Situs Inversus (SI) is a rare congenital condition in which the abdominal and thoracic organs are located in a mirror image of the normal position in the sagittal plane. Although this condition does not affect normal health or longevity, its recognition is very important for treating many diseases, particularly those requiring surgical intervention. The relationship between situs inversus and cancer remain inconspicuous.We report a 64-year old male with Situs Iinversus Abdominalis with Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma. Radiographic modalities were very important in preoperative assessment of the patient. The patient was managed by pyloric preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy. The patient received adjuvant chemotherapy and free of recurrence for one year after operation.Surgeons must recognize the complexity of operative intervention with respect to aberrant anatomy. The occurrence of Situs Inversus in a patient with pancreatic cancer must not deter the surgeon from sound oncologic principles of pancreatic surgery. Referral to these cases to tertiary level center is of utmost importance.

Objective: L-Asparaginase is an important enzyme that converts L-asparagine to L-aspartate and ammonia. Microbial L-asparaginase has important applications as anticancer and food processing agents. Methods: This study reported the isolation, screening of a local yeast isolate from banana peel for L-asparaginase production using submerged fermentation, optimization of the production, purification, and anticancer assay of L-asparaginase. The yeast isolate was identified as Kodamaea ohmeri ANOMY based on the analysis of nuclear large subunit (26S) rDNA partial sequences. It was a promising L-asparaginase producer with a specific activity of 3059±193 U/mg in a non-optimized medium. The classical one-variable-at-a-time method was used to optimize the production medium components, and it was found that the elimination of K2HPO4 from the medium increased L-asparaginase specific activity (3100.90±180 U/mg). Results: Statistical optimization of L-asparaginase production was done using Plackett-Burman and Box-Behnken designs. The production medium for the maximum L-asparaginase specific activity (8500±578U/mg) was as follows (g/L): L-asparagine (7.50), NaNO3 (0.50), MgSO4.7H2O (0.80), KCl (0.80) associated with an incubation period of 5 days, inoculum size of 5.60 %, and pH (7.0). The optimization process increased L-asparaginase production by 2.78-fold compared to the non-optimized medium. L-Asparaginase was purified using ammonium sulphate precipitation followed by gel filtration on a Sephadex G-100 column. Its molecular weight was 66 KDa by SDS-PAGE analysis. Conclusion: The cell morphology technique was used to evaluate the anticancer activity of L-asparaginase against three different cell lines. L-Asparaginase inhibited the growth of HepG-2, MCF-7, and HCT-116 cells at a concentration of 20, 50, and 60 μL, respectively.

Lavandula latifolia L. is a medicinal plant has fungicidal, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. The aim of this study was to determine the chemical composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of essential oil (EO) of L. latifolia L. extracted by hydrodistillation method. A total of 22 constituents were identified in L. latifolia L. using Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis. The compounds such as, gamma-terpinene (26.8 %), camphor (13.8 %), 1,8-cineole (10.2 %), lavandulol (9.3 %), terpinen-4-ol (9.1 %), linalool (8.9 %), b-elemene (3.2 %), b-pinene (3.1 %), 1,4-cineole (3.07 %), camphene (2.32 %), a-terpineol (2.3 %), and a-copaene (2.2 %) were determined. The antifungal activity of this EO against five phytopathogenic fungi revealed their broad-spectrum and strong antifungal properties. Notably, the EO showed potent activity on Trichophyton mentagrophytes (31 ± 1 mm) and the minimum inhibitory concentration value was 0.125 ± 0.05 μg/mL. The oil, analyzed for its DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS [2,2_-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6- sulphonic acid)] free radical scavenging activity. Hydrodistilled EO had higher ABTS scavenging capacity than DPPH free radical scavenging power. Essential oil was used to test pesticide activity against Euphoria leucographa (Order: Coleoptera; Family: Scarabaeidae) infected in custard apple (Annona muricata) fruit. Results indicated that the spike lavender EO had contact toxicity on E. leucographa upon topical treatment. The effective concentration at 50 % (EC50) value of EC of L. latifolia L. was 0.37 % revealed considerable fumigant activity mainly due to the presence of fragrant compounds. Interestingly, custard apple (A. muricata) treated with EO effectively controlled the growth of T. mentagrophytes. Overall, antifungal and insecticidal properties of lavender EO, as a natural choice to preserve the harvested fruits thereby protecting the industrial crops.

Background: Liver fibrosis is a reversible scarring response that occurs in almost all patients with chronic liver injury.Liver fibrosis may progress to liver cirrhosis, the end-stage liver disease, which has been a globally increasing major health problem with high mortality and morbidity rates in the past twenty years. Aim: This study aimed at detection of the effects of both Garlic and Rosemary extracts as natural sources on carbon tetrachloride (CCL4) induced rat liver fibrosis. Materials and methods: This experimental study was carried out on 48 adult male albino rats that were classified into five groups(A-B-C-D-E) each group contain ten rats except group (B)contained eight rats.Group (A) is a control group did not receive any medication, group (B) received Carbon tetrachloride (CCL4) only,group (C) received (CCL4) and Garlic extract,group (D) received (CCL4) and Rosemary extract and group (E) received (CCL4) with both Garlic and Rosemary extracts. This work was carried out during the period from July 2013 to July 2014. Results: Livers harvested from rats treated with Garlic extract and rats treated with Rosemary extract revealed marked reduction in both the inflammatory reactions and degenerative changes,as well as, reduction of fibrosis.Rats treated with both Garlic and Rosemary extracts revealed mild or niether reduction of inflammation nor fibrosis. microvesicular steatosis was noticed in Rosemary treated group (D). Conclusion:Both Garlic and rosemary extracts administration with CCL4 significantly ameliorate all necroinflammatory and fibrotic changes in liver tissues when used individually.Thier protective effect was reduced when they were combined together . Internship training programs has been viewed as an effective approach to help students with preliminary job knowledge and experience, thus enhancing their employability in the competitive labor market through impacting on different areas.This study aims to explore the extent to which the an internship can affect positively interns, based on literature review and the analysis survey distributed, (Personal, interpersonal, academic, occupational and civic) were identified as important ingredients to measure if an internship can impact on students, to explore it further.Quantitative research involving 370 student interns was conducted and the results showed that a charatarized internship played a major role in determining the extent of the impact on students.Questionarre surveys were distributed to students who finished their training internships from 3 turkish universities, between 2014-2017, students are either turkish or international.Research methodology part shows analysis tests such as validity, Reliability and results of correlation tests between variables as well.The main hypothesis was devided into five sub-hypothesis, it asked if there is a relationship between the five areas (personal, interpersonal, academic, occupational and civic) impacts on the students.Limitaions of the study are evaluated, the main limitation was that this research conducted in 3 academic institutions, research presented several recommendations through the extracted results for the importance of internships and suggestions for future. 89

There is an urgent need for biomarkers to detect pancreatic cancer in the early, potentially curable, stages.We have used SELDI profiling to analyze serum from 75 patients with pancreatic cancer and 61 patients with nonmalignant pancreaticobiliary diseases.A peak in the SELDI spectra corresponding to a 53 residue fragment of the α-chain of fibrinogen is remarkably elevated in approximately 50% of the cancer patients. In addition, fibrinogen degradation products were measured using the DR-70 assay. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves for the SELDI-detected fibrinogen fragment, DR-70 and CA19-9 were 0.65, 0.75 and 0.86, respectively. Class prediction models using combinations of these markers did not increase the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve compared with CA19-9. The novel fibrinogen fragment was not elevated to the same extent in other malignancies but was elevated in some patients with benign pancreatic disease.Both the SELDI-detected fragment of fibrinogen and DR-70 are significantly elevated in the serum of pancreatic cancer patients. However, they do not seem to improve pancreatic cancer detection over CA19-9 alone.
