Actualité d'un sous-titre : histoire, sciences sociales En 1994, dans le sillage du « tournant critique », les Annales changent de sous-titre et substituent au triptyque « Économies, Sociétés, Civilisations » le couple « Histoire, Sciences Sociales ». Bien loin de signifier l'adoption d'un nouveau paradigme unitaire ou hégémonique pour l'histoire, la revue a, à cette occasion, cherché à explorer et expérimenter de nouveaux objets et modes de raisonnement en s'ouvrant davantage aux approches et aux méthodes des autres disciplines des sciences sociales. À partir d'une cartographie rapide des formes et des limites de l'interdisciplinarité dans les Annales, cet article propose de réfléchir aux évolutions des configurations épistémologiques qui traversent plus largement l'espace des sciences sociales depuis trente ans. Il souligne la prise en compte croissante de l'historicisation des catégories et de l'historicité des phénomènes étudiés dans les différentes disciplines des sciences sociales. Il met également l'accent sur de nouvelles configurations de savoirs et, en particulier, sur le rôle important joué par l'émergence des studies dans la redéfinition théorique de nouveaux programmes critiques et scientifiques, par-delà les frontières disciplinaires traditionnelles et les partages intellectuels hérités du xixe siècle. Les Annales font ainsi le pari que l'histoire et l'historicité constituent une ressource pour nourrir les débats épistémologiques des prochaines années et créer un lieu commun d'expérimentation et de circulation entre les sciences. This reseacrh to interpreting the shifting forms of Javanese culture in Canting novel by Arswendo Atmowiloto: literary anthropological studies. This research is a literary research with hermeneutical method. The data in this study are words and sentences relating to the shift of Javanese culture in Canting novels. The data collection technique is the documentation which further read, understand, and record, and classify the data. Data analysis techniques by reviewing data and interpreting research data and drawing conclusions. The results show that in the novel Canting by Arswendo Atmowiloto there is a shift in Javanese culture in terms of knowledge, belief, art, and morals, as well as laws and customs. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginterpretasikan bentuk-bentuk pergeseran budaya Jawa dalam novel Canting karya Arswendo Atmowiloto:kajian antropologi sastra. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian sastra dengan metode hermeneutika. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah kata dan kalimat yang berkaitan dengan pergeseran budaya Jawa dalam novel Canting. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data adalah dokumentasi yang selanjutnya membaca, memahami, dan mencatat, serta mengklasifikasikan data. Teknik analisis data dengan meninjau kembali data dan menginterpretasikan data penelitian dan menarik kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam novel Canting karya Arswendo Atmowiloto terdapat pergeseran budaya Jawa ditinjau dari pengetahuan, kepercayaan, kesenian, dan moral, serta hukum dan adat istiadat.

A literary criticism of the book "Abuses" by Alphonso Lingis is presented in which reflected existential alterity. It mentions a radical reformulation of the style and content of philosophical writing and also highlights a unique form of epistolary creative nonfiction that blends philosophy, anthropology and travel writing.

The establishment of cause and effect relationships is a fundamental objective of scientific research. Many lines of evidence can be used to make cause–effect inferences. When statistical data are involved, alternative explanations for the statistical relationship need to be ruled out. These include chance (apparent patterns due to random factors), confounding effects (a relationship between two variables because they are each associated with an unmeasured third variable), and sampling bias (effects due to preexisting properties of compared groups). The gold standard for managing these issues is a controlled randomized experiment. In disciplines such as biological anthropology, where controlled experiments are not possible for many research questions, causal inferences are made from observational data. Methods that statisticians recommend for this difficult objective have not been widely adopted in the biological anthropology literature. This article draws on theories of phenomenology, visual anthropology, and embodiment to explore Advaita Vedānta's sensorial and embodied modes of praxis. It interweaves two threads based on a case study of the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, an Advaita Vedānta institute in Tamil Nadu, India: (1) an ethnographic analysis of the intersections of textual study, religious praxis, and social-environmental context; and (2) the ways these intersections are grounded in Advaita Vedānta's source texts. This article focuses on the unique potential of experiential sensory-ethnographic film for revealing these intersections and argues that such films are uniquely capable of providing viewers phenomenological and sensorial insights into individual subjectivities within religious praxis. It further probes how the Advaitin follows a roadmap of metaphysical models, ritual praxis, and receiving a teacher's textual performance. This process reformulates bodies and identities towards the nondualistic through an interiorization of texts and is essential for remembering and transmitting the tradition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a literary criticism of the book "El diablo y Michael Taussig," by Aäron Moszoski Van Loon. It is commented that the main objective of this book is to offer a glimpse into the philosophical architecture of contemporary anthropology from the analysis and reconstruction of the work published by the Australian anthropologist Michael Taussig between 1975 and 2012.

The author reflects on the history of anthropology. Topics discussed include the 100th death anniversary of anthropologists Sir Edward B. Tylor and Émile Durkheim, the contributions of anthropology's founding fathers Bronislaw Malinowski to the field, and the author's suggested books related to anthropology.

A 2017 citation study looked at four scholarly anthropology journals in order to evaluate current research trends. This study examined the following journals: Current Anthropology, the American Anthropologist, the American Ethnologist, and the Journal of Anthropological Research. The results showed an average of 89.9 citations per article, which is a large increase over previous studies. The breakdown by the largest two categories showed 48.1% citations to total books, compared to 41.2% for scholarly journals. All other source types of citations comprised only 10.7% of total citations. These results were compared to a 2005 study by William Robinson and Paul Posten of the same four journals from 1999. Although the languages of Native North America and the linguistic communities that spoke these languages once provided the key data for American anthropology's early agenda under Boas, linguistic anthropologists continue their study in a manner inflected to contemporary political economic realities and theoretical concerns. One area of scholarship that displays some continuity with earlier research is the study of Native American place-names, but even here contemporary researchers have explored the ethnographic surround of naming practices, including the multilingualism and multiculturalism of today's indigenous communities. Other research topics that have had less precedent include verbal art, language ideologies, and linguistic racism. Recent research in Native North American verbal art has advanced the appreciation of indigenous poetics but also developed a "critical" ethnopoetics that attends to a larger political economic context. Much existing literature in anthropology suggests that teaching is rare in non-Western societies, and that cultural transmission is mostly vertical (parent-to-offspring). However, applications of evolutionary theory to humans predict both teaching and non-vertical transmission of culturally learned skills, behaviors, and knowledge should be common cross-culturally. Here, we review this body of theory to derive predictions about when teaching and non-vertical transmission should be adaptive, and thus more likely to be observed empirically. Using three interviews conducted with rural Fijian populations, we find that parents are more likely to teach than are other kin types, high-skill and highly valued domains are more likely to be taught, and oblique transmission is associated with high-skill domains, which are learned later in life. Finally, we conclude that the apparent conflict between theory and empirical evidence is due to a mismatch of theoretical hypotheses and empirical claims across disciplines, and we reconcile theory with the existing literature in light of our results. This paper aims to analyze the new aspects that pajelança cabocla presents in Amazonia, and specifically in Soure (Marajo Island/PA) through the pajelança presented by D. Zeneida Lima, whose practices and beliefs are characterized by the worship of Mother Earth and other entities (caruanas, Girador, Auí, and others), presenting a ecological discourse and selfdeclared indigenous ancestry to her practices and beliefs. The pajé (shaman) Zeneida Lima defends her practice as being a "pure", true, pajelança, opposing to other forms of pajelança very present in Amazonia and that are beyond elements of indigenous culture, also afro-brazilian religions and popular Catholicism, when she tries to unlink to her practice, specially referring to the cult of catholic saints. This is a survey that has been developed since 2009, and will culminate in a master thesis in Science of Religion by Uepa. The objectives of this study are present the Zeneida Lima's pajelança, comparing to other forms of this cult described in anthropologist literature, and analyze the function of woman in religious and symbolic context of pajelança in Soure. Art and shamanism are often represented as timeless, universal features of human experience, with an apparently immutable relationship. Shamanism is frequently held to represent the origin of religion and shamans are characterized as the first artists, leaving their infamous mark in the cave art of Upper Palaeolithic Europe. Despite a disconnect of several millennia, modern artists too, from Wassily Kandinsky and Vincent van Gogh, to Joseph Beuys and Marcus Coates, have been labelled as inspired visionaries who access the trance-like states of shamans, and these artists of the 'white cube' or gallery setting are cited as the inheritors of an enduring tradition of shamanic art. But critical engagement with the history of thinking on art and shamanism, drawing on discourse analysis, shows these concepts are not unchanging, timeless 'elective affinities'; they are constructed, historically situated and contentious. In this paper, I examine how art and shamanism have been conceived and their relationship entangled from the Renaissance to the present, focussing on the interpretation of Upper Palaeolithic cave art in the first half of the twentieth century—a key moment in this trajectory—to illustrate my case.
