Renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is frequently observed in several clinical cases. In this study, we want to investigate that SCM-198 attenuates renal injury in the renal I/R model and find out the possible mechanisms. Wistar albino 40 male rats were classified into four groups (n=10): control, DMSO, I/R, and SCM-198 30 mg/kg. In the group 4, SCM-198 was administered intraperitoneally once at the doses of 30 mg/kg following the reperfusion. Glomerular associated proteins (PCX), tubular damage factors (NGAL, KIM-1), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine, inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-18, and TNF-α), Bax/Bcl-2, TLR4, LC3B, and Beclin-1 were evaluated. SCM-198 played an essential role in mitigating kidney damage. SCM-198 alleviated tubular damage and decreased IL-1β, IL-18, and TNF-α levels. SCM-198 reduced the apoptosis marker Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, immune system protein TLR4, and autophagy proteins LC3B and Beclin-1. In brief, our results support the notion that SCM-198 has protective effects on I/R-induced renal injury. SCM-198 therapy may be a new alternative for the prevention and treatment of renal I/R injury.

The new technological applications of nickel (Ni) raise concerns over its harmful effects on the environment and human health. Pomiferin isolated from Osage orange is evaluated in in vitro and in vivo laboratory bioassays. This study focused the effects of pomiferin on Ni-caused hepatic injury and its underlying mechanisms. With this aim, Sprague–Dawley rats received 10 mg/kg nickel chloride (NiCl
2 ) for 7 d by intraperitoneal injections. Pomiferin was given orally once a day at different doses (75, 150, and 300 mg/kg) for 20 d after exposure to NiCl2 . Animals were anesthetized and livers were carefully collected to evaluate oxidative stress, inflammation, vascular injury, and hepatic function. Also, immunofluorescence analysis of apoptosis and DNA damage was performed on rat hepatic tissues. NiCl2 increased MDA production while reducing SOD, CAT, and GPx activity. NiCl2 induced the production of inflammatory cytokines and also platelet activation in hepatic tissue. Moreover, there were significant increases in AST, ALT, and LDH levels. NiCl2 also caused significant pathological changes in hepatic. Additionally, it remarkably induced up-regulations of apoptotic marker and 8-OHdG expressions by immunofluorescence labeling in liver cells. Whereas, pomiferin significantly attenuated lipid peroxidation and increased antioxidant defense system in liver. Also, the use of pomiferin prevented deregulated inflammatory process by signaling pathways nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB)/COX-2/TNF-α/IL-1β/IL-6. In addition, pomiferin diminished histopathologic evidence of hepatic toxicity and significantly lower expressions of caspase 3 and 8-OHdG were observed in liver cells. Pomiferin seems to counteract the deleterious effects of NiCl2 on hepatic tissue through different cellular and signaling mechanisms. İnci ,Pearl Diving and Trade ,British Empire ,Basra Körfezi ,İngiltere ,Osmanlı Devleti Persian Gulf ,Pearl ,Ottoman Empire ,İnci Avcılığı ve Ticareti - Abstract
Pearl, which has been accepted as a valuable material since ancient times, has found a place in people's lives not only as an ornament, but also in many different ways. For this reason, it has been continuously extracted from the depths of the sea and used in commercial activities throughout history. Pearl hunting and trade were carried out under the auspices of different states until the last quarter of the 18th century. As of this period, a new page has been opened in the Gulf with the breaking of the Iranian activities on the western coast of the Persian Gulf. Arab sheikhs took control over time and directed the pearl hunting and trade in favor of themselves and the merchants. Pearl hunters, who hunted pearls with a method that had not undergone much change since the early ages and worked in a traditional way by risking their health and even their lives, could not do anything but increase the profits of the sheikhs and merchants. Pearl hunters have been systematically exploited since 1820, with the British establishing relations with the local authorities in the Persian Gulf and taking steps to increase the stability of pearl fishing and trade. Britain, on the other hand, has provided many benefits, which we will talk about in detail in our study, as a result of its activities by putting the pearl trade at the center, and has become the main factor that has authority in every field in the Gulf. Persian Gulf pearl fishing and trade had become a global trade organization by the end of the 19th century, with the changes implemented under the leadership of Britain and thus, together with the rulers in the Gulf, it brought significant wealth to the capitalists who financed the pearl trade. With the Balkan Wars and mainly the First World War, pearls lost their artificial value, which was one of the factors that led to the extraordinary growth of the pearl trade volume at the beginning of the 20th century and in fact prepared the end of this trade organization, and started to become less popular in the world. Subsequently, the mass production of cultured pearls in Japan in the 1920s to meet the needs of the world market, and the ensuing economic depression of 1929, dealt a significant blow to the Persian Gulf pearl fishing and trade. Although the Gulf pearl industry tried to survive after these developments, it was mixed into the dusty pages of history in the years following World War II. In this study, we will examine the historical process of pearl hunting and trade in the Persian Gulf in general, the execution of pearl fishing, the working and living conditions of pearl hunters, and how the extracted pearls are delivered to the buyers through a commercial organization. In addition, we will take a look at the relations of political, economic and social groups in the Gulf with each other, and what the steps taken by Britain in the region since 1820 have brought to itself and the region. Then, we will evaluate the relations of the Ottoman Empire with the Persian Gulf in the context of pearl hunting and trade. Also, lastly, we will examine the city life in the Arabian coasts of the Persian Gulf, in particular pearl hunting and trade, as an example of the effects of economic activities on city life.

LIPID metabolism ,FRUCTOSE ,ASTAXANTHIN ,LOW density lipoproteins ,HIGH density lipoproteins ,NF-kappa B ,BLOOD cholesterol ,ANIMAL nutrition - Abstract
The liver is the primary site for fructose metabolism; therefore, the liver is susceptible to fructose related metabolic disturbances including metabolic insulin dysfunction, dyslipidemia and inflammation. We investigated whether astaxanthin (ASX) can modify hepatic nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB)/sirtuin-1 (SIRT-1) expression to alter oxidative stress caused by ingestion of excess fructose in rats. The animals were divided randomly into two x two factorially arranged groups: two regimens were given either water (W) or 30% fructose in drinking water (F). These two groups were divided further into two subgroups each: two treatments, either orally with 0.2 ml olive oil (OO) or 1 mg ASX/kg/day in 0.2 ml olive oil (ASX). Fructose administration increased serum glucose, triglycerides and very low density lipoproteins, and decreased serum concentration of high density lipoproteins; fructose did not alter serum total cholesterol. Excess fructose decreased hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD) and increased hepatic NF-κB and MDA levels. ASX treatment increased hepatic SIRT-1 and decreased hepatic NF-κB and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. ASX treatment decreased hepatic NF-κB and increased SOD levels, but did not alter MDA level in rats fed high fructose. ASX administration ameliorated oxidative stress caused by excess fructose by increasing hepatic NF-κB and SIRT-1 expression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Oxidative damage caused by aflatoxin (AF) in rat liver tissue and the inhibition effect of lycopene against this injury was investigated. Groups were formed as; control group (not treated), lycopene group (5 mg/kg/day, gavage for 15 days), AFB1 group (0.5 mg/kg/day, gavage for 7 days) and AFB1 + lycopene group. Lycopene administered simultaneously with AFB1. It was observed significant increase in malondialdehyde level, decrease in glutathione level, antioxidant enzyme activities in liver tissue of AFB1 group when compared with control group. It was determined to significantly increase in plasma aspartate transaminase, alanine transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase activities in AFB1 group when compared with control group. It was determined significant decrease in malondialdehyde level, plasma aspartate transaminase, alanine transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase activities and increase in glutathione level, antioxidant enzyme activities in AFB1 + lycopene group when compared with AFB1 group. This study suggests that lycopene which has antioxidant properties can be prevented from AFB1 induced hepatotoxicity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since 1990s, there have been intense debates about whether People's Republic of China will be a new super power and like what a new world order with Chinese characteristics would look. These debates were taken yet another turn immediately after President Xi Jinping launched in 2013 the Belt and Road Initiative that would strenghten China's multidimensional ties with Asia, Europe and Africa. The debates have taken a new shape due to the fact that China, for the first time after a long while, has launched a global vision and mission proposal. In this work, first of all and through the lens of the notion of grand strategy, it is tried to analyze China's both historical and current national, regional and global strategic propensities and acts in the light of debates about possibility for China to become a super and global rule maker power. Secondly, the possible effects of the Belt and Road Initiative on the future of Turkey-China relations is tried to be evaluated, using data about both the past and current subjects of Turkey-China relations. 169

In general, bacterialpathogens are the focus of mastitis studies. Symptoms of mastitis may be absentin cases of viral infection, because other clinical symptoms are more dominant.Subclinical mastitis cases cannot be generally diagnosed and as a consequence, they are not investigated very well. This may lead to the inability of viralagents to be predicted in bovine subclinical cases. There are many viral agentsassociated with bovine mastitis and which may cause subclinical mastitis indairy cattle. However, since viral infections have not been much investigatedin mastitis studies, strategies developed against subclinical mastitis may beinadequate. Bovine Parainfluenza 3 (BPIV-3), Bovine Papillomaviruses (BPV),Bovine Herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) could cause clinical and subclinicalmastitis. The aim of the present studywas to investigate the presence and prevalence of BPIV-3, BPV, and BHV-1 viralagents in subclinical mastitis case in Erzurum province. For this purpose, 120 bovine mammary tissueswith no macroscopic lesions were collected and these tissues were examined withhistopathology and immunofluorescence methods. Thereafter, all viruses wereidentified with qRT-PCR in mammary tissues. The end of histopathologic process78 of 120 cases (56 chronic subclinic mastitis, 22 acut mastitis) was foundseverity of inflammatory changes. According to the results ofimmunofluorescence staining for all sections. The immun positive signs forBPIV-3 BPV, and BHV-1 was determined in 50 out of 120 cases. qRT-PCR resultswhich compatible with immunofluorescence results showed that BPIV-3 agent wasdetected by the qRT-PCR in 26/120 samples, BPV-2 agent in 8/120 samples, BHV-1agent in 16/120 samples, and BPV-1 agent in 7/120 samples (only byqRT-PCR). Coinfection with BPIV-3 andBHV-1 was detected in 5/120 samples, BPIV-3, and BPV-1 in 3/120 samples, BHV-1,and BPV-2 in 2/120 samples. According to our results, although the role ofviral agents in mastitis disease has not been clearly elucidated, we have foundthat viral agents are common in mammary tissues with subclinical mastitis., Genellikle etiyolojikmastitis çalışmaları bakteriyel patojenler üzerine odaklanmıştır.

Routine histopathological processing was performed for gatheredtissues. All sections were stained with hematoxylin- eosin. After staining allslides were examined under the light microscopy. Out of the 140 cattle, 18 animals were foundto be pregnant at different stages of pregnancy. No histopathological changes wereobserved in 62 uterus organs of 122 non-pregnant cattle and inflammatoryuterine lesions were observed in different characters and intensities in 60uterus organs. In result of this study, we detect the percentage of pregnantanimals which are slaughtered is 12,8%. Besides, the percentage of femaleanimals with no pathological lesions were found to be an obstacle to pregnancyis 44,2%. According to these findings, we were in the belief that these ratesare a significant loss in terms of our local economy., Bu çalışmada; kesime sevk edilen ineklerin, uterusorganlarının makroskobik ve histopatolojik muayenelerinin yapılması, böylecegebe olarak kesime sevk edilen hayvan sayısının belirlenmesi amaçlandı.

In this study, the effects of carnosine, ankaferd, and 1% silver sulfadiazine applied topically on second-degree burns were investigated and the roles of irisin and Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) in this healing process were evaluated. Ninety male albino rats were used and divided into five groups. The groups were classified as control, burn, burn + carnosine (CAR), burn + ankaferd (ABS), and burn + silver sulfadiazine (SS). It was found that level of irisin increased in the first week and decreased in the second week in the burn and CAR groups. In the ABS and SS groups, the level of irisin was determined that started to increase in the first week and continued to increase in the second week. The level of HSP70 was found to increased in the first week in burn and CAR groups and decreased in the second week, but started to increase in the second week in ABS and SS groups. Both levels of irisin and HSP70 were observed to decreased in all treatment groups in the third week. In this study, it was shown that ankaferd and silver sülfadiazine treatments cause an increase in the irisin levels in the early period and a gradually increase in HSP70 levels in the later period in burns. The inflammatory response was observed to be limited in the early period in the ankaferd and sulfadiazin groups. It was concluded that these findings were effective in early wound healing in burns. The aim of this study was to investigate immunohistochemically the presence and the prevalence of Parainfluenza-3 (PI-3) in the lungs of cattle breeding in the Erzurum region. For this aim, the lung samples of 600 cattle slaughtered inabattoirs in Erzurum province were examined by collecting and pneumonia was macroscopically observed in 75 (12.5%) lungsamples. 58 interstitial pneumonia, 10 broncho-interstitial pneumonia, 2 catarrhal pneumonia, 2 fibrinous pneumonia, and 3granulomatous pneumonia were observed in the histopathological evaluation of these lungs examined macroscopically.Immunohistochemical staining was performed to pneumonia detected lung sections in terms of PI-3 virus andimmunopositivity was detected in 7 (9.33%) lung samples. Immunopositivity was observed in 6 (10.34%) interstitialpneumonia and 1 (10%) broncho-interstitial pneumonia in lung samples. Immunopositivity in the lungs which were positivefor PI-3 viral antigens was found in the cytoplasm of bronchi and bronchioles epithelium, in inflammation cells in bronchusassociatedlymphoid tissue (BALT) around bronchioles, in the alveoli, in the macrophages in the interstitial area. Furthermore, these positivities were observed in the inflammatory exudate in the bronchial lumen in the broncho-interstitial pneumonialung samples. In conclusion, it was determined that the presence of PI-3 viral antigens has an important place in agents whichoccur pneumonia in cattle in Erzurum region and it is thought that this agent should not be ignored in the protection andtreatment methods against the bovine respiratory disease complex., Bu çalışmada, Erzurum yöresinde yetiştirilen sığırların akciğerlerinde Parainfluenza-3 (PI-3) etkeninin immunohistokimyasal olarak varlığının ve yaygınlığının araştırılması amaçlanmıştır.

Objective: Aim of this study is presenting of young adults which were referred to our clinic from their military units because of their upper extremity soft tissue masses. Materials and Methods: In this study upper extremity soft tissue masses of 20-30 years old young adults who were referred to our clinic between November 2014 and November 2015 from their military units were examined according to histopathological diagnosis, size and localization. Results: 77 lesion from 77 young adults were examined. According to histopathological determination it was reported that 28.6% of lesions were epidermoid cysts, 27.3% of lesions were ganglion cysts, 18.2% of lesions were hemangioma, 14.3% of lesions were lipoma, 5.2% of lesions were tenosynovial giant cell tumor of tendon sheath,3.9% of lesions were schwannomas and 2.6% of lesions were extraskeletal chondroma. According to location of lesions it was seen that 13% of the lesions were located in arm, 13% in forearm, 38.9% in the palmar part of the hand and 35.1% of lesions were on fingers. According to size of the lesions it was measured that 49.3% of the lesions were 0-1 cm, 22.1%; 1-2 cm, 20.8%; 2-3 cm and 7.8% were under 3 cm. Conclusions: Benign soft tissue masses of upper extremity can be symptomatic in intensive physical activity period as military service and these are common reason of referring soldiers to hospitals. These lesions are more symptomatic even in smaller sizes when they appear at the distal part of extremity and may be excised from distal part of extremity.
