En el tiempo actual la epigenética y la enfermedad periodontal representan temáticas investigativas con cada vez mayor interacción entre sí. Objetivo: describir las características bibliométricas de las publicaciones encontradas en las diferentes bases de datos con relación a la epigenética en enfermedad periodontal. Métodos: este estudio bibliométrico desarrolló con el fin de poder recopilar la información que suministrada por los artículos científicos que trataran sobre epigenética y enfermedad periodontal, los cuales fueron recuperados mediante ecuaciones búsqueda en las bases de datos Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science y Google académico. Resultados: en los 169 artículos obtenidos para la investigación se observó que los continentes con más aportes al campo de la investigación fueron: Asia, América del Norte, Europa, América del Sur, seguidamente de Oceanía y por último África. De los países que presentaron mayor predominio en publicaciones se encontró a Estados Unidos, China, India, Japón y seguidamente a Brasil. Por otra parte, las instituciones que demostraron mayor aporte al área fueron University of Michigan, University of North Carolina Chapell Hill y Unversity of Campinas, entre otras. Asimismo, las revistas con mayor participación de publicaciones científicas fueron Journal of periodontal dental research y Journal of Peridontology. Por otra parte, se observó que los investigadores con mayor participación en publicaciones fueron De Souza AP y Lena Larsson. Por último, el tipo de estudio más usado por parte de los investigadores fue el de ‘revisión bibliográfica’ seguidamente de ‘casos y controles’. Conclusión: se observó un aumento considerable de las publicaciones entre el año 2008 y el 2018, lo cual indica una preocupación por parte de los investigadores por obtener información más detallada sobre la interacción entre la enfermedad periodontal y la epigenética. At present epigenetics and periodontal disease represent research themes with increasing interaction each. Objective: to describe the bibliometric characteristics of the publications found in the different databases in relation to epigenetics in periodontal disease. Methods: This bibliometric study has been developed in order to gather information provided by scientific articles dealing with epigenetics and periodontal disease, which were retrieved through search equations in the databases Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science and Academic google. Results: in the 169 articles obtained for the investigation it was observed that the continents with more contributions to the field of the investigation were: Asia, North America, Europe, South America, followed by Oceania and finally Africa. Conclusion: A considerable increase in publications was observed between 2008 and 2018, indicating a concern on the part of researchers to obtain more detailed information on the interaction between periodontal and epigenetic disease.
