The increasing adoption of algorithmic technologies in newsrooms and the ensuing profound transformations in journalism have led to a considerable surge in scholarly research. However, a systematic understanding of the developments within the field of algorithm-driven journalism, which encompasses all application areas of automation and artificial intelligence technologies in journalism, is currently lacking. To this end, this study aims to bridge the existing academic gap by mapping the research landscape of algorithm-driven journalism through an exploratory qualitative and quantitative systematic literature review (2011–2022) that investigates the full spectrum of English-language articles published in peer-reviewed journals across ten databases within the disciplines of communication studies and computer science. The originality of this study relies on its mixed-method and interdisciplinary approach to scrutinising the widespread integration of algorithmic systems in journalism, which has not been systematically synthesised to date. Building upon the results obtained from a corpus of 348 articles, this study (1) provides insights into the characteristics of authorship, (2) identifies research trends, and (3) synthesises potential research directions addressed by scholars. Neurological disorders are characterized by high mortality and disability rates. Furthermore, the burden associated with disability and mortality resulting from neurological disorders has been increasing at an alarming rate. Botanical drugs and their bioactive components have emerged as a prominent area of research, offering a promising avenue for developing novel alternatives for treating neurological diseases. Gastrodin is the principal active component derived from the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Gastrodia elata Blume (GEB). Existing literature reveals that gastrodin exerts various pharmacological protective actions against neurological disorders. This review aimed to collate novel literature on gastrodin for treating neurological disorders from Web of Science, PubMed, Embase and CNKI. The pharmacokinetics of gastrodin, its therapeutic role in neurological disorders, the main mechanisms of action and clinical application were addressed. Furthermore, a detailed overview of gastrodin drug delivery systems and physical enhancement methods was presented, offering invaluable insights into potential research and the extensive applications of gastrodin. Purpose: Although many studies have investigated the link between abusive supervision and employee organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), most of them have been performed in isolation, resulting in inconsistent findings and a lack of a systematic structure for understanding how abusive supervision affects OCB. Building on the conservation of resources theory, this study aims to investigate the impact of abusive supervision on OCB through the mediating role of burnout. Additionally, the moderating influence of workplace friendship on the link between abusive supervision and burnout was examined. Design/methodology/approach: We used data from a two-wave survey of 316 employees with a time interval of 4 weeks. We conducted a mediated moderation analysis to test our model using PROCESS (Hayes, 2013), a statistical macro for SPSS, to examine moderated mediation models' direct and indirect effects. Findings: The findings revealed that burnout completely mediated the association between abusive supervision and OCB. Additionally, workplace friendships strengthen employees' social networks, providing them with increased resources and support when facing abusive supervision compared to those lacking such friendships. The results have both theoretical and practical implications, which are discussed. Originality/value: First, this study examined the moderating role of workplace friendship and the mediating role of burnout in the relationship between abusive supervision and OCB. This is a novel contribution to the literature, as previous research has not examined these factors. We re-examine the tourism-growth relationship to interrogate the role of the exchange rate as a future driver of the nexus. Using quarterly data on Sri Lanka from 1995 to 2018, preliminary tests reveal a long-run association among economic growth, tourism expenditures and the official exchange rate. Conclusions drawn from the linear models suggest that a percentage change in tourism expenditures contributes to an increase (between 0.46% and 0.52%) in growth. Likewise, the interaction with the exchange rate improves economic growth more so at the conditional distribution of economic growth (50th and 75th quartile). Additional evidence from the margin plot reveals that the effect of tourism on economic growth is positive as the Sri Lankan Rupee depreciates. From the non-linear models, the influence of the exchange rate improves the net effect of tourism on growth. These are novel contributions to the literature as it suggests that currency depreciation in Sri Lanka is pro-growth. Policy recommendations are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Telecommunication systems can only function properly with standards that ensure interoperability. Consequently, these standards shape the systems. However, the European Commission (EC) is concerned that foreign (e.g. Chinese) companies are influencing and shaping European telecommunications through their participation in committees of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). The EC wants ETSI to ban non-European firms from co-deciding about critical standards. This paper discusses the EC’s concerns by examining ETSI’s practices from a historical perspective and discussing the concept of legitimacy. Our findings demonstrate that this ban is unsuitable for reaching the EC’s objectives. We develop an alternative by separating decisions about standards to be used in Europe from ETSI’s standard development process. This way, ETSI can continue to involve companies from China and other countries outside Europe, but there will be an additional step for acceptance of telecommunications standards: Europeans will decide which standards to adopt, using value-based criteria. This approach would address the EC’s concerns much better than the solutions they originally envisioned, while still allowing ETSI to maintain its global relevance. This approach is novel in the literature on standardization. Purpose: In modern societies, consumer well-being is dependent on choices regarding complex services, such as investments, health care, insurance and lending. However, evaluating costs of such services is often difficult for consumers due to a combination of limited cognitive resources and complexity of the service. The purpose of this study is to empirically examine to what extent three specific consequences of complexity influence consumer tendencies to make mistakes when evaluating the costs (or price) of complex services. Design/methodology/approach: Three studies were conducted (survey: n = 153, experiment: n = 332 and conjoint analysis: n = 225), all focusing on how consumers evaluate costs in the complex mutual fund setting. Findings: The authors find that consumers struggle with estimating and using cost information in decision-making in the complex services setting. Consumers of complex services frequently underestimate the costs over the long-term, may see costs as a signal of service quality and are susceptible to influence from presentation formats when evaluating costs. Research limitations/implications: The study investigates mutual funds, which is one example of a complex service. In order to get a full picture of how consumers deal with costs in complex setting, future research needs to expand this focus to other types of complex services. Practical implications: The results have implications for both marketers of complex services and policymakers. For marketers, this paper highlights that competing with a low-cost strategy may be difficult in the complex services setting as consumers may lack the ability to actually evaluate what they pay over the long term. For policymakers, increased simplification of prices may be an attractive option. However, it is important that this simplification is done in a way that increases the possibility to compare prices. Originality/value: As complexity influences several aspects of decision-making, an understanding of how consumers evaluate costs in complex settings is dependent on taking a multidimensional research approach. This paper makes a novel contribution to the literature on pricing by showing that consumers struggle with multiple aspects when evaluating costs in complex contexts. While often described as a significant part of David Foster Wallace's contribution to American culture, his essays highlight some of the author's principles and values when it comes to American fiction, entertainment and the general status quo of American society in the 1990s and 2000s. There are several essays where Wallace discusses literary works, from Franz Kafka and Zbigniew Herbert to John Updike and Cormac McCarthy, as well as essays based on the evolution of American fiction at the turn of the millennium. Based on a selected corpus of essays from three of his essay collections – A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again, Consider the Lobster and Both Flesh and Not – the purpose of the paper is to highlight and discuss the ways in which Wallace analyses and understands literature not just as a writer, but also as an essayist and reviewer. Cardiac hydatid cysts (CHC) are rare complications of echinococcosis, often presenting diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report a case of recurrent CHC in a 35‐year‐old male with a history of cerebral and pelvic hydatid cysts. Diagnostic imaging revealed significant cardiac involvement, necessitating surgical intervention. Postoperative management included a combination of albendazole and praziquantel, resulting in marked improvement during follow‐up. This case highlights the complexities of treating recurrent CHC and suggests that combination therapy may offer benefits in managing extensive cysts. Every day, officers working at international airports investigate potential risks to state safety and security. But how do they decide who they can trust, and also ensure that the broader public trusts them to conduct this work? This article explores these questions through an examination of the reality television show Border Security: Australia's Front Line. Through critical discourse analysis of a collection of 108 televised airport encounters, we explore the aspects of communication, behaviour, and identity made salient in officers' evaluations of passengers' credibility and critically examine the assumptions underlying them. Further, we consider how power and role divisions are implicated in the construction of passenger and officer credibility, both within border encounters and in discourses about them. Our analysis makes a novel contribution to the literature on credibility assessments in intercultural communication, demonstrating how an institutional and social 'culture of disbelief' is constructed vis‐à‐vis certain groups through seemingly banal border work. This study investigates the impact of board characteristics on the relationship between political connections and cash holdings in Asian countries. The findings suggest that Asian firms with political connections, large boards, and gender diversity have lower cash holdings, while firms with CEO duality have higher cash holdings. Further, the study provides unique evidence that Asian firms with large boards and gender diversity have a moderating effect and strengthen the negative influence of political connections on cash holdings. We also find that CEO duality moderates the influence of political connections on cash holdings in Asian countries. The authors conclude that strong board monitoring and governance mechanisms are crucial for the effective use of cash, particularly in firms with political connections. This research contributes to the literature by presenting novel evidence that board characteristics critically influence the relationship between political connections and cash holdings in the Asian context. This essay ponders on reading based on Jogo de Cena. Following a perspective built on the Literary Studies field, three objectives are established: (1) examine the literary aspect of the film in simultaneity to its commodity character; (2) search for an understanding of how fiction and nonfiction are disposed in Coutinho's film; and (3) approach what could be understood as transparent and opaque in that work. Attaining those goals is a manner of approaching an issue related to the apparent waning of the distinction between fiction and nonfiction caused by media, to the impoverishment of fiction in literature, and its spread in daily life. This discussion searches for contributions to cinema, theater, and literature studies. It involves reviewing publications on that film, a description of the work, and some theoretical references from the fields mentioned previously, including the formalist notion of literariness related to the presence of narrative, dramatic, and poetic elements in works beyond literature. Starting with a close reading of that descriptive study and the selection of excerpts from the film, a discussion confronts the analysis with some bibliographical sources. The results are as follows: (1) it is not possible to categorize Jogo de Cena in terms of being just a commodity or an artistic work; (2) reading narratives should consider the simultaneity of fiction and nonfiction; (3) apparent transparency takes the reader directly outward the work while its opacity, endowed with literariness, plunges the reader in the materiality of the film where historicity is present among the work, the author, the reader, and the world. Purpose: Drawing on person-job fit theory, this study examined the link between perceived overqualification (POQ), professional isolation, psychological strain and goldbricking behaviour. We also investigated the moderating influence of employee career self-management on the association between the POQ and professional isolation. Design/methodology/approach: A time-lagged data approach were used to collect data from service sector organisations. The study model was analysed using PLS-SEM. Findings: The results show that POQ is positively related to goldbricking behaviour. Professional isolation and psychological strain mediate the link between POQ and employee goldbricking behaviour. The mediated relationship between POQ and goldbricking behaviour through professional isolation was moderated by employee career self-management. Originality/value: This research contributes to the existing literature by examining the novel concept of goldbricking behaviour in the context of person-job fit theory. The originality of this study lies in its nuanced investigation of the mediating role of professional isolation and psychological strain in the relationship between POQ and goldbricking behaviour. This study presents a rare comparative analysis of the factors influencing environmental quality through greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the European Union member states' largest economies, i.e., France and Germany. By considering the unique economic, energy, and environmental characteristics of both countries, the finding unveils a novel perspective in the literature. The research utilizes a recently developed wavelet local multiple correlation (WLMC) technique with quarterly dataset spanning from 1990/Q1 to 2020/Q4. The results demonstrate that environmental-related information and communication technologies innovations, energy transition, and financial development play significant roles in limiting the growth of GHGs emission, particularly in the medium and long term. The wavelet-based Granger causality analysis reveals evidence of feedback causality among the variables in both countries in the medium and long term. Moreover, there are slight differences in the short-term relationships given that the observations are generally similar in later period. Overall, the findings offer a deeper understanding and policy insights regarding the time and frequency dynamics of GHG drivers in France and Germany. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, considerable literature has grown up around the theme of possible worlds as a new way of understanding literary texts. The main thrust of Possible Worlds Theory lies within the world-creating power of the reader's imagination. Despite a considerable amount of literature on Possible Worlds Theory, investigating the consistent correlation between this theory and rhetorical devices such as intertextuality and metaphor still seems a productive endeavour. What remains unclear is how intertextual references and metaphors trigger alternative possible worlds, which may or may not be consistent with an actual world. In this regard, employing Ryan's Possible Worlds Theory (1991), this paper seeks to unravel the underlying possible worlds of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale (1985) by tracing its rhetorical devices, which develop the main idea of the novel. Additionally, a significant feature of postmodernist writing, i.e. 'fiction within fiction,' is examined to assess characterization. ABSTRACT Shprintzen‐Goldberg‐syndrome (SGS) is caused by pathogenic exon 1 variants of SKI. Symptoms include dysmorphic features, skeletal and cardiovascular comorbidities, and cognitive and developmental impairments. We delineated the neurodevelopmental and behavioral features of SGS, as they are not well‐documented. We collected physician‐reported data of people with molecularly confirmed SGS through an international collaboration. We identified and deep‐phenotyped the neurodevelopmental and behavioral features in four patients. Within our cohort, all exhibited developmental delays in motor skills and/or speech, with the average age of first words at 2 years and 6 months and independent walking at 3 years and 5 months. All four had learning disabilities and difficulties regulating emotions and behavior. Intellectual disability, ranging from borderline to moderate, was present in all four participants. Moreover, we reviewed the literature and identified 52 additional people with SGS, and summarized the features across both datasets. Mean age was 23 years (9–48 years). When combining our cohort and reported cases, we found that 80% (45/56) had developmental and/or cognitive impairment, with the remainder having normal intelligence. Our study elucidates the developmental, cognitive, and behavioral features in participants with SGS and contributes to a better understanding of this rare condition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Belligerents increasingly rely on media manipulation, propaganda, and communication to attain strategic advantages in conflict. Given the civilian propagandists' clear role in creating tactical or strategic advantages for one side in the conflict, should these propagandists be considered combatants, and can they therefore be legitimately targeted because of their activities? This article overcomes traditional binary frameworks of distinction to argue that propagandists are indirectly participating civilians, i.e. participants who cannot be intentionally or directly killed in conflict. Because of their activities, propagandists, it argues, are liable to less-than-lethal harm, of which it identifies three types (destruction of property, privation of liberty, isolation). The article then proposes a necessary criterion – necessity – to decide if less-than-lethal harm is warranted against propagandists. It then creates four new criteria – denial of agency, falsehood, influence, gratification – to serve as assessment criteria able to decide what degree of harm a propagandist may maximally face. In making this argument, the article contributes to just war literature by proposing a novel way to evaluate the ethical status of a highly diverse, yet undoubtedly influential, category of war participants: those who undertake the 'media battle', outside of the military. Covering: 2019 to 2023 Isoquinoline alkaloids, an important class of N-based heterocyclic compounds, have attracted considerable attention from researchers worldwide. To follow up on our prior review (covering 2014–2018) and present the progress of this class of compounds, this review summarizes and provides updated literature on novel isoquinoline alkaloids isolated during the period of 2019–2023, together with their biological activity and underlying mechanisms of action. Moreover, with the rapid development of synthetic modification strategies, the synthesis strategies of isoquinoline alkaloids have been continuously optimized, and the total synthesis of these classes of natural products is reviewed critically herein. Over 250 molecules with a broad range of bioactivities, including antitumor, antibacterial, cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and other activities, are isolated and discussed. The total synthesis of more than nine classes of isoquinoline alkaloids is presented, and thirteen compounds constitute the first total synthesis. This survey provides new indications or possibilities for the discovery of new drugs from the original naturally occurring isoquinoline alkaloids. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Innovation continues to be a strategic priority of corporate competitiveness. Despite there is a sizable body of research that addresses how innovations influence various business outcomes, little is known as to whether and how process and product innovation may fuel/hinder the supply chain strategic fit (SCSF) and the business performance of focal small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Employing structural equation modelling on data collected from 258 Korean SMEs, we find that both process and product innovations positively impact SCSF, and that improved SCSF positively influences on SME performance. Our study also suggests a non-monotonic contingency effect of environmental uncertainty on the relationship between SME innovation and SCSF. Specifically, we find that environmental uncertainty strengthens the positive effect of process innovation on SCSF but weakens the positive impact of product innovation on SCSF. Our study contributes to the innovation and supply chain management literature with novel theoretical and managerial knowledge on how to manage innovation and SCSF under different environmental conditions. Italy is the only 'Big Four' European country and 'Quint' North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member ostensibly uninterested in the world's geopolitical and geoeconomic epicentre. However, a number of developments contradict the assumption that Rome overlooks the importance of the Indo-Pacific. By analysing official policies, naval deployments, new partnerships and evolving trajectories, this article reveals that Italy's strategic engagement with the Indo-Pacific is already significant and unfolding under three broad areas: (a) economy ; (b) security ; and (c) norms. It then assesses the benefits and risks of this developing foreign policy, and argues that the former outweigh the latter, a condition which is conducive to the establishment of an official Italian Indo-Pacific strategy. As the first scholarly work on the Italian role in the Indo-Pacific, this research makes a novel contribution to the literature on both Italian foreign policy and the Indo-Pacific security landscape, by investigating a complementary approach to that of existing Indo-Pacific strategies. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop a typology of heuristics in business relationships. We distinguish between four categories: (1) general heuristics used in the context of a business relationship but that may also (and are often) used in other contexts; (2) relational context heuristics that are typically used in a relational context; (3) relational information heuristics that rely on relational information and (4) genuine relational heuristics that use relational information and are applied in relational contexts. Design/methodology/approach: We draw on existing literature on heuristics and business relationships to inform our conceptual paper. Findings: We apply this typology and discuss specific heuristics that fall under the different categories of our typology. These include word-of-mouth, tit-for-tat, imitation, friendliness, recognition and trust. Research limitations/implications: We contribute to the heuristics literature by providing a novel typology of heuristics in business relationships. Emphasizing the interdependence between heuristics and business relationships, we identify genuine relational heuristics that capture the bidirectional relationships between business relationships and heuristics. Second, we contribute to the business relationships literature by providing a conceptual framework for understanding the types of heuristics managers use in business relationships and by discussing examples of specific heuristics and how they are applied in relational contexts. Practical implications: We contribute to practice by providing a simple framework for making sense out of the "universe" of heuristics for business relationships. When claims emerged that Ümit Deniz’s Murat Davman crime fiction series (1956–1974) was an adaptation of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer series (1946–1996), they were quickly debunked. The claims, however, prompted questions about whether Deniz’ series may be an adaptation of other novels Deniz translated into Turkish. This article reads Deniz’ corpus with the tools of intertextuality and translation theory and characterizes his series as both a concealed translation/global adaptation of the Hammer series, other novels and an original work. In so doing, it brings together hitherto distinct disciplines and offers a revised constructive interpretation of the East–West relationship when it comes to discussion of the circulation of texts, which is usually structured by assumptions of the incompetency and backwardness of the East and the perceived superiority of the West. The domination problem and three of its variants (total domination, 2-domination, and secure domination) are considered. These problems have various real-world applications, including error correction codes, ad hoc routing for wireless networks, and social network analysis, among others. However, each of them is NP-hard to solve to provable optimality, making fast heuristics for these problems desirable. There are a wealth of highly developed heuristics and approximation algorithms for the domination problem; however, such heuristics are much less common for variants of the domination problem. We redress this gap in the literature by proposing a novel implementation of the cross-entropy method that can be applied to any sensible variant of domination. We present results from experiments that demonstrate that this approach can produce good results in an efficient manner even for larger graphs and that it works roughly as well for any of the domination variants considered. Aims: While research on syntactic L1 attrition has largely focused on interface phenomena (e.g., overt pronouns in null-subject languages), attrition has also been reported to affect syntactic parsing. This paper extends previous work by looking at the attrition of (pseudo)relative clause parser biases in L1-Italian L2-English speakers. This was done to investigate whether previous findings of attrition in the interpretation of ambiguous relative clauses can be accounted for by changes to the parsing of pseudorelatives. Method: To tap parser biases, we conducted a sentence interpretation task in Italian with ambiguous items. Within these items, pseudorelative availability was manipulated. Participants consisted of two groups of adult native Italian speakers: one living in Italy and one living in an English-speaking country. Data analysis: Responses from the sentence interpretation task were subjected to a mixed-effects logistic regression. Findings: Results indicated a global effect of attrition resulting in more low attachment interpretations. This did not interact with pseudorelative availability. Originality: We take this to be a novel contribution to the literature for two reasons. First, our results extend previous results from Spanish–English bilinguals to a new language pair. Second, we believe that this is the first study to investigate attrition of relative clause attachment biases in light of Grillo and Costa's, Pseudorelative-First Hypothesis. Once this is taken into consideration, we argue that attrition of parser biases is not due to a loss of a global high attachment bias under pressure from the L2, but a strengthening of a low attachment bias already present in the L1. Implications: Results suggest that future work on attrition should look beyond conflicts in parser biases between a bilingual's languages and raise the possibility that attrition affects attachment biases in other contexts. INTRODUCTION: Wedescribe female authorship trends in gastroenterology (GI) randomized controlled trial literature as a novel focus on gender bias in academic GI. METHODS: Using a systematic PubMed search, we extracted GI randomized controlled trial reports published from 2011 to 2022. We describe time trends in proportions of females among first and last authors overall and within GI subspecialties and high-impact journals. RESULTS: The proportion of females increased from 25.4%to 36.8%and from 14.3%to 24.8% among first and last authors, respectively. Smaller increases in female authorship occurred in most subgroups, although there were proportionately fewer females among authors in high-impact journals and advanced therapeutic endoscopy publications. DISCUSSION: Over the past decade, female authorship in GI RCT reports has increased. However, female representation, particularly among senior authors and in high-impact journals, remains significantly lower. Comparative literature expounds on the areas of convergence in literature and reproduces the cultural similarities between East and West, demonstrating its results in guiding literary and intellectual renewal movements. Arabic literature takes advantage of the works of literature of other nations and is always keen to develop and enrich its awareness and culture. As the novel is a celebrated genre used in the comparative literature area, the Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz, well-known as the Dickens of Egypt, is one of the key poles of the international Arab novel. Mahfouz's novels and short stories convey Cairo, the capital of Egypt, its neighborhoods, inhabitants, and groceries to the home of every reader. The images and representations of Cairo drawn by Mahfouz are compared to the masters of English literature, namely Charles Dickens who significantly impacted Mahfouz's writings, especially his great love for describing and depicting everything his eyes see. With appropriating a comparative study of Dickens’s and Mahfouz’s selected works, this paper examines the concept of “description as a fiction-writing mode” as reflected in two literary works—Dickens’s David Copperfield (1850) and Mahfouz’s Midaq Alley (1947) following the School of Comparative Literature based on the principle of similarity in its study and analysis of literary works. The manuscript introduces the concept of a double-composed metric-like space, which is an extension of the notion of a double-composed metric space. In this new space, the self-distance is not necessarily zero, but if the distance metric equals zero, it must be for identical points of distance. Furthermore, this paper presents several results related to this novel concept in the literature, with a particular focus on Hardy–Rogers type contractions. It establishes fixed point theorems accompanied by some illustrative examples that elucidate the findings. Through bibliometric analysis, this paper aimed at facilitating stakeholders like researchers, academicians, and policy makers in addressing the emerging concept of subjective well-being of entrepreneurs in the turbulent times like COVID-19 pandemic. Scopus database has been used as a source of data. Performance analysis and science mapping have been applied on 127 published documents retrieved from Scopus. The different aspects focused by the present research were publication output, country collaboration map, sub-network of publication countries, co-occurrence of keywords, citation of authors, contributing authors, co-citation of authors, and co-citation of journals. By applying text mining technique, 6 clusters were identified followed by mapping the trend topics in the area. The focus on addressing subjective well-being of entrepreneurs during the times of crisis like COVID-19 is a novel contribution to the literature. In order to enhance the generalizability and reliability of the results, bibliometrics was performed with the application of two highly effective tools, i.e., VOSviewer and Biblioshiny, which is a value addition to the existing research. Reading is a key skill for university students. The Author Recognition Test (ART) and the Title Recognition Test (TRT) have both been used for decades to measure print exposure which correlates with reading and other linguistic skills. Given the available evidence for interindividual differences in reading skills, this study addresses three open issues. First, to what extent do ART and TRT scores correlate with individual differences regarding students' study programs? Second, how do these results correlate with the self-reported time spent reading different types of text genres (e.g., fiction, nonfiction) per week? And third, this study compares ART and TRT to one another. We tested students from six study programs in the humanities and (medical) sciences which vary in the amount and kind of reading material required for study success. We found that students perform significantly differently in the ART and the TRT depending on their field of study. Students in a study program focusing on fiction and literature perform best overall. We also replicated the well-known effect of age on ART and TRT scores: older students have better scores. We did not find reliable effects of reading time on test performance, whereas individual creative writing habits did positively predict ART/TRT test results. These results raise a number of important questions regarding the ART/TRT in general and regarding interindividual differences in personal reading and writing habits and the change in reading habits in times of media convergence. The examination of the cinematic capacities of literary works has been seriously considered by researchers for nearly a decade. The novel bears a striking resemblance to the screenplay, and most cinematic adaptations are based on novels. Youssef Zeidan is among the writers whose novels exhibit many visual capabilities for adaptation in cinema. In the present study, an attempt has been made to analyze the text of the story Fardkan: Sheikh in Prison using a descriptive-analytical method and an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on the three-act structure of Syd Field and cinematic form. Our goal in this research is to explore the structure and content of the mentioned novel and to demonstrate its adaptation aspects from various angles. The results of this research indicate that this novel, due to its cinematic structure, attention to detail, scene setting, and dramatic dialogues, as well as its sequencing capabilities, possesses ample potential for cinematic adaptation and screenplay writing. The International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS Convention) or HS, which seeks to establish uniform rules for the classification of products for customs and indirect tax purposes, is considered a resounding success. Its main objective is to ensure that a given product is classified in the same way in all World Customs Organization (WCO) member countries. The HS Convention does not specify the duty rates on each product, leaving it to the discretion of the member states, nor does it consider the legislative purpose of each country -- to tax or exempt a product. This paper examines the issue of legislative purpose and concludes that considering the domestic legislative purpose when classifying leads to a lack of uniformity in the classification method and undermines the principle underlying the HS Convention. Prior research emphasizes how organizational culture can hinder organizational adaptation. In this study, we investigate how organizational culture can help promote organizational adaptation to environmental changes, using a formal model from cultural evolution theory. In the model, organizational members face a trade-off between innovating versus following tradition (because environmental changes are uncertain). Members can also decide to help others who are following the tradition, thereby improving its diffusion. Organizational leaders shape the culture of their organization, which influences members' decisions to choose innovation or tradition or to help others following tradition. Culture comprises two dimensions: beliefs and prosocial values. We find that increasing the accuracy of beliefs leads to improvements in both innovation and following tradition, thereby mitigating the trade-off between them and boosting adaptation and performance. On prosocial values, we find that increasing their intensity reduces the cost of following tradition but at the expense of reduced adaptation, resulting in an inverted-U relationship between intensity of prosocial values and performance. Overall, we show how leaders can fine-tune the dimensions of organizational culture to foster improvements in adaptation and performance. The formal model we introduce is novel to the literature and offers a way of studying adaptation to a changing environment and to incorporate social learning into models of adaptation under bounded rationality. Purpose. This research aims to investigate the prevalent practice of including advisers as co-authors in students' research works, with a specific focus on understanding the attitudes of the academic community, particularly students and educators. The study seeks to explore. Students' and educators' perceptions, beliefs, and/or opinions regarding the practice raise concerns in higher education institutions worldwide. Methodology. Through a descriptivecorrelational research design following a quantitative research approach, the researcher gathered data on the attitudes of 200 students and 200 educators of 4 Higher Education Institutions in Region IVA, Philippines, towards the inclusion of advisers as co-authors in students' theses, particularly when presented in conferences and published in journals. The collected data is analyzed to identify prevailing opinions and perspectives within the academic community. This analysis takes into account factors such as mentorship, intellectual contribution, and ethical considerations related to authorship attribution. By weighing these factors, the researcher forms a stance on the practice and offers recommendations for its ethical implementation. Results revealed differing opinions between students and educators. Moreover, significant differences in the attitudes of faculty members towards the practice when grouped based on their highest educational attainment, academic rank, and tenure were established, as well as the significant relationship between the research engagement and productivity of faculty members, and their attitude towards the matter. Although the inclusion of advisers in students’ theses was found acceptable within the academic community, the authorship guidelines set by the Committee on Publication Ethics, also known as COPE, suggest otherwise. Conclusion. These findings contribute to the existing literature on academic authorship improprieties and provide insights into the attitudes and opinions of the academic community. They are expected to stimulate discussions, fostering a better understanding of the implications of including advisers as co-authors in students' research works. This study examines the effect of stock liquidity on firm productivity. Our findings indicate that stock liquidity positively affects firm productivity. Our study provides several pieces of evidence to show that stock liquidity enhances firm productivity through facilitation of corporate governance by shareholders and stock price efficiency. Additionally, we confirm that the impact of stock liquidity on productivity is more pronounced for firms with lower attendance at shareholder meetings, with less financial constraints and that are state‐owned enterprises. This study makes a valuable contribution to the existing literature by presenting novel evidence regarding the influence of stock liquidity on firm productivity in emerging markets. This research investigates explicitly how Information technology capability (ITC) can be tailored to achieve business sustainability via ambidextrous innovation in a turbulent environment. Moreover, the moderating factor of a data‐driven culture (DDC) is also being investigated. The research model was built on the theoretical foundations of the resource‐based view (RBV), dynamic capabilities view and existing IT capabilities literature. Through a close‐ended survey questionnaire from approximately 254 IT personnel in managerial positions working in the manufacturing industry, partial least squares‐structural equation modelling‐artificial neural network (PLS‐SEM‐ANN) is applied. Notably, the result indicated that ITC positively influences IT‐enabled dynamic capabilities (ITDC), which positively impacts ambidextrous innovations and helps manufacturing firms achieve business sustainability. Meanwhile, the moderating role of DDC between ITDC and exploitative innovation was also found. The results showed that ANN models A, B, C and D are consistent for both analysis. This study provides several novel additions to the literature on operations management and information systems (IS) researchers. IS researchers should focus on leveraging ITC to enable and support organisational capabilities rather than the direct effects of IT expenditures. Additionally, the importance of a DDC has seldom been explored together previously. Thus, this study fills gaps in existing knowledge, along with significant insights, specifically for future IT implementation. As for practical implications, this study provides corporate leaders and executives with insights about how to leverage their resources and customise their ITC in an unpredictable and volatile business environment. Background: Infective endocarditis is an infection of microbial origin affecting the endocardial layer of the heart, mostly impacting the heart valves. Right-sided infective endocarditis mainly affects the tricuspid valve. In some cases where surgical management is indicated the patients might not be good candidates for surgery. The AngioVac drainage cannula (AngioDynamics, Latham, NY, USA) is a novel device used in debulking and suction of intravascular material. It has been reported in the literature as a novel treatment for patients with right-sided tricuspid valve endocarditis vegetations, where their size is reduced and the efficacy of antibiotics in clearing the bloodstream infection is enhanced. Methods and results: We conducted a thorough literature review to assess the uses of the AngioVac drainage cannula in the management of right-sided infective endocarditis vegetations and lesions. We collected all reported cases where the system was used for the management of right-sided infective endocarditis and performed an encompassing review of the literature. In the review, we found 65 cases reported using the AngioVac drainage cannula for the removal of right-sided infective endocarditis vegetations. Majority of the cases were successful with no complications (87.6%); 7 (10.7%) cases were successful but there were complications: 2 reported mortalities, 1 patient had worsening TR during follow-up, 3 had recurrence of the vegetation, and 1 patient remained bacteremic. There was only 1 reported failure. Four (6.1%) patients required postprocedural valvular surgery with 3 repairs and a single valve replacement. Conclusions: The AngioVac system is a possible bailout option for surgeons managing patients with right-sided infective endocarditis vegetations who are not ideal candidates for surgery. Recommender systems (RSs) aim at helping users to effectively retrieve items of their interests from a large catalogue. For a quite long time, researchers and practitioners have been focusing on developing accurate RSs. Recent years have witnessed an increasing number of threats to RSs, coming from attacks, system and user generated noise, and various types of biases. As a result, it has become clear that the focus on RS accuracy is too narrow, and the research must consider other important factors, particularly trustworthiness. A trustworthy recommender system (TRS) should not only be accurate but also transparent, unbiased, fair, and robust to noise and attacks. These observations actually led to a paradigm shift of the research on RSs: from accuracy-oriented RSs to TRSs. However, there is a lack of a systematic overview and discussion of the literature in this novel and fast-developing field of TRSs. To this end, in this article, we provide an overview of TRSs, including a discussion of the motivation and basic concepts of TRSs, a presentation of the challenges in building TRSs, and a perspective on the future directions in this area. Utilizing a simple time‐varying hazard model, we incorporate nationwide and state‐level economic variables with banking‐industry and bank‐level data to examine U.S. bank failures during 1977–2019. We find that bank‐level financial conditions are more essential in predicting bank failure, although macro factors affect the failure likelihood of vulnerable banks. We also find that banking‐industry market variables are significant predictors. Unlike bank systemic funding cost whose predictive power is subsumed in the presence of macroeconomic variables, banking‐industry market performance has a significantly independent predictive power on bank failure.
