Abstract

With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) are becoming essential for many applications. One of the most emblematic IoT/M2M applications is smart buildings. The current Building Automation Systems (BAS) are limited by many factors, including the lack of integration of IoT and M2M technologies, unfriendly user interfacing, and the lack of a convergent solution. Therefore, this paper proposes a better approach of using heterogeneous wireless networks consisting of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and Mobile Cellular Networks (MCNs) for IoT/M2M smart building systems. One of the most significant outcomes of this research is to provide accurate readings to the server, and very low latency, through which users can easily control and monitor remotely the proposed system that consists of several innovative services, namely smart parking, garden irrigation automation, intrusion alarm, smart door, fire and gas detection, smart lighting, smart medication reminder, and indoor air quality monitoring. All these services are designed and implemented to control and monitor from afar the building via our free mobile application named Raniso which is a local server that allows remote control of the building. This IoT/M2M smart building system is customizable to meet the needs of users, improving safety and quality of life while reducing energy consumption. 8. A Smart Home Management based on M2M/IoT Technologies

Abstract

The advances in the applications based on Machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) enabled the evolution of Smart home solutions wirelessly. This paper aims to present the implementation of smart homes based on M2M/IoT technologies using wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this system, Arduino Uno microcontroller has been used with several compatible sensors, actuators, and modules to make the control and take the suitable decision. In addition, various technologies of communication such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and GSM are used as wireless communication mediums to enable the interaction between users and the proposed system. Our Smart home implements integrated functions and services like security, indoor care, and outdoor care. A simple smartphone remotely controls these functions through our mobile application named ���Raniso���. The experimental results of using the proposed system show that a variety of events can be detected and monitored efficiently. Gas leakage, fire, and housebreaking situations can be detected and users get notified about them via Calls and messages. Also, lights, temperature monitoring, and fans can be easily controlled remotely. Besides, the proposed system can perform some proper actions including decreasing gas concentration via the opening of windows, watering the garden when the soil is dry, saving the rainwater, and so on. Our smart home system is very utile to prevent losses in resources and human life caused by undesired events as also it conserves energy and provides comfort.

9. Application of M2M Communication based on ZigBee to Control Smart home automation

Abstract

Nowadays, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication plays an interesting role in wired and wireless technologies. This communication can be applied in many domains such as health, industry, home automation, etc. In this paper, we present an important domain of use for M2M: home automation based on ZigBee wireless technology. Our choice of ZigBee instead of other communication technologies is due that is more suited to in-home networking for many reasons of security, ease, and energy efficiency. Our approach proposes an M2M home automation system based on XBee and Arduino, where Arduino UNO represents the brain and XBee module as the wireless communication. In this paper, we also describe our proposed system which consists of two important parts: unit control system and remote control system. Unit control is based on sensors, actuators, a microcontroller, and an XBee module as a transmitter system. The remote control contains actuators, a microcontroller, and another XBee module as a receiver. Our smart home automation has several functions such as gas and fire detection, automatic lighting, temperature acquisition, fan control, and DC motor control. This is to minimize human effort by remotely running different appliances, assure security and comfort, and save energy. The introduced prototype is implemented and tested and it gave exactly the expected results, where we succeeded in realizing a model of M2M smart home automation based on ZigBee.

15. GNSS Signals Acquisition and Tracking in Unfavorable Environment

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a method based on applying specific transformations to the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals received in unfavorable environment. As a result, one simple classical receiver including these adjustments becomes sensitive to several Multi-Constellation and Multi-Frequency (MC/MF) GNSS signals and achieves efficiently their collective acquisition. The proposed method consists of three variants each dedicated to a particular type of Binary Offset Carrier (BOC) family signals; the primary is based on undersampling process, the second is founded on time expansion and the last one permits the acquisition of more than five different GNSS signals by a single local Composite Binary Coded Symbols (CBCS) waveform replica. Hence, the proposed scheme, by avoiding the use of multiple demodulators in the baseband, allows less receiver complexity and accordingly better realization cost. The simulation results showed that the proposed method presents an effective solution for the reception of MC/MF signals in unfavorable environments.
