Abstract: The degree distributions of complex networks are usually considered to be power law. However, it is not the case for a large number of them. We thus propose a new model able to build random growing networks with (almost) any wanted degree distribution. The degree distribution can either be theoretical or extracted from a real-world network. The main idea is to invert the recurrence equation commonly used to compute the degree distribution in order to find a convenient attachment function for node connections - commonly chosen as linear. We compute this attachment function for some classical distributions, as the power-law, broken power-law, geometric and Poisson distributions. We also use the model on an undirected version of the Twitter network, for which the degree distribution has an unusual shape. We finally show that the divergence of chosen attachment functions is heavily links to the heavy-tailed property of the obtained degree distributions., Comment: 23 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: Adaptive bitrate (ABR) algorithms are used in streaming media to adjust video or audio quality based on the viewer's network conditions to provide a smooth playback experience. With the rise of virtual reality (VR) headsets, 360° video streaming is growing rapidly and requires efficient ABR strategies to also adapt the video quality to the user's head position. However, research in this field is often difficult to compare due to a lack of reproducible simulations. To address this problem, we provide SMART360, a 360° streaming simulation environment to compare motion prediction and adaptive bitrates strategies. We provide sample inputs and baseline algorithms along with the simulator, as well as examples of results and visualizations that can be obtained with SMART360. The code and data are made publicly available.

Abstract: International audience; Tenter de prévoir l'évolution de la société humaine en fonction de ses aspects fondamentaux est une question à la fois délicate et urgente pour la science. Au fil des ans, certains modèles ont été développés pour aider à cet égard. Nous présentons WorldDynamics.jl, un framework open-source qui vise à soutenir la prise de décision sur les questions environnementales et économiques ainsi qu'à permettre aux scientifiques d'utiliser et d'adapter facilement différents modèles d'évaluation intégrée pour le développement durable. La bibliothèque est développée avec le langage de programmation Julia, qui fait partie aujourd'hui des langages les plus populaires pour le calcul scientifique. Elle intègre une collection de différents modèles d'évaluation intégrée qui fournissent un aperçu de l'évolution de notre société. L'implémentation fournie peut directement bénéficier d'une large gamme d'outils déjà disponibles dans l'écosystème du langage, y compris l'analyse de sensibilité globale et le langage de modélisation JuMP pour effectuer une optimisation mathématique sur des aspects des modèles.

Abstract: Objectives Accurate zonal segmentation of prostate boundaries on MRI is a critical prerequisite for automated prostate cancer detection based on PI-RADS. Many articles have been published describing deep learning methods offering great promise for fast and accurate segmentation of prostate zonal anatomy. The objective of this review was to provide a detailed analysis and comparison of applicability and efficiency of the published methods for automatic segmentation of prostate zonal anatomy by systematically reviewing the current literature. Methods A Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) was conducted until June 30, 2021, using PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science and EMBase databases. Risk of bias and applicability based on Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 (QUADAS-2) criteria adjusted with Checklist for Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging (CLAIM) were assessed. Results A total of 458 articles were identified, and 33 were included and reviewed. Only 2 articles had a low risk of bias for all four QUADAS-2 domains. In the remaining, insufficient details about database constitution and segmentation protocol provided sources of bias (inclusion criteria, MRI acquisition, ground truth). Eighteen different types of terminology for prostate zone segmentation were found, while 4 anatomic zones are described on MRI. Only 2 authors used a blinded reading, and 4 assessed inter-observer variability. Conclusions Our review identified numerous methodological flaws and underlined biases precluding us from performing quantitative analysis for this review. This implies low robustness and low applicability in clinical practice of the evaluated methods. Actually, there is not yet consensus on quality criteria for database constitution and zonal segmentation methodology.

Abstract: International audience; A path-decomposition of a graph G = (V, E) is a sequence of subsets of V , called bags, that satisfy some connectivity properties. The length of a path-decomposition of a graph G is the greatest distance between two vertices that belong to a same bag and the pathlength, denoted by p (G), of G is the smallest length of its path-decompositions. This parameter has been studied for its algorithmic applications for several classical metric problems like the minimum eccentricity shortest path problem, the line-distortion problem, etc. However, deciding if the pathlength of a graph G is at most 2 is NP-complete, and the best known approximation algorithm has a ratio 2 (there is no c-approximation with c < 3 2 unless P = N P). In this work, we focus on the study of the pathlength of simple sub-classes of planar graphs. We start by designing a linear-time algorithm that computes the pathlength of trees. Then, we show that the pathlength of cycles with n vertices is equal to n 2. Finally, our main result is a (+1)-approximation algorithm for the pathlength of outerplanar graphs. Abstract: International audience; The emerging 5G induces a great diversity of use cases, a multiplication of the number of connections, an increase in throughput as well as stronger constraints in terms of quality of service such as low latency and isolation of requests. To support these new constraints, Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Network (SDN) technologies have been coupled to introduce the network slicing paradigm. Due to the high dynamicity of the demands, it is crucial to regularly reconfigure the network slices in order to maintain an efficient provisioning of the network. A major concern is to find the best frequency to carry out these reconfigurations, as there is a tradeoff between a reduced network congestion and the additional costs induced by the reconfiguration. In this paper, we tackle the problem of deciding the best moment to reconfigure by taking into account this trade-off. By coupling Deep Reinforcement Learning for decision and a Column Generation algorithm to compute the reconfiguration, we propose Deep-REC and show that choosing the best time during the day to reconfigure allows to maximize the profit of the network operator while minimizing the use of network resources and the congestion of the network. Moreover, by selecting the best moment to reconfigure, our approach allows to decrease the number of needed reconfigurations compared to an algorithm doing periodic reconfigurations during the day.

Abstract: International audience; While immersive media have been shown to generate more intense emotions, saliency information has been shown to be a key component for the assessment of their quality, owing to the various portions of the sphere (viewports) a user can attend. In this article, we investigate the tri-partite connection between user attention, user emotion and visual content in immersive environments. To do so, we present a new dataset enabling the analysis of different types of saliency, both lowlevel and high-level, in connection with the user's state in 360 • videos. Head and gaze movements are recorded along with self-reports and continuous physiological measurements of emotions. We then study how the accuracy of saliency estimators in predicting user attention depends on user-reported and physiologically-sensed emotional perceptions. Our results show that high-level saliency better predicts user attention for higher levels of arousal. We discuss how this work serves as a first step to understand and predict user attention and intents in immersive interactive environments.

Abstract: National audience; La microscopie de fluorescence super-résolue est une technique d'imagerie permettant de s'affranchir du flou produit par la diffraction de la lumière, ce qui permet la reconstruction de détails fins des structures biologiques. Cependant, les méthodes classiques par molécule unique sont limitées par les longs temps d'acquisition, avec notamment une détérioration de l'échantillon qui rend difficile le suivi des cellules vivantes. Une nouvelle voie prometteuse est ouverte par l'exploitation des fluctuations de luminosité des fluorophores, permettant l'imagerie des cellules vivantes avec une bonne résolution spatio-temporelle à l'aide de microscopes courants et de colorants fluorescents conventionnels. Plusieurs algorithmes ont été développés dans la littérature à ce titre ; ces techniques sont formulées dans un cadre discret c'est-à-dire que l'image superrésolue repose sur une grille plus fine que les images acquises. À l'inverse, l'optimisation sans-grille n'utilise pas de grille fine et consiste plutôt en une optimisation de mesures de Dirac en nombre, amplitudes et positions. Dans cet article, nous proposons une formulation sans-grille exploitant l'hypothèse d'indépendance des fluctuations.

Abstract: National audience; Futures and promises are respectively a read-only and a write-once pointer to a placeholder in memory. They are used to transfer information between threads in the context of asynchronous concurrent programming. Futures and promises simplify the implementation of synchronisation mechanisms between threads. Nonetheless they can be error prone as data races may arise when references are shared and transferred. We aim at providing a formal tool to detect those errors. Hence, in this paper we propose a proof of concept by implementing the future/promise mechanism in Viper: a verification infrastructure, that provides a way to reason about resource ownership in programs.

Abstract: International audience; From a user perspective, immersive content can elicit more intense emotions than flat-screen presentations. From a system perspective,efficient storage and distribution remain challenging, and must consider user attention. Understanding the connection between user attention, user emotions and immersive content is therefore key. In this article, we present a new dataset, PEM360 of user head movements and gaze recordings in 360° videos, along with self-reported emotional ratings of valence and arousal, and continuous physiological measurement of electrodermal activity and heart rate. The stimuli are selected to enable the spatiotemporal analysis of the connection between content, user motion and emotion. We describe and provide a set of software tools to process the various data modalities, and introduce a joint instantaneous visualization of user attentionand emotion we name Emotional maps. We exemplify new types of analyses the PEM360 dataset can enable. The entire data and code are made available in a reproducible framework.

Abstract: International audience; Dans le jeu du plus grand sous-graphe connexe, deux joueurs, Anaïs et Gilles, s'affrontent en colorant les sommets d'un graphe. À chaque tour, Anaïs colore un sommet non coloré en rouge puis Gilles colore un sommet non coloré en bleu. Lorsque tous les sommets sont colorés, le joueur dont la couleur induit la plus grande composante connexe gagne. Ce jeu a été défini dans [Bensmail et al, WG'21 et AlgoTel'21] où il a été montré entre autres que Gilles n'a jamais de stratégie gagnante (au mieux, il peut espérer une égalité). Nous étudions la version de ce jeu où on se donne aussi un entier $k\geq 1$. Dans ce cas, Anaïs gagne si elle crée une composante connexe rouge de taille au moins k et Gilles gagne sinon. Étant donné un graphe $G$, nous étudions $c_g(G)$, le plus grand entier qui garantit la victoire d'Anaïs. Outre le fait que cela donne une chance à Gilles de gagner, cette variante fait partie de la famille des jeux combinatoires Maker-Breaker, qui ont été très étudiés. De plus, cette variante offre des outils différents pour mieux comprendre la version Maker-Maker initiale. En particulier, nous étudions les graphes A-parfaits pour lesquels Anaïs peut gagner en créant une unique composante rouge, i.e., les graphes à n sommets tels que $c_g(G) = \lceil n/2 \rceil$. Nous montrons que le calcul de $c_g(G)$ est PSPACE-complet dans les graphes bipartis, scindés (split) ou planaires, et que et une stratégie correspondante peuvent être calculés en temps linéaire dans les graphes $P_4$-clairsemés (généralisant les cographes). Nous donnons ensuite des conditions suffisantes (liées aux degrés ou au nombre d'arêtes) pour qu'un graphe soit A-parfait. Un résultat surprenant est qu'il n'existe aucun graphe 3-régulier A-parfait avec plus de 132 sommets.

Abstract: International audience; Une décomposition linéaire (path-decomposition) d'un graphe G = (V, E) est une représentation de G comme une séquence de sous-ensembles (appelés sacs) de V vérifiant des propriétés de connexité. La longueur d'une décomposition linéaire est le plus grand diamètre d'un de ses sacs et la longueur linéaire de G est la plus petite longueur d'une de ses décompositions linéaires. Ce paramètre a été étudié pour ses applications algorithmiques dans des problèmes métriques classiques (e.g., plus court chemin d'excentricité minimum, plongement de graphes dans des espaces métriques avec faible distorsion des distances...). Il est connu que décider si la longueur linéaire d'un graphe quelconque est au plus 2 est NP-complet, et le meilleur algorithme d'approximation connu a un rapport d'approximation de 2 (il n'existe pas de c-approximation pour c < 3/2). Dans cet article, nous étudions ce problème dans des sous-classes des graphes planaires. Nous prouvons que la longueur linéaire d'un cycle de n sommets est n/2 et que celle des arbres peut être déterminée en temps linéaire. Notre résultat principal est un algorithme polynomial donnant une +1-approximation de la longueur linéaire des graphes planaires extérieurs 2-connexes. Cet algorithme repose sur le fait que, dans cette classe de graphes, nous prouvons qu'il existe des décompositions (presque) optimales (de longueur minimum à un près) avec des propriétés structurelles spécifiques.

Abstract: We propose a new strategy for the reconstruction of curves in an image through an off-the-grid variational framework, inspired by the reconstruction of spikes in the literature. We introduce a new functional CROC on the space of 2-dimensional Radon measures with finite divergence denoted , and we establish several theoretical tools through the definition of a certificate. Our main contribution lies in the sharp characterisation of the extreme points of the unit ball of the-norm: there are exactly measures supported on 1-rectifiable oriented simple Lipschitz curves, thus enabling a precise characterisation of our functional minimisers and further opening a promising avenue for the algorithmic implementation.

Abstract: International audience; With the continuous growing level of dynamicity, heterogeneity, and complexity of traffic data, anomaly detection remains one of the most critical tasks to ensure an efficient and flexible management of a network. Recently, driven by their empirical success in many domains, especially bioinformatics and computer vision, graph kernels have attracted increasing attention. Our work aims at investigating their discrimination power for detecting vulnerabilities and distilling traffic in the field of networking. In this paper, we propose Nadege, a new graph-based learning framework which aims at preventing anomalies from disrupting the network while providing assistance for traffic monitoring. Specifically, we design a graph kernel tailored for network profiling by leveraging propagation schemes which regularly adapt to contextual patterns. Moreover, we provide provably efficient algorithms and consider both offline and online detection policies. Finally, we demonstrate the potential of kernel-based models by conducting extensive experiments on a wide variety of network environments. Under different usage scenarios, Nadege significantly outperforms all baseline approaches.

Abstract: Networks have become complex systems that combine various concepts, techniques, and technologies. As a consequence, modelling or simulating them now is extremely complicated and researchers massively resort to prototyping techniques. Mininet is the most popular tool when it comes to evaluate SDN propositions. Mininet allows to emulate SDN networks on a single computer but shows its limitations with resource intensive experiments as the emulating host may become overloaded. To tackle this issue, we propose Distrinet , a distributed implementation of Mininet over multiple hosts, based on LXD/LXC, Ansible, and VXLAN tunnels. Distrinet uses the same API than Mininet, meaning that it is compatible with Mininet programs. It is generic and can deploy experiments on Linux clusters (e.g., Grid'5000), as well as on the Amazon EC2 cloud platform.

Abstract: PURPOSE: An accurate zonal segmentation of the prostate is required for prostate cancer (PCa) management with MRI. APPROACH: The aim of this work is to present UFNet, a deep learning-based method for automatic zonal segmentation of the prostate from T2-weighted (T2w) MRI. It takes into account the image anisotropy, includes both spatial and channelwise attention mechanisms and uses loss functions to enforce prostate partition. The method was applied on a private multicentric three-dimensional T2w MRI dataset and on the public two-dimensional T2w MRI dataset ProstateX. To assess the model performance, the structures segmented by the algorithm on the private dataset were compared with those obtained by seven radiologists of various experience levels. RESULTS: On the private dataset, we obtained a Dice score (DSC) of [Formula: see text] for the whole gland (WG), [Formula: see text] for the transition zone (TZ), and [Formula: see text] for the peripheral zone (PZ). Results were significantly better than other compared networks’ ([Formula: see text]). On ProstateX, we obtained a DSC of [Formula: see text] for WG, [Formula: see text] for TZ, and [Formula: see text] for PZ. These results are similar to state-of-the art results and, on the private dataset, are coherent with those obtained by radiologists. Zonal locations and sectorial positions of lesions annotated by radiologists were also preserved. CONCLUSIONS: Deep learning-based methods can provide an accurate zonal segmentation of the prostate leading to a consistent zonal location and sectorial position of lesions, and therefore can be used as a helping tool for PCa diagnosis.

Theobjective of our multi-rater study was to compare intra and inter-rater variability of PV frommanual planimetry and ellipsoid formulas.METHODS: Forty treatment-naive patients who underwent prostate MRI were selected from a localdatabase. PV and corresponding PSA density (PSAd) were estimated on 3D T2-weighted MRI(3T) by 7 independent radiologists using the traditional ellipsoid formula (TEF),the newerbiproximate ellipsoid formula (BPEF), and the manual planimetry method (MPM) used asground truth. Intra and inter-rater variability was calculated using the mixed model basedintraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).RESULTS: Mean volumes were 67.00 (±36.61), 66.07(±35.03), and 64.77(±38.27)cm 3 with the TEF,BPEF, and MPM methods respectively. Both TEF and BPEF overestimated PV relative toMPM, with the former presenting significant differences (+1.91cm3, IQ=[-0.33cm3, 5.07cm3],p-val=0.03). Both intra (ICC>0.90) and inter-rater (ICC>0.90) reproducibility were excellent. MPM had thehighest inter-rater reproducibility (ICC=0.999). Inter-rater PV variation led to discrepancies inclassification according to the clinical criterion of PSAd>0.15ng/mL for 2 patients (5%), 7patients (17.5%), and 9 patients (22.5%) when using MPM, TEF, and BPEF respectively.CONCLUSION: PV measurements using ellipsoid formulas and MPM are highly reproducible. MPM is a robustmethod for PV assessment and PSAd calculation, with the lowest variability. TEF showed ahigh degree of concordance with MPM but a slight overestimation of PV. Precise anatomiclandmarks as defined with the BPEF led to a more accurate PV estimation, but also to a highervariability.

Abstract: In the area of complex networks so far hypergraph models have received significantly less attention than the graphs. However, many real-life networks feature multiary relations (co-authorship, protein reactions) thus may be modeled way better by hypergraphs. Also, recent study by Broido and Clauset suggests that a power-law degree distribution is not as ubiquitous in the natural systems as it was thought so far. They experimentally confirm that majority of networks (56% of around 1000 social, biological, technological, transportation, and information networks that undergone the test) favor a power-law with an exponential cutoff over other distributions. We address two above observations by introducing a preferential attachment hypergraph model which allows for a vertex deactivation. The phenomenon of a vertex deactivation is rare in existing theoretical models and omnipresent in real-life scenarios (think of social network accounts which are not maintained forever, collaboration networks in which people eventually retire or technological networks in which devices may break down). We prove that the degree distribution of a proposed model follows a power-law with an exponential cutoff. We also check experimentally that a Scopus collaboration network has the same characteristic. We believe that our model will predict well the behavior of the systems from variety of domains.

21. MOrphologically-aware Jaccard-based ITerative Optimization (MOJITO) for Consensus Segmentation

Abstract: International audience; The metric dimension $MD(G)$ of an undirected graph $G$ is the cardinality of a smallest set of vertices that allows, through their distances to all vertices, to distinguish any two vertices of $G$. Many aspects of this notion have been investigated since its introduction in the 70's, including its generalization to digraphs. In this work, we study, for particular graph families, the maximum metric dimension over all strongly-connected orientations, by exhibiting lower and upper bounds on this value. We first exhibit general bounds for graphs with bounded maximum degree. In particular, we prove that, in the case of subcubic $n$-node graphs, all strongly-connected orientations asymptotically have metric dimension at most $\frac{n}{2}$, and that there are such orientations having metric dimension $\frac{2n}{5}$. We then consider strongly-connected orientations of grids. For a torus with $n$ rows and $m$ columns, we show that the maximum value of the metric dimension of a strongly-connected Eulerian orientation is asymptotically $\frac{nm}{2}$ (the equality holding when $n$, $m$ are even, which is best possible). For a grid with $n$ rows and $m$ columns, we prove that all strongly-connected orientations asymptotically have metric dimension at most $\frac{2nm}{3}$, and that there are such orientations having metric dimension $\frac{nm}{2}$.

Abstract: International audience; Network Function Virtualization (NFV) enables the virtualization of core-business network functions on top of a NFV infrastructure. NFV has gained an increasing attention in the telecommunication field these last few years. Virtual network functions (VNFs) can be represented by a set of virtual network function components (VNFCs). These VNFCs are typically designed with a redundancy scheme and need to be deployed against failures of, e.g., compute servers. However, such deployment must respect a particular resiliency mechanism for protection purposes. Therefore, choosing an efficient mapping of VNFCs to the compute servers is a challenging problem in the optimization of the software-defined, virtualization-based next generation of networks. In this paper, we model the problem of reliable VNFCs placement under anti-affinity constraints using several optimization techniques. A novel approach based on an extension of bin packing is proposed. We perform a comprehensive evaluation in terms of performance under realworld ISP networks along with synthetic traces. We show that our methods can calculate rapidly efficient solutions for large instances.

Abstract: International audience; Gridless sparse spike reconstruction is a rather new research field with significant results for the super-resolution problem, where we want to retrieve fine-scale details from a noisy and filtered acquisition. To tackle this problem, we are interested in optimisation under some prior, typically the sparsity i.e., the source is composed of spikes. Following the seminal work on the generalised LASSO for measures called the Beurling-Lasso (BLASSO), we will give a review on the chief theoretical and numerical breakthrough of the off-the-grid inverse problem, as we illustrate its usefulness to the super-resolution problem in Single Molecule Localisation Microscopy (SMLM) through new reconstruction metrics and tests on synthetic and real SMLM data we performed for this review.

Abstract: International audience; Young women frequently face implicit behavioral biases – through unfriendly gaze, gestures, or speech – in all aspects of their daily lives. This is particularly true in the field of engineering, where women are a minority, making it emotionally difficult for them to fit in and feel at home, and deterring young women to enter these fields. Yet these systematic implicit biases are very hard to observe without being the target of such behavior and being accustomed to the current “norms” and “ways of acting” in the society. At their root is the misalignment between the stereotypes associated with femininity, and those associated with computer engineering − a misalignment whose keystone is how the gaze of others objectifies the body of women, and whose consequence and means of perpetuation is discomfort. Our objective is to create an interactive piece to communicate the discomfort of women in engineering, to tell their stories and expose this misalignment. To address this objective, we harness virtual reality to create an experience that embodies the user in the place of a woman character who travels through three common scenes in her life as an engineer. We design different gaze interactions, gestures, and speech styles that reflect common patterns for implicit behavioral biases, including objectification, isolation, and belittlement. The piece is an application that can be experienced in a headset or in a web browser.

Abstract: Virtual, Contributed talk; International audience; In this paper, we initiate the study of local model reconstruction attacks for federated learning, where a honest-but-curious adversary eavesdrops the messages exchanged between the client and the server and reconstructs the local model of the client. The success of this attack enables better performance of other known attacks, such as the membership attack, attribute inference attacks, etc. We provide analytical guarantees for the success of this attack when training a linear least squares problem with full batch size and arbitrary number of local steps. One heuristic is proposed to generalize the attack to other machine learning problems. Experiments are conducted on logistic regression tasks, showing high reconstruction quality, especially when clients' datasets are highly heterogeneous (as it is common in federated learning).

Abstract: International audience; Immersive environments such as Virtual Reality (VR) are now a main area of interactive digital entertainment. The challenge to design personalized interactive VR systems is specifically to guide and adapt to the user's attention. Understanding the connection between the visual content and the human attentional process is therefore key. In this article, we investigate this connection by first proposing a new head motion predictor named HeMoG. HeMoG is a white-box model built on physics of rotational motion and gravitation. Second, we compare HeMoG with existing reference Deep Learning models. We show that HeMoG can achieve similar or better performance and provides insights on the inner workings of these black-box models. Third, we study HeMoG parameters in terms of video categories and prediction horizons to gain knowledge on the connection between visual saliency and the head motion process.

Abstract: Super-resolution fluorescence microscopy overcomes blurring arising from light diffraction, allowing the reconstruction of fine scale details in biological structures. Standard methods come at the expense of long acquisition time and/or harmful effects on the biological sample, which makes the problem quite challenging for the imaging of body cells. A promising new avenue is the exploitation of molecules fluctuations, allowing live-cell imaging with good spatio-temporal resolution through common microscopes and conventional fluorescent dyes. Several numerical algorithms have been developed in the literature and used for fluctuant time series. These techniques are developed within the discrete setting, namely the super-resolved image is defined on a finer grid than the observed images. On the contrary, gridless optimisation does not rely on a fine grid and is rather an optimisation of Dirac measures in number, amplitudes and positions. Abstract: conférence virtuelle; International audience; This paper presents a blockchain cloud deployment for an industrial vehicle use case. Hyperledger Sawtooth is used as distributed ledger with Rancher and Kubernetes as container-orchestration. This paper aims to explore the feasibility and scalability of the use case in a real-world scenario cloud deployment. Also, the blockchain performances is analyzed by stressing the implementation with virtual IoT clients, changing the blockchain settings, number of peer members and editing the core software default parameters. Benchmarks will reveal that Hyperledger Sawtooth performance can be as high as 25 transaction per seconds for a network of 4 nodes with PBFT consensus. Results lead us to discuss the possible components reducing throughput and blockchain commit rate.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, a novel beam steering reconfigurable antenna suitable for IoT application is presented. The antenna allows spatial filtering in crowded wireless IoT networks. The antenna structure, shown in Fig. 1(a), is composed of 4 wire patch antennas and operate in the 2.4 GHz band. The antenna can steer its radiation pattern to four overlapping endfire directions in the azimuth plane. The radiating elements and the control circuit are printed on two different printed circuit boards (PCBs), thus facilitating the integration into an IoT device. From Fig. 1(b) it is possible to notice that the antenna enables 4 pattern configurations rotated by an angular step of 90⁰. The maximum realized gain for each antennaconfiguration is approximately 4.2 dBi, while the front-to-back ratio (F/B) is equal to 9.8 dB. Each pattern configuration is activated using a 0.4 dB insertion loss SP4T switch, which is controlled using a 2-bit voltage combination generated by a microcontroller.

Abstract: International audience; To handle the ever growing demand of resource intensive experiments distributed, network emulation tools such as Mininet and Maxinet have been proposed. They automatically allocate experimental resources. In this work, we show that resources are poorly allocated, leading to resource overloading and hence to dubious experimental results. This is why we propose and implement a new placement module for distributed emulation. Our algorithms take into account both link and node resources and minimize the number of physical hosts needed to carry out the emulation. Through extensive numerical evaluations, simulations, and actual experiments , we show that our placement methods outperform existing ones and allowing to re-establish trust in experimental results.

Abstract: Background Accurate prostate zonal segmentation on magnetic resonance images (MRI) is a critical prerequisite for automated prostate cancer detection. We aimed to assess the variability of manual prostate zonal segmentation by radiologists on T2-weighted (T2W) images, and to study factors that may influence it. Methods Seven radiologists of varying levels of experience segmented the whole prostate gland (WG) and the transition zone (TZ) on 40 axial T2W prostate MRI images (3D T2W images for all patients, and both 3D and 2D images for a subgroup of 12 patients). Segmentation variabilities were evaluated based on: anatomical and morphological variation of the prostate (volume, retro-urethral lobe, intensity contrast between zones, presence of a PI-RADS ≥ 3 lesion), variation in image acquisition (3D vs 2D T2W images), and reader’s experience. Several metrics including Dice Score (DSC) and Hausdorff Distance were used to evaluate differences, with both a pairwise and a consensus (STAPLE reference) comparison. Results DSC was 0.92 (± 0.02) and 0.94 (± 0.03) for WG, 0.88 (± 0.05) and 0.91 (± 0.05) for TZ respectively with pairwise comparison and consensus reference. Variability was significantly (p p p Conclusions Variability is higher in the extreme parts of the gland, is influenced by changes in prostate morphology (volume, zone intensity ratio), and is relatively unaffected by the radiologist’s level of expertise.

Abstract: International audience; More than ever, data networks have demonstrated their central role in the world economy, but also in the well-being of humanity that needs fast and reliable networks. In parallel, with the emergence of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN), efficient network algorithms considered too hard to be put in practice in the past now have a second chance to be considered again. In this context, as new networks will be deployed and current ones get significant upgrades, it is thus time to rethink the network dimensioning problem with protection against failures. In this paper, we consider a path-based protection scheme with the global rerouting strategy in which, for each failure situation, there may be a new routing of all the demands. Our optimization task is to minimize the needed amount of bandwidth. After discussing the hardness of the problem, we develop two scalable mathematical models that we handle using both Column Generation and Benders Decomposition techniques. Through extensive simulations on real-world IP network topologies and on randomly generated instances, we show the effectiveness of our methods: they lead to savings of 40 to 48% of the bandwidth to be installed in a network to protect against failures compared to traditional schemes. Finally, our implementation in OpenDaylight demonstrates the feasibility of the approach. Its evaluation with Mininet shows that our solution provides sub-second recovery times, but the way it is implemented may greatly impact the amount of signaling traffic exchanged. In our evaluations, the recovery phase requires only a few tens of milliseconds for the fastest implementation, compared to a few hundreds of milliseconds for the slowest one.

Abstract: International audience; In 5G and beyond network architectures, operators and content providers base their content distribution strategies on Heterogeneous Networks, where macro and small cells are combined to offer better Quality of Service to wireless users. On top of such networks, edge caching and Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) joint transmissions are used to further improve performance. In this paper, we address the average delay minimization problem by first formulating it as a static optimization problem. Even though the problem is NP-hard we are able to solve it via an efficient algorithm that guarantees a 1 2-approximation ratio. We then proceed to propose two fully distributed and dynamic caching policies for the same problem. The first one asymptotically converges to the static optimal solution under the Independent Reference Model (IRM). The second one provides better results in practice under real (nonstationary) request processes. Our online policies outperform existing dynamic solutions that are PHY-unaware.

Abstract: Notre etude consiste dans l’analyse d’un dispositif experimental d’adaptation scolaire de pratiques de fanfiction dans le cadre de l’enseignement du francais au college. Elle repose sur le constat que la pratique litteratique adolescente de la fanfiction favorise le developpement de competences litteraires et numeriques et qu’elle presente des caracteristiques communes avec les pratiques d’ecriture litteraires et meme scolaires traditionnelles. En ce sens, elle peut presenter un potentiel didactique pertinent. Cependant rapprocher les pratiques informelles du cadre scolaire presente le risque que celles‑ci perdent leur attractivite et ne permettent plus de dejouer un rapport negatif a l’ecrit. Nous analyserons si l’experimentation fanfiction, menee sur la duree d’une annee scolaire, a pu permettre de stimuler durablement l’engagement des eleves et de faire evoluer positivement leur rapport a l’ecrit.

Abstract: International audience; The Clock Constraint Specification Language (CCSL) is a clock-based specification language for real-time embedded systems. With logical clocks defined as first-class citizens, CCSL provides a natural way for describing clock constraints in synchronous systems — a classical model of concurrency for real-time embedded systems. In this paper, we propose a clock-based dynamic logic called CCSL Dynamic Logic (CDL) for the verification of CCSL specifications in synchronous systems. It extends the first-order dynamic logic with a synchronous execution mechanism in its program model and with CCSL primitives as terms in its logical formulae. We build a sound and relatively complete proof system for CDL to support the verification. Compared with previous approaches for verifying CCSL specifications, which are based on model checking and SMT checking techniques, our approach, which is based on theorem-proving, offers a unified verification framework in which both bounded and unbounded CCSL specifications can be verified. Technically, with the proof system of CDL, a complex CDL formula can be semi-automatically transformed into a set of quantifier-free, arithmetical first-order logic (QF-AFOL) formulae which can be checked by an SMT solver in an efficient way. As a case study, we analyze a simple synchronous system throughout the paper to illustrate how CDL works. We analyze and prove the soundness and completeness of the proof system for CDL. Currently, CDL is partially mechanized in Coq.

Abstract: With the increased complexity of today’s networks, emulation has become an essential tool to test and validate a new proposed networking solution. As these solutions also become more and more complex with the introduction of softwarization, network function virtualization, andartificial intelligence, there is a need of scalable tools to carry out resource intensive emulations. To this end, distributed emulation has been proposed. However, distributing a network emulation over a physical platform requires to choose carefully how the experiment is run over the equipment at disposal. In this work, we evaluate the placement algorithms which were proposed for, and implemented in, existing distributed emulation tools. We show that they may lead to bad placements in which several hardware resources such as link bandwidth, CPU, and memory are overloaded. Through extensive experiments, we exhibit the impact of such placements on important network metrics such as real network bandwidth usage and emulation execution time, and show that they may lead to unreliable results and to a waste of platform resources.To deal with this issue, we propose and implement a new placement module for distributed emulation. Abstract: With the increased complexity of today’s networks, emulation has become an essential tool to test and validate a new proposed networking solution. As these solutions also become more and more complex with the introduction of softwarization, network function virtualization, andartificial intelligence, there is a need of scalable tools to carry out resource intensive emulations. To this end, distributed emulation has been proposed. However, distributing a network emulation over a physical platform requires to choose carefully how the experiment is run over the equipment at disposal. In this work, we evaluate the placement algorithms which were proposed for, and implemented in, existing distributed emulation tools. We show that they may lead to bad placements in which several hardware resources such as link bandwidth, CPU, and memory are overloaded. Through extensive experiments, we exhibit the impact of such placements on important network metrics such as real network bandwidth usage and emulation execution time, and show that they may lead to unreliable results and to a waste of platform resources.To deal with this issue, we propose and implement a new placement module for distributed emulation. Our algorithms take into account both link and node resources and minimize the number of physical hosts needed to carry out the emulation. Abstract: International audience; We use a statistical micro matching procedure to obtain a synthetic dataset to investigate the risk of fuel poverty in small areas. Specifically, we link 19,174 homes with Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) in the Italian province of Treviso with information - from the General Census of Population and Housing and Household Budget Survey - about the socio-economic features of the families that most likely inhabit them. Based on this original dataset, we find that poor housing is as important as low income and the use of natural gas in determining fuel poverty. In particular, the risk of fuel poverty is increased by i) the energy inefficiency of the home; ii) the size of the home in relation to household size; iii) the lower total household expenditure. Conversely, the risk decreases when the main heating is natural gas and/or the home is endowed with renewable energy sources. Our results show that information in EPCs, matched at the micro level with the socio-economic data usually available from administrative sources or surveys, can be used to identify - on the one hand - the individual households and the municipal areas risking fuel poverty, and - on the other - the most effective policy options to tackle the phenomenon.

Abstract: International audience; This paper introduces the largest connected subgraph game played on an undirected graph G. In each round, Alice first colours an uncoloured vertex of G red, and then, Bob colours an uncoloured vertex of G blue, with all vertices initially uncoloured. Once all the vertices are coloured, Alice (Bob, resp.) wins if there is a red (blue, resp.) connected subgraph whose order is greater than the order of any blue (red, resp.) connected subgraph. We first prove that, if Alice plays optimally, then Bob can never win, and define a large class of graphs (called reflection graphs) in which the game is a draw. We then show that determining the outcome of the game is PSPACE-complete, even in bipartite graphs of small diameter, and that recognising reflection graphs is GI-hard. We also prove that the game is a draw in paths if and only if the path is of even order or has at least 11 vertices, and that Alice wins in cycles if and only if the cycle is of odd length. Lastly, we give an algorithm to determine the outcome of the game in cographs in linear time.

Abstract: This paper is concerned with the dynamics and the productivity of biomass in a continuous microalgae culture contaminated by predators. We propose a general model describing a cultivation system where photolimited microalgae are grazed by zooplankton. We state necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a coexistence equilibrium. If this equilibrium exists, then microalgae and predators converge either to it or to a globally asymptotically stable periodic solution. In absence of the coexistence equilibrium, any solution approaches either an equilibrium characterized by the presence of algae and the absence of predators, or the washout equilibrium. This description of the dynamics allows to define the microalgae productivity in the long-term (i.e. when an attracting set is reached). With the help of numerical simulations, we show that operating the system at optimal (constant) dilution rate triggers the extinction of predators.

Abstract: We consider predicting the user's head motion in 360° videos, with 2 modalities only: the past user's positions and the video content (not knowing other users' traces). We make two main contributions. First, we re-examine existing deep-learning approaches for this problem and identify hidden flaws from a thorough root-cause analysis. Second, from the results of this analysis, we design a new proposal establishing state-of-the-art performance. First, re-assessing the existing methods that use both modalities, we obtain the surprising result that they all perform worse than baselines using the user’s trajectory only. A root-cause analysis of the metrics, datasets and neural architectures shows in particular that (i) the content can inform the prediction for horizons longer than 2 to 3 sec. (existing methods consider shorter horizons), and that (ii) to compete with the baselines, it is necessary to have a recurrent unit dedicated to process the positions, but this is not sufficient. Second, from a re-examination of the problem supported with the concept of Structural-RNN, we design a new deep neural architecture, named TRACK. TRACK achieves state-of-the-art performance on all considered datasets and prediction horizons, outperforming competitors by up to 20% on focus-type videos and horizons 2-5 seconds. Abstract: International audience; The automotive industry is evolving with connected,autonomous, and electric vehicles handling huge amounts ofdata exchanges between participants in its ecosystem. These data transactions should be certified and valid for the ecosystem to function in an efficient and trusted manner. To address the data integrity and provenance issues, we adopt blockchain technology. In this paper, we propose a consortium blockchain architecture to solve the popular use-case of odometer fraud in the automotive industry. We design the architecture from two approaches: a nonwallet and wallet-based vehicle data certification followed by its qualitative and quantitative evaluation.

Abstract: Objectifs L’objectif de l’etude est le developpement d’un outil de segmentation automatique de l’anatomie zonale prostatique sur la sequence en ponderation T2 en IRM, base sur l’apprentissage profond (reseau de neurones), robuste quelle que soit la variabilite morphologique de la prostate et les caracteristiques techniques des sequences (constructeurs, aimants, epaisseur de coupes, champs de vue). Methodes Nous avons utilise une variante du reseau U-Net 3D de Isensee avec le Dice generalise pour fonction de cout, que nous avons entraine sur les bases de donnees publiques ProstateX (79 volumes) et PROMISE12 (50 volumes) re-echantillonees a une resolution de 1 × 1 × 3 mm, avec une repartition entrainement/validation de 4/1, et ce durant 150 epochs. En post-traitement nous avons extrait la plus grande zone connexe. Pour les tests nous avons utilise les bases de donnees NCI-ISBI-Dx (29 volumes) et MSD-P (32 volumes), ainsi qu’une base de donnee privee (10 volumes, 2 types de constructeurs). Resultats Pour evaluer la performance du reseau nous avons utilise une mesure volumique (Dice). Les Resultats etaient variables, fonction des bases de donnees utilisees : – sur la base de donnees MSD-P, dont les caracteristiques images sont tres homogenes (meme centre et meme constructeur machine) le Dice moyen etait bon evalue a 0,899 (± 0,033) ; – sur la base de donnees NCI-ISBI-Dx, comportant des IRM acquises sur des machines de constructeurs differents, la performance est moindre mais correct avec un Dice moyen de 0,840 (± 0,028) ; – sur la base de donnees privee avec des constructeurs et des types de sequences differentes le Dice moyen etait de 0,903 (± 0,019) a 0,610 (± 0,310). La performance etait superieure pour les donnees proches de celles utilises a l’entrainement ( Fig. 1 , Fig. 2 , Fig. 3 ). Conclusion Ce reseau de neurones est la premiere etape d’un framework qui fonctionnera secondairement a des resolutions plus elevees sur une zone reduite, pour lequel il serait interessant d’integrer l’anisotropie et une metrique de distance spatiale. La performance du reseau est fortement liee aux caracteristiques des donnees utilisees pour l’entrainement (type de constructeur, champ de vue utilise).

Abstract: International audience; The use of the Internet in the classroom is a topical issue within the school. Through a case study, we analyze a device that allows students to tap into available online resources to study literary texts. This is based both on the use of digital technology in the classroom and on a practice of text analysis based on students' research and proposals rather than on the teacher's choices. We analyse how the implementation of this system accentuates some of the teacher's concerns and, by studying two interviews conducted at the beginning and end of the experiment, we seek to identify some signs of appropriation. The analysis establishes that the process is based in particular on the way in which the teacher manages to relate his habits to the technical and didactic constraints induced by the system but also to the actual heterogeneous digital media practices of the pupils. This case tends to illustrate that the introduction of a digital learning system requires a long period of appropriation and highlights the need for explicit instruction in digital media literacy skills based on taking into account students' informal practices in the classroom.; L’usage d’internet en classe est un sujet d’actualité au sein de l'institution scolaire. À travers une étude de cas, nous analysons un dispositif permettant aux élèves de puiser dans les ressources disponibles en ligne pour étudier les textes littéraires. Celui-ci s’appuie à la fois sur l’utilisation du numérique dans la classe et sur une pratique de l’analyse des textes reposant sur les recherches et propositions des élèves plutôt que sur les choix du professeur. Nous analysons comment la mise en œuvre de ce dispositif accentue certaines préoccupations de l’enseignant et, en étudiant comparativement deux entretiens menés au début et en fin d’expérimentation, nous cherchons à cerner certains signes d’appropriation. L’analyse établit que le processus repose notamment sur la manière dont l’enseignant parvient à mettre en relation ses habitudes avec les contraintes techniques et didactiques induites par le dispositif, mais aussi avec les pratiques médiatiques numériques hétérogènes effectives des élèves. Ce cas tend à illustrer que l’introduction d’un dispositif didactique numérique exige un temps long d’appropriation et souligne la nécessité d’un enseignement explicite des compétences en littératie médiatique numérique reposant sur la prise en compte des pratiques informelles des élèves dans la classe.

Abstract: Encadrée par Léonardo Lizzi et Luca Santamaria; The trends in technology allow the decrease in both size and power consumption of electronic systems. This reduction in size and power has made it possible for small devices to perform complex tasks and run on low voltages portable batteries [1]. The projected number of deployed Internet of Things (IoT) devices is expected to reach billions in the upcoming years. IoT devices have been equipped with several sensors and can communicate with other devices. Therefore, it is unthinkable that this huge number of instruments can be powered by a battery with all the related problems, such as the periodic battery replacement or its recharging. Energy harvesting is a way to obtain electrical energy directly from the environment. Energy is used in everything by humans, such as gas and electricity, or the physical energy needed to carry out their daily tasks, like walking to work. Each of these activities requires both the creation and output of the energy needed to carry them out. For this reason, in the environment there is a lot of energy lost in the processes from all available sources as heat, light, radio waves,vibration and movement. Radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting is an attractive new technique that relies on collecting ambient RF energy in the goal of repurposing it. In fact, it means taking energy that would be otherwise wasted, capturing and utilising it, and finally trying to exploit it in the form of electricity. The main objective of this work is the design of an antenna combined with a rectifying circuit known as rectifying antenna (or rectenna), which is employed to harvest energy from electromagnetic waves. This energy is mainly utilized to wake up devices with low power requirements, whose function is the collection, processing, and transmission of data. Even though the ambient RF energy is widely broadcasted with many systems, the power density is extremely little in free space. Hence [2], the creation of a high performance energy harvesting system is a challenging requirement for supporting the small available power densities. In this manner, devices become not only environmentally friendly, but also self-sustaining (using the energy lost in their functionality to power themselves). Furthermore, the rectenna must be reconfigurable, so it must be capable of modifying the antenna input impedance to adapt to the variation of the Schottky diode characteristics of the rectifier. Considering the principle of reciprocity of antennas, the same antenna is spent for data transmission and for recovering the surrounding ambient energy. In this report, after the explanation of the context of energy harvesting, the main objective and the challenges, first an accurate analysis of the state of the art of rectennas is presented. Then the role of the rectifier is exhibited together with its realization through the ADS software, which is an electronic design automation software for RF, microwave, and high speed digital applications produced by Keysight. With the help of the study of the state of the art, the simulation results of the rectifying circuit in function of the input power have been obtained by considering a fixed value of the load. These results are critical to ensure the impedance matching with the antenna. Subsequently, the identification of an interesting antenna structure has made possible via CST Microwave Studio (the electromagnetic fields simulation software) to understand the design methodology and, therefore, which parameter must be varied in order to achieve the ideal case of the reconfiguration. Instead, the final part of the thesis is dedicated to the practical implementation of the reconfiguration by means of an electronic switch and to the evaluations on the total efficiency of the rectenna system. Especially, this research is preliminary to a future experimental work.

Abstract: International audience; Densification through small cells and caching in base stations have been proposed to deal with the increasing demand for Internet content and the related overload on the cellular infrastructure. However, these solutions are expensive to install and maintain. Instead, using vehicles acting as mobile caches might represent an interesting alternative. In our work, we assume that users can query nearby vehicles for some time, and be redirected to the cellular infrastructure when the deadline expires. Beyond reducing costs, in such an architecture, through vehicle mobility, a user sees a much larger variety of locally accessible content within only few minutes. Unlike most of the related works on delay tolerant access, we consider the impact on the user experience by assigning different retrieval deadlines per content. In our paper, we provide the following contributions: (i) we model analytically such a scenario; (ii) we formulate an optimization problem to maximize the traffic offloaded while ensuring user experience guarantees; (iii) we propose two variable deadline policies; (iv) we perform realistic trace-based simulations, and we show that, even with low technology penetration rate, more than 60% of the total traffic can be offloaded which is around 20% larger compared to existing allocation policies.
