Orhan Pamuk, ilk Nobel ödüllü Türk unvanını aldıktan iki yıl sonra, 2008 yılında Masumiyet Müzesi’ni yayımlar. İçinde sergilenecek nesneleri toplayarak uzun yıllardır açma hayali kurduğu “Masumiyet Müzesi” adındaki şehir müzesini ise romanın yayımlanmasından dört yıl sonra açar. Aynı yıl, müzede sergilenen nesneleri, bu nesnelerin yaşamıyla ve yaşadığı şehir İstanbul ile ilişkisini anlatan Şeylerin Masumiyeti (2012) adlı müze kataloğunu yayımlar. Bunları takiben, bu şehir müzesini konu alan Hatıraların Masumiyeti (2015) adlı belgesel, Orhan Pamuk ve İngiliz yönetmen Grant Gee iş birliğiyle çekilir. Son olarak, belgeselin senaryosunu, yazar ile yönetmen arasındaki röportajı ve bu belgeselden seçilmiş kareleri içerenHatıraların Masumiyeti adlı retrospektif bir kitap 2016 yılında yayımlanır. Bu çalışmada Masumiyet Metinleri olarak adlandırılması tercih edilen Orhan Pamuk’un tüm bu yazılı ve görsel metinleri, sarmal metaforu ile temsil edilen bir karşılıklı etkileşimin ve metinlerarasılığın yolunu açmaktadır. Bu makale, Orhan Pamuk’un tüm bu anlatılarının içinden “çözülerek giden bir yolu” temsil eden sarmal metaforundan yola çıkarak, Pamuk’un postmodernist çağda temsil edilemeyeni, serbest oyunu, estetik biçimi ve metinleri algılayan kişinin bakışını ortaya koyan bu metinlerinde yücenin dinamiklerini ürettiğini öne sürmektedir. Bu anlamda bu çalışma, okura, müze gezginine ve izleyiciye sunulan ve yeniden temsil edilen bir dizi nesneetrafında dönen yücenin postmodern dinamiklerinin Orhan Pamuk’un kurgusunda (roman), kurgulaştırılmış kurgu-dışı anlatılarında (müze kataloğu ve film üzerinekitap) ve görsel sanat anlatılarındaki (müze ve belgesel film) izini sürmeyi amaçlamaktadır., Orhan Pamuk published The Museum of Innocence in 2008, two years after getting his title of the first Turkish Nobel laureate. He opened the city museum named“Museum of Innocence” four years after the publication of this novel, which he had dreamed of collecting the objects to be exhibited for many years. In thesame year, he published a catalogue titled The Innocence of Objects (2012) for this museum in which Pamuk writes about the objects, their relations to his lifeand his city İstanbul. The documentary film on this city museum, Innocence of Memories (2015), is shot in a collaboration between Pamuk and British directorGrant Gee. Finally, a retrospective book titled The Innocence of Memories–which includes the screenplay, the conversation between the author and the director, and selected frames of this film–was published in 2016. All these written and visual texts by Pamuk, which are preferred to be named The Texts of Innocence in this study, open the way for an interplay and intertextuality re-represented by the spiral metaphor. This paper suggests, based on this metaphor that signifies an ‘unwinding path’ going through all these narratives, Orhan Pamuk produces the dynamics of the sublime that is related to presenting the unpresentable, free play, aesthetic formation, and the gaze of the perceiver in the postmodernist era. In this sense, this study aims to trace the postmodern dynamics of the sublime, turning around a set of objects presented and (re)presented to the reader, the museum-goer, and the audience within the fiction, the fictionalized non-fiction, and visual art narratives by Orhan Pamuk.

Adalet Ağaoğlu’s trilogy Dar Zamanlar [Narrow Times] addresses memory, history, and identity by depicting the development of its protagonist, Aysel, who begins her narrative as a little girl raised with Republican ideals and becomes an academician in the turbulent times of post-republican Turkish history. Evaluating the memory and identity formation of the individual and society in the context of the historical events of post-republic Turkey, this trilogy presents an essential critique of social and individual amnesia. The trilogy depicts how the individual and social memory should be revisited to construct the history and identity of individuals in particular as well as the society as a whole. At this point, Ağaoğlu’s trilogy embodies the debates on the ethics of memory, a topic on which significant studies have been conducted since the twentieth century. The first novel of the trilogy, Ölmeye Yatmak [Lying Down to Die], addresses the ethics of remembering against individual and social amnesia. The second novel, Bir Düğün Gecesi [A Wedding Night], reveals how individuals who prefer to forget past events would cause harm to themselves as well as to their society. Finally, the last novel of the trilogy, Hayır… [No…], defines forgetting as an act of insanity and proposes the birth of a New Human who could eliminate oblivion by revisiting history. In this respect, this study focuses on the moral side of forgetting and remembering in Ağaoğlu’s Dar Zamanlar trilogy and aims to examine individual and social memory in terms of its relation to national history and identity by referring to the theories of the ethics of memory., Adalet Ağaoğlu’nun Dar Zamanlar adlı üçlemesi hafıza, tarih ve kimlik konularını, anlatısına Cumhuriyet idealleriyle büyümüş küçük bir kız olarak başlayan ve Türk tarihinin Cumhuriyet sonrası çalkantılı zamanlarında bir akademisyen olan başkahraman Aysel'in gelişimi üzerinden işlemektedir. Cumhuriyet sonrası Türkiye’sinin tarihsel olayları bağlamında, bireyin ve toplumun hafıza ve kimlik oluşumunu hem bireysel hem toplumsal tarihi hatırlama ödevi üzerinden değerlendiren bu üçleme, toplumsal ve bireysel amneziye karşı önemli bir eleştiri sunmaktadır. Ağaoğlu’nun bu üçlemesi, özelde bireyin genelde ise toplumun tarihini ve kimliğini inşa etmek için bireysel ve toplumsal hafızanın nasıl yeniden gözden geçirilmesi gerektiğini tasvir eder. Bu noktada Ağaoğlu’nun Dar Zamanlar üçlemesi, yirminci yüzyıldan bu yana üzerine önemli çalışmalar yapılan hafıza etiği tartışmalarını bünyesinde barındırmaktadır. Üçlemenin ilk romanı Ölmeye Yatmak, bireysel ve toplumsal unutmaya karşı hatırlama etiğini sunarken ikinci roman Bir Düğün Gecesi geçmişteki olayları unutmayı tercih eden bireylerin sadece kendilerine değil, kendi toplumlarına da zarar vereceklerini ortaya koymaktadır. Üçlemenin son romanı Hayır… ise, unutmayı delilik olarak tanımlar ve tarihi yeniden gözden geçirerek unutmaya karşı durabilecek Yeni İnsanın doğuşunu önerir. Bu bağlamda, bu çalışma Ağaoğlu'nun Dar Zamanlar üçlemesinde unutma ve hatırlamanın ahlaki yönüne odaklanmakta ve hafıza etiği teorilerine atıfta bulunarak bireysel ve toplumsal hafızayı milli tarih ve kimlik ilişkisi içinde incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır.

Tarih boyunca insanlık, insanların farklı şekillerde karşılık verdiği, baş etmek için mücadele ettiği ve nihayetinde onları alt ettiği birçok pandemiden mustarip olmuştur. Tarihin insanlığı şahit kıldığı gibi, şu ana kadar insanlığın atlatamadığı tek bir pandemi yoktur. Bununla birlikte bir pandemide hayatta kalmak, sadece fiziksel, sosyal ve finansal değil, en önemlisi ahlâki olan birçok yetenek gerektirir. Bu anlamda, pandemi anlatıları zor zamanlardan geçerken ahlâki ve ahlâk dışı tutumların nasıl benimsendiğini kavramak için ilham vericidir. Bunun ışığında, Daniel Defoe'nun 1722'de yayımlanan A Journal of the Plague Year [Veba Yılı Günlüğü] adlı eseri, bu romanı gerçekçi bir tarihsel anlatı kategorisine dahil eden rasyonalist bir bakış açısıyla 1665 Londra Büyük Veba salgınına ışık tutar. Bununla birlikte, Defoe'nun 1665 veba salgınını belgelemesi, aynı zamanda insanların pandemi zamanlarında nasıl davrandıklarını ve pandemiye ahlâki veya ahlâk dışı olarak nasıl tepki verdiklerini tasvir eden ve bunu açığa çıkaran ahlâki bir anlatıdır. Bu çalışma, günümüz Covid-19 pandemisine verilen mevcut ahlâki (olmayan) tepkilere ışık tutmak için, yüzyıllarca öteden gelen bir çağrı olarak kabul edilebilecek Defoe’nun bu anlatısında ahlâk felsefesinin yerini görünür kılma çabasıdır., Throughout the history, humanity has suffered many pandemics which people have responded to in various ways, struggled to cope with, and ultimately survived. As the history has made humanity witness, there is not even one pandemic until now which humanity has not come through. However, to survive a pandemic requires multiple capabilities, not only physical, social, and financial, but most importantly a moral capability. In this sense, the narratives of pandemic are stimulating to discern how moral and immoral attitudes are adopted while going through hard times. In the light of it, Daniel Defoe’s A Journal of the Plague Year published in 1722 sheds light on the Great Plague of London in 1665 by using a rationalist point of view which places the novel among realist historical narratives. However, Defoe’s documentation of the 1665 plague is also a narrative of morality that depicts and gives insight into how people behave in the times of a pandemic and respond them morally or immorally. Considering Defoe’s range of people–the wealthiest people running away from the city at once, the governors who quarantine houses leaving people to death, the ignorant infectious people spreading the plague, the fraud ecclesiastics, physicians, and magicians who exploit people; and the ones who prefer to survive by taking care of each other–A Journal signs how the people who are suffering and the others who take advantage of their suffering give moral or immoral responses to a fatal pandemic. To provide an insight into the current (im)moral responses to today’s Covid-19 pandemic, this study is an effort to make the place of moral philosophy visible in the narrative of Defoe which could be accepted as a call from over the centuries.

The film adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel Gone Baby Gone (Ben Affleck, 2007) is based on a moral questioning about right choice and right act although, on the surface, it appears as a detective film in which the mystery is unexpectedly uncovered by discovering the “good criminal”. The obligation to make a moral choice in case of a moral dilemma results in the conflicted moral attitudes of the characters, which invites the spectator to question the validity of each. In the film, the basic moral choice that should be made by the characters is whether to take an abducted little girl back to her careless, and also drug user mother, or to let her stay with her abductor, but a respectful police captain who grants a promising future for her. The matter becomes much more problematic when the characters adopt contradictory moral attitudes varying from moral absolutism to moral subjectivism, two opposite poles, and also including moral objectivism, which could be accepted as a moderate breeze between them. In this sense, this study examines how moral dilemmas, exercising their influence over the spectator as well, reveal various moral attitudes that have been essentially discussed in the history of philosophy on the basis of the choices made by the characters. The study, analyzing Gone Baby Gone in terms of moral dilemma, choice and act, aims to trace what is gone –namely what is left behind by the choice, or the moral would-be possibilities as they were not chosen– within the context of moral philosophy.

William Golding’s fifth novel, The Spire, set in the fourteenth century, tells the story of Dean Jocelin, who desires to erect a spire on the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary. As Dean Jocelin claims that his will is the God’s will that has been inspired to him by vision, he adheres to his will acquiescingly. However, all of the people around him, especially the master builder Roger Mason who doubts the endurance of a 400-foot-high spire, are against the idea of constructing it. The problematic proposition in the novel is whether Dean Jocelin is right or wrong trying to actualize his will that is going to result in material and spiritual losses. Is Dean Jocelin an especially faithful servant of God? Is he a latent or overt solipsist, sacrificing many lives for his will? Or is he just an ordinary person and as such, in possession of the human nature that is considered inherently evil by William Golding? This study will try to answer these questions by adopting the eighteenth-century philosopher Immanuel Kant’s ethics, which use good will, reason, and duty as measures of moral action, and which claims that all of these together bring freedom for human beings.

Iris Murdoch, the English philosopher and writer, and Jacques Lacan, the Frenchphilosopher and psychoanalyst, tried to depict the human relations in a questioning way in thetwentieth century. In this respect, their ideas frequently meet on the fields such as philosophy andpsychoanalysis. This paper will handle Murdoch’s well-known novel The Sea The Sea in terms of itsprotagonist’s, Charles Arrowby’s unconscious motivations in connection with his obsessive love forHartley. When Charles’s sexual and emotional relationships, such as his relationship with Clementwho is old enough to be his mother, his obsession for his first love who is married to another man,his will to steal women from their husbands, and his references to his strict mother are considered,he seems more as a representative of Lacanian subject of the unconscious.In this sense, the references that direct the readers to Charles’s unconscious motivationsdemonstrate in particular his own but in general everybody’s paradoxical desire to attain theabsolute jouissance which is lost in the symbolic order in Lacanian terminology. Charles’s questfor jouissance is presented by his sexual relationships, namely Lacanian object petit a’s. However,the impossibility to attain jouissance is also reflected by those of love failures. As Lacan theorizes,all sexual relationships are illusions and fantasies that cannot ensure jouissance for human being,here for Charles. However, Lacan mentions that “courtly love” lacking sexuality and providinga continuous pleasure (nearly jouissance) by keeping the subject’s desire alive is a significantalternative to sexual relationship. In this respect, this study will examine The Sea The Sea in relationto Lacanian “There is no such thing as a sexual relationship” principle in terms of Charles’sunconscious motivations and his obsessive courtly love fantasy that is “the possibility of love in theform of a pure deep affectionate mutual respect” with Charles’s own words.Keywords: The Sea The Sea, Jacques Lacan, jouissance, courtly love, sexual relationship.‘Cinsel İlişki Yoktur’: Iris Murdoch’un The Sea The Sea RomanındaLacancı İlkelerÖzet: İngiliz felsefeci yazar Iris Murdoch ve Fransız felsefeci psikanalist Jacques Lacan insanilişkilerini yirminci yüzyılda sorgulayıcı bir biçimde betimlemeye çalışmışlardır. Bu bağlamda,fikirleri felsefe ve psikanaliz gibi alanlarda sıklıkla kesişir. Bu çalışma, Murdoch’un The Sea TheSea adlı ünlü romanını, ana karakteri Charles Arrowby’nin bilinçdışı güdülenmelerinin Hartley’eolan saplantılı aşkı ile ilişkisi bağlamında ele alacaktır. Lacan’ın kuramlaştırdığıgibi tüm cinsel ilişkiler insan için, bu çalışmada Charles için, jouissance sağlayamayacak yanılsamave fantazilerdir. Buna rağmen Lacan, cinsel ilişki içermeyen ve öznenin arzusunu canlı tutarakdaimi bir arzu (nerdeyse jouissance) sağlayan “saray aşkı”nın cinsel ilişkiye karşı önemli biralternatif olduğunu belirtir. Philosophy and creative writing are the sources that intersect and live on each other in terms of comprehending and giving meaning to the human life. Those two sources illuminate the human behaviours operating in multidimensional way by meeting on the same ground with psychoanalysis whose aim is to examine human psyche. At this point, Hilmi Yavuz, one of the prominent philosophers and poets/writers of our time, presents the psychic dimension of creative writing to the reader by detecting the relationship between aesthetics and psychoanalysis implicitly in his work Üç Anlatı. When this dimension is handled in terms of the theories of Jacques Lacan, who is accepted as “the re - founder of psychoanalysis” in the twentieth century, it would be right to observe the emphases of Yavuz and Lacan, who meet on the common - ground of philosophy, on the issues such as language, discourse, truth, conscious and unconscious operations, and psychoanalytic dimension of writing and reading processes. To study the psychoanalytic dimension of the birth of a creative writer and the process of creating a work of art in terms of the parallel between Lacan’s three orders - defined as the imaginary, the symbolic and the real and Yavuz’s three narrations will illuminate two intellectuals’ opinions on aesthetics. By this way, the pains and the stages that the Lacanian subject experiences in its formation process are reflected on the formation process of the writer subject in Üç Anlatı. The adventures of the writer subject experiencing the drama of Lacanian mirror stage, wandering among the traps of language in the symbolic order and going after the Lacanian real in the real order is a kind of projection of the writer’s journey from being lost to rebirth in Üç Anlatı. This study aims to examine the reflections of the Lacanian talking and listening subject on writing and reading subject of Üç Anlatı. Thus, Üç Anlatı by Hilmi Yavuz will be handled as the reader’s witnessing to the process of the creative writer’s going after the Lacanian object petit a to fill her/his life and writing, but in fact trying to leave something behind that is Lacanian the Thing transcending death, Felsefe ve yaratıcı yazarlık şüphesiz insan yaşamını anlama ve anlamlandırma bağlamında sıklıkla birbirleriyle kesişen ve birbirlerinden beslenen kaynaklardır. Bu iki kaynak, amacı insan zihninin işleyişini çözümlemek olan psikanaliz ile de ortak bir paydada buluşarak çok boyutlu işleyen insan edimlerine ışık tutar. Bu noktada, günümüzün önde gelen felsefeci şair/yazarlarından Hilmi Yavuz, Üç Anlatı adlı eserinde sanat felsefesinin psikanaliz ile bağlantılarını örtük bir şekilde işleyerek, yazın ve yaratıcı yazarlık sürecinin zihinsel boyutunu okura sunmaktadır. Bu boyut, yirminci yüzyılda “psikanalizin yeniden kurucusu” olarak kabul edilen Jacques Lacan’ın teorileri bağlamında incelendiğinde, felsefe paydasında buluşan Yavuz ve Lacan’ın dil, söylem, hakikat, bilinç ve bilinç dışı işleyiş, yazma ve okuma sürecinin psikanalitik yönü gibi vurgularını Üç Anlatı’da irdelemek doğru olacaktır. Yaratıcı yazarın doğuşu ve sanat eserinin yaratım sürecinin psikanalitik boyutunu, Lacan’ın imgesel, sembolik ve gerçek olarak tanımladığı üç düzeni ile Yavuz’un üç anlatısı arasındaki paralellik ile okumak, bu iki düşünürün sanat felsefesi üzerine görüşlerini aydınlatacaktır. Böylece, Lacancı bilinç dışı öznenin oluşumunda çektiği sancılar ve geçirdiği evreler, Üç Anlatı’da yazar özne kimliğinin oluşumunda yansımasını bulur. Lacancı ayna evresinin dramasını deneyimleyen, sembolik düzende dilin tuzaklarında gezinen ve gerçek düzende Lacancı gerçek’in peşinden giden yazar öznenin serüveni, Üç Anlatı’da kayboluştan yeniden doğuşa adım atan yazarın yolculuğunun bir izdüşümüdür. Bu çalışma, Lacancı öğretide konuşan ve dinleyen bilinç dışı öznenin, Üç Anlatı’da yazan ve okuyan öznedeki yansımasını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Böylece Hilmi Yavuz’un Üç Anlatı’sı, yaşamını ve yazınını doldurmak için Lacancı küçük a nesnesinin peşinden giden yaratıcı yazarın aslında arkasında ölümü aşan bir Lacancı Şey bırakma sürecine okurun tanıklığı olarak ele alınacaktır.

This study explicates the fact of double alienation reflected in Monica Ali's novel Brick Lane which depicts the lives of Bangladeshi immigrant families in England having a multi-cultural structure. The fact of alienation which has social, psychological and philosophical dimensions is revealed bilaterally in typical immigrant-woman case by the character of Nazneen, the protagonist. Nazneen, as both a Bangladeshi immigrant and a woman coming from a patriarchal society, inevitably experiences social and psychological alienation in certain periods of her life. In the study, Nazneen's experience will be analyzed by referring to the text with its reasons and results in the context of alienation as an immigrant and as a woman., Bu çaly?ma, çokkültürlü bir yapyya sahip olan Yngiltere'deki Banglade?li göçmen aileleri anlatan Monica Ali'nin Brick Lane adly romanynda yansytylan çifte yabancyla?ma olgusunu açyklamaktadyr. Sosyal, psikolojik ve felsefi boyutlary olan yabancyla?ma olgusu tipik göçmen-kadyn çerçevesi içerisinde romanda ba?kahraman Nazneen karakteriyle çift yönlü olarak verilmektedir. Nazneen hem Banglade?li bir göçmen hem de patriarkal bir toplumdan gelen bir kadyn olarak sosyal ve psikolojik yabancyla?mayy hayatynyn belirli evrelerinde kaçynylmaz olarak ya?ar. Çaly?mada Nazneen'in bu deneyimi, sebepleri ve sonuçlaryyla göçmen olarak ya?ady?y yabancyla?ma ve kadyn olarak ya?ady?y yabancyla?ma ba?lamynda metine göndermeler yapylarak incelenecektir.

Bir edebi eserin psikanalitik açıdan incelenmesinde, esas olarak bu eserin bilinçdışının açığa çıkarılması önemlidir. Sylvia Plath’in ünlü romanı The Bell Jar’ın psikanalitik bir okuması ile romandaki temel fantezinin intihar olduğu söylenebilir. Bu çalışmada, ana karakter Esther’in zihnindeki intihar düşüncesinin psikanalitik kökeninin, Freudcu “ölüm itkisi”yle ve Lacancı anneyle birlik halinde bulunulan arkaik bütünlüğe geri dönme isteği teorisiyle ilintili olduğu savunulmaktadır. Bu açıdan, ana karakterin ifadeleri ve biyografik bilgilerine dayanarak, intiharın bir ölüm değil acı çeken psike için bir çözüm, arzulanan bir olgu, olarak görüldüğü ve bu çözümün anne rahmine geri dönüş yolunda yattığı ortaya konulmaktadır.

Yirminci yüzyıl İngiliz edebiyatının önde gelen yazarlarından ve filozoflarından biri olan Iris Murdoch'un insanı anlama ve anlamlandırma çabasında psişik yaşamdaki zihinsel işleyişlere verdiği önem, onu aynı amaçla hareket eden psikanaliz alanına sıklıkla yaklaştırır. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı da Murdoch'un hem felsefesinde hem romanlarında, genelde, temeli Sigmund Freud tarafından atılan psikanalizin, özelde ise, Freud'dan sonra psikanalizin en önemli ikinci ismi olarak görülen Jacques Lacan'ın kuramlarının yansımalarını incelemektir.Felsefe-psikanaliz ortak paydasında buluşan ve aynı yüzyılı paylaşan iki düşünür olarak Murdoch ve Lacan'ın insan doğasını, onun davranışlarını, bilinçdışı güdülenmelerini ve zihinsel işleyişlerini anlamlandırma sürecinde değindikleri noktalar, kimi zaman birbirleriyle oldukça kesişen kimi zaman ise belirli yerlerde birbirlerinden ayrılan hususlar içerir. Bu çalışmanın amacı bu iki düşünürün görüşlerinin kesişen ve ayrılan noktalarını ortaya koyarak, onların insanı ve yaşamı anlamlandırma süreçlerine ışık tutabilmektir. Murdoch ve Lacan, psikenin zihinsel işleyişlerini, insanın davranış ve düşüncelerini irdelemenin yanında, yirminci yüzyılda yeniden ele alınan dil, hakikat, kuram gibi kavramları da sorgulamışlardır. Bu bağlamda, Lacancı psikanalizin kuramlaştırdığı görüşler, Murdoch'un felsefi yazılarında ve kurgusunda ortaya koyduğu görüşler ile karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenecektir. The importance Iris Murdoch, one of the prominent writers and philosophers of the twentieth century English Literature, gives to the mental mechanism in psychic experience to comprehend and explain human, approximates her frequently to the area of psychoanalysis which acts with the same aim. The main target of this study is to examine the reflections, in general, of psychoanalysis founded by Sigmund Freud, and in particular, of the theories of Jacques Lacan who is accepted as the second important name of psychoanalysis after Freud, on both the philosophy and the fiction of Iris Murdoch.As two thinkers who meet on the common-ground of philosophy and psychoanalysis, the points that Murdoch and Lacan refer to give meaning to the human nature, her/his behaviours, unconscious motivations and mental mechanisms sometimes intersect to some extent and sometimes diverge from each other. The aim of this study, by demonstrating the intersecting and diverging points of the views of those two intellectuals, is to bring light to the process of their comprehending and explaining human. Besides examining the mental mechanisms of psyche and the behaviours and thoughts of human, Murdoch and Lacan questioned some concepts which were reconsidered in the twentieth century such as language, Truth and theory. In this context, the views that were theorized by Lacanian psychoanalysis will be examined in this study comparatively with the views that were brought up in Murdoch's philosophical works and fiction. 404

Bu çalışma, Samuel Richardson’ın İngiliz edebiyatının ilk romanlarından sayılan Pamela (1740) adlı romanının göstergebilimsel açıdan incelenmesini içermektedir. Metnin derin anlamını yüzeye çıkarabilmek için, gösteren ve gösterilen arasındaki ilişkileri farklı bakış açıları ile ortaya koymak amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmada ilk olarak, roman eyleme göre iki ana kesite ve uzamsal, zamansal ve eylemsel değişimlere göre bu iki ana kesitin alt kesitlerine ayrılmıştır. İkinci olarak, temel anlamsal yapıdaki karşıtlıklar de- ğerlendirilmiştir. Üçüncü aşamada, eyleyenlerin farklı bakış açıları ortaya konulmuştur. Dördüncü aşamada, anlatı izlencesinin uzam ve zaman boyutları incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmada genel olarak, yirminci yüzyılda yeni bir boyut kazanmış ve birçok coğrafi bölgede etkili olmuş toplumsal ve kültürel bir yapılanma olan ?çokkültürlülük? olgusunu yaşayan toplumların karşılaştıkları bireysel ve toplumsal çatışmalar, yirminci yüzyılda ?çokkültürlü? bir toplum olarak tanımlanan İngiltere örneğiyle incelenmektedir. Özelde ise çalışmanın amacı, İngiltere'nin bu yapısından kaynaklanan günümüz çatışmalarının bireysel ve toplumsal arka planının çokkültürlü altyapıdan gelen iki çağdaş kadın yazar Zadie Smith (1975) ve Monica Ali (1967)'nin White Teeth (2000) ve Brick Lane (2003) adlı romanlardaki boyutlarıyla incelenmesidir.Çalışmanın giriş bölümünde, ilk olarak, İngiltere'nin bugünkü ?çok-uluslu? ve ?çok-kültürlü? yapısının nasıl ve ne boyutlarda oluştuğu Britanya İmparatorluğu'nun dağılma süreci ve İngiltere'ye göçler çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. Daha sonra, çokkültürlü toplum yapısıyla birlikte yirminci yüzyılda yeni bir yaklaşım olarak ortaya çıkan ?çokkültürcülük? kavramı, bu yaklaşımı benimseyen veya reddeden bakış açıları ve bu yaklaşımın İngiltere'deki yansımaları irdelenmiştir.İkinci bölümde, incelenecek olan romanların çokkültürlü unsurları yansıtan yapıtlar olması nedeniyle, çokkültürlü bakış açısının bir ürünü olan ve ?koloni-sonrası edebiyat? olarak da adlandırılan ?çokkültürlü edebiyat? İngiltere ve İngiliz Edebiyatı boyutuyla tanımlanmış, Zadie Smith ve Monica Ali'nin bu edebi yaklaşımdaki yerleri incelenmiştir.Bu çalışmanın üçüncü ve dördüncü bölümlerinde, İngiltere'nin çokkültürlü toplum yapısından kaynaklanan ve birbirleriyle kesişen bireysel ve toplumsal çatışmalar söz konusu romanlar çerçevesinde irdelenmiştir. Birinci aşamada, bu toplum yapısının ortaya koyduğu ?bireysel çatışmalar?, toplumda sorunlara en çok maruz kalan göçmen ve azınlıklar açısından incelenmiştir. Toplumda bu kesimin çeşitli nedenlerle ?öteki? olarak görülmesinin, çoğu zaman aşağılanmasının, kabul görmemesinin ve bu nedenle arada kalmışlık yaşayarak içinde bulunduğu topluma uyum sağlayamamasının bu kişilerde büyük bir kimlik problemine ve içsel çatışmalara neden olduğu savunulmaktadır.Daha sonra ikinci aşamada ise, gerek bu içsel çatışmaların ortaya çıkardığı sorunsal bireylerden kaynaklanan, gerekse tamamen onların dışında gelişen ?toplumsal çatışmalar? romanlardaki yansımalarıyla incelenmiştir. Günümüzde çokkültürlü toplumlarda büyük ölçüde yaygın olan önyargılar, ırk ve/veya din ayrımcılığı, yabancı düşmanlığı, ırkçılık ve bunların bir arada toplandığı kutuplaşma en temel toplumsal çatışmalardır. İngiltere de, birçok farklı ırk ve din kökenli vatandaşı içeren bir ülke olarak, toplumdaki bu kutuplaşmaya büyük ölçüde maruz kalmış, ırkçı ve terörist saldırılara kadar uzanan toplumsal bir çatışma sürecinin yaşandığı bir sahne konumuna gelmiştir. Sonuç olarak, İngiltere'nin çokuluslu ve çokkültürlü toplum yapısı birçok bireysel ve toplumsal çatışmayı da beraberinde getirmiştir ve bu çalışmada da Zadie Smith'in White Teeth ve Monica Ali'nin Brick Lane adlı romanları çokkültürlü İngiliz toplumuna ayna tutan ve bu çatışmaları yansıtan iki önemli roman olarak irdelenecektir.Anahtar Kelimeler: İngiltere, Çokkültürcülük, Bireysel ve Toplumsal Çatışma, Göçmenler, Azınlıklar, Zadie Smith, Monica Ali In this study, in general, the individual and social conflicts of the societies that have experienced ?multicultural? structure, which is a social and cultural formation having gained a new dimension and have been effective on many geographical regions, are examined by the model of England, which is defined as a multicultural society in the twentieth century. In particular, the aim of the study is to analyze the individual and the social background of the conflicts of today which are originated from the multicultural structure of England, related to the novels: White Teeth (2000) and Brick Lane (2003), respectively by Zadie Smith (1975) and Monica Ali (1967), two contemporary women writers who have come from multicultural backgrounds.In the introduction part of the study, firstly, it is inspected how and in which dimensions the ?multi-national? and ?multicultural? structure of today?s England has been formed, parallel to the process of the collapse of the British Empire and the immigration to England. Afterwards, the concept of ?multiculturalism? which has appeared as a new approach in the twentieth century brought about by multicultural social structure, the point of views which are supporting or rejecting that approach, and the reflections of that approach in England are investigated.In the first chapter, as the novels which will be examined in this study are the writings reflecting the multicultural formation, ?multicultural literature? being the product of multicultural point of view and also being named as ?post-colonial literature? is dealt within the dimension of England and English literature; and the place of Zadie Smith and Monica Ali in this literary approach is observed.In the third and fourth parts of this study, ?individual and social conflicts? which intersect with each other and result from the multicultural social structure of England are analyzed related to the certain novels. In the first dimension, ?individual conflicts? originated from that kind of social structure are evaluated in relation to the immigrants and minorities, who have been exposed to the difficulties in the society on a large scale. It is argued that being considered of those groups as ?the other?, being humiliated frequently, not gaining approval in the society, and because of those reasons not being adopted in the society in which s/he lives by having the dilemma of feeling torn between create significant identity problems and inner conflicts for them.Afterwards, in the second dimension, the ?social conflicts? whether resulting from the problematic individuals experiencing inner conflicts or appearing totally out of those people are analyzed within the certain novels. In our day, the prejudices, racial and religious discrimination, xenophobia, racism which are common in great deal in the multicultural societies, and polarization comprising all of these are the main social conflicts. England as a country, which includes many citizens of diverse racial and religious origins, has been exposed to that kind of polarization on the social base and has entered into a process of social conflict ranging from racist to terrorist attacks.
