La norma ISO 9241-210 define la experiencia de usuario como las percepciones y respuestas de las personas, resultantes del uso o anticipación de uso de un producto, sistema o servicio. El presente trabajo se centra en el análisis crítico de los mitos comunes en el campo de la Experiencia de Usuario (de su sigla en inglés UX). Desde la investigación académica, por un lado, y la práctica profesional, por el otro, se busca desmitificar y evaluar la veracidad de estos mitos en el contexto actual. A tal efecto, se realiza una revisión de una amplia gama de fuentes, seleccionando los mitos más relevantes y debatidos en el campo de UX. Luego, se analiza cada mito detalladamente, proporcionando datos empíricos para respaldar o refutar su validez. Para llevar adelante este análisis, se consideran dos perspectivas principales, una centrada en las investigaciones de los referentes en UX, y la otra, en la experiencia de los profesionales de negocios. Así, bajo estas dos perspectivas, se analizan artículos científicos y trabajos de investigación sólidos, como así también, artículos y publicaciones en la web que presentan las prácticas a las que adhieren los profesionales de negocios. Finalmente, se ofrecen algunas conclusiones basadas en los hallazgos obtenidos que puedan contribuir al conocimiento en UX, y a la toma de decisiones en el diseño de experiencias de usuario.

En los últimos años, se exhibe un continuo crecimiento en el desarrollo de aplicaciones de mapas, de características de los usuarios que las utilizan y diversas situaciones en las que estas aplicaciones son utilizadas. Un diseño de interfaz único, es decir, que no admita cierto grado de adaptación, puede afectar la usabilidad de estas aplicaciones. Así, aquellas aplicaciones que permiten cambiar características relacionadas con la apariencia visual de los mapas presentados en estas aplicaciones pueden dar una mejor respuesta a las necesidades de diversos usuarios. Sin embargo, la relación entre los mapas móviles y la adaptabilidad de los mismos para atender las diversas preferencias y situaciones de uso de sus usuarios es un tema de investigación abierto. En esta investigación se realiza en primera instancia una revisión de trabajos enfocados en identificar y analizar características en las aplicaciones de mapas, que contribuyen con la adaptabilidad de los mismos. A partir de esta revisión, se selecciona en segunda instancia un conjunto de características de adaptabilidad para evaluar tres de las aplicaciones de mapas más usadas en dispositivos móviles. Luego, y para llevar a cabo la evaluación se definen y describen las actividades a ejecutar. Finalmente, se presenta el resultado de la evaluación y se ofrecen conclusiones al respecto señalando posible trabajo futuro.

Con el propósito de obtener una solución innovadora y centrada en el usuario, se deben estudiar en profundidad aquellos enfoques que prioricen la Experiencia del Usuario y la resolución exitosa de sus tareas. Existen propuestas dirigidas a diseñar productos y servicios que propician la empatía de sus usuarios. Design Thinking surge como un proceso destinado a crear soluciones que sean técnicamente factibles, organizacionalmente sostenibles y emocionalmente significativas. Queda claro que Design Thinking puede contribuir a encontrar una solución que enriquezca la experiencia de acceso e interacción, al comprender plenamente las necesidades del usuario. En el presente trabajo, se pone en práctica un proceso colaborativo que considera las fases de Design Thinking para mejorar la experiencia de uno de los perfiles de usuarios, relacionados al sitio web de la Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia Austral. Los resultados preliminares ponen en evidencia que el uso combinado de enfoques potencia la satisfacción del usuario y, la eficacia en la experiencia de navegación.

Summary: Climate change is one of several drivers of recurrent outbreaks and geographical range expansion of infectious diseases in Europe. We propose a framework for the co-production of policy-relevant indicators and decision-support tools that track past, present, and future climate-induced disease risks across hazard, exposure, and vulnerability domains at the animal, human, and environmental interface. This entails the co-development of early warning and response systems and tools to assess the costs and benefits of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures across sectors, to increase health system resilience at regional and local levels and reveal novel policy entry points and opportunities. Our approach involves multi-level engagement, innovative methodologies, and novel data streams. We take advantage of intelligence generated locally and empirically to quantify effects in areas experiencing rapid urban transformation and heterogeneous climate-induced disease threats. Our goal is to reduce the knowledge-to-action gap by developing an integrated One Health—Climate Risk framework.

La Realidad Aumentada y la Geolocalización constituyen dos de las nuevas tecnologías presentes en los dispositivos móviles que son muy utilizadas por los usuarios de aplicaciones turísticas. Sin embargo, el desarrollo de aplicaciones que integren dichas tecnologías no es una tarea sencilla. Al implementar una aplicación de este tipo surgen inconvenientes muy diversos, como la especificidad en la compatibilidad del hardware de los dispositivos con las librerías del software de desarrollo y la posibilidad de integración entre las distintas herramientas que proveen Realidad Aumentada y Geolocalización, entre otros. En este trabajo, se presenta y describe una experiencia que combina el uso de herramientas de Realidad Aumentada y Geolocalización. Los resultados se aplican al desarrollo de parte de las funcionalidades requeridas por una aplicación de turismo cultural, cuyo objetivo es revalorizar el patrimonio histórico de la ciudad de Caleta Olivia. Así, la interacción con la aplicación móvil ofrece Geolocalización para trazar la ruta a puntos de interés y, para enriquecer la experiencia, Realidad Aumentada basada en imágenes.

Al desarrollar un producto web (sitio, aplicación móvil o app), considerar la eXperiencia de Usuario (UX) es un factor clave al éxito del proceso de diseño. Un buen diseño de interfaz puede permitirle al usuario mantener una interacción más simple y eficiente con el producto web. Mientras que el diseño de la eXperiencia de Usuario (UX) es el proceso de lograr su satisfacción, mejorando la usabilidad, la facilidad de uso y el placer proporcionados en su interacción con el producto web. Por otra parte, si además, el producto ofrece propiedades de Diseño Web Responsivo (RWD), es mucho más probable que los visitantes desde dispositivos móviles experimenten una interacción más positiva que los incite a visitar y utilizar el produc-to nuevamente. Existen ciclos ágiles que consideran la UX en el desarrollo de un productos web, pero no incluyen específicamente propiedades que lo tornen responsivo a lo efectos de contribuir a la satisfacción del usuario que utiliza multidispositivos para interactuar con dicho producto. Por otra parte, con la aparición de la filosofía RWD, surgen varias propuestas para contribuir a que un producto sea responsivo, facilitando su uso desde cualquier tipo de dispo-sitivo. Ensamblar las fortalezas de UX y el RWD en el desarrollo de un producto web parece ser un enfoque prometedor para alcanzar la satisfacción de sus usuarios. En este trabajo se realizan análisis del estado-del-arte de los ciclos ágiles de desarrollo que consideran la UX, como así también, de las propuestas que consideran características multi-dispositivo en los productos web a desarrollar. De esta manera, se propone un enfoque inte-grador. El enfoque ensambla los beneficios del desarrollo multidispositivo en el ciclo de dise-ño UX, basados en la hipótesis de que el diseño responsivo contribuye a mejorar la UX en el desarrollo de producto web.

El uso de los dispositivos móviles ha experimentado un auge extraordinario en los últimos años. Asimismo, la utilización de las redes sociales ha tenido también una propagación insospechada, facilitada por la masificación de los dispositivos móviles. Estos dispositivos plantean un nuevo escenario, en el cual el usuario puede estar en movimiento, en un lugar público o privado, con o sin conexión a internet y con una pantalla táctil y pequeña. Este contexto, nos presenta un nuevo desafío para el diseño de las interfaces móviles, y en particular para los usuarios adultos mayores, quienes padecen las dificultades propias de su edad. En este trabajo, se propone un conjunto de 22 recomendaciones de diseño para mejorar la experiencia de los usuarios adultos mayores cuando interactúan con las redes sociales desde dispositivos móviles, y en particular, dispositivos del tipo tablet. A los efectos de ejemplificar la aplicación de las recomendaciones propuestas, se desarrolló un prototipo de red social y se ejecutaron una serie de pruebas con usuarios, que permitieron validar las recomendaciones. Los resultados de este trabajo demostraron que es factible diseñar una red social que se enfoque en considerar las preferencias y necesidades de los adultos mayores.

Día a día, son más los usuarios que se inician en el mundo de Internet, y es por este hecho, que los sitios y aplicaciones Web deben estar concebidos atendiendo a las características y capacidades diferentes que propone la diversidad humana. Por otra parte, el uso generalizado de dispositivos móviles se ha convertido en la preferencia de los ciudadanos modernos para acceder e interactuar con la Web. Esta situación agrega aún más complejidad al desarrollo de sitios y aplicaciones que respondan a las necesidades de los usuarios Web, incluyendo al universo de las personas con discapacidad. En este sentido, existen numerosas áreas que se enfocan en mejorar el acceso y la interacción de las personas con la Web, tales como la Accesibilidad y la Usabilidad. En este trabajo nos enfocamos en desarrollar un prototipo para el sitio Web móvil de la Unidad Académica Caleta Olivia (UACO) de la Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia Austral (UNPA) considerando al usuario como el centro del diseño y desarrollo. Con esta filosofía en mente, se define un marco de trabajo para el desarrollo del prototipo incorporando recomendaciones de Usabilidad y Accesibilidad Web de referentes internacionales y aplicando herramientas para el diseño inclusivo dirigido a dispositivos móviles.

Abstract Background Recently, magnetic and inertial measurement units (MIMU) based systems have been applied in the spine mobility assessment; this evaluation is essential in the clinical practice for diagnosis and treatment evaluation. The available systems are limited in the number of sensors, and neither develops a methodology for the correct placement of the sensors, seeking the relevant mobility information of the spine. Methods This work presents a methodology for analyzing a system consisting of sixteen MIMUs to reduce the amount of information and obtain an optimal configuration that allows distinguishing between different body postures in a movement. Four machine learning algorithms were trained and assessed using data from the range of motion in three movements (Mov.1—Anterior hip flexion; Mov.2—Lateral trunk flexion; Mov.3—Axial trunk rotation) obtained from 12 patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Results The methodology identified the optimal minimal configuration for different movements. The configuration showed good accuracy in discriminating between different body postures. Specifically, it had an accuracy of 0.963 ± 0.021 for detecting when the subject is upright or bending in Mov.1, 0.944 ± 0.038 for identifying when the subject is flexed to the left or right in Mov.2, and 0.852 ± 0.097 for recognizing when the subject is rotated to the right or left in Mov.3. Conclusions Our results indicate that the methodology developed results in a feasible configuration for practical clinical studies and paves the way for designing specific IMU-based assessment instruments. Nas organizações públicas, a gestão do conhecimento ganha importância à medida que se buscam eficiência e eficácia na prestação dos serviços. Dessa forma, essa pesquisa busca compreender como se dá o compartilhamento do conhecimento no âmbito da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido, UFERSA. Esta pesquisa é qualitativa, caracterizada como estudo de caso. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas a nove servidores em diferentes setores da instituição. Para análise dos dados foi utilizada a técnica de análise de conteúdo, e a exploração e codificação do material foi realizada por meio do software ATLAS.TI. Com base nas análises foi possível identificar as dificuldades vivenciadas pelos servidores quando mudam de setor, tais como: inexistência de compilado normativo, dificuldades em entender a rotina em virtude da ausência de ferramenta de consulta, rotinas integralmente tácitas, dentre outros. Conheceu-se ainda que as dificuldades apresentadas são consequência da transmissão do conhecimento realizada em grande parte por meio da socialização (de conhecimento tácito para tácito). Foi possível conhecer também a necessidade de compartilhamento do conhecimento por meio da internalização (de conhecimento explícito para tácito). Nesse sentido, ficou evidente a importância de uma efetiva gestão de conhecimento na UFERSA.

Abstract Background Viral respiratory infections may precipitate type 1 diabetes (T1D). A possible association between the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus responsible for COVID-19, and the incidence of T1D is being determined. This study was carried out using Portuguese registries, aiming at examining temporal trends between COVID-19 and T1D. Methods Hospital data, comparing the incidence before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, from children and young adults diagnosed with new-onset T1D, was acquired beginning in 2017 and until the end of 2022. Data was obtained from nine different Portuguese hospital units. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, beginning in March 2020, was assessed comparing the annual numbers of new-onset T1D cases. The annual median levels of glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and fasting C-peptide at T1D diagnosis were compared. The annual number of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) episodes among new T1D cases was also assessed at two centers. Results In total, data from 574 newly diagnosed T1D patients was analyzed, including 530 (92.3%) children. The mean ages for child and adult patients were 9.1 (SD 4.4) and 32.8 (SD 13.6) years, respectively. 57.8% (331/573) were male, one patient had unknown sex. The overall median (25–75 percentiles) levels of glucose, HbA1c and fasting C-peptide at diagnosis were 454 mg/dL (356–568), 11.8% (10.1–13.4) and 0.50 µg/L (0.30–0.79), respectively. DKA at T1D diagnosis was present in 48.4% (76/157). For eight centers with complete 2018 to 2021 data (all calendar months), no overall significant increase in T1D cases was observed during the COVID-19 pandemic, i.e. 90 cases in 2018, 90 cases in 2019, 112 in 2020 and 100 in 2021 (P for trend = 0.36). Two of the centers, Faro (CHUA) and Dona Estefânia (CHULC) hospitals, did however see an increase in T1D from 2019 to 2020. No significant changes in glucose (P = 0.32), HbA1c (P = 0.68), fasting C-peptide (P = 0.20) or DKA frequency (P = 0.68) at the time of T1D diagnosis were observed over the entire study period. Conclusion The T1D incidence did not increase significantly, when comparing the years before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, nor did key metabolic parameters or number of DKA episodes change.

Objetiva-se examinar a Ação Direta de Inconstitucionalidade n. 6281, que versou sobre a liberdade de expressão e as restrições espacial, temporal e quantitativa da propaganda eleitoral paga em veículos de comunicação impressa e na Internet. A questão jurídica de fundo é a isonomia dos postulantes na disputa eleitoral ante o binômio direito à informação/liberdade de expressão. O problema de pesquisa é: quais as premissas e/ou os argumentos desenvolvidos na ADI 6281 sobre as restrições à propaganda eleitoral paga como manifestação da liberdade de expressão? Adotou-se uma metódica reconstrutiva dos principais argumentos suscitados na ADI 6281. A partir dos argumentos da peça inicial proposta pela Associação Nacional dos Jornais, realizou-se o cotejo com as razões de direito que fundamentaram a decisão do Supremo Tribunal Federal. As principais conclusões dos votos da maioria do Tribunal Pleno indicam que tais restrições não comprometem a liberdade de expressão dos candidatos nem a liberdade de imprensa, pois a propaganda eleitoral é vista como um produto comercializável, não como atividade jornalística. Além disso, as restrições promovem a pluralidade e igualdade nos anúncios, contribuindo para a diversidade político-partidária e devem ser baseadas em princípios de direito público para o fortalecimento da democracia, sem se submeter aos interesses comerciais privados.

Neste artigo, nosso objetivo é abordar as diferenças na gramática do espanhol e do português brasileiro no que concerne à expressão do sujeito. Diferentes trabalhos abordaram esse tema no espanhol (Fanjul, 2014; Fernández Soriano, 1999; Groppi, 2015a; 2015b; Luján, 1999) e no português brasileiro (Duarte, 2018a; 2018b; Galves, 2001; Kato, 2002; Tarallo, 2018), língua que passou por um processo de variação e mudança linguística. Tecemos uma análise de uma entrevista concedida pelo presidente Lula ao jornal espanhol El País a fim de demonstrar as diferenças entre as duas línguas a partir da comparação dos sujeitos produzidos na fala de Lula e sua tradução ao espanhol.

Conflict of interest: No Introduction and Objectives: Hepatic steatosis associated with metabolic dysfunction (MASLD) has a prevalence of 30% worldwide, and 80% of these patients do not present alterations in liver biochemistry. One of the cardiometabolic criteria is having glycosylated hemoglobin ≥5.6%, so an analysis was carried out using the ADA criteria for the diagnosis of prediabetes with HbA1C levels 5.7% - 6.4% and the degree of liver fibrosis. Objectives: Compare the values of glycosylated hemoglobin and fibrosis determined by Transient Elastography. Patients / Materials and Methods: Patients with MASLD criteria were included who underwent Transient Liver Elastography (Fibroscan ® 630 Expert v10720), APRI, FIB4, NAFLD score, blood count, liver biochemistry, lipid profile, glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, clotting times. (TP, INR). It was compared with a control of healthy people. For statistical analysis, SPSS V24 was used for continuous quantitative variables expressed as mean and percentage, with moderate Spearman's Rho correlation. Results and Discussion: Seventy-five patients with steatosis determined by CAP ≥ 232 were included. The age of the patients was 45 (40, 50).Patients were classified as healthy (HbA1C 6.5%), and patients with a previous diagnosis of diabetes were classified as diabetic controlled (HbA1C 7%), HbA1C levels were 5.7% (5.4%-5.9%). According to the MASLD criteria, 25 patients had HbA1C < 5.6% and 50 with HbA1C > 5.6% or with treatments for T2D.Sixty-five patiens (86.7%) had no fibrosis, and 10 (13.3%) had fibrosis, with 5.1 kPa (4.3 kPa, 6.5 kPa).Although no association was found between the degree of steatosis and the degree of fibrosis, the patient with the highest level of fibrosis presented the highest degree of steatosis. X2= 8.916, p=0.178No association was found between the degree of steatosis and diabetes.X2= 11.723,p=0.068However, the degree of diabetes is associated with the presence of fibrosis and the degree of fibrosis, with a weak positive correlation existing between HbA1C levels and CAP levels, Spearman's rho 0.280 p=0.015. Tables 1 and 2Although no assessment was found between BMI and kPa to determine if there is an association between the degree of fibrosis and the nutritional level, curiously, it can be observed that a healthy patient with grade 3 fibrosis has uncontrolled diabetes. Table 3 Conclusions: Prediabetes may be a predictor of the presence of liver fibrosis associated with MASLD.

Objective: to understand the feelings and recognitions of older adults when they experience the use of smartphones in everyday life, as well as the implications for the healthy aging process. Method: qualitative research, using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology; the Senior Technology Acceptance & Adoption Model and the methodological framework of Constructivist Grounded Theory. We intentionally recruited people aged 60+; smartphone users; participants for 6 months or more in an extension project, without cognitive impairment, determined by theoretical sampling. A semi-structured script guided data collection. Constant and concomitant comparative analysis followed the steps of initial and focused coding, supported by memos, until theoretical saturation. The Sankey diagram was used to analyze the data, using Atlas.ti software. Results: 37 participants were allocated to two sample groups. We present the category “Experiencing technological evolution during the aging process” and two subcategories: “Experiencing feelings when aging in the face of technological development”; “Using the smartphone and recognizing new experiences”. Conclusion: when experiencing the use of smartphones, older adult understand and recognize the search for digital skills based on their need for usefulness and applicability of information and communication technology in their daily lives, integrating it into the healthy ageing process.

Abstract Cancer metabolic reprogramming has been recognized as one of the cancer hallmarks that promote cell proliferation, survival, as well as therapeutic resistance. Up-to-date regulation of metabolism in T-cell lymphoma is poorly understood. In particular, for human angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) the metabolic profile is not known. Metabolic intervention could help identify new treatment options for this cancer with very poor outcomes and no effective medication. Transcriptomic analysis of AITL tumor cells, identified that these cells use preferentially mitochondrial metabolism. By using our preclinical AITL mouse model, mimicking closely human AITL features, we confirmed that T follicular helper (Tfh) tumor cells exhibit a strong enrichment of mitochondrial metabolic signatures. Consistent with these results, disruption of mitochondrial metabolism using metformin or a mitochondrial complex I inhibitor such as IACS improved the survival of AITL lymphoma-bearing mice. Additionally, we confirmed a selective elimination of the malignant human AITL T cells in patient biopsies upon mitochondrial respiration inhibition. Moreover, we confirmed that diabetic patients suffering from T-cell lymphoma, treated with metformin survived longer as compared to patients receiving alternative treatments. Taking together, our findings suggest that targeting the mitochondrial metabolic pathway could be a clinically efficient approach to inhibit aggressive cancers such as peripheral T-cell lymphoma.

Background: Digital inclusion of older people is an important agenda for the future and well-being of the older population, as it represents a form of social inclusion with significant gains for healthy aging. The present study aimed to understand the experiences of Brazilian older adults who use smartphones and the implications in their daily lives. Method: A qualitative study was developed using a constructivist grounded approach. Older people (≥60 years) with prior access to a smartphone were invited to participate in the study. Participation took place through semi-structured, audio-recorded interviews. Data collection and analysis occurred simultaneously using a constant comparative approach. Data management and analysis used the Atlas.ti® software. Results: Overall, 37 older people participated, with an average age of 70.60 ± 6.95 years, predominantly female (n = 33), white (n = 25), married (n = 26) and retired (n = 27). The first sample group included 27 older people with family support and the second group included 10 older people without family support (who lived alone in their homes). A core category emerged from the data analysis—“Expanding the personal and social development of older adults through smartphone communication”—around which three main categories emerged: 1) The smartphone as “a window to the world”; 2) The problem of misinformation and fake news on virtual networks; 3) Technological paradoxes in the use of smartphones. Conclusions: The digital transition associated with smartphone use brings unimaginable benefits to older adults who adopt positive habits to improve their well-being and expand their social connections, following efforts proposed by the Decade of Healthy Aging. However, older adults still face disparities and experience a significant digital divide, which represents a major challenge. Barriers to access are further aggravated in developing countries. We hope this study contributes to public health policies on digital inclusion and healthy aging.

Abstract Purpose Arthroplasty registers can provide feedback information on the results of arthroplasties performed by a certain institution or surgeon. The use of real‐world data to achieve real‐world evidence can help evaluate the performance of the implants used and help counsel our patients. The main objective of our study was to determine the survivorship of the total knee implant we are currently using. Methods A retrospective cohort study of patients who received a total knee arthroplasty from January 2009 to December 2020 in our hospital was conducted, using data from the Catalan arthroplasty registry and the Catalan health service database. Background/purpose(s): During a viral infection, the immune response is mediated by the toll-like receptors and myeloid differentiation Factor 88 (MyD88) that play an important role sensing infections such as SARS-CoV-2 which has claimed the lives of more than 6.8 million people around the world. Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional with a population of 618 SARS-CoV-2-positive unvaccinated subjects and further classified based on severity: 22% were mild, 34% were severe, 26% were critical, and 18% were deceased. Toll Like Receptor 7 (TLR7) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (rs3853839, rs179008, rs179009, and rs2302267) and MyD88 (rs7744) were genotyped using TaqMan OpenArray. The association of polymorphisms with disease outcomes was performed by logistic regression analysis adjusted by covariates. Results: A significant association of rs3853839 and rs7744 of the TLR7 and MyD88 genes, respectively, was found with COVID-19 severity. The G/G genotype of the rs3853839 TLR7 was associated with the critical outcome showing an Odd Ratio = 1.98 (95% IC = 1.04–3.77). The results highlighted an association of the G allele of MyD88 gene with severe, critical and deceased outcomes. Furthermore, in the dominant model (AG + GG vs. AA), we observed an Odd Ratio = 1.70 (95% CI = 1.02–2.86) with severe, Odd Ratio = 1.82 (95% CI = 1.04–3.21) with critical, and Odd Ratio = 2.44 (95% CI = 1.21–4.9) with deceased outcomes. Conclusion: To our knowledge this work represents an innovative report that highlights the significant association of TLR7 and MyD88 gene polymorphisms with COVID-19 outcomes and the possible implication of the MyD88 variant with D-dimer and IFN-α concentrations.

The current diversity management literature highlights a lack of empirical investigations into nuanced diversity characteristics within specific contexts, with a predominant focus on the USA, Europe, and Asia. This article addresses these gaps by exploring the intricate relationship between interpretations of workforce diversity dimensions and ensuing diversity management practices, shaping perceptions of inclusion or exclusion. Workplace diversity is viewed subjectively, influenced by contextual factors like industry and location. A case study was conducted in June 2022 within a Japanese automotive company, gathering qualitative data through techniques such as semi-structured in-depth interviews and non-participant observations were made during two guided visits. AtlasTi was utilized for the analysis of results. Findings reveal that socio-economic differences' interpretation is swayed by power imbalances in labor relationships. Diversity management practices aligned with the dominant group exacerbate inequality among demographic groups, establishing metaphorical «glass ceilings» for minorities and fostering exclusion perceptions. Considering the case study’s limitations, the research contributes to the diversity management discourse, prompting a reevaluation of practices to mitigate unintentional inequality perpetuation in the workplace.

ABSTRACT Objective: To grasp the meaning of perinatal palliative care for the multidisciplinary team. Methods: This is a qualitative study guided by content analysis. The study included 56 health professionals working in maternal and child units of a public university hospital. A semi-structured interview was conducted, which was recorded and subsequently fully transcribed. The collection took place from June 2018 to May 2019. Data were entered and exported to Atlas ti: The Qualitative Date Analysis & Research Software, version 23.1.1.0. Results: Four thematic categories emerged from the data analysis: palliative care and eligible public in the view of professionals; communication between family and team in decision-making; assistance in palliative care; humanized care. Conclusions: The professionals think of palliative care in Perinatology in a similar way and perceive the difficulties of communication with the family and decision-making. They agree that it is necessary to provide greater support to the family, and to provide comfort measures, either for the non-viable fetus or for the baby eligible for palliative care.

El objetivo del artículo es analizar formalmente los paisajes digitales que se reproducen a través de las pantallas. Se han tenido en cuenta los modelos generados en el paisaje tradicional, la irrupción del algoritmo y la IA, para examinar los nuevos modos de ver y de relacionarse con estas escenas. La metodología empleada, de corte cualitativo, se ha basado en el análisis descriptivo y comparativo de distintos casos; se ha combinado la recogida de datos procedentes de textos de especialistas del paisaje como J. Maderuelo, A. Roger, G. R. Milani con el análisis directo de fondos de pantalla y obras de artistas como Magritte, Ansel Adams, Carleton Watkins, Cynthia Daignault, Corinne Vionnet, Joan Fontcuberta y algunas entrevistas realizadas a los profesionales implicados. En cuanto a las conclusiones obtenidas, gravitan en tormo a dos ideas fundamentales: la pervivencia de los modelos clásicos y su transformación en estereotipos encaminados al consumo masivo.

Background: The worldwide community has shown significant interest in researching the management of Long COVID. However, there is scarce evidence about the daily experiences of people living with Long COVID and their insights into the healthcare services provided to them. Aims: This study aims to understand the experience of Long COVID sufferers with their symptoms and in accessing health services. Method: We employed Charmaz's grounded theory methodology, informed by constructivism, and applied the COREQ guidelines for qualitative research. Sixty-six Brazilians living with Long COVID participated in the study. The data was collected using semi-structured telephone interviews and analyzed using a constant comparative process. Findings: The findings refer firstly to the consequences of persistent Long COVID symptoms. Secondly, they describe how the disease trajectory required Long COVID sufferers to reorganize their routines and develop adaptive strategies. Lastly, they reflect a diverse array of both positive and negative interactions inside the healthcare system conveyed by individuals suffering from Long COVID. These elements converge towards the core category of the study: “The limbo of Long COVID sufferers: between the persistence of symptoms and access to health services”. Conclusions: Long COVID is characterized by its varied nature, including a range of physical and emotional repercussions experienced by individuals. There is a need for enhanced comprehension and discourse about Long COVID across several domains, including the general public, policy-making entities, and healthcare professionals. In this sense, the development of specialized services or the reinforcement of existing services to support long COVID sufferers is imperative.

Abstract The epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a central role in the development of cancer metastasis and resistance to chemotherapy. However, its pharmacological treatment remains challenging. Here, we used an EMT‐focused integrative functional genomic approach and identified an inverse association between short‐chain fatty acids (propionate and butanoate) and EMT in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Remarkably, treatment with propionate in vitro reinforced the epithelial transcriptional program promoting cell‐to‐cell contact and cell adhesion, while reducing the aggressive and chemo‐resistant EMT phenotype in lung cancer cell lines. Propionate treatment also decreased the metastatic potential and limited lymph node spread in both nude mice and a genetic NSCLC mouse model. Further analysis revealed that chromatin remodeling through H3K27 acetylation (mediated by p300) is the mechanism underlying the shift toward an epithelial state upon propionate treatment. The results suggest that propionate administration has therapeutic potential in reducing NSCLC aggressiveness and warrants further clinical testing.

Abstract Background Pesticides, mainly organophosphates (OP), have been related to increased risk of pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and pemphigus foliaceus (PF), nevertheless, their measurement has not been determined in pemphigus patients. Objective To evaluate pesticide exposure and pesticide measurement, comparing PV, PF and control groups in Southeastern Brazil. Methods Information about urban or rural residency and exposure to pesticides at the onset of pemphigus was assessed by questionnaire interview; hair samples from the scalp of PV, PF, and controls were tested for OP and organochlorines (OC) by gas-phase chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. Results The minority of PV (2 [7.1%] of 28) and PF (7 [18%] of 39), but none of the 48 controls, informed living in rural areas at the onset of pemphigus (p = 0.2853). PV (33.3%), PF (38.5%), and controls (20%) informed exposure to pesticides (p = 0.186). Twenty-one (14.8%) of 142 individuals tested positive for OP and/or OC: PV (2 [6.3%] of 32) and PF (11 [25.6%] of 43) had similar pesticides contamination as controls (8 [11.9%] of 67) (p = 0.4928; p = 0.0753, respectively), but PF presented higher contamination than PV (p = 0.034). PV did not present any positivity for OP. Three (7%) PF tested positive for both OP and OC. Some PF tested positive for three or four OP, mainly diazinon and dichlorvos. Study limitation Lack of data for some controls. Conclusion Although the frequency of PV and PF patients exposed to pesticides was similar, pesticides were more frequently detected in hair samples from PF compared to PV. The cause-effect relationship still needs to be determined.

IntroductionSerine proteases play a critical role during SARS-CoV-2 infection. Therefore, polymorphisms of transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2) and serpine family E member 1 (SERPINE1) could help to elucidate the contribution of variability to COVID-19 outcomes.MethodsTo evaluate the genetic variants of the genes previously associated with COVID-19 outcomes, we performed a cross-sectional study in which 1536 SARS-CoV-2-positive participants were enrolled. TMPRSS2 (rs2070788, rs75603675, rs12329760) and SERPINE1 (rs2227631, rs2227667, rs2070682, rs2227692) were genotyped using the Open Array Platform. The association of polymorphisms with disease outcomes was determined by logistic regression analysis adjusted for covariates (age, sex, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and obesity).ResultsAccording to our codominant model, the GA genotype of rs2227667 (OR=0.55; 95% CI = 0.36-0.84; p=0.006) and the AG genotype of rs2227667 (OR=0.59; 95% CI = 0.38-0.91; p=0.02) of SERPINE1 played a protective role against disease. However, the rs2227692 T allele and TT genotype SERPINE1 (OR=1.45; 95% CI = 1.11-1.91; p=0.006; OR=2.08; 95% CI = 1.22-3.57; p=0.007; respectively) were associated with a decreased risk of death. Similarly, the rs75603675 AA genotype TMPRSS2 had an OR of 1.97 (95% CI = 1.07-3.6; p=0.03) for deceased patients. Finally, the rs2227692 T allele SERPINE1 was associated with increased D-dimer levels (OR=1.24; 95% CI = 1.03-1.48; p=0.02).DiscussionOur data suggest that the rs75603675 TMPRSS2 and rs2227692 SERPINE1 polymorphisms are associated with a poor outcome. Additionally, rs2227692 SERPINE1 could participate in hypercoagulable conditions in critical COVID-19 patients, and this genetic variant could contribute to the identification of new pharmacological targets and treatment strategies to block the inhibition of TMPRSS2 entry into SARS-CoV-2.

Objective. To assess the compliance in secondary and tertiary level hospitals with monthly reporting of antibiotic consumption to the Colombian National Public Health Surveillance System (SIVIGILA-INS), and to describe reported antibiotic consumption during 2018–2020. Methods. This study involved a secondary analysis of antibiotic consumption data reported to SIVIGILA-INS. Frequency of hospital reporting was assessed and compared against expected reports, disaggregated by intensive care units (ICU)/non-ICU wards and geographical regions. Consumption was expressed as defined daily dose (DDD) per 100 occupied beds for seven antibiotics. Results. More than 70% of hospitals reported antibiotic consumption at least once in each of the three years (79% in ICU and 71% in non-ICU wards). Of these, ICU monthly reporting was complete (12 monthly reports per year) for 59% in the period 2018–2019 but only 4% in 2020. Non-ICU reporting was complete for 52% in 2019 and for 2% in 2020. Most regions had an overall decrease in reporting in 2020. Analysis of antibiotic consumption showed an increase for piperacillin/tazobactam, ertapenem, and cefepime from 2019 to 2020. Conclusions. There were gaps in the consistency and frequency of reporting. Efforts are needed to improve compliance with monthly reporting, which declined in 2020, possibly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Non-compliance on reporting and data quality issues should be addressed with the hospitals to enable valid interpretation of antibiotic consumption trends.

It is difficult to capture the unique and complex travel behaviour of students due to differences in demographics and locations. Students’ trips contribute to Jakarta’s traffic, yet it is an area that has been rarely explored. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the transport mode choice and factors affecting the travel behaviour of Universitas Trisakti students. The results show that despite living in Jakarta, a motorcycle and car-dominated city, they prefer to use sustainable transport. Public transport is the most common mode, followed by motorcycles, walking, cars, and ride-hailing, but not cycling, unlike their peers in other Indonesian cities. Students with more vehicles in their families and with licenses tend to use motorcycles and cars to go to campus. Moreover, student allowances are found to have a positive and significant influence on walking and ride-hailing choices. In terms of motorcycle use, male students are more likely to use them than female students. Travel distance and travel time also affect the choices of walking, motorcycles, and ride-hailing, whereby the longer the distance and travel time, the less likely students are to choose those transport modes over public transport. In addition, a positive regression is found between transport expenses and the choice of cars or ride-hailing. In conclusion, policies and infrastructure, such as parking fees and bicycle lanes, as well as better public transport and walking facilities, are needed to ease traffic and create a better campus environment.

AbstractThis qualitative study presents 27 students’ insights about four teachers’ implementation of an immersive Native American history curricular unit designed to equip students with digital skills to critically navigate complex, polarizing social issues. The Digital Civic Learning (DCL) curriculum used Google Suite and Google Classroom or Schoology to provide collaborative slides supporting immersive 2D-graphics, children’s books/resources, immersive activities/artefact-creation, and multimodal tools (e.g., discussion posts, Flipgrid video-essays). Teachers regulated student thinking/behavior towards cohesive outcomes, and encouraged open-ended exploration, operationalizing the design framework as a zone of proximal development (ZPD). The history unit incorporates four cybernetic design features (DF) that enable teachers to steer student-centered collaboration within the curricular unit. The teacher serves four diverse roles (guide, facilitator, modeler, participant observer) mapping onto the DF. Results of focus group interviews with students, which were analyzed based on a theory-informed coding scheme and narrative inquiry, suggest ways for social studies teachers to operationalize the DCL immersive history unit as a cybernetic ZPD by adapting its basic structure to technologies accessible in their schools by adapting its basic structure to technologies accessible in their schools.

O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar as consequências da pandemia sobre o agronegócio brasileiro e a sua relação com o Produto Interno Bruto (PIB). Por meio de uma análise de planilhas divulgadas pelo CEPEA e um estudo dos indicadores de endividamento e rentabilidade de dezoito empresas do ramo do agronegócio, listadas no setor de consumo não cíclico da B3 S.A. A coleta dos dados financeiros das empresas foi por meio da base de dados Economática. A pesquisa é caracteriza como descritiva e quantitativa, com procedimento documental, cujo recorte longitudinal de análise dos dados foi feito entre 2019 e 2020, visto que representa o espaço temporal de maior impacto para os indicadores, em decorrência da pandemia da Covid-19. Para se estabelecer a relação entre o índice econômico (PIB) e os indicadores econômico-financeiros das empresas do agronegócio, a pesquisa utilizou a Correlação de Pearson como ferramenta estatística. Os achados do estudo indicam que 89% das empresas do agronegócio aumentaram suas receitas no ano da pandemia, através da demanda por commodities agrícolas. Uma alta no valor agregado do setor foi evidenciada com inserção de novos mercados internacionais, favorecido através do aumento do dólar. O agronegócio se mostrou forte e eficaz através de sua participação de 26,6% no PIB do país, essa foi sua maior marca na série histórica, mostrando que o agronegócio é um setor resiliente, promissor e competitivo mesmo em meio a uma crise sanitária e econômica.

O objetivo geral do presente estudo foi verificar a satisfação dos discentes do curso de Ciências Contábeis da Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa descritiva, quantitativa, com corte transversal e viabilizada mediante survey. O instrumento de coleta de dados foi um questionário composto por três blocos aplicado a 169 discentes. Procedeu-se a utilização de Análise Fatorial Confirmatória e Modelagem de Equações Estruturais que possibilitou submeter à prova as relações entre os construtos. Os resultados obtidos e confrontados permitiram concluir que, quanto maior for a demanda do curso, maior será o envolvimento do professor, quanto maior o envolvimento do professor, maior a satisfação geral e quanto maior o interesse do estudante, maior a satisfação geral, tendo em vista que o nível de satisfação dos discentes foi considerado satisfatório e positivo. Dessa forma, três das oito hipóteses levantadas no estudo, foram confirmadas.

Objetivo: examinar las repercusiones de la pandemia en el sistema familiar enfocándose en la perspectiva de familiares que han contraído y padecido COVID-19. Método: estudio exploratorio de enfoque cualitativo realizado con 27 personas que tuvieron COVID-19. Los datos se recolectaron por medio de entrevistas telefónicas que se grabaron en audio y estuvieron guiadas por un instrumento semiestructurado. El análisis se basó en un proceso inductivo respaldado por Análisis Temático Reflexivo. Resultados: la pandemia y el hecho de que un familiar contrajera la enfermedad fueron fuerzas impulsoras que generaron movilizaciones nuevas e intensas en el sistema familiar. Inicialmente, notaron repercusiones negativas como preocupaciones, temor, angustia, estrés, distanciamiento y aislamiento social. Con el paso del tiempo y empleando tecnologías para facilitar la comunicación, comenzaron a percibir repercusiones positivas como más cercanía, fortalecimiento de vínculos, desarrollo de nuevos roles y cuidado mutuo. Las familias también identificaron que recuperaban una posición de equilibrio, con retorno de cierto reajuste en la dinámica y el funcionamiento familiar. Conclusión: los profesionales de la salud deben admitir que la enfermedad por COVID-19 ha generado repercusiones en los sistemas familiares, además de proponer intervenciones que ayuden a las familias a hacer frente a este momento y a recuperar más fácilmente una posición de equilibrio para su buen funcionamiento.

Resumo: Neste trabalho, nosso objetivo é apresentar os resultados de nossas pesquisas sobre o objeto acusativo anafórico na variedade de espanhol de Madri e na variedade do português brasileiro de São Paulo, assim como sugerir uma análise teórica para essas construções a partir dos desenvolvimentos minimalistas (CHOMSKY, 1999, 2000, 2004). Analisamos entrevistas da variedade de espanhol de Madri (CESTERO MANCERA et al. 2014) e do português brasileiro (LIMA-HERNANDES; VICENTE, 2012). Como referencial teórico, aliamos as perspectivas biológica (CHOMSKY, 1981, 1986) e social de língua (LABOV, 2008; WEINREICH; LABOV; HERZOG, 2009). Observamos a atuação da referencialidade do antecedente, do traço de indefinitude do determinante, da ausência de determinante, da estrutura verbal e do aspecto lexical na possibilidade de elipses na variedade de espanhol de Madri. Em relação à variedade do português brasileiro de São Paulo, observamos objetos nulos quase categóricos e que os pronomes lexicais apresentam restrições na expressão de antecedentes menos referenciais. Esses resultados se assemelham aos de nossa pesquisa anterior (SIMÕES, 2015) e às variedades de espanhol do País Basco (LANDA, 1993) e de Quito (SUÑER; YÉPEZ, 1988). Abstract: In this paper, our aim is to present the results of our researchs about the anaphoric accusative object in the Spanish variety of Madrid and in the Brazilian Portuguese variety of São Paulo and to propose a theoretical analysis to these constructions based on minimalist developments (CHOMSKY, 1999, 2000, 2004). Interviews of the Spanish variety of Madrid (CESTERO MANCERA et al. 2014) and Brazilian Portuguese variety of São Paulo (LIMA-HERNANDES; VICENTE, 2012) were analysed. Regarding the theoretical approach, the biological (CHOMSKY, 1981, 1986) and social (LABOV, 2008; WEINREICH; LABOV; HERZOG, 2009) perspectives on language were combined. We observed the effect of the antecedent referenciality, of the determinant indefinite features, of the bare nouns, of the structure and lexical aspect of verbs on possibility of elipsis in the Spanish variety of Madrid. Concerning the Brazilian Portuguese variety of São Paulo, the null objects were almost categorical and the lexical pronoun presented restrictions to less referencial antecedents. These results ressemble the tendencies of our previous research (SIMÕES, 2015) and the Spanish varieties of País Vasco (LANDA, 1993) and Quito (SUÑER; YÉPEZ, 1988). In light of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, leaders of higher education institutions around the world have been contemplating ways to help their universities engage in a digital transformation that must have student engagement and learning as the foremost considerations. This study reports on the work conducted at a university in Colombia that created an evaluation instrument based on the Academic Communities of Engagement (ACE) framework (Borup et al., 2020) to examine how well the institution was supporting the affective, behavioral, and cognitive (ABC) dimensions of engagement in its online and blended learning course offerings. This survey, the ACE in Higher Education (ACE-HE), measures indicators of the ABC engagement dimensions as well as indicators of institutional support for those elements. The survey was completed by 1,295 university students representing a broad demographic profile. Structural equation modeling found good fit for both the model of ABC engagement dimensions and the model of institutional support for ABC engagement dimensions. Institutional support for affective engagement showed strong relationships to affective, behavioral, and cognitive indicators of engagement, while institutional support for behavioral and cognitive engagement did not have the same outcome. This research provides access to both English and Spanish versions of the ACE-HE instrument. It also highlights ideas for institutions that want to improve their support for student ABC engagement dimensions in online and blended environments. Finally, several implications for making updates to the ACE framework are shared.

Introduction: Cocaine use disorder is a significant public health issue without a current specific approved treatment. Among different approaches to this disorder, it is possible to highlight a promising immunologic strategy in which an immunogenic agent may reduce the reinforcing effects of the drug if they are able to yield sufficient specific antibodies capable to bind cocaine and/or its psychoactive metabolites before entering into the brain. Several carriers have been investigated in the anti-cocaine vaccine development; however, they generally present a very complex chemical structure, which potentially hampers the proper assessment of the coupling efficiency between the hapten units and the protein structure. Objectives: The present study reports the design, synthesis and preclinical evaluation of two novel calix[n]arene-based anti-cocaine immunogens (herein named as V4N2 and V8N2) by the tethering of the hydrolysis-tolerant hapten GNE (15) on calix[4]arene and calix[8]arene moieties. Methods: The preclinical assessment corresponded to the immunogenicity and dose–response evaluation of V4N2 and V8N2. The potential of the produced antibodies to reduce the passage of cocaine analogue through the blood–brain-barrier (BBB), modifying its biodistribution was also investigated. Results: Both calix[n]arene-based immunogens elicited high titers of cocaine antibodies that modified the biodistribution of a cocaine radiolabeled analogue (99mTc-TRODAT-1) and decreased cocaine-induced behavior, according to an animal model. Conclusion: The present results demonstrate the potential of V4N2 and V8N2 as immunogens for the treatment of cocaine use disorder.
