Under contract with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), HDR Engineering, Inc. (HDR), has been tasked with the preliminary planning and predesign of a north-south highway corridor in Pinal County, Arizona (Federal Highway Administration Project No. STP-999-A [BBM]; TRACS No. 999 PN H7454 O1L). This highway will link Interstate 10 (I-10), in the vicinity of Picacho, to U.S. Highway 60 (also known as the Superstition Freeway), in the vicinity of Apache Junction. HDR has subcontracted with Statistical Research, Inc. to complete a Class I inventory of the study area. Report Submittal Number 2: May 2011

Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District (SRP) requested that Logan Simpson Design Inc. (LSD) perform a Class III cultural resources survey of the proposed Abel Generation Peaking Plant Site. The project area is a combination of recently plowed, planted, and fallow agricultural fields located near Queen Creek, Pinal County, Arizona. The project area encompasses 513 acres of private land adjacent to the intersection of Quail Run Lane and Bella Vista Road and includes a north-south running, 130-ft-wide by 1-mile-long corridor immediately west of Attaway Road. Because of crop cover, only 351 acres of the project area was surveyed. This is submittal 2 of the report.

The results of additional Class 3 cultural resources surveys for the Pinal West to Dinosaur Extra-high Voltage Transmission Line Project are presented in this report. The transmission line is being constructed by the Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District (SRP); it will link the Pinal West, Santa Rosa, Pinal Central, Abel, and Dinosaur Substations located in south-central Arizona. The results from the bulk of cultural resources surveys for the project were previously reported in the comprehensive report, Cultural Resources Survey for the Pinal West to Dinosaur Extra-High Voltage Transmission Line, Pinal County, Arizona. At the time of its writing, eight segments of the transmission line corridor remained unsurveyed due to the presence of active crops that completely covered the ground surface within the corridor. Also since that time, SRP identified a need for two additions to existing project easements and 18 pulling station locations, whose areas extended beyond the previously surveyed corridor. At SRP's request, the results of the survey of the previously unsurveyed segments, new easements, and pulling stations are provided as an addendum to the larger survey report.

Class III cultural resources survey for an extra-high voltage transmission line connecting the Pinal West, Santa Rosa, Pinal Central, Abel, and Dinosaur Substations in Pinal County, Arizona.

Salt River Project (SRP) requested that Logan Simpson Design Inc. (LSD) perform a Class III cultural resources survey of the approximately 4.25-mile by 20-m-wide corridor to identify and evaluate any cultural resources that could be affected by the construction of a new 69kV transmission line from the existing Quail Substation to the proposed Shipley Substation between Quail Run Road and Cooper Road in Magma, Pinal County. The survey area measures 22,440 ft long by 65.62 ft wide and encompasses 25.85 acres of private land and 7.95 acres of State Trust land under the jurisdiction of the Arizona State Land Department, totaling 33.80 acres. The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) right-of-way within the project area was not surveyed as part of this project. It had previously been surveyed and is highly disturbed; no sites are reported in the Reclamation right-of-way where it crosses the SRP project area. Although the SRP project corridor is only 36 feet wide, a 20-m-wide corridor was surveyed. The proposed project consists of constructing a new 69kV transmission line, including installation of utility poles. The Class III survey was undertaken at the request of SRP as due-diligence as part of the planning for the installation of the line, and because portions of the project are located on ASLD land, the cultural resources survey was completed in compliance with the requirements set forth in ARS § 41-861 et. Seq., the Arizona State Historic Preservation Act.

This document presents the results of a class I cultural resources inventory and the results of the relocation and evaluation efforts for 14 previously recorded cultural resource sites located within the proposed Merrill Ranch residential community near Florence, Pinal County, Arizona (Figure 1). Vanguard Properties requested that Carter & Burgess, Inc. (C&B) conduct the inventory and relocation as part of the application process to obtain a permit from the United States Army Corp of Engineers in compliance with Section 404(b)(1) of the Clean Water Act. As such, the project is considered to be federal undertaking that is subject 36 CFR 800, the regulations implementing the National Historic Preservation Act. This report was revised December 2004. Carter & Burgess, Inc. (C&B) conducted a Class III, non collection cultural resources survey of approximately 1,346 acres of privately owned land within the proposed Merrill Ranch development, located northwest of Florence, Pinal County, Arizona (Figure 1). The survey was conducted at the request of Vanguard Properties as part of ongoing efforts to determine whether significant cultural resources exist within the Merrill Ranch development, prior to the proposed construction of a residential community. For the purposes of this investigation, the term "cultural resources" refers to prehistoric or historic archaeological sites or objects and potentially significant historic buildings or structures. Although not required for survey on private land, C&B holds a blanket Arizona Antiquities Act permit (2004-22bl) issued by the Arizona State Museum (ASM). Report was revised in December 2004.
