This paper proposes a simple microstrip patch antenna (MPA) that can reconfigure its polarization states from linear to circular polarization in real-time by means of a PIN diode. An antenna is fed by a 50 Ω coaxial cable through the substrate of Teflon with relative permittivity of 2.15. The proposed antenna possesses a simple patch with a one-sided corner truncated to achieve polarization reconfigurability. A PIN diode is loaded to connect the main patch with a truncated corner and further maintain dual polarization states such as linear polarization (LP) and circular polarization (CP). Advanced design system (ADS) was used as a simulator to simulate the antenna, and a good understanding was obtained between simulated and measured results. Measured results showed a good agreement with simulated results at all working frequencies of interest. It shows minimum reflection coefficient gain with -10 dB scattering bandwidth 100 MHz for LP states and 170 MHz for CP states. It also shows an axial ratio of 1.56 dB for CP, and the cross-polarization level is also in a satisfying range.

A circularly polarized microstrip patch array antenna using both-sided microwave integrated circuit (MIC) technology with a triple feed network has been proposed in this article. The antenna elements, feed structure and both-sided MIC technology are used and arranged in such a way to obtain circular polarization alongside high gain without using an external matching circuit. The 50 Ω microstrip line is used to energize the antenna where the antenna’s total feed network is made up of both series and parallel combinations of microstrip and slot line. The antenna was realized using Teflon glass fiber substrate (εr)=2.15 with a thickness of 0.8 mm. The antenna has some splendid parameters including S11 of less than -35 dB, a gain of 12 dBi with an omnidirectional pattern and an axial ratio of 0.7 dB at the operating frequency. The antenna possesses a bandwidth of 430 MHz (4.22%) after operating at X-band in the frequency spectrum. The antenna’s simulated parameters were investigated with the help of advanced design system (ADS) simulation software in microwave momentum mode.

In this article, a frequency reconfigurable honey-bee compact microstrip monopole antenna is proposed which is fed by a microstrip line (50 Ω) having the capability of providing dual-band as well as triple-band operation in eight distinct modes. By embedding three PIN diodes overs the honey bee arms, the effective current distribution is controlled hence resonant frequency is also changed in eight distinct modes in real-time. This is the reason the proposed antenna is portrayed as a frequency reconfigurable antenna in this paper which is suitable for cognitive radio application. This proposed antenna can be used for various wireless application such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX), wireless local area network (WLAN), C-band, and X-band applications. The proposed antenna possesses a planner geometry of 39×34×0.87 mm3 which is printed on a substrate as flexible FR-4 (lossy) (εr=4.4 and tanδ=0.019). This article represented a heart shape reconfigurable monopole antenna with polarization diversity. The proposed antenna is fed by a 50 Ω microstrip feed line that is printed on a flexible FR-4 (εr=4.4) substrate. The antenna comprises a ring-slot, a cross slot and four positive-intrinsic-negative (PIN) diodes that are soldered on ring slot. Four PIN diodes act as a switch and by controlling these PIN diodes effective current direction is changed hence four various states of polarization are achieved. Four states of polarization such as horizontal linear polarization (H-LP), vertical linear polarization (V-LP), right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) and left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) can be switched easily with the help of these PIN diodes and achieved an efficiency of more than 90%. This paper represents a 2×2 microstrip starfish array antenna that shows a linearly polarized electromagnetic wave with high gain characteristics. The proposed antenna operates within K-band which is a suitable candidate for radar as well as satellite applications. This proposed antenna employs Both-sided MIC (Microwave Integrated Circuit) technology to get around of impedance matching problem of the conventional array antenna. The proposed antenna is excited with microstrip feed where the feeding network consists of parallel and series branches of both microstrip and slot line. Teflon glass fiber (e r = 2.1) of 0.8 mm thickness is used as a substrate where the main feed network is arranged upon it. Antenna shows a minimum reflection coefficient gain of -63 dB and the main lobe possesses a high magnitude of around 10.9 dBi at 18.75 GHz. Antenna shows impedance bandwidth of 230 MHz and more than 96% of total efficiency over the desired K-band of the frequency spectrum. CST Microwave Studio suite is used to explore all the simulated results of the proposed 4-element array antenna. The basic mechanism along with simulated results of the proposed array structure is discussed in this article.
