Abstract: The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,717 new measurements from 869 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Most of the 120 reviews are updated, including many that are heavily revised. The Review is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and 97 review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 23 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings. The complete Review (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group (pdg.lbl.gov) and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the PDG Book. A Particle Physics Booklet with the Summary Tables and essential tables, figures, and equations from selected review articles is available in print, as a web version optimized for use on phones, and as an Android app. The 2024 edition of the Review of Particle Physics should be cited as: S. Abstract: A multi-TeV muon collider offers a spectacular opportunity in the direct exploration of the energy frontier. Offering a combination of unprecedented energy collisions in a comparatively clean leptonic environment, a high energy muon collider has the unique potential to provide both precision measurements and the highest energy reach in one machine that cannot be paralleled by any currently available technology. The topic generated a lot of excitement in Snowmass meetings and continues to attract a large number of supporters, including many from the early career community. In light of this very strong interest within the US particle physics community, Snowmass Energy, Theory and Accelerator Frontiers created a cross-frontier Muon Collider Forum in November of 2020. The Forum has been meeting on a monthly basis and organized several topical workshops dedicated to physics, accelerator technology, and detector R&D. Findings of the Forum are summarized in this report.

Abstract: We present a collection of signatures for physics beyond the standard model that need to be explored at the LHC. First, are presented various tools developed to measure new particle masses in scenarios where all decays include an unobservable particle. Second, various aspects of supersymmetric models are discussed. Third, some signatures of models of strong electroweak symmetry are discussed. In the fourth part, a special attention is devoted to high mass resonances, as the ones appearing in models with warped extra dimensions. Finally, prospects for models with a hidden sector/valley are presented. Our report, which includes brief experimental and theoretical reviews as well as original results, summarizes the activities of the "New Physics" working group for the "Physics at TeV Colliders" workshop (Les Houches, France, 8-26 June, 2009)., Comment: 189 pages

Abstract: The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 3,283 new measurements from 899 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as heavy neutrinos, supersymmetric and technicolor particles, axions, dark photons, etc. All the particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We also give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Supersymmetry, Extra Dimensions, Particle Detectors, Probability, and Statistics. Among the 112 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised including those on: Dark Energy, Higgs Boson Physics, Electroweak Model, Neutrino Cross Section Measurements, Monte Carlo Neutrino Generators, Top Quark, Dark Matter, Dynamical Electroweak Symmetry Breaking, Accelerator Physics of Colliders, High-Energy Collider Parameters, Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, Astrophysical Constants and Cosmological Parameters. Abstract: This report discusses several topics in both top quark physics and QCD at an International Linear Collider (ILC). Issues such as measurements at the $t\bar{t}$ threshold, including both theoretical and machine requirements, and the determination of electroweak top quark couplings, are reviewed. New results concerning the potential of a 500 GeV $e^+e^-$ collider for measuring $Wtb$ couplings and the top quark Yukawa coupling are presented. The status of higher order QCD corrections to jet production cross sections, heavy quark form factors, and longitudinal gauge boson scattering, needed for percent-level studies at the ILC, are reviewed. A new study of the measurement of the hadronic structure of the photon at a $\gamma\gamma$ collider is presented. The effects on top quark properties from several models of new physics, including composite models, Little Higgs theories, and CPT violation, are studied., Comment: 39 pages, many figs; typos fixed and refs added. Abstract: This is the report of neutrino and astroparticle physics working group at WHEPP-8. We present the discussions carried out during the workshop on selected topics in the above fields and also indicate progress made subsequently. The neutrino physics subgroup studied the possibilites of constraining neutrino masses, mixing and CPT violation in lepton sector from future experiments. Neutrino mass models in the context of abelian horizontal symmetries, warped extra dimensions and in presence of triplet Higgs were studied. Effect of threshold corrections on radiative magnification of mixing angles was investigated. The astroparticle physics subgroup focused on how various particle physics inputs affect the CMBR fluctuation spectrum, and on brane cosmology. 18. A note on CFT dual of RS model with gauge fields in bulk

Abstract: It has been conjectured that the (weakly coupled) Randall-Sundrum (RS) model with gauge fields in the bulk is dual to a (strongly coupled) 4D conformal field theory (CFT) with an UV cut-off and in which global symmetries of the CFT are gauged. We elucidate features of this dual CFT which are crucial for a complete understanding of the proposed duality. We argue that the limit of no (or small) brane-localized kinetic term for bulk gauge field on the RS side (often studied in the literature) is dual to no bare kinetic term for the gauge field which is coupled to the CFT global current. In this limit, the kinetic term for this gauge field in the dual CFT is ``induced'' by CFT loops. Then, this CFT loop contribution to the gauge field 1PI two-point function is dual (on the RS side) to the full gauge propagator (i.e., including the contribution of Kaluza-Klein and zero-modes) with both external points on the Planck brane. We also emphasize that loop corrections to the gauge coupling on the RS side are dual to sub-leading effects in a large-N expansion on the CFT side; these sub-leading corrections to the gauge coupling in the dual CFT are (in general) sensitive to the strong dynamics of the CFT., Comment: Latex, 18 pages. 19. Gauge coupling renormalization in RS1

Abstract: We compute the 4D low energy effective gauge coupling at one-loop order in the compact Randall-Sundrum scenario with bulk gauge fields and charged matter, within controlled approximations. While such computations are subtle, they can be important for studying phenomenological issues such as grand unification. Ultraviolet divergences are cut-off using Pauli-Villars regularization so as to respect 5D gauge and general coordinate invariance. The structure of these divergences on branes and in the bulk is elucidated by a 5D position-space analysis. The remaining finite contributions are obtained by a careful analysis of the Kaluza-Klein spectrum. 20. Universal Extra Dimensions and b -> s gamma

Abstract: We analyze the effect of flat universal extra dimensions (i.e., extra dimensions accessible to all SM fields) on the process b -> s gamma. With one Higgs doublet, the dominant contribution at one-loop is from Kaluza-Klein (KK) states of the charged would-be-Goldstone boson (WGB) and of the top quark. The resulting constraint on the size of the extra dimension is comparable to the constraint from T parameter. In two-Higgs doublet model II, the contribution of zero-mode and KK states of physical charged Higgs can cancel the contribution from WGB KK states. Therefore, in this model, there is no constraint on the size of the extra dimensions from the process b -> s gamma and also the constraint on the mass of the charged Higgs from this process is weakened compared to 4D. In two Higgs doublet model I, the contribution of the zero-mode and KK states of physical charged Higgs and that of the KK states of WGB are of the same sign. Thus, in this model and for small tan beta, the constraint on the size of the extra dimensions is stronger than in one Higgs doublet model and also the constraint on the mass of the charged Higgs is stronger than in 4D., Comment: Latex, 8 pages, 2 eps figs. included. 21. Can extra dimensions accessible to the SM explain the recent measurement of anomalous magnetic moment of the muon?

Abstract: We investigate whether models with flat extra dimensions in which SM fields propagate can give a significant contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon (MMM). In models with only SM gauge and Higgs fields in the bulk, the contribution to the MMM from Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations of gauge bosons is very small. This is due to the constraint on the size of the extra dimensions from tree-level effects of KK excitations of gauge bosons on precision electroweak observables such as Fermi constant. If the quarks and leptons are also allowed to propagate in the (same) bulk (``universal'' extra dimensions), then there are no contributions to precision electroweak observables at tree-level. However, in this case, the constraint from one-loop contribution of KK excitations of (mainly) the top quark to T parameter again implies that the contribution to the MMM is small. We show that in models with leptons, electroweak gauge and Higgs fields propagating in the (same) bulk, but with quarks and gluon propagating in a sub-space of this bulk, both the above constraints can be relaxed. However, with only one Higgs doublet, the constraint from the process b -> s gamma requires the contribution to the MMM to be smaller than the SM electroweak correction. 22. Charged Higgs decays in models with singlet neutrino in large extra dimensions

Abstract: In models with large extra dimensions and TeV scale quantum gravity, small (Dirac) neutrino masses can be obtained naturally if the right-handed neutrino propagates in the extra dimensions. In this scenario, with 2 Higgs doublets, we show that the decay of charged Higgs into {\em left-handed} charged lepton (say \tau) and right-handed neutrino can be significantly enhanced, with O(1) branching ratio, due to the large number of Kaluza-Klein states of the right-handed neutrino. Since \tau's from the standard decay of charged Higgs are {\em right-handed}, the above novel charged Higgs decay can provide a distinctive signature of these models at hadron/lepton colliders. 23. CLEO measurement of $B \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ and determination of weak phase $\alpha$

Abstract: The CLEO collaboration has recently reported a (first) measurement of $BR (B \to \pi^+ \pi^-) = (4.7^{+1.8}_{-1.5} \pm 0.6) \times 10^{-6}$. We study, using recent results on QCD improved factorization, the implications of this measurement for the determination of the CKM phase $\alpha$ and also for the rate for $B \to \pi^0 \pi^0$. If the $B \to \pi^-$ form factor is large $(\stackrel{>}{\sim} 0.3)$, then we find that the CLEO measurement favors small $|V_{ub}/V_{cb}|$ so that the expected error (due to neglecting the QCD penguin amplitude) in the measurement of $\alpha$ using {\em only} the time-dependent analysis of the decay $B \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ is large $\sim 15^{\circ}$. However, if $|V_{ub}/V_{cb}|$ is known, then it is possible to determine the correct value of $\sin 2 \alpha$., Comment: LaTeX file, 14 pages including 5 eps figures. 25. Limits on Low Scale Gravity from $e^+ e^- \to W^+ W^-, ZZ$ and $\gamma \gamma$

Abstract: It has been proposed recently that the scale of quantum gravity (``the string scale'') can be $M_S \sim$ few TeV with $n \geq 2$ extra dimensions of size $R \stackrel{<}{\sim}$ mm so that, at distances greater than $R$, Newtonian gravity with $M_{Pl} \sim 10^{18}$ GeV is reproduced if $M_{Pl}^2 \sim R^n M_S^{n+2}$. Exchange of virtual gravitons in this theory generates higher-dimensional operators involving SM fields, suppressed by powers of $M_S$. We discuss constraints on this scenario from the contribution of these operators to the processes $e^+ e^- \to W^+ W^-, ZZ, \gamma \gamma$. 27. Determining the Weak Phase $\gamma$ in the Presence of Rescattering

Abstract: We suggest a new technique to determine the CKM phase $\gamma$ {\em without} neglecting the (soft) final state rescattering effects. We use (time integrated) $B$ meson decay rates to $\pi$'s and $K$'s. A set of 5 $\Delta S = 0$ (or 1 $\Delta S =0$ and 4 $\Delta S= 1$) decay rates is used to compute the strong phases and magnitudes of the tree level and penguin contributions as functions of $\gamma$. These are used to {\em predict} a $\Delta S = 1$ $(\Delta S = 0) B_{d/s}$ decay rate as a function of $\gamma$ (using SU(3) symmetry). The measurement of this decay rate then gives $\gamma$. We illustrate this technique using different cases. 28. Supersymmetry Breaking and the Supersymmetric Flavour Problem: An Analysis of Decoupling the First Two Generation Scalars

Abstract: The supersymmetric contributions to the Flavor Changing Neutral Current processes may be suppressed by decoupling the scalars of the first and second generations. It is known, however, that the heavy scalars drive the stop mass squareds negative through the two-loop Renormalization Group evolution. This tension is studied in detail. Two new items are included in this analysis: the effect of the top quark Yukawa coupling and the QCD corrections to the supersymmetric contributions to $\Delta m_K$. Even with Cabibbo-like degeneracy between the squarks of the first two generations, these squarks must be heavier than $\sim 40$ TeV to suppress $\Delta m_K$. This implies, in the case of a high scale of supersymmetry breaking, that the boundary value of the stop mass has to be greater than $\sim 7$ TeV to keep the stop mass squared positive at the weak scale. Low-energy supersymmetry breaking at a scale that is of the same order as the mass of the heavy scalars is also considered. In this case the finite parts of the two-loop diagrams are computed to estimate the contribution of the heavy scalar masses to the stop mass squared. It is found that for Cabibbo-like mixing between the squarks, the stop mass at the boundary needs to be larger than $\sim 2$ TeV. Thus, for both cases, the large boundary value of the stop masses leads to an unnatural amount of fine tuning to obtain the correct $Z$ mass., Comment: Latex, 40 pages, 14 figures. 29. Improving the Fine Tuning in Models of Low Energy Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

Abstract: The fine tuning in models of low energy gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking required to obtain the correct $Z$ mass is quantified. To alleviate the fine tuning problem, a model with split $(5+\bar{5})$ messenger fields is presented. This model has additional triplets in the low energy theory which get a mass of $O(500)$ GeV from a coupling to a singlet. The improvement in fine tuning is quantified and the spectrum in this model is discussed. The same model with the above singlet coupled to the Higgs doublets to generate the $\mu$ term is also discussed. A Grand Unified version of the model is constructed and a known doublet-triplet splitting mechanism is used to split the messenger $(5+\bar{5})$'s. 30. A Consistent model of Electroweak data including $Z\to b\overline{b}$ and $Z\to c \overline{c}$

Abstract: We have performed an overall fit to the electroweak data with the generation blind $U(1)$ extension of the Standard Model. As input data for fitting we have included the asymmetry parameters, the particle decay widths of $Z$, neutrino scattering, and atomic parity violation. The QCD coupling $\alpha_s$ has been constrained to the world average obtained from all data except the $Z$ width. On the basis of our fit we have constructed a viable gauge model that not only explains $R_b$ and $R_c$ but also provides a much better overall fit to the data than the Standard Model. Despite its phenomenological viability, our model is unfortunately not simple from the theoretical viewpoint. 32. $R$-Parity Violation in Flavor Changing Neutral Current Processes and Top Quark Decays

Abstract: We show that supersymmetric $R$-parity breaking ($\not R_p$) interactions always result in Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) processes. Within a single coupling scheme, these processes can be avoided in either the charge $+2/3$ or the charge $-1/3$ quark sector, but not both. These processes are used to place constraints on \Rp couplings. The constraints on the first and the second generations are better than those existing in the literature. 34. GUT and SUSY breaking by the same field

Abstract: We present a model in which the same modulus field breaks both SUSY and a simple GUT gauge group down to the SM gauge group. The modulus is stabilized by the inverted hierarchy mechanism in a perturbative region so that the model is calculable. This is the first example of this kind in the literature. All mass scales (other than the Planck scale) are generated dynamically. In one of the models doublet-triplet splitting is achieved naturally by the sliding singlet mechanism while another model requires fine tuning. The gauge mediation contribution to the right handed slepton (mass)(2) is negative. But, for the modulus vacuum expectation value close to the GUT scale, the supergravity contribution to the slepton (mass)(2) is comparable to the gauge mediation contribution and thus a realistic spectrum can be attained. Abstract: The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,143 new measurements from 709 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Among the 120 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised, including a new review on Machine Learning, and one on Spectroscopy of Light Meson Resonances.The Review is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and 97 review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 23 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings.The complete Review (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group (pdg.lbl.gov) and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the PDG Book. 39. Phase transitions from the fifth dimension

Abstract: We study the cosmological transition of 5D warped compactifications, from the high-temperature black-brane phase to the low-temperature Randall-Sundrum I phase. The transition proceeds via percolation of bubbles of IR-brane nucleating from the black-brane horizon. The violent bubble dynamics can be a powerful source of observable stochastic gravitational waves. While bubble nucleation is non-perturbative in 5D gravity, it is amenable to semiclassical treatment in terms of a “bounce” configuration interpolating between the two phases. We demonstrate how such a bounce configuration can be smooth enough to maintain 5D effective field theory control, and how a simple ansatz for it places a rigorous lower-bound on the transition rate in the thin-wall regime, and gives plausible estimates more generally. When applied to the Hierarchy Problem, the minimal Goldberger-Wise stabilization of the warped throat leads to a slow transition with significant supercooling. We demonstrate that a simple generalization of the Goldberger-Wise potential modifies the IR-brane dynamics so that the transition completes more promptly. Supercooling determines the dilution of any (dark) matter abundances generated before the transition, potentially at odds with data, while the prompter transition resolves such tensions. We discuss the impact of the different possibilities on the strength of the gravitational wave signals. Via AdS/CFT duality the warped transition gives a theoretically tractable holographic description of the 4D Composite Higgs (de)confinement transition. Our generalization of the Goldberger-Wise mechanism is dual to, and concretely models, our earlier proposal in which the composite dynamics is governed by separate UV and IR RG fixed points. The smooth 5D bounce configuration we introduce complements the 4D dilaton/radion dominance derivation presented in our earlier work.

Abstract: Muon colliders provide a unique route to deliver high energy collisions that enable discovery searches and precision measurements to extend our understanding of the fundamental laws of physics. The muon collider design aims to deliver physics reach at the highest energies with costs, power consumption and on a time scale that may prove favorable relative to other proposed facilities. In this context, a new international collaboration has formed to further extend the design concepts and performance studies of such a machine. This effort is focused on delivering the elements of a $\sim$10 TeV center of mass (CM) energy design to explore the physics energy frontier. The path to such a machine may pass through lower energy options. Currently a 3 TeV CM stage is considered. Other energy stages could also be explored, e.g. an s-channel Higgs Factory operating at 125 GeV CM. Abstract: Among the post-LHC generation of particle accelerators, the muon collider represents a unique machine with capability to provide very high energy leptonic collisions and to open the path to a vast and mostly unexplored physics programme. However, on the experimental side, such great physics potential is accompanied by unprecedented technological challenges, due to the fact that muons are unstable particles. Their decay products interact with the machine elements and produce an intense flux of background particles that eventually reach the detector and may degrade its performance. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 23 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings. The complete Review (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group (pdg.lbl.gov) and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the PDG Book. Abstract: The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,873 new measurements from 758 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Among the 118 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised, including a new review on Neutrinos in Cosmology.Starting with this edition, the Review is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and all review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings. Review articles that were previously part of the Listings are now included in volume 1.The complete Review (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group (http://pdg.lbl.gov) and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the PDG Book. A Particle Physics Booklet with the Summary Tables and essential tables, figures, and equations from selected review articles is also available.The 2018 edition of the Review of Particle Physics should be cited as: M.
