Water borehole failures in Nigeria's middle Benue Trough are caused by imprecise aquifer features. This study employed empirical data to understand hydraulic parameters, anticipate regional groundwater potential, and explain borehole failures in difficult geological locations. 89 VES stations and quantitative data interpretation were required to determine the geoelectric properties beneath each station. Aquifer layers were delineated and their resistivity and thickness combined using geo-environment specific relations to yield transmissivity, hydraulic conductivity for both basement complex and sedimentary environments variously. Results show that aquifer resistivity ranges from 4.5 – 984.4 ohm-m; aquifer layer thickness varies from 4.4 m – 96.7 m with average thicknesses in sedimentary environment considerably greater; hydraulic conductivities range from 0.056 – 30.15 m/day, Transmissivity values range from 0.31 – 1281.36 m2/day. Log transformed transmissivity values range from 3.51 – 7.1 m2/day. Approximately 60.34% of the entire study area falls within transmissivity magnitude III and IV and can only support withdrawals for local water supply adequate for small communities and private consumption only and this may be the inferred cause for the low yield and high borehole failure rates. Understanding hydraulic characteristics is critical for 6controlling groundwater; research advances knowledge of transmissivity and conductivity in complex terrain. Analysis of the impacts of real estate development on biodiversity within the confines of Imo State, Nigeria, was the main objective of this study. The investigation included a look at how land use and land cover (LULC) changed between 2017 and 2022. The study made use of Sentinel-2 image with a spatial resolution of 10 m. The research team used supervised classification algorithms to classify the imagery, which were then compared to find changes in land use and land cover (LULC). The following categories apply to the land use and land cover (LULC) of the study area: In 2017, trees accounted for 58.84 % of the total land surface and covered the most land, covering an area of 315.05 km2. The amount of developed land, or 30.23 % of the total land area, was assessed to be 161.84 km2. Approximately 61.91 % of the entire land surface in 2018, or 331.47 km2, was covered by arboreal vegetation, which dominated the landscape. Comparatively, urbanised regions made up 177.41 km2, or 33.14 % of the total land area. With trees making up 59.434 % or 318.22 km2 of the total land area in 2019, trees were found to be the most prevalent kind of land cover. Concurrently, built-up areas accounted for 34.30 % of the land, or 183.66 km2. The LULC map for 2020 showed a comparable pattern, with trees covering 58.46 % (equivalent to 313.02 km2) of the total land area and built-up areas covering 34.71 % (equivalent to 185.88 km2). According to the research, the impact of real estate development on the environment is primarily negative, resulting in habitat depletion, ecosystem fragmentation, and the introduction of pollutants. The researchers advised using sustainable development practises to mitigate the aforementioned negative effects.

In Nigeria, sawdust is continuously generated in large quantities as waste but majorly under-utilised, a situation which causes serious environmental problems and health hazards when managed improperly. This work focussed on production and assessment of hygrothermal properties of solid core sandcrete blocks in which sand is partially replaced with sawdust at 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% loading levels. Experiments were conducted on block samples made with untreated sawdust (USD) and on those similarly produced but with treated sawdust (TSD). The results showed that the blocks with USD content are capable of decreasing wall heat transmission load and improve energy efficiency of building envelopes better than their counterparts produced with TSD. In terms of compliance with standard bulk density and water absorption requirements, incorporation of USD or TSD at 20% or 10% level respectively, was found to be optimum for partial sand substitution in the studied block samples in order to suit the functional requirements of building structure and interior space. Since sawdust is cheaply and commonly available in vast amount, utilising it in sandcrete block production is a promising way of minimising its disposal problems while enhancing the development of safe, affordable, and sustainable housing.

One way of identifying our MFSs is to look out for shale tops of high acoustic properties within a shale interval that corresponds to the lowest resistivity values and widest separation between neutron and density values. The TSTs culminate to a MFS as it comprises the deposits accumulated from the onset of coastal transgression until the time of maximum transgression of the coast, just prior to renewed regression (SepmStrata, 20). The seismic character of the shales within these TSTs could vary factoring the effect of depth trends, hence a need to understand the trend with increasing depth and thereby increased compaction. From generated synthetic, using the seismic responses at interfaces within the lithologies cut across by one of our HP well in the Central Swamp depobelt, a study integrating Reflectivity Pattern Analysis (RPA) and Sequence Stratigraphic analysis was carried out to understand the behavior of our shales within the TSTs. Key bounding surfaces which subdivide the strata into contemporaneously deposited sediment packages were identified from well log responses from a complete suite of logs which included Gamma Ray, Resistivity and Porosity logs. It was observed that shales in the TSTs were of higher acoustic properties compared to sales in the HSTs.

The current study used vertical electrical sounding (VES), borehole (BH) data, Remote Sensing (RS), and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques to identify groundwater potential zones in the coastal area of Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria, for the first time. This research aimed at producing groundwater potential zone map that can divide the study region into separate zones based on their groundwater potential ranking. The deployed method integrated VES procedure utilizing the Schlumberger electrode configuration some core samples for estimation of porosity, Satellite Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), Digital Elevation Model (DEM), which served as input data for RS and GIS. Thematic maps of lineament density, lithology, land use and land cover, drainage density, and slope were created as GIS layers in a geo-database. Weightages were assigned based on a pair-wise assessment of the components that appear to be essential in retaining, storing, and transporting groundwater. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used in a GIS setting to merge five thematic maps of elements controlling groundwater occurrence and movement using weighted overlay. Results show that aquifers with high thickness and depths are clustering around VES 9, VES 14, and VES 15 that have the highest aquifer thickness in the range of 219–262 m and the highest aquifer depth in the range of 222.09–264.74 m. The highest aquifer resistivity in this area ranges from 2963 to 3683 Ωm. The hydraulic conductivity of the area is highest around the south-eastern part of the study area, with maximum value of 3.43 m/day. The transmissivity increases in the northern part of the study area, while the eastern parts showed the lowest values. The highest aquifer resistivity in this area ranged from 2963 to 3683 Ωm. Inference from analysis indicated that the most important element was soil type (43%), followed by lineament density (33%) and slope (13%). Land use/land cover was discovered as a marginal contributor to groundwater in the research region, accounting for about 4% of the total contributors. The study CR determined to be 0.043884, is much lower than the 0.10 consistency threshold and hence the justification of the results. The result of the overlay of the geophysical survey on the groundwater potential zones obtained from the RS, GIS, and VES techniques done in the first time in the study area has shown seamlessly that the study area has high groundwater prospectivity for subsistent and commercial extractions. Methane dexterity and degasification in heavily stratified subsurface water aquifers sandwiched with coal seams surreptitiously expedited the recent fire explosion in Enugu State, South Eastern Nigeria. The verisimilitude is to divulge the non-availability of coal bed methane (CBM) reservoir engineering modeling technology. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the didactic, luminous and effective volubility of CBM reservoir engineering modeling techniques for extrication of the wellbore fire explosion paradox in Enugu state, Nigeria. The Schlumberger Eclipse simulated reservoir has a dimension of 8 ×8×2 with dual porosity of 0.05 and 0.15 located at depths of 1,000ft, 1,200ft and 1,400ft. Results inconceivably showed improvement in coal quality by 72.83% in the y direction indicating increased methane palpitation upsurge in that direction. Results of initial 40% CO2 isotherm fracture gas gave a cumulative maximum field gas pressure (FPR) of 540psi for the 1,400ft model. This indicates higher gas volatility with shallow depths. It is admonished to critically evaluate aquifers in zones deeper than 700ft to forestall future petrifying devastating occurrences triggered by maladroitness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was designed to examine the feasibility of recycling cassava effluent, sawdust, and unused paper products to enhance their utilization for beneficial purpose. Waste newspaper paste (WNP), Waste writing – paper paste (WWP), and Waste carton paper paste (WCP) were prepared and then used separately to similarly fabricate composite panels with Sawdust particle (SDP) proportioned at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% by weight. The binder used was cassava starch slurry prepared from the effluent. Bulk density, water absorption, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, nailability, and flexural strength were determined for the developed samples. From the results obtained, the samples were found to be light-weight and their thermal insulation performance improved with increasing proportions of the SDP. Though samples containing the WCP exhibited the best satisfactory performance, it was found that all the studied samples could perform more effectively and efficiently as ceilings compared to some of those reported in the literature. From scientific-economic viewpoint, valorizing the above-mentioned wastes as described in this paper could help to protect the environment and also yield value-added insulation ceilings for enhancement of sustainable building construction especially in tropical areas. Groundwater is one of the most precious assets for supplying water to the world's population. The main goal of this research paper is to use the GIS technique to determine the best drilling sites for new groundwater wells, based on hydro-geoelectrical factors and using a weighted overlay approach. Weighted Overlay Approach (WOA) assessment is a geographical approach for analysing multiclass charts, that are influenced by the various relevances of every layer as well as the classification of a layer. The advantage of WOA is its ability to makes the more favourable criteria with the higher values in the output raster, that help thereafter identifying those locations as the priority. The aquifer hydro-geoelectrical parameters such as resistivity, thickness, depth, and transmissivity.obtained by using the vertical electrical sounding (VES) technique allow together to determine the best locations for drilling. The GIS technique is conjointly used herein to accurately identify the best location for the aquifers using the mentioned hydro-geoelectrical data. Weighted overlay has been applied to normalize the criteria layers, and blende to finally generate the suitability maps. The geospatial datasets are combined by using GIS to create and establish a suitability chart for determining efficient suitable locations for drilling successful water boreholes. The most suitable locations have been well recognized. The study area is divided into four categories: poorly suitable, fairly suitable, suitable, and excellently suitable. In this investigation, Clam, Periwinkle and Oyster shells were separately treated, calcined and ball-milled into nano powder. Each nano powder material was fabricated into disc of various lengths in three replicates. In each case, the electrical characteristics of the discs were determined. Electrical resistivity values obtained for test samples developed from Clam, Periwinkle and Oyster shells were found to be (6.024 ± 0.009) x 105 Ωm, (6.823 ± 0.030) x 105 Ωm, and (4.916 ± 0.007) x 105 Ωm respectively at a temperature of (25.0 ± 1.0oC). Also, electronic activation energy values were found to be 0.68eV, 0.61eV, and 0.76eV, while thermal sensitivity index values were obtained as 7850K, 7058K, and 8814K respectively for the samples fabricated from the shells of Clam, Periwinkle, and Oyster. The shell samples exhibit a negative temperature coefficient of resistance with values of - 8.83%/K, -7.94%/K and -9.92%/K for Clam, Periwinkle and Oyster shells respectively. These results provide data base on the electrical characteristics for the shells. It can be adjudged from the results that the shells are potential raw materials for NTC thermistor production.
