No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-01-01 This study characterizes the changes in leaf mass, morphological composition and nutritional value of leaf blades of palisadegrass (Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu) under continuous grazing in the first year of implementation of pasture and after second year of the eucalyptus planting in an Integrated Crop-Livestock System and Integrated Crop-Livestock-Forest, which were tested in the four seasons. The experimental design was in random blocks, with three treatments: Crop-Livestock System (ICL) and Integrated Crop-Livestock-Forest with two eucalyptus tree densities (ICLF-1L, 196 eucalyptus trees ha-1 and ICLF-3L, 448 eucalyptus trees ha-1) and four replicates. Sixty castrated Nellore cattle with initial weight of 235.43 ± 25.46 kg and mean age of 16 ± 2.81 months were used during the growing phase under continuous grazing. The agronomic variables were: total dry mass of forage, leaves, stem and dead material; leaf: stem and live: senescent material ratios; and accumulation rate. The leaf: stem and live: senescent material relation did not obtain any difference between the evaluated systems. Dry matter, crude protein, fiber fractions and digestibility of leaf blades were evaluated. Dry mass of the forage (6775 kg ha-1), stem (2175 kg ha-1), senescent material (3175 kg ha-1) and dry matter content (28.6%) were greater in the ICL, whereas crude protein (11.3%) was greater in the ICLFs. On the other hand, accumulation rate and dry mass of leaf blades did not change between systems. Thus, until the first year of grazing, tree systems have advantages, because the forage production (accumulation rate) and leaf mass are similar to those of plants in full sun, besides showing higher nutritional value. Alevinos de aproximadamente 1,4 g, oriundos de populações de machos revertidos, foram mantidos em três sistemas de recirculação. Cada sistema contendo contém seis caixas d’água de 0,5 m³, em três temperaturas (22, 28 e 30ºC). Foram coletados dez peixes de cada tratamento. Os peixes foram insensibilizados, eutanasiados e pesados. Foram realizadas amostragens das regiões da musculatura dorsal, do pedúnculo caudal, do tecido adiposo subcutâneo ventral e visceral. Lâminas histológicas foram confeccionadas e avaliadas para determinar o diâmetro das células. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 3 X 3 (linhagem X temperatura). A análise de variância foi realizada e as médias foram comparadas. Maiores pesos foram encontrados para os peixes cultivados a 30ºC (56,23 g), quando comparados àqueles cultivados a 28 (42,12 g) ou 22ºC (10,52 g). A temperatura resfriada da água (22ºC) pode ter contribuído para a hipertrofia das fibras musculares brancas e dos adipócitos viscerais das tilápias, quando comparada a 28 ou 30ºC. As linhagens de tilápia Vermelha, GIFT e Supreme apresentam diferenças de crescimento do tecido muscular e adiposo em resposta à temperatura de cultivo. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of temperature on the tissue growth of Red, GIFT and Supreme tilapia strains. Fingerlings of approximately 1.4 g from male populations were reared for a period of 60 days, in three recirculating systems, each system containing 6 water tanks of 0.5 m³, at three temperatures (22, 28 and 30ºC). Ten fish of each recirculation system and each temperature studied were sampled. Fishes have been anesthetized, euthanized and weighed. The samplings have been done from the dorsal musculature, caudal, visceral and ventral subcutaneous adipose tissue. Histological sections were prepared and evaluated to determine the diameter of the cells. The experimental design was completely randomized factorial 3 X 3 (strain X temperature). Analysis of variance was performed and means were compared. Higher weights were found for fish reared at 30°C (56.23 g) compared to those grown at 28 (42.12 g) or 22°C (10.52 g). The cooled water temperature (22°C) may have contributed to the hypertrophy of white muscle fibers and visceral adipocytes from tilapia, compared to 28 or 30ºC. Red Tilapia, GIFT and Supreme strains show differences in muscle growth and adipose tissues in response to temperature of cultivation. Precipitation of Cu and co-precipitation of Cd in the presence of Cu were noted, being indicative of differences in nominal and actual concentrations of metals. Under these conditions, LC50-96h was determined as 3.53 mg L-1 Cu, 20.1 mg L-1 Cd and 1.36 mg L-1 (Cu + Cd). Besides the quantitative determinations of total dissolved metals in water, considerations on Cd/Cu interactions in aquatic media were presented, allowing the assessment for metals speciation. Data revealed that alkalinity, hardness, dissolved organic carbon and formation of inorganic complexes reduce metal availabilities, mainly in relation to Cu. In spite of this, the LC50 for Cd was significantly reduced in the presence of Cu, matching environmental realistic values. Based on simulated fate of metals, hardness may impair a reduction of 18 and 2% in metal activities, respectively to Cu and Cd. The experiment was conducted during the 2007/08 season on a raw sugarcane area harvested without prior burning in the last five cuts. A randomized block design with treatments arranged in a split plot and arranged in four replications was used. The main treatments consisted of three cropping systems: conventional tillage, minimum tillage and direct planting, and subplots consisted in the absence (resting) or presence of crop rotation with peanuts. After 135 days from planting peanuts and 180 days of sugarcane harvest, the number of weeds m-2 was counted and the shoot dry biomass of the weeds collected was determined. The data were interpreted by analysis of variance and the means were compared by Tukey’s test at 5% probability so that phytosociological indices a, b, c e d were calculated. The use of soil conservation tillage and peanut in rotation with sugarcane in the renovation areas is effective in controlling weeds and suppression of weed species difficult to control like Cyperus rotundus, Commelina bengalensis, Urochloaplantaginea, and Digitaria nuda. Observation on fruit quality under greenhouse were carried out in the experimental station of Pajalillos of ICIA - Instituto Canario de Investigaciones Agrarias on a plot planted with in vitro plants of two cultivars (‘Grand Nain’ and ‘Gruesa’) in their fifth crop cycle, cultivated under four greenhouse covers: Celloclim (thermic plastic), 20 × 10 mesh, white mesh and 16 × 10 mesh. Data were also collected in open air cultivation in 3 different locations of Tenerife: Cueva del Polvo, Hoya Meleque and Canaria Forestal. Nutrients levels in the dry mass of ‘Gruesa’ and ‘Grand Nain’ banana leaf did not show differences between cultivars nor among different greenhouse covers. The parameters analysed related to fruit quality were not also influenced by covers or cultivars and nor relevant differences were also detected between open air condition and greenhouse cultivation.
