Motivation in general, and social motivation in particular are important for interpersonal functioning in individuals with schizophrenia. Still, their roles after accounting for social cognition, are not well understood. The sample consisted of 147 patients with schizophrenia. General motivation was measured using the Behavioral inhibition/activation scale (BIS/BAS). Social motivation was measured by Passive social withdrawal and Active social avoidance items from PANSS. Interpersonal functioning was evaluated with Birchwoods Social Functioning Scale (SFS). We used Exploratory Graph Analysis for network estimation and community detection. Active social avoidance, passive social withdrawal, and social withdrawal/engagement (from SFS) were the most important nodes. In addition, three distinct communities were identified: Social cognition, Social motivation, and Interpersonal functioning. Notably, the BIS and BAS measures of general motivation were not part of any community. BAS showed stronger links to functioning than BIS. Passive social withdrawal was more strongly linked to interpersonal functioning than social cognitive abilities. Results suggest that social motivation, especially social approach, is more closely related to interpersonal functioning in schizophrenia than general motivation. In contrast, we found that general motivation was largely unrelated to social motivation. This pattern highlights the importance of type of motivation for understanding variability in interpersonal difficulties in schizophrenia.

- Abstract
The construction industry has one of the highest known rates of occupational incidents. Construction organizations are increasingly recognizing the significance of occupational safety and health (OSH) problems as a prominent area of concern. Though numerous studies have shown that employees' behavior and approach towards OSH are impacted by Environmental (such as governmental regulations), Personal and Organizational factors, there is a lack of consensus on the organizational elements. Hence, the primary objective of this study is to ascertain the organizational elements that influence employees' adherence to OSH and suggest improvement needs, if any. To achieve the objective, the study adopted a qualitative research approach and conducted semi-structured interviews with fifteen highly experienced professionals in the construction industry. Using manual thematic analysis, the interview transcripts were analyzed to identify and extract major themes based on commonalities. Six themes were recognized: Empowerment, communication, knowledge management and learning and development, leadership and top management commitment, internal systems and processes, and work culture and spirituality. The findings of this study will assist the industry in developing a framework of effective solutions for OSH management. These themes can form the basis of a good approach to an integrated OSH strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study proposes a deep learning algorithm-based model to predict the repair and maintenance costs of apartment buildings, by collecting repair and maintenance cost data that were incurred in an actual apartment complex. More specifically, a long short-term memory (LSTM) algorithm was adopted to develop the prediction model, while the robustness of the model was verified by recurrent neural networks (RNN) and gated recurrent units (GRU) models. Design/methodology/approach: Repair and maintenance cost data incurred in actual apartment complexes is collected, along with various input variables, such as repair and maintenance timing (calendar year), usage types, building ages, temperature, precipitation, wind speed, humidity and solar radiation. Then, the LSTM algorithm is employed to predict the costs, while two other learning models (RNN and GRU) are taught to validate the robustness of the LSTM model based on R-squared values, mean absolute errors and root mean square errors. Findings: The LSTM model's learning is more accurate and reliable to predict repair and maintenance costs of apartment complex, compared to the RNN and GRU models' learning performance. The proposed model provides a valuable tool that can contribute to mitigating financial management risks and reducing losses in forthcoming apartment construction projects. Originality/value: Gathering a real-world high-quality data set of apartment's repair and maintenance costs, this study provides a highly reliable prediction model that can respond to various scenarios to help apartment complex managers plan resources more efficiently, and manage the budget required for repair and maintenance more effectively. 12. Approach Versus Avoidance and the Polarity Principle—On an Unrecognized Ambiguity of the Approach/Avoidance Paradigm.

- Abstract
The present study examined the role of polarity correspondence (Proctor & Cho, 2006) in the approach/avoidance task. It was hypothesized that the typically found approach/avoidance effect could (at least in part) be explained by matching polarities of the stimuli and the response alternatives. To test this hypothesis, polarity of the stimuli was manipulated in three experiments. Experiment 1 showed that two neutral categories elicited an approach/avoidance asymmetry similar to that typically found for positive and negative stimuli when the categorization of stimuli was framed as "yes (Category A)" versus "no (not Category A)." This pattern is explained by assuming a polarity match between the "yes" category and the approach response. Experiment 2 used positive (flowers) versus negative (insects) categories. In a control condition, a typical compatibility effect was found (i.e., positive [negative] items relatively facilitated approach [avoidance]). However, when the task consisted of categorizing insects as the + polarity ("yes, insect" vs. "no, no insect"), the compatibility effect reversed; it was significantly increased when flowers were the "yes" category. In Experiment 3, polarity of positive/negative stimuli (flowers/insects) was manipulated prior to completion of a standard approach/avoidance task with flowers and insects as stimuli. Approximately the same pattern of results (albeit less pronounced) was found as in Experiment 2. The results suggest that results with the approach/avoidance task interpreted in terms of valence or motivational relevance may be (partly) due to polarity differences. This should be taken into account if these effects are routinely interpreted in terms of valence or motivational relevance. Public Significance Statement: It is an established finding that positive stimuli facilitate approach behaviors and negative stimuli facilitate avoidance behaviors. This effect is usually interpreted in terms of motivational distance regulation or the evaluative congruence of stimuli and responses. Therefore the effect plays a role in more applied fields of psychology (psychopathology, social psychology). However, we argue and show that structural asymmetries of binary classifications, termed polarity, and polarity correspondence (Proctor & Cho, 2006) can (at least partially) explain the effect described above by assuming that the congruence of the polarities of stimulus categories and the response alternatives facilitates responses. Gasless endoscopic thyroidectomy obviates the necessity for carbon dioxide insufflation to establish a surgical workspace, thus mitigating the potential complications associated with this practice. This technique presents several benefits, such as the maintenance of neck functionality, minimal scarring, and enhanced visibility of the surgical field, which contribute to its extensive adoption in clinical settings. The objective of this study is to synthesize the current methodologies of gasless endoscopic thyroidectomy and to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages inherent to each technique. It aims to offer theoretical insights to assist surgeons in determining the most suitable approach for gasless endoscopic thyroidectomy in their clinical practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to identify the effect of balance and plyometric training on some variables of physical and skill performance and digital level in the javelin throwing competition. The researcher used the experimental approach with a system of two groups, one experimental and the other a control group. The research sample was chosen deliberately from the distinguished students of the Faculty of Physical Education, numbering (12) students who were trained to reach the digital level of the Alexandria region in javelin throwing. They were divided into two groups with (6) students for each group, and the training program was applied to them for a period of 8 weeks after conducting physical measurements, mechanical imaging, and measuring the digital level before and after the experiment, When discussing and analyzing the results, the most important conclusions were first: The use of balance and plyometric exercises positively affects the physical variables of javelin throw competitors. Second: The use of balance and plyometric exercises has a positive effect on the kinematic variables of the javelin throwing phases. Third: The use of balance and plyometric exercises has a positive effect on the digital level of javelin throwers. Therefore, the researcher recommended using balance and plyometric exercises to develop the physical, skill and digital performance levels of javelin throwers. It was also recommended to conduct similar studies on the effect of using balance and plyometric exercises in some other athletics competitions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective To explore the safety and efficacy of interventional therapy of cavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistulas (CS-DAVF) with different approaches and strategies. Methods Retrieve the prospective vascular disease database of the Vascular Disease Center, Department of Neurosurgery, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University. Data from all patients with CS-DAVF who attempted interventional therapy from January 2013 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. All information including patients’ general data, clinical symptoms and signs, imaging data, surgical information, and follow-up results were collected. The data was summarized and analyzed. Results A total of 71 patients with CS-DAVF attempted interventional therapy. Among them, 54 cases (76.1%) presented with ocular symptoms as the main sign, including decreased vision, chemosis, exophthalmos, limited movement, and ptosis. Sixty-six patients (93.0%) successfully completed the operation, with transvenous approach in 40 cases (60.6%), transarterial approach in 21 cases (31.8%), and combined arteriovenous approach in five cases (7.6%). Onyx was combined with coil in 29 cases (43.0%), Onyx alone in 36 cases (54.5%), and coil alone in one case (1.5%). DSA immediately after embolization showed complete occlusion in 57 cases (86.4%) and subtotal occlusion in nine cases (13.6%). Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that surgical approach [adjusted OR (aOR) 3.854, 95%CI 0.821-18.101, P=0.087<0.1] and Onyx combined with coil (aOR 8.282, 95%CI 0.972-70.617, P=0.053<0.1) were related to the critical cure rate. Surgery-related complications occurred in 19 patients (28.8%), among of them, 15 were with new or worsened exist ocular symptoms, two were with facial paresthesia, and two were with neurological dysfunction affecting limb movement. Univariate logistic regression analysis results showed that surgical complications were not correlated with various influencing factors. Sixty-five patients (98.5%) completed one-year clinical follow-up. Among the 19 patients with surgical complications, 16 cases completely disappeared, two cases improved, one case lost follow-up, and the original symptoms of the remaining patients completely disappeared except for one case who still had diplopia. Forty patients (60.6%) were followed up with DSA, and no recurrence was reported. Conclusions The transvenous approach is more advantageous than the transarterial approach in the interventional therapy of CS-DAVF, and the inferior petrosal sinus approach can be the first choice. The use of transvenous approach and Onyx combined with coil is related to the critical cure rate. The efficacy is considerable. Although some patients have complications, the majority of patients are transient surgical complications, and satisfactory clinical efficacy can be obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WAR , *CONFLICT management , *ARMIES , *ARAB-Israeli conflict , *COUNTRIES - Abstract
The Arab-Israeli conflict is considered one of the longest and most difficult conflicts that the Middle East is still going through. After the October 6, 1973 war, which was a turning point in the Arab-Israeli conflict, countries and regular armies withdrew from the military conflict, and the resistance factions and various organizations took over the management of the conflict, opening the door to It is wide open to intermittent or fleeting wars raging on Palestinian land, between the Palestinians and the Israeli army. The images of these wars took different shapes. Because we are facing two different parties, a resistance and a regular army. Consequently, the mechanisms of confrontation differed from time to time, and were also longer or shorter from time to time. This study raises the question about the mechanisms that Israel used in managing the conflicts that took place in the Palestinian territories, and how did the resistance confront it? Are there different mechanisms that Israel violated according to the nature of each conflict and the differences in its elements? Or are there multiple mechanisms that differed depending on the conflict? What mechanism can Israel take if the resistance launches a war similar to the AlAqsa Flood? The study is divided into four sections: The first section: The Israeli approach to the conflict before the Al-Aqsa flood The second section: The Israeli approach to the conflict during the Al-Aqsa flood The third section: anticipating Israel’s management of the conflict Fourth section: The repercussions of the Al-Aqsa flood [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TOTAL hip replacement , *PREOPERATIVE risk factors , *HETEROTOPIC ossification , *BIVARIATE analysis , *REGRESSION analysis - Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the impact of surgical approach and post-operative prophylaxis on heterotopic ossification (HO) development after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods: A retrospective analysis of 312 patients who underwent THA between January 2009 and April 2016. Patients were categorized by surgical approach (direct lateral or posterolateral), prosthesis type, and post-operative prophylaxis (Etoricoxib 60 mg daily for two weeks). Two orthopaedic surgeons independently assessed radiographs at serial intervals, and HO was graded as per Brooker classification. Bivariate analysis and regression modelling were performed to assess the associations and confounding effects of different variables, Results: Bivariate analysis identified factors correlated with higher HO incidence: absence of prophylaxis, older age, longer symptom evolution, and lower pre-surgery physical activity. Regression modelling showed a correlation between the direct-lateral approach, post-operative prophylaxis, symptom evolution, and higher HO incidence. Conclusion: Patients with longer symptom evolution before surgery and without post-operative prophylaxis are at higher risk of developing HO. While the direct lateral approach showed higher HO rates, the difference was insignificant. A two-week prophylactic regimen of Etoricoxib 60 mg daily after THA effectively reduced HO formation. Pharmacological prophylaxis should be evaluated case-by-case, considering patient characteristics and risk factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article assesses the understanding and state of hybrid project management. A research problem was formulated, asking how large organizations working on software projects can gain value from agile project management, focusing on the hybrid approach as the most fitting candidate. A systematic literature review was conducted (SCOPUS, Web of Science), and findings were presented, proving that the current understanding of hybrid is limited and mostly viewed as a combination of agile and waterfall. Also, it has been shown that the hybrid approach is quite beneficial, and large organizations most likely don't have any other choice than turning to hybrid if they want to stay competitive. The original value resides around challenging the current definition of hybrid and proposing a new framework that will establish boundaries of a hybrid approach, which goes beyond the literature reviews done so far. Research limitations are related to coverage or research articles analyzed.

Aims: Steroid injections are used for subacromial pain syndrome and can be administered via the anterolateral or posterior approach to the subacromial space. It is not currently known which approach is superior in terms of improving clinical symptoms and function. This is the protocol for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to compare the clinical effectiveness of a steroid injection given via the anterolateral or the posterior approach to the subacromial space. Methods: The Subacromial Approach Injection Trial (SAInT) study is a single-centre, parallel, two-arm RCT. Participants will be allocated on a 1:1 basis to a subacromial steroid injection via either the anterolateral or the posterior approach to the subacromial space. Participants in both trial arms will then receive physiotherapy as standard of care for subacromial pain syndrome. The primary analysis will compare the change in Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS) at three months after injection. Secondary outcomes include the change in OSS at six and 12 months, as well as the Pain Numeric Rating Scale (0 = no pain, 10 = worst pain), Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (DASH), and 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) (RAND) at three months, six months, and one year after injection. Assessment of pain experienced during the injection will also be determined. A minimum of 86 patients will be recruited to obtain an 80% power to detect a minimally important difference of six points on the OSS change between the groups at three months after injection. Conclusion: The results of this trial will demonstrate if there is a difference in shoulder pain and function after a subacromial space steroid injection between the anterolateral versus posterior approach in patients with subacromial pain syndrome. This will help to guide treatment for patients with subacromial pain syndrome. Cite this article: Bone Jt Open 2024;5(9):729–735.

Background and Aims: Ultrasonography (USG)-guided arterial cannulation is a frequently performed procedure in the operating room and intensive care unit. Conventionally, longitudinal/in-plane and transverse/out-of-plane approaches are used for cannulation. Recently, a longitudinal oblique approach has been described with the advantage of wide visualization area. Hence, the present study was designed to compare the success of USG-guided radial artery cannulation in longitudinal oblique axis (LOA) and longitudinal axis (LA). Material and Methods: Seventy patients requiring radial artery cannulation were randomly allocated into two groups: group L (USG-guided radial artery cannulation in LA) and group O (USG-guided radial artery cannulation in LOA). Primary outcome was to assess cannulation success in the first attempt, while the secondary outcomes were to assess the number of attempts, failure rate, total cannulation time, and associated complications. Results: First-attempt success was higher in group O (80%) compared to group L (54.3%), with a P value of 0.022. In group L, 31.4% required two attempts and 5.7% had three attempts, while in group O, 14.3% had two attempts and 2.9% required three attempts. Group L failure rate was 8.6%, while it was 2.9% in group O. The mean total cannulation time (sec) for group L was 146.83 ± 89.37 and group O was 63.89 ± 26.277. No complication was observed with group O, while in group L, 9% had hematoma formation. Conclusion: The LOA approach for USG-guided radial artery cannulation has higher first-pass success rate, total success rate, and requires less cannulation time compared to the LA approach.

MAXILLARY sinus , *ENDOSCOPY , *MUCORMYCOSIS - Abstract
In the field of otolaryngology, the surgical management of maxillary sinus diseases has evolved significantly with the advent of endoscopic techniques. Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) has become the gold standard due to its minimally invasive nature, offering precise access to sinus cavities and reduced patient morbidity. However, traditional open approaches, such as the Caldwell-Luc operation, remain relevant in specific clinical scenarios, particularly in resource-limited settings or cases involving complex anatomy, extensive tumors, trauma, or infections like mucormycosis. This article reviews the indications and ongoing utility of open surgical methods, with particular focus on their role alongside endoscopic procedures. The paper also examines anatomical considerations and compares outcomes between endoscopic and open techniques, emphasizing the need for surgical proficiency in both approaches to ensure optimal patient care in various clinical environments. Case studies of inverted papilloma and mucormycosis illustrate the critical role open approaches still play in certain maxillary sinus pathologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Quantifying the biomass, or number of individuals, diversity, and distribution of marine species is a critical aspect of understanding and managing marine ecosystems. In recent years, there has been growing interest in using environmental DNA (eDNA) for marine ecosystem management and biodiversity assessment. However, the main challenge hindering eDNA applicability has been the inability to infer absolute species abundances from multispecies analysis (eDNA metabarcoding). In this study, we demonstrate a way forward by estimating the abundance of commercially important fish species in a Norwegian fjord using a joint Bayesian statistical model of traditional trawl-catch data and molecular data derived from eDNA. Using this model, we accurately predict out-of-sample trawl catches using eDNA alone. Moreover, our model provides empirical estimates for key processes linking marine eDNA concentration to the fish population abundance estimated from trawl observations, including trawl catchability, DNA shedding, degradation, dilution, transport, recovery rate, and isolation efficiency. These processes, including amplification efficiencies correcting for Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) bias, are species-specific and enable the translation of eDNA metabarcoding data into abundances. These findings have broad implications for the use of eDNA in marine ecosystem management and conservation efforts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Athletes use either an eight-step or a seven-step strategy to reach the first hurdle in the 110 m hurdles event. This study investigates the effect of step strategy on the hurdle clearance technique and spatio-temporal parameters of the four steps prior to hurdle clearance. Two-dimensional video data were collected in the sagittal plane from 12 male sprinters, grouped as seven-step (n = 6) or eight-step (n = 6) strategists. The take-off distance was 0.20 m further from the hurdle and the touchdown was 0.42 m closer to the hurdle for seven-step athletes. Additionally, seven-step athletes reduced the length of the final step before hurdle take-off by 0.14 m compared with the previous step, whereas the eight-step athletes extended their final step by 0.17 m. There was negligible difference between the mean horizontal velocities of the two groups throughout the hurdle clearance (0.02 m/s) or the approach time to the first hurdle from the block clearance (0.01 s). This presents an important first insight into the effect of the step strategy on the first hurdle kinematics. Our findings identify the take-off and touchdown distance parameters of the hurdle clearance technique, and approach step characteristics for a successful seven- or eight-step approach strategy to be employed. According to current forecasts, global heating is likely to exceed 2.8 °C by the end of this century. This makes substantial adaptation measures necessary to secure a broad basis for livelihood provision and the conservation of biodiversity. While the implementation of top-down and technocratic adaptation efforts predominates, related adaptation shortcomings of a socio-economic and ecological nature are becoming more and more apparent. Community-based adaptation (CBA), with its participatory, inclusive and needs-based bottom-up approach, offers a promising and powerful alternative. This article uses a semi-systematic literature review approach to screen the current literature and identify core issues of CBA. Linking communality, locality, multidimensionality, power imbalances, transformative potential, localisation, the triad of adaptation metrics and nature-based adaptation to corresponding potential actions for practical implementations provides a more holistic conceptualisation and broadens the horizons for further learning, research and improved applications. ARABIC language ,ARTIFICIAL intelligence ,JOB skills ,THEMATIC analysis ,ACQUISITION of data - Abstract
Having a strategic approach to issues is one of the necessities of macro-management of institutions and organizations. Understanding the problem is considered the first step in any type of policy-making. The first step in public policymaking is recognizing the issue and formulating it to put it on the policy-making agenda, which is considered a separate process in public policy-making. The purpose of conducting "Issue System Studies" as a strategic study is to determine the general lines of existing insight and experience about the main and key topics in a specific area. To identify, prioritize, and select priority issues of the Arabic language, comprehensive, holistic, and strategic research is needed. The present research has examined the "system of Arabic language issues with a future-oriented approach". This research is considered among applied research, as it seeks to create a basis for policy-making to solve Arabic language issues by analyzing the system of Arabic language issues. The method of information collection for enumerating Arabic language issues was based on a descriptive exploratory approach using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, and the method of information analysis is based on thematic analysis (as a research strategy). Data collection was carried out through documentary studies, interviews, questionnaires, and holding expert panels. The results show that the super-challenge of the Arabic language in Iran is the "vacuum of a dominant discourse in the field of Arabic language in Iran". This discourse vacuum indicates the "abandonment of the Arabic language in Iran"; three key challenges as the highest priority issues include the introduction of artificial intelligence to Arabic language teaching, the lack of connection between Arabic language education and job market-required skills, and the duality of Arabic language teaching with the aim of understanding religious texts or general purposes. The futureoriented approach to the issues facing the Arabic language and attention to new changes in the technology sphere and its impact on the emergence of new and emerging challenges, including the introduction of artificial intelligence to Arabic language teaching, are among the innovations of this article and distinguish it from previous research. Classic motivational conflicts theory (Lewin, 1931) distinguishes between approach–approach, and avoidance–avoidance conflicts. Previous research has focused solely on testing the theory's prediction that avoidance–avoidance conflicts are more difficult to resolve than approach–approach ones, using outcome measures (decision time and self-reports). The theory, however, specifies a force-fields mechanism to account for this difference in conflict resolution difficulty, whereby avoidance–avoidance conflicts (compared to approach–approach ones) elicit more (a) oscillations and (b) return to the middle point between options. However, this force-fields mechanism has never been empirically tested, arguably due to a lack of the tools to do so. In five studies (N = 534 U.K. residents), we use mouse-tracking measures to provide insight into the force-fields mechanism. We show that the force-fields' mechanistic properties—oscillations and returns to the middle point—distinguish the two types of conflict and uniquely account for conflict resolution difficulty beyond standard conflict-strength measures. Moreover, we test a novel, theory-driven prediction and robustly show a differential pattern of increased oscillations as a function of the decision-maker's proximity to the decision options. Finally, we test a boundary condition moderating the influence of conflict type on both the force-fields' mechanistic properties and conflict resolution difficulty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INFECTIOUS arthritis , *HIP joint dislocation , *CHILD patients , *OLDER patients , *FEMORAL artery - Abstract
Purpose: Septic arthritis of the hip in children and adolescents is a common condition requiring timely diagnosis and intervention. Surgical irrigation and debridement is typically performed through the anterior approach because of concerns about injury to the medial femoral circumflex artery leading to avascular necrosis. While there are multiple studies investigating the sequelae of anterior and medial approaches for reduction of developmental dislocation of the hip, none have compared these approaches for the pediatric septic hip. We hypothesize that there will be no significant difference in the rate of avascular necrosis when comparing the medial and anterior approaches to the septic hip in pediatric patients. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of pediatric septic hips treated with irrigation and debridement through either a medial or anterior approach at a single institution over an 18-year period of time. The primary outcome measure was the development of avascular necrosis. Results: Thirteen of 164 patients (7.9%) developed avascular necrosis. Avascular necrosis was noted in 9 of 101 patients who had anterior approach and 4 of 63 patients who underwent medial approach (p = 0.76). The average age for patients developing avascular necrosis was 10.0 years old versus 6.8 years old in patients who did not develop avascular necrosis (p = 0.01). The average follow-up was 3.3 years in patients with avascular necrosis versus 1.5 years for patients who did not develop avascular necrosis (p = 0.01). Conclusion: Medial approach to the pediatric septic hip does not increase the rate of avascular necrosis compared to the anterior approach.

Motivation to work for potential rewards is critically dependent on dopamine (DA) in the nucleus accumbens (NAc). DA release from NAc axons can be controlled by at least two distinct mechanisms: (1) action potentials propagating from DA cell bodies in the ventral tegmental area (VTA), and (2) activation of β2* nicotinic receptors by local cholinergic interneurons (CINs). How CIN activity contributes to NAc DA dynamics in behaving animals is not well understood. We monitored DA release in the NAc Core of awake, unrestrained rats using the DA sensor RdLight1, while simultaneously monitoring or manipulating CIN activity at the same location. CIN stimulation rapidly evoked DA release, and in contrast to slice preparations, this DA release showed no indication of short-term depression or receptor desensitization. The sound of unexpected food delivery evoked a brief joint increase in CIN population activity and DA release, with a second joint increase as rats approached the food. In an operant task, we observed fast ramps in CIN activity during approach behaviors, either to start the trial or to collect rewards. These CIN ramps co-occurred with DA release ramps, without corresponding changes in the firing of lateral VTA DA neurons. Finally, we examined the effects of blocking CIN influence over DA release through local NAc infusion of DHβE, a selective antagonist of β2* nicotinic receptors. DHβE dose-dependently interfered with motivated approach decisions, mimicking the effects of a DA antagonist. Our results support a key influence of CINs over motivated behavior via the local regulation of DA release.

PURPOSE: The approach to the treatment of enchondromas of the hand is varied, and there is no clear consensus on graft source, fixation, or need for intraoperative adjuvant therapy. We reviewed a cohort of patients who underwent curettage and bone grafting with cancellous allograft chips without internal fixation or adjuvant therapy and reported on postoperative range of motion (ROM) and recurrence rates. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of patients who underwent surgical treatment for hand enchondroma over a 23-year period. We collected information on demographics and presenting enchondroma characteristics, including Takigawa classification and presence of pathologic fracture or associated syndromes. Patients were treated with open biopsy with curettage and grafting with cancellous allograft chips. Postoperative ROM, complications, and recurrences were recorded. RESULTS: Our series included 111 enchondromas in 104 patients. Seventeen of 104 patients (16%) had a diagnosis of Ollier disease. Average length of follow-up was 3.1 years. Eighty-one percent of patients achieved full ROM. Treatment of patients who presented with preoperative pathologic fracture resulted in a greater frequency of reduced postoperative ROM at 28% (9/32) compared to 15% (11/72) of those patients who did not present with preoperative pathologic fracture. Local recurrence developed in 5 of 50 (10%) patients with a minimum of 2 years of follow-up. Local recurrence occurred at higher-than-average rates in patients with giant form Takigawa classification (43%, 3/7) and Ollier disease (23%, 3/13). CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of enchondromas with biopsy, curettage, and allograft results in full ROM in 81% of patients. Patients with preoperative pathologic fracture should be advised of a greater risk of postoperative extension deficit. Recurrence remains rare and is associated with syndromic presentation and giant form lesions. TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic IV.

Self-knowledge and its functionality has always been the focus of the scholars of humanities, especially in the field of philosophy. The objective of this paper is to study Imam Khomeini's approach to the subject of self-knowledge and its functions. Grounded theory has been applied in this qualitative study. The statistical population included all sources such as books, lectures, texts and letters of Imam Khomeini. The statistical sample included a total of 62 texts collected through purposeful method from different sources produced by Imam Khomeini related to self-knowledge. From source 48 onwards, the content within the text was repetitive and the data reached theoretical saturation. The data were analyzed through textual analysis within the framework of a conceptual model including the Causal conditions (causes and opportunities); Pivotal factors; Strategies; Underlying factors; Interference factors, facilitators (backers) and inhibitors (barriers), and ultimately consequences (results of self-knowledge). The findings show that a lifestyle consistent with true knowledge of the message of revelation and the program of primordial nature, turn of attention from acquired knowledge to intuitive knowledge and self-purification lead to self-knowledge. As a result of establishing a connection between knowledge of the self and the knowledge of the Lord, the potential talents inherent in human primordial nature are actualized. Hence, the rational soul will be attained and all the powers of the soul, including imagination, anger and lust, will surrender to the sane reason and the prophets’ messages and will turn to merciful armies, and eventually, the position of vicegerency of Allah and eternal happiness (felicity) will be achieved.

The study investigates the connectedness between commodities and ESG stocks of India using the extended joint connectedness approach. The study found a time-varying relationship between commodities and ESG stocks. It also discovered that there is a low spillover between the two. However, the total connectedness increased during the Russia-Ukraine war but remained low. The study found that crude oil and natural gas act as net transmitters, while ESG stocks and gold act as net receivers. ESG stocks are negatively connected with gold and have a low degree of positive correlation with crude oil and natural gas. Therefore, portfolio diversification opportunities exist between commodities and ESG stocks. The study exhibits that investors may derive significant benefits by adjusting their portfolios based on the optimum weights provided by the portfolio construction technique. The study provides valuable insights for portfolio managers, investors, and policymakers.

Trigonal meningiomas are rare intraventricular tumours that present a surgical challenge. There is no consensus on the optimal surgical approach to these lesions, though the transtemporal and transparietal approaches are most frequently employed. We aimed to examine the approach-related morbidity and surgical nuances in treating trigonal meningiomas. This retrospective review assimilated data from 64 trigonal meningiomas operated over 15 years. Details of clinicoradiological presentation, surgical approach and intraoperative impression, pathology and incidence of various postoperative deficits were recorded. In our study, Trigonal meningiomas most frequently presented with headache and visual deterioration. The median volume of tumours was 63.6cc. Thirty-one meningiomas each (48.4%) were WHO Grade 1 and WHO Grade 2, while 2 were WHO Grade 3. The most frequent approach employed was transtemporal (38 patients, 59.4%), followed by transparietal (22 patients, 34.4%). After surgery features of raised ICP and altered mental status resolved in all patients, while contralateral limb weakness resolved in 80%, aphasia in 60%, seizures in 70%, and vision loss in 46.2%. Eighteen patients (28.13%) developed transient postoperative neurological deficits, with one patient (1.5%) developing permanent morbidity. Surgery for IVMs results in rapid improvement of neurological status, though visual outcomes are poorer in patients with low vision prior to surgery, longer duration of complaints and optic atrophy. The new postoperative deficits in some patients tend to improve on follow up. Transtemporal and transparietal approaches may be employed, based on multiple factors like tumour extension, loculation of temporal horn, size of lesion with no significant difference in their safety profile. Infodemic is closely related to all healthcare professionals. Nurses take the lead in health professions that spend a long time with the society and try to present accurate information due to their roles. Infodemic is the massive spread of false or unreliable information in times of crisis. This study aims to develop a valid and reliable tool that identifies individuals' approaches to infodemic. This study was methodological. The sample consisted of 504 people (N = 504). Data were collected using the Information Form and the Infodemic Scale. The sample was divided into two for the explanatory factor analysis (EFA) and the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The scale was developed using the scale development process in health and social research, which consists of three steps. The EFA revealed 14 items under two factors, which are awareness and literacy. Item factor loadings were found to range between 0.334 and 0.907. The CFA confirmed the two-factor scale structure. The total Cronbach's alpha of the scale was 0.87, and the composite reliability value was 0.89. The intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) value was found to be 0.857. According to psychometric evaluations, the Infodemic Scale is a valid and reliable instrument that can make consistent measurements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The purpose of this article is to introduce the concept of the State's continuous formation as a viable and relevant approach in contemporary studies of this phenomenon. It begins with a brief overview of recent research on the State within Latin American social sciences, categorizing them by different approaches and highlighting their strengths and limitations. It then delves into the theoretical foundations of this approach, explaining its usefulness in analyzing the State's local configurations. Finally, methodological insights are provided to identify these new forms of statehood, followed by some general conclusions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Exposure treatment involves systematic confrontation with fear-inducing stimuli, effectively reducing fear and anxiety. However, a significant number of clients still experience a return of fear (ROF) after treatment. This study investigates whether incorporating an approach component during fear extinction, a laboratory exposure analog, could mitigate this return of fear. Furthermore, we explored the underlying mechanisms by drawing on predictions from the inhibitory learning theory and the reflective-impulsive model of behavior. In a within-subjects design, we compared instructed active approach of a stimulus during extinction to more passive non-avoidance. Contrary to expectations, our findings revealed that performing approach behavior during extinction did not reduce ROF when compared to non-avoidance. Furthermore, valence and action tendencies, which were potential mechanisms based on the reflective-impulsive model of behavior, remained unaltered. Still, a noteworthy discovery emerged in the form of increased threat expectancies for the approached stimulus during extinction, suggesting a heightened level of expectancy violation, as predicted on the basis of the inhibitory learning theory. These findings offer valuable insights into the intricate relationship between approach behavior, ROF, and underlying mechanisms, highlighting the need for further research to assess the potential benefits of emphasizing approach in exposure treatment. Background: Giant cell tumors (GCTs) are benign bone tumors that can be locally aggressive, leading to joint destruction or pathologic fractures. In rare cases, they can progress to lung metastasis and death. The management modalities of GCTs include medical treatment, curettage, cryotherapy, and resection and reconstruction, including arthroplasty. Objective: The current case report aimed to discuss alternative treatment options to the reported case of GCT. Case report: The reported case showed a healthy 25-years-old man with left hip joint pain progressing over six months. The pain was resistant to lifestyle modifications and medications. Investigations resulted in the diagnosis of a GCT in the left femur head. The management included a preoperative course of denosumab, surgical dislocation of the left hip, lesion curettage, irrigation, and bone graft and cementation. Our plan was a good alternative because it is a low-cost surgery that resulted in regaining the same previous level of activities without limitations. The plan showed excellent outcomes, but more cases and long-term follow-up are needed in further studies. The aim of the case report was to discuss alternative treatment options for the reported case of GCT. Conclusion: A criterion standard treatment option for GCT in the femur is lacking. In the current case, a GCT of the femoral head was treated with an initial course of denosumab for six months, followed by curettage, bone grafting and cementing packing. The outcome showed that this alternative modality yielded functionally and radiologically acceptable results. In addition, the treatment plan was simple and cost-effective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
