The frequency and intensity of flash floods are expected to increase due to climate change, resulting in significant casualties and damage to infrastructure and the economy. Reliable and timely flood maps are essential for an effective disaster management plan. On December 17, 2021, a severe flash flood in Erbil City resulted in twelve fatalities and extensive damage to the affected area. The ability of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images to penetrate clouds and heavy precipitation is vital for accurate flood imaging. This study analyzed Sentinel-1 satellite-based radar images before and after the flood to detect the inundation. Two change detection techniques, the Normalized Change Index (NCI) and the Ratio Index (RI), combined with semi-automatic thresholding were employed. Both methods successfully identified the flooded region with consistent findings. The overall accuracy of NCI and RI were 90.5% and 84.3% respectively. The accuracy assessment revealed that the NCI method outperforms the RI method in detecting the flash flood event in Erbil City. This model is viable for disaster management, enabling the evaluation of damage to critical municipal infrastructure and other assets, thus supporting effective urban governance and timely response to emergencies. At the final stage of disaster management, this model can be implemented to evaluate the extent of loss on major municipal infrastructure and other properties within the area.

Background and purpose: Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) is an environmental pollutant that has genotoxic and carcinogenic effects. Atorvastatin (ATV), as a lipid-lowering drug, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties. This study investigated the effects of ATV on chronic liver and kidney damage induced by BaP. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, adult female rats were randomly divided into seven groups (n= 8 per group), including control group, olive oil group, ATV group (10 mg/kg), BaP groups (10 and 20 mg/kg), and ATV + BaP groups (10 and 20 mg). The drugs were administered by oral gavage for ten consecutive days. Histopathologic evaluation of the liver and kidney tissues was done one month after drug administration. Results: Histopathologic changes in both liver and kidney tissues such as inflammatory cell infiltration, plasma leakage, reduced acidophilia of hepatocytes, and renal tubular cells were seen in the groups receiving BaP. Findings showed that BaP at 20 mg/kg caused more serious harm than that at 10 mg/kg. ATV treatment protected structural changes in liver and kidney tissues. Conclusion: Current study showed that destructive effects of benzopyrene remain until one month after administration. The protective effects of atorvastatin against benzopyrene-induced hepatotoxicity were confirmed over time.

Abstract Background Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury may be associated with genu varum. There are a few indications in which the varus deformity can be corrected at the time of ACL reconstruction. However, as the genu varum originates mostly from the tibia and the simultaneous presence of ACL deficiency and femur originated genu varum is uncommon, only a few papers have described their management for ACL deficient patients with femur originated genu varum. Case presentation A young patient visited our clinic with a complaint of right knee pain and giving way. Further work up revealed a full mid substance ACL tear, mild medial knee osteoarthritis and femur originated genu varum of his right knee. He was managed with simultaneous ACL reconstruction and distal femoral valgus osteotomy. Conclusions Any corrective osteotomy for genu varum should be performed at center of rotation angle. Isolated ACL reconstruction in patients with simultaneous ACL deficiency and genu varum may hasten the knee degeneration. Level of evidence IV

Enchondroma is a common benign chondrogenic tumor, which typically occurs in the short bones of hands and feet. However, when affecting the long bones, it is difficult to rule out the low-grade chondrosarcoma, called atypical cartilaginous tumor (ACT), because of the highly similar clinical and radiologic features. This study reports 2 patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis, scheduled for total knee arthroplasty, who had a distal femoral lesion on imaging suggestive of ACT/enchondroma. We believe that the treatment of these patients could be a challenge for arthroplasty surgeons. This is because it might be difficult to decide whether a periarticular chondral tumor of an osteoarthritic knee is malignant and changes the plan. In this report, we described our approach to address both knee osteoarthritis and ACT/enchondroma of the distal femur. To the best of our knowledge, this issue has not yet been discussed in the literature.

Knee instability is the second most common cause of revision after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Genu recurvatum (GR) is the rarest form of instability usually occurring in patients with underlying conditions such as neuromuscular disorders and fixed valgus deformities. The literature regarding de novo post-TKA GR and its treatment is scarce. In this case series and review of literature, we aimed to review the treatment strategies of post-TKA GR and to present our experience in the treatment of late-onset de novo GR after TKA by isolated polyethylene exchange. To our knowledge, isolated polyethylene exchange has not been so far described for GR correction after TKA. We found a unique wear pattern at the base of the liner post in all 3 patients. They showed a satisfactory outcome with no recurrence on a mean follow-up of 26.67 months.

Human fingernails were used to estimate the radiation dose via electron paramagnetic resonance measurements of radiation-induced radicals. The limiting factors in this research were mechanically induced electron paramagnetic resonance signals due to the mechanical stress during the preparation of the samples. Therefore, different treatment methods of fingernails were used to reduce the mechanically induced signals. The results demonstrate that the mechanically induced and radiation-induced signals have apparently different microwave power saturation behaviors. In addition, the mechanically induced signal shows a fading evolution over time and reaches a constant value. Chemical treatment using the different reagents showed that the minimum mechanically induced signal was obtained using the dithiothreitol reagent. The dose–response curves of the samples treated with dithiothreitol for 30 minutes demonstrated a greater linearity than those of samples treated for 5 minutes. Therefore, to find an unknown absorbed dose in a fingernail sample using a calibration curve, we recommend adopting the mentioned chemical treatment procedure to reduce the uncertainty. The current research is concerned with studying (technical indications of mental disorders in the European Renaissance) and it included four chapters. The first chapter dealt with the research problem, which centered on the following question (Are there technical indications of mental disorders in the European Renaissance), the first chapter included the importance of the research and the need for it, its goal and its limits And defining the terms contained therein. The second chapter included three sections about me, the first studying semantics and art. The second topic dealt with psychological disorder and the third topic dealt with the Renaissance. The second chapter ended with the indicators that were deduced. As for the third chapter, it included the research procedures represented by the research community and the research sample that It reached (2) a technical model, and the third chapter ended with the analysis of the research sample.
