Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent patterns of inattention or hyperactivity and impulsivity that may interfere with daily life. College and university students with ADHD may struggle with aspects of academic library use and research, and ADHD may be underdiagnosed and undertreated in marginalized populations. Academic library support for students with ADHD has been understudied, but more research is emerging on how students with ADHD struggle and adapt to university life. This article will review literature about college students with ADHD and identify themes in the existing research that can inform academic library practices. Recommendations for how academic libraries can support students with ADHD as well as areas for future research will be identified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores how financial professionals can support clients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who face challenges in managing their money and often avoid seeking professional financial advice. Specifically, financial professionals can use motivational interviewing and solution-focused questioning techniques in their client-facing interactions, thereby enhancing their value, attracting new clients, and bolstering their career stability. This article explains key concepts and techniques of motivational interviewing and solution-focused questioning, provides research supporting their use with this population, and illustrates these techniques through a hypothetical case study of a client with ADHD. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of attention–deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) –related psychostimulant use in the context of concussion risk and symptom recovery. Data were obtained from the National Collegiate Athletic Association Department of Defense Grand Alliance Concussion Assessment, Research, and Education (NCAA-DOD CARE) Consortium from 2014 to 2017. Relative to individuals without diagnosed ADHD (i.e., control), both ADHD diagnosis and the combination of ADHD diagnosis and psychostimulant use were associated with a greater risk of incurring a concussive injury. Following a concussive injury, ADHD diagnosis was associated with longer symptom recovery time relative to the control group. However, individuals with ADHD who use psychostimulants did not take longer to resolve symptoms than controls, suggesting that psychostimulants may have a positive influence on recovery. Regardless of time point, ADHD diagnosis was associated with an elevated number of concussion-related symptoms; however, this effect appears mitigated by having used ADHD-related psychostimulants. INTRODUCTION: Diagnosed in about 10% of children in the United States, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by symptoms including inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Traditional interventions, such as pharmacological and psychological interventions, are often used in conjunction with integrative health options, such as animal-assisted interventions. The objective of this manuscript is to report behavior coding findings from a randomized control trial of children with ADHD. METHODS: As part of a larger randomized control trial focused on the efficacy of combining a canine-assisted intervention (live therapy dog or control stuffed dog) with cognitive behavioral therapy for children with ADHD, the current manuscript focuses on video-captured behavior observations (n = 35 children, approximately 322 minutes of data). Data were extracted and coded using the Observation of Human-Animal Interaction Research (OHAIRE) Coding System. Behavior codes are reported as summary scores for the following domains: animal social interaction and human social interaction (further separated into human-adult social interaction and human-peer social interaction). Repeated measures mixed models analyses were performed using SAS PROC GLIMMIX to evaluate group differences and change across the study period. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in how much children interacted with the live therapy dogs versus control stuffed dogs. With respect to human-to-human social interactions, children showed greater increases over time in human-directed social interactions in the presence of live therapy dogs compared to stuffed dogs (p = .020). Over the course of the 12-week intervention, children increased in interactions with both adults (p = .006) and their peers (p = .014); however, there were more increases over time in adult-directed social interactions in the live animal condition compared to the control stuffed animal condition (p < 0.0001). DISCUSSION & CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest changes in social interaction when participating in this canine-assisted intervention, specifically greater increases in human-to-human social interactions over time when a live therapy dog is present compared to a control stuffed dog. Children appear to engage relatively equally with both live and stuffed dogs; however, the impact of animals on human socialization differs based on if a live animal is present. Future studies should consider incorporating behavior coding analysis into studies of canine-assisted interventions to identify how human-animal interactions may be moderators or mechanisms for psychosocial outcomes.

Background Methods Results Conclusions Dupilumab is the first and only biologic agent approved for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) in pediatric patients aged from 6 months to 17 years. The study aimed to evaluate the impact of dupilumab on the occurrence of comorbidities in pediatric patients with AD.In this population‐based cohort study, we utilized electronic health records from multiple healthcare organizations across the United States. Pediatric patients (<18 years of age) with a diagnosis of AD initiating dupilumab were propensity‐score matched 1:1 to those initiating other systemic agents (azathioprine, cyclosporine, methotrexate, mycophenolate mofetil, or systemic corticosteroids). The primary outcomes were new‐onset comorbidities emerging during the study period measured by the risk ratio (RR) and its confidence interval (CI). Subgroup analyses were stratified by age (0–5 years, 6–11 years, and 12–17 years), sex, and race.A total of 3575 pediatric patients with AD treated with dupilumab were matched to 3575 patients treated with other systemic agents. The dupilumab cohort was associated with a lowered risk of new‐onset atopic comorbidities (including asthma [RR, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.59–0.89] and allergic rhinitis [RR, 0.62; 95% CI, 0.52–0.74]), infections (e.g., skin and soft tissue infection [RR, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.63–0.76] and respiratory tract infection [RR = 0.56; 95% CI, 0.51–0.61]), psychiatric disorders (e.g., mood disorder [RR, 0.52; 95% CI, 0.39–0.70] and anxiety [RR, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.46–0.70], sleep disturbance [RR, 0.60; 95% CI, 0.47–0.77]), neurologic and developmental disorders (e.g., attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [RR, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.38–0.75]). Furthermore, the positive effects are found to be more pronounced in younger children (aged 0–5 years) with AD.Treatment with dupilumab compared to systemic agents resulted in reductions in AD‐related comorbidities in pediatric patients. Background: Adolescents with attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have an increased risk of self-harm. The risk of self-harm among adolescents who display an elevated level of ADHD symptoms, but without a formal diagnosis, is not well-studied and understood. Objective: To investigate the relationship between self-reported symptoms of ADHD and self-harm in a population-based sample of adolescents. Methods: Adolescents in the population-based youth@hordaland study were invited to complete the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS) and the Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (SMFQ). They were asked whether they ever deliberately have taken an overdose or tried to harm themselves on purpose, once or multiple times, defined according to the code used in the Child and Adolescent Self-harm in Europe (CASE) Study. Adolescents reporting severe problems on ≥ four of six selected items on the ASRS-v 1.1 screener were defined as ADHD-screen positive (ADHD-SC+), and the remaining sample as ADHD-screen negative (ADHD-SC-). SMFQ score ≥ 12 was used to define a high level of depressive symptoms. Results: A total of 9692 adolescents (mean age 17.4 years, 53.1% females) participated in the study, of which 2390 (24.7%) screened positive on the ASRS. ADHD-SC+ adolescents engaged in self-harm more often than the ADHD-SC- group (14.6% vs. 5.4%, OR = 3.02, 95%CI [2.57–3.24]). This remained significant after adjustment for demographic variables, SMFQ score ≥ 12, symptoms of conduct disorder and familial history of self-harm and suicide attempts (OR = 1.58, 95%CI [1.31–1.89]). They were also more likely to report an overdose as their method of self-harm (OR = 1.52, 95%CI [1.05–2.23]). Within the ADHD-SC+ group female sex, high levels of inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms, SMFQ score ≥ 12, symptoms indicating conduct disorder and familial history of self-harm and suicide attempts increased the likelihood of engaging in deliberate self-harm. Conclusion: Adolescents who screened positive for ADHD had increased risk of engaging in self-harm. Background: The current study examined whether coping strategies and symptoms of Adjustment Disorder in adults with ADHD differed from what was observed in the general adult population during the Covid-19 pandemic, and compared the extent to which coping strategies and symptom levels of Adjustment Disorder were related to ADHD. Method: This cross-sectional study was based on survey data collected during the spring of 2021 from 231 adult ADHD patients in specialist care and 1148 volunteers without ADHD in Sweden. The survey included questions about sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, along with the Brief-COPE and Adjustment Disorder–New Module 8 questionnaires. Regression models adjusting for sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were used for between-group comparisons of coping strategies and symptoms of Adjustment Disorder. Results: There were some notable differences in the use of coping strategies between persons with and without ADHD; however, many of these differences were not observed in the adjusted models. The use of behavioral disengagement was more frequently observed among individuals with ADHD, whereas planning was more common among individuals without ADHD. Individuals with ADHD appeared to show higher symptom levels of Adjustment Disorder during the pandemic. Passive coping strategies, such as denial, self-blame, and behavioral disengagement, were associated with higher symptom levels of adjustment disorder in both individuals with and without ADHD. Conclusion: In conclusion, the results highlight that persons with ADHD may need more support to adjust to large societal changes than the general public. ABSTRACT Aim Methods Results and Discussion Conclusion This study assessed whether transition age between adolescence and young adulthood poses a challenge for both patients and mental health services.We retrospectively examined the baseline characteristics, diagnoses and treatments of 99 individuals aged 16–35 presenting to the PRecocity of Intervention in Adolescent Medicine (PRIMA) transition‐age mental health outpatient clinic, Italy, over a 24‐month period.Most patients were female, aged 20 or younger, employed and did not experience impairment in daily autonomies. About half patients were referred by general practitioners or self‐referred, often as initial contact with any adult mental health services, complaining with multiple symptoms (88%), mainly including anxiety, affective disturbances and insomnia. Most of them received a single diagnosis (68%), one out of three being diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder. Patients presenting with anxiety (63% vs. 32%; OR = 3.55, p = 0.01) and affective symptoms (56% vs .23%; OR = 4.26, p = 0.01) and receiving multiple diagnoses (30% vs. 9%; χ2(2) = 19.7, p < 0.01) were more likely to be prescribed with psychopharmacological medication at the first visit. At a 6‐month follow‐up, one in two patients remained in PRIMA, while the others required different services tailored to their specific conditions, especially neurodevelopmental disorders.Findings from this study warrant the need for specialised mental healthcare facilities ensuring timely and high‐quality interventions for adolescents transitioning into young adulthood. Introduction/Objectives: Exposure to adverse social determinants of health (SDoH) in childhood is associated with poorer long-term health outcomes. Within structurally marginalized populations, there are disproportionately high rates of developmentally vulnerable children. The RICHER (Responsive, Intersectoral, Child and Community Health, Education and Research) social pediatric model was designed to increase access to care in marginalized neighborhoods. The purpose of this study was to describe the children and youth engaged with the RICHER model of service and characterize the needs of the population. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on children and youth who accessed primary care services through the program between January 1, 2018 and April 30, 2021. Basic descriptive data analysis was done using Stata v15.1. Results: A total of 210 charts were reviewed. The mean age in years at initial assessment was 6.32. Patients most commonly identified their race/ethnicity as Indigenous (33%) and 15% were recent newcomers to Canada. Evidence of at least 1 adverse SDoH was noted in 41% of charts; the most common included material poverty (34%), food insecurity (11%), and child welfare involvement (20%). The median number of diagnoses per patient was 4. The most frequently documented diagnoses were neurodevelopmental disorders (50%) including developmental delay (39%), ADHD (32%), and learning disability (26%). The program referred 72% of patients to general pediatricians and/or other subspecialists; 34% were referred for tertiary neuropsychological assessments and 35% for mental health services. Conclusions: Our data suggests that this low-barrier, place-based primary care RICHER model was able to reach a medically, developmentally, and socially complex population living in disenfranchised urban neighborhoods. Half of the patients identified in our review had neurodevelopmental concerns and a third had mental health concerns, in contrast to an estimated 17% prevalence for mental health, behavioral, or developmental disorders in North American general pediatric aged populations. This highlights the impact adverse SDoH can have on child health and the importance of working with community partners to identify developmentally vulnerable children and support place-based programs in connecting with children who may be missed, overlooked, or disadvantaged through traditional models of care. Evidence regarding the impact of probiotics supplementation in ADHD children is limited and controversial. Thus, this study aimed to assess the effect of probiotics as an adjunctive therapy with Ritalin among ADHD children and adolescents.This study was a triple-blind, randomized controlled trial of 60 Iranian ADHD patients aged four to sixteen. The participants were randomly assigned to receive probiotics supplements containing both Lactobacillus plantarum PTCC 1896™ (A7) and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. Lactis (BB-12®) (n = 30) or placebo (n = 30) for 8 weeks. ADHD symptoms were assessed using Conners’ Parent Rating Scale (CPRS) and Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test (IVA/CPT) at baseline and during the study.This study showed a significant decrease in the CPRS total score after 4 weeks of intervention in the probiotic group (baseline: 43.96 ± 21.52; fourth week: 37.22 ± 23.01; p = 0.01). However, no significant finding was found for the total score of the CPRS after 8 weeks. Moreover, at the end of the study, a significant increase was observed in score of auditory response control in the probiotic versus the placebo group (probiotic: 91.55 ± 16.69; placebo: 80.55 ± 17.43; p = 0.02).Probiotics supplementation with Ritalin may have some beneficial effects among ADHD children and adolescents, such as improving auditory response control and total score of CPRS. AbstractObjectiveMaterials and methodsResultsConclusionsThe Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale-IV (ADHD-RS-IV) assesses ADHD symptoms in children and adolescents. The original United States norms comprise percentiles. Yet, no Nordic percentile norms exist, and only T-scores, which (often falsely) assume normally distributed data, are currently available. Here, we for the first time provide Danish percentile norms for children aged 6–9 based on parent/caregiver-reports, and illustrate the potential consequences of T-scores when derived based on the expected skewed distribution of an ADHD scale in the population.The sample comprised 1895 Danish schoolchildren (879 girls and 1016 boys) in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade from the general population. Their parents/caregivers completed the ADHD-RS-IV. Sex and age differences were investigated, percentiles were derived based on the observed score distributions, and for comparison, T-scores > 70 were estimated, which are expected to identify the top 2.3% under the assumption of normality.Boys were rated to have higher ADHD-RS-IV scores than girls except on the impulsivity score. No age effects were found on the majority of scores. Sex-stratified and unisex percentiles (80, 90, 93, 98) were reported. The distribution of ADHD-RS-IV scores were highly skewed. T-score cutoffs identified a significantly higher proportion of and about twice as many children as having elevated ADHD symptoms than expected (4.3–5.2% vs. 2.3%).ADHD-RS-IV (parent/caregiver-report) percentile norms for young Danish schoolchildren are now available for future reference. The use of percentiles is considered appropriate given the skewed score distribution and since T-scores appear to over-identify children as having clinically elevated ADHD symptoms. Background: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) frequently persists into adulthood. There are practice guidelines that outline the requirements for the assessment and treatment of adults. Nevertheless, guidelines specifying what constitutes a good quality diagnostic assessment and report and the competencies required to be a specialist assessor are lacking. This can lead to variation in the quality and reliability of adult ADHD assessments. Poor quality assessments may not be accepted as valid indicators of the presence of ADHD by other clinicians or services, resulting in wasteful re-assessments and delays in providing treatment. To address this issue the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN) proposes a quality framework for adult ADHD assessments - the Adult ADHD Assessment Quality Assurance Standard (AQAS). Methods: The co-authors agreed on five questions or themes that then guided the development of a set of consensus statements. An initial draft was reviewed and amended in an iterative process to reach a final consensus. Results: What constitutes a high-quality diagnostic assessment and report was agreed by consensus of the co-authors. The resulting guideline emphasises the need to evaluate impairment, describes core competencies required by the assessor and highlights the importance of linking the diagnosis to an appropriate post-diagnostic discussion. Assessments should be completed in the context of a full psychiatric and neurodevelopmental review, and need good interview skills, using a semi-structured interview with open questioning and probing to elicit real life examples of symptoms and impairments. It is recommended that 2 hours or more is required for an adequate assessment including both the diagnostic assessment and initial post-assessment discussions. Conclusion: The AQAS has been developed as a practical resource to support reliable and valid diagnostic assessments of adult ADHD. It is intended to complement formal training. The 24-hour movement behavior (24-HMB) guidelines recommend that children and adolescents (youth) should limit screen time (ST), get an adequate amount of sleep (SL), and engage in sufficient physical activity (PA) to ensure health and healthy development. Meeting 24-HMB guidelines is associated with positive mental health outcomes (e.g., social and emotional function) in the general population. However, it is unclear whether such findings extend to youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Thus, we examined associations of meeting 24-HMB guidelines with social and emotional function in youth with comorbid ASD/ADHD. Data from the 2020–2021 National Survey of Children's Health - a U.S. national, population-based, cross-sectional study – were used. We extracted and analyzed data on youth (aged between 6 and 17 years) diagnosed with comorbidity of ASD/ADHD. Data on movement behaviors (PA, ST, and SL) and specific outcome variables (social function and emotional function) were collected through caregiver-proxy reports. Logistic regressions were performed to examine the associations between meeting 24-HMB guidelines and social and emotional outcomes adjusting for covariates (e.g., age, sex, ethnicity, weight status, birth status, socio-economic status, and receiving medication/behavioral treatment). Among 979 children and adolescents with comorbid ASD/ADHD, only 3.8 % met all three 24-HMB guidelines. In total, 45.0 % of participants met at least one guideline, and 25.5 % of those met at least two guidelines. Compared to those who did not meet any 24-HMB guidelines, meeting SL + ST guidelines was significantly associated with lower odds of poorer social function (being bullied: OR = 0.3, 95%CI [0.1–0.7]; arguing: OR = 0.2, 95%CI[0.1–0.4]). Furthermore, meeting PA + ST + SL guidelines was associated with lower odds of poorer emotional function (depression: OR = 0.5, 95%CI[0.3–0.7]). Meeting 24-HMB guidelines was associated with better social and emotional function in U.S. youth with comorbid ASD/ADHD; however, currently very few with comorbid ASD/ADHD meet all 24-HMB guidelines. These results emphasize the importance of promoting adherence to the 24-HMB guidelines among youth facing the challenges of comorbid ASD/ADHD. These cross-sectional findings point to the need for further empirical evidence from longitudinal studies to support our conclusions. • Youth with ASD/ADHD failed to meet the 24-hour movement behavior guidelines. • Approaches aimed at improving mental well-being could include improving sleep and reducing screen time. • Meeting the physical activity guideline appears to be the most difficult for youth with ASD/ADHD. The co-occurrence Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) in children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has been associated to difficulties in regulating adverse states, elevated functional impairment, deficits in Executive Functions and high risk for psychopathology. Recent studies have shown that ODD is a negative predictor of a positive response to methylphenidate (MPH) treatment for ADHD symptoms in children and adolescents and that patients with a diagnosis of comorbid ADHD and ODD are less likely to respond favorably to pharmacological treatment with MPH. We conducted a naturalistic study to understand the clinical characteristics of drug-naïve children and adolescents with ADHD that influence the response to MPH by measuring the effect on attention. Specifically, we investigated whether a single dose of MPH differently affects the performance of 53 children and adolescents with ADHD with or without ODD comorbidity. In addition, participant characteristics such as symptom severity, functional impairment, and associated behavioral and emotional symptoms at baseline were examined to better understand what aspects affect the response to MPH. We found that a single dose of MPH improved the attention of children and adolescents with ADHD without ODD more than those with comorbid ADHD and ODD, resulting in reduced reaction times. Our findings indicated that children and adolescents with comorbid ADHD and ODD and those with ADHD alone did not exhibit differences in measures of attention prior to taking MPH, nor in demographic variables (age, intelligence quotient, gender), clinical characteristics related to symptom severity, and adaptive behaviors. However, we observed differences between the two groups in certain behavioral aspects, including the Dysregulation Profile and disruptive behaviors. Background: SYNGAP1 variants are associated with varying degrees of intellectual disability (ID), developmental delay (DD), epilepsy, autism, and behavioural difficulties. These features may also be observed in other monogenic conditions. There is a need to systematically compare the characteristics of SYNGAP1 with other monogenic causes of ID and DD to identify features unique to the SYNAGP1 phenotype. We aimed to contrast the neurodevelopmental and behavioural phenotype of children with SYNGAP1-related ID (SYNGAP1-ID) to children with other monogenic conditions and a matched degree of ID. Methods: Participants were identified from the IMAGINE-ID study, a UK-based, national cohort study of neuropsychiatric risk in children with ID of known genetic origin. Thirteen children with SYNGAP1 variants (age 4–16 years; 85% female) were matched (2:1) with 26 controls with other monogenic causes of ID for chronological and mental age, sex, socio-economic deprivation, adaptive behaviour, and physical health difficulties. Caregivers completed the Development and Wellbeing Assessment (DAWBA) and physical health questionnaires. Results: Our results demonstrate that seizures affected children with SYNGAP1-ID (84.6%) more frequently than the ID-comparison group (7.6%; p = < 0.001). Fine-motor development was disproportionally impaired in SYNGAP1-ID, with 92.3% of children experiencing difficulties compared to 50% of ID-comparisons(p = 0.03). Gross motor and social development did not differ between the two groups. Children with SYNGAP1-ID were more likely to be non-verbal (61.5%) than ID-comparisons (23.1%; p = 0.01). Those children able to speak, spoke their first words at the same age as the ID-comparison group (mean = 3.25 years), yet achieved lower language competency (p = 0.04). Children with SYNGAP1-ID compared to the ID-comparison group were not more likely to meet criteria for autism (SYNGAP1-ID = 46.2%; ID-comparison = 30.7%; p =.35), attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (15.4%;15.4%; p = 1), generalised anxiety (7.7%;15.4%; p =.49) or oppositional defiant disorder (7.7%;0%; p =.15). Conclusion: For the first time, we demonstrate that SYNGAP1-ID is associated with fine motor and language difficulties beyond those experienced by children with other genetic causes of DD and ID. Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) represent a large group of disorders with an onset in the neonatal or early childhood period; NDDs include intellectual disability (ID), autism spectrum disorders (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD), seizures, various motor disabilities and abnormal muscle tone. Among the many underlying Mendelian genetic causes for these conditions, genes coding for proteins involved in all aspects of the gene expression pathway, ranging from transcription, splicing, translation to the eventual RNA decay, feature rather prominently. Here we focus on two large families of RNA helicases (DEAD- and DExH-box helicases). Genetic variants in the coding genes for several helicases have recently been shown to be associated with NDD. We address genetic constraints for helicases, types of pathological variants which have been discovered and discuss the biological pathways in which the affected helicase proteins are involved. Background: The association between psychiatric disorders and dentofacial deformities has attracted widespread attention. However, their relationship is currently unclear and controversial. Methods: A two-sample bidirectional MR analysis was performed to study the causal relationship between dentofacial deformity and eight psychiatric disorders, including major depressive disorder, panic disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Alzheimer's disease, autism spectrum disorder, and neuroticism. Inverse variance weighted, weighted median, MR-Egger regression, weighted mode four methods, and further sensitivity analyses were conducted. Results: The major depressive disorder affected dentofacial deformity, with an OR = 1.387 (95% CI = 1.181-1.629, P = 6.77Ã--10-5). No other psychiatric disorders were found to be associated with dentofacial deformity. In turn, dentofacial deformity were associated with neuroticism, with an OR = 1.050 (95% CI = 1.008-1.093, P = 0.018). And there was no evidence that dentofacial deformity would increase the risk of other psychiatric disorders. Conclusions: Major depressive disorder might elevate the risk of dentofacial deformities, and dentofacial deformity conditions would increase the risk of the incidence of neuroticism. Background: Interventions focused on cognitive function in neurodivergent children typically focus on single functions, e.g. working memory training. They are often focused on 'deficit' models and lack an emphasis on understanding areas of individual strengths and difficulties as a prerequisite to appropriate support. The multidimensional nature and phenotypic variability of cognitive profiles in these children indicate a need for a multicomponent-tailored intervention programme focused on understanding and supporting an individual child's cognitive functioning. Aims: The 'EPIC' intervention (Edinburgh Psychoeducation Intervention for Children and Young People) is focused on improving cognition, learning and behaviour in neurodivergent children such as those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or who are autistic. Building on our previous co-production work, this study aimed to use a participatory methods approach to develop EPIC practices and materials in relation to our key principles which include psychoeducation, multicomponent, individualised approach, strengths and difficulties profiling and pairing of a child's individual strengths and difficulties with internal and external strategies. We also set out to assess the feasibility and acceptability of EPIC, and pilot this novel tool-kit intervention with neurodivergent children and their parents and teachers. Methods: The intervention practices, materials and strategies of EPIC were co-produced with neurodivergent children, their parents, teachers and clinicians taking a strengths and difficulties approach. Identification of psychoeducation activities and strategy practices (e.g. mind-maps, chunking), testing of feasibility and collection of pilot data were conducted over a bi-weekly 8-week programme. Eleven neurodivergent children aged 7 to 12 completed the 16-session individualised programme. Acceptability and feasibility were ascertained via qualitative reports elicited within child and teacher interviews and child ratings of enjoyment. Pilot evaluation data was collected pre- and post-intervention participation, and across cognitive assessments (CANTAB, BRIEF), educational attainment (WIAT) and parent and teacher questionnaires measuring clinical symptoms and behaviour (Conners, AQ, SDQ, self-perception). Data was compared with a matched neurodivergent treatment-as-usual control group (N = 9). Results: The co-produced EPIC intervention was both feasible to deliver and acceptable to children, parents and their teachers. Pilot data identified that the 8-week intervention improved cognition (short-term and working memory) and literacy (receptive vocabulary, oral word fluency, listening comprehension). Improvements in the intervention group were also found for parent-reported child behavioural difficulties and aggression, and teacher-reported scholastic competence. Effect sizes generated (Cohen's d) ranged from 0.65 to 2.83. Parents reported continuing to use EPIC strategies when interviewed over a year after participating in the programme. Conclusion: The current study met our objectives fully. 'EPIC' (Edinburgh Psychoeducation Intervention for Children and Young People) is feasible in home and school contexts and improves a range of aspects of cognition, learning and behaviour in neurodivergent children. This service evaluation aims to explore the needs of young people (YP) with ADHD engaging in risk behaviours. Demographic, clinical, social, and service involvement data were extracted from records of 443 YP referred to a Forensic Community CAMHS service. A sixth (74, 16.7%) had a diagnosis of ADHD. They had similar CAMHS input (55, 74.3%) compared to those with autism but many more had Youth Offending Team (YOT) involvement (22, 29.7% with ADHD; 5, 6.4% with ASC). A quarter (20, 27.8%) were in mainstream school with a fifth (13, 18.1%) out of education or training (NEET). Half (41, 55.4%) had an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). The prevalence of ADHD in YP referred and high levels of YOT input suggests missed opportunities to prevent the development of poor outcomes and criminalisation, including those not open to CAMHS and, therefore, unable to access medication, and those out of education without an EHCP. Objective: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) frequently co-occurs with developmental coordination disorder (DCD). This study aimed to evaluate the association between DCD symptoms and neuropsychological characteristics in children with and without ADHD. Methods: We recruited 298 children aged 5-12 years. Motor performance was assessed using the Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire (DCDQ), while ADHD symptoms were assessed using the ADHD Rating Scale (ARS) and the Advanced Test of Attention (ATA). Cognitive characteristics were measured using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale, and behavioral characteristics were assessed using the Korean Personality Rating Scale for Children. Results: The children had a mean age of 7.6 ± 1.7 years, with 214 (71.8%) being boys. Among children diagnosed with ADHD (n = 176), 39.2% exceeded the DCDQ cutoff score, compared to 4.1% in the neurotypical group (n = 122). In the correlation analysis, the DCDQ total score was significantly correlated with ARS, omission and commission errors in visual and auditory ATA, and fullscale intellectual quotient. In addition, symptoms of depression, social dysfunction, and psychosis were correlated with the DCDQ total score. In the between-group analysis, children with both ADHD and DCD exhibited more omission errors on the auditory ATA and behavioral problems related to depression, social dysfunction, and psychosis compared to children with ADHD only. Conclusion: Our study indicates that children with ADHD exhibit more difficulties in motor performance. Children with both ADHD and DCD may present with a greater burden of psychiatric conditions than children with ADHD only, suggesting the need for careful monitoring in clinical practice. Functional head impulse test (fHIT) was applied to all participants in three conditions—with no additional stimulus, optokinetic stimulation and dual‐task. For the dual‐task test performance, children were given a counting task.The findings of the study are significant. The CR values obtained from the fHIT tests applied under three different conditions were lower in the ADHD group compared to the control group. CR values for all fHIT conditions and all semicircular canals were lower in the ADHD‐PI subtype and higher in the ADHD‐HI subtype compared to other subgroups.This study has significant practical implications underscoring its relevance. fHIT, when applied with different protocols, can provide valuable information about the vestibular and cognitive states of children with ADHD. This study explores the behavioral effects of modulating CaMKII-positive (CaMKII+) neurons in the posterior hypothalamus (PH). Utilizing a chemogenetic approach in mice, we discovered that the activation of CaMKII + neurons within the PH is associated with heightened locomotor activity, reduced social interaction, and impulsive behavior unrelated to anxiety or avoidance. These observed behaviors share a significant resemblance with characteristics commonly found in attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Notably, treatment with clonidine, which is frequently prescribed for ADHD, effectively reduced impulsive behaviors in our mouse model. Psychodynamic psychotherapy does not feature in current treatment guidelines for attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the United Kingdom. However, there is some psychoanalytic understanding of the disorder, which is corroborated in current neuroscientific theory, and supports clinicians in thinking beyond the behaviourally biased diagnosis and treatment models. One of the core features of ADHD is distortions in chronoception. This clinical paper therefore explores the psychoanalytic and neuroscientific theories of time perception as a way of exploring a discrete element of the complex idea of executive functioning more generally. It supports therapists approaching such executive dysfunction and to reconsider the treatment guidelines. A case example is used to explore how a transference‐, affect‐ and relationally‐focussed therapy can effect lasting change for people with ADHD in a way that behavioural and medication approaches do not. It is argued that such an intervention can improve oscillatory attention between subjective‐ and objective‐time and increase the capacity to self‐contain emotions. This brings patients into alignment with reality and restarts their psychic development towards themselves, others, the parental couple and grieving, which stalled in infancy. ObjectivesMaterials and MethodsResultsConclusionsThe aim of this study was to determine the comorbid psychiatric diagnoses, peer bullying rates and NSSI characteristics in adolescents who engage in self-injuring behavior.This case-controlled cross-sectional study was conducted between 1 March 2020 and 1 May 2021 in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Paediatrics outpatient clinic of a hospital in the Southeastern Anatolia region of Turkey. The data of 50 adolescents with NSSI and 60 adolescents without NSSI attending school were compared. The data in the study were obtained using sociodemographic form prepared by the researchers, the Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia Interview Schedule for School-Age Children—Present and Lifetime Version—Dsm–5, Peer Bullying Scale Adolescent Form and Self-Injurious Behaviour Assessment Inventory.Fifty adolescents (70% female) with a mean age of 15.4 years (S.D. = 1.4) with NSSI were included as case group and 60 adolescents (66.7% female) with a mean age of 15.5 years (S.D. = 1.3) without NSSI were included as control group. Banging/hitting self was the most common NSSI method, while affect regulation was the most common function. In the case group, verbal, isolation and damage to belongings among the victim subtypes in the last year were found to be significantly higher than in the control group. It was found that there was a positive correlation between the variety of self-injury methods and bullying exposure scores in adolescents with NSSI. Depression disorders, anxiety disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder diagnoses were found to be more prevalent in the group with NSSI.Based on the finding, it was found that psychiatric diagnoses are more common in adolescents with NSSI, peer bullying subtypes are seen at a higher rate, and as bullying scores increase, the variety of NSSI methods also increases. It is thought that providing psychiatric evaluation and treatment for adolescents with NSSI, establishing cooperation with school and family for peer bullying, developing preventive mental health policies and effective intervention programmes may be beneficial. Background: Evidence of an association between maternal use of antiseizure medication (ASM) during pregnancy and the risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children is conflicting. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarize the relationship between fetal exposure to ASM and the development of ASD or ADHD in offspring. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed and other databases to identify relevant epidemiological studies published from inception until 1 March 2024. Results: Seven cohort studies were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that maternal exposure to ASMs during pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of ASD [odds ratio (OR): 2.1, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.63-2.71; p < 0.001] in the general population. This association became weaker (ASD: OR: 1.38, 95% CI: 1.11-1.73; p = 0.004) when the reference group was mothers with a psychiatric disorder or epilepsy not treated during pregnancy. Furthermore, an increased risk of ADHD was observed when the study data adjusted for drug indications were pooled (OR: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.07-1.92; p = 0.015). In subgroup analyses based on individual ASM use, only exposure to valproate preconception was significantly associated with an increased risk of ASD or ADHD. Conclusion: The significant association between maternal ASM use during pregnancy and ASD or ADHD in offspring may be partially explained by the drug indication or driven by valproate. Introduction: This study aimed to determine eating mindfulness (EM), night eating syndrome (NES), and sleep quality in adult subjects presenting to a psychiatric outpatient clinic and to evaluate possible differences according to diagnoses and clinical variables. Methods: This study included 381 outpatients. Sociodemographic data were collected, the Night Eating Questionnaire (NEQ), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the Mindful Eating Questionnaire (MEQ) were completed, and body mass index was measured. Results: The median PSQI score was 3.0 (0.0-7.0), the median NEQ total score was 4.0 (0.0-14.0), and the median MEQ total score was 76.0 (59.0-95.0). Sixteen percent of the participants met the NES criteria. The patient group with the poorest sleep quality was the group with alcohol/substance use disorder and atypical psychosis. The patient groups with the lowest EM were those with schizophrenia, impulse control disorder, attention deficit disorder, and hyperactivity disorder. The highest NEQ score was found in individuals diagnosed with alcohol/substance use disorder. As the NEQ scores increased, so did the PSQI. A significant negative correlation was found between NEQ and MEQ total, disinhibition, emotional eating, eating control, and focus. The PSQI (β=1.169, p<0.001) and the eating control subdimension (β=-0.425, p=0.003) predicted the NEQ scale. Conclusion: NES should not be underestimated in psychiatric outpatient clinics. EM, NES, and sleep quality are closely related. Regarding patients' eating attitudes, sleep problems in psychiatric disorders should also be considered. Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder in older adults that is associated with neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and characterized by loss of dopaminergic cells. Illicit stimulants increase oxidative stress and are associated with increased risk of PD. Prescription stimulants are similar in mechanism to illicit stimulants, yet their influence on PD is not well described. This study aims to determine if prescription stimulants influence risk of PD among older adults with attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods We implemented a retrospective observational cohort design utilizing the TriNetX database which sources from the electronic health records of 57 healthcare organizations. Inclusion criteria were ADHD diagnosis and age ≥50. Those exposed to stimulants and the unexposed controls were matched based on demographics and known risk factors for PD. The outcome of interest was the incidence of PD over a 30-year follow-up period. We utilized TriNetX software for hazard ratio (HR) analysis. Results Among the 59,471 individuals treated with prescription stimulants 131 of them developed PD, and there were 272 individuals who developed PD that were not prescribed stimulants. This analysis yielded a HR of 0.419 (HR = 0.419 [95% CI 0.34, 0.516], P = 0.0013). Conclusion Illicit stimulants are associated with increased risk of PD, but this study suggests prescribed stimulants may not impart that same risk. The reduced risk in this cohort may be due to protection from illicit substance use and oxidative stress, however additional study exploring the relationship between prescription stimulants and PD is warranted. After sport-related concussion (SRC), immediate access to a certified athletic trainer (AT) is important to ensure proper treatment. However, resource allocation and coverage may differ between male and female youth sports. To compare resource allocation between male and female sports in the following areas: (1) rates of immediate on-field evaluation by an AT at the time of injury, (2) time to general health care presentation, and (3) time to SRC clinic presentation. Retrospective cohort study. Regional sports concussion center. Athletes aged 14 to 18 years who presented to a regional sports concussion center from November 2017 to April 2022. The primary exposure of interest was sex (male or female). The primary outcome was immediate on-field evaluation by an AT (yes or no). Secondary outcomes included time to general health care and SRC clinic presentation. Descriptive statistics, χ2 analyses, and linear regressions were performed. Covariates included age, history of prior concussions, and statistically significant demographics. A total of 832 patients with SRC were included (age = 16.2 ± 1.2 years, 66.5% male). Female athletes had lower rates of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (χ2 = 10.404, P =.001) and higher rates of anxiety and depression (χ2 = 12.891, P <.001) compared with male athletes. The average time to presentation to general health care and the SRC clinic did not differ between males and females, but AT on-field evaluation occurred more in male (40.3%) than female (32.3%) athletes (χ2 = 8.677, P =.013). Multivariable linear regression found that AT on-field evaluation was a significant predictor of time to general health care presentation (β = −.085, P =.015) but not SRC clinic presentation (β = −.055, P =.099). History of prior concussions was a significant predictor of time to initial health care contact (β =.083, P =.018). History of anxiety and depression (β =.136, P <.001) and initial evaluation by emergency department or urgent care (β =.305, P <.001) were significant predictors of delayed time to SRC clinic presentation. Among 832 concussed youth athletes, female athletes were evaluated less frequently by an AT immediately after injury. Furthermore, not being evaluated by an AT on field was significantly associated with a longer time to health care presentation. The present study investigated whether distinct developmental patterns of externalizing behaviors (EBs: hyperactivity–impulsivity, noncompliance, physical aggression) based on parent reports were repeatedly and differentially associated with separate dimensions of internalizing problems such as general anxiety, separation anxiety, and depressive symptoms across the early, middle, and late preschool years in a population birth cohort (N = 2,057, 50.7% boys). Six high trajectory classes obtained by latent growth modeling were used as longitudinal indicators of single EB and co-occurrent EBs. Children following low or moderate trajectories for all EBs served as the reference class. Results revealed that children in trajectory classes reflecting high levels of co-occurring EBs showed higher levels of general anxiety, separation anxiety, and depressive symptoms across the preschool years. In contrast, children in trajectory classes reflecting single EB manifested higher levels of some, but not all, dimensions of internalizing problems. In addition, their scores varied from one period to another. No sex differences were observed in the above associations. These results underline the need for comprehensive assessments across distinct types of EBs and internalizing problems to better reflect the characteristics that distinguish individual children. Finally, results suggest that children showing early co-occurrent EBs and internalizing symptoms may be an important group to target for in-depth assessment and possibly preventive intervention. Public Significance Statement: Children who show a high level of externalizing behaviors (EB: hyperactivity–impulsivity, noncompliance, or physical aggression) from the early to late preschool years—and especially preschoolers with high levels of multiple EBs—also present higher levels of anxiety, separation anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Background: Alterations in the serum lipid profile have been suspected in many psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and depression. However, studies on lipid status in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are sparse and inconsistent. Methods: Using the nationwide, population-based IQVIA Disease Analyzer database, this retrospective cohort study included 5367 outpatients from general practices in Germany aged ≥18 years with a documented first diagnosis of ADHD between January 2005 and December 2021 and 26,835 propensity score-matched individuals without ADHD. Study outcomes were the first diagnosis of lipid metabolism disorders as a function of ADHD within up to 10 years of the index date. The cumulative 10-year incidence was analyzed using Kaplan–Meier curves and compared using the log-rank test. In addition, univariate Cox regression analyses were performed. Results: In the regression analysis, there was no significant association between ADHD and subsequent lipid metabolism disorders in the total population (HR: 0.94; 95% CI: 0.83–1.08), among women (HR: 1.04; 95% CI: 0.84–1.28), and among men (HR: 0.89; 95% CI: 0.74–1.06). In addition, no significant association was observed in the disease-stratified analyses. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that ADHD does not exert an influence on lipid metabolism. Youth with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) face challenges with road safety. While executive functions are developing in all young drivers, those diagnosed with ADHD have deficits in executive functions that are known to be important in driving. The aims of this study were to compare the executive functions and driving skills of adolescents identified with and without ADHD, and to evaluate whether a computerized cognitive training program is associated with improvement in executive functions (i.e., attention, working memory, inhibition) and driving skills. The hypotheses were: a) compared to a group of adolescents without ADHD, executive functions and driving skills of adolescents with ADHD will be poorer at pre-training; and b) while both groups will improve their executive function and driving skills after receiving the computerized cognitive training, the improvement will be greater in the ADHD group. This study used a quasi-experimental pre- and post-training control group design. Thirty adolescents aged 16 to 18 years with no prior driving experience participated in the study. Half (50 %) were diagnosed with ADHD and groups were matched by age. The Integrated Visual and Auditory (IVA-2) functional test was administered to insure proper inclusion in both groups. Twelve 45-minute sessions aimed at improving executive functioning were provided to both groups with the Captain's Log cognitive training software. Executive functioning was measured with cognitive tasks: attention with the Continuous Performance Task (CPT), working memory with the N-Back task, and inhibition with a Go/No Go task. Driving skills were appraised with a virtual reality driving task measuring speed management (mean, variability, percentage over the speed limit) and stopping (deceleration, and frequency of stopping at red traffic lights and pedestrian crosswalks). Executive functioning and driving skills were measured at pre- and post-training. Two repeated measures MANOVA were used to test the research hypotheses. Results from the IVA-2 confirmed group membership. At pre-training, the analyses showed that the ADHD group performed more poorly than the non-ADHD group on the CPT, N-Back, Go/No Go, and driving task (higher average driving speed, higher speed standard deviation and stopping less at red lights and crosswalks). At post-training, there was a significant improvement in executive functions and driving skills in both groups. Compared to the non-ADHD group, the cognitive training program was associated with stronger improvement in executive functions for the ADHD group. However, improvement in driving skills did not differ between groups. Results confirmed previous findings that computerized cognitive training is associated with greater improvement in executive functioning in adolescents diagnosed with ADHD than in non-ADHD individuals. Results also suggest that the training may have some potential to improve driving skills of both adolescents with and without ADHD in the pre-driving stage. Background: Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and Down syndrome (DS) significantly impact social, communicative, and behavioral functioning. Transcranial photobiomodulation (t-PBM) with near-infrared light is a promising non-invasive neurostimulation technique for neuropsychiatric disorders, including NDDs. This narrative review aimed to examine the preclinical and clinical evidence of photobiomodulation (PBM) in treating NDDs. Methods: A comprehensive search across six databases was conducted, using a combination of MeSH terms and title/abstract keywords: "photobiomodulation", "PBM", "neurodevelopmental disorders", "NDD", and others. Studies applying PBM to diagnosed NDD cases or animal models replicating NDDs were included. Protocols, reviews, studies published in languages other than English, and studies not evaluating clinical or cognitive outcomes were excluded. Results: Nine studies were identified, including one preclinical and eight clinical studies (five on ASD, two on ADHD, and one on DS). The reviewed studies encompassed various t-PBM parameters (wavelengths: 635–905 nm) and targeted primarily frontal cortex areas. t-PBM showed efficacy in improving disruptive behavior, social communication, cognitive rigidity, sleep quality, and attention in ASD; in enhancing attention in ADHD; and in improving motor skills and verbal fluency in DS. Minimal adverse effects were reported. Proposed mechanisms involve enhanced mitochondrial function, modulated oxidative stress, and reduced neuroinflammation. Conclusions: t-PBM emerges as a promising intervention for NDDs, with potential therapeutic effects across ASD, ADHD, and DS. These findings underscore the need for further research, including larger-scale, randomized sham-controlled clinical trials with comprehensive biomarker analyses, to optimize treatment parameters and understand the underlying mechanisms associated with the effects of t-PBM. The human body synthesizes catecholamine neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and noradrenaline. Monitoring the levels of these molecules is crucial for the prevention of important diseases, such as Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, Parkinson's, Huntington's, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and paragangliomas. Here, we have synthesized, characterized, and functionalized the BODIPY core with picolylamine (BDPy-pico) in order to create a sensor capable of detecting these biomarkers. The sensing properties of the BDPy-pico probe in solution were studied using fluorescence titrations and supported by DFT studies. Catecholamine sensing was also performed in the solid state by a simple strip test, using an optical fiber as the detector of emissions. To compare safety and efficacy of centanafadine versus methylphenidate hydrochloride extended release (ER; Concerta) in adults with ADHD. Without head-to-head trials, anchored matching-adjusted indirect comparisons (MAIC) of adverse event rates reported across trials and mean change from baseline in Adult ADHD Investigator Symptom Rating Scale (AISRS) score between centanafadine and methylphenidate hydrochloride ER were conducted. Pooled patient-level data from two centanafadine trials (NCT03605680/NCT03605836) and aggregate data from one published methylphenidate hydrochloride ER trial (NCT00937040) were used. Characteristics of individual patients from the centanafadine trials were matched to aggregate baseline characteristics from the methylphenidate hydrochloride ER trial using propensity score weighting. A sensitivity analysis assessed the robustness of the results to the capping of extreme weights (i.e. >99th percentile). Compared with methylphenidate hydrochloride ER, centanafadine was associated with significantly lower risk of dry mouth (risk difference [RD] in percentage points: −11.95), initial insomnia (−11.10), decreased appetite (−8.05), anxiety (−5.39), palpitations (−5.25), and feeling jittery (−4.73) though a significantly smaller reduction in AISRS score (4.16-point). In the sensitivity analysis, the safety results were consistent with the primary analysis but there was no significant difference in efficacy between centanafadine and methylphenidate hydrochloride ER. In this MAIC, centanafadine had better safety and possibly lower efficacy than methylphenidate hydrochloride ER. While safety results were robust across analyses, there was no efficacy difference between centanafadine and methylphenidate hydrochloride ER in the sensitivity analysis. Introduction: As adolescents leave high school, plans for the future are of great importance. Future orientation reflects positive thoughts regarding further education, employment, and family life. While future orientation has been found to affect behavior problems, the influence of behavior problems on future orientation is mainly unknown. Positive parent−child and peer relations may boost positive outlooks, but the interplay of behavior problems and social relations for future orientation remains to be studied. Methods: Participants were 485 adolescents, 54% girls, living in Mid‐Sweden. At age 15, parents and adolescents rated ADHD‐ and internalizing symptoms, parents rated ODD‐symptoms, and adolescents rated their relationship with parents and peers. At age 18, adolescents rated future orientation regarding education, employment, and family, and reported on delinquent acts. Results: Low levels of inattention symptoms and of delinquency were important for all higher future orientation aspects. In contrast, higher levels of hyperactive‐impulsive symptoms were associated with more positive outlooks on work and family life. Relationships with parents and peers were stronger predictors of future outlooks, compared with behavior problems. There were few interaction effects of behavioral symptoms and social relationship quality. Conclusions: Behavior problems in middle adolescence may negatively affect future outlooks. However, positive social relations, especially relations with peers, seem more important for optimistic views than behavior problems and thus may have a compensatory effect. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders worldwide. Recent studies show that machine learning has great potential for the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The aim of the present article is to systematically review the scientific literature on machine learning studies for the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, focusing on psychometric questionnaire tools. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were adopted. The review protocol was registered in the PROSPERO database. A search was conducted in three databases—Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus and Pubmed—with the aim of identifying studies that apply ML techniques to support the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. A total of 17 empirical studies were found that met the established inclusion criteria. The results showed that machine learning can be used to increase the accuracy of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder diagnosis. Provided the significant overlap in features of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), there is a critical need to identify transdiagnostic markers that could meaningfully stratify subgroups. The objective of this study was to compare the visual evoked potential (VEP) between 30 autistic children, 17 autistic children with co-occurring ADHD presentation (ASD + ADHD), and 21 neurotypical children (NTC). Electroencephalography was recorded while children passively viewed a pattern-reversal stimulus. Mean amplitude of the P1 event-related potential was extracted from a midline occipital channel and compared between groups. P1 mean amplitude was reduced in the ASD + ADHD group compared to the ASD and NTC groups, indicating a distinct pattern of brain activity in autistic children with co-occurring ADHD features. Background: Executive function is a high‐level set of cognitive processes related to goal‐directed behaviors including two conceptual subtypes of hot (emotional) and cold (cognitive) executive function (to abbreviate EF). EF deficits in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) leads to significant social impairments in the home, school, and community. Today the type and the extent of executive function defects in ADHD are still debated in studies. We aimed to evaluate hot and cold executive function among medication‐naive children with ADHD, with and without oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Methods: Forty‐five children including suffering ADHD with ODD (n = 15), without ODD (n = 15), or typically developed (TD, n = 15) participated in this cross‐sectional study (the age of children was between 7 and 12 years old). The Child Symptom Inventory‐4 (CSI‐4) was used to screen behavioral and emotional symptoms. Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale‐Revised‐Digit Span Task (WAIS‐R‐DST), Corsi Block Task (CBT), and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) were used for assessing cold executive function. Assessing hot executive function was done with Delay Discounting Task (DDT) and Iowa Gambling Task (IGT). Results: Evaluating the cold executive function, total WAIS‐R‐DST score, Backward DST, total CBT score, and Backward CBT were significantly lower among ADHD than TD groups (p < 0.05). Assessing the hot executive function showed that the score of DDT and IGT was significantly lower among ADHD than TD groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Both hot and cold executive functions are defective in children with ADHD, while the comorbid of ODD has no significant effect. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with and without subclinical epileptogenic discharges (SED) have been suggested to negatively affect cognitive abilities of children with ADHD. The role of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its precursor proBDNF in ADHD is in need of being investigated. The aims were to evaluate the levels of serum BDNF, proBDNF and the proBDNF/BDNF ratio in addition to the potential impacts of SED on the children's cognitive abilities and the severity of ADHD. The included participants with ADHD were 30 children with normal electroencephalogram (EEG) (G1) and 30 children with SED (G2), together with 30 healthy children (G3). The cognitive abilities and severity of the disorder were evaluated. The biochemical measures were determined by ELISA. The presence of coexisting SED and nocturnal enuresis has led to a deleterious effect on cognitive processes but not on the severity. The focal epileptogenic discharge was the most common among children in G2. The levels of BDNF in Groups 1 and 2 were less than those in G3. The higher proBDNF/BDNF ratio could be related to the low BDNF levels rather than high proBDNF levels. The findings of this study highlight the importance of investigating the presence of SED and nocturnal enuresis in children with ADHD. Targeting strengthening of cognitive abilities in children with coexisting ADHD and SED is advised. The role of proBDNF in the pathophysiology of ADHD needs further investigation. This article is a response to a previous meta-analysis on the prevalence of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among adults in prison. The authors of the response defend their decision to only include studies with unselected samples of adult prisoners, excluding samples that exclusively consisted of people with psychiatric disorders or solely those with violent index offenses. They argue that including selected samples would inflate the prevalence of ADHD. They also criticize a re-analysis of the prevalence of ADHD in detained adults, stating that the included studies were not representative of the general prison population. Background: Fazel and Favril presented a reanalysis of our previously published systematic review and meta‐analysis on the prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in prison. Aims: The current paper addresses some of the criticisms of Fazel and Favril on our meta‐analysis and presents a reanalysis of the data, focusing on adult detained persons. Methods: We conducted a meta—regression on 28 studies (n = 7710) to estimae the pooled prevalence of ADHD. Results: This reanalysis yielded a pooled estimate of 22.2% for the prevalence of ADHD (95% confidence interval [CI]: 15.7; 28.6), which disagrees with the estimate given by Fazel and Favril (8.3%, 95% CI: 3.8; 12.8). Conclusion: We argue that the ADHD prevalence provided by Fazel and Favril was an underestimate due to their use of too restrictive exclusion criteria and suboptimal analysis methods. Children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have difficulties in social interactions. Studying brain activity during social interactions is difficult with conventional artificial stimuli. This pioneering study examined the neural correlates of social perception in children with ADHD and matched controls using naturalistic stimuli. We presented 20 children with ADHD and 20 age-and-sex-matched controls with tailored movies featuring high- or low-level social interactions while recording electroencephalographic signals. Both groups exhibited synchronized gamma-band oscillations, but controls demonstrated greater inter-subject correlations. Additionally, the difference in inter-subject correlations between high- and low-interaction movies was significantly larger in controls compared to ADHD patients. Between 55 and 75 Hz comparing viewing high interaction movies with low interaction moves, controls had a significantly larger weighting in the right parietal lobe, while ADHD patients had a significantly smaller weighting in the left occipital lobe. These findings reveal distinct spatiotemporal neural signatures in social interaction processing among children with ADHD and controls using naturalistic stimuli. Purpose: Almost 20% of children and adolescents who attend in mental health centres are witnesses of domestic violence (WDVs). It would therefore be clinically useful to have an appropriate screening instrument for this population, such as the PTSD-CBCL. Our aim here was thus to assess the psychometric properties of relevant tools by determining their internal consistency, sensitivity/specificity, and positive/negative predictive values in our centre's population. Methods: We recruited 194 parents of children aged 4–16 at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and Els Pins primary school. This sample was divided into: (1) a WDV group (n = 104); (2) an ADHD diagnosis group (n = 28); and (3) a general population (GP) primary school group (n = 62). Results: The PTSD-CBCL total reliability score was high (Cronbach's alpha = 0.87). We found significant mean difference for WDV vs. GP (MD = 8.57; p < 0.001) with significantly higher mean scores in WDV than in GP. We also found significant differences for ADHD vs. GP (MD = 6.91; p < 0.001) with higher mean scores in ADHD than in GP. We observed good discriminatory power indices in the following group comparisons: WDV vs. GP, ADHD vs. GP, WDV vs. ADHD + GP, and GP vs. WDV + ADHD. Nevertheless, the PTSD-CBCL did not discriminate WDV vs. ADHD. Conclusions: Thus, we conclude that the PTSD-CBCL instrument has good discriminatory power in general and clinical populations, and could be implemented in the context of prevention and early intervention after trauma. Childhood externalizing psychopathology is heterogeneous. Symptom variability in conduct disorder (CD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and callous–unemotional (CU) traits designate different subgroups of children with externalizing problems who have specific treatment needs. However, CD, ODD, ADHD, and CU traits are highly comorbid. Studies need to generate insights into shared versus unique risk mechanisms, including through the use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). In this study, we tested whether symptoms of CD, ODD, ADHD, and CU traits were best represented within a bifactor framework, simultaneously modeling shared (i.e., general externalizing problems) and unique (i.e., symptom-specific) variance, or through a four-correlated factor or second-order factor model. Participants (N = 11,878, age, M = 9 years) were from the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development Study. We used questionnaire and functional magnetic resonance imaging data (emotional N-back task) from the baseline assessment. A bifactor model specifying a general externalizing and specific CD, ODD, ADHD, and CU traits factors demonstrated the best fit. The four-correlated and second-order factor models both fit the data well and were retained for analyses. Across models, reduced right amygdala activity to fearful faces was associated with more general externalizing problems and reduced dorsolateral prefrontal cortex activity to fearful faces was associated with higher CU traits. ADHD scores were related to greater right nucleus accumbens activation to fearful and happy faces. Results give insights into risk mechanisms underlying comorbidity and heterogeneity within externalizing psychopathology. General Scientific Summary: Decreased amygdala reactivity to fearful emotion faces may represent a general neural risk marker for externalizing psychopathology. The use of first-line drugs in clinical practice for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is limited by their adverse effects. Many novel monoamine reuptake inhibitors (MRIs) with better safety profiles and comparable efficacy are also being tried for ADHD. This network meta-analysis (NMA) has evaluated the efficacy and safety of MRIs in ADHD. The data was extracted from 31 relevant clinical trials after a literature search on MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane databases, and clinical trial registries. Quality assessment was performed using the risk of bias assessment tool (RoB2) by Cochrane Collaboration, and the random-effects model was used to estimate the effect size. Standardised mean difference (SMD) and 95% credible interval(95%CrI) were reported for the reduction in ADHD rating scale score. Network geometry was visualised, and node splitting was done for the closed triangles. Meta-regression was done for the duration of therapy. PRISMA-NMA guidelines were followed in selecting, analyzing, and reporting findings. The drugs showing significant reduction on the ADHD rating scale as compared to placebo are bupropion (SMD: 0.33; 95%CrI: 0.60,-0.059), dasotraline(SMD: 0.49; 95%CrI: 0.82,-0.16), venlafaxine(SMD: 0.71; 95%CrI: 1.3,-0.15), viloxazine(SMD: 0.45; 95%CrI: 0.77,-0.12). Other drugs (centanafadine, duloxetine, edivoxetine, reboxetine, tipepidine, vortioxetine) were no better than placebo in reducing symptom severity of ADHD. The efficacy of none of the drugs was found to be significantly different as compared to methylphenidate. Among all, duloxetine (OR:15; 95%CrI:1.8130) showed significantly more treatment-emergent adverse events than methylphenidate. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder associated with brain differences in children, but not in adults. A combined evaluation of the regional brain differences could improve statistical power and, consequently, allow the detection of possible effects in adults. Thus, our aim is to verify whether Neuroimaging Association Scores (NAS) are associated with adulthood ADHD and clinical trajectories of the disorder in midlife. Clinical and neuroimaging data were collected for 121 subjects with ADHD (mean age: 47.1 ± 10.5; 43% male) and 82 controls (mean age: 38.2 ± 9.0; 54.9% male). Cases were assessed seven and thirteen years after baseline diagnosis, and their clinical trajectories were classified as stable if they fulfilled ADHD diagnosis in all assessments or unstable if they presented remission and recurrence of symptoms. Neuroimaging data were acquired in the last clinical assessment (thirteen years after baseline) and NAS were calculated as a weighted sum of the associations previously reported by meta-analyses for three types of structural brain modalities: cortical thickness, cortical surface area, and subcortical volume. The NAS for cortical surface area was higher in cases compared to controls. No association was found for NAS and number of symptoms of ADHD or clinical trajectories. The fact that differences were restricted to ADHD diagnostic status suggests a susceptibility effect that is not extended to subtle aspects of the disorder.
