Abstract

Current study describes copper fiber as a cut fiber with a length of 10 mm from construction waste, focusing on its potency in pure gypsum. The aspect ratio (L/D) for copper fiber mixtures is 12 and 20.8, with the first being for a diameter of 0.83 mm and 0.48 mm for the second diameter, with a volume ratio equal to 0.4%. Mixtures are organized into two groups, with the first group having a 0.6 water/gypsum ratio and the second group having a ratio of 0.5. Each of the ratios currently used includes three mixtures, the first of which is a reference mixture without copper fibers, and the second and third mixtures contain copper fibers of different diameters, both individually. The current study shows that the importance of compressive strength rises by reducing the W/G ratio for the three mixtures used and the importance of adding copper fibers to pure gypsum, which leads to an aspect ratio increases by reducing the copper fibers diameter which may directly effective to rise compressive strength for pure gypsum mixture containing copper fiber.

Abstract

Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome is affecting around 5-15% of females. Spexin hormone, identified as neuropeptide Q, has been newly recognized by bioinformatics methods. Objective: To evaluate the relationship concerning levels of spexin hormone with metabolic disruption in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Patients and Methods: A case-control study carried out in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Al-Imamain Al-Khademain medical city/Baghdad, Iraq, from Jan 1, 2022, to the end of Dec 31, 2022. The study sample comprises, 192 participants aged 18-45 years were joined and allocated into a case group (96 women with PCOS) and a control group (96 women without PCOS). Results: Mean value of spexin hormone was (2.7±0.3 ng/mL) in the PCOS group, while it was (3.5±0.7 ng/mL) in the control group; fasting blood sugar shows significant association with a negative, weak correlation with Spexin in patients (P-value= 0.005), Insulin shows significant association with inverse correlation with Spexin in patients (P-value= 0.04), Homeostasis model valuation of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) shows significant association with inverse correlation with Spexin in patients (P-value= 0.003). Spexin had a significant inverse correlation with LH, SHBG, testosterone, FAI, and Dehydroepiandrosterone. Conclusion: Serum level of spexin hormone was meaningfully decreased in patients with PCOS than that in healthy women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

14. Effect of process parameters on titanium nitride coatings chemically vapour deposited on high-speed cutting tool inserts

Abstract

In collaboration with Edgar Allen Tools, Sheffield, a detailed study has been made of the effect of various process parameters on titanium nitride (TiN) coatings chemically vapour deposited on powder metallurgy (PM) BT42 grade high speed steel (HSS) indexable cutting tool inserts. Initially, the characteristics of a TiN coating chemically vapour deposited on the HSS inserts in the Plansee reactor at Edgar Allen Tools, under the standard conditions employed by them, were determined in order to provide a logical starting point for the present study. This was clone using various techniques: X-ray diffraction, Auger electron spectroscopy, optical microscopy, fractography, scanning electron micrscopy, profilometry, micro-hardness testing and scratch-adhesion testing. Whilst sane of the characteristics of this TiN coating were found to be comparable to those of similar coatings presented in the literature, there was clearly scope for improvement.

Abstract

The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect occurs when the asphalt pavement surface temperature exceeds 70 ℃ in summer. Rutting is a significant temperature-related problem that develops on asphalt surfaces when the temperature becomes too high. Additionally, this phenomenon increases energy consumption for cooling buildings near pavements and degrades air quality. In this work, a developed Asphalt Solar Collector (ASC) has been investigated by inserting tubes inside the construction of the pavement and circulating working fluid within it to capture the thermal energy generated by asphalt surfaces. The effect of Hot Mixture Asphalt (HMA) thermal conductivity has been investigated to improve HMA thermal performance and satisfies the aforementioned requirements. A numerical 3-D model utilizing COMSOL Multiphysics Software has been used to investigate the performance of various ASC models with parallel and serpentine embedded tubes. Analyses are performed on several different asphalt mixtures compositions and additives. The results show that increasing the thermal conductivity of HMA, increases the efficiency of ASC from 54.38 % to about 66.74 %, also the surface temperature of HMA decreases significantly from 60.18 ℃ to 52.67℃. Abstract

This paper has been achieved to desalinate the brackish groundwater for several districts located in Baghdad the capital of Iraq which are Amiriya, Shurta 5 ,and New Baghdad by using reverse osmosis (RO) Unit. ULP 1812-50 RO type has been used for desalination in this paper. The system has accomplished the percentage of water recovery that ranged between (18.18 - 33.33)% and the percentage of salt rejection that ranged between (97.07 - 99.29)%. As well as the high efficiencies of removal for the physio-chemical parameters of the raw groundwater which are Electrical conductivity, EC (95-99)%, Turbidity(100)%, Total Hardness (100)%, Ca (95-100)%, Mg (84-93)%, Cl (70-96)%, SO4 (85-100)% and NO3 (73-93)%. Abstract

Mebendazole (MBZ) is a wide-spectrum antihelmintic drug and, more recently, has proven to be active in various types of cancer. In both cases, its efficacy is limited by insufficient bioavailability due to its very low solubility and inadequate release kinetics. This paper presents the preparation and in vitro availability of solid dispersions of MBZ and polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000, which were combined with Ludiflash as a disintegrant and croscarmellose as a superdisintegrant in tablets, by direct compression processing technology. The release was determined in simulated intestinal fluid, and the kinetics were analyzed using square root, Noyes-Whitney, Peppas, and Weibull models. An improvement of release in a simulated intestinal medium has been achieved due to the formation of solid dispersion and presence of disintegrants, leading to tablet disintegration in about 15 min in the case of 1: 1 solid dispersion and between 30 min and 1 h in the case of 1: 2.5 solid dispersion. The amount of MBZ released was approximately 60% in 3 h for the 1: 1 dispersion, 100% for the 1: 2.5 dispersion, and only 6% for the tablets without PEG. The release was described well and unitary by square root laws in both pre- and post-disintegration phases. The square root model was argued to describe the release from an "infinite reservoir" (i.e., a generalized square root law, similar to those applied in heat transfer) and not released under the conditions of the Higuchi model. 31. Association of Run-in Periods with Weight Loss in Obesity Randomized Controlled Trials

Abstract

Study-level design characteristics that inform the optimal design of obesity randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have been examined in few studies. A pre-randomization run-in period is one such design element that may influence weight loss. We examined 311 obesity RCTs published between January 1, 2007 and July 1, 2009 that examined weight loss or weight gain prevention as a primary or secondary endpoint. Variables included run-in period, pre-post intervention weight loss, study duration (time), intervention type, percent female, and degree of obesity. Linear regression was used to estimate weight loss as a function of 1) run-in (yes/no), and 2) run-in, time, percent female, body mass index, intervention type. Interaction terms were also examined. Approximately nineteen percent (18.6%) of the studies included a run-in period with pharmaceutical studies having the highest frequency. Although all intervention types were associated with weight loss (Mean = 2.80 kg, SD=3.52), the inclusion of a pre-randomization run-in was associated with less weight loss (p=0.0017) compared to studies that did not include a run-in period. However, this association was not consistent across intervention types. Our results imply that in trials primarily targeting weight loss in adults, run-in periods may not be beneficial for improving weight loss outcomes in interventions.

Abstract

Background:Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is standard imaging modality for guiding percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion. Intracardiac echocardiography may be a suitable alternative with advantages like avoiding intubation and general anesthesiaMethods:PubMed, EMBASE, and Google Scholar databases were queried for all trials evaluating transesophageal and intracardiac echocardiography for percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion procedureResults:This Meta-analysis included 6 trials and a total of 1261 patients. Transesophageal vs intracardiac echocardiography guidance had similar procedure time (OR -4.23, 95%CI -21.07- 12.61), similar fluoroscopic times (OR 1.84, 95%CI -0.59- 4.27). Immediate procedural success was also similar for transesophageal vs intracardiac echocardiographic guidance (OR 1.43, 95%CI 0.75- 2.70).Conclusions:Transesophageal echocardiography and intracardiac echocardiography are both effective and equivalent in proving procedural imaging guidance for percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion
