Aim: Thyroid nodules are a common condition. For this reason, surgeons have lots of operation in this area. There are basic rules that patients should follow after this surgery. In this study, It is aimed to determine the adaptation of patients to follow-up, medicine, and diet after a total thyroidectomy. Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 108 patients in the Endocrinology and internal Medicine Clinics at Dr. Sadi Konuk Education and Research Hospital and the Department of Endocrinology. The data were collected using the Patient Assessment Form, the Beliefs About Medication Compliance Scale (BMCS) and the Beliefs about Dietary Compliance Scale (BDCS). Results: The mean age of the patients in the study sample (n=108) 47.03 +/- 10.55 years. The details about the subjects were as follows:50% of them were women, 88.9% were married, 35.2% were graduated from primary school, 36.1% were self-employed, 41.7% were informed about thyroid disease. 34.3% were examined by a physician once in three months, 41.7% thought this frequency of inspections is adequate, 70.4% stated that they will accept to have surgery again if they need any surgery, 41.7% of them used levothyroxine (0.5-1 tb). When the mean scores of the patients in the Beliefs About Medication Compliance Scale (BMCS) and the Beliefs about Dietary Compliance Scale (BDCS) were examined, the highest mean scores were found in the perception of benefit subscale for both scales, 21.14 +/- 2.87 and 23.38 +/- 3.34, respectively. Discussion: It was thought that the perception of benefit and adaptation are positively correlated, it was also thought that informing after the intervention improves the adaptation.

All living beings are continuously exposed to the natural external and internal sources of radiation during their lifetime. Natural radiation is usually composed of cosmic rays and terrestrial radiation sources. The main radionuclides that make up terrestrial natural radiation sources are uranium, thorium and potassium. Radon is a radioactive gas that is formed naturally by the decay of Uranium which is found in soil, rocks and water all over the earth. The highest contribution to radiation exposure of the people is due to radon which may concentrate in dwellings. In this study, the results of radon gas concentrations measured in different floors inside a hospital located in Istanbul city center were presented. The short term indoor radon measurements were performed using a continuous active radon detector (AlphaGUARD). The results show that the indoor radon concentrations varied from 19 to 53 Bq m-3 .Furthermore, in the study, the average indoor radon concentration as well as the annual effective dose rate were determined. The annual radiation dose for a person who stayed in the building for an average of 6 hours per a day was found vary from 0.150 mSv to 0.402 mSv. However, in the study region, the average indoor radon concentration as well as the annual effective dose rate are found to be below the action level recommended by Turkey Atomic Energy Agency (TAEK)., Tüm canlılar hayatları süresince iç ve dış doğal radyasyona maruz kalmaktadır. Doğal radyasyon, genellikle kozmik ışınlardan ve karasal radyasyon kaynaklarından oluşmaktadır. Karasal doğal radyasyon kaynaklarını oluşturan ana radyonüklidler uranyum, toryum ve potasyumdur. Radon, tüm dünya yüzeyinde toprak, kayaçlar ve suda bulunan uranyumun bozunumuyla doğal olarak oluşan radyoaktif bir gazdır.İnsanların radyasyona maruz kalmasına en yüksek katkı konutlardaki radon konsantrasyonundan gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada, İstanbul il merkezinde bulunan bir hastanenin farklı katlarında ölçülen radon gazı konsantrasyonlarının sonuçları sunulmuştur. Kısa süreli kapalı radon ölçümleri, sürekli aktif radon detektörü (AlphaGUARD) kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar, kapalı ortam radon konsantrasyonlarının19'dan53 Bqm-3'e kadar değiştiğini göstermektedir. Ayrıca, çalışmada, ortalama kapalı doz konsantrasyonu ve yıllık etkin doz oranı belirlenmiştir. Bina içerisinde günde ortalama 6 saat kalan bir kişinin radondan dolayı alacağı yılık radyasyon dozunun 0.150 mSv ile 0.402mSv arasında değiştiği bulunmuştur. Bununla birlikte, çalışma bölgesinde, ortalama kapalı doz konsantrasyonunun yanı sıra yıllık etkin doz oranının da Türkiye Atom Enerjisi Kurumu (TAEK) tarafından önerilen sınır seviyesinin altında olduğu bulunmuştur.

Tıbbi atıklar, endüstriyel faaliyetler, nükleer testler ve nükleer reaktörlerde meydana gelen kazalardan kaynaklanan antropojenikradyonüklidler, çevre üzerinde ciddi etkilere neden olabilecek kirlilik kaynaklarıdır. Çernobil kazasından sonra birçok antropojenikradyonüklitin Karadeniz'e girdiği bilinmektedir. Türkiye'nin kuzey kesimindeki topraklar 1986'daki Çernobil serpintisi ile kirlenmiştir.Bu çalışmada, toprak örneklerinde 137Cs aktivite konsantrasyonları ölçülmüştür. İstanbul Boğazı Anadolu yakasının farklılokasyonlarından toplanan yüzey toprağındaki antropojenik (137Cs) radyonüklid aktivitesinin konsantrasyonları, HPGe dedektörlüyüksek çözünürlüklü gama spektrometresi ile analiz edilmiştir.137Csaktivite konsantrasyonları0.74±0.31 - 6.21±0.16 Bqkg-1arasında değişmektedir. Anthropogenic radionuclides resulting from accidents in nuclear reactors, nuclear tests, industrial activities and medical wastes are sources of pollution that can cause serious impacts on environment. It is well known that many anthropogenic radionuclides entered the Black Sea after the Chernobyl power plant accident. Soil in especially the northern part of Turkey were contaminated by the Chernobyl fallout of 1986. In the present study, the activity concentrations of 137Cs in the soil samples measured. The activity concentrations of the anthropogenic (137Cs) radionuclide in surface soil samples collected from different locations in Anatolian Side (Bosphorus) were analyzed by the high-resolution gamma spectrometer with HPGe detector. The activity concentrations of137Cs ranged from 0.74±0.31 - 6.21±0.16 Bqkg-1.

Spatial distribution modelling has been proposed to characterize the radiological hazards associated with concentration of natural Ra-226, Th-232, K-40 and artificial Cs-137 radionuclides in the nature. These elements have been determined for the sediment samples of the Bafa Lake with the aim of radiation hazard evaluation via a high purity germanium detector gamma spectrometry. Their activity concentrations in sediments are in the ranges of 29.87 +/- 2.2-72.56 +/- 11 Bq kg(-1) dry weight (dw), 31.57 +/- 3.5-66.48 +/- 8.3 Bq kg(-1) (dw), 332.01 +/- 12-1092.37 +/- 21 and 0.65 +/- 0.04-3.96 +/- 0.78 Bq kg(-1)(dw), respectively. In order to determine the radiological hazard associated with the radioactivity in the samples, the external terrestrial gamma dose rate in air, annual effective dose rate, the radium equivalent activity and the external hazard index are calculated and compared with the data from literature. Moreover, the spatial modelling distributions are obtained visually for radiological hazards characterization of these elements, which are very dangerous in terms of radiological and environmental pollution in the nature. These visual distributions give meaningful information for future researches on the migration of radionuclides in the environment. Radyoterapi, radyasyon tedavisi veya radyasyon onkolojisi olarak da ifade edilen kanser tedavisinde kullanılan temel yöntemlerden biridir. Termolüminesans dozimetreler (TLD) küçük boyutları ve yüksek hassasiyetleri sebebiyle radyoterapi kaynaklarının çevresindeki doz ölçümlerinde rutin olarak kullanılırlar. Bu çalışmada Bezmiâlem Vakıf Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi Radyasyon Onkolojisi Kliniğinde bulunan Lineer hızlandırıcı ve 60^Co kaynağı kullanılarak alınan radyasyon dozu termolüminesans dozimetre ile belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada 3.2 x 3.2 x 0.89 mm boyutlarında LiF : Mg , Ti (TLD - 100) çip dozimetreler, 2 Gy’lik ışınlama dozu için Harshaw TLD 3500 okuyucu sistemi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlardan en yüksek radyasyon dozlarının hasta yastığı altı ve gözlere ait olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ionizing radiation has been used for therapy of cancer for a long time. Radiotherapy referred to as radiation therapy or radiation oncology, is one of the principal modalities used in the treatment of cancer. Thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) are routinely used to measure the dose around radiotherapy sources due to their small size and high precision. In this study, we were determined the radiotion doses received from Bezmiâlem University Faculty of Medical Hospital Clinic of Radiation Oncology linear accelerator and 60^Co Source using thermoluminescent dosimeter. In the present work the precision of LiF:Mg,Ti (TLD-100) chip dosimeters with dimensions of 3.2 x 3.2 x 0.89 mm was evaluated in Harshaw TLD 3500 reader, for 2 Gy irradiation dose. The results which obtained from the current study were showed that the highest radiation doses were received by patient pillow down and her eyes.

Concentrations of U-238, Th-232, Ra-226, K-40 and Cs-137 are measured in collected soil samples from various locations in the Thrace region of Turkey. The activity concentrations range from 12.82 to 101.75 Bq kg(-1) d.w. (dry weight) for U-238, from 5.16 to 73.34 Bq kg(-1) d.w. for Th-232, from 185.54 to 5399 Bq kg(-1) d.w. for K-40 and from 11.42 to 90.73 Bq kg(-1) d.w. for Ra-226. In addition to naturally occurring radionuclides, Cs-137 activity concentration is determined between 3.05 and 46.78 Bq kg(-1) d.w. for soil samples. Determination of the radiological hazard is achieved through calculations of the external terrestrial gamma dose rate in air (nGy h(-1)) and annual effective dose rate (mSv year(-1)) and the results are compared with the similar works in different countries.

Po-210 and Pb-210 in mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) and sediment samples collected at Candarli Gulf during the period of 2010-2012 are presented and discussed. The activity concentrations of Po-210 and Pb-210 were measured by means of alpha spectrometry. Activity concentrations of Po-210 and Pb-210 in mussels are in the ranged of 332 +/- 17-776 +/- 23 Bq kg(-1) dw and 14 +/- 1-40 +/- 5 Bq kg(-1) dw, for sediments the ranges for 52 +/- 5-109 +/- 8 Bq kg(-1) dw and 38 +/- 5-92 +/- 9 Bq kg(-1) dw, respectively. The estimated consequent annual effective ingestion dose due to Po-210 and Pb-210 from mussel consumption in Candarli Gulf coastal region were calculated. The highest dose due to Po-210 and Po-210 were calculated to be 4232 +/- 126 mu Sv and 126 +/- 16 mu Sv, respectively. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Concentrations of Po-210 and Pb-210 were determined in the edible muscle tissue of twelve species of marine fish collected from Izmir Bay in the Aegean Sea Region of Turkey during the 2006-2007. Po-210 activity concentrations in fish samples were found to vary from ND to 400 +/- 9 Bq kg(-1) dry weight and Pb-210 activity concentrations were found to vary from ND to 15 +/- 3 Bq kg(-1) dry weight. Bu çalışmada, Ege Denizi kıyı şeridinde yer alan Dilek Yarım Adası Büyük Menderes Deltası ve Büyük Menderes Nehri'nden mevsimsel olarak alman sediment ve su örneklerinde bulunan 137_{Cs} konsantrasyonları gama spektroskopisi ile tayin edilmiştir. Sediment ve yüzey suyu örneklerinde tayin edilen 137_{Cs} konsantrasyonları sırasıyla 0,350,03 ve 1,300,15 Bq kg"1, 1,100,12 ve 1,850,16 Bq m"3, arasında değişmektedir. In this study were determined the concentrations of 137_{Cs} in sediment and waters collected from Buyuk Menderes River and Dilek Peninsula Buyuk Menderes Delta in coast of Aegean Sea for seasonally using by gamma spectrometry. The concentrations of 137_{Cs} in sediment and surface water samples varies between 0.35±0.03 and 1.30±0.15 Bq kg"1, 1.10±0.12 and 1.85±0.16 Bq nr3, respectively. Bu çalışmada, Ege Denizi kıyı şeridinde yer alan Didim ve İzmir Körfezi’nden aylık olarak toplanmış olan sediment, deniz suyu, çeşitli türde balık ve kara midyelerde (Mytilus galloprovincialis) bulunan 210Po, 210Pb ve 137Cs radyonüklidleri alfa ve gama spektroskopisi ile tayin edilmiş, ayrıca Zn, Cu, Fe, Cd, Mn, Ni, Pb, Cr gibi ağır metallerin miktarı ICP-OES ile ölçülmüştür. Midye (Mytilus galloprovincialis) örneklerinde tayin edilen 210Po ve 210Pb konsantrasyonları sırasıyla 34±9 ile 2303±383 Bq kg-1 ve ND (dedeksiyon limitinin altında) ile 64±6 Bq kg-1 (kuru ağırlık) arasında değişmektedir. Sedimentlerdeki 210Po ve 210Pb konsantrasyonları sırasıyla 24±5 ile 126±6 Bq kg-1 ve 18±3 ile 59±4 Bq kg-1 (kuru ağırlık) arasında değişmektedir. Örnekleme periyodu süresince yüzeyden alınan deniz suyu örneklerindeki 210Po konsantrasyonları ortalama 0.006±0.004 Bq L-1’dir. Balıklar arasında Sardalya (Sardina pilchardus) gibi planktonla beslenen küçük pelajik balıklar daha fazla 210Po biriktirme eğilimindedirler. Yapılan analizler sonucunda elde edilen ağır metal bulgularına göre, midye örneklerinde Cd 0.4-2.1 μg g-1; Cr 0.6-2.7 μg g-1; Cu 1.4-8.4 μg g-1; Fe 22-541 μg g-1; Mn 1.1-12.6 μg g-1; Ni 0.2-2.5 μg g-1; Pb 0.4- 1.3 μg g-1; Zn 31-162 μg g-1 (kuru ağırlık), sediment örneklerinde Cd ND; Cr 9-65 μg g-1; Cu 3-38 μg g-1; Fe 1271-18470 μg g-1; Mn 42-542 μg g-1; Ni 3-33 μg g-1; Pb ND-16 μg g-1; Zn 3-85 μg g-1 (kuru ağırlık), Sardalya (Sardine plichardus) örneklerinde Cd 0.1-2.1 μg g-1; Cr 0.3-4.6 μg g-1; Cu 1.9-17.5 μg g-1; Fe 18.5-163.7 μg g-1; Mn 0.9-11.6 μg g-1; Ni 0.1-3.2 μg g-1; Pb 0.1-1.6 μg g-1; Zn 19.8-106.1 μg g-1 (kuru ağırlık), arasındaki değerlerde bulunmuştur. Midye sediment ve balık örneklerindeki Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb ve Zn değerleri (balıkta Cd hariç) kabul edilebilir sınırların altında bulunmuştur. Midye, sediment, balık ve deniz suyu örneklerindeki 137Cs konsantrasyonları ise düşük bulunmuştur. Elde edilen bulgulara göre radyonüklid ve ağır metal konsantrasyonlarının aylara ve bölgelere bağlı olarak değişimler gösterdikleri saptanmıştır. Didim ve İzmir Körfezi’nin çalışılan dönemde incelenen radyonüklid ve ağır metal konsantrasyonları bakımından biyolojik ve ekolojik dengeyi tehdit edici bir risk taşımadığı söylenebilir.

vııı ÖZET Bu çalışmada, gama spektrometresi kullanılarak yapılan Manisa'da C.B.Ü. Kampüs alanı ve çevresinde topraktaki doğal radyoaktivite ölçüm sonuçlarını içerir ve topraktaki gama radyoaktivite haritasının çizilmesini amaçlar. Bu amaçla Manisa yöresinden toplam 80 toprak örneği alınmıştır. pH, iletkenlik, CaC03'ûn yanı sıra Ca, K, Mg, Ma, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, P analizleri ICP-AES ile belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca 55 toprak örneğinin toplam gama, K-40, eU ve eTh içerikleri ise Nal ( Tl ) dedektörü ile belirlenmiştir. IX ABSTRACT This study presents the results of natural radiation measurement in soil carried out in and around C.B.U. campus in Manisa using gamma spectrometry and aims to establish the baseline maps of gamma radioactivity in soil. For this purpose, 80 soil samples were collected from this region. pH, conductivity, and CaC03 content in soil were determined and also Ca, K, Mg, Na, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, P concentrations of the soil samples were analzed by ICP-AES. Bu çalışmada Kırklareli-İğneada bölgesi topraklarında doğal (226Ra, 232Th, 40K) ve yapay (137Cs) radyoaktivite seviyelerinin belirlenmesi ve radyolojik açıdan incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu sebeple Kırklareli-İğneada bölgesinde 30 farklı noktadan yaz ve kış mevsimlerinde alınan toprak örneklerinin gamma spektrometrik analizi HPGe (Yüksek Saflıkta Germanyum) dedektörü kullanılarak yapılmıştır. İncelenen topraklardaki ortalama 226Ra, 232Th, 40K ve 137Cs konsantrasyonları sırasıyla 19,43 ± 2,53; 25,05 ± 1,26; 372,69 ± 12,81 ve 6,68 ± 0,58 Bq kg-1 bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, toprak örneklerinde soğurulan gama doz oranı (D), yıllık etkin doz eşdeğeri (AEDE), radyum eşdeğer aktivitesi (Raeq), dış tehlike indeksi (Hex) de hesaplanmıştır.Bu çalışmada elde edilen tüm sonuçlar uluslararası önerilen değerlerle karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuçlar, incelenen alandaki tüm toprak örneklerinde radyonüklitlerden kaynaklanan radyasyon tehlikesinin önemli olmadığını göstermektedir. The absorbed dose rate (D), the annual effective döşe equivalent (AEDE), the radium equivalent activity (Raeq) and the external hazard index (Hex) and for soil samples were also evaluated.The results obtained in this study were compared with the international recommended values. Bu çalışmada Kırklareli Üniversitesi Kayalı Kampüsü'nde farklı binalarda (fakülteler, idari ve akademik birimler vb.) bina içi radon (222Rn) konsantrasyonları belirlenmiştir. Belirlenen ölçüm noktalarında AlphaGUARD ölçüm tekniği ile 222Rn tespiti yapılmıştır. Çalışmada yapılan ölçümlere göre bina içi 222Rn yoğunluğu 6±8 Bq/m3 ile 107±15 Bq/m3 aralığında değişmektedir. Tüm ölçümlerin ortalama 222Rn değeri ise 24.65 Bq/m3 bulunmuştur. Çalışmada ortalama mevsimsel 222Rn yoğunlukları en düşük (6±8 Bq/m3) kış mevsiminde, en yüksek (107±15 Bq/m3) yaz mevsiminde ölçülmüştür. Elde edilen sonuçların limit değerlerin altında olduğu görülmüştür. 222Rn nedeniyle alınacak tahmini yıllık etkin doz eşdeğerleri hesaplanmıştır. Yaz ve kış aylarında binalarda 222Rn gazından dolayı maruz kalınan ortalama yıllık etkin doz eşdeğerleri sırasıyla 0.28 mSv ve 0.22 mSv olarak hesaplanmıştır. In this study, indoor 222Rn concentrations were determined in different buildings (faculties, administrativeandac ademicunits, etc.) in the Kirklareli University Kayali Campus. Measurements were made in summer and winter seasons. 222Rn was determined by AlphaGUARD measurement techniques. In the study, according to the measurements made, the indoor 222Rn density varies between 6±8 Bq/m3 ile 107±15 Bq/m3. The average 222Rn value of measurements was found to be 24.65 Bq/m3 .In the study, the average seasonal 222Rn intensities were lowest (6±8 Bq/m3) in the winter and the highest (107±15 Bq/m3) in the summer.The results are below the permissible limit values. Estimated annual effective dose equivalent sdue to radon inhalation were calculated. Based on the measured 222Rn gas concentrations estimate dannual effective dose equivalents in summer and winter were estimated as 0.28 mSv and 0.22 mSv, respectively. 68
