Chamomile oil or extract, derived from the chamomile flower, is a natural remedy with various therapeutic properties. This review summarizes the current knowledge regarding the medicinal properties of chamomile oil or extract including its antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory activities. Chamomile oil has exhibited antibacterial and antifungal properties against various microbes, involving Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. It has also been found to regulate blood sugar levels in animal and human studies, making it a potential candidate for diabetes treatment. Moreover, chamomile oil has antitumor properties, as it can induce apoptosis in cancer cells and inhibit their growth. In addition, chamomile oil has anti-inflammatory features, making it a possible option for treatment under inflammatory circumstances such as eczema, arthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases. Chamomile oil has also been found to have valuable impacts on poultry farming due to its antimicrobial properties. It may be utilized as an organic substitute for antibiotics in chicken production. It is effective against common poultry pathogens, including Salmonella and E. coli, and can also improve poultry growth and feed conversion rate. Background: Childhood stunting is one of our community's most prevalent public health nutrition problems. Many factors may lead to the development of stunning. Growth hormones and diet might play a role in the treatment. This study aims to investigate the effect of nutritional status on the growth rate among children with short stature who underwent growth hormone therapy the previous year. Methods: A one-year retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out among 4-10-year-old children with stunting. Laboratory tests, anthropometric measurements, and dietary intake were measured at the start of the research and one year after the application of growth hormone therapy. Results: A significantly higher growth rate was observed among males than females (P = 0.040). Also, males had significantly higher calorie intake (P). This study found that the patients had a less than 8.5% difference in energy intake vs. total energy requirement. There is a significant association between food consumption from two food groups (milk and meat) (P = 0.04 and 0.021, respectively. Background: Refeeding syndrome (RFS) is a lethal condition of metabolic disturbances that arise from the sudden switch of metabolism from a state of starvation to one of nourishment. Quick recognition would reduce health complications. Physicians who are unaware of the syndrome will not identify and treat it. As nutritional risk is associated with the risk of RFS, physicians should be aware of it. Aim: To determine whether the physicians of King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC) in Makkah know of RFS and, if so, have skills in diagnosis and managing the syndrome. Methods: One hundred and fifty-nine physicians of KAMC were recruited in a cross-sectional study. They were asked to complete a questionnaire by face-to-face interview. The questionnaire was designed to capture physicians' knowledge and ability to manage RFS based on the awarding of certain scoring points. Results: The level of knowledge among physicians had a significant association between knowledge and age (p = 0.021) and medical specialty (p = 0.010). Additionally, the most knowledgeable physicians were those who work in critical care (21.4%). Around 18% of physicians were not able to manage RFS. Conclusions: Lacking knowledge of RFS and how to manage it leads to critical life-threatening complications. Acute or chronic side effects of hyperglycemia may affect all systems and organs, such as sexual glands. Approximately 90 percent of diabetic patients suffer from sexual dysfunction, including libido and fertility. This study is designed to investigate the effect of diabetes on the sex hormones levels ad to evaluate the ameliorative effect of dandelion leaves powder (DLP) on diabetes-induced changes of gonadal hormones and glucose serum levels in male rats. Experimental diabetes mellitus was induced by subcutaneous injection with 65mg streptozotocin STZ/kg body weight. DLP was given in pelleted food at ratio of 5% for 28 days. DLP was effective in lowering Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) serum level in dandelion-treated rats compared to controls in diabetic group. DLP was also able to reverse the progesterone lowering effect of diabetes. In all of the classes, the estrogen level did not show any noticeable difference. It is suggested that DLP can have a regulatory effect in male rats on diabetes-induced changes in gonadal hormone levels, especially progesterone. Our research has shown that long-term administration of DLP in the diabetes experimental model could be used as a good candidate for reproductive hormone deficiency therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
