Purpose: To compare optical and visual performances of two one-piece aspherical implanted intraocular lenses (IOLs) following phacoemulsification cataract surgery in a contralateral eye study. Methods: In this prospective randomized parallel-group study, 25 patients with bilateral age-related cataract were implanted in one eye with the EnVista IOL (MX60, Bausch & Lomb Corporations, Rochester, NY, USA) and the Acrysof IQ IOL (Acrysof IQ SN60WF, Alcon Surgical Laboratories, Fort Worth, TX, USA) in the other eye. Uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA, CDVA), refractive status, higher-orders aberrations (HOAs) in 5 and 6 mm pupil size, contrast sensitivity (CS) with and without glare, color vision status, and patient satisfaction were assessed in the two eyes at 1 and 3 months after surgery. Results: There was no significant difference in CDVA (P > 0.99), UDVA (P = 0.46), spherical equivalent refractive error (P = 0.63), CS with and without glare across different spatial frequencies, color vision, and root mean square (RMS) of aberrometric values between the two IOLs after 3-month follow-up. Spherical aberration with 5 and 6 mm pupil sizes (P = 0.02) and horizontal coma with a 6 mm pupil size (P < 0.001) were lower with the EnVista IOL. Patient's satisfaction showed no cases of dissatisfaction, and most patients were highly or moderately satisfied with both IOLs. Conclusion: The visual and optical performance of eyes implanted with the EnVista IOL or the Acrysof IQ IOL was similar, although the aberration profile differed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim - to evaluate the clinical efficacy and features of use new three-dimensional visualization system "NGENUITY' in surgery of cataract with implantation of "pre-loaded" intraocular lens "AcrySof IQ Ultrasert" (ALCON). Materials and methods. We investigated the clinical results of using a 3D visualization system "NGENUITY' cataract surgery in 100 patients (100 eyes) age of 64.3+6.1 years; 83 women and 17 men. Implanted monofocal IOLs "AcrySof IQ Ultrasert" company "Alcon" with a goal refraction Em+0,5 diopters with the use of navigation systems "VERION" (Alcon). Results. There were no intraoperative or postoperative complications. Examination of patients was carried out on 1 and 7 days and 1 and 3 months after surgery. The postoperative period was smooth, without injections. As a result of treatment, uncorrected visual acuity in the distance was 0.74+0.02 (0.2 to 1.0) and depended on the fundus condition. The average sphericules clinical refraction 0,38+0,47 dioptres. Refraction of the target was achieved in 91% of patients. Loss of corneal posterior epithelial cells was 3.8+1.5%. The results of the use of 3D imaging system "NGENUITY" in cataract surgery suggest that it has a number of significant advantages over the use of traditional methods of modern microsurgery. Summary. 1. A new three-dimensional visualization system "NGENUITY 3D Visualization System" provides the surgeon much more than just improved visuals. 2. Practical development and further technological development of the system "NGENUITY 3D Visualization System" opens new scientific and practical prospects in cataract surgery. 3. The use of the new system "ULTRASERT Preloaded IOL Delivery System" the implantation of a monofocal IOL significantly optimizes the surgery of cataracts. 4. New technological features of the system design "ULTRASERT Pre-loaded IOL Delivery System" enable to eliminate the risk of infection and damage to the lens, allow quick and stable placement in the capsular bag, a smooth postoperative period.

Purpose: To compare spherical aberration and contrast sensitivity function following implantation of four different foldable posterior chamber intraocular lenses (IOLs), namely Sensar, Akreos AO, Tecnis, and AcrySof IQ. Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 68 eyes of 68 patients with senile cataracts underwent phacoemulsification and IOL implantation with Sensar (n=17), Akreos AO (n=17), Tecnis (n=17), or AcrySof IQ (n=17). Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), spherical aberration and contrast sensitivity function (CSF) were compared among the study groups, 3 months after surgery. Results: There was no significant difference between the study groups in terms of age (P = 0.21). Mean postoperative BSCVA with Sensar, Akreos AO, Tecnis, and AcrySof IQ was 0.15±0.10, 0.12±0.9, 0.08±0.08, and 0.08±0.07 logMAR, respectively (P=0.08). Spherical aberration measured over a 4 mm pupil was significantly higher with Sensar and Akreos AO than the two other IOLs. The difference between Tecnis and AcrySof IQ was significantly in favor of the former IOL. Over a 6 mm pupil, spherical aberrations were comparable with Sensar and Akreos AO, furthermore spherical aberration was also comparable among eyes implanted with Akreos AO, AcrySof IQ, and Tecnis. Sensar yielded significantly inferior results as compared to Acrysof IQ and Tecnis. CSF with Sensar was inferior to the three aspheric IOLs at the majority of spatial frequencies. Tecnis yielded significantly better mesopic CSF at 1.5 and 3 cycles per degree spatial frequencies. Conclusion: Tecnis and AcrySof IQ provided significantly better visual function as compared to Sensar and Akreos AO, especially with smaller pupil size. However, this difference diminished with increasing pupil size.
