1. LITERARY RIDDLES IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS

Abstract: The article deals with literary riddles and their role in the educational process. Currently, in the teaching methodology, the questions of working on a folk riddle are most fully developed, while the methodology of working on a literary riddle is studied only in separate works. Therefore, the main attention in our work is devoted to the study of literary riddles, their types and methods of correct solving. The use of various types of literary riddles in the educational process, along with folk riddles, allows to build a consistent system of working on riddles in elementary school. We have attempted to reproduce a generalized classification of Lezghin literary riddles, including a methodological aspect. The proposed classification, in combination with the thematic classification, expands the teacher's opportunities in preparing for work with the puzzle in lessons and extracurricular activities. It has been proven that the use of all types of riddles, especially riddles with comparison and metaphorical riddles, contributes to the development of imagery and metaphorical speech of younger schoolchildren, allows to consciously introduce literary examples, figurative expressions into children's speech, to inculcate the habit of using metaphors in speech. It is indicated that guessing riddles is an important stage in the development of a child.

2. PRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF LEZGIN PROVERBS, SAYINGS AND RIDDLES

Abstract: The article analyzes the practical significance and pragmatic functions of aphoristic genres (proverbs, sayings, riddles) of Lezgin folklore. To understand the feasibility and usefulness of verbal formulas, the principle of evaluation is applied – pragmatism. As a result, the author carefully examines the artistic component of the genres presented. A distinctive feature of these genres is structural and semantic differences. It has been proven that folk paremias and riddles consist of a descriptive component – the “object/object” construction and commenting. It is noted that the meaning of definitely affirmative and alternative judgments in the value system, expressed in Lezgin folk proverbs and sayings, cannot be understood without taking into account the practical component of publicly available thought. The main function of the Lezgin paremias is communicative. The question is raised about how folk riddles operate in relation to the basic pragmatic aspects of normal communication. It has been established that the principles of pragmatics are fundamentally non-standard, that is, they are motivated in terms of conversational goals. The main goal of solving riddles is to lead all participants in the interaction to understand and agree on the special logic of individual riddles. On the basis of a pragmatic analysis of the aphoristic genres of Lezgin folklore, it is proven that riddles do not exist as questions, but act as entimemes in the same way as proverbs.

3. The mitochondrial Cu+ transporter PiC2 (SLC25A3) is a target of MTF1 and contributes to the development of skeletal muscle in vitro

Abstract: The loading of copper (Cu) into cytochrome c oxidase (COX) in mitochondria is essential for energy production in cells. Extensive studies have been performed to characterize mitochondrial cuproenzymes that contribute to the metallation of COX, such as Sco1, Sco2, and Cox17. However, limited information is available on the upstream mechanism of Cu transport and delivery to mitochondria, especially through Cu-impermeable membranes, in mammalian cells. The mitochondrial phosphate transporter SLC25A3, also known as PiC2, binds Cu+ and transports the ion through these membranes in eukaryotic cells, ultimately aiding in the metallation of COX. We used the well-established differentiation model of primary myoblasts derived from mouse satellite cells, wherein Cu availability is necessary for growth and maturation, and showed that PiC2 is a target of MTF1, and its expression is both induced during myogenesis and favored by Cu supplementation. PiC2 deletion using CRISPR/Cas9 showed that the transporter is required for proliferation and differentiation of primary myoblasts, as both processes are delayed upon PiC2 knock-out. The effects of PiC2 deletion were rescued by the addition of Cu to the growth medium, implying the deleterious effects of PiC2 knockout in myoblasts may be in part due to a failure to deliver sufficient Cu to the mitochondria, which can be compensated by other mitochondrial cuproproteins. Co-localization and co-immunoprecipitation of PiC2 and COX also suggest that PiC2 may participate upstream in the copper delivery chain into COX, as verified by in vitro Cu+-transfer experiments. These data indicate an important role for PiC2 in both the delivery of Cu to the mitochondria and COX, favoring the differentiation of primary myoblasts.

4. Physical properties enhancement of carbon fiber obtained from isotropic pitch doped by ultra-long carbon nanotubes

Abstract: Carbon fibers (CF) were formed from carbon nanotube-doped isotropic petroleum pitch. Ultra-long (the length of a single filament is more than 10,000 nm) double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNT) were used for doping in concentrations from 0.1 to 1.0 wt.%. The produced CF were investigated both in pristine and graphitized form. Physical properties (electrical resistivity, thermal conductivity coefficient), as well as X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and Raman spectroscopy of obtained DWCNT-doped CF were investigated. The influence of DWCNT concentration on the properties is nonlinear due to the influence on the CF molding mode and heterogeneity of the DWCNT distribution in the filament body. An increase in the DWCNT concentration, on the one hand, causes an enhancement in the thermal conductivity coefficient, and a decrease in the electrical resistivity of the fibers, on the other hand, it leads to local inhomogeneities formation in the material structure («gas bubbles»), as well as distortions of the CF outer surface. An increase in the DWCNT concentration also leads to an increase in CF average diameter and hollow filaments formation. This feature is paving the way to the development of novel technological methods to control CF properties and morphology, especially to feasible hollow CF composites manufacture.

5. Role of Lezgin Folk Riddles in the Structure of Everyday Fairy Tales

Abstract: The article deals with Lezgi folk riddles. They can be a constituent element of many genres of folklore, although they exist in folk art as an independent genre. The analysis is focused on folk riddles in the “fairy tale” speech, as well as the use of various kinds of “mysterious” elements in the creation of folk tales. The riddle participates in the complication of many fairy tales. The role of the riddle in a fairy tale is controversial. Basically, the function of riddles in a folk tale is entertaining, but their role in fairy tales is also very significant for the formation of the plot. Riddles are firmly entrenched in a number of fairy tales to complicate them. Both folk tales and folk riddles are metaphorical. We study the traditional plots of Lezgi folk tales, in which we find riddles. The purpose of our study is to identify the multi-aspect interdependence of the Lezgin folk riddle as a plot-forming element in various types of fairy tales. Creative imagination often introduces a riddle into the plot of social and everyday tales “about wise answers” (“about guessing”), which most often contain the origins of difficult riddle problems. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the lack of study of this issue in the Lezgi oral and poetic creativity.

6. Engineered Metal Oxide Nanoparticles as Fungicides for Plant Disease Control

Abstract: Metal oxide nanoparticles are considered to be good alternatives as fungicides for plant disease control. To date, numerous metal oxide nanoparticles have been produced and evaluated as promising antifungal agents. Consequently, a detailed and critical review on the use of mono-, bi-, and tri-metal oxide nanoparticles for controlling phytopathogenic fungi is presented. Among the studied metal oxide nanoparticles, mono-metal oxide nanoparticles—particularly ZnO nanoparticles, followed by CuO nanoparticles —are the most investigated for controlling phytopathogenic fungi. Limited studies have investigated the use of bi- and tri-metal oxide nanoparticles for controlling phytopathogenic fungi. Therefore, more studies on these nanoparticles are required. Most of the evaluations have been carried out under in vitro conditions. Thus, it is necessary to develop more detailed studies under in vivo conditions. Interestingly, biological synthesis of nanoparticles has been established as a good alternative to produce metal oxide nanoparticles for controlling phytopathogenic fungi. Although there have been great advances in the use of metal oxide nanoparticles as novel antifungal agents for sustainable agriculture, there are still areas that require further improvement.

7. On the Peculiarities of the Artistic Form of the Lezgin Folk Proverbs and Sayings

Abstract: National proverbs and sayings of Lezgins are analyzed. Attention is paid to the internal laws of proverbial poetics. The author dwells on a peculiar artistic form of Lezgin proverbs and sayings, which is evidence of a high level of creative thinking, aesthetic taste, poetic perception of various spheres of life by the people. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that the issues of sound organization and the poetic form of the Lezgin folk proverbs and sayings have not yet become the object of comprehensive study. In this regard, the analysis of emotional and expressive means in small aphoristic genres of folklore is of great scientific interest. The goal of our work is to give an objective assessment of the peculiar poetic form of folk paremias, which is in the rhythmic organization, but our analysis does not pretend to a full interpretation of the topic under study. It is proved that the specificity of the artistic form of folk sayings is alliteration, rhyme, rhythm, sound repetitions that contribute to the poetic language of speech, the most clear expression of thoughts and the selection of the main meaning. A number of pictorial and expressive means of poetic speech helps her in this. Thus, rhythm and various kinds of rhymes contribute not only to the preservation of the unity of proverbs and sayings, but also to the selection of the main idea. The rhyme in folk proverbs plays a rhythmic and semantic role.

8. Infection Control Procedures and Practices in Intensive Care Units of a General Hospital, Sana’a, Yemen

Abstract: Background: Patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) are at a greatest risk of health care associated infections (HAIs). Adherence to infection control (IC) precautions helps to prevent HAIs. Objective(s): To assess the infection control (IC) procedures and practices in intensive care units (ICUs). Methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted in ICUs of Althawra General Hospital in Sana'a, Republic of Yemen. All ICUs and their managers (n=12) and health care workers (n=200) made the target of the study. Data were collected using the IC assessment tool designed by the United States Agency for International Development (US-AID). It comprises modules for IC procedures and observation checklists for IC practices. Results: The IC procedures were poor regarding hand hygiene practices (49.1%), injection practices (25%), and type of catheters used in ICUs (16.7%). The IC practices of HCWs were poor regarding hand hygiene practices (30.2% in 46% of the ICUs), injection administration practices (35.7% in 34.5% of the ICUs) and waste disposal practices (23.5% in 92.5% of the ICUs). Conclusion: Infection control procedures and practices in ICUs of Althawra General Hospital were poor with respect to injection practices, type of catheters used in ICUs, hand hygiene practices, injection administration, and waste disposal. Recommendations: Improving the IC procedures regarding hand hygiene practices, injection practices, and type of catheters used in ICUs and addressing the IC practices of HCWs is a necessity.

Abstract: The use of metal nanoparticles is considered a good alternative to control phytopathogenic fungi in agriculture. To date, numerous metal nanoparticles (e.g., Ag, Cu, Se, Ni, Mg, and Fe) have been synthesized and used as potential antifungal agents. Therefore, this proposal presents a critical and detailed review of the use of these nanoparticles to control phytopathogenic fungi. Ag nanoparticles have been the most investigated nanoparticles due to their good antifungal activities, followed by Cu nanoparticles. It was also found that other metal nanoparticles have been investigated as antifungal agents, such as Se, Ni, Mg, Pd, and Fe, showing prominent results. Different synthesis methods have been used to produce these nanoparticles with different shapes and sizes, which have shown outstanding antifungal activities. This review shows the success of the use of metal nanoparticles to control phytopathogenic fungi in agriculture.

10. Epoxy Nanocomposites with Carbon Nanotubes Produced by Floating Catalyst CVD

Abstract: Epoxy nanocomposites with float catalysis-produced CNT felt as a filler were prepared. Parameters such as the curing process, glass transition of epoxynanocomposites, structure and morphology of CNT felt, initial epoxy composition, and epoxy nanocomposites were investigated. The influence of CNT felt on curing process in epoxy nanocomposites with different amounts of curing agent was determined. An exothermic reaction between the curing agent and the surface of CNTs was established. It was found that the structure of epoxy nanocomposites has a high degree of heterogeneity: the presence of fiber-like structures and individualized CNTs is observed together with the regions that are typical for CNTs that are fabricated via a catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Based on the studies performed, it is possible to predict the production of epoxy nanocomposites with outstanding mechanical and thermophysical properties. In particular, the uncured compositions already obtained in this work can be used for the manufacture of electrically conductive glass and carbon fiber reinforced plastics and functional coatings.

11. Developing New Thermal Protection Method for AC Electric Motors

Abstract: Monitoring the thermal state of windings of electrical machines is a backbone for protection from unacceptable overheating. A large number of different methods and systems aim to solve this problem. This article discusses the main known methods of thermal protection of electric motors and provides their comparative analysis. This paper shows that the most promising methods are those based on control of the current active resistance of the stator winding, as its value uniquely depends on temperature. It is demonstrated that the known methods have a number of disadvantages. A new phase method for thermal protection of AC motors is proposed. The method is based on the fact that a temperature-induced change in the active and reactive components of the winding impedance causes a corresponding change in the angle between the vectors of phase voltages and currents. This allows for thermal protection by controlling the change in this angle. This article provides tabular analytical substantiation of the proposed method, which is based on the direct measurements of voltage and current and the subsequent algorithmic calculation of physical values functionally related to the sought angle. The authors develop a structural block diagram of a device that implements the proposed thermal protection method. All relevant experimental studies were carried out. In this case, a small-sized electronic thermometer with a remote digital temperature sensor connected to the USB port of a personal computer was used as a temperature meter. The results obtained confirm the functional capability and efficiency of the proposed technical solution.

12. Synthesis, Structure and Electrical Resistivity of Carbon Nanotubes Synthesized over Group VIII Metallocenes

Abstract: The paper reports the synthesis of carbon nanotubes from ethanol over group VIII (Fe, Co, Ni) catalysts derived from corresponding metallocenes. Several unexpected cooperative effects are reported, which are never observed in the case of individual metallocenes such as the commonly used ferrocene catalyst Fe(C5H5)2. The formation of very long (up to several µm) straight monocrystal metal kernels inside the carbon nanotubes was the most interesting effect. The use of trimetal catalysts (Fe1-x-yCoxNiy)(C5H5)2 resulted in the sharp increase in the yield of carbon nanotubes. The electrical conductivity of the produced nanotubes is determined by the nature of the catalyst. The variation of individual metals in the Ni-Co-Fe leads to a drop of the electrical resistivity of nanotube samples by the order of magnitude, i.e., from 1.0 × 10−3 to 1.1 × 10−5 Ω∙m. A controlled change in the electrophysical properties of the nanotubes can make it possible to expand their use as fillers in composites, photothermal and tunable magnetic nanomaterials with pre-designed electrical conductivity and other electromagnetic properties.

Abstract: This article analyzes the adoption of project management practices in development cooperation NGOs and their influence on project performance. This paper illustrates the impact in the implementation of methodologies, techniques and tools on outcomes, measured by success criteria of several projects recently implemented. Information from the project managers of the organizations was collected, and complemented by a literature review. We analyzed the correlation among the variables that determine the adoption of a project, and the criteria that determine its success. The positive effect of project management adoption in the performance of cooperation projects is demonstrated, in spite of the low use of methodologies, techniques and tools within the sector. The article shows the importance of project management in cooperation and aid projects, with the purpose of increasing researchers’ awareness about the field as applicable knowledge and about the benefits of its use in the sector. The paper shows that project management can improve project efficiency and accountability in other sectors.

14. Effects of Monocarboxylic Acids and Potassium Persulfate on Preparation of Chitosan Nanoparticles

Abstract: In this research, we studied the preparation of nanochitosan from the addition of potassium persulfate as an initiator for monomer polymerization and monocarboxylic acid—namely acetic acid, lactic acid, and formic acid—to a chitosan solution. To obtain the dried form of chitosan nanoparticles, we investigated the effects of oven and spray drying systems toward the physicochemical properties and morphology of chitosan nanoparticles. Successfully prepared chitosan nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Field Emission Scanning Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (FESEM-EDX), and a particle size analyzer (PSA). The structures of nanochitosan prepared in different acids were quite similar based on the FTIR spectra. By increasing the concentrations of potassium persulfate, the yields of chitosan nanoparticles also increased. The concentration of potassium persulfate had a significant influence on the production of chitosan nanoparticles. The lowest concentration of potassium persulfate (0.6 mmol) did not produce an observable formation of chitosan nanoparticles. By using formic acid and potassium persulfate in various concentrations from 1.2–3.0 mmol, chitosan nanoparticles were obtained. A particle size distribution of chitosan nanoparticles was produced from a formic acid solution having a smaller size compared to others. The acidity effect of monocarboxylic acids in the formation of chitosan nanoparticles was better compared to the addition of other acids. Furthermore, synthesized chitosan nanoparticles (50–110 nm) produced from formic acid solutions have potential applications for drug carrier purposes.

15. The Contribution of Serum Anti–cyclic Citrullinated Peptide Antibody and Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 in Predicting the Activity of Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease

Abstract: Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic synovial inflammation. The insufficient immune clearance of the apoptotic cell results into the formation of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies which may play a critical role in the initiations of inflammatory responses. These antibodies together with Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 play an important role in joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis disease. Objectives: to study the value of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies, and Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 in differentiation between active and inactive rheumatoid arthritis. Patients and Methods: A cross- sectional study was conducted on 60 Iraqi patients with rheumatoid arthritis (16 males and 44 females) aging from 29 to 74 years who presented to the Rheumatology Consultation Clinic of Baghdad Teaching Hospital / Medical City during the period of July 2013 to the end of October 2013. The patients were divided, according to rheumatoid arthritis activity depending on Disease Activity Score 28 and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, into two groups: 30 patients with active rheumatoid arthritis and the other 30 patients with inactive rheumatoid arthritis. Quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique was used to measure serum level of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies, and Matrix Metalloproteinase-3. Results: The means concentration of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies, and Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 were significantly higher in rheumatoid arthritis cases with active disease compared to those with inactive disease. The disease activity index DAS28 showed a statistically significant strong positive (direct) linear correlation with serum MMP3 (r=0.762) and serum ACCP (r=0.806). In addition, serum MMP3 showed a statistically significant moderately strong positive (direct) linear correlation with serum ACCP (r=0.64). Both serum MMP3 and ACCP had a higher validity than blood ESR (which is used itself in calculating DAS28) is predicting an active disease status. Conclusion: Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies and Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 could be useful biological markers for assessment of rheumatoid arthritis disease activity.

Patients and Methods: A case-control study was performed using real time polymerase chain reaction technique to measure the relative expression of micro Ribonucleic acids (20a, 146a, 155, and 145) in peripheral blood leukocytes of 25 newly diagnosed untreated multiple sclerosis patients and comparing them with that of 25 clinically apparent healthy controls . Results: Studying of micro Ribonucleic acids expression in multiple sclerosis patients revealed a significant down-regulation in micro Ribonucleic acid-20a while up- regulation of micro Ribonucleic acid-155 expression in multiple sclerosis patients in comparison to controls. Micro Ribonucleic acids -146a and 145 were not associated with significant changes in its expression in multiple sclerosis patients in comparison to controls. Conclusion: multiple sclerosis is associated with significant changes in micro Ribonucleic acids expression including micro Ribonucleic acid-20a, and micro Ribonucleic acid-155 but not micro Ribonucleic acid 146a and-145 that can be measured by real time polymerase chain reaction technique.

Abstract: Background: Galectin-4 is one of a b-galactosides binding proteins family that recognize a variety of glycan -containing proteins at the cell surface and are overexpressed in various tumors, including gastric cancer. Galectin-4 overexpression as well as changes in their subcellular distribution has been associated with gastric cancer progression and poor prognosis. It may provide diagnostic molecular markers for gastric cancer as well as clues for developing therapeutic targets on individual basis. Objectives : The aims of the present study were to determine the levels of GAL-4in the sera of healthy people and patients with gastric cancer and also, to investigate the validity of using GAL-4 as a specific diagnostic marker of gastric cancer. Patients and methods: twenty five gastric cancer patients were included in this study. They were among patients who attending the Endoscopy Department in Baghdad Medical City Teaching Hospital, during the period from December 2011 to July 2012. In addition, fifteen apparently healthy person were chosen as a healthy control group. For these two groups, serum level of GAL-4 using sandwich ELISA technique was carried out. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in serum level of GAL-4 among gastric adenocarcinoma patients in comparison to healthy controls (p≤0.001), using receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) area, serum GAL-4 has high area under the curve (0.924) with a cut off value equal to or above 0.42ng/ml which was associated with the highest sensitivity (100%). Conclusions: The current study showed that serum levels of GAL-4 were significantly higher in patients with malignant gastric adenocarcinoma which may confirm a possible role of this marker in the pathogenesis of the disease, furthermore the highest sensitivity and best accuracy obtained from serum GAL-4 was by using a cut off values equal to or above 0.42ng/ml; Therefore, GAL-4 may be promising new diagnostic tools especially at early stages and among patients at high risk.

Abstract: Background: Toll-like receptor -2 (TLR-2)play important roles in tumor biology; by activation and promotion of tumor cell proliferation, resistance to apoptosis andalso, enhancement of tumor cell invasion and metastasis by regulating metalloproteinase and integrin’s.As toll-like receptors are widely expressed on tumor cells and participatein the initiation and progression of cancer, they may thus serve an important target and have an effective perspective on breast cancer treatment. Objectives:The aims of the present study was to determine the levels of TLR-2 in the sera of healthy people and patients with benign and malignant breast tumors and also to investigate the validity of using TLR-2 as specific diagnostic markers of breast cancer. It`sdetection at early stage of disease could identify those patients with a high risk of progression to aggressive cancers. Patients and methods:Thirty breast cancer femaleswith age range from 27-76 years were included in this study and they were among patients who attending the National Center For Early Detection Of Cancer - medical city complex / Ministry of Health,during the period from October 2011 to February 2012.Thirty clinically diagnosed patients with benign fibro adenoma and twenty apparently healthy women were chosen as a case control and healthy control groups respectively. For all these study groups, serum level of TLR-2 using sandwich ELISA technique was carried out. Results:There was a statically significant difference in the serum level of TLR-2in blood of breast cancer patients and case control group in comparison to healthy controls (p >0.001),however there was no significant differences in such a level between the first two groups (p=0.44); therefore we were dealing with breast tumor cases in general regarding serum TLR-2.By using Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) area, in order to study the validity value of serum Toll like receptor-2 in differentiated breast tumor patients from healthy controls, serum TLR-2has the highest area under the curve (0.930) with cut off value associated with highest (perfect) sensitivity (100%) was equal to or above 0.14ng/ml. Abstract: Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorders. PCOS produces symptoms in approximately 5% to 10% of women of reproductive age (12–45 years old). Objective: To detect the level of IL-6 in PCOS patients correlated with their serum glucose. Patients and methods: This is a prospective study carried out at Baghdad teaching hospital in Baghdad/Iraq from November 2011 to January 2012. In this study, 80 blood samples (40 untreated women with PCOS cases and 40 healthy control) were collected to investigate their IL-6 levels by using Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique and fasting blood sugar (FBS) by enzymatic assay. Results: Serum IL-6 elevated in PCOS patients mainly those with high blood sugar. Conclusion: Serum IL-6 levels were significantly higher among PCOS women than in healthy group. PCOS patients had high blood sugar when compared to control group. Significant statistical positive association was seen between serum IL-6 level and FBS among study cases.

Abstract: Background: Chronic atrophic gastritis is a precancerous lesion. A commonly used test for the diagnosis of chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric endoscopy with biopsy collection, and a good serological test would be best include low levels of pepsinogen I (PGI) or a low PGI/PGII ratio. Aim of the study: T o confirm the use of serum pepsinogens as a screening marker in atrophic gastritis. Patients and Methods: A study was conducted in the period between December 2005 and March 2006 on 25 patients with atrophic gastritis attending Gastroenterology and Hepatology Teaching Hospital in Baghdad, and 25 healthy control subjects. Sera were tested for PGI and PGII by ELISA test. Results and Conclusions: the serum PGI were decreased significantly with atrophic gastritis and the PGI/PGII ratio were decreased in (78%) of patient group and not affected in healthy people.

Abstract: Background: Autoantibodies are frequently found in patients with chronic hepatitis C, which suggests that HCV elicit an immune response in the host. ). The relationship of type-2 AIH to chronic hepatitis C (HCV) is an interesting and as yet unresolved problem. Importantly, antibodies to liver/kidney microsome type-1 (LKM1), the serologic marker of type 2-AIH, have been recognized in serum of some patients with chronic hepatitis C. Methods: Anti-liver kidney microsome type 1 (LKM-1) autoantibodies were studied by indirect immuno florescence assay (IIF) and confirmed by immunoblot in the serum of 73 Iraqi patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) in comparison with 50 patients control (HCV infection) and 50 healthy individuals. Results: anti-LKM 1 with high titers (≥1/160) present in serum of all patients with AIH-2, whereas they present in titer (≤1/80) in serum of 19 patients with chronic HCV, while all healthy control group are negative. Conclusion: AIH is easily distinguished from chronic viral hepatitis since patients with AIH are more commonly women than those with chronic viral hepatitis, and they have higher serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase, bilirubin, gamma-globulin, IgG, alkaline phosphates, and higher frequency of multilobular necrosis on histologic examination than counters with chronic viral hepatitis.

Abstract: With increased global interaction, cultural awareness among stakeholders is crucial, especially for companies seeking growth in the international environment. This study focuses on comparing the perceptions of business skill importance between student subjects from China/Hong Kong (CHK) and the United States (US). The results show that the six cues representing the business skills/attributes strongly influenced student perceptions of job offer likelihood and the relative importance of these cues were not equal, with Interpersonal Effectiveness (INPER), Internship Experience (INT), and Ethical Awareness (ETH) having a higher impact than Communication (COMM), Cultural Intelligence (CULT), and Critical Thinking (CRIT). The results indicated that INPER, INT, and ETH were associated with similar, substantial effects, while COMM, CULT, and CRIT exhibited smaller and comparable effects. The analysis revealed significant interactions between the country and two cues Interpersonal Effectiveness (INPER) and Ethical Awareness (ETH). Chinese students perceived INPER to be somewhat more important than U.S. students, possibly influenced by cultural dimensions such as the emphasis on interpersonal relationships in Chinese culture. Conversely, U.S. students regarded ETH as more crucial than their Chinese counterparts, aligning with findings that suggest cultural variations, particularly in power distance and collectivism, may influence ethical values. The findings enhance our understanding of the relative importance of business skills in different cultural contexts and provide insights for educational institutions and employers in preparing students for the global business environment. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing direct comparisons of student perceptions across cultures and employing a rigorous judgment modeling methodology.

Abstract: We search for correlations between positions of extragalactic objects and arrival directions of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs) with primary energy $E \ge 40$ EeV as observed by the surface detector array of the Telescope Array (TA) experiment during the first 40 months of operation. We examined several public astronomical object catalogs, including the Veron-Cetty and Veron catalog of active galactic nuclei. We counted the number of TA events correlated with objects in each catalog as a function of three parameters: the maximum angular separation between a TA event and an object, the minimum energy of the events, and the maximum redshift of the objects. We determine combinations of these parameters which maximize the correlations, and calculate the chance probabilities of having the same levels of correlations from an isotropic distribution of UHECR arrival directions. No statistically significant correlations are found when penalties for scanning over the above parameters and for searching in several catalogs are taken into account.

Abstract: We measure the spectrum of cosmic rays with energies greater than $10^{18.2}$ eV with the Fluorescence Detectors (FDs) and the Surface Detectors (SDs) of the Telescope Array Experiment using the data taken in our first 2.3-year observation from May 27 2008 to September 7 2010. A hybrid air shower reconstruction technique is employed to improve accuracies in determination of arrival directions and primary energies of cosmic rays using both FD and SD data. Abstract: We present a measurement of the energy spectrum of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays performed by the Telescope Array experiment using monocular observations from its two new FADC-based fluorescence detectors. After a short description of the experiment, we describe the data analysis and event reconstruction procedures. Since the aperture of the experiment must be calculated by Monte Carlo simulation, we describe this calculation and the comparisons of simulated and real data used to verify the validity of the aperture calculation. Finally, we present the energy spectrum calculated from the merged monocular data sets of the two FADC-based detectors, and also the combination of this merged spectrum with an independent, previously published monocular spectrum measurement performed by Telescope Array's third fluorescence detector (Abu-Zayyad {\it et al.}, {Astropart. Phys.} 39 (2012), 109). This combined spectrum corroborates the recently published Telescope Array surface detector spectrum (Abu-Zayyad {\it et al.}, {Astrophys. Abstract: We study the anisotropy of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Ray (UHECR) events collected by the Telescope Array (TA) detector in the first 40 months of operation. Following earlier studies, we examine event sets with energy thresholds of 10 EeV, 40 EeV, and 57 EeV. We find that the distributions of the events in right ascension and declination are compatible with an isotropic distribution in all three sets. We then compare with previously reported clustering of the UHECR events at small angular scales. No significant clustering is found in the TA data. We then check the events with E>57 EeV for correlations with nearby active galactic nuclei. No significant correlation is found. Finally, we examine all three sets for correlations with the large-scale structure of the Universe. We find that the two higher-energy sets are compatible with both an isotropic distribution and the hypothesis that UHECR sources follow the matter distribution of the Universe (the LSS hypothesis), while the event set with E>10 EeV is compatible with isotropy and is not compatible with the LSS hypothesis at 95% CL unless large deflection angles are also assumed. We show that accounting for UHECR deflections in a realistic model of the Galactic magnetic field can make this set compatible with the LSS hypothesis., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures

Abstract: The Telescope Array (TA) collaboration has measured the energy spectrum of ultra-high energy cosmic rays with primary energies above 1.6 x 10^(18) eV. This measurement is based upon four years of observation by the surface detector component of TA. The spectrum shows a dip at an energy of 4.6 x 10^(18) eV and a steepening at 5.4 x 10^(19) eV which is consistent with the expectation from the GZK cutoff. We present the results of a technique, new to the analysis of ultra-high energy cosmic ray surface detector data, that involves generating a complete simulation of ultra-high energy cosmic rays striking the TA surface detector. The procedure starts with shower simulations using the CORSIKA Monte Carlo program where we have solved the problems caused by use of the "thinning" approximation. This simulation method allows us to make an accurate calculation of the acceptance of the detector for the energies concerned., Comment: Accepted for publication by Astrophysical Journal Letters

Abstract: The Telescope Array's Middle Drum fluorescence detector was instrumented with telescopes refurbished from the High Resolution Fly's Eye's HiRes-1 site. The data observed by Middle Drum in monocular mode was analyzed via the HiRes-1 profile-constrained geometry reconstruction technique and utilized the same calibration techniques enabling a direct comparison of the energy spectra and energy scales between the two experiments. The spectrum measured using the Middle Drum telescopes is based on a three-year exposure collected between December 16, 2007 and December 16, 2010. The calculated difference between the spectrum of the Middle Drum observations and the published spectrum obtained by the data collected by the HiRes-1 site allows the HiRes-1 energy scale to be transferred to Middle Drum. The HiRes energy scale is applied to the entire Telescope Array by making a comparison between Middle Drum monocular events and hybrid events that triggered both Middle Drum and the Telescope Array's scintillator Ground Array., Comment: 27 pages, 21 figures

Abstract: The Telescope Array (TA) experiment, located in the western desert of Utah,USA, is designed for observation of extensive air showers from extremely high energy cosmic rays. The experiment has a surface detector array surrounded by three fluorescence detectors to enable simultaneous detection of shower particles at ground level and fluorescence photons along the shower track. The TA surface detectors and fluorescence detectors started full hybrid observation in March, 2008. Abstract: Since 2007, the Telescope Array (TA) experiment, based in Utah, USA, has been observing ultra high energy cosmic rays to understand their origins. The experiment involves a surface detector (SD) array and three fluorescence detector (FD) stations. FD stations, installed surrounding the SD array, measure the air fluorescence light emitted from extensive air showers (EASs) for precise determination of their energies and species. The detectors employed at one of the three FD stations were relocated from the High Resolution Fly's Eye experiment. At the other two stations, newly designed detectors were constructed for the TA experiment. An FD consists of a primary mirror and a camera equipped with photomultiplier tubes. To obtain the EAS parameters with high accuracies, understanding the FD optical characteristics is important. In this paper, we report the characteristics and installation of new FDs and the performances of the FD components.
