This paper studies the effects and causal links between the shadow economy and the unemployment rate using a dynamic simultaneous-equation panel data model for 38 developing and 40 developed countries over the 2000−2015 period. The analysis suggests that there is a unidirectional and negative causality running from the unemployment rate to the shadow economy in the developing countries. However, in the developed countries, there is a bidirectional and negative causal relationship between the shadow economy and unemployment rate. The sensitivity of the results makes the authors realize that institutional quality interacts strongly with the relationship between the shadow economy and the unemployment rate. In countries with a good institutional quality, the unemployment rate is associated with a weak informal economy, whereas in countries with low institutional quality, it strongly drives the informal economy.

The problem of this thesis is at the heart of economics which considers time as a productive resource. In fact, it is here where the whole difference exists between the labor supply and demand equilibrium models with perfect information and job search models, i.e. the treatment of time.By mobilizing the econometric duration models, the purpose of this thesis is to study the individual dynamics of access to the first (last) employment of higher education graduates based on individual longitudinal observations. This type of observations makes it possible to report on the diversification of states and put back individual trajectories in the history on the labor market. The observation of these trajectories helps analyze a phenomenon (duration of primary unemployment) both in its individual dimension, through the individual observable or unobservable characteristics of the unemployed, and in its temporal dimension, through the specific dynamics to each unemployed.We will try to use a longitudinal survey (Generation 98) to rigorously explain the determinants of the access duration to the employment of young higher education graduates. Generation 98 provides a large battery of variables that are all factors of differentiation in the labor market (i.e. Socio-demographic characteristics, Education level, and Professional path, Résumé :La problématique de la thèse est au cœur d’une science économique qui envisage le temps comme une ressource productive. Et c’est là où réside toute la différence entre les modèles d’équilibre instantané de l’offre et de la demande du travail en information parfaite et les modèles de recherche d’emploi, i.e. le traitement du temps.Mobilisant les modèles économétriques de durée, la thèse a pour objet d’étudier la dynamique individuelle d’accès au premier (dernier) emploi des diplômés de l’enseignement supérieur à partir d’observations individuelles longitudinales. Ce type d’observations permet de mieux rendre compte de la diversification des états et de replacer les trajectoires individuelles dans l’histoire passée sur le marché du travail. L’observation de ces trajectoires autorise l’analyse d’un phénomène (durée du primo-chômage) à la fois dans sa dimension individuelle, au travers des caractéristiques individuelles observables ou non observables du chômeur, et dans sa dimension temporelle, au travers de la dynamique spécifique à chaque chômeur.Nous tenterons d’exploiter une enquête longitudinale (Génération 98) afin d’expliquer de manière rigoureuse les déterminants des durées d’accès à l’emploi des jeunes diplômés de l’enseignement supérieur. Génération 98 fournit une batterie imposante de variables qui constituent autant de facteurs de différenciation sur le marché du travail (i.e. Caractéristiques sociodémographiques, Formation, Cheminement professionnel)..
