Academic discourse on food justice and sustainable food consumption needs to be informed by empirical contributions and heterogenous conceptualisations from diverse parts of the world. This paper broadens the dialogue with a variety of voices and knowledges, rooting itself not only in the specific political and social context, but also the discursive and epistemic traditions of Brazil, which stand in dialogue with international discourses. Firstly, an analysis is offered of the multi‐stakeholder process that since the mid‐1990s shaped the discourse, theorisation and policy making on food justice and sustainable food consumption in Brazil. Emerging from this process were globally leading Brazilian policy initiatives such as Zero Hunger, the School Feeding Program, the progressive Food Guide, and co‐crafted concepts such as comida de verdade. The institutional architecture for this discourse, the National Food Council and regular conferences, were dismantled in 2019 after a change in government. Secondly, the paper presents data from 30 interviews with key stakeholders from civil society, policy, business, media and celebrity influencers, conducted at the time of the dissolution. Three key subdiscourses on sustainable food consumption emerge: access, with an emphasis on right to food; health; and re‐conhecimento, a term we use to articulate the confluence of multiple knowledges and consciousnesses, including an insistence on the cultural role of food. Throughout the interviews, co‐crafted concepts and phrases emerging from the multistakeholder process reverberated. The paper argues that the multi‐stakeholder process resulted not just in a coherent shared discourse, concepts and policy during a period of conducive policy environment, but also in collective resilience. The invisible edifice of shared ideas and commitments around this public issue is still intact and may be reactivated in future. In times of increased political polarisation, not just in Brazil, this is an important argument for investing in such long‐term multi‐stakeholder dialogue processes. This paper analyses the distinct multi‐stakeholder process which shaped the discourse, theorisation and policy making on food justice and sustainable food consumption in Brazil. It presents data from 30 interviews with key stakeholders, from which three sub‐discourses emerge: access; health; and re‐conhecimento. The paper argues that although the multi‐stakeholder forums crafting this discourse were dismantled in 2019 after a change in government, the process of co‐crafting has resulted in key concepts and a shared vision which demonstrate collective epistemic resilience. - Abstract
Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) populations sampled across various geographic regions show fine-scale patterns of genetic structure, likely associated with local habitat preferences. Several population genetic studies have focused on populations from the northeast Atlantic Ocean (NEA), very few including the Portuguese coast. This study investigated the population structure and demographic history of the bottlenose dolphin in this region using double digest restriction site associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD-seq). Samples were collected from the Iberian Peninsula including SW Spain, the Portuguese coast (including Sado estuary), NW Spain and from two Portuguese Macaronesian archipelagos, Madeira and Azores (N=110 samples). We genotyped thousands of single nucleotide polymorphisms markers to study the fine-scale population structure, inbreeding levels and demographic history. Bayesian clustering and Principal Component Analyses showed three major genetic clusters: Pelagic (incl. Madeira and Azores; North Galicia, Portugal coast), Southern/Mediterranean (incl. Gibraltar/Cadiz, previously identified as of Mediterranean origin, and Portugal coast), and Resident (Sado and south Galicia). These clusters differ from each other in terms of genetic diversity and inbreeding levels. While the Pelagic and Southern/Med clusters shows high genetic diversity and a wide geographic distribution, the Resident populations show the opposite. The Resident cluster can be subdivided in Galicia and Sado populations, the latter revealing concerning levels of inbreeding. Preliminary demographic analyses suggest that the Resident populations diverged from the others prior to the Southern/Med-Pelagic divergence, although further analyses are needed. Our results suggest that i) the Resident populations of the Iberian Peninsula should be considered as different management units; ii) bottlenose dolphins sampled along the Portuguese coast are highly genetically diverse, including individuals

ABSTRACT - Occupational health in veterinary medicine: risks and their mitigation in the use of antineoplastic drugs in clinical practice - Antineoplastic drugs are associated with several adverse and harmful effects to health, so veterinarians responsible for their preparation and administration are at increased risk of suffering these consequences. Therefore, the rules for the safe use of these drugs and personal protective equipment play an important role in reducing or even preventing this risk. This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of veterinarian doctors in Portugal about the hazards associated with the handling of antineoplastic drugs and to know the practices the practices used by them in this same handling. To this end, a survey was prepared and made available digitally. Data were also collected about the way professionals deal with cancer patients and the communication of risks and guidance for the tutors of these animals. The data obtained in the survey revealed that 76% of the participants were under 40 years of age. The majority (70.7%) do not have specific training related to the inherent risks of the use of antineoplastic drugs and more than half (56.9%) revealed that in their workplace any professional who performs functions related to the manipulation of these drugs also does not receive any training. It was found that the frequency of chemotherapy procedures in each clinical center is low, but even so, 20.7% of the participants revealed that chemotherapy procedures are performed in their workplace several times a week and 22.4% once a week, thus resulting in exposure to antineoplastic drugs and the resulting occupational risk. Regarding the use of personal protective equipment, 32% revealed that they only used gloves and a mask when handling these drugs, with the degree of protection of most respondents being low. The results now presented show the need to invest in training and raising awareness among veterinarian doctors and other veterinarian workers regarding the safe use of anticancer drugs and the consequent reduction in occupational risk that results from this N/A

Poverty, inequality, lacking access to rights are all a reality in the chabolas and suburbia areas in Brazil, and they all directly affect the quality of life in these territories where, in spite of the situation, smaller initiatives for a more sustainable future do exist. This investigation discusses what we call ‘social crossroads of innovation’ (Rufino 2019), which are interventions that take place in the tears of the system and which work as a manner of transgression/objection by established institutions. These are led by a social entrepreneur who works “in a Brazilian fashion”— also known as virador (Souza Neto 2003) —whose objection can be identified by looking at their new manners to make, know, frame and organize everything (Haxeltine et al. 2016) as presented in 3 cases: Barkus, a social company for financial education for both youth and adults; G10, a network of the 10 chabolas with the most purchasing power in Brazil; and Olabi, a space for technology democratization for social transformation. With these as starting point, we have identified 7 lessons on the key characteristics of this type of social innovation. To conclude, we argue that social crossroads of innovation in Brasil are engines for social transformation which help pave the way for alternate future models focused on sustainable development at the local level, as well as quality of life improvements for vulnerable populations.

- Abstract
This research is an international study to evaluate the mobilisation and practice of sustainable consumption in global South contexts through an examination of systems of food provision and regulation, everyday consumer habits, trends and fashions, and the potential of digital technologies influencing food consumption. It draws on comparative case study research in Brazil, China, and South Africa. The three countries offer case studies in Guangzhou, Johannesburg and Rio do Janeiro where there is robust evidence of growing and strong middle classes, through which it is possible to explore the different ways in which sustainable consumption is defined, performed, practised and mobilised in global South countries. They also offer comparisons of the potential of different drivers of sustainability, with contrasting institutional political structures, forms of non-governmental action, foodscapes and provisioning mechanisms. The data collection includes transcript data from food consumers and food system actors and survey data from consumers.

The Arctic is rapidly transforming into a navigable ocean because of global warming reducing the extent of sea ice. As a consequence, a large percentage of the sailing distance between Europe and Asia could be saved by alternatively sailing through the Arctic rather than the traditional route via the Suez Canal. However, taking Arctic routes is fraught with risks and additional costs due to sea ice. The major purpose of this study is to develop a voyage planning tool to improve the safety and fuel efficiency of commercial ships sailing between Europe and Asia via the Arctic, which is achieved by voyage optimization through frequently updated meteorological, oceanographic and ice forecasting. This tool is characterized by route planning for the entire voyage, inclusive of the Arctic passage and the open water legs in Asia and Europe. A single-objective optimization for minimizing fuel consumption under various environmental and operational conditions is established. The resistance model accounts for both ice thickness and ice concentration of unconsolidated Arctic sea ice in the summer. Ice related risks defined in the Polar Operational Limit Assessment Risk Indexing System (POLARIS) are dealt as constraint. Other constraints such as avoidance of land and shallow water are also included. These functions are demonstrated by the two case study vessels sailing between Rotterdam and Shanghai via both the Arctic and the traditional routes.

Objective: To compare brain metabolism using [
18 F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([18 F]FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in total thyroidectomy patients during hypothyroidism (levothyroxine withdrawal) or under recombinant human thyroid-stimulating hormone (rhTSH) against levothyroxine intake. Methods: A total of 12 patients were randomly divided into two groups. One group underwent the first [18 F]FDG PET/CT brain scan after levothyroxine withdrawal (hypothyroidism condition) and repeated the scan 6 months later during regular levothyroxine intake (replacement condition). The other group underwent the first [18 F]FDG PET/CT scan after receiving an rhTSH injection and maintained regular levothyroxine intake (rhTSH condition), and repeated the scan 7 months later during regular levothyroxine intake without rhTSH administration. The intra-group regional brain metabolisms were compared. Results: Under the hypothyroidism condition, brain metabolism was significantly reduced, namely in the bilateral pre-frontal, temporal, anterior cingulate, and primary motor cortices, insula, and striatum (uncorrected voxelwise p < 0.005); No significant differences were found between the rhTSH and replacement conditions. Conclusion: rhTSH administration could be a better option than levothyroxine withdrawal for131 I treatment, serum thyroglobulin measurement, or radioiodine scanning for patient follow-up. The paper presents a decision-support tool for maritime operations in Arctic seas. This tool targets at improving the safety and fuel efficiency of existing and future cargo vessels that are designed to operate in Arctic and in open water conditions. It is achieved by smart voyage planning using meteorological, oceanographic and ice forecasting. A single-objective optimization for minimizing the fuel consumption in various scenarios of Arctic transits is established, with the transit time and the safety as the two major constraints. The tool is implemented in an in-house Matlab code, which is based on Dijkstra’s algorithm, a grid-based approach that aims at finding the most cost-efficient path connecting any chosen nodes in a given grid. Results from case studies along the Northern Sea Route indicate that the tool generates appropriate routes in ice-infested Arctic waters. The fuel consumption accounting for ice-induced extra resistance is optimized and the risk of collision with icebergs has been considered.

This work is the result of an intensive analysis of the phenomenon of violence against women and is aimed to work as a mean of prevention and construction of several risk indicators that make it possible to detect these situations. The studied phenomenon refers to a gender inequality, historically constituted and culturally rooted in Portuguese society. Being a concept of great complexity, it should not be analyzed in a slight way due to the nature of the actors, either themselves or aggressively. Thus, the perception of the phenomenon that can be considered as a factor in the subject's life over the years, subject to variations and behavioral changes that can be detected with the passage of time, is revealed. The related questions to deepen and problematize this study were: • How is crime-fighting services a situation where the perpetrator is in danger? • What is the impact generated in life through work? In order to be able to participate in the work of the vitim in Faro Office, it is necessary to have a positive attitude on the ground. This analysis was based on semi-structured interviews, taking into account the vocabulary used, various categories or aspects of this phenomenon in order to recognize and understand the domestic violence impact on abused women. The methodology used was based on a qualitative approach. This study further focuses on a literature book on domestic violence, relying on Erving Goffman's Theory of Statute for a definition of categories according to a review of the state of the art in the context of this phenomenon.
