O objetivo da pesquisa foi produzir o mapa síntese da vulnerabilidade natural à perda de solo e da fragilidade ambiental da Bacia Hidrográfica do Ribeirão Santa Rita, localizada entre o Distrito Federal e o estado de Goiás. A bacia foi intensamente ocupada por atividades agropecuárias em larga escala, resultando em significativas transformações na paisagem. Na confecção dos mapas, foram utilizadas bases de dados geocartográficos do Sistema Estadual de Geoinformação de Goiás (SIEG), Projeto MapBiomas, imagens SRTM, e metodologias consagradas nos Estudos Integrados da Paisagem no Brasil por Crepani et al. (2001) e Ross (1994). A análise integrada da Bacia permitiu a obtenção de uma síntese da dinâmica ambiental que revela diferentes graus de vulnerabilidade e fragilidade. Desde a década de 1980, a Bacia já perdeu aproximadamente 60% da sua cobertura original de Cerrado. Houve um aumento nas áreas destinadas à monocultura de grãos em detrimento das áreas de pastagens. Os mapas de vulnerabilidade e fragilidade produzidos destacam a complexidade na elaboração de modelos matemáticos. Ambos os métodos indicam que a maior parte da Bacia apresenta um grau médio de vulnerabilidade e fragilidade. Essas metodologias são fundamentais para diversas análises espaciais da realidade e para a criação de modelos que visam identificar vulnerabilidades e potencialidades dos ambientes naturais e antropizados, fornecendo informações essenciais para o planejamento ambiental.

OBJECTIVES:. To determine the actual cost and drivers of the cost of an extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (E-CPR) care cycle. PERSPECTIVE:. A time-driven activity-based costing study conducted from a healthcare provider perspective. SETTING:. A quaternary care ICU providing around-the-clock E-CPR service for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) in Australia. METHODS:. The E-CPR care cycle was defined as the time from initiating E-CPR to hospital discharge or death of the patient. Detailed process maps with discrete steps and probabilistic decision nodes accounting for the complex trajectories of E-CPR patients were developed. Data about clinical and nonclinical resources and timing of activities was collected multiple times for each process . Total direct costs were calculated using the time estimates and unit costs per resource for all clinical and nonclinical resources. The total direct costs were combined with indirect costs to obtain the total cost of E-CPR. RESULTS:. From 10 E-CPR care cycles observed during the study period, a minimum of 3 observations were obtained per process. The E-CPR care cycle’s mean (95% CI) cost was $75,014 ($66,209–83,222). Initiation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ECMO management constituted 18% of costs. The ICU management (35%) and surgical costs (20%) were the primary cost determinants. IHCA had a higher mean (95% CI) cost than OHCA ($87,940 [75,372–100,570] vs. 62,595 [53,994–71,890], p < 0.01), mainly because of the increased survival and ICU length of stay of patients with IHCA. The mean cost for each E-CPR survivor was $129,503 ($112,422–147,224). CONCLUSIONS:. Significant costs are associated with E-CPR for refractory cardiac arrest. The cost of E-CPR for IHCA was higher compared with the cost of E-CPR for OHCA. The major determinants of the E-CPR costs were ICU and surgical costs. These data can inform the cost-effectiveness analysis of E-CPR in the future.

Capaian imunisasi dasar lengkap di Puskesmas Situjuh Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota sangatlah rendah yakni sebesar 17,8%. Angka ini jauh dari target 80%. Perlu upaya untuk meningkatkan kesadaran orang tua mengenai pentingnya imunisasi pada anak. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah melakukan edukasi untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan orang tua/wali murid tentang imunisasi pada anak. Metode pemberdayaan masyarakat yang digunakan yaitu penyuluhan dan advokasi. Kegiatan ini terdiri dari: analisis situasi, perizinan, pembuatan media promosi kesehatan berupa leaflet dan poster, penyuluhan advokasi, dan evaluasi. Khalayak sasaran adalah orang tua / wali murid SDN 02 Ladang Laweh. Pemilihan sasaran berdasarkan rekomendasi dari pihak Puskesmas Situjuh. Kegiatan penyuluhan dilaksanakan disertai dengan pembagian leaflet dan poster. Penyuluhan diikuti oleh 27 orang tua murid yang dilaksanakan di ruangan kelas SDN 02 Ladang Laweh. Hasil kegiatan, terdapat penerimaan dan respon positif dari wali murid terhadap imunisasi pada anak. Setelah penyuluhan, advokasi dilakukan pada pihak sekolah terkait komitmen guru dalam mendukung kegiatan imunisasi pada anak. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi dengan menganalisis kuesioner pre dan post-test, terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan wali murid tentang imunisasi pada anak. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa edukasi dalam bentuk penyuluhan dengan media leaflet dan poster dapat meningkatkan pemahaman dan pengetahuan orang tua / wali murid di SD Negeri 02 Ladang Laweh mengenai pentingnya imunisasi dasar lengkap pada anak.

Resumo Estudos acerca do consentimento informado de paciente no âmbito da odontologia são escassos e apresentam divergências, evidenciando a necessidade de aprofundar o conhecimento sobre definições, dinâmica, atos normativos, jurisprudência e limites de responsabilidade diante de fatores diversos e riscos inerentes à profissão. Por meio de revisão bibliográfica que incluiu estudos indexados nas bases de dados SciELO e LILACS, bem como livros-texto, buscou-se definir o que se entende por consentimento livre e esclarecido do paciente, distinguir diferentes tipos e destacar a denominada “escolha esclarecida”, considerando que a atividade do cirurgião-dentista é classificada como serviço e é regulamentada pela Constituição Federal de 1988, Código de Defesa do Consumidor, Código Civil e leis especiais. Diante disso, busca-se verificar se é possível melhorar a obtenção do consentimento informado do paciente, transformando-a em processo de escolha esclarecida que considere tratamentos adequadamente indicados cuja finalidade principal é a saúde.

Telediagnosis uses information and communication technologies to support diagnosis, shortening geographical distances. It helps make decisions about various oral lesions. The objective of this scoping review was to map the existing literature on digital strategies to assist in the diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma. this review was structured based on the 5-stage methodology proposed by Arksey and O’Malley, the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual for Evidence Synthesis and followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews. The methods were registered on the Open Science Framework. The research question was: What digital strategies have been used to assist in the diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma? The search was conducted on PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and ScienceDirect. Inclusion criteria comprised studies on telediagnosis, teleconsultation or teleconsultation mediated by a professional and studies in English, without date restrictions. The search conducted in June 2023 yielded 1,798 articles, from which 16 studies were included. Telediagnosis was reported in nine studies, involving data screening through applications, clinical images from digital cameras, mobile phones or artificial intelligence. Histopathological images were reported in four studies. Both, telediagnosis and teleconsultation, were mentioned in seven studies, utilizing images and information submission services to platforms, WhatsApp or applications. One study presented teleconsultations involving slides and another study introduced teleconsultation mediated by a professional. Digital strategies telediagnosis and teleconsultations enable the histopathological diagnosis of oral cancer through clinical or histopathological images. The higher the observed diagnostic agreement, the better the performance of the strategy.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected individuals residing in Long-Term Care Facilities (LTCFs), necessitating tailored strategies to manage outbreaks. This study examines the outcomes of the ILPI BH project, a collaborative effort between the Municipal Health Department and the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, designed to mitigate COVID-19 spread within LTCFs. Methods: Prospective cohort of secondary data: 1,794 old residents in 99 long-term care facilities of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, were followed from May 2020 to January 2021. The study analyzed the prevention strategies, residents’ clinical data, and the characteristics of the long-term care facilities, correlating these variables with the number of infections, hospitalizations, and deaths from COVID-19. It checked absolute numbers and rates of incidence, hospitalization, mortality, and lethality. Results: There have been 58 COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities. There were 399 cases among residents, 96 hospitalizations for COVID-19 and 48 deaths from COVID-19 (2.7 % of the cohort), with a case fatality rate of 12 %. After multivariate analysis, the intrinsic variables to residents associated with higher mortality risk were higher degree of frailty (OR=1.08; p = 0.004) and the fact of living in a long-term care facility with a considerable proportion of residents’ coverage by health plans (OR = 1.01; p = 0.028). Early geriatric follow-up showed an association with a reduction in the number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19. Conclusion: The correct classification of the degree of frailty of institutionalized older people seems to have been relevant for predicting mortality from COVID-19. The extensive assistance by private health plans, contrary to what is supposed, did not result in better health protection. Early geriatric follow-up was beneficial and may be an attractive strategy in the face of health emergencies that affect long-term care facilities to reduce hospital admissions.

Abstract BackgroundElectrocardiography (ECG) interpretation is a fundamental skill for medical students and practicing medical professionals. Recognizing ECG pathologies promptly allows for quick intervention, especially in acute settings where urgent care is needed. However, many medical students find ECG interpretation and understanding of the underlying pathology challenging, with teaching methods varying greatly. ObjectiveThis study involved the development of novel animations demonstrating the passage of electrical activity for well-described cardiac pathologies and showcased them alongside the corresponding live ECG traces during a web-based tutorial for final-year medical students. We aimed to assess whether the animations improved medical students’ confidence in visualizing cardiac electrical activity and ECG interpretation, compared to standard ECG teaching methods. MethodsFinal-year medical students at Imperial College London attended a web-based tutorial demonstrating the 7 animations depicting cardiac electrical activity and the corresponding ECG trace. Another tutorial without the animations was held to act as a control. Students completed a questionnaire assessing their confidence in interpreting ECGs and visualizing cardiovascular electrical transmission before and after the tutorial. Intervention-arm participants were also invited to a web-based focus group to explore their experiences of past ECG teaching and the tutorial, particularly on aspects they found helpful and what could be further improved in the tutorial and animations. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and Mann-Whitney U ResultsOverall, 19 students attended the intervention arm, with 15 (79%) completing both the pre- and posttutorial questionnaires and 15 (79%) participating in focus groups, whereas 14 students attended the control arm, with 13 (93%) completing both questionnaires. Median confidence in interpreting ECGs in the intervention arm increased after the tutorial (2, IQR 1.5-3.0 vs 3, IQR 3-4.5; PP ConclusionsThis study highlights the value of providing concise explanations of the meaning and pathophysiology behind ECG traces, both visually and verbally. ECG teaching that incorporates relevant pathophysiology, alongside vignettes with discussions regarding investigations and management options, is likely more helpful to students than practices based solely on pattern recognition. Although the animations supported student learning, the key element was the tutor’s explanations. These animations may be more helpful as a supplement to teaching, for instance, as open-access videos.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection causes intense cytokine/chemokine inflammatory responses and debilitating joint pain. Indoleamine2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO-1) is an enzyme that initiates the tryptophan degradation that is important in initial host innate immune defense against infectious pathogens. Besides that, IDO-1 activation acts as a regulatory mechanism to prevent overactive host immune responses. In this study, we evaluated IDO-1 activity and cytokine/chemokine patterns in CHIKV patients. Higher IDO-1 (Kyn/Trp ratio) activation was observed during the early acute phase of CHIKV infection and declined in the chronic phase. Importantly, increased concentrations of Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Interferon γ (IFN-γ), C-C motif chemokine ligand 2/Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 (CCL2/MCP-1) and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10/Interferon Protein-10 (CXCL10/IP-10) were found in the acute phase of infection, while C-C motif chemokine ligand 4/Macrophage Inflammatory Protein 1 β (CCL4/MIP-1β) was found at increased concentrations in the chronic phase. Likewise, CHIKV patients with arthritis had significantly higher concentrations of CCL4/MIP-1β compared to patients without arthritis. Taken together, these data demonstrated increased IDO-1 activity, possibly exerting both antiviral effects and regulating exacerbated inflammatory responses. CCL4/MIP-1β may have an important role in the persistent inflammation and arthritic symptoms following chikungunya infection.

The co-circulation of chikungunya virus (CHIKV), dengue virus (DENV) and Zika virus (ZIKV) in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil, caused a challenging triple epidemic, as they share similar clinical signs and symptoms and geographical distribution. Here, we aimed to investigate the clinical and laboratorial aspects of chikungunya suspected cases assisted in RJ during the 2018 outbreak, focusing on the differential diagnosis with dengue and zika. All suspected cases were submitted to molecular and/or serological differential diagnostic approaches to arboviruses. A total of 242 cases suspected of arbovirus infection were investigated and 73.6% (178/242) were molecular and/or serologically confirmed as chikungunya. In RT-qPCR confirmed cases, cycle threshold (Ct) values ranged from 15.46 to 35.13, with acute cases presenting lower values. Chikungunya cases were mainly in females (64%) and the most frequently affected age group was adults between 46 to 59 years old (27%). Polyarthralgia affected 89% of patients, especially in hands and feet. No dengue virus (DENV) and Zika virus (ZIKV) infections were confirmed by molecular diagnosis, but 9.5% (23/242) had serological evidence of DENV exposure by the detection of specific anti-DENV IgM or NS1, and 42.7% (76/178) of chikungunya positive cases also presented recent DENV exposure reflected by a positive anti-DENV IgM or NS1 result. A significantly higher frequency of arthritis (p = 0.023) and limb edema (p < 0.001) was found on patients with CHIKV monoinfection compared to dengue patients and patients exposed to both viruses. Lastly, phylogenetic analysis showed that the chikungunya cases were caused by the ECSA genotype. Despite the triple arboviruses epidemic in the state of RJ, most patients with fever and arthralgia investigated here were diagnosed as chikungunya cases, and the incidence of CHIKV/DENV co-detection was higher than that reported in other studies.

Introduction Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of preventable blindness among working-age adults, primarily driven by ocular microvascular complications from chronic hyperglycemia. Comprehending the complex relationship between microvascular changes in the eye and disease progression poses challenges, traditional methods assuming linear or logistical relationships may not adequately capture the intricate interactions between these changes and disease advances. Hence, the aim of this study was to evaluate the microvascular involvement of diabetes mellitus (DM) and non-proliferative DR with the implementation of non-parametric machine learning methods.Research design and methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study that included optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) images collected from a healthy group (196 eyes), a DM no DR group (120 eyes), a mild DR group (71 eyes), and a moderate DR group (66 eyes). We implemented a non-parametric machine learning method for four classification tasks that used parameters extracted from the OCTA images as predictors: DM no DR versus healthy, mild DR versus DM no DR, moderate DR versus mild DR, and any DR versus no DR. SHapley Additive exPlanations values were used to determine the importance of these parameters in the classification.Results We found large choriocapillaris flow deficits were the most important for healthy versus DM no DR, and became less important in eyes with mild or moderate DR. The superficial microvasculature was important for the healthy versus DM no DR and mild DR versus moderate DR tasks, but not for the DM no DR versus mild DR task—the stage when deep microvasculature plays an important role. Foveal avascular zone metric was in general less affected, but its involvement increased with worsening DR.Conclusions The findings from this study provide valuable insights into the microvascular involvement of DM and DR, facilitating the development of early detection methods and intervention strategies.

Oropouche orthobunyavirus (OROV) is an arbovirus transmitted by midges that has been involved in outbreaks throughout Central and South America. In Brazil, human cases have been historically concentrated in the northern region of the country. Oropouche fever in humans range from mild clinical signs to rare neurological events, and is considered a neglected tropical disease in Brazil. Due to the clinical similarities to other arboviruses, such as chikungunya and dengue viruses, OROV infections are likely to be underreported. Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) cases in Brazil were first recognized in 2014 in the states of Amapá and Bahia in the north and northeast regions, respectively. Both OROV and CHIKV cause nonspecific symptoms, making clinical diagnosis difficult in a scenario of arbovirus cocirculation. Aiming to investigate OROV transmission during the CHIKV introduction in the state of Amapá located in the Brazilian Amazon, we conducted a retrospective molecular (RT-qPCR) and serological investigation in febrile cases (N = 166) collected between August 2014 and May 2015. All acute serum samples were negative for OROV RNA using RT-qPCR. However, neutralizing antibodies for OROV were detected using a plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT90) in 10.24% (17/166) of the patients, with neutralizing antibody titers ranging from 20 to ≥640, suggesting the previous exposure of patients to OROV. Regarding CHIKV, recent exposure was confirmed by the detection of CHIKV RNA in 20.25% (33/163) of the patients and by the detection of anti-CHIKV IgM in 28.57% (44/154) of the patients. The additional detection of anti-CHIKV IgG in 12.58% (19/151) of the febrile patients suggests that some individuals had been previously exposed to CHIKV. Whether the OROV exposure reported here occurred prior or during the CHIKV circulation in Amapá, is unknown, but because those arboviral infections share similar clinical signs and symptoms, a silent circulation of enzootic arboviruses during the introduction of exotic arboviruses may occur, and highlights the importance of syndromic cases’ surveillance to arboviruses in Brazil.

Children with perinatally acquired human immunodeficiency virus (PHIV) are growing into adulthood with HIV and treatment-associated comorbidities, such as dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. HIV is identified as independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). The hypothesis behind increased CVD risk associated with HIV includes vascular inflammation, dyslipidemia and combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) metabolomic toxicity. To investigate differences in lipid profiles and pathophysiological mechanisms of CVD risk in adolescents with PHIV, we compared the plasma lipidome of PHIV adolescents and HIV-negative controls. We additionally investigated the influence of current cART regimens and increased lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) levels on the plasma lipidome. We included 20 PHIV-infected adolescents and 20 HIV-negative controls matched for age, sex, ethnic origin and socio-economic status. Plasma lipidome was measured using Thermo Scientific Ultimate 3000 binary high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)–mass spectrometry. We evaluated the plasma lipidome in PHIV adolescents using different cART regimens (including those known to be associated with lipid alterations). The median age was 17.5 years (15.5–20.7) and 16.5 years (15.7–19.8) for PHIV adolescents and controls, respectively. Of PHIV adolescents, 45% used a non-nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)-based (25%) or protease inhibitor (PI)-based (20%) cART regimen. In this pilot study, we observed no significant differences between lipidomic profiles between PHIV adolescents and controls. We observed no differences in the plasma lipidome in participants with increased versus normal Lp(a) levels. Different cART regimens appear to influence chain length differences in the plasma lipidome of PHIV adolescents; however, the significance and causality of this observation remains undetermined. Further research on the influence of cART on lipid composition could further identify these alterations.

This work evaluates the use of co-planar capacitive sensors to provide layer-wise imaging results for the Powder Bed Fusion quality control. A new sensor was designed together with a digital readout electronics which allowed for high-resolution localized measurements. The system was evaluated in different surface features produced by laser PBF with stainless steel 316 powder. Features were tested with and without the presence of the original powder with results showing that the powder presence masked the output for most of the features. This suggests that the ability of carrying charges within an alternating electrical field is similar between powder and the consolidated metal, and that, the concerning signal contribution is much higher than that caused by the conductivity difference between powder and consolidated metal.

Background: Human dimensions are transversal to the concepts of health rehabilitation, since they motivate care actions. The aim of this study was to understand rehabilitation from the collective discernment of a multidisciplinary group. Methods: This was participatory research that used a qualitative approach combined with brainstorming and conceptual mapping techniques, in a focus group of a team of researchers from the Laboratory of Research, Teaching, Extension and Technology in Health, Nursing and Rehabilitation of a Federal University in Brazil, with data publication authorised by the participants. Participants were 92% women and 8% men aged between 25 and 62 and who were members of the research group. The thematic analysis occurred from the semantics of words and associated connectors. Results: Actions in structured levels were found in the collective understanding of rehabilitation, which enabled the formation of a theoretical care design. The first level presented love, hope, respect, empathy, understanding, esteem, and self-determination. The second level included the pillars of the (re)habilitation process: praxis, intersubjectivity, and comfortable living as a product. The third level showed the dimensions of the person as a whole: spirituality, (re)signification of the meanings of life, functionality of biophysical structures, and biopsychosocial (re)construction — the environment where the dynamic constitution of identity is internalised. The fourth level was the environment where actors move and transform (becoming), where diversity is manifested and the uniqueness of the person is acknowledged. Conclusions: Rehabilitation is a (co)constructed process based on human attributes that facilitate or may not facilitate transformation. It implies rebuilding of the process of living, with the diversity of each person. Its actions are based on love, solidarity, and respect for mutual rights. The concept of rehabilitation can support the operationalisation of research and interdisciplinary care in a multidisciplinary team.

Hypoxic ischaemic brain injury after resuscitation from cardiac arrest is associated with dismal clinical outcomes. To date, most clinical interventions have been geared towards the restoration of cerebral oxygen delivery after resuscitation; however, outcomes in clinical trials are disappointing. Therefore, alternative disease mechanism(s) are likely to be at play, of which the response of the innate immune system to sterile injured tissue in vivo after reperfusion has garnered significant interest. The innate immune system is composed of three pillars: (i) cytokines and signalling molecules; (ii) leucocyte migration and activation; and (iii) the complement cascade. In animal models of hypoxic ischaemic brain injury, pro‐inflammatory cytokines are central to propagation of the response of the innate immune system to cerebral ischaemia–reperfusion. In particular, interleukin‐1 beta and downstream signalling can result in direct neural injury that culminates in cell death, termed pyroptosis. Leucocyte chemotaxis and activation are central to the in vivo response to cerebral ischaemia–reperfusion. Both parenchymal microglial activation and possible infiltration of peripherally circulating monocytes might account for exacerbation of an immunopathological response in humans. Finally, activation of the complement cascade intersects with multiple aspects of the innate immune response by facilitating leucocyte activation, further cytokine release and endothelial activation. To date, large studies of immunomodulatory therapies have not been conducted; however, lessons learned from historical studies using therapeutic hypothermia in humans suggest that quelling an immunopathological response might be efficacious. Aesthetic procedures should be avoided in patients with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) since they can negatively impact mental health and lead to further aesthetic dissatisfaction. There are no evidence-based patient pathways for BDD in facial aesthetics which can result in the failure to identify patients with BDD, leading to unsuitable treatments and suboptimal patient care. We aim to construct the first evidence-based patient pathway for BDD in surgical and nonsurgical facial aesthetics. A systematic review was performed and articles that discussed screening or patient pathways for BDD in field of facial aesthetics were included. We extracted relevant information from each article on screening tools and pathways for BDD. Data were synthesized by summarizing the data under column headings into a structured narrative and into new tables. Based on this synthesis, a practical pathway for BDD was constructed. Forty articles fulfilled the criteria for inclusion. Twenty-eight BDD screening tools were discussed in the included articles, and we provide an overview of these tools. Thirty-one articles discussed patient pathways for BDD, and we synthesized this information into a structured narrative. Combining these findings, we present an evidence-based patient pathway for BDD for patients presenting for facial aesthetic treatments. This systematic review has resulted in the first, evidence-based, patient pathway for BDD in surgical and nonsurgical facial aesthetics. This practical pathway can be used by aesthetic clinicians to identify patients with potential BDD and provide clear guidance for managing cases where BDD is suspected. It will help reduce the number of facial aesthetic procedures performed on patients with BDD, safeguard patient mental well-being, and prevent further aesthetic dissatisfaction. OBJECTIVE: To compare active and sedentary older adults regarding functional capacity, risk of falling, and chronic pain in a population assisted by telemonitoring during the pandemic lockdown. METHODS: This analytical, cross-sectional study included 104 older adults who were telemonitored during the COVID-19 lockdown by a team from a Brazilian Unified Health System outpatient clinic specializing in geriatrics and gerontology. A structured interview was used to collect data. Following normality testing with the Shapiro-Wilk test, Student's t-test was used for group comparisons. Associations were analyzed using the χ2 test, and the odds ratio was calculated in a 2×2 table of sedentarism and falls in the last six months. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0, with p ≤ 0.05 considered significant. RESULTS: The 57 active older adults had a lower rate of continuous medication use (24.84 vs 27.62%), fewer falls (50 vs 32.11%), less pain (12.31 vs 3.83%), and greater independence in basic activities of daily living (44.39 vs 26.46%). CONCLUSIONS: Older adults who were physically active in the midst of social distancing had better functional capacity in basic activities of daily living, fewer falls, and less pain than their sedentary peers. Independence in instrumental activities of daily living did not differ significantly between the groups.
