The purpose of this paper is to enrich the analytical record of the process of formation of the political system of the Argentine “Confederation” in the 1850s, from the specificities of San Juan province. We considered variations of San Juan political and economic integration in the national and “transcordillerano” stage. We reveal that the attempts of San Juan authorities to (re)articulated in a long-standing activity as overland trade with Chile, though not always successful, were important both to define provincial political tensions and the gravitation of the province in the political and institutional frame of the “Confederation”. So, we analyzed provincial, regional and international aspects of this process, taking into account the multiplicity of actors, resources, ideas and practices that were involved. The article focuses on the history of Polish immigrants in Argentina. The author emphasizes that more Polish people immigrated to Argentina than any other Latin American nation, other than Brazil. The author discusses the role of political events in the migration of Polish political exiles to Argentina, including Poland's failed January Insurrection of 1863 to 1864 and the failed Polish November Uprising of 1830 to 1831. Can states that mistrust each other as much as the Peoples' Republic of China (PRC) and Taiwan reach unification agreements? Unification agreements are most feasible when one of two conditions holds: the unification bargain does not independently erode the bargaining power of the weaker state, or the more powerful state can commit credibly not to use its increased bargaining power to restructure the agreement ex post. Our argument accounts for two historical cases - the nineteenth century Argentine and German unifications - and helps to explain why the PRC has found it difficult to make progress on achieving a peaceful bargain with Taiwan. We describe several possible future scenarios for cross-Strait relations and show that democratization in the PRC is not a necessary prerequisite for a unification agreement between the mainland and Taiwan. This article considers the administration of justice in the Tucumán province of Argentina between 1820 and 1840. It examines the region's transition from a colonial territory to an independent and autonomous province within the boundaries of Argentina, as well as the disintegration of power in the Río de la Plata province in the early 19th century. The author analyzes historical records from the Archivo Histórico de Tucumán (the Tucuman Historical Archives), including those that refer to formal and informal justice, ordinary jurisdiction, and the actions of territorial judges.

When military conflict and economic disruption in the river Plate region led to a British naval occupation of the river Paraná in 1845-46, traders from many nations followed the warships upstream hoping to conduct business in the Argentine interior and with Paraguay. Since the 1920s historians have uniformly disparaged this Paraná expedition as a commercial failure, insisting that the foreign intruders found neither trade nor welcome among the local populations. In Argentine historiography, the episode is consistently presented as a successful assertion of national identity in the face of European imperial assault. Research here, however, demonstrates not only the expedition's economic success but, again contrary to established opinion, its military and strategic achievements, before the British government abandoned its policy of armed intervention. The article presents historical accounts of African slaves in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina during the federal period dating from approximately 1829 to 1852. In particular, the study focuses on the evolution of manumission, the voluntary act of freeing slaves, as presented in several documents from the era. The evolution of slave emancipation is then compared with later laws, which regulated slavery in Argentina. The article continues with a historical overview of provincial society and the various laws and legislature regarding the practice of owning and freeing slaves.
