the other modifiable risk factors: smoking, excessive alcohol use and caffeinated beverages, we found a statistically significant difference, only for alcohol consumption. Adherence to a diet for weight loss, as a risk factor for unbalanced nutrition and lack of vitamins and minerals necessary for bones, shows a statistically significant difference, Bulgarian women gave a higher relative share for this risk factor. Conclusion: Knowledge of the condition "osteopenia" as well as lifestyle risk factors among women of active age will improve bone health and bone mineral density and prevent the development of osteoporosis. Background: This study explores the perceptions of supported accommodation staff and their managers of the support needs of residents ageing with intellectual disabilities, and their experiences of adjusting services for this group in the context of individualised funding. Method: Qualitative interviews were conducted with 21 staff working in Australian supported accommodation services. Findings: Four themes emerged. The first captured the staff's limited understanding of ageing and the medicalisation of support needs. The second identified staff practices and adjustments to service provision to facilitate residents' healthy ageing. The third described staff commitment to facilitating ageing residents to age in place, and the fourth identified staff challenges and opportunities in supporting ageing residents in the context of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Conclusions: Findings may inform the development of practice guidelines and training for supported accommodation staff, protocols for intersections between disability, aged care and health sectors, and adequate policy responses to support older residents' healthy ageing. Calorie restriction (CR) is a robust intervention that can slow biological aging and extend lifespan. In the brain, terminally differentiated neurons and glia accumulate oxidative damage with age, reducing their optimal function. We investigated if CR could reduce oxidative DNA damage to white matter oligodendrocytes and microglia. This study utilized post-mortem brain tissue from rhesus monkeys that died after decades on a 30 % reduced calorie diet. We found that CR subjects had significantly fewer cells with oxidative damage within the corpus callosum and the cingulum bundle. Oligodendrocytes specifically showed the greatest response to CR with a robust reduction in DNA damage. Additionally, we observed alterations in microglia morphology with CR subjects having a higher proportion of ramified, homeostatic microglia and fewer pro-inflammatory, hypertrophic microglia relative to controls. Furthermore, we determined that the observed attenuation in damaged DNA occurs primarily within mitochondria. Although the long-term consequences of informal care provision have been well investigated, few studies have examined the trajectories of informal care provision among older people and the socioeconomic, demographic, health, and family characteristics associated with them. We use data from four waves of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, with 6561 respondents followed for 6 years (2012/3–2018/9). We used group-based trajectory modelling to group people's provision of care over time into a finite number of distinct trajectories of caregiving. Using multinomial logistic regressions, we then investigated the characteristics associated with these trajectories. Four distinct trajectories of caregiving were identified: "stable intensive", "increasing intensive", "decreasing", and "stable no care". Results suggest that although there are socioeconomic, demographic, and health differences across the trajectories of caregiving (with younger women in good health and poorer socioeconomic status more likely to care intensively throughout), family characteristics are their main drivers. Respondents who live alone, with no children, and no parents alive are more likely to never provide care, whereas those with older parents and who live with adults in poor health are more likely to provide stable intensive care. Also, changes in family characteristics (e.g. death of parents, widowhood, or deterioration of the partner's health) are associated with trajectories representing increases or decreases in caregiving over time. Overall, trajectories of informal caregiving undertaken by older people are varied and these patterns are mostly associated with both the availability and health of family members, suggesting that need factors represent the most immediate reason for caregiving commitments. Introduction: Neurobiological changes in the hippocampus are a common consequence of aging. However, there are differences in the rate of decline and overall volume loss in people with no cognitive impairment compared to those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). This systematic literature review was conducted to determine the relationship between hippocampal atrophy and changes in hippocampal volume in the noncognitively impaired brain and those with MCI or AD. Methods: This systematic review was guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology. The PubMed database was searched up to September 15, 2022, for longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging studies reporting hippocampal atrophy or volume change in cognitively normal aging individuals and patients with MCI and/or AD. Study selection was divided into two steps: (1) identification and retrieval of relevant studies; (2) screening the studies by (a) title/abstract and (b) full text. Two teams, each consisting of two independent reviewers, determined whether the publications met the inclusion criteria for the systematic review. An evidence table was populated with data extracted from eligible publications and inclusion in the final systematic review was confirmed. Results: The systematic search identified 357 publications that were initially screened by title/abstract, of which, 115 publications were retrieved and reviewed by full text for eligibility. Seventeen publications met the eligibility criteria; however, during data extraction, two studies were determined to not meet the inclusion criteria and were excluded. The remaining 15 studies were included in the systematic review. Overall, the results of these studies demonstrated that the hippocampus and hippocampal subfields change over time, with both decreased hippocampal volume and increased rate of hippocampal atrophy observed. Hippocampal changes in AD were observed to be greater than hippocampal changes in MCI, and changes in MCI were observed to be greater than those in normal aging populations. Conclusion: Published literature suggests that the rate of hippocampal decline and extent of loss is on a continuum that begins in people without cognitive impairment and continues to MCI and AD, and that differences between no cognitive impairment, MCI, and AD are quantitative rather than qualitative. This study provides insights into the self-directed learning (SDL) abilities of middle-aged and older adult learners engaged in senior adult education. The study aims to explore both the levels of SDL abilities and the factors associated with these abilities. Additionally, this study delves into the demographic variations in SDL abilities, considering factors such as gender, age, and educational attainment. While active aging encourages middle-aged and older individuals’ engagement in social, physical, and intellectual activities, existing SDL scales mainly focus on healthcare, neglecting the learning needs of middle-aged and older adult learners in fostering active aging. A cross-sectional study approach was adopted. A purposive sample of 866 middle-aged and older adult learners (80.4% female) enrolled in senior learning centers. The data collected from the participants revealed an average SRSSDL score of 3.36 out of 5, indicating a moderate to high level of SDL proficiency. Furthermore, the results indicate significant differences between age groups and educational attainment levels. The study can help educators identify middle-aged and older adult learners enrolled in senior learning centers who lack SDL ability and design tailor-made educational interventions to promote self‐learning management and/or enable active aging. Themotoric cognitive risk syndrome (MCR) is a syndrome characterized by subjective memory complaints and slowwalking speeds that can identify older adults at increased risk for developing Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia (ADRD). To date, the feasibility of community-based physical activity (PA) programs for improving outcomes in MCR have yet to be examined. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a translational randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing 24-weeks of PA to a healthy aging education (HE) control intervention delivered within the infrastructure of an urban senior center in Greater Boston (clincaltrials.gov identifier: NCT03750682). An existing senior center employee was trained to administer the multimodal groupbased PA program that included moderate-intensity aerobic walking, strength, flexibility and balance training. A total of 79 older adults attended the senior center for a screening visit, of whom 29met the MCR criteria and 25 were randomized to PA orHE(meanage: 74.4±7years; BMI: 32.4±7kg/m2;85%female; 3MSE score: 92.4± 7; gait speed: 0.52 ± 0.1 m/s; SPPB score 4.8 ± 1.9). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the study was stopped prematurely. Participants could successfully adhere to the study interventions (overall attendance rate: PA: 69% vs. HE:70% at study termination). Participants also successfully completed baseline and follow-up study assessments that included a computerized cognitive testing battery and objective tests of physical performance and functional exercise capacity. No study-related adverse events occurred. Notable trends for improved cognitive performance, gait speed and 6- minwalk distancewere exhibited in PA compared to HE.Our study provides important preliminary information to aid the design of larger-scale RCTs of PA that may help to preserve the independence of vulnerable older adults at high risk for ADRD in community-based settings. Homocysteine (Hcy) is a cardiovascular risk factor implicated in cognitive impairment and cerebrovascular disease but has also been associated with Alzheimer's disease. In 160 healthy older adults (mean age = 69.66 ± 9.95 years), we sought to investigate the association of cortical brain volume with white matter hyperintensity (WMH) burden and a previously identified Hcy-related multivariate network pattern showing reductions in subcortical gray matter (SGM) volumes of hippocampus and nucleus accumbens with relative preservation of basal ganglia. We additionally evaluated the potential role of these brain imaging markers as a series of mediators in a vascular brain pathway leading to age-related cognitive dysfunction in healthy aging. We found reductions in parietal lobar gray matter associated with the Hcy-SGM pattern, which was further associated with WMH burden. Mediation analyses revealed that slowed processing speed related to aging, but not executive functioning or memory, was mediated sequentially through increased WMH lesion volume, greater Hcy-SGM pattern expression, and then smaller parietal lobe volume. Together, these findings suggest that volume reductions in parietal gray matter associated with a pattern of Hcy-related SGM volume differences may be indicative of slowed processing speed in cognitive aging, potentially linking cardiovascular risk to an important aspect of cognitive dysfunction in healthy aging. Ageing is characterized by a gradual decline in the efficiency of physiological functions and increased vulnerability to diseases. Ageing affects the entire body, including physical, mental, and social well-being, but its impact on the brain and cognition can have a particularly significant effect on an individual's overall quality of life. Therefore, enhancing lifespan and physical health in longevity studies will be incomplete if cognitive ageing is over looked. Promoting successful cognitive ageing encompasses the objectives of mitigating cognitive decline, as well as simultaneously enhancing brain function and cognitive reserve. Studies in both humans and animal models indicate that cognitive decline related to normal ageing and age-associated brain disorders are more likely linked to changes in synaptic connections that form the basis of learning and memory. This activitydependent synaptic plasticity reorganises the structure and function of neurons not only to adapt to new environments, but also to remain robust and stable over time. Therefore, understanding the neural mechanisms that are responsible for age-related cognitive decline becomes increasingly important. In this review, we explore the multifaceted aspects of healthy brain ageing with emphasis on synaptic plasticity, its adaptive mechanisms and the various factors affecting the decline in cognitive functions during ageing. Introduction: This Practice Update discusses the potential for implementation of the 4M model for care of older adults in Israel, to complement the medical-centric model that exists today. The older adult population in Israel is increasing. However, efficient and sufficient care that takes patient's wishes into consideration is lacking. Purpose: Care of older adults, particularly palliative patients, is complex and requires multidisciplinary efforts. There are numerous challenges to caring for older adults. These include fragmentation of care, unclear boundaries between palliative and geriatric care, and the preservation of patient autonomy, indicating a need to adopt new care frameworks. Conclusion: The authors suggest implementing the 4M model as a new care framework in addition to the current medical-centric model. This framework considers important care aspects during discussions of care: what matters to the patient, medication, mentation, and mobility. The impact of global population aging on older adults' health and emotional well-being is examined in this study, emphasizing innovative technological solutions to address their diverse needs. Changes in physical and mental functions due to aging, along with emotional challenges that necessitate attention, are highlighted. Gaze estimation and interactive art are utilized to develop an interactive system tailored for elderly users, where interaction is simplified through eye movements to reduce technological barriers and provide a soothing art experience. By employing multi-sensory stimulation, the system aims to evoke positive emotions and facilitate meaningful activities, promoting active aging. Named "Natural Rhythm through Eyes", it allows for users to interact with nature-themed environments via eye movements. User feedback via questionnaires and expert interviews was collected during public demonstrations in elderly settings to validate the system's effectiveness in providing usability, pleasure, and interactive experience for the elderly. Key findings include the following: (1) Enhanced usability of the gaze estimation interface for elderly users. (2) Increased enjoyment and engagement through nature-themed interactive art. (3) Positive influence on active aging through the integration of gaze estimation and interactive art. Within this, resveratrol is a compound that has been shown to act as a potent antioxidant. However, few studies highlight the cellular signaling pathways that are activated or inhibited during aging and that are responsible for this biological effect.To verify the antioxidant profile of resveratrol (5 μM) in leukocytes from donors in different age groups.The project was approved by the Ethics Committee. Individuals were divided into three groups: 20–39, 40–59, and 60–80 years old. After separating the leukocytes, assays were performed to evaluate the AMPK (AMP‐activated protein kinase) and Nrf2 (erythroid nuclear factor 2‐related factor 2) pathways. In addition, luciferase assay and enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay were performed to evaluate transcription factor activation and Nrf2 expression, respectively. The analysis between age and treatment was performed using Pearson correlation (*P < 0.05).There was a reduction in the antioxidant effect of resveratrol during the aging process. In leukocytes from donors over 60 years of age, the AMPK pathway was silenced. Nrf2 was active at all ages. There was an increase in the activation of the transcription factor and phosphorylated protein in all age groups.Nrf2 is an important biochemical mechanism responsible for the antioxidant effect of resveratrol. Background: Falls in older adults significantly impact overall health and healthcare costs. Intrinsic capacity (IC) reflects functional reserve and is an indicator of healthy aging. Aims: To explore the association between IC and recent falls (≤ 90 days) in community-dwelling octogenarians from the Aging and Longevity in the Sirente geographic area (IlSIRENTE) study. Methods: The Minimum Data Set for Home Care (MDS−HC) and supplementary questionnaires and tests were used to assess the five IC domains: locomotion, cognition, vitality, psychology, and sensory. Scores in each domain were rescaled using the percent of maximum possible score method and averaged to obtain an overall IC score (range 0−100). Results: The study included 319 participants (mean age 85.5 ± 4.8 years, 67.1% women). Mean IC score was 80.5 ± 14.2. The optimal IC score cut-off for predicting the two-year risk of incident loss of at least one activity of daily living (ADL) was determined and validated in a subset of 240 individuals without ADL disability at baseline (mean age 84.7 ± 4.4 years, 67.1% women). Participants were then stratified into low (< 77.6) and high (≥ 77.6) IC categories. Those with high IC (63.9%) were younger, more often males, and had lower prevalence of recent falls, disability, multimorbidity, and polypharmacy. Logistic regression models including IC as a continuous variable revealed a significant association between higher IC and lower odds of falls. This association was significant in the unadjusted (odds ratio [OR] 0.96, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.94–0.98, p < 0.001), age- and sex-adjusted (OR 0.96, 95% CI 0.94–0.98, p < 0.001), and fully adjusted models (OR 0.96, 95% CI 0.93–0.99, p = 0.003). When considering IC as a categorical variable, unadjusted logistic regression showed a strong association between high IC and lower odds of falls (OR 0.31, 95% CI 0.16–0.60, p < 0.001). This association remained significant in both the age- and sex-adjusted (OR 0.30, 95% CI 0.15–0.59, p < 0.001) and fully adjusted models (OR 0.33, 95% CI 0.16–0.82, p = 0.007). The locomotion domain was independently associated with falls in the unadjusted (OR 0.98, 95% CI 0.97–0.99, p < 0.001), age- and sex-adjusted (OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.96–0.99, p < 0.001), and fully adjusted model (OR 0.98, 95% CI 0.96–0.99, p < 0.001). Discussion: This is the first study using an MDS−HC-derived instrument to assess IC. Individuals with higher IC were less likely to report recent falls, with locomotion being an independently associated domain. Conclusions: Lower IC is linked to increased odds of falls. Participation is widely recognized as an important health determinant for older adults. Exploring interventions to promote active participation of community-dwelling older adults is an important step in translating current knowledge into practice. Few studies have examined community-level interventions to support older adults' participation. The study purpose was to examine the significance of the lived experiences of community-dwelling older adults who participated in an interprofessional healthy aging promotion program. The specific aims were to uncover the narrative significance of the lived experiences and how they evolved and intertwined with the life histories of the older adults 2 years after the intervention ended. A narrative inquiry design was used. Four key informants participated in two semi-structured interviews and a member-checking process. The data were analyzed from a three-dimensional inquiry space of time and continuity, place and context, and social interactions. The findings affirmed three core threads that wove the participants' lived experiences within the program together with their life histories after the intervention. These were enjoyment, learning, and sharing. Four themes revealed the essential elements of the lived experience, and three others exposed participants' growth and life enrichment, all being fundamental to participation. The 3-year community-level intervention was valued and a novel opportunity for facilitating participation and successful aging. It allowed the participants to acquire an evolved vision of self, have meaningful interactions, develop the means to engage in future community activities, implement new self-care strategies, and establish memories and friendships significant for life participation. Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and changing trends of syphilis in Aksu region from 2008 to 2023, and to predict the montlily incidence rate of syphilis reports in Aksu region from 2024 to 2025, in order to provide a basis for improving syphilis prevention and control strategies and measures. Methods Individual case data of syphilis cases in Aksu region from 2008 to 2023 were collected through the Infectious Disease Surveillance System of China CDC. Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the reported syphilis cases in Aksu region from 2008 to 2023, and a Prophet model was established to predict the monthly incidence rate of syphilis reports in Aksu region for 2024 to 2025. Results In total 46 613 syphilis cases were reported in Aksu region from 2008 to 2023, and the reported incidence rate of syphilis increased from 1L06/100 000 in 2008 to 251.90/100 000 in 2023, showing an overall increasing trend with an annual percentage change (APC) of 10.59%. The reported incidence rate of early -stage syphilis (primary and secondary syphilis) showed a decreasing trend (APC=-11.98%), while the reported incidence rate of latent syphilis showed an increasing trend (APC=14.87%). Latent syphilis was the main reported type (39 283 cases, 84.28%). The reported incidence rate of syphilis in males increased faster than that in females, with APC values of 11.00% and 10,20%, respectively, while the incidence rate in males was lower than that in females. Individuals of age groups of 20 to 49 years and over 60 years accounted for the majority of reported cases (38 643 cases, 82.90%), with farmers being the main occupational group (32 087 cases, 68,84%), and married or cohabiting individuals accounting for the majority (32 849 cases, 70.47%). Shaya and Kuqa cities had the highest cumulative reported cases in the region, with Kuqa city showing the fastest increase in syphilis reported incidence rate, with an APC value of 15.34%, Based on the Prophet model, the RMSE, MAPE, and MAE values for the syphilis incidence rate test set in 2023 were 3.25, 10.93%, and 2.4& respectively. The predicted results showed that the highest monthly syphilis incidence rates in Aksu region for 2024 and 2025 were both in May, with predicted values of 3035/100 000 (95%CI: 27.87-33.05) and 34,60/100 000 (95%CZ: 31.64-37.44), respectively, while the lowest were both in January, with predicted values of 17,01/100 000 (95%CI: 14.36-19.56) and 19.58/100 000 (95%CI: 16.91-22.35), respectively, consistent with the historical trends of reported incidence rates. Conclusion The syphilis epidemic in Aksu region is on the rise, posing a severe challenge for prevention and control. It is necessary to focus on implementing public health intervention strategies for the sexually active population aged 20 to 49 and the elderly population aged 60 and above, as well as for farmers, in order to contain the spread of syphilis. Objective To analyze the current status and influencing factors of social participation among the elderly and explore the effect of digital literacy on social participation. Methods A total of 1 123 individuals aged 60 and above were selected as the study subjects from the "2021 China Family Health Index Survey". Descriptive analysis using composition ratios and rates was conducted, and chi-square test and binary logistic regression were employed to investigate the effect of digital literacy on social participation. Results The social participation rates of elder adults at the societal, familial, and individual levels were 73.9%, 81.2%, and 874%, respectively. Regression analysis results showed that individuals being males (OR = 1.646: 95%CI: 1.230-2.202), with college education or above (OR =2.127, 95%CI: 1.201-3.766), frequent usage of smartphones (OR=2.459, 95%CI: 1.441-4.194), and frequent usage of tablet computers (Oi-=3.953, 95%CI: 1,637-9,548) were more likely to engage in social participation at the societal level, elderadults being male (Oi-=1.720, 95%CI: 1250-2,368), with no debt (Oi-=0.495, 95%CI: 0334-0,733), frequent usage of smartphones (02- =2.545, 95%CI: 1.448-4473), and occasional usage of tablet computers (OR =3.532, 95%CI: 1,607-7.764) were more likely to engage in social participation at the familial level. Elder adults with a spouse (Oi-=2.877!I 95%CI: 1389-5.961) and occasional usage of smartphones (OR=3.533, 95%CI: 1.871-6.674) were more likely to engage in social participation at the individual level. Conclusion The social participation level of the elderly population is relatively high, and the influencing factors of social participation vary across different levels. Digital literacy has a significant positive impact on the social participation of elder adults. It is recommended to strengthen aging-friendly renovations and prevention of digital addiction, broaden and simplify the access to digital technology services, and unleash the hidden advantages of intergenerational support in the digital realm. As the population continues to age, there is increasing academic attention to the construction of an elderly-friendly social environment. Guided by active aging, it is crucial to adapt transportation infrastructure to the needs of the elderly and implement corresponding service management measures. Given China's significant elderly population, the urgent need arises to create age-friendly public transportation environments. Currently, several challenges exist, including the exploration of transportation planning for the elderly, traditional planning's lack of responsiveness to diverse travel patterns among the elderly, and the necessity to strengthen governance measures in establishing age-friendly public transportation environments. This study investigates the developmental process, key considerations, and governance strategies of transportation service planning for vulnerable groups in Florida. It explores the characteristics of participatory planning processes, differentiated transportation service strategies, and systematic governance measures, aiming to provide valuable insights into China's efforts in constructing an age-friendly public transportation environment. Taking into account China's national context and the current state of population aging, the study proposes the following three recommendations: Develop transportation service plans that cater to the specific needs of the elderly, with a focus on creating a favorable policy environment. This involves establishing a collaborative, multi-level planning and governance system for vulnerable groups, promoting the integration of "age-friendly" design and "elderly-assistance" services. Fully consider regional and individual differences, tailor construction targets and governance strategies accordingly, and propose refined transformation and governance approaches. Advocate for a governance model that combines "full participation" and "technological empowerment," effectively addressing the needs of the elderly. This includes enhancing the involvement of the elderly in the creation of age-friendly public transportation and achieving a cooperative and shared governance approach to age-friendly transportation. Purpose: Growing elderly populations worldwide have sparked interest in factors promoting healthy aging. Diet and other lifestyle patterns are key factors for healthy ageing; however, evidence is sparse for specific dietary guidelines that are easily implemented in everyday life. Whole grains constitute specific dietary components with unexplored potential in healthy ageing. Methods: We applied an illness-death multistate model to assess the association between whole-grain intake and life expectancy, both with and without disease, over a 20-year period. Healthy ageing was defined as absence of cancer, ischemic heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and dementia during follow-up. Results: Based on information from 22,606 men and 25,468 women in the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health cohort, followed for an average of 13.8 and 17.5 years, respectively, a doubling in whole-grain intake was associated with 0.43 (95% CI: 0.33–0.52) and 0.15 (0.06–0.24) additional years without disease for men and women, respectively. Comparing the highest and lowest quartiles of whole-grain intake, with a special emphasis on men, we found that those with the highest intake lived, on average, one year longer without disease compared to those with the lowest intake. Additionally, although a high intake of whole grains yielded longer life expectancy, the duration of living with disease was shorter. Background and aims: Drug‐related deaths in Scotland more than doubled between 2011 and 2020. To inform policymakers and understand drivers of this increase, we estimated the number of people with opioid dependence aged 15–64 from 2014/15 to 2019/20. Design: We fitted a Bayesian multi‐parameter estimation of prevalence (MPEP) model, using adverse event rates to estimate prevalence of opioid dependence jointly from Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT), opioid‐related mortality and hospital admissions data. Estimates are stratified by age group, sex and year. Setting: Scotland, 2014/15 to 2019/20. Participants: People with opioid dependence and potential to benefit from OAT, whether ever treated or not. Using data from the Scottish Public Health Drug Linkage Programme, we identified a baseline cohort of individuals who had received OAT within the last 5 years, and all opioid‐related deaths and hospital admissions (whether among or outside of this cohort). Measurements Rates of each adverse event type and (unobserved) prevalence were jointly modelled. Findings The estimated number and prevalence of people with opioid dependence in Scotland in 2019/20 was 47 100 (95% Credible Interval [CrI] 45 700 to 48 600) and 1.32% (95% CrI 1.28% to 1.37%). Of these, 61% received OAT during 2019/20. Prevalence in Greater Glasgow and Clyde was estimated as 1.77% (95% CrI 1.69% to 1.85%). There was weak evidence that overall prevalence fell slightly from 2014/15 (change −0.07%, 95% CrI ‐0.14% to 0.00%). The population of people with opioid dependence is ageing, with the estimated number of people aged 15–34 reducing by 5100 (95% CrI 3800 to 6400) and number aged 50–64 increasing by 2800 (95% CrI 2100 to 3500) between 2014/15 and 2019/20. Conclusions: The prevalence of opioid dependence in Scotland remained high but was relatively stable, with only weak evidence of a small reduction, between 2014/15 and 2019/20. Increased numbers of opioid‐related deaths can be attributed to increased risk among people with opioid dependence, rather than increasing prevalence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
