A linear operator $U$ acting boundedly on an infinite-dimensional separable complex Hilbert space $H$ is universal if every linear bounded operator acting on $H$ is similar to a scalar multiple of a restriction of $U$ to one of its invariant subspaces. It turns out that characterizing the lattice of closed invariant subspaces of a universal operator is equivalent to solve the Invariant Subspace Problem for Hilbert spaces. In this paper, we consider invertible weighted hyperbolic composition operators and we prove the universality of the translations by eigenvalues of such operators, acting on Hardy and weighted Bergman spaces. In this paper we prove characterizations of the discrete Besov spaces in terms of the heat and Poisson semigroups associated with the discrete Laplacian that will allow us to prove regularity results for the fractional powers of the discrete Laplacian and the discrete Bessel potentials. Moreover, we provide new estimates for the derivatives of the discrete heat kernel and semigroup which are of independent interest.

The paper is devoted to understand the large time behaviour and decay of the solution of the discrete heat equation in the one dimensional mesh $\Z$ on $\ell^p$ spaces, and its analogies with the continuous-space case. We do a deep study of the moments of the discrete gaussian kernel (which is given in terms of Bessel functions), in particular the mass conservation principle; that is reflected on the large time behaviour of solutions. We prove asymptotic pointwise and $\ell^p$ decay results for the fundamental solution. We use that estimates to get rates on the $\ell^p$ decay and large time behaviour of solutions. In this paper we characterize the discrete H\"older spaces by means of the heat and Poisson semigroups associated to the discrete Laplacian. These characterizations allow us to get regularity properties of fractional powers of the discrete Laplacian and the Bessel potentials along these spaces and also in the discrete Zygmund spaces in a more direct way than using the pointwise definition of the spaces. To obtain our results, it has been crucial to get boundedness properties of the heat and Poisson kernels and their derivatives in both space and time variables. We believe that these estimates are also of independent interest.

In this paper we investigate the asymptotic behavior and decay of the solution of the discrete in time $N$-dimensional heat equation. We give a convergence rate with which the solution tends to the discrete fundamental solution, and the asymptotic decay, both in $L^p(\R^N).$ Furthermore we prove optimal $L^2$-decay of solutions. Since the technique of energy methods is not applicable, we follow the approach of estimates based on the discrete fundamental solution which is given by an original integral representation and also by MacDonald's special functions. As a consequence, the analysis is different to the continuous in time heat equation and the calculations are rather involved.

The main goal in this paper is to study asymptotic behaviour in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^N)$ for the solutions of the fractional version of the discrete in time $N$-dimensional diffusion equation, which involves the Caputo fractional $h$-difference operator. The techniques to prove the results are based in new subordination formulas involving the discrete in time Gaussian kernel, and which are defined via an analogue in discrete time setting of the scaled Wright functions. Moreover, we get an equivalent representation of that subordination formula by Fox H-functions.

We study the generalization of $m$-isometries and $m$-contractions (for positive integers $m$) to what we call $a$-isometries and $a$-contractions for positive real numbers $a$. We show that any Hilbert space operator, satisfying an inequality of certain class (in hereditary form), is similar to $a$-contractions. We propose a model for the transmission of perturbations across the amino acids of a protein represented as an interaction network. The dynamics consists of a Susceptible-Infected (SI) model based on the Caputo fractional-order derivative. We find an upper bound to the analytical solution of this model which represents the worse-case scenario on the propagation of perturbations across a protein residue network. This upper bound is expressed in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions of the adjacency matrix of the network of inter-amino acids interactions. We then apply this model to the analysis of the propagation of perturbations produced by inhibitors of the main protease of SARS CoV-2. We find that the perturbations produced by strong inhibitors of the protease are propagated far away from the binding site, confirming the long-range nature of intra-protein communication. On the contrary, the weakest inhibitors only transmit their perturbations across a close environment around the binding site. We characterize the solutions of the Poisson equation and the domain of its associated one-sided Hilbert transform for Ces\`aro bounded operators of fractional order. The results obtained fairly generalize the corresponding ones for power-bounded operators. In passing, we give an extension of the mean ergodic theorem. Examples are given to illustrate the theory.

We discuss when an operator, subject to a rather general inequality in hereditary form, admits a unitarily equivalent functional model of Agler type in the reproducing kernel Hilbert space associated to the inequality. To the contrary to the previous work, the kernel need not be of Nevanlinna-Pick type. In this paper, we extend the concept of absolutely Ces\`aro boundedness to the fractional case. We construct a weighted shift operator belonging to this class of operators, and we prove that if $T$ is an absolutely Ces\`{a}ro bounded operator of order $\alpha$ with $0<\alpha\le 1,$ then $\| T^n\|=o(n^{\alpha})$, generalizing the result obtained for $\alpha =1$. Moreover, if $\alpha > 1$, then $\|T^{n}\|= O(n)$. We apply such results to get stability properties for the Ces\`aro means of bounded operators.

In this note we focus on the discrete fractional integrals as a natural continuation of our previous work about nonlocal fractional derivatives, discrete and continuous. We define the discrete fractional integrals by using the semigroup theory and we study the regularity of {discrete fractional integrals} on the discrete H\"older spaces, which it is known in the differential equations field as the discrete Schauder estimates.

We develop an operator-theoretical method for the analysis on well posedness of partial differential equations that can be modeled in the form \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{rll} \Delta^{\alpha} u(n) &= Au(n+2) + f(n,u(n)), \quad n \in \mathbb{N}_0, \,\, 1< \alpha \leq 2; u(0) &= u_0; u(1) &= u_1, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $A$ is an closed linear operator defined on a Banach space $X$. Our ideas are inspired on the Poisson distribution as a tool to sampling fractional differential operators into fractional differences. Using our abstract approach, we are able to show existence and uniqueness of solutions for the problem (*) on a distinguished class of weighted Lebesgue spaces of sequences, under mild conditions on strongly continuous sequences of bounded operators generated by $A,$ and natural restrictions on the nonlinearity $f$. Finally we present some original examples to illustrate our results.

We prove maximum and comparison principles for fractional discrete derivatives in the integers. Regularity results when the space is a mesh of length $h$, and approximation theorems to the continuous fractional derivatives are shown. When the functions are good enough, these approximation procedures give a measure of the order of approximation. These results also allows us to prove the coincidence, for good enough functions, of the Marchaud and Gr\"unwald-Letnikov derivatives in every point and the speed of convergence to the Gr\"unwald-Letnikov derivative. The fractional discrete derivative will be also described as a Neumann-Dirichlet operator defined by a semi-discrete extension problem. Some operators related to the Harmonic Analysis associated to the discrete derivative will be also considered, in particular their behavior in the Lebesgue spaces $\ell^p(\mathbb{Z}).$

We extend the well-known Katznelson-Tzafriri theorem, originally posed for power-bounded operators, to the case of Ces\`aro bounded operators of any order $\alpha>0.$ For this purpose, we use a functional calculus between a new class of fractional Wiener algebras and the algebra of bounded linear operators, whose existence is characterized by the Ces\`aro boundedness. Finally, we apply the main theorem to get ergodicity results for the Ces\`aro means of bounded operators.

In this paper we show the unexpected property that extension from local to global without loss of regularity holds for the solutions of a wide class of vector-valued differential equations, in particular for the class of fractional abstract Cauchy problems in the subdiffusive case. The main technique is the use of the algebraic structure of these solutions, which are defined by new versions of functional equations defining solution families of bounded operators. The convolution product and the double Laplace transform for functions of two variables are useful tools which we apply also to extend these solutions. Finally we illustrate our results with different concrete examples.

Let $X$ be a complex Banach space. The connection between algebra homomorphisms defined on subalgebras of the Banach algebra $\ell^{1}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ and the algebraic structure of Ces\`{a}ro sums of a linear operator $T\in \mathcal{B}(X)$ is established. In particular, we show that every $(C, \alpha)$-bounded operator $T$ induces - and is in fact characterized - by such an algebra homomorphism. Our method is based on some sequence kernels, Weyl fractional difference calculus and convolution Banach algebras that are introduced and deeply examined. To illustrate our results, improvements to bounds for Abel means, new insights on the $(C,\alpha)$ boundedness of the resolvent operator for temperated $\alpha$-times integrated semigroups, and examples of bounded homomorphisms are given in the last section.

We obtain a vector-valued subordination principle for $(g_{\alpha}, g_{\alpha})$-regularized resolvent families which unified and improves various previous results in the literature. As a consequence we establish new relations between solutions of different fractional Cauchy problems. To do that, we consider scaled Wright functions which are related to Mittag-Leffler functions, the fractional calculus and stable L\'evy processes. We study some interesting properties of these functions such as subordination (in the sense of Bochner), convolution properties, and their Laplace transforms. Finally we present some examples where we apply these results.

In this paper we obtain $L^1$-weighted norms of classical orthogonal polynomials (Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials) in terms of the zeros of these orthogonal polynomials; these expressions are usually known as quadrature rules. In particular these new formulae are useful to calculate directly some positive defined integrals as several examples show.

In this paper we introduce vector-valued Hermite expansions to approximate one-parameter operator families such as $C_0$-groups and cosine functions. In both cases we estimate the rate of convergence of these Hermite expansions to the related family and compare with other known approximations. Finally we illustrate our results with particular examples of $C_0$-groups and cosine functions and their Hermite expansions., Comment: 22 pages. In this paper we introduce Laguerre expansions to approximate vector-valued functions expanding on the well-known scalar theorem. We apply this result to approximate $C_0$-semi\-groups and resolvent operators in abstract Banach spaces. We study certain Laguerre functions, its Laplace transforms and the convergence of Laguerre series in Lebesgue spaces.
