Population trend of the onion thrips Thrips tabaci . infesting three common onion cultivars and it's control have been determined. The weekly population trend of T. tabaci indicated that the pest appeared on the tested onion cultivars in moderately high numbers at the beginning of January few' days after transplanting. The pest showed another two peaks during mid March and first April. This finding is considered as a proof that onion thrips has had three generations throughout onion growing season in Assiut governorate. Appearance of the pest in moderately high numbers after transplanting could be referring to the appearance of the first low peak before transplanting onion. Tow new chemical insecticides (Bieo 50% EC and Radiant 12 % SC versus Dolf 2.5% EC) were tested. Three concentrations of (Radiant 12 % SC) were used as follows: 26, 35 and 44 ml/100 litter water. The general reduction showed 78.52; 78.81and 81.05% for the abovementioned three concentrations, respectively. The conventional compound "Dolf 2.5% EC" showed the highest reduction percentage of the pest numbers, with an average of 84.48%. However, "Bieo SO% EC" showed the lowest reduction % as 74.26%.
